i do love it when jal are written as aggressive and rough with each other but i love gentle jal as well. i love them being so overwhelmed and confused by what they feel they just don’t say anything at all, too scared to ruin anything. i love them dropping the cruel pretences, if only momentarily, and allowing themselves a moment of vulnerability with each other, entirely depending all too recklessly on trust and shared understanding. i love their quiet moments where they’re not quite touching but the energy is almost palpable. i love the intensity of their softness, it all being so unknown and alien to them, as they both flounder trying to make sense of it all.

You stared wide-eyed at the letter held in your eyes; sent, written, and signed by King Ben himself.
Dear Mr. Harry Hook and Ms. (y/n) of the isle. His Royal Majesty, King Ben of Auradon, and his Councilor Ms. Evie of the Isle, hereby request the pleasure of your company, for the upcoming academic year at Auradon prep. Please notify his Majesty’s couriers of your response to this request.
-we’d love to have you three with us here in Auradon, you and your child deserve a better life, will you come? If you accept you will be picked up one week from your response date and will live in the dorms until graduation. - King Ben
It had been around two months since the whole ‘kidnapping ben for the wand’ situation, and Ben had not been able to get you, Harry, and your baby off his mind. And before anybody else could stop him; he made the arrangements for the three of you to live in Auradon, and sent the very invitation you were holding now.
You stood from the barrel you were sitting on and walked into your shared room with Harry, holding up the letter as he looked up from feeding Arella. “what’s up-“ he paused as you turned the letter around and let him read it. His eyes went wide “holy shit, is-is that fer real?!” he stood, gently moving Arella into your arms and taking the latter, reading it over and over again “holy shit it's real-we-i-you…” he looked back up at you, reaching out for your free hand and intertwined your fingers “should we do this?”
You thought about it for a moment, then looked down at Arella, smiling as she played with your jacket straps “yes…yes we should” you smiled up at Harry, who seemed unsure of this decision but he would follow you into oblivion.
“Okay, I trust yeh” he mumbled, kissing your lips and then Arella’s head.
-
Only a week later, you and Harry were packing the last of your things up to leave for Auradon, Gil had been invited as well, already at the other end of the tunnel to wait for the limo with Dizzy; who had also been invited.
Harry slung his bag over his shoulder and picked Arella up off his bed, cradling her carefully in his arms and leading the way out of his room and onto the main deck, where the rest of the crew were waiting.
They all said their goodbyes, Desiree and Drey cooing at Arella and Harry let crew say their personal goodbyes to her. Bonnie squeezing you tightly as you patted her head “stay safe you two” Jonas mumbled, patting Harry’s shoulder as he took Arella from him “and take care of the pirate princess” you and Harry nodded, the crew waving goodbye as you walked off the docks through the tunnel.
You stood with Gil and Dizzy a few moments later, waiting anxiously for the arriving Limo. And behold a minute later it pulled up, the driver stepping out and unlocking the back, helping the four of you load up. Harry took all your bags and stuffed them in the trunk, Dizzy sliding into the car first and taking Arella for you to get in easier.
Harry and Gil soon got in and Harry slid next to you, wrapping one arm around you and the other on Arella, rubbing his thumb on her chest as her tiny little hand curled around his forefinger hanging from your shoulder. “we ready?” Harry whispered, leaning in close to you. You nodded with a nervous smile and Harry kissed your cheek “let’s do this”
-
Two hours later the limo pulled up to Auradon prep, where Ben, Evie, Carlos, Jay, and Ben’s mother all stood ready to welcome the four of you. Dizzy bolted out first as soon as the door open and leaped into Evie’s arms, the two squealing with each other in excitement at Dizzy finally being in Auradon.
You weren’t surprised Mal wasn’t there, she didn’t trust or like Harry or Gil at all and probably felt betrayed by you for siding with Uma after she left.
Ben stepped forward as you, Harry, and Gil climbed out of the car, holding a sleeping Arella in your arms. Evie and Belle immediately went soft at the sight of her but kept their composer as Ben stepped forward with a smile “Welcome to Auradon: Ben said happily, clapping his hands together “first I want to apologize it took so long, and second; thank you for accepting my invitation. I know it was hard to make that choice in both trusting me and leaving behind the isle and your family” you knew he meant the crew “but I promise they will soon follow and now;” he gestured back to the dorm building “let’s get you all set up.” You nodded, letting Evie step closer and coo over Arella.
“oh she’s so cute~” Evie giggled, pressing her fingers into Arella’s (not as pudgy as it should be) cheek softly, your baby girl gurgled and pushed Evie’s hand away, Evie laughing quietly at it “oh I love her already…(y/n)?” you hummed, not looking at her as you followed Ben through the halls of the building “im sorry I left you”
You looked into her eyes, softening a bit as you could only see sincerity in her eyes. “i-“ you started, lifting Arella in your arms a bit, her head cradled in your arm. “i-…don’t forgive you, not just yet but” you smiled at her as her face fell but rose in hope at the ‘but’ “we can start with being friends again?” Evie beamed and nodded, looking over at Jay and Carlos who were letting Evie talk to you first before they tried “and them too, I can tell they want to apologize…Mal thought” Evie winced at that, yeah; Mal would probably take a long time to come around. She had even cussed (y/n) out at the hideout after Evie the boys told her about (y/n)s relationship with Harry and her position on the crew.
‘she betrayed us as soon as we left! We can't trust her! Or Harry! they might lead Uma right into Auradon to destroy it!’
To say the least, Evie and the boys distanced themselves from Mal; after seeing her very narrow tunnel vision, they didn’t want to hear her bitch about (y/n) and Harry’s arrival at Auradon.
Evie hoped she would come around soon though; she missed the days of the five of them running around causing chaos. But reminiscing about the wicked old days could be saved for later, as Ben had led the group to one of the dorm rooms.
“Harry, (y/n)?” Ben called, Harry humming and looking up from Arella as he made faces at her “this will be your dorm room” Harry looked surprised at that, he had expected the dorms to separate them but-
Ben opened the door to reveal a large room, two full-sized beds by the windows (that could be easily pushed together), a crib, a newly installed mini kitchen with a working stovetop, a large dresser (two actually) flowing with baby blankets, baby clothes (designed by Evie), toys, baby food, diapers, wipes, anything a young parent could ask for.
“guys” your voice cracked as you walked into the room, Arella already reaching for the teal octopus plush sitting in her new crib “this is-i-holy shit!” Harry walked up behind you, resting his hands on your shoulders as he looked around the room with watery eyes.
“I don’ know wha’ ta say” Harry croaked out, turning back to Ben; who just smiled.
“a thank you would be nice” Ben joked then waved it off “we’ll let you settle in, Gil, Dizzy?” the two turned to Ben, who waved them out of the room “I’ll show you to your rooms” Gil gave you and Harry a hug and kissed Arella’s forehead, running out of the room after Ben and the others as he closed the door.
“we’re actually here” you breathed out after a moment of silence, slowly spinning around the room. “actually in Auradon”
“aye,” Harry muttered, noticing your bags had already been brought into the room “kinda weird we’re not ‘ere ta destroy it” you chuckled, handing Arella to him and checking over her new items, Harry cooing at her and lifting her into the air, her adorable baby babble echoing around the room.
A few hours later, everything had been unpacked and set up, Arella was dressed in one of her new outfits, of course, designed by Evie; a tiny red jacket that copied Harrys iconic one, black shorts, booties, and a white t-shirt with a spray paint hook on the front. “hi darling” Harry cooed, kissing his daughters cheek multiple times as she giggled “ah yeh look so badass~”
You laughed at his adorable behavior with your kid and walked over to him, slipping on one of your new jackets from Evie and kissing his cheek “and you are so cute” Harry flushed but accepted the compliment, bringing Arella to his chest and enveloping her in his arms as you grabbed Arella’s dinner. “come on, Ben said we were going out for dinner tonight” Harry hummed, grabbing a baby sling and putting it on, then slipping Arella inside.
-
You sighed, setting down your book bag next to the door and closing it with your foot. You appreciated the fact that FG gave you and Harry only four classes a day (and switched the two of you off so Harry took care of her in the afternoon while you took the morning shift) so you could attend to Arella more often than not but that didn’t prevent you from being exhausted from them.
You looked up and cooed, Harry was on your now connected beds, asleep with Arella sleeping on his chest, his arms curled around her safely. you quickly took a picture with your phone and sent it to Evie, who immediately sent back several heart-eye emojis.
You put your phone on the table and walked over to the bed, carefully climbing on and resting your chin on Harry’s shoulder, reaching up and caressing Arella’s soft cheek. Harry grumbled as he felt you and took one of his arms off of Arella and wrapped it around you, pulling you even further into his side “afternoon my love” you mumbled, leaning up and kissing his cheek “how’d she do?”
“ ‘ad a lil’ tantrum afta’ yeh left, missed ‘er mommy but” he yawned in the middle of his sentence and pushed his cheek onto your head “she did good, fell asleep ‘bout n’ ‘our ‘go”
You hummed and rubbed your thumb on Arella’s chest, she hadn’t even moved in the few minutes you had been on the bed “that’s good, did she eat her lunch?” Harry sleepily nodded and was already falling asleep again, following Arella’s lead.
You stared at the two loves of your life, and you thanked whatever gods that had intervened in your life to let you meet Harry almost two years ago and saved you from meeting a bad end with the Gaston twins. And then you had fallen for him and fallen for him hard. And you didn’t regret going behind your friend's backs to be with him; not if it resulted in the greatest thing you had ever made, that was sleeping on his chest.
-end-

Pairing - Harry Hook x Reader (female) Descendant of - Rumpelstiltskin (I love writing for this descendant lol) Summary – The daughter of Rumpelstiltskin is place under Audrey’s sleeping spell and the VKs need the help of a hook-handling pirate to reverse it Warning(s) - none really
* The story line of Descendants 3 is changed slightly to fit the request *
Tumblr media
(Y/N) had a slight pep in her step as she made her way to the Enchanted Lake for Jane’s birthday party, her gift in her hands. She was meant to be meeting her fellow VKs at the said party since she had a few things to do beforehand. She wore a a deep red, short romper that had white vertical stripes and buttons down the front with black, strappy heels. Her beautiful hair laid naturally and her makeup was simple and perfect. The only jewelry she wore were her rings. (Y/N) was making her way through the forest to get to the lake when a puff of pink smoke and a loud bang stopped her dead in her tracks. She looked to her left to shockingly see Audrey, who not only had pink and purple hair now and wore a full leather outfit but held Malificent’s Scepter and the Queen’s crown was on her head.
“Have you gone insane?” (Y/N) couldn’t help the scoffed laugh that came out of her mouth as she spoke, still in shock.
“I really hoped I would run into you.” Audrey responded, an evil smirk on her face as she walked towards the girl.
“Give me the scepter.” (Y/N) demanded with her free hand extended, not caring to be nice anymore because there was no telling what Audrey could do, “You and I both know you’re not strong enough to hold its magic.”
“I am though.” Audrey spoke sweetly and before the daughter of Rumpelstiltskin could respond, the girl used the powerful scepter to cast a sleeping spell on her. The gift fell out of her hands as she dropped to the ground, nearly lifeless. The last thing she heard was evil laugh coming from Audrey as darkness cover her in a blanket.

Harry hadn’t expected much of the day, it was as if every day was running together. The only difference was the increasing amount of time he and (Y/N) had been apart from one another. He was picking through some food at the Chip shop when the doors swung violently and showed Mal, Evie, Jay, Carlos, and Cecilia.
“What do you want?” Uma called out, annoyed. Both Harry and Gil rounded the long bar table they sat at, ready for the defense.
“It’s (Y/N).” Mal spoke shortly. Her words stopped the hook-handling pirate dead in his tracks as a million possibilities ran through his head.
“What about her?” Harry’s thick accent was laced with concern as he stared down the purple haired girl.
“She was put under a sleeping spell and we need you to break it.” Mal told him. Panic has never ran through him as in that moment. He didn’t wait for Uma or Gil or anyone to agree, he just followed the VKs that betrayed him and his crew as fast as he could. On their way back to Evie’s home, they explained everything that had been occurring lately with Audrey and her revenge. Once reaching the cottage-like home, Evie quickly led Harry back to the room they moved (Y/N) to after finding her in the forest. She not only looked beautiful like always, she looked peaceful but looks can be tricky. His heart raced as he looked over the girl, nearly lifeless. He ran a hand down the side of her face, tears welled up in his eyes as he spoke gently, the most gentle the other VKs have ever heard him.
“(Y/N), my beautiful, my love.” Harry nearly whispered his words to the girl who didn’t respond.
“True love’s kiss.” Uma reminded him quietly from the doorway.
“What are you talking about?” Harry asked, his red, puffy eyes not leaving her soft face.
“It works every time.” The sea-witch reminded the boy as he looked over his shoulder at his captain, realization finally hitting him. He turned back to (Y/N) and leaned in for the first kiss they would’ve shared in months. Silence gripped them tightly as they all waited to see what would happen but nothing was, breaking the pirate even further.
“(Y/N), please wake up. I don’t know what I’d do without you.” His voice broke with his words. Suddenly, (Y/N) woke. She blinked rapidly to gain her surroundings as she pieced together what had happened to her when he eyes landed on Harry’s.
“Harry.” She sighed happily, she wrapped her arms around his neck as his instantly went around her waist as they held each other as tight as possible.
“I love you, beautiful.” Harry responded into her neck, his tears of now joy collected into her shoulder and the material of her romper.
“I love you.” (Y/N) told the pirate as if it wasn’t obviously more now than ever. They pulled away and looked at each other for a moment before (Y/N) really took in her surroundings. She was in Evie’s home, not where she was cursed to fall into a deep state of slumber. She noticed the rest of the VKs standing in the doorway, some of them with tears in their eyes.
“Where’s Audrey? She has the scepter.” (Y/N) informed.
“We know. We need to stop her and i think I know where we can find her.” Mal spoke for the group and they were on their way to safe both Audron and the Isle.

A/N I hope you enjoyed! I’m sorry it’s so short and I didn’t really know how to end it so I just ended it? lol  Proofread

I Do Believe In Fairies - Harry Hookxfem!
Tumblr media
"Y/n come on!" Mal said, as she jumped up and down on my bed. "Ugh why" I said, rolling over and hugging the blanket to my chest. "3 more VK's are coming to Auradon! You know that" she said as she pulled my arms, getting me out of bed. "Fine" I said, walking towards my closet and picking out and outfit. It was some black ripped jeans with a blue denim jacket and black crop top.
I walked out of my dorm room, making sure to lock the door this time as stupid Chad Charming or should I say Chad Fuckface, keeps breaking into my dorm room and using my 3D printer. Anyway, how rude of me, my name is Y/n Bell, daughter of Tinkerbell and yes, I am a fairy but can't fly. I know, shit right. Even though my mother can be very fancy and posh, I am quite the opposite. I don't really like the idea of being a pretty pink princess, wearing tiaras and jewellery. I prefer to wear chill and casual clothes, so people know that I'm so much more than Tinkerbell's daughter.
I never knew who my father was. My mother never talked about him, there are rumours that my father could be Peter Pan, but mother always changes the subject when I ask about it. Anyway, I've always loved when new VK's arrive, especially since I met Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos, we all clicked straight away and became best friends. Now Ben, who has been made the king, made it my job to greet the new VK's and show them around the school. And when I found out who I was showing around, man was I excited.
