The Heart Forger

Overall:

-     I really was into the future portion of this book.  I feel like they are telling an even deeper story than the main plot line right now.  The harsh differences between the characters in the future scenes and the present scenes is really interesting to read.  

-     The PAIN I am feeling from the fact that Kalen and Tea have yet to kiss is agonizing.  Like getting to read about how much they love and care for one another in the future scenes but not getting that in the present is so hard to read.  Thankfully by the end they got their acts together and finally kissed.  

-     I found this book to go on a little longer then it should have.  Like it was little slower in the end then what I wanted it to be.

i would just like to say that Rin Chupeco owns my heart after establishing such a richly diverse and in-depth world of the Bone Witch

she has these strong women who possess powerful magic but are also dancers and musicians!!

she has a male who decides fuck the status quo i want to be an Asha and learn to be delicate and fierce all at the same time, not just a Deathseeker being forced into wars i don’t want

she has strong female mentors and friends who love their student so much but also know that once she has become a woman she must make her own decisions

she has people questioning the rules of their society, and ultimately some even destroying the evil parts

she also has several women (and men!) of color and (as far as i have read, to the heart forger) a loving lesbian relationship!!!!!

The Bone Witch

Things I liked:

-     I love the use of two different Tea’s to tell the story.  it gives the whole story a bit of a foreboding feeling.  Cause the future Tea obviously went through something that made her turn on both the Willow and the Faceless.  So she is now on a side all her own.  And the fact that she is using the daeva instead of killing them like the world wants is worrying.  

-     The fact that Karen is the one she falls in love with and not Kance was a shocker.  Like when she resurrected her love from the grave at the end of the book I expected it to be Kance.  But I liked that fact that it was like a curve ball thrown at us.  

Things I didn't like:

-     The beginning of this book was very dry and boring.  That's mostly why I DNfed it to being with! It was kind of hard to get past all the world building.  But once you do its actually a really good book! 

Overall:

-     I am so happy that I went back and tried this book again!  After getting through the relatively boring and long first half its pretty good!  The story is very interesting.  And the world is also really interesting.  The way that the author uses and present Tea and a future Tea to tell the story is fun to read.  I mean I read the book in one day.  So that has to say something positive about the book!  I’m very excited to see where the story takes us in the next two books.
