I love the small slither of story Zena n Thaniea’s son Kalen has in his story.

It's like.

Kalen: I'm going on a trip on a ship, just a little flight. I love this pilot, we're very close.

Then he literally crashes into another planet and almost dies.

Like? That shouldn't be funny but it is.

Then the rest of his story is like.

Kalen: I've made friends with these people I met, I don't know who they are but I see them as friends. I am having an okay time.

Then he has to deal with this villain who literally wants to murder him and his mums.

He has trauma and he's barely a character yet.

Ember felt more nervous about this than any other reading he’d done so far. He looked at Kalen, always seeming happy go lucky, and worried he’d see something either damning or upsetting for him. He opened his mouth to say that maybe it wasn’t a good idea, before quickly closing it again.

“Alright. Let’s see what there is…” He closed his eyes.

He imagined the man in front of him, his friend, and the gold thread leaving his body. It twisted and tangled, Ember carefully following the main thread from his body.

It was cold. That was the first thing Ember noted, and as the scene in front of him materialized he realized it was winter break at NRU. He was somewhere he didn’t recognize, but he did recognize the figure in their bed. Kalen looked like he was… crying? Ember wanted to reach out and comfort him even though he knew he was nothing more than a watcher in this scene. There was a knock at the door and Kalen told whoever was on the other side to leave him alone.

“Great Seven, why are you so sensitive,” The voice on the other side of the door shouted, “Damn kid.” The scene faded away as Kalen wrapped himself further into his blankets, and Ember opened his eyes.

“Your Dad’s wrong about you, you know,” He said before thinking, “I mean- sorry. I saw you at home during winter break cry-“ Maybe it’s best to leave that out. “-Laying, I mean, in bed. Your dad said you were ‘so sensitive’ and being a jerk. If you want my two thaumarks on it though, that’s something good about you. You caring about others and having emotions and everything.”