_
"Anyway, it's good to meet you all and- oh finally Y/n" Ben said walking up to me. "Sorry, I woke up late" I said, dusting off any dirt on my outfit. "You will be showing these people around today" Ben said, pointing to them. I smiled at them all but one caught my eye. An incredibly attractive boy, with messy brown hair, ice blue eyes and a hook. He was wearing a grey shirt with a bunch of holes in it, and on top of it a red coat. He seemed to be holding the hook in his hands which made me realise he must of been the son of Captain Hook. I walked up to them as Ben introduced me to each of them.
"So this is Gil" he said, pointing to a boy with fair hair, down to his shoulders, with a bandana on, he seemed to be wearing mostly brown and he smiled at me and put his hand out for me to shake. I smiled back and shook his hand. "This is Uma" Ben then said, pointing to a pretty girl with light blue hair and blue clothing on. She smiled but didn't go in for a hand shake. "Lastly, this is Harry" he said, pointing to the attractive boy.
He was fidgeting with his hook and looked up at me. His eyes widened as he saw me and smirked. I looked away quickly before I could blush as I started to feel my face heating up. "So Y/n will be showing you around today" Ben said, before leaving. I smiled at Harry as he continued to look me up and down. "Well let's get on with the tour" I said, clapping my hands together.
I started by leading them through the hallways and to their rooms. Most of the tour was just Gil making jokes and Harry making flirty comments towards me and then Uma smacking him playfully on the arm. At every comment he made, I could feel my face heat up even more. We eventually got to all of the rooms, lastly stopping at Harry's room. "So this is your dorm, you will be sharing with Gil" I said, opening the door. Gil, straight away, ran up to the bed and started jumping on it like a little kid. "So! Much! Fun!" He said in between jumps.
Harry and I laughed as he jumped higher and higher. "So, I guess I'll see you around" I said, holding Harry's arm "Wait!" He said, grabbing ahold of my wrist. "Could we hangout later?" He asked me. I felt my heart flutter in my chest as he said that. Did he just ask me out? I thought to myself. "Like a date?" I asked him, hoping his answer would be yes. He nodded as I smiled at him and took his hand. "Definitely" I said before kissing his cheek. His face went red and he smirked at me. "Ooh" Gil said, as he sat up on the bed. Harry glared at him which made Gil hide his face with a pillow. "I'll see you later then" he said, brushing his hand through his hair. "Yeah, I'll see you later" I said, before walking out the door.
_
Harry's POV
I was just getting ready for my date when somebody knocked at the door. I groaned and walked over to it, unaware that I was still shirtless. "What do you want?" I asked as I opened the door, not realising it was Y/n. "Oh hey sorry" I said, blushing. She bit her lip as her eyes rolled down my body. I couldn't help but smirk as she was looking at my abs. She quickly snapped out of it and looked back at my eyes. "It's ok, but could we move the date to 6:30 as I have a bit of homework to catch up on" she said, smiling at me. "Oh yeah sure" I said nodding. "Great" she said, before walking back down the corridor.
_
Ursula's POV
"Great" I said, smiling at the pirate boy standing in front of me before walking back down the corridor. I quickly walked into the toilets and into a stall so that nobody could see me and changed back into my normal self. "This is going to be easy" I whispered to myself, before turning into Harry. I looked in the mirror for a few seconds, taking in that I had just turned to look exactly like Harry Hook. I smiled and started walking towards the front of the school to meet Y/n.
_
Y/n's POV
It was 5:30 and I was starting to get ready for my date with Harry. I finally found an outfit that I thought Harry would love, judging by the comments he was making earlier. Just as I finished putting my earring in there was a knock at the door. "Come in!" I yelled. Just then the door swung open as Evie and Mal rushed in.
"Oh my god! Why didn't you tell us?" Evie asked, sitting down next to me. "Tell you what?" I asked, giving her a confused look. "Um, your date tonight" Mal said, squealing with happiness. "Oh, I was about to come down and tell you" I said, standing up. "It doesn't matter but you look amazing!" Evie squealed, clapping her hands together. "Aww thank you" I said, giving her a little spin. "I'm so excited for you, when you get back, we want every detail" Mal screamed, jumping up and down, and Mal wasn't even the jumping up and down type.
Just at that moment Jay and Carlos burst in, with worried looks on their faces. "Are you guys ok? We heard screaming!" Carlos said, running up to us. "Everything's fine" I said, putting my hand on his shoulder. "So, what was all the screaming about?" Jay asked, with a confused look on his face. "Y/n has a date tonight!" Evie and Mal said at the same time. They both smiled and hugged me. "Really with who?" Jay asked. "With Harry" I said, smiling. "Well he better treat you right" Carlos said, turning his smile into a serious expression.
Carlos and Jay always acted like brothers to me and I knew they never wanted anyone to hurt me. "It's only one date guys, it's not like I'm his girlfriend" I said, calming them down. "That's what they all say" Mal said, winking at me. Soon we were a all screaming and jumping up and down, even the boys. "Well I better get going" I said, putting my purse over my shoulder. They all hugged me before letting me leave. "Good luck and have fun" Evie said, before I shut the door. "But not too much fun!" Jay added, as I shut the door, I rolled my eyes and began walking down the hallway, towards the front of the school.
I walked out of the large wooden doors, to see Harry leaning against the the king's statue. I decided to sneak up behind him. I crept up behind him before pouncing onto his back. "Hey you" I said as he turned his head to look at me. The first thing I noticed was that his eyes weren't the same icy blue they were when we met, they seemed a lot darker as if full of hatred and evil, but I just assumed it was the light as it was dark outside. "Are you okay?" I asked him. He cleared his throat and smiled. "Of course" he said, his voice breaking slightly.
He grabbed my hands and smiled evilly. "Harry, are you sure your okay?" I asked him, nervously. "I am now" he said through gritted teeth. I struggled and tried to remove my hands from his but his grip was to tight and I could feel my blood circulation being cut off. "Harry please let go, your hurting me" I said, tears forming in my eyes. He didn't say anything, instead he just looked into my eyes. I noticed that there was nothing left in his eyes, no love or happiness, only hatred.
Just at that moment his eyes went from a deep blue to a deep purple. "Harry?" I asked, my whole body shaking as tears rolled down my cheeks. Just then, a cloud of purple smoke surrounded him and left him showing the one and only Ursula. Fear went through my entire body as I looked at the villain in front of me. "Ursula?!" I asked, trembling. "That's right, my dear" she said, before striking me with a purple smoke cloud.
My whole body was pushed backwards and into the wall of the school. Pain fusing through my body as I felt a stabbing pain in my chest. "Y/N!" I heard Harry yell, from the school entrance. "Mom?" Uma said, stepping back a bit. At this, the sea witch immediately disappeared in a cloud of smoke. Once she was gone they all ran up to me. "Y/n!" Harry said, running up to me. I managed to stand up straight and started limping my way towards him. "Harry?" I said in a painful whisper.
My vision started to go blurry and I felt my eyes starting to shut. I felt my body go limp as my legs gave up and I collapsed into Harry's arms. "Y/n! Y/n! Please, no" I could just about here Harry say before I completely blacked out.
Harry's POV
"Y/N!" I called as I ran up to her. She stood up and started limping towards me. "Harry?" She said in a faint whisper. I immediately rushed to her as she collapsed into my arms. "Y/n! Y/n! Please no" I said as I felt tears forming in my eyes. Mal and Evie crouched down beside me as I held Y/n closer to me. I brought her closer to my head and put my face next to her ear. "I do believe in fairies" I whispered, my voice cracking as a tear dropped onto her shoulder. I shut my eyes, not bearing to see her in a state like this.
"Harry!" Mal said, standing up, straight again. I opened my eyes and stared at Y/n. Her entire body was glowing. I gasped as her eyes fluttered open. She looked around for a minute processing where she was but as soon as she saw me she smiled. "Harry?" She asked, smiling at me. "Y/n, yes Y/n!" I said, hugging her close to my body. "Thank you" she said, into my shoulder. I broke apart the hug and looked into her eyes.
She caressed my cheek with her hand and laughed with tears in her eyes. I smiled and closed the gap between are faces by kissing her. Our lips moved in sync as we smiled into the kiss.
I learned one thing today. I do believe in fairies.

New Fic!! Get it while it’s hot!
Core four, complicated polyamory. Warnings for underage drinking, referenced child abuse, general sad backstory. This chapter is mostly fun things though, I swear!
*
“You know how, like, you had those dumb games you played as kids?” Ben asks, letting his head fall on Evie’s shoulder. It’s dark out, and there’s not many people sitting in this particular corner, so they’re fine to be sitting together like this. Couple-like, even though they aren’t, not really. Couple-adjacent. Dating once removed, maybe. Evie doesn’t really like boys, even though she cares about some of them a whole lot. Spiderweb-dating is what Mal has been calling it, where they’re all in the same web but not necessarily  sharing the same strands.
It’s a pretty weird looking web when you plot it out, but it’s the best they’ve got so far. Evie and Ben might not be a couple in the strictest sense, but they’re close, and they’re definitely something that feels more intense than just ordinary friendship, so.
Evie reaches around Ben’s shoulder to pet a hand through his hair. It’s a little sticky. Gross.  “Yeah.” she says. “What about them?”
Ben leans into the touch. “What if we just all started playing games again.” he says, dreamily. “Like. We could do that!”
Evie gives him a pat, and reaches over to pry the bottle out of his hand. “I think you’ve had enough of this.” she says, unwrapping his fingers from around the neck. “Come on--”
Ben clings, but he’s laughing, and it’s not bad. He’s pink-cheeked and cute, flushed with it.
“Come on, give it up!” Evie says, shaking the bottle a bit as she slides it away and captures her prize. It wasn’t a very strong drink to begin with, because most of the current junior class are only casual drinkers and won’t bring anything really good to campus, but it’s a bit emptier than it probably should be for this point in the night.
Ben is sliding down Evie’s shoulder. “I like feeling fuzzy.” he tells Evie’s collarbone, where his face has ended up. “It’s nice.”
Oh, this sweet boy. “I know, babe,” Evie says, letting her sweet drunk boyfriend-adjacent-person flop over completely into her lap. “But you’re not going to like it if you keep going.”
Ben sighs when Evie’s hand finds its way into his hair again. “You don’t have to babysit me, you know,” he tells the leaves of the trees they’re hiding under, in their little dark corner away from the fire. “I’m not that drunk.”
Evie scratches gently at his scalp with her nails, and Ben practically melts. “You’re a little bit drunk.” she says, amused.
Ben shivers. “A little.” he admits. “Feels nice to not have everything be-- so much. It’s always just a lot, and now it’s not so much anymore. And I’m like, kinda spinny?”
Evie laughs, but doesn’t stop scratching. “Yeah?” she asks, going along with it.
Ben sighs, and tips his head so that he can rest his cheek on Evie’s leg. “It’s just nice. Different. I like it. Like being dizzy, only it’s fun.”
“I can see that.” Evie says, swirling the rest of the bottle around and around until the deep gold liquid makes a little whirlpool at the bottom. “You like this stuff, huh?”
“Doesn’t taste bad, yeah. Wine tastes so bad, Eves.”
Evie takes a swig from the bottle. “I know. You have a little baby taste in drinks, and that’s okay.”
It’s only another swallow or two before the bottle is empty, and can sit safely on the ground without risk of spilling all over. Evie likes these shoes. They’re red suede booties, and she’s spent the past few days sewing a black and red silk into the lining so that it shows when she turns the tops down. She has put too much effort into these shoes for them to be ruined by spilling a drink on them during their debut party, so it only makes sense for her to finish it off before anything untoward can happen.
Ben pouts. “I’ll leave if you’re mean to me.” he says, without moving. “I’ll find someone else to sit with who won’t be mean.”
“Who are you gonna find, babe?” Evie asks sweetly, ruffling his bangs back into place and giving one cute little flushed cheeks a pat. If she liked boys she would be eating this one right up, that’s for sure.
Ben presses his face into the touch. “Uh. Someone who isn’t mean to me?”
Evie has to laugh. “And who do you think that’s gonna be?” she asks “Mal?”
“Uh, no. You could just be nice instead?” Ben offers, like it’s a great idea for everything in the world to be nice to him just because he asks..
Well. It’s been working out pretty well so far.
“You’re too sweet.” Evie tells him. He is, and it’s almost a problem except for how it keeps working out for him. It breaks Evie’s heart sometimes to think about what could have been, if here were there or there were here and their lives had gone just a little bit differently up to this point. They might never have met, sure. That would be a fuckin’ tragedy, but her crew could also have had the chance to grow up as sweet as the boy in her lap right now, and wouldn’t that be something. “Were you telling me something about games?”she asks instead.
Ben perks up. “Oh, right!” he says, with a little excited gesture. A spread of his hands, for proper royal emphasis. He’s so physical, this sweet boy. “Yeah. Like. Remember when we could just hang out and play like, spoons all the time? And like, tag and stuff?”
Evie can’t imagine that the games of her childhood, the ones she can remember hearing about and seeing in the schoolyard from before and after her banishment, are going to be the same ones that Ben is remembering.
“We had tag, yeah.” she says gently. “I don’t know spoons.”
Ben sits up at that, like it’s so critically important that Evie understands the amazingness of this childhood game that he can’t even explain it sprawled out over her lap.
“It’s a card game,” he says seriously. “S’fun. You take sets-- like, the leader takes a card and it goes around until you get a set and then you grab a spoon and everyone grabs a spoon and there’s one man out--”
Oh. Actually.
“You mean daggers?” Evie says. “That sounds like daggers.”
“Do I?” Ben asks, alarmed. “I don’t think that would be safe.”
Evie has to laugh. “Oh, it wasn’t. We used to play this game, it sounds like the same thing, where you would pass cards around until you got a set of four, and then when you got a set you took one of the knives in the center, and the last person who didn’t get one was out.”
“Sounds the same, yeah.”
“We used to play it for keeps, too.” Evie tells him, remembering. “The first person to grab a knife for the round would get to keep it, and we would keep going down that way until we were out of players or fingers or both.”
“Fingers?”
“Oh, no, I’m teasing!” Evie says, reassuring. She’s pretty sure that Jay and Mal both still have scars from the game, but they never lost any fingers, strictly speaking. It was usually the losers they had to watch out for anyway, rather than the game itself. Not that she’s going to tell Ben that. “Nobody really lost any fingers. We had some near-misses, that’s all. Everyone has all of their fingers, look,” She wiggles them in front of his face. “All here, see?”
Ben blows a warm breath over Evie’s hand.  “I’m sorry. I didn’t think--”
He stops.
“What?” Evie asks. “You can ask, it’s okay.”
Ben shakes his head, then stops rather abruptly. “It’s not about that. I just-- didn’t think I was this buzzy.”
Ah. That makes sense, then. Their boy isn’t usually a fan of giving up control, even if it’s just over his own tongue. “You’re feeling it now, huh,” Evie says sympathetically. It’s always odd, the moment when you realize that you’re actually drunk now, and not just a bit warm in the face. “Do you want to come find Mal with me?”
Ben perks up almost immediately. “Is she still here?” he asks, excitement just bleeding off of him.
Evie laughs. “Oh, you are too cute. Yes, she’s around here somewhere. I made her promise to tell me when she’s leaving, so she’d better not have snuck out on us.”
