Okay so this is just a post of all the things I especially 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀 in the trailer (I screencapped these out of order woops)
1. Sam opening the door for (her second dad) Johnny + Amanda and Chozen there to meet him -- one big polyamorous family vibe
2. Chozen group-fighting all of these guys (I had originally thought the close-up was sad, now I realise it might just be like “well, guess I’ve gotta beat up all these guys”)
3. This argument RIGHT after Amanda confronts Terry (she’s in the same dress) -- I’m guessing Daniel “warned her off” or something and she’s through feeling patronised, which leads us to the next image -- far right, is that Amanda bowing??? training Amanda???!!!
4. Daniel looking at both of his guys!!! the team-up!!!! it’s happening!!! bonus, Daniel with a bruise on his eye -- I write a post about Daniel getting beaten up, we get a beaten up (lightly, elegantly, beautifully) Daniel! And his boys standing there with him!
5. AND HIS BOYS ON THEIR OWN GOING TO CAUSE MAYHEM @le-red-queen REMEMBER WHAT WE WERE SAYING ABOUT JOHNNY GETTING HARNESSED???

So season 6 is filming! I honestly would love to have Daniel resort to using Terry’s help from jail to defeat Kreese once and for all. It ain’t gonna happen but one can dream! I do feel like Terry will die in this season, but I’d like to see him murder Kreese first, and then die from heart failure as he goes up against Daniel again. Maybe die in Daniel’s arms but it ain’t gonna happen lol. That’s too much for the red-blooded viewers of the show 🙄💩
I'm glad they dropped the death angle specifically in S5, and honestly, I'd rather have no Terry than that storyline in S6 because I have a lot of trouble completely ignoring canon in my fic. I could see him show up in the Sekai Taikai, but I'm fine with Terry sulking on a private island somewhere. And Kreese's storyline is beyond ridiculous at this point.
I think this season should be about the kids finally being allowed to grow up and go off into the world and what that means to Johnny and Daniel. Robby and Miguel honestly reacting to the baby and the fact that as a father figure, Johnny is... hopefully on a learning curve. Let Daniel grapple with his actual father. Let Sam figure out who she is at last. What is Johnny gonna do with his kids gone? An honest heart to heart with what Kreese actually meant. Find Tory some stability.
I doubt that is what we're gonna get because these writers are fine with having character stay underdeveloped to spend more time with Stingray and they've run out of movie characters to bring back. But if I had to do it, I would think about what yet another tournament means for each of them and how you can weave that into an arc and then see where that causes conflict but what they're probably going to do is introduce yet another character to liven things up. And if you must, I'd rather they delve a bit into Kenny, Robby and his brother next to the inevitable Anthony vs Kenny.
As for Terry - I may have said this here but I could see Daniel actually being at his bedside if he were to die, maybe call him "Sensei" for the first and only time. I think they could both kill a scene like that.

