Chapter 1: Prologue?

Heya, this is my first Omori fanfic. I was recommended to post this on Tumblr, as well as AO3 and fanfic.net. So yeah! Criticism would be appreciated! WELCOME TO WHITE SPACE.

YOU’VE LIVED HERE FOR AS LONG AS YOU CAN REMEMBER.

He looked around him, seeing nothing but white as expected. Eventually his eyes adjusted, and he could see MEWO the cat, lazing around. A box of tissues, to wipe his sorrows away. A laptop. His sketchbook. Finally he looked up, seeing the empty light fixture. SUNNY hummed as he looked down at himself, seeing his colored in pale skin outlined with a black aura. He doesn’t remember looking like that, but oh well. He began to look around, finding his Shiny Knife and putting it in his POCKET. He looks to the door that now appeared and opens it, before walking through and out of WHITE SPACE. He appears in the NEIGHBOR’S ROOM, looking around and doesn’t see anyone. He hummed with curiosity as usually his friends were here, waiting for him. He walked over to the stairs, before looking at SNAKE. “Sssssssssssss” (Going out SUNNY?) He nods. “Sssssssssss” (Here is your allowance for the day) and gave him 50 CLAMS. He put it in his POCKET before coming out of the stump. He’s alerted immediately by someone screaming at him as he comes out.

He looked at the person screaming, confused, before his eyes widened with shock. “WHERE DID YOU COME FROM??” The girl asked frantically, SCARED and wielding a STUFFED TOY. “AUBREY?” SUNNY asked. “NOW I’M SEEING SUNNY? WHAT IS THIS PLACE??!” she shouted, now STRESSED OUT. SUNNY put his hands up in a placating gesture. “AUBREY it’s okay, I’m fine. But first I need you to take deep breaths and CALM DOWN.” He kept his voice as soothing as he could, leading her through the breathing exercises.

He looked over the girl, expecting the blue hair and white bodied figure that his friends in HEADSPACE always had. She had color, and pink hair, and actual clothes on. Something wasn’t adding up. “There, feel better?” AUBREY nods as she returns to NEUTRAL. “Now, this is called HEADSPACE. It’s my uh…. Well, HEADSPACE.” She looks at him, her expression softens just a bit before sighing. “I know that… Or rather, the AUBREY that you spend so much time with does. She…” she blushed profusely before looking away. She started to say something, before someone familiar showed up, in typical fashion. “YEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH I WON!” Both SUNNY and AUBREY look over to see KEL breathing heavily in a victory pose, as HERO puttered behind him, nearly falling over. AUBREY looks put out, but at the same time thankful for the distraction. “KEL! HERO! Over here!” The boys looked up, as both became HAPPY and ran over. “Hey! You and SUNNY are here! Where are we?”

SUNNY starts to explain. “You’re all in my HEADSPACE. I have no idea how, but given that AUBREY knew that already, I have a feeling you’ve all either learned what your HEADSPACE versions knew, or you’re actually here…” SUNNY looks over at AUBREY, who seemed more interested in her shoes than at him. “I think you all might only gain memories that are the same as your own, and only share the same emotions, and feelings that your counterparts have.” SUNNY’s suspicions were confirmed when AUBREY blushed even harder, and he could see steam come out her ears.

HERO saw it too, and snickered quietly. KEL had no idea what that meant, but SUNNY is pretty smart so he trusts him.”Cool! In that case, what do we do here?” SUNNY hummed, thinking before looking down the stretch of grass that leads towards the FOREST PLAYGROUND. He nodded to himself before looking at the other three. “Follow me. If you’re all here, that means MARI and BASIL are too.” They nodded before AUBREY sheepishly walked up to SUNNY before hugging him. He hugged her back, humming before they break away and AUBREY’s heart melts as SUNNY smiles at her, becoming HAPPY. “What was that for?” She blushed before looking away. “I’m just… Really glad you’re okay.” He was confused by that, but KEL got impatient. “COME OOOOOOOOOOOOON YOU CAN GET A ROOM LATER!” The boy crowed next to them, startling both of the two into moving forward. Both stammered and looked away from each other, but never moved away. HERO smirks as he spots that their pinkies were intertwined. The group made their way south, entering into the FOREST PLAYGROUND and spotting MARI and BASIL on a picnic blanket, talking. As they approached, MARI looked up and noticed them, before getting up and sprinting directly at HERO. SUNNY ignored the sounds of MARI doing who knows what to HERO, but he’s pretty sure he heard MARI giggling, walking up to BASIL. “Hello BASIL.” The cheery boy looked up from his PHOTO ALBUM and smiled. “Hello SUNNY! It’s good to see you” Both MARI and BASIL looked like their REAL LIFE counterparts, which was again interesting to see. They looked over as KEL shouted out to them, both walking over, MARI dragging HERO over, who looked a bit dazed and covered in kiss marks. “Oh thank goodness! Me and BASIL were worried we were the only ones in this strange world…” MARI had a look of relief as she glanced over everyone, and stopped on SUNNY. “SUNNY… Why do you look different?” She looked him up and down, confused before zeroing in on SUNNY and AUBREY holding pinkies and she started to giggle. SUNNY cleared his throat. “This is my HEADSPACE. The world I created in daydreams and imagination. I don’t know why everyone from the REAL WORLD is here, normally it’s just the HEADSPACE versions… I don’t mind though.” AUBREY is trying to hide behind SUNNY from MARI, who is now giving her a strange look and smile. SUNNY tilts his head, confused. “Now, MARI, leave them alone.” HERO moved in, blocking her view and giving her that winning SMILE. MARI looks up at him, a rosy blush on her face. “That’s not fair HERO! Don’t be mean to me…” she giggles again. SUNNY was very lost, and so was KEL by the looks of it. “Well anyways… From what HERO and AUBREY have said, the same emotions are shared, but memories are separate. While you can see their memories, you can tell they’re not from the REAL WORLD.” MARI winked at AUBREY, who squeaked. “MARI, stop teasing AUBREY.” He immediately regretted saying anything, as she now turns on him. “Oh? Is my little brother finally growing up and getting a girlfriend? How sweet~” SUNNY is now redder than a tomato, before taking a deep breath and calming down.

