So lore…I came up with some for the boy in the walls. Note that this has yet to become canon, but probably will eventually. So if you don’t want spoilers for what will happen in the story please don’t read.
So here’s some of the basic stuff. There is a borrower empire with an entire ruling system that is held in the sewers. Makes since right? No one ever goes down there so they can afford to make a massive (for borrowers) empire. Anyway so in this empire there’s a government system where three rulers are decided upon every 10 years.
The thing about this empire though, it that it’s so secret most borrowers don’t even know about it. Only the borrowers deemed special enough by the rulers may join. And they are very strict about the rules. You know the usual rules like “never speak to a human” or “never be seen” and such, yeah well they have punishments for people who break those rules.
So when the house borrower Oliver, who has never even heard of the empire, breaks the key rules things get messy. Oliver gets visited by one of the generals for the borrower empire. He gets kidnapped and is forced to join the borrower army. Oliver is forced to change his identity all together and must earn his ranking before he is allowed into the outside world at all.
There are four different ranking types. Feathers, which is soldiers who ride flying animals and mostly do scouting. Leafs, who gather materials and go foraging. Acorns, who do ground level exploring and ride rodents. And lastly, Needles, who are the main combat of the empire, they train in human annihilation and heavy combat.
As Oliver becomes more accustomed to the new environment, he begins to learn why the empire is so strict about its rules not being broken. The empire’s leaders had founded the entire organization in order to eventually overthrow the humans. The people who have attempted to contact humans and warn about the upcoming war are either locked up or, if they gave away too much information, they have their memories wiped.
Oliver was spared of the memory wipe because he hadn’t known about the organization, but is warned that if he ever contacted a human he would be executed.
Oliver does discover that civilization life is actually quite pleasant as it is much easier to borrow with the empire’s help. Easy person mush go into a rank at the age 13 and may retire at the age 60, unless they have some kind of disorder preventing them from helping. They also have the option of being elected as one of the next rulers if they are ranked high enough. The different ways you are rankle are: novice, soldier, captain, general, and elite. The elette are usually the only people elected, but there are only a few.
Yeah so I lore dumped…if any of that made since, then great! If it didn’t, feel free to ask me further about it. Or don’t. Anyway, here are some sketches of characters and stuff.
This is the basic uniform for empirical soldier and the character designs for the webcomic.