Some wonky things about Cobra Kai S5 that just hit me like a brick over the head:
― The villains being shown as childless, family-less and ultimately loveless. They’re The Others. It is only the heroes and those on the path of redemption who have or will have families, found families, actual friends (they don’t have to bribe or buy), offspring (adoptive or otherwise) and committed significant others.
― The grounded, nuanced representation of Terry Silver we were promised somehow boiled down to an age old stereotype of a youth-corrupting, greedy, materialistic, manipulative, snake emblematic, wealthy, sleazy Jewish man who wants to take over the world and ‘Steal the soul of The Valley’. In 2022, year of our Lord.
― The characters morals and ethics are ultimately measured by their proximity to either Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence as the sole arbitraries of all good, proper values respectively. If you’re on the side of all things right, you’re either on the track of being on their side, or merely getting there.
― Women are mothers and girlfriends, and sometimes, when we want to supposedly up the anti and shake up the diversity, they’re also angry Asian Dragon Lady tropes --- who is also single, by the way. Because no heroic person is ever left unpaired with someone else and when they are left single, they’re going through a Dark Night of The Soul, the way Sam and Tory respectively did.
― Johnny Lawrence more than ever before being posed as the model of old timey, bygone 80′s masculinity and ideals and getting endless do-overs, second, third and fourth chances and rewards over literally doing the bare minimum and sometimes not even that much, with his character arc progressing backwards so much, he is literally a comedic caricature of his former self.
― Sometimes violence is bad and sometimes it is okay and even justified. Really depends who does it. If someone bad does it, then clearly, it is bad, and if someone good does it, then it is conveniently forgotten about, pushed under the rug, made light of, glossed over and scrapped as a plot-point.
― The complex, layered friendship between John and Terry being revised in such a weird, inconsistent fashion where Johnny Lawrence, is yet again, inserted in the midst of them as the one ‘John cared for more’ to once more, distance John from Terry and bring him closer on the moral scale to the ‘side of right’ by him having just a teeny, tiny bit of attachment more to the prime model arbitrary of the show.
― The original pacifist heart and message of the whole franchise somehow culminated in an overblown sword vs sai duel one on one, Daniel pulverizing his foe in front of an audience in an elaborate humiliation conga, in an all out chaotic battle where everyone fought everyone on a big messy, violent pile and yet only Terry Silver got apprehended and nobody got questioned and at this point, this is all about as pacifist as a nuclear explosion.
― The importance of everything oscillating wildly and bizarrely depends where the plot needs it to be and depending who gets the sympathetic spotlight this time around. Last season, Terry was suffering from war flashbacks and obviously unhealed, suppressed trauma that has haunted him all his life. This season, he says he never had to scrape for anything (not even through Vietnam and a POW camp?). This season, we also get Samantha’s trauma nightmare nexus treated with the seriousness Terry doesn’t get.
― Cobra Kai (the evil guys) still being the most diverse of dojos, of course and don’t get me started about the lack of any other sexuality other than straight.

Chozen!!!!!
Robby and Johnny's series of misadventures has my heart. It's even more chaotic than I would have imagined. Oh my goodness - how are they both as dumb as eachother? They just 'okay' each other's ridiculousness. I hope they find miguel soon because Robby cannot be trusted with the braincell.

Talking about honour. I kinda love it.
Oh Tory. Flat out confirmation she didn't actually win. Terry is such a slick manipulator that it's honestly impressive how easy he can reframe everything. He went straight for her survival buttons.
Aw, Robby can convert money. He can have the braincell back.
Nope. He's going to eat hot chillis to find miguel.
(see this is exactly why Robby can't be trusted with the braincell).

Ah, this is a completely irrelevant rant, but I have whiskey thoughts. Suntory is a gigantic alcohol/drinks company that is comparative to coke in size and market domination in japan - not a little bespoke distillery brewing things the scottish way.
Also the Hibiki is objectively better than the Yamazaki. So there, Terry.
The belief people put in stories is more powerful - i see a theme for the season.
Importance of legacy - oop there's another theme.

Oh Miguel is actually breaking me heart right now. How quickly his dad changed and turned on him. Xolo plays the moment so well.

Yeah, karate vs mma. Love how the spanish annoucer takes one look at Johnny and calls him crazy blond man.
The hot chilli had plot signifigance???

Chozen!!!!!!!!!! Everything about that was epic.
Chozen continues to be an utter delight even when he's threatening.
Oh greek mythology shout out. This is like the third show I've seen yo explicitly use icarus as a motif between two male characters with father/son vibes and completely fucked up power dynamics.
Oh Miguel, bby. My heart aches for him. That was just a slow motion horror show of every hope and illusion this kid had about his father evaporating before his eyes. And then hector bitches about yaya too!!
(too far, hector).
And I kinda love that Miguel figured it out on his own THEN found Johnny. He needed that hug so bad.
Oh damn though, that is a mirror image framing of when Robby first saw his dad hug miguel. (totally different emotions/stakes but still).
This is going to be a super awkward car trio home.

absolutely deranged season babes. i did like it a little more than season 4. my fave parts were young cobra husbands (they were so in love with each other if they would've fucked in the 60's like normal people a whole ass karate war could've been avoided), protective chozen A+++, chozen vs terry downright insane, daniel + johnny + mike + chozen peak comedy and nostalgia, the sneaky miguel + robby hug, tory + sam trying their best with each other...that's all for now. goodnight!