“I know me and AUBREY are close MARI, but that sort of thing can’t be rushed.” He’s trying his best to stay calm, but his internal screaming kind of ruined that attempt as he felt the heat of AUBREY’s gaze piercing the back of his head. MARI giggled and raised her hands in surrender. “Fine, fine ruin my ship.” He looked at her confused, before shaking his head. “Now that I think about it, all of you seem to exhibit the HEADSPACE version of yourself more than the REAL WORLD version now. I wonder why?” MARI tilts her head,curious. “What do you mean?” SUNNY turns around to AUBREY, who is now staring at him. “You’re being more cutesy and soft than how you’ve been the last four years with the HOOLIGANS. Instead of the rough exterior that you usually display.” AUBREY blinks a few times. “That just reminded me… I have some… News…” SUNNY tilts his head, confused. He notices everyone’s face grow somber. “SUNNY… You’re in a coma. You tried to hang yourself…. Why?” AUBREY’s face grew SAD, starting to cry. SUNNY went off instinct and hugged her tightly, rubbing her back. “I don’t remember trying to. But that explains why I haven’t woken up in a long time. I wondered why every time I go to sleep I wake up still in HEADSPACE.”

SUNNY tried to think. Why would he do that? He’s been happy for a while now. But time in HEADSPACE is weird, not really consistent. It’s hard to say how long he’s been here, and how long it’s been since he woke up. “You’ve been in a coma for two years, SUNNY.” MARI is there, gently petting his head, smiling sadly. “I hope you wake up… And that you get better. I don’t want to lose you.” MARI then walked off, and AUBREY pulled back from the hug, smiling at him. “I’m glad I get to see you here. You didn’t… Show much emotion for the last six years. I was afraid that we were drifting apart, but now… I get to see that smile that I…” She blushes and runs off, hiding her face. SUNNY looked after her, his mind now going into overdrive, trying to process all that he heard. He was emotionless? That can’t be. He was like MARI, freely showing his emotions, he loved smiling for people and seeing it infect them to do the same. He loved hugging people, showing what they meant to him. He spoke his mind about how much he liked stuff…

While he was lost in thought, SUNNY heard a commotion nearby, and he looked over to see AUBREY and KEL were at it again, but this time with MARI in the way rather than HERO. “KEL’S BEING MEAN TO ME AGAIN!!” MARI makes a surprised expression. “Oh no! Not again… How could he?” KEL takes a step forward. “Psh I’m not being mean! AUBREY is just being whiny… like always!” MARI very obviously stifled a giggle as she turned to him. “Well, KEL. You just made a very convincing point. Now I don’t know who to believe!” SUNNY sighs, shaking his head at MARI’s antics, but HAPPY they were back to normal. “BELIEVE ME!” KEL shouted. “NO! BELIEVE ME!!” AUBREY shouted back. SUNNY snorted as he sneaked up behind AUBREY and whispered into her ear. “I’d always believe in you, AUBREY.”

