I feel like any time someone talks about wanting media with grey morality, nuance, explicit LGBT rep, disabled characters, fantasy that isn't White People Central- like all of that is found in The Dragon Prince and it knocks it out of the park. We have 5 seasons, it's confirmed to finish its run of 7 seasons and we're getting some spinoff media too like the video game and who knows what else, and I'm like. There are so many people I feel who would go WILD for this but

Even its connection with ATLA (which doesn't define TDP at all but I recognize it's some of what gets some people's foot in the door) doesn't seem to have pulled Big Fandom back in

The tumblr exodus really did damage plus the production hiatus seemed to land at such a time that the show is SUPERB better than it ever was before and it's always been good but fandom seems so much smaller than it used to be

I know TDP gets critical acclaim and we reach global Top 10 when new stuff drops but

As far as online fandom presence goes

Man. It's gotta be timing or something because it's so weird to me that there's like. Not even 1k fics on AO3 tagged Aaravos. The most popular TDP posts made nowadays peak at 4k MAX while sometimes I see art from 2019 that managed 30k notes like where is everyone -sobs-

I do love this fandom but I can't believe it isn't THE big thing I genuinely don't know why except timing and online spaces being hostile to fandom? Idk

okay but to the people that saw the first episode of season 6 tdp i need to know about rayla’s ponytail. bc i know me and everyone else thinks her hair has gotten longer considering how thick her bun is, there’s no way the bun would be that thick with the length her hair was at before, it has to be at least a few inches longer because it was just a few inches past her shoulders before.

my point is i need to know if her ponytail shows that her hair has grown some or if it just looks like it’s the same length it was before

I read Puzzle House and still trying to gather my thoughts over it but like. Main takeaways:

Harrow's father! Always interesting to see more of the lore expanded

This is the first time Callum has commented on his birth father, right? I got the impression he didn't remember him at all but it seems as though he was probably old enough to at least remember some things about his birth father. I'd love to see that relationship expanded on

We got a greater sense of timeline on what's going on with Soren's past. This isn't the first time it's been mentioned that he was a sick kid - I think it was mentioned in passing once in the show, and then a couple times in the first novelization - probably in the other novelizations too, but I haven't read those.

I've been informed he appears in S5 of the TV show, but I haven't seen S5 so - first mention of Kpp'Ar. I'm interested in the role he plays in the backstory of the mage family, especially given some of my theories up to this point.

Not to state the obvious, but: What the hell is up with that map? Where is it?

I wish the graphic novel had expanded more on Soren's relationship to magical creatures. How did this contribute to his feelings about magical creatures? What does he think of this experience ten years after the fact? This feels like it was a tacked-on addition to canon rather than a well thought out piece of his backstory.

In the same vein, I feel this novel confused more than explained Claudia's relationship to magic and magical creatures. By the time the show rolls around, she's clearly got a lot of apathy, if not malice, for them, so what changed? I'm not claiming it's a plot hole, but it doesn't feel complete.

Hopefully this won't be as bad as Through the Moon, but I hope they won't do the same thing they did with Through the Moon where it's not "necessary" to read this to understand canon, but it is confusing to watch canon without reading this first. (I'm still annoyed about how they handled the events of Through the Moon in canon. They barely glazed over them, even though Through the Moon is a ridiculously important part of the story.)

Viren's role as a father is very interesting to me. I actually really liked his character in this - it's easy to see how this Viren could grow into show!Viren.

The art style was VERY cute, and I loved the designs for younger Claudia, Soren, and Callum. I need to get a PDF copy of the book to copy some panels that were really well done.