Ben is already halfway up, kneeling with his feet half-under him as he scans the crowd of students milling around between the bonfire and the beach. “Is she by the fire, there?” he says, pointing.
Evie squints. Mal hates people, usually, but she does like fire, so-- yep, that’s a definite splash of purple, on the very edge of the fire crowd. “Yep. Good catch, babe. Come on, up you get.”
It takes a good tug to get Ben upright, but he moves easily enough, just a little stagger-step as Evie gets him steady. It could be nothing more than his leg going numb from sitting on the hard ground, except for how it’s not.
Ben laughs at himself as he catches his balance on Evie’s shoulder. “Ooh, that’s--” he puts his face in her hair for a second, resting there. “That sure is something.”
Evie can’t help but laugh. Of course she would find this boy, who even when he’s loose and stupid and drunk just wants to play games and be a child again, and have his hair petted, and oh-so-gently cuddle his partners in return.  “I know. You should see Mal when she drinks sometime, it’s funny as hell.”
Ben seems steadier now, but he’s still looking at Evie like she hung the moon in the sky. “Does she get really dizzy like this?”
Evie guides him through the crowd, ever so gently. “She gets impulsive, if you can imagine that.” she says drily. “One time when she was really in it she decided that she wanted to drop paint bombs on people in the market, and we ended up with purple paint all over the roof of the fish shop. It took a long time for that to wear off.”
“Wow. Is she--” Ben starts, and then loses the train of thought entirely when he catches sight of Mal again.

Shuri and Carlos and Jay
Sorry I´m so horribly late at this... But its finally done! yey! Hope is not too messy
For this Ship Game
Indiscreet
The party had lost its color several hours ago. With the passing of time, the same repetitive waltz played over and over again, and the quiet voices of the guests trying to sound demure with their flat conversation had ended up leaving those present in a strange state of boredom and fed up. The musicians themselves didn't seem to play as keenly, and the music dripped wearily from the instruments, floating on the empty dance floor as the waiters tried not to nod, beginning to lose their upright posture next to the tables of half-eaten snacks.
Shuri sat in the middle of the cottony environment, sitting at her table in the open air, resting her head on her hands and by inertia watching as Evie passed from table to table asking how everyone was spending it. The wind began to lightly shake the colored ribbons that decorated the tables, and Shuri was grateful that at least the breeze could lessen the heat of the strong summer sun. She blew out a tired breath, looking away, wondering for the sixth time why she had agreed to come to this party.
In her defense, the idea of a supposedly informal picnic, in Auradon Castle's new garden honoring the recently named Lady Mal and hosted by the very nice Evie, hadn't sounded so bad at first. Of course, Shuri couldn't have known that Lady Mal would be three whole hours late in arriving and that she would only be able to speak to Evie when she was rushing by to ask if they needed anything, as she looked at the sun to check the time, trying to hide her exasperation for the obvious failure of the party.
As Shuri fingered the bland sandwiches on her plate with her fork, Carlos returned with a couple of cold drinks. He sat down next to her, and Shuri straightened up to look at him, thanking him for the drink with a small smile. At least, Shuri thought sipping her drink, she'd had the good sense not to go to the party alone. If it weren't for Carlos, Shuri was sure she would have left the party in the first hour. But despite the uncomfortable boredom she felt, Shuri had allowed herself to enjoy Carlos's company with much more comfort than she had been able to until now. Having him close felt like sunshine.
"I can't take this any longer ..." Shuri exclaimed looking at the grassy ground and kicking it desperately "Is there any purpose to this? She is not even here "
"Yeah, sorry about that," Carlos said with a pained smile "I should have told you that the plan changes are Mal's trademark"
Shuri answered with a long, loud sigh, looking around and wondering if everyone would have the same desire to leave as she did.
Carlos gulped, daring to look at Shuri and unconsciously starting to form a smile. He could feel bubbles popping inside him. He liked Shuri in a way he could never have expected. She seemed to him to be the coolest person he knew, she was funny, fresh, sincere, and wonderfully intelligent. Shuri's talents had amazed him since he'd first seen her come as a special guest to demonstrate in robotics class, and he hadn't been able to take his eyes off her since. He admired every part of her, even though he had no idea how to show it.
Carlos had never so wished he could put his shyness aside. Just seeing her eyes made him nervous, she had a beautiful look. Carlos shook his head, and looked away, biting his lip anxiously, wondering what to say.
"Well ... you know ... if you want ..." began Carlos awkwardly trying to sound calm "I brought my headphones ... I'm not the biggest fan of parties either ... we can listen to something if you want ...
Shuri watched him for an instant. The proposal had surprised him, but an excited gleam appeared in her eyes. For the first time, she seemed slightly nervous.
"Of course, why not?" she replied with a small smile. Carlos also smiled.
He took them out of his coat pocket and handed one to Shuri to share. The afternoon heat was raging, and the wind blew, cooling their faces. Carlos chose a simple song, soft tune, and few instruments, but wonderfully happy. Shuri was surprised by how much the music managed to light up the atmosphere. She realized that she was closer to Carlos now than she had been all morning, their arms brushing, but she felt much more comfortable than she had expected.
Carlos's lips trembled slightly, but he seemed delighted to be by her side. Shuri smiled, feeling the music dance in her chest. She, too, was beginning to feel enchanted. She had always been fancied by Carlos, he was simple and brilliant. They understood each other with surprising ease, despite their differences in character. It had taken Shuri a while to realize Carlos' particular interest in her, his small approaches and spontaneous details, and the idea had amused her immensely. Shuri herself had been surprised at how much she had come to like him. He was a kind of sweet that she had never known.
"Thank you for joining me today" Shuri thanked him, believing it prudent that this time, she was the one to initiate the approach "You are much better at these things than I am."
Carlos lowered his head and smiled slightly. Was he ashamed? Shuri thought with a certain nervousness. That had been a compliment, she had paid him a compliment, hadn't she?
"It is my pleasure, I like to believe that in another life I would have been a fantastic princess" replied Carlos, a little more daring, bringing his face closer and looking into her eyes. Shuri laughed, more relaxed.
"I believe it too" she replied in a good mood.
"Or perhaps I am in this life as well, who knows?"
"Yeah, maybe, you certainly have the character"
"Oh, I do?"
“Absolutely, kind, crowd-pleasing, discrete. But you do need to be more arrogant, like a real royal "
"You are not arrogant, and you are a real royal"
"You underestimate me, white head"
"Really?"
"Sure, I'm a genius, arrogance is my life juice"
"Well, I think you are sweeter than you give yourself credit for" replied Carlos with a mischievous smile.
"Oh, shut up! I'm not sweet! " Shuri responded offended, giving him a small blow on the shoulder, holding back the laugh.
"What? You are sweet ”
Suri shook her head, smiling.
"I knew you were a boot licker"
Carlos responded with a laugh, raising his hands, in a certain attitude of Oh, you caught me there. Shuri leaned back in her seat, looking pleased with her friend. For a moment, she had forgotten how boring the party was, and even the music that was playing in her ear. The afternoon was beginning, and the rest of the guests seemed to have begun to lose their patience, fed up with the heat and monotony. But now Shuri was feeling a bit more optimistic. Maybe going there today had not been a total waste.
Shuri approached, a little more confident, and discreetly rested her head on Carlos's shoulder. He didn't move. H could hear her breathing. Shuri allowed herself to think that Carlos could be truly charming. No, not entirely a waste. There was a certain charm in that summer noon, it awakened the most subtle senses.
Just as they began to relax between the music and the soft breathing, their calm was suddenly interrupted. Suddenly, Shuri felt the tickle of a breath on the back of her neck.
"Hey!"
She looked back in surprise, and Jay's confident smile greeted her.
Unlike them, decked out in elegant clothes and neat demeanor, Jay was wearing one of his old sleeveless Saturday shirts and ripped jeans. His hair was messy, his face was glowing. Shuri guessed that he had just showered after Journey practice, and run all the way there.
"Hi princess" he greeted with his charming half-smile. Shuri answered him in the same way.
"Jay you bastard" she replied "You scared me! What are you doing here? It's a private party. You do know what that means, right? "
"Of course. It means entering is twice as fun. "
"Let's see if you keep smiling when one of the princesses sees you and sends the guards on you"
"Oh please, I thought you knew me," Jay said with an arrogant smile, sliding to sit in the chair next to her "Princesses love me"
Shuri rolled her eyes, and leaned back in her seat, suppressing a smile. Jay winked at Carlos in greeting and blew Shuri an imaginary kiss. She laughed, she knew what Jay had come for. He liked to cause trouble, he was always lighting sparks. And lately, he seemed to have gotten into the habit of showing up in the same places as her, with his seductive demeanor, bad jokes, and sassy approaches. Ultimately, Jay seemed interested in her. But Jay seemed to be interested in everyone, and unlike Carlos, he wasn't quiet about it.
"So… what have you been doing this beautiful morning?" Jay asked, popping one of the sandwiches on the table. “Did Mal already bored you to death with her speech? I heard her rehearsing last night… A nightmare”
Jay shook himself as if the idea had given him chills. Carlos gave a little laugh.
"I wish" replied Carlos "She didn't even come"
"Really?"
"Really" Shuri affirmed with a sigh.
"Well, too bad" Jay replied getting up from the chair "What do you say, are we leaving here?"
"We can't go big brain," said Shuri "We accept the invitation, now we have to wait for her to arrive"
"Oh come on Shuri ..." said Jay taking her hand and pressing his face to Shuri's shoulder "We're going to die of boredom here"
"Enough," Shuri said, pushing him away laughing, trying not to blush "I remind you that you don't have to stay, you weren't even invited"
"Well it should have been, don't you think?" Jay replied, kneeling between their chairs so that he could put his arms around both of them. "This party got so much better with me in it."
"Don't get your hopes up, we were fine without you, right Carlos?" Shuri exclaimed jokingly. Carlos smiled slightly, looking at Jay with a new twinkle in his eyes.
"I mean ... A little more fun would do us good" he replied with a shrug. Jay grinned from ear to ear.
"See? That's my man ”said Jay excitedly, leaning over Carlos to slap an enthusiastic kiss on his cheek. Carlos pulled away feeling his face heat up and gave a nervous laugh. "Come on Shuri ... don't tell me you don't want a more exciting Saturday"
Shuri refused to answer, crossing her arms, and raising an eyebrow. Jay smiled. After a heavy morning of training, Shuri felt like a delicious bucket of water. Jay liked the cool way Shuri managed to capture his humor, that she could joke with him in the same way. They managed to understand each other extraordinarily well. Somehow they were very similar, Jay could recognize it, but his own strength did not compare to the strength that emanated from everything Shuri did, it was a worthy, almost supernatural strength. But beautifully human.
Despite his magnificent intelligence, Shuri never made him feel like a fool. Jay knew how easy it would be for her to do it, but instead, she chose to be his friend. She chose to be simple, strangely, normal. Funny, exciting, awkward at moments, a little weird... like him. Although in reality, nothing about Shuri was ordinary.
Anxious, Jay rested his head on the table and ran his gaze between Shuri and Carlos. They looked gorgeous in their white party outfits, like two angels, getting bored in the sun from an emotionless party. The thought made him laugh. Maybe, he could be their devil.
Carlos looked to the sides, starting to blush to see that some guests were beginning to notice the disheveled athlete half lying on his table. Jay thought his nervousness was adorable. He could understand it, Shuri had that effect on people, you just felt the need to like her.
Seeing Shuri continue to be reluctant, Jay, with deft hands, took with his fingertips the sandwich that was resting on her plate.
"What the hell do you think you are doing?" Shuri asked "That's mine"
"Oh is it? Sorry princess ”Jay replied. And he put the sandwich in his mouth, holding it between his teeth "Why don't you come and have it?"
She shook her head, pursing her lips to keep from laughing.
"Don't test me, thief" she said, imitating the hissing way he called her princess "You could get burned if you play with fire"
Jay chewed on the sandwich, enduring Shuri's cosmic dark eyes, and smiled.
"I think I'd like it" replied Jay "You know would. I like... you"
Shuri knew it.
"And where would you take us?" she inquired approaching him.
"Where the wind takes us, somewhere we can be alone. All three,” Jay replied with a smile as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
Shuri lowered her head thoughtfully, licking her lips. SH had imagined it, but I heard it was something different. Bum Bum Bum.
“Please Shuri, I had the most horrible morning, and you two had it too. I think we could use a little fire, ” Jay said with a shrug, a smile that invited them to fun.
Shuri thought for a moment. Bum Bum Bum. Her heart sang in her chest. What was that emotion running inside her? The brilliant thought of an unexpected adventure. She turned to see Carlos for a moment, and he too seemed excited about the idea. And the strangest of all, those two boys were an adventure. On a morning so flat, so white, it was the last thing she would have expected, but her heart kept beating.
The wind ruffled her clothes, made her skin crawl. Her friends looked radiant in the sun. The three seemed to share that strange feeling of boredom and fun at that failed party. Children playing politics, a forgotten and old-fashioned high society. Three extraordinary teenagers. They didn't really felt that way. How absurd that life they led sometimes seemed. The most normal thing seemed to be what happened between them. That first-time tender emotion, as mature as they could feel it. Wasn't that love? The most extraordinarily ordinary thing.
Shuri pursed her lips. She had done much more dangerous things in the past, she had fought, she had stood up in the name of her nation. Why did the idea of sneaking out from a party with two boys make her feel so adrenaline-fueled? She did not know it. But she liked it. A leap of courage, a little fire.
"Let's do it"
Jay laughed with victory, and ecstatic, he put his face close to hers. Shuri did not retreat, she kept her smile. So he kissed her, as he had wanted to do for so long. It was smooth and fleeting, barely lasting an instant. Shuri covered her mouth, laughing. She didn't even think about people seeing them.
Jay ran into the labyrinth of gardens, Carlos and Shuri followed him laughing, leaving behind their possessions, and the looks of the confused people watching them abandon the table. Carlos, on a happy impulse, offered his hand to Shuri. She hesitated for a second and took it, a new lightness in her chest, Carlos´s grip was firm and loving. And the two of them ran after Jay holding hands, engulfed in dreamy joy. Music of their own that resounded in their hearts. Losing themselves in the maze of roses and dahlias, jostling each other, splashing in the lily ponds, and rolling in the fields of freshly cut grass.
Daisies and herbs filled their hair, mud stained their clothes, drowned in the scent of flowers and the skin of others. They laughed until they were out of breath and were intoxicated by the embrace of each other, hiding their faces in other clothes and in the bushes of the garden. The sun was shining strong and high. Sweet, sweet summer love.

Making it Count
To celebrate their final Christmas before graduating from Auradon Prep, the Rotten Four take an impromptu trip to a cabin on the edges of a snow-covered forest. But will they be able to stop fighting long enough to enjoy each other's company, or are things coming to an end for the VKs?
-Written as a Secret Santa gift for @bunny-lou. Bunny-Lou, it’s been a pleasure being your Secret Santa for a second year in a row. I’ve really enjoyed tapping back into the bond shared by the VKs, and I hope you’ll enjoy the results. I apologize this is being posted a couple days past Christmas; my computer crashed two days before Christmas, and I’ve been playing catch-up since. I’m so glad to read that you had an amazing holiday, and I hope this week continues to be amazing for you. Happy holidays, my dear! And to @descendantsgiftexchange, thank you for all the work you do in putting this together every year.