The satisfaction he got from seeing her jump a foot off the ground, and turn to him blushing was worth the punch to the gut he got. The laughter from MARI and HERO was worth it too, even if he’s on the ground now trying to breathe again. Now HERO decided to step in. “Alright, alright, settle down you two…” MARI smiles at Hero. “Look at you being all responsible, even if you were a little late… I like that about you.” She giggles, and HERO blushes profusely. “MARI… Not now…” AUBREY is still red to her ears, hiding her face. SUNNY finally manages to sit up, smiling at AUBREY. “Sorry, was that too much? I’ll try to tone it down next time.” AUBREY huffed at him, still red. He chuckled before hugging her. “Sorry for scaring you.” She almost seems to melt into the hug, not caring about what just happened and not letting go of him. SUNNY looks up to the rest. “We should go to BASIL’s house, I think he’d like to see how it looks in my HEADSPACE. BASIL looked over from where he was listening to KEL, talking to him about… Someone named HAZEL? “I-I would like that…” SUNNY nods, and looks around, not letting go of AUBREY. “Alright, we should get going then.” Everyone nods, and AUBREY shyly steps away, blushing under her bangs, her pink hair in stark contrast to her. SUNNY smiled at her, offering his hand. “You know I’m afraid of being alone.” She looks at him, then at his hand and slowly takes it. “Yeah just… Making sure you’re not alone..”

SUNNY ignored the fake retching noises from KEL, and the cooing of MARI in favor of leading them through the playground before BERLY calls out to them. “HOLD IT! Where do y’all think you’re going? You can’t leave without playing Hide-and-Seek!” VAN spoke up after. “Stay and play with us” The group turned around, and HERO spoke up. “You want to play Hide-and-Seek again?” KEL coughed. “But… You know how this turned out last time…” AUBREY shuddered, slightly squeezing SUNNY’s hand. “Y-yeah… Sorry, Berly. I think we’re gonna have to pass.” KEL looked away. “We’re going to BASIL’s house now…. So… We’ll catch up with you later!” SUNNY looked at the two of them, humming. “BERLY, I know you want to play. But we’ll need to play another time, okay? I’ll bring some candy for you when I come by again, promise.” BERLY, about to call them out paused, thinking. “Okay fine, you win this time. But I better see some candy!” SUNNY nods, before leading the group away, only to feel KEL tap his shoulder and turns back around. “Where’s BASIL?” SUNNY looked around, confused, and didn't see the boy anywhere. “That’s strange…” his attention was grabbed by a tree shaking. SUNNY slowly approached the tree, AUBREY having let go of his hand to look for BASIL. Suddenly the tree fell away, showing BOSS holding BASIL who looked like he just got slammed into a wall. Considering BOSS’s main thing is body slamming, that sounded about right. BERLY walked up, angry. “BOSS! I should’ve known it was you! You good-for-nothing scoundrel… Let BASIL go!” SUNNY sighs, knowing where this was going. “What did BASIL ever do to you?!” KEL is fuming ANGRY. The grip on his ball was beginning to cause his fingers to go white. “Let go of him! Now!” BOSS looks down at KEL, sneering. “You idiot. You think this is about BASIL? I’m here because you didn’t invite me to hide-and-seek! I’M THE ONE WHO TAUGHT YOU ALL HOW TO PLAY! You’re not even playing it right!” BOSS chuckles darkly. “There is not enough BODY SLAMMING!” Before swinging his fist at SUNNY. SUNNY managed to dodge back, pulling out his Shiny Knife. AUBREY and KEL looked at him, shocked. “What are you doing?!” KEL asked, still ANGRY. SUNNY ignored them, attacking BOSS, swiping wildly. “AUBREY! Hit him!” SUNNY shouted. AUBREY, startled, grabbed her bat and swung as hard as she could. BOSS grunted before dropping BASIL. “That hurt… HMPH! This isn’t fun anymore!” BOSS grumbled before the tree disguise rolled back up to cover him. SUNNY let out a sigh of relief, before turning to the group. “What we consider lethal is normal here. Knives aren’t as dangerous, and leave no lasting effect. Bleeding even is foreign here.” SUNNY turns to KEL, putting a hand on his shoulder. “KEL. I need you to CALM DOWN. BASIL is fine.” KEL nodded, trying to CALM DOWN. SUNNY led him through the breathing exercise, until KEL finally felt NEUTRAL. SUNNY nodded before letting go, and KEL took the moment to walk up to BOSS and kick him in the shin, which the large man didn’t seem to be affected by. Then ran over to BASIL. BASIL looked up, as KEL ran over. “S-sorry. I wasn’t expecting to be grabbed like that.” KEL shook his head before picking up the FLOWER CROWN and carefully placing it back on BASIL’s head. “Chin up BASIL, it’s okay. I know you don’t like to fight. But I’ll protect you as much as I can.” He smiled as he helped BASIL up, and hugged him. BASIL let out a strain squeak, as he tried to hide his face.

KEL pulled back, seeing his blushing face, completely missing the reason for it. “BASIL, are you hurt?” BASIL shook his head, smiling shyly. “Don’t worry about me. I’m just fine. BOSS made sure I wasn’t hurt any more from the fight, and he didn’t mean to drop me. That’s why I looked roughed up. He even apologized for it.” BASIL turns to BOSS. “It must hurt to see people have fun without you… But that doesn’t mean you can ruin other people’s fun..” He then walked over to the sign that SUNNY just now noticed, and tore it down.

