Dear catcf fandom,
Have you watched all the adaptations of catcf? Are you still so terribly desperate for media about children in candy factories? Do you wish catcf was just a little less goofy and had some kinda serious plot lines? Did you ever want the book to be about 453 pages long? Did you ever wants the sequel to be over 500 pages long?
If none of these apply to you I don’t give a shit, go read the candymakers by Wendy mass, I promise it’s worth it, it’s a multi pov book about 4 kids who were entered into a contest and must compete inside an eccentric candy makers weird and wacky factory, it’s also so much longer that catcf, AND THERES AN EVEN LONGER SEQUEL!!!
Sincerely, the most sane person in this fandom, Abe.

How should live action media handle stuff like burn scars? I was thinking about this book The Candymakers where a main character has burn scars on his arms and face from a very plot relevant event; the scars itch and make him drop things, and his arc involves realizing ppl treat him differently b/c of how he looks. If someone made a TV show or something out of that, should they look for someone with those specific scars or just use makeup?
So I actually have quite a bit of scarring myself because of cystic acne and selfharming and my aunt suffered burns on like 50% of her body as a kid in the 70s. Honestly I think we really need to see more burn victims in media. Like I follow amputees and people with acne scarring like mine on youtube that can cover it up you know? But I rarely see people with burn scars on social media. And like my aunt is pretty she's always been pretty to me but I've never seen burn victims in magazines or even tiktok or insta.
Tbh I think an effort should be made to include more burn victims in media and we shouldn't rely so much on makeup and visual fx. Also you don't have to have the same burn pattern you could definitely adjust the burn pattern to an existing person.

I was going through your fox's tongue and kirin's bone (love that book) tag and just saw that you've read the candymakers too! That's awesome! I love the candymakers so much and I've never heard of anyone else who's read it. It's use of perspective is so neat. I love how drastically the story changes each new perspective, and the way the story plays with the way we view ourself, the way others view us, and the way we want to be viewed. And then the way it all comes together at the end! It's really fun! So cool to find someone else out in the wild who likes that book as well :D
Oh! That's awesome! And yeah you really hit the nail on the head with what makes the Candymakers so great. The big and little differences between how the characters see each other and how they see themselves is just... perfect.

The Candymakers by Wendy Mass is a masterclass in Point of View hiding and revealing information. Is there any other book or story that tackles POVs like that? Covering the same events from different characters' Points of View and revealing not only what the characters think of each other and the situations they're in but also what they think of themselves

One trope that I’ve only come across a few times but is GOLD!!! is when a character has some sort of huge scar or something but you don’t find this out until it switches pov and one of the characters sees it for the first time.
First time I remember reading it was in The Candymakers by Wendy Mass (great book!) The main character for the first pov has massive burn scars all over his body and you don’t find this out until you get to the second pov and the 2nd pov character goes “oh shit this kid has scars, good lord!”