~*~
Mal winds the borrowed van through a landscape of frost, squinting to see through tufts of falling snow. Muted moonlight shines through the windshield, guiding her and the Rotten Four on this, the journey to their final prep school Christmas.
They sit in silence.
Jay leans against the rear passenger window, furrowing his forehead in silent thought.
Carlos, seated on the other side, toys with the remnants of a candy wrapper and stares into nothingness.
Evie, on Mal’s right, sends glances skittering throughout the car. Toward the boys. Toward the falling snow. Toward Mal, who has not looked at her since they slid into the warmth of the van two hours earlier.
Or since the fight they’d shared just before that.
Mal bunches her fingers around the steering wheel, trying to push the words, the looks, the feelings of that fight from her mind. Trying and failing miserably. She squeezes the wheel until her knuckles turn white, while the image of Evie’s biting, betrayed glare pushes through her mind.
What do you mean you aren’t going to college? Evie’s words had pinched together like the punches of a sewing machine. We promised we’d go together.
Mal had hidden her gaze behind a fall of her hair. Anything to avoid that burning look in Evie’s eyes. College just isn’t for me. The lie tasted spoiled and burnt, like scorched milk meant to be sweet. She swallowed it down and turned her back. Maybe it’s time we were apart, Evie.
Apart? Evie curled her fingers around Mal’s arm. You’ve been pushing me away all year, and now you’re ready to run?
Evie’s voice broke on the final word, and a fissure went through Mal’s heart.
She opened her mouth to answer, but the truth died on her tongue. The boys will be here soon. She pulled her arm away. Get ready. I’ll warm up the van.
Now, as Mal turns the van around another curve leading to their rented cabin, the truth is bitter and hollow upon her tongue. She ignores Evie’s penetrating stare, the one strong enough to slip beneath her skin, and keeps her gaze focused on the tufts of snow illuminating this, one of the darkest nights of the year.
~*~
They round another turn taking them to the cabin, and Carlos scrunches the candy wrapper in his fist.
Jay still won’t look at him. Or talk to him. Or do anything but grunt, like he did when Carlos slid into the bucket seat beside him in the van.
Carlos tosses him a glance now. “Be good to get inside.”
Jay shrugs and offers a grunt.
Carlos sighs. “We’ll have to get a fire going. You know, to keep the place warm. Ben says the heat won’t kick on until tomorrow.”
“Whatever.” Jay runs his fingers along his tourney stick.
That stupid tourney stick. Carlos stuffs the candy wrapper into his jacket pocket along with his fist. That thing gets more attention than I do nowadays.
Jay lifts the stick in the space between seats and studies its tip, chipped from the previous year’s tourney championship. “Should probably get this thing fixed.”
Six words. More than he’s spoken to me in days. Carlos leans closer. “You’ll need it in good shape for when you join the kingdom’s tourney league after graduation.”
Jay frowns at the stick. “Nah. League’ll give me a new one.”
“Oh.”
Jay drops the stick onto the floor, then turns his head to stare outside at the silhouettes of mountains lining the road.
Carlos searches for something, anything to say, to keep this conversation going. Words form on his lips, then fizzle and fade. What do you say to a guy who’s decided you’re not good enough for him? He slinks into his seat. I’ve already said everything I can, and all he does is grunt.
He turns his head to stare outside his own window at the lines of towering fir trees, a direct contrast to Jay’s mountain ranges.
~*~
Jay pushes from his seat the moment Mal parks at the edges of Sherwood Forest, where the cabin is a dark shape within a grove of pine trees. He stumbles and his toes collide with his tourney stick, kicking it half-beneath the seat in front. Grumbling, he bends to retrieve it.
“Here.” Carlos slides to his knees and reaches for the stick.
Their fingers touch. Touch and linger.
A warmth like a brush fire flickers beneath Jay’s fingertips.
Carlos glances up, right into his eyes, and their gazes connect.
Jay snatches his hand away, flashing on the faces of his soon-to-be tourney teammates, who most definitely do not feel brush fires when they touch other guys.
Breaking eye contact with Carlos, he tugs his hand through his hair. “Leave it, man. Not like I’m gonna be playing tourney in the snow.”
“Are you –?”
Carlos doesn’t have time to ask whatever question he’s gonna ask because Jay steps over him and hops out of the van.
The girls are outside, staring in that annoying way they do, with questions and accusations written in their eyes.
Those two see everything. Jay walks past them. “Do me a favor and bring my bag inside,” he calls over his shoulder. “I’m going looking for firewood.”
“Wow, Jay.” Mal’s voice is hexed with the kind of wicked vindictiveness she’d possessed back on the Isle. “Did you actually use up breath talking to us?”
Jay bunches his shoulders around his ears. “Don’t get used to it.”
He marches into the woods, leaving bootprints in the snow. His final words hang heavy in the frigid air, reminding him why they decided this trip was a good idea. Bonding and all that.
Trips like these are dangerous. They lead to unwanted touches and unasked-for stares. Jay snatches a thick branch from the ground, then another. Next year, we go our separate ways. We start our own lives. And no way am I agreeing to any more impromptu trips like this one.
For some reason, the thought leaves a hollow space in his chest.
~*~
Evie shivers awake in the early morning, tangled in a set of the cabin’s cotton sheets. The room is freezing. So cold, it makes her skin ache. She rolls over onto her side, hugging her knees to her chest, and stares through the window into the Christmas Eve morning.
The fir trees are still, the moon muted behind the fall of snow. Holly branches scratch the windowpane, their crimson berries the only splash of color in this winter world.
Evie’s mind ticks back to the Isle. A holly bush grew there, too. I’ll always remember.
Remember the year she cut its branches and placed them around the Rotten Four’s Clubhouse. For festive cheer, she’d said when Mal had arched a pointed eyebrow.
In the back-then, Mal had rolled her eyes and muttered something beneath her breath. But she’d stared at Evie’s decorations for longer than a heartbeat, her mouth scrunched up in that way it’s always scrunched when her mind and heart are full of secrets she doesn’t want to share.
The next day, more holly had been added, filling in the spaces left by Evie’s holly. Adding an artistic flair to Evie’s designer touch.
When Evie asked her about it, Mal’s cheeks turned pink. If we’re going to decorate for Christmas, we might as well make it count, she said, staring at her boots.
Jay and Carlos stared at the holly, too. The day after that, a Christmas tree appeared in the Clubhouse. Like you said, Jay said, hammering the tree into a cross of wooden planks while Carlos held it steady, might as well make it count.
Evie’s heart had felt lighter than Gossamer fabric. It was the first time they’d all come together after their first adventures on the Isle. The first time they’d spent Christmas together, too, gathered around the tree, telling stories and making jokes.
Nothing like how we are this year. In the here-and-now, Evie rolls over onto her back and stares at the ceiling. Nothing like how things will ever be again.
After they’d arrived at the cabin and Jay had made the fire, they’d spent about twenty minutes together before they’d all escaped to different rooms. Why don’t we sleep out here by the fire? she’d asked, but the boys had made excuses and Mal had given her an imperceptible dragon-eyed stare before each of three doors had shut and the locks had clicked.
Evie sighs. Her heart is a leaden weight, pressing her down into the mattress. Our last Christmas before we all go our separate ways, and they want to treat it like it’s nothing more than a burden.
She tosses her gaze back to the holly and her mind back to memories of that first Christmas on the Isle. Resolve bubbles like warm water beneath her skin. I won’t let them.
She kicks her blankets off and springs from the bed.
She dresses in her warmest clothes – a full-length blue jacket, knee-high blue boots and wooly blue mittens – and hushes from the room, clicking the door closed behind her.
In the living room, the dying fire glows with its final orange embers. She slides a poker from the stand beside the fireplace and pokes at the embers, making them flicker and flare. Selecting a few thick branches, she places them into the fledgling flames. The orange tongues lick at the wood, and the fire blazes back to life.
She slides off her mittens and raises her hands to the fire, brushing them together above the flames. Warmth washes across her skin, soothing her aches. Much better than the chill that’s pervaded this place since last night.
With a sigh, she casts a glance toward Mal’s closed door. Her mind flickers back to the dragon-eyed stare Mal had offered just before she’d closed her door, and to the biting green glare she’d given when she’d confessed that she hadn’t applied to college.
The warmth washing across Evie’s skin turns cold, making her shiver.
Mal hasn’t given her looks like that since they lived on the Isle, when Evie was her nuisance and Mal was almost a stranger. Not Evie’s best friend. Not the girl Evie had woken up to every day for two years.
How am I supposed to wake up knowing she isn’t there? She turns her gaze from Mal’s door and stares into the flames. Doesn’t she realize how important she is?
An ache forms deep inside, in a place the warmth can’t reach. Evie turns her back on the fire with its broken promises of heat and gazes around at the cabin.
There are no decorations here. Nothing to mark the fact that today is Christmas Eve, or that the Rotten Four are spending the holiday together.
At least I can do something about that. Evie shoves her hands back into her mittens. She grabs a few tools from some drawers and a closet, and then she disappears into the early December morning, her boots crunching pathways through the snow.
Three hours later, when her friends finally crack open their doors, shivering and rubbing at their eyes, the cabin is transformed. A Christmas tree perches in the middle of the living room, its emerald pine needles a warm contrast to the oranges and reds of the fire. Holly branches skirt along the mantle and the walls. A wreath of holly and berries rests upon the door. And several crimson candles flicker along the shelves.
Evie gazes at each of her friends: at Carlos, whose mouth hangs open, his gaze flicking to each of the decorations; at Jay, who takes a stumbling step into the room, a low whistle sounding from his throat; and at Mal, who gazes back not with a biting glare, but with a glance of warmth edged with something that makes Evie’s heart sprint.
The chill she’d felt deep inside flickers into a promise of heat. “Making it count,” she whispers, holding out her hands.
Mal winks. “Nice work.”
~*~
Things change. Become more bearable.
The girls sit together on the couch, stringing holly berries and popcorn onto strands to hang around the tree. And Carlos joins Jay in the kitchen on a mission to bake their weight in sugar cookies.
Breathing in the scent of fresh pine and cinnamon, Carlos pushes a wooden spoon through the mixture that will become dough.
Jay hovers over his shoulder, his warmth a caress against Carlos’ back. “Tasty,” he drawls, his voice in Carlos’ ear.
Carlos knocks back a breath. Does he realize what he’s doing? “Should be,” he says, shifting a little to put some distance between them. Last thing we need is another fight.
A mischievous chuckle sounds from Jay’s throat. He slides his hand into the bowl and pulls up a finger of dough mixture.
Carlos holds up his hands. “Come on, man. That’s for the oven, not –”
Jay lunges and streaks the mixture along Carlos’ jaw. “Whatcha gonna do about it, buddy?”
Carlos tosses down his wooden spoon. “Fight back,” he growls and reaches for the bowl.
Jay holds it up high. “Too bad you never grew those extra inches,” he says, patting Carlos’ head.
A thrill of electricity bunches in Carlos’ stomach. It’s just like always. Jay hassling me. Me hassling back. He reaches up and traps Jay’s hand before Jay can give his head any more pats.
With Jay’s hand cupped beneath his own, a flare of warmth radiates between their skin.
Jay stops.
Stops moving.
Stops laughing.
Stops breathing.
“Jay…” Carlos murmurs.
Jay blinks and snatches his hand away. “Come on,” he says, slamming the bowl onto the counter. “Let’s finish mixing this so we can eat.“
Just like that, the chill returns. Jay won’t look at him. Won’t talk to him. And when Carlos slides up beside him to finish stirring the dough, Jay shifts away.
“Fine, Jay.” Carlos kicks out at a cabinet, making a hollow wooden sound. “Whatever you want.”
On the couch in front of the fire, Evie is a warmth curled into Mal’s side. They sit together, stringing holly berries and popcorn to decorate the tree. Mal’s finger stings from three separate pricks of the needle, but her pain is a dull whisper quieted by Evie’s touch.
Mal slides a berry onto her thread. “I still can’t believe you did all this. How long did it take?”
“A few hours.” Evie pokes her needle through a piece of popcorn. “It was worth it, though.”
“Oh?”
“Mmm.” The corners of her lips curl into the beginnings of a smile. “I’d wake up even earlier just to see that look in your eyes, M.”
The warmth of the fire washes over Mal’s face. “What look?”
Evie spells her with a glance from the corner of her eyes, which have turned molten in the firelight. “The one you’re giving me right now. The one that’s happy and soul-deep and just for me.”
They gaze at each other for several scattered beats of Mal’s heart as the crackling fire does havoc on Mal’s body heat.
Mal slips from her jacket, leaving it on the couch, and drops her gaze to her strand of popcorn-and-holly-berries. “I didn’t know I had such a look,” is the lie that slides from her tongue before she can replace it with something truthful.
Of course she knows. She knows her looks, and she knows that she has exactly three of them for Evie.
The first, she offers when they’re watching TV or sharing Auradon gossip. The look of friendship.
The second, she punished her with last night when she wouldn’t let the college thing go. The look of dragon fire.
The third, she offers in the crimson firelight when Evie’s nestled in a ball by her side and heat that can’t just be firelight is warming Mal from head-to-toe. The look of all-things-dangerous.
Evie’s gaze is slip-beneath-Mal’s-skin penetrating.
In the background, there is a clatter as the boys’ conversation becomes louder. “It was just a touch, Jay,” Carlos says, his voice edged.
“Keep it to yourself, man.” Jay slams open the oven.
But all Mal knows is the sensation of Evie’s stare. A sensation that sprinkles goose bumps along her skin. It’s so intense that Mal looks away and slides another berry onto her needle.
The needle slips. The tip pokes into Mal’s skin. “Ouch.”
Evie drops her strand of popcorn-and-berries onto her lap and slides her hand around Mal’s, kneading Mal’s injury with the tips of her fingers. “What am I going to do without you?” she whispers, so low her words might be lost to the other sounds of the day. “When I go to college and you don’t?”
Great. The college thing. Again. She tugs her hand from Evie’s and stabs the needle back into the berry. “Drop it, Evie.”
“Why?” Evie covers Mal’s needle with her hand. “We should really talk about it. You broke your prom –”
Mal tugs her hand away. “I said ‘drop it,’ Evie.”
A bang echoes from the kitchen. “Dammit, Carlos. You just ruined the dough.”
“You distracted me. I wouldn’t have dropped it if you hadn’t kept snatching your hand away every time I tried to touch the bowl.”
The argument is lost on Evie, who’s still staring at Mal. “Fine.” Her nostrils flare. “We won’t talk about it.” She jumps to her feet. “Just tell me one thing, Mal. Why did you lie to me about college?”
“That’s still talking about it, Evie!” A flare of dragon fire burns through Mal’s blood, and she jumps to her feet, too. Her strand of popcorn-and-berries falls to the floor. “And I didn’t lie!”
Evie throws out her arms. “Obviously, you did, or you’d be joining me in September.”
A ball of dough flies into the living room, smacking the branches of the Christmas tree. “What the hell are you doing, Jay?” Carlos cries.
Another bit of dough slams into the wall beside the fireplace, sliding onto a thatch of holly. “If we can’t eat it, you might as well wear it.”
Mal and Evie whip toward the sound.
The boys tumble into the living room, Carlos tugging at the bowl in Jay’s hands. The dough inside the bowl swishes this way and that. Carlos slams into the couch, and the bowl flies out of Jay’s hands. The dough soars up toward the ceiling, landing with a smack on the ground by Mal’s feet.