“There. Doesn’t that feel better?” BASIL gave a soft smile to BOSS, who huffed from behind his tree. “I’m staying here, this is a BOSS-only zone now!” SUNNY just watched, before noticing AUBREY had been pushed by MARI to his side, where she stood blushing. “Is MARI still teasing you?” AUBREY just nodded. SUNNY tilted his head. “What is it about now?” SUNNY was surprised to see AUBREY nearly explode from… SUNNY wasn’t sure, but there was steam coming from her ears.

“Are you okay?” AUBREY nodded frantically, looking away and fanning her face. SUNNY hums, now looking at MARI, who is looking at them and motioning at him. He’s not sure what she’s telling him to do, something with… his face? Is she making a kissy face, or just ate a lemon? SUNNY looked back at AUBREY, then at MARI, and back before shrugging and tapping AUBREY’s shoulder. She looked back at him and he got close, pressing their foreheads together and closed his eyes. AUBREY froze, having no idea what to do. Her eyes looked over to MARI, who was grabbing BASIL’s camera, and walking over. KEL and BASIL were talking very close to each other, and didn’t notice the missing camera. HERO was also watching her, and gave her a thumbs up. Her attention was back on SUNNY as he whispered. “You know… I know a place we can go to, just you and me?” MARI snuck up, trying her best not to coo and lifted the camera, snapping a picture and excitedly grabbing it, showing the two in that pose, their foreheads touching, a serene smile on SUNNY’s face, his cheeks rosy, and AUBREY blushing up a storm. Hearing the click of the camera, SUNNY turned to look at her, and she winked at him, running off with AUBREY chasing her with her STUFFED TOY, her entire body looking like a sunburn.

SUNNY just shook his head, and sighed fondly. “Yeah, they’ll be okay.” he murmured to himself, before walking over and gathering everyone. He managed to snatch the photo from MARI while she wasn’t paying attention, and slipped it into his POCKET, wanting to look at it later. Eventually he managed to get them together, and lead them down to BASIL’s house. There was a loud cracking sound and AUBREY squeaked, jumping forward and grabbing SUNNY’s hand, hiding her face while KEL laughed at her.

After some time, they come across BASIL’s house, which was shaped like a shoe. SUNNY squinted at the house. “Something is different… When did an easel get there?” The door opened slightly, and out peeked a girl SUNNY didn’t know. But given KEL’s loud noisy call, he found out quickly. “HAAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL” Huh, I think that’s the loudest he’s ever been… SUNNY looked to AUBREY, who looked dizzy. “So uh… Who’s Hazel?” AUBREY shook her head, no longer dizzy. “She’s BASIL’s cousin, staying with him while her apartment gets finalized.” SUNNY hummed and looked back, seeing KEL had run up to her and tackled her, both of them laughing.

“Are they dating?” SUNNY wondered out loud, and AUBREY choked, caught in the middle of speaking again and started to cough. MARI giggles and leans over. “Not yet~” HERO sighed. “You are your ships. Are you really going to keep playing matchmaker?” MARI smirked at him. “It worked with you, didn’t it?” HERO groaned. “True… Well let’s get going, I’m curious about the inside.” The group agreed and walked forward towards the two, who were lost in their own little world. SUNNY, feeling vengeful, called out to them. “Hey come on KEL, you two can get a room later!”

AUBREY laughed as KEL shot up, off HAZEL and started looking around wildly, while HAZEL got up calmly and brushed off her thigh highs. She was wearing a seafoam green hoodie with a star in the center, her hood and sleeves were white with the edges being the green color, and the hint of a black shirt underneath. Shorts with black and white thigh highs and black shoes. SUNNY could see a paintbrush sticking out of her POCKET, and an easel set up outside with paint. AUBREY bumped his side with her elbow, giving a playful glare. “Looking at other girls huh?” SUNNY tilted his head, humming. “No, I only have eyes for you.” Oh look, she’s a tomato again. She looks cute when she’s blushing. AUBREY hit his arm, hiding. “Uh huh, definitely…” He smiled and kept walking forward, while BASIL was… Making KEL cower? Huh, new things to see every day. “Let’s go inside!” Everyone cheered and walked in, AUBREY not letting go of his hand. As BASIL started to pull out his PHOTO ALBUM, a picture came loose and dropped to the floor. He bent to pick it up, and SUNNY started to see a shadow appear under him as he turned to look at SUNNY, AFRAID. “SUNNY… You’re..!” Everything suddenly faded, leaving SUNNY alone, and his heart started to speed up, having him hyperventilate before everything went black and he was out.
