Can I recommend you Tenmaku Cinema?
Tumblr media
This manga is one of Shonen Jump's newer series. It started April 9, 2023 and is currently 14 chapter long.
The story revolves around Hajime Shinichi, a big movie fanatic who gets possessed by the ghost of Takihiko Tenmaku, an aspiring screenwriter who died 30 years ago. Tenmaku had desired to have a script he wrote called The Fang be directed by a famous movie director Ryu Shirakawa only to find out Shirakawa had passed away 20 years ago.
Tenmaku is then inspired to write a short film script called The Shore and wants Shinichi to direct it. And now we have a story about Shinichi and his friends learning the ins-and-outs of film-making.
This is a series where the stakes are "We need to get this film made before summer ends" and the mysteries are "Who is Tenmaku and what was The Fang?" Many chapters revolve around aspects of film-making such as method acting, location scouting, and film editing techniques. The most recent chapter was about them spending two hours redecorating a bedroom to shoot a single scene.
While I would have recommended it even before, I would seriously recommend Tenmaku Cinema due to the WGA and SAG strikes. This is about students making an indie film, but it gives a light demonstration of the hard work that goes into making a great film.
If this series ever gets an anime adaptation, I should hope The Shore and any other films that the characters make actually become movies as well. It feels appropriate that a manga about making a movie ends with a movie adaptation of the movie they're making.

Hinaki Kurai, from Tenmaku Cinema
I've been greatly enjoying this one in Jump lately. Easily one of my favorite comics running in the magazine right now.