Mal stares at the dough. “So this is Christmas.” She jerks her gaze from the dough to the boys to the girl-with-the-power-to-make-her-blood-boil-and-her-heart-sprint. “Our very last together as the Rotten Four, and we’re throwing dough at each other and accusing each other of lies.”
Carlos blushes and stares at his feet.
Jay stares outside at the shivering pines, a muscle ticking in his jaw.
Evie stares at each of her decorations, her mouth puckered into a scowl.
Mal stomps her foot, smashing the dough beneath her boot. “What is going on, you guys?”
Carlos grits his teeth and raises his gaze to meet Mal’s. “For months, Jay’s been stealing touches with me. Until three weeks ago, when he signed onto the kingdom’s tourney league. Now, he won’t even look at me.”
Jay pushes his fists into his pockets, but his gaze remains glued to the trees.
Evie glares at a bunch of holly, where a glob of dough hangs heavy on the leaves. “You know why I’m upset, M. We were supposed to go through college together, and you didn’t even apply.”
Mal swipes the dough from the floor. “Here’s what I know,” she says, balling it in her fists. “Jay, you’ve been walking around with a swagger since you got accepted to the league.”
Jay whips his gaze to Mal, opening his mouth to argue.
Mal holds up her hand. “Don’t. You know it’s true. You’ve barely spoken a word to me and Evie since.”
Jay twists his mouth into a jagged line, and a hint of pink colors his face.
Mal tosses the dough back into the bowl, which spins in a circle on the ground. She stares at its movement. “Evie, I didn’t lie,” she whispers. “I did apply. I just didn’t get in.” The truth burns her throat, a searing brand of shame. “I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to major in, so I left it blank. Colleges like girls who know what they want.”
She cannot look at Evie.
Not even when Evie moves toward her, a soft “M…” drifting like a caress from her lips.
Mal shakes her head. “That’s what I know,” she says. “And honestly, I have no idea how to fix any of this. It’s our last Christmas together, and we’ve fallen apart.” She turns her gaze to the front door, with its promise of ushering in a solitary winter world. “And I really can’t be in this room with any of you right now.”
She steps away from her friends. She steps away from the living room and out the front door. She away steps from the warmth of the fire, leaving it behind for the cold of the winter woods.
The chill blankets her skin and leaves her numb.
~*~
Emotions war through Jay’s blood. He pushes his fisted knuckles into the seams of his jacket and steps to the window.
Mal’s standing outside at the bottom of a snowy hill, staring up at the steel-grey sky. Not even wearing a coat. A bite of guilt gnaws at his gut.
Carlos and Evie are behind him, pinning with the weight of their stares.
They have no idea what to say to me. A sigh drifts up from somewhere deep inside of him. Moment of truth. “You guys ever been afraid?”
Silence stretches between them. He can’t see their faces, but he knows his friends are giving each other looks, trying to figure out how to answer.
He’s never once admitted to being afraid, not even when they fought other gangs on the Isle. The truth hangs heavy in the air.
“Sure,” Evie says, her voice gentle with a hint of warmth. “I’m afraid now, with each of us going in different directions.”
“Exactly.” Jay turns from the window and points at her. “Before now, we knew what the future held. Classes at Auradon. Meals in the kitchens.”
“Games and comfort in our rooms.” Carlos lifts a corner of his lips, offering a half-smile.
The gesture strikes a match of heat in Jay’s chest. “Exactly,” he repeats, his voice softer now. “Everything planned out.”
Evie steps to the window. “Things can’t be that way forever, though.” She raises her hand to the windowpane, cupping the glass with her palm. “We grow up. Do our own thing. Life moves on. So do we.”
Carlos’ half-smile falls, and something hollow echoes through Jay’s heart. Without thought, he reaches for Carlos’ hand.
Carlos jerks his gaze toward Jay, arching a brow.
This time, Jay doesn’t look away. “I’ve been a jerk,” he says. “Too worried about the unknown to focus on the here-and-now.” He tucks their fingers together, the beginnings of wildfire kindled in their touch. “I’m sorry, man.”
Carlos’ smile springs back to life, full and beaming. “’Bout time you admitted it.” He knocks his shoulder against Jay’s arm.
Jay chuckles, then turns his gaze to Evie. “I’m sorry, E. To you and Mal. You’re my friends. I need you in my life.”
Evie spins from the window. “That’s a good thing. Because you’re stuck with us.”
“Swear it?”
Evie nods. “On everything wicked and rotten.”
Jay grins. “Good.” He glances back out at the December forest, where Mal has perched herself on top of a snow-crusted rock, a sketch pad open on her lap. “Someone’s gotta go talk to her.”
“I will,” Evie says.
Jay grabs Mal’s coat off the couch and hands it to Evie. “Tell her I’m sorry.”
“Of course.” Evie takes the coat and steps out of the cabin into the snow.
With a gleam in his eye, Carlos brushes Jay’s jaw with a kiss. “Nicely done,” he whispers.
His words are punctuated by a clinking sound coming from the vents, followed by a blast of heat. Jay blames it entirely for the flame warming his cheeks.
He ducks his head as a goofy grin splits his face. “Whatever.”
~*~
The snow swirls down in drifts of white, nipping at Evie’s cheeks and nose. Her breath comes out in puffs of frost. She bows her head against the cold and warms her hands beneath Mal’s leather jacket, crunching a path toward the hill behind the cabin.
Mal comes into sight, her purple hair a splash of color among so much white.
She sits on a rock beneath a towering pine tree, its branches white with snow. Her hand is a flurry of motion along her sketchpad, her pencil weightless in her fingertips. Her fingers glide upon the page, drawing lines and angles and shapes that match her surroundings.
Her shoulders are hunched, curved in to protect her from the cold. But her lips are tilted upward, her features calm and peaceful.
A hum of warmth radiates through Evie’s chest. Mal-the-Artist has emerged in the forest, a snow nymph with a pencil-in-hand, bringing the winter woods to life in a sketch. How could I have ever thought she’d be happy doing anything but this?
Even in the back-then, when Mal hung more holly around the Clubhouse, it was because she wanted to add to the decorative flair. She wanted to make it count with her own artistic touch.
Evie takes a step toward her best friend, and the snow crunches beneath her boot.
Mal glances up. Her smile teeters. “Hey.”
“Please don’t stop.” Evie’s words push together in a rush. “I like watching you draw.”
Mal’s gaze drifts to her sketch, where a few snowflakes have fallen. She brushes them away with a caress of her hand. “No, it’s okay,” she says, running her fingers along a penciled pine tree. “You were right before. We really should talk.”
“Okay.” Evie crunches a path to Mal. “I have your jacket.” Taking a seat on the frigid rock, which makes her legs ache, she slides Mal’s jacket over Mal’s shoulders. “It’s freezing out here, M. What were you thinking?”
Mal clings to the halves of her coat, tightening it around her body, as Evie’s words fill the space in the silence that follows. Words that mean so many things.
What were you thinking, sitting out here in the cold?
What were you thinking, not telling me you weren’t accepted to college?
What were you thinking, pushing me away when you could have told me the truth?
Evie slides her hand over Mal’s, warming Mal’s frigid fingers beneath her palm. “Did you really think you couldn’t tell me the truth? That I would have liked you any less?”
Mal cringes and closes her eyes. “You were so excited, E. I didn’t want to disappoint you.”
An ache pierces Evie’s heart. She slides her free hand to Mal’s cheek, smoothing her thumb along the crease where Mal’s eyes close. “You could never disappoint me. You’re M and I’m E, and that’s the way it will always be.”
Mal trembles on a breath. “Even if I never go to college?”
Evie’s thumb stills. “Look at me, M.”
Mal blinks her eyes opened, gifting Evie with the sight of a green more vibrant than the forest’s pine trees. “I tried, Evie. I really did. But…”
Evie nods at Mal’s sketchbook. “But you never really wanted college, did you? Or school. You want to spend your life creating art.”
Mal’s gaze drops to her sketchbook. The splendor of the winter forest gazes back, scripted with the strokes of a pencil. “I wanted this,” she whispers, smoothing the sketch beneath her hand. “And,” she says, gazing back up at Evie, “I wanted you.”
Their gazes meet for one frosted breath, then two, as a thrill of electricity sings through Evie’s blood.
She leans forward and touches her lips to Mal’s. “You’ve got me,” she murmurs into the kiss.
A sound half-dragon, half-fae pushes from Mal’s throat, and she cups the back of Evie’s head with her hand, deepening the kiss.
Several sprints of her heart later, Evie leans her forehead against Mal’s. “We’ll figure things out. Together.”
“Promise?”
Evie nods, tapping another kiss onto Mal’s lips. “I do.”
Mal wraps her arms around Evie, hugging her long enough to erase the chill of winter.
Lost in Mal’s touch, Evie almost doesn’t hear the crunch of snow. But it becomes louder, and someone clears their throat.
Mal and Evie glance up from their rock to discover the boys standing there, holding the ropes to two sleds apiece, four altogether.
“It’s Christmas,” Carlos says, gesturing back at the sleds.
Jay tilts his chin toward the hill. “And since there’s a hill, we thought maybe we could celebrate VK style.”
“VK style, huh?” Mal rises from the rock, sliding her sketch pad and pencil into the back pocket of her pants. “Does this mean you’re done being a jerk, Jay?”
Evie bounces to her feet. “I’m supposed to tell you that he’s sorry.”
Mal tilts her head, daring Jay with a flash of her eyes. “Are you?”
“Definitely.” Jay nods. “I was afraid.”
“You?” Mal arches an eyebrow. “Afraid?”
“Yup.” Jay puffs out his chest, as if admitting this truth has made him prouder, somehow. “And you know what? I really don’t have to be. I’ve got you guys.”
Mal’s features soften, the artist within transforming the rough angles of her expression into softer lines. “Of course you do. We’ve got each other.”
“Yeah, we do.” Carlos holds out his free hand, making a fist. “To staying together.”
Evie joins her fist with Carlos. “To staying friends.”
Jay adds his fist. “To forever and all that counts.”
Mal studies their hands, narrowing her eyes as if thinking about it.
“C’mon, M.” Evie bumps Mal’s hip with her own. “VKs forever?”
Mal rolls her eyes. “You guys drive me crazy.” She moves her hand into the circle. “But okay. Friends again. Friends forever. You know, and all that counts.” Her lips twist into a smile. “Because we’re rotten…”
“…to the core,” the trio finishes.
The Rotten Four bump fists, sealing forever with a chorus of cheers.
~*~
The stars fan out across the sky, one of them shining brighter than all the rest, as Mal takes to the top of the hill with her friends. Together, they slide into their sleds. Mal slides her hand into Evie’s. Carlos slides his hand into Jay’s. They exchange gazes, and then they release a collective whoop and slide down the hill in the Christmas snow.
“VKs forever!” Jay shouts.
“Friends forever!” Carlos echoes.
“To making it count!” Evie cries.
A feeling of weightlessness soars through Mal’s stomach. She has no idea what the future holds for any of them. Carlos hasn’t even gotten his college letters yet, and she and Evie have to decide on living arrangements. But for tonight, as the stars shine bright within the sky, they have each other. And really, that’s enough.

“You and Mal seem to have been getting closer.” Ben spoke as they shared a tub of cookies that they picked up before taking their walk.
Y/n nodded in agreement to what her brother had said. “Yeah. I mean we were close before, but now that we know we have some of the same powers and same things set them off. I don’t know its bonded us in a different way.”
“She’s hanging out with you more than she is with me lately.” Ben gave her the pouty face he loved to use on her when they were growing up.
Y/n poked his face laughing lightly at him. “Awww, think I’m stealing your girl brother? Don’t worry she’s not really my type. I only like guys, my brother.”
“Haha very funny.” Ben laughed
“I know.” Y/n smiled triumphantly up at him, and they both laughed.
“I’m glad you two get along by the way. I mean you two act like sisters, which is good since-” Ben started but Y/n decided to cut him off.
“You eventually want to marry her?” Y/n teased while biting into a cookie.
Ben gently shoved her shoulder but nodded anyway. “Yeah. Yeah, I do. I actually plan on asking her soon.”
“Awwww. I’m rooting for you two!” Y/n squealed happily for her brother and him finding love.
“Thanks.” Ben uttered his reply smiled shyly at his sisters antics

“Guys! Guys! Hey, Wait Up!” Carlos yelled at the other VK’s trying to catch up with them in the halls. Luckily no one else was around to hear him, or what he was about to say.
“Carlos,  what's wrong?” Evie asked as they turned around to face an incoming Carlos.
Carlos bent over placing his hands on his knees trying to catch his breath, before speaking. “Did you hear what happened in the courtyard?”
“No” Jay answered for the 3 of them since they have been together all day and none of them have heard anything about what Carlos seemed to have seen.
“Why? What Happened?” Evie asked the young De Vil Again, hoping to get an answer this time about what her friend had seen that made him rush to tell them.
“I was with Jane and we saw Chad pushing around Ben by the fields, Y/n was with him and her eyes glowed!” Carlos quickly explained what had happened.
Mal tilted her head in confusion about why Carlos thought this was a big deal. “But we know her eyes glow Carlos.”
Carlos nodded in agreement but then instantly came back with the question “But- have any of you thought about the color?” All of them shook their heads ‘no’ at his question. “They glow blue- but not just any blue sapphire blue.”
Mal sighed, still not getting what Carlos is getting at. “What's that got to do with anything?”
Jay sighed shaking his head at how they could have not thought of him in the first place. “Your thinking”
“Yeah” Carlos nodded
Mal sighed, getting annoyed at the two boys. “Want to clue us in.”
“Sapphire eyes, the kind of magic and powers she has.” Carlos clued
“It should have been obvious. If only we knew thought about what the color of her eyes when she uses magic going into this.” Jay sighed but it was more out of relief than anything knowing they have finally found out who their friends Villain parent is.
“Guys! Mind sharing what you two have so clearly put together.” Evie spoke interrupting their little moment of realization.
Carlos looked towards Mal and Evie and spoke one word, “Hades”
“Hades is Y/n’s father. He’s her Villain parent.” Jay added

Love Finds Away
(sequel to “see You Again) ( A Harry Hook x reader story)
Part 10
When the dresses were all delivered and Evie Hadley and Ruby were ready, they headed down to the docks.
The whole way there Hadley couldn't stop staring at the Isle, only hoping that he felt the same way she did. She toyed with her necklace, not having the guts to take it off, but this time instead of tucking it away from view, she let it dangle over the top of her dress. Evie and Ruby both noticed her sullen look and shared a glance themselves.
Making their way up the docks, music and lights were blaring, causing Hadley to squint until her eyes adjusted. A blue velvet carpet lined the entire dock, leading to the massive yacht that cotillion was being held on.
The blue carpet was lined with press from start to finish. Hadley put on a fake smile as they stepped up the camera flashes momentarily blinding her.
Evie, being the natural when it comes to this sort of thing, took the lead with Doug, who had joined them at some point.
Hadley stood back allowing Evie to answer the questions being thrown their way. Just before they reached the ship they stopped in front of a group of reporters
"Evie! Hadley! You both look gorgeous tonight!"
"Did you design the hair accessories and Hadleys arm band?"
"No actually." Evie started touching the clip in her hair. " All of the accessories tonight were made by a very special person, Miss Dizzy of the Isle" Evie smiled into the camera knowing Dizzy would be watching for them.
They moved on after answering a few more questions.
Stepping onto the boat the music was louder and the main deck and upper deck were crowded with students dancing away.
Hadley found herself looking out at the isle. Which was in clear view from the side of the ship. She watched as the thunder and lighting rumbled.
Ruby linked arms with her startling her out of her gaze. She pulled Hadley to the middle with the others waiting for Mal to arrive.
Small chatter was exchanged until the guards along the stairs raised their trumpets to signal her arrival.
"The future Lady Mal" Lumiere proudly announced.
The whole deck erupted in applause as Mal stood at the top of the stairs.
Her once full ball gown dress was now cut into a high-low fashion, the front hem doned the same royal blue lace as the bodice and her shoes stood proud and tall. Her recently dyed purple hair was braided down the side and over her shoulder with tiny accents in between each weave.
She slowly made her way down the steps a look of pure terror on her face as everyone's eyes watched her every move.
Evie stepped forward to greet her at the bottom.
She took Mals hand and walked her to the center of the deck.
"How are you feeling?" Hadley asked as they reached them.
Mal gave a nervous smile.
" you know… kinda like.im going to throw up.."
The five chuckled lightly as the guards raised the trumpets again.
"King Benjamin" Lumiere announced as Ben made it to the top of the steps.
The whole ship thundered with applause as he made his way down the steps, rather quickly as Hadley observed.
Mal met him at the bottom smiling up at him, but his smile wasn't present.
"Mal, I really wish i had time to explain"
The spotlight shone at the top of the steps. There was a collective gasp from everyone on deck.
Ums stood at the top step in a beautiful teal mermaid style dress. Seashells and other sea accents adorned the frilly teal ruching. Her long braids had been carefully tied into a neat bun on the top of her head.
Ben smiled wide as Uma began walking down the stairs and jogged up the first few taking her hand and helping her down the rest of the stairs.
He stopped them at the last step and bowed to her kissing the gold ring that used to be on Mal's finger.
Uma giggled as he stood straight and took her hand leading her out to the center of the deck and right up to Mal.
Hadley completely droned out the conversation about Uma diving through the barrier and what not, claiming that she was in love with Ben and he with her.
When the two began dancing Mal curled into herself, hurt etched all over her features. Hadley rushed to Mals' side as did Evie. The two clung to her shoulders trying to comfort her. The boys huddled as well rubbing Mals arms.
"Ya know I'm not too thrilled I risked my life for him," Carlos said a little louder than the music playing.
Lonnie came up behind Mal holding Ruby's hand.
"We're with you Mal" Lonnie said as Ruby nodded.
Jay placed a hand on the small of Mals back and started leading her to the steps.
"Come on. Let's get outta here."
The others agreed following the two.
Just as they reached the bottom of the steps, Uma stopped dancing with Ben turing to the retreating vks.
"Hey, Hadley." Uma spoke over the music.
Hadley stopped when she heard her name, the rest following.
"What Uma?" Hadley nearly growled; in her anger Hadley's hair sparked and ignited.
"He feels the same way ya know."
Hadley's look of anger quickly morphed into one of confusion, her hair still holding a faint glow.
Uma smiled "But don't take my word for it."
Uma looked to the top of the staircase with a large smile. Hadley and the rest followed her gaze.
Hadley nearly stumbled holding on to Carlo's jacket to steady herself, her jaw dropping.
Everyone around the ship's deck was gasping and whispering. The other vks looked just as stunned as Hadley, looking from her to the top of the stairs.
Harry was nearly unrecognizable; his Isle clothes had been traded for a burgundy suit matching blazer and pants, white button up shirt and black vest. His usually out of control hair was neatly side swiped. Hadley noticed that he still had on his boots.
Harry's eyes, which still had a bit of eyeliner still around them, searched the group at the bottom before locking with Hadleys.
He made his way down the steps, the vks parting when he made it to them giving him a path to Hadley, but watching his every move. Lonnie put a hand on Jay's shoulder when he went to lunge.
Hadley took a step back when Harry reached her.
"Harry… what.. What are you doing here?" Hadley stuttered.
"I had ta know if it was true." He mumbled.
"If what was true?" Hadley asked.
"What ya said on the Isle, right before ya tossed me hook over the dock. When ya said ya.. ya love me… i need ta know if it was jus' a trick ta get away or if ya really mean it." Harry's eyes bore into hers. She thought she almost saw a tear. She could hear the people closest to her begin whispering wildy.
Out of the corner of her eye she noticed her friends starting to head up the stairs and saw Evie nod in her direction. Hadley placed a hand on his arm guiding them to a more secluded corner. Hadley looked at her hands as she dropped her arm, nervously twisting the rings around her fingers.
"It wasn't a trick Har, just really bad timing now that I think about it." Hadley let out a small breathy laugh. She could see Harry's shoulders drop slightly. "But it was never a trick." Hadley looked up at him. "It's true, I do love you. I've loved you for a long time; I just… never knew how to tell you." She looked down at her hands.
"I never wanted to risk losing you. You've been my best friend for a long time and you've never failed to make a day better." She looked up at him.
"Har, you're the one thing that has kept me going since I left." She let out a watery laugh, with tears welling in her eyes.
"I love you."
Harry cradled her jaw with his palm as his thumb gently glided across her cheek. Hadley closed her eyes leaning into it.
"Haddie… I … I love you too."
Hadley's heart nearly leapt out of her chest.
Harry ducked his head slowly bringing it closer to hers. He was close enough that she could still smell the sea and metal permeating from his jacket.
She sucked in a sharp breath just as his lips were about to collide with hers.
However…. Their moment was interrupted by a shriek coming from the deck.
Gotta love cliffhangers.... I can’t believe we’re already on part 10! If if you liked part 10 please comment and like for part 11.  As always, you can read the illustrated version over on my Wattpad (@phelpsphan).  If you would like to be added to the tag list please message me!
Summary: You would think that six months in Auradon would do any villain kid good.  Well, not Hadley.  After the events of the Coronation, Hadley's mood took a downward spiral; and for one reason, guilt.  She'd broken a promise and left her best friend on the Isle of the Lost.  How will she handle seeing him again when certain circumstances bring her back to the Isle? Will she finally tell him what she really feels?
Disclaimer: I do not own any characters in Descendants.  Hadley and the plot between her and Harry are mine.

Also I would be v. interested to hear any and all smut headcanons you'd like to share..... about OT4 or any sub-dynamic therein. I'm here for it. Please feed us content. ;)
I knew this was coming and since both you and @bunny-lou wanted me to be horny on main, I've decided to indulge in the smut. These are mixture of some scenarios, some I will be attempting to write. I've put it under the cut so people can just scroll past of it isn't their thing. But, if it is your thing then buckle up my friends 😉
1. *Planning to write*(Inspired by Carlos’s whole energy in ‘ways to be wicked’, specifically the shoulder thing because the action makes me fucking weak.)
↳ Mal and Carlos against the lockers. The hallway is abandoned, and maybe they’re supposed to be in class but Mal has too much energy and Carlos is oozing confidence. Carlos pins Mal to the lockers, his arms on either side of her locking her in place as they share very heated kisses. Carlos is taking control and Mal is trying and failing to keep quiet as Carlos sinks to his knees and fucks Mal with his tongue. Mal has her hands in Carlos’s hair and Carlos looks up and meets Mal’s gaze as she cums. When they eventually make it to class, both a little flushed Jay and Evie just know and share smirks and looks that scream “you’re telling/showing us exactly what happened in vivid detail later”
2. *planning to write* (it was during the SpideySparrow D1 rewatch when we were discussing our hatred for D*** and this idea came out of spite mostly)
↳ Evie is at her desk trying to do some work and Mal is teasing her under the desk. Mal gets impatient because she wants Evie’s attention and proceeds to crawl under the desk and be the perfect distraction. Doug comes into the room to talk to Evie and Mal doesn’t stop her relentless teasing, he tries to ask Evie out and Mal gets a little possessive, and it basically spurs Mal on to get him to back the fuck off of her girl; and she proceeds to make Evie cum and cry out Mal's name infront of him.
3. #ot4rights because I love Carvie being nerds and trying to study whilst Jal are being little shits and not wanting to/not being able to focus on the work.
↳ Carlos and Evie are trying to help Mal and Jay with their homework. Mal and Jay have fluctuated between doodling one one another’s work, wrestling and making out. So, Carlos and Evie decide to play a game of strip study to help Mal and Jay to pay attention. Every time they get an answer right or complete a question they get a ‘prize’, it starts off with little kisses but then Evie is removing her shirt and it becomes a matter of who’s going to break first. Homework is completely off the table when Carlos and Evie start touching themselves and they spend the rest of the evening in a haze of lust and orgasms.
4. I just really like the idea of them teasing one another and I think they would be quite into testing the boundaries in public and also none of them can resist when Evie is in a dress so flawless, it would be a crime not to do something 😉
↳ They’re at an event and Evie is trying to pay attention and act like she isn’t as bored as the other three. Carlos’s fingers crawl up her inner thigh as Evie is trying to keep her composure. Jay keeps giving her these smoldering looks and Mal is whispering dirty talk in Evie’s ear and telling her all the things they want to do to her. Evie ends up dragging Mal to the bathroom for some release and sending a picture of Mal on her knees to tease the boys. They leave early and Evie gets her revenge by making them beg for release as she teases (all three), spanks (Jay and Mal) and then rides Carlos’s face.
Other less specific ideas I have:
Mal and Jay battling for dominance, Mal likes to rake her fingernails down Jay's back and Jay bites her - not hard enough to pierce the skin but enough to leave a mark and a slight sting. Mal is constantly telling Jay to shut up and to quit being a fucking tease and Jay is always retorting with a "make me" as Mal flips them over, straddles him and rides him rough.
Sharing showers to “conserve water”. Jay sinking to his knees and Carlos brushing Jay’s hair from his face and trying to keep Jay from being attacked by the shower head.
Evie does a lot of research on aftercare and loves to make sure that her partners are both physically and mentally okay after particularly steamy or intense times. Carlos and Evie like to have warm baths and massage one another’s shoulders, lots of cuddling and soft kissing. They all learn that Mal needs verbal reassurance, both that she’s not gone too far (and that is is very much consensual) and that she’s not weak if she’s in a more submissive role. Jay likes to hold them afterwards, massage their shoulders, run his fingers through their hair or down their arms.
Carlos gets rushes of confidence where he gets really into dirty talk. He's really good at oral sex and loves it when his partner/partners run their hands through his hair. He loves bringing Jay to the edge and getting him to beg. Evie is so encouraging, she's always telling him how good he feels and how amazing he makes her feel. Mal is quieter she makes little moans but bites her lip and chases his movements. When she's really close she'll start speaking in what they thought was gibberish but it's actually dragon language and her eyes change shades during sex.
Mal uses her magic to make her fingers vibrate as she curls them, hitting the perfect spot. She can make her fingers or her tongue cold or warmer to intensify the feeling and uses some of her dragon powers to curl her tongue just right.
Jay absolutely loving masturbating infront of them, even more so when he gets to watch someone else doing it. He really loves putting on a show for his partners and trying to stop himself from finishing them off himself.
Evie using a strap-on with Jay and having him on all fours. She starts off slow, easing him into the feeling and getting used to herself in that position, but she quickly finds her footing. Jay is meeting Evie’s thrusts and he’s fisting the bed-sheets. Evie feels incredibly powerful when she has Jay reduced to a groaning mess.
Evie and Jay being one another’s dates to a fancy Auradon thing whilst Mal and Carlos are off causing some much needed mischief. They’re dancing together and it’s a build-up all night, lingering touches on the small of Evie’s back, a teasing kiss to Jay’s jaw. Jay tugging them to the nearest bathroom and lifting Evie up, with her legs around his waist as he fucks her against the wall.
Mal and Carlos using pranking together as foreplay and getting momentarily distracted as Mal gives Carlos a hand-job as he’s trying to explain the plan.
Mal has a praise kink. That’s all, no expanding on that one.
Everyone fucking losing it when Evie wears a leather jacket and no one being able to keep their hands off of her.
Carlos and Jay in particular like to experiment with food-play, lots of chocolate drizzled and licked off of one another. Mal can be persuaded to try something if strawberries are involved. She got particularly inventive with some chocolate covered strawberries and using them to tease Evie’s clit.

Little Flame (Hades x reader)
Request: Can I have an imagine where I'm Mal's best friend and I have a crush on Hades and he overhears?
A/N: Made with love, based on @thorxme18 ‘s request (I modified the concept a bit) 🥰 Sorry not sorry but… no smut in this one. Also, this ended up being super long, I think it's like 7k-ish ????  Anyways….. Enjoyyyy and tell me what you think.
Tumblr media
Pairing: Hades x reader
Warning: Cursing
Disclaimer: I DO NOT own Descendants or any of its characters.
Y/I: your initial
Much to your surprise, everything had changed from the last time some VKs were elected to go off-shore. Everyone who wasn't chosen seemed to be happy for those who were; you wished you'd've had that reaction from your mentor and, you'd dare to say friend, Hades. You couldn't bring yourself to stop thinking about it, it made both your mind and your left foot bounce non-stop as you waited for Mal and Ben to make an entrance at the new students' welcoming ceremony.
Ben thanked his people for their support, but not everyone seemed to be sharing the positive attitude on the VK topic. Beside you, you heard Audrey's grandma, whose name you couldn't remember, scoff, "not like we had a choice."
All you did was roll your eyes, after all your time in Auradon, you had grown used to the comments about you being a villain. You listened to Ben while fidgeting with the sleeve of your dress, a grin plastered across your face in expectancy of what was gonna happen after he finished singing. However, just like it happened with the announcement of new arrivals, not everyone was happy about the king's proposal.
"No!" Audrey screamed, making a few threatening glares, including yours, be thrown her way. As cliché as it may sound, it is right to say that, if looks could kill, Audrey would've been dead within seconds (if her jealousy didn't kill her first).
After Mal said yes, everyone began celebrating and commenting on how romantic the gesture had been, how good of a couple they made, and how lucky Auradon's people were to have them.
"Ben and Mal are the absolute best, I really cannot wait for Mal to be queen," said the girl who was standing next to you.
With a smile, you nodded in agreement, "I know, I mean, they work really well together, and they're such a great couple."
"You'd really rather have a VK on the throne than me?"
The girl just turned around and left, but you faked a smile and mocked, "I think even Carlos' dog would make a better queen."
"You're not one to talk, you're one of them yourself," Chad Charming came to Audrey's defense.
"Why thanks, captain obvious, I was completely unaware of that." You rolled your eyes at them as you began making your way to where your friends were standing.
As soon as Mal came down from the stage, you and Evie engulfed her in a tight hug.
"Did you guys know?"
Evie just sighed and grinned, "everything."
You shrugged nonchalantly, "helped plan it." You hugged her once more, thrilled to see her so happy, "you're gonna be the best queen that this pretty, preppy people can even imagine."
….
You stood next to Evie's desk, scanning a new book of sketches she had made for Mal's wedding dress and munching on a chocolate chip cookie.
"Who else knows about the crown and the scepter?" asked Evie, with her brows slightly frowned.
"No one. I mean, think about it, people are scared enough as it is. We have to employ these entirely new security measures". Mal spoke with confidence as she explained the situation to both of you.
For one, you couldn't believe that such important objects had been stolen, and you understood the fear of the people, knowing from first-hand experience how dangerous and wicked villains could be. However, you didn't support the Isle's complete isolation, it was unfair to take such measures.
"Will this delay our bringing over more V.K.'s?" Evie asked.
Mal sighed and replied, "We're talking about closing the barrier for good."
You gasped. "What? M, they can't do that."
Automatically, Evie's notebook rested on the table next to you and began pacing.
"Not only will you kill dozens of children's illusions to be here, but we'd never get to see the others again. You said no, right?"
"Y/N is right, you know? Besides, the four of us are living the dream, and we finally get to share that. I mean, what could be more important than that?" Evie had always been the most compassionate out of the five of you, so she was trying to lead Mal into the path that seemed the kindest.
"Yeah. I know. I mean, maybe security or maybe peace of mind for everyone in Auradon. People like Hades, dangerous and cruel, could get out of the Isle at any moment, I truly believe that it's best for us to keep the barrier closed. For the sake of our people".
"Our people? M, look, don't get me wrong; I really admire how you care about everyone's safety here at Auradon," you sat on a spare chair, between your two best friends, eyes pleadingly looking at Mal. "But you can't afford to forget where we all come from. Better than anyone, we know that not everyone there is a criminal; and, even some of those who are, want a chance to prove themselves. There must be something, anything that can be done."
Mal seemed a bit taken aback, both of you could see that she was having a hard time with the current situation so, even if you didn't completely agree with the measures that she was telling you about, you gave her your most sincere smile and all the support that you could muster.
"M, I'm so glad that you're going to be Queen. You will be a part of these conversations, you will stand up for the V.K.s. Thank you for telling us. You're gonna be a great Queen".
Mal seemed gave you a small closed-lip smile, you and Evie stood up and hugged her, and she sighed, calming down a bit.
You hummed to yourself as you helped Carlos prepare a picnic basket for Jane's birthday party. Chuckling, while Evie threw different fruits at Jay, you folded everyone's towels and neatly arranged them. When you were about to go upstairs, to get your camera, you heard a faint, "later, suckers!" coming from outside.
You all rushed out and, before you could see anything, Jay exclaimed, "Whoa! You might wanna think of a spell for that."
Turns out, Audrey, who apparently was out and about looking for trouble, not only stole the scepter and the crown, but had also turned Mal into an old lady. Your friends were debating over what to do concerning the Audrey issue, when you chimed in, "The only thing more powerful than the scepter is Hades' ember. We need to go get it."
Carlos countered, "Are you sure? I mean, Y/N, can't you fix it with your magic?"
"Sorry guys, but Hades's our only choice, we need to get the ember."
Jay scoffed, "Yeah, right. We can also invite him over for tea."
Carlos gave him a smack on the back of his head, but didn't support your suggestion either.
"He’s right, Y/I,” Evie spoke up, “ besides, no one knows where his lair is”.
You shared a look with Celia, then shrugged, “I do. Actually, we both do.”
“I'm his errand rat. I've got the key at my dad's.”
“Great, you’re both coming,” announced Mal.
To be honest, you missed the dusty air of the Isle; you'd never been a fan of the Olympus, so when the gods decided to kick you, the goddess of devilry in war, daughter of Ares, out of the place, you didn't even bother argue. You greeted Dr. Facilier, waltzed around his shop for a bit, and then exited with your friends.
"Long time nay see," beamed Harry with a wicked grin. The bikes that had brought you were now occupied by pirates of The Lost Revenge's Crew.
Jay was fuming and it showed, he snarled, "get off my bike, Hook.''
"Catch me if you can, Jay!"
And then, they were gone.
You made a move to follow them, as Jay, Carlos, and Evie already had, but Mal placed a hand on your shoulder. "They got this, the three of us gotta gotta go find the ember." So you made your way to Hades'.
With a sigh, you opened the door to one of the most familiar places in the whole Isle.
"Okay, stay quiet," Celia warned. " It echoes, like, crazy in here."
The three of you walked and you could see Mal's eyes bouncing all around the entrance of the 'New Underworld,' as you liked to call it jokingly. When Mal passed besides Severo' s cage, his three mouths snarled menacingly and he began barking; however, it stopped when you passed by and was replaced by happy panting. You looked at him but decided against greeting the three-headed dog, you'd have time for that later. Your best friend sent you a questioning look and you smiled at her, as if telling her "I'll explain later."
The only way of entering the lair was similar to the entrance of the mines in which dwarfs worked back at Charmington. Multiple rail bikes were stationed on the edge, together with some lantern helmets. Each of you took a helmet and got into a bike, which immediately began taking you to where your mentor and friend lived.
You glanced back at Celia and Mal as you explained, "okay, the plan's simple: you'll approach him and get the ember while Celia and I distract him".
"Okay," "alright then," they both agreed.
Given that the former god was fast asleep, you and Celia stayed at the entrance of the cave, while Mal followed your directions and approached him, to take the ember. You mentally cursed as Hades, still unmoving, inquired, "What are you two doing here?"
"We just thought we'd, uh, say hi," Celia tried. When Hades didn't respond, she continued, "also, we noticed that you're low on… on… canned corn."
Not knowing how to support her weak ass excuse, you limited yourself to greet him with a small wave, to which he responded with a smirk and a nod.
"Hi, Dad". Mal remained behind his couch, bending her knees to face him.
"Quite a show you put on the other day," he claimed.
"Right back at you".
After steering awake, he stood up, more like jumped to his feet, "I was just coming to see you!"
Mal didn't believe him, and didn't bother to pretend. "Really? Wonder why.Is it because I'm gonna be Queen?"
"Ah! Now, Mal, don't be bitter".
"You abandoned me when I was a baby," the fae's voice was full of anger and disgust.
The god rolled his eyes and defended himself, "no. no, I left your mother. She's not the easiest person to get along with".
"You think?"
You scoffed, making your way toward the small storage room where all your witchcraft and sorcery materials were sitting, unused ever since you moved to Auradon. While you gathered your possessions, you didn't pay much attention to their interaction, they deserved privacy.
From where you were, you could hear them sing and fight like they hadn't done in the last sixteen years or so.
"Do you wanna make up for being a lousy dad? - Give me the ember," you heard Mal demand.
Hades smirked, "the ember only works for me." And me, you recalled.
"No. It'll work for me. We're blood."
"You're only half Hades. The ember won't do everything for you that it does for me".
"I'll take my chances." Mal began to walk toward where you were, so you took it as a cue to grab your bag and make your exit.
"If it gets wet, it's game over."
When you left, Hades glanced at the cupboard where you kept some things, noticing that, now, the only thing left was a small piece of burnt paper with the words LONG LIVE THE UNDERWORLD messily scribbled on it. His thunderous laugh was faintly heard back on the surface. 'The place does have on hell of an echo'.
Your eyes seemed to be stuck on Mal as you walked back to the barrier; when she noticed you gave her a smile, but felt a kick in your stomach for not telling her which was your connection to him. You could have told her at the lair, but remained silent, thinking it was better to do so when the tension was less.
Everything was quicker than expected, you got in, got the ember after sort of an awkward greeting, and got out. The only problem that you had was the fact that Gil and Harry had now escaped, unleashing a chain of events that had resulted in the oddest of alliances. Long story short, Uma had been roaming the sea all this time, apparently looking for a hole in the barrier; and, while doing that, she had found all the luxury of life outside the dome of the Isle. So, now Mal had promised to guarantee a future for all VKs and you were working with the sea three.
After arriving at Auradon prep, Mal had lead you to the Castle. You looked for Ben with no success, ending up in a room full of knight armours which, speaking of odd, were now charmed to fight. Thanks Audrey. From there, things had gone messy and both gangs were now singing, dancing and fighting for their lives. You did what you could to cover Mal, who was battling two minion armours at once. You swinged your sword and struck the ones around you, with your eyes focused on the scene surrounding you; they were outnumbering you and your group was cornered into the center of the room. However, you couldn't help but notice that the sea witch had dropped the ember, which Audrey had noticed too.
When one of the knights went for the ember, you slashed his head off and went for it too, beating him to it. You concentrated, closing your eyes and clenching your fist around the ember. The familiar burst of blue sparks began to run through you and your eyes opened, glowing silver as you screamed and lifted your arm, making the knights stand completely still before dropping their swords and falling to pieces.
"Y/N?" Mal winded, her wide eyes calling on to an explanation.
You scratched your neck, trying to force your words out, "it's a long story, M."
She pressed on the topic, "Hades said his ember only worked for him, How..."
The others remained quiet, using the time to catch their breaths and recover from the recent encounter; however, Evie's and Carlos' faces mirrored Mal's.
Hesitantly, you revealed the truth. "You guys know I'm sort of a greek goddess myself?," they nodded.
"I am, or I used to be, the goddess of devilry in war, known for being reckless and destructive. This sparked Hades' interest, so he became my mentor and one of my closest friends. When my dad, Ares, found out, he asked Zeus for my permanent expulsion from the Olympus, so I moved in with Hades. Before everything with Hercules and Megara happened, I was already learning everything about the Underworld. Hades' grew to trust me enough to teach me the magic of death so, as it all happened, I learned to use the ember".
The others looked satisfied with your story, but Mal looked at you with an air of betrayal, "so, you've known him all this time," she concluded.
Again, you sighed, "that's right.'’
This time, it was Carlos who spoke, "why didn't you tell us?"
"I don't know, guess, the way I saw it, you guys would've treated me differently knowing that I'm immortal". Okay, that was only half of the truth, but you couldn't risk it in the middle of such an important mission.
Evie smiled at you and, while hugging you, she assured, "Y/N, We love you, no matter what."
Carlos, Jay, and even Mal were quick to join her, showering you with smiles and words of agreement.
"Uh, guys, sorry to interrupt but we gotta keep going," Gil said, making you end the hug and continue your search for the king.
….
On your way to Audrey's room, Mal approached you.
"So… you and my dad being friends, didn't see that one coming," she chuckled.
You shrugged, kicking the dust beneath you, "he was there for me in hard times, the guy has a better heart than what people give him credit for."
She nodded at your words, "How'd you guys meet?"
"We made quick friends in the Troyan war. I was summoned by the greek soldiers and he was there, personally gathering the souls of the fallen. He said my work was great and I complimented his fiery hair, which, as I came to learn, turns out is one of his softy points."
"The Troyan war? So that's why you didn't even open your greek history book," she concluded, lightening the mood.
Audrey was not in her dorm, but Uma found her diary, so you arrived to the conclusion that she was at Fairy Cottage, a place where she had spent a big part of her childhood. Nevertheless, you had all agreed to meet at Evie's after the two hours had passed, so you headed there instead.
When you made it, you saw the three new Vk's fast asleep on the living room, and Evie's boyfriend, Doug, in the same condition but in her study.
Evie fell to the floor beside him, desperately trying to wake him, but to no avail.
Uma rolled her eyes, "he's spelled, is she not a fast learner?"
"She's emotionally involved, okay?" Mal defended her.
"Well, in that case, she should be able to wake him up. True love's kiss".
The atmosphere in the room got thicker with Uma's suggestion, so Evie asked to be left alone with her sleeping boyfriend. After a song and a true love kiss, not to mention with Doug back on his feet, you decided to take a break and have a snack.
You smiled when Mal apologized to Uma, and placed a hand on hers to show your pride and support. However, happiness and peace of mind didn't last long. With loud thuds, wooden boards began to cover the windows and trapped you inside the house. Mal's eyes glowed green as she tried to break Audrey's jinx, but her magic wasn't powerful enough so she and Uma had to join forces. The boards fell down.
Evie hummed, "You did it! Together! This is what I've been talking about".
"I guess my shell likes you," Uma shrugged, wanting to appear nonchalant. "Why don't you hold on to that?"She handed the ember to Mal, but instead of keeping it, she smiled and handed it to you.
"Actually, I think Y/N should have it. She knows it better than I do," she confided.
You thanked your best friend and put the ember away, proceeding to look out the window.
You caught a breath but, before you said anything, Celia announced, "hey, it's your bae!"
That's all it took for all of you to rush outside, stopping on your tracks when you saw the guys on Evie's front yard. With a smile plastered on your face, you hugged Jay and Carlos, and smiled at the pirates and Ben (who was Busy greeting his queen-to-be).
"I'm so glad you guys are okay," you raved. "All of you," once again, your eyes fell on Gil and Harry.
After reuniting, you had to part ways once more; Jane, Gil, and Doug went to find Fairy godmother, and the rest went looking for Audrey to Fairy Cottage.
….
Frankly, it was quite predictable that Audrey would, yet again, outsmart you; so, when she wasnt in her hideout anymore, you weren't as surprised. To say that going there had been a loss of time would be inaccurate, given that you had witnessed a sort of amusing scene when Ben freed Chad.
You were walking together, abandoning Fairy cottage, when Ben demanded that, someday, he had to hear how Mal and Uma ended up working for a common cause. You shared a look with Evie, and she happily declared, "Actually, Mal promised to let all the kids off the Isle - once this is over".
"Mal?" The king inquired.
The fae sighed defeated, which you didn't understand.
"I have to tell you guys something. Um… I lied to you," she confessed. "No one will be coming off the Isle".
You couldn't help but get angry at her, how could she give you so much hope only to crash it? You knew that if you opened your mouth, you wouldn't be able to control your words so, with your eyes locked in the ground, you stood motionless.
She continued, "the program is shut down. And the barrier… will be closed for good. For Auradon's safety."
Uma spoke up, looking at Mal with a deadly glare. "Hold up. So we're saving your precious people and your behinds for a lie. I knew it was a mistake to trust you. You're always out for yourself".
Harry followed his captain's example, facing Ben.
"And you, King Benny..." he bowed, approaching your friend, "you're probably just gonna throw us all back inside".
It was not the badass pirates who raised their voices in that moment, it was the broken children who had discovered that they had been, in fact, fighting for a heartless lie this whole time.
"You know what? I actually thought you were brave. You're nothing but a chicken." Celia's voice broke when she spoke, sounding so betrayed that it wrecked you. "Too scared to tell me I was never gonna see my dad again".
You went after Celia, throwing the ember at mal with your back facing her. Unnoticed by you, the magical gem had landed on a tiny puddle on the forest floor; but that had been enough to extinguish its light.
"No! No," Mal exclaimed, tears beginning to flood her eyes.
"Regain your might and ignite! Regain your might and ignite!" Despite her desperate tries, the ember did not light back on.
The two pirates left to find their friend, showing no empathy at all and not bothering to look back.
At least now, Mal had the guts to face her friends and apologize. She directed her words at Evie and the others, but wished that you were there too, even if she didn't deserve it at that moment.
"Evie… I'm so sorry. I'm sorry, I just… I thought that... I was afraid to tell you. I thought I was gonna lose my best friend.I… I just lost Y/N! But I had to do something. I had to protect Auradon".
Evie brought herself to ask, "closing the barrier was your idea?"
Mal sobbed, defending herself, "I did it for us. I did it for our life that we have here now."
"For our life? What about the kids that we left behind on that island? The kids that we promised? We were their only hope. I thought you were gonna stand up for the V.K.'s. But instead, you lied to them. And you lied to Jay. And you lied to Carlos. And you lied to Y/N. And you lied to me. We're your family."
"I'm gonna go look for Y/N," whispered Jay, only for Carlos to hear.
When the younger boy nodded, the thief began to run in the direction in which you had previously left. After a few yards, he found you, throwing rocks into a small pond. He kneeled to sit next to you, but with a cloud of pink fog, he turned to rock. That's what let you know that Audrey was near, probably going after Mal, so you jumped to your feet and ran back to your friends. There they were, all of them turned to rock; but Mal was nowhere to be found.
Okay, think, think, she has to be somewhere near. Where would M go? She'd go find Audrey; now, where would Audrey go… The castle!
So, that's where you went and when you arrived, you saw your friend begging the pirate sea witch for her help. You were about to make your presence known, but you were snatched off your feet and hit with something on the back of your head.
You woke up on one of the towers next to Celia, who practically threw herself into your embrace.
"It's gonna be fine," you tried to reassure her.
"No, it's not," scoffed Audrey, grabbing Celia by her forearm and forcing her to stand up. "Now, scream for help," she ordered, "I need Mal up here so I can end her once and for all."
Celia complied. "Help me, Mal!" she screamed.
"Don't listen to her, Mal! Go find the others," you tried to warn her but Audrey put the scepter against Celia's neck; "say another word, and she's done with," she threatened.
"Save your little friend, Mal!"
"Help me, Mal!"
You cheered when you saw Mal approaching in her dragon form, but a glare from Audrey was enough to shut you up.
"Careful not to fry your little V.K. buddy!"
Audrey was distracted by Mal so you took the chance and jumped from the tower, landing on your feet. You ran to Uma and Harry, who were still there, watching the whole thing.
You dusted off your jacket and approached them, "are you guys okay?"
"Yeah, but she doesn't stand a chance without the ember," claimed Uma.
''We're stronger together. We're stronger together!" She tried to use her shell, but it was not working. "I'm right here, Mal! Regain your might and ignite. I'm right here, girl," the ember flickered lit but it didn't last long.
"Let me help, you placed your hand over Uma's, grabbing the shell with her. "We're right here. Regain your might and ignite!"
Your eyes gleamed silver and you beamed, "It worked!"
In that moment, Harry took you by surprise when he hugged you and Uma at the same time, not caring about 'sides'. You hugged the pirates back and grinned.
"Thanks Uma," you smiled, "and I'm sorry for everything".
Even if Mal had already apologized to Uma, you felt the need to do the same because, even if you did everything under your friend's lead, you had still been terrible with her.
"S'alright," she returned the smile, "and I'm glad we did this together."
For what seemed to be the thousandth time you closed your eyes and concentrated on the ember, but the result was not different from the previous attempts. You fell back into Ben's arms, panting.
"Sorry, guys, but I'm not powerful enough. The ember's laced to Hades' magic, not mine."
"There must be something that we can do, she's slipping away," Evie insisted.
"As Y/N said, there's only one person in the world who might be able to do something about this, and that's Hades," said Mal.
"Hades? He wouldn't do it. I wouldn't risk it,"Ben tried to reason.
"Actually, he might do it for me. He's my father," Mal revealed.
"I'll send guards to get him,"offered Ben.
"I can go get him," you volunteered, "I know where his lair is."
Ben looked at you questioningly; "he's, uh, an old friend of mine," you wrinkled your nose.
Uma entered the ro
\om, followed by Harry. "Maybe I can hitch a ride. The Isle is my home, someone needs to be there to protect it."
"Well, then, you will need your first mate". You smiled at them, already fond of the pirates.
"The Isle will be in very good hands."
The room fell silent, but Celia broke the ice, "Can I go, too?I wish I could be in both places," she gave Mal a sad smile.
So, it was settled. You were leaving the following day.
….
"I'll be back soon, stay here," you told the guards.
"Good luck, Y/N," Uma placed her hand on your shoulder and you smiled at her.
"Thanks, guys, for everything."
"Nay," shrugged Harry, "no big deal but, seriously, if ya ever visit, come to the ship."
With that, you parted ways. You knew how to get to Hades' by heart, from every part of the Isle; so it took you no time to reach the entrance of his lair.
You let out a breath and went in.
"Look who showed up after the curtain closed, heard you helped Mal beating the witch wannabe," he didn't even have to look your way to know who had traspassed his property; it was enough with the sound of your step.
"I… How did you even hear that?" You tried to avoid the elephant in the room.
Ignoring your question, he continued as he added what you noticed were the final ingredients to one of the potions that he sold at the market. "Congrats, really. Guess I taught you well. Now, let me guess, you came to say a final goodbye now that you're welcomed to join the goodie-two-shoes once again; it was fun having you, Y/N/N."
Now, you straight up scoffed at him, "dude, chill, don't get all cheesy and sad on me. I'm here because I need a favor; actually, Mal needs a favor."
He looked at you and you could see that he was angry, broken, and yet willing to help you out once again, "okay then, little flame, I'm listening.
You looked around the room,  then looked at him, "It's Audrey, she's under the sleeping curse."
He crossed his arms over his chest and raised a brow, "so what, didn't you use the ember to wake her?"
"Couldn't do it," you admitted. "Guess I'm not as connected to it anymore."
He scoffed, glaring at you, "Who would've thought, it's been what, four years? Not that I'm keeping record."
Even if his tone was sharp and his eyes seemed hateful, you could read him like an open book; and, to say that it broke you to see him so hurt because of you was quite too little to express what you felt. "Hades, I… I'm sorry."
At this point, your eyes were boring into his pleadingly, but his pride didn't let him forgive you so easily.
"You're sorry?" he exclaimed. "Jeez, little flame, that's a relief! I'm glad a lowlife villain like myself is at least worthy of your apologies!"
For a moment, your sadness and regret were clouded by anger. You were forcing yourself to be brave enough to make amends and here he was, being a complete dick without even listening to you.
Stepping closer to him, with only a few inches between the two of you, you barked, "look, I'm actually trying here. So if you could shove your ego up your ass for a second and listen, that'd be fucking great!"
He smirked, closing the gap even more, "at least you haven't completely lost it yet."
When the steam of the moment dissolved into the air, you stepped back and sat down, using your hand for inviting him to do the same. "Now, the truth is, I did try to call; I tried to reach you the last time I was here, but I… I don't know. I was afraid of losing Mal to you. I was afraid of losing the world outside to you."
He remained silent so you continued, "When I was chosen to go to Auradon, I thought I had lost everything. Then I just met all of this great people and discovered that I'd… I..." you huffed. "Who am I trying to trick. The truth is I was awfully ungrateful with you, and a terrible friend and I'm really sorry."
He quirked a brow.
"Yes, I'm sorry, and as much as you'd like to hear more, that's all that I have to say."
"What were you saying about not getting all sad and cheesy? Oh, right, 'dude chill!' " He mocked you with a high pitched voice, making you smile.
"When do we leave?"
"As soon as possible."
….
When you got to Auradon, the guards told you that the king had sent specific instructions for Hades' stay. You were forced to head back to your place, and he was kept in a small version of the magic dome for the night. Next morning, when you were already back at Audrey's dorm, he was taken there by at least eight guards.
The former god entered the room, his limbs adorned with silver cuffs, and his face sporting a snarl of disgust to which you had become familiar with a long time ago.
Mal walked up to him, closely followed by you.
"Thank you," she said, "for coming."
"Didn't do it just for you," his eyes caught yours.
Ben and Mal shared a confused look, but the king broke it and asked, "can you wake her?'’
"Since when do heroes care about villains?" asked Hades, turning the cards around.
Ben trailed off, "she's..."
The god completed the young king's sentence, "one of your own. Right, When you guys try to destroy the world… it's an error in judgment. But when it's one of us… lock them up and throw away the key."
He scoffed, "right, Beast?"
After having a stare down with the former king, who had imprisoned the god and stripped him off his magic all those years ago, he raised his hands, but the guards restrained him immediately, going full defense.
"Yeah. I'm gonna need to use my hands," he declared.
He extended his hand, silently asking for the ember.  Mal handed it to him and this time he was not restrained.
When he grabbed the gem that was rightfully his, his hair lit up.
He smirked, "haven't lost my touch."
The former lord of the dead stepped closer to the bed, he began the countercourse and the room was showered on a blue light, beaming with his power.
Audrey woke up, wishing for it all to be a nightmare. "I'm sorry. I wanted to hurt you both. I wanted to hurt all of you," she sighed.
Mal and Ben approached her bed. "I have owed you an apology for… a very long time now," said Mal, Ben agreed, "and so have I."
Then, Audrey's grandma, whose name you still couldn't recall, apologized to Mal. Just then, Beast motioned the guards to seize Hades, and to take him away once again. How classy, apparently a villain didn't even deserve a thank you.
After the guards exited the room, you followed them into the hallway.
"Wait! Guess I'll see you later," you smiled. "Say hi to Pain and Panic for me."
"They'll be thrilled to hear from you," he tried to smirk back, his expression just as sad as yours. "Thanks for a glimpse of the sun, by the way."
Without thinking twice, you walked up to him and pressed your lips to his, framing his left cheek with your right hand. The kiss wasn't as hungry as you would've expected it to be, but it was eager and full of feelings. It was the perfect way to say I'm gonna miss you.
No word was uttered afterwards. Your foreheads remained against each other  for a few seconds, and his blue eyes looked at yours in a way in which they hadn't before, yet he didn't smile. You both stepped back, turned around, he slipped the ember into your hand, and then you left your separate ways. You smiled to yourself and held the familiar gem, feeling its power and warmth curse through you.
Days passed and you couldn't stop thinking about that kiss; you hadn't told anyone and it was eating you alive. So, now that you were at Evie's, wrapped around a blanked by the fire, watching a movie with your two best friends, you were gonna do it. You grabbed the remote and pressed pause, taking a breath and looking at them.
"Guys I need to tell you something. I'm sorry if it upsets you but it's been drowning me for some time now. I, I kissed Hades the day he came here to wake Audrey up."
Evie smiled at you but Mal was frozen in shock, her mouth was agape and her eyes were wide open. She tried to say something but words didn't come out.
You continued, fidgeting with your blanket, "M, I know that things have been quite tense between you but I couldn't lose him; I couldn't let him go back to the Isle without knowing how I felt and, believe me, I've tried to tell you guys before but I was also figuring this whole thing out."
Evie grabbed Mal's hand supportingly, then the fae took a breath and smiled at you. "Thanks for telling me this, Y/I.''
"You guys, you're my best friends. There's no one else I'd trust with this," you smiled at them, glad that they'd had taken it so well.
Mal sighed, "still, I can't reverse my decret to close the barrier Y/N. I'm sorry, you know that no matter what, I'll always be there for you; but I have a kingdom to think of and, even if Hades has helped us out and, even if he's your friend or… whatever he is," she chuckled, both of you joining for a second, "I can't overlook the crimes he's committed."
Your head and your heart were divided. You knew that Mal was speaking as a queen and not as a friend, and were utterly happy that she supported you, even with everything that was going on between her and Hades; but you couldn't stop yourself from being disappointed in the fact that she didn't even consider letting him out of the Isle.
Even so, you gave her a tender smile and hummed, "I know M, and I wouldn't think of asking you to do it for me. I just had to talk this out with you, it didn't feel right to keep it to myself."
"We're happy for you, Y/I," Evie smiled.
"Very," agreed Mal.
…..
Now, a few days later, you were happy again, as happy as you could be with everything that had happened. Standing between Evie and Carlos, you clapped as Ben and Mal appeared on the balcony.
"Lady Mal and I wanna thank you for celebrating our engagement with us today. I couldn't be prouder or happier to call you my Queen." Ben looked at Mal lovingly, and to be honest you felt only a bit jealous of their happiness; but they both deserved it, after going through so much. "So… raise your glasses to our future Queen of Auradon."
"To our Queen of Auradon!”
"To our Queen of Auradon!" you cheered.
"Speech, Your Special-ness," mocked Carlos.
Jay followed, "speech, Your Fancy One."
"Speech, your oh-so-royalness," you winked at her.
She chuckled and smiled apologetically, then she fell serious and the crowd became silent.
She turned toward Ben, "I can't. I can't be Queen of Auradon. I can't turn my back on the Isle."
After you looked at her, nodding in encouragement, she began talking to the people. 'We made a decision… to close the barrier forever; and it was my idea, but it's wrong. I've learned that you can't live in fear because it doesn't actually protect you from anything. You never know where the bad is gonna come from. And you never know where the heroes are gonna come from either."
Carlos grabbed your hand, in assurance.
Mal continued, "Without Uma and her pirates, Auradon would be gone. And without Hades, my father, Audrey would be gone. We are all capable of good and bad, no matter which side of the barrier we come from. And that's why I can't be Queen of just Auradon. I have to be Queen of the Isle, too. And it's time that we take the barrier down forever."
Ben placed a hand on her back, and spoke in her support. "I choose to be a King who moves forward. It's time for forgiveness. It's time for new beginnings. The barrier will come down!"
"Yes!" "Woo!" you and Carlos cheered.
"Bring it down, Mal," and so, the five of you did it together.
After everyone on both sides had processed what had just happened, a sea of villains and vks flooded the bridge and came to Auradon; your eyes surfed the crowd, looking for the face you wanted to see, but he was nowhere in sight. Some of the Auradon kids made their way to the gates, to welcome the newcomers, so you joined your friends at the very front of the bunch.
Everyone was dancing and singing and celebrating, so you let the vibes absorb you. You danced and cheered with the rest, but when the party mood dimmed out a bit, you finally saw the spikes of blue hair that you were looking for moments before. However, you didn't approach Hades, you went straight to Mal.
"He came," you said, anxiety dripping from you.
She smiled at you reassuringly and advised, "Get out there and tell him how you feel; he's a complete idiot not to feel the same."
"M, I can't," you insisted, "what if he doesn't?"
She smirked at you, "as I said, only a complete idiot wouldn't like you back."
You let out a breath, shook your fear out, and looked around to see where he was. Much to your despair, or your relief, he had been standing behind a group of people nearby.
"So, how exactly do you feel?" he smirked. "I think it wasn't clear enough the other day."
"Look, I've liked you for quite sometime now," you confessed. "Maybe a few decades. The kiss the other day, it was just me spilling it all; you don't have to like me back, but I just had to tell you."
" 'Dude, chill! Don't get all cheesy on me'," again, there was his cheap impression of you.
This time, you couldn't help but laugh and roll your eyes at him and, before you could say anything, his hands flew to your waist and his lips were on yours once again. This time, both of you were absorbed by the moment and let the kiss be everything that the first one had not been. He bit your lower lip and granted himself entrance to your mouth, which you accepted happily. You separated to catch your breath and smiled. He looked at you like he had before and avowed, "Nah, I think I don't like you that much, little flame."
Once again, you laughed and punched him playfully, "shut up, really."
"Or what?" he challenged, making you blush.
You recovered quickly, and whispered into his ear, "I guess you'll find out later, maybe at my place."
"Welcome to Auradon, by the way." You kissed his cheek, grabbing his hand and leading him to where Mal and the others were.

The Only Time I Feel Alive Is When I Find Something I Would Die For (Part 2)
Mal’s plots turn personal when she cooks up a plan for her big brother, Jay, and Evie’s brother, Carlos.
Part 1 is here.
This also based off a @bunny-lou prompt from this post.
Evie has to admit, Mal can really be insufferable sometimes.
Whatever plan she has, Evie can’t help but worry a little as to why Mal needs to have her brother involved. One minute her purple-haired friend is all talk of of their school assignment/actual plot to rule the isle, and the next minute she’s asking her to bring Carlos to a secret movie screening being projected on the side of a factory just outside of downtown, and refusing to give any explanation as to why.
Of course, Evie has her theories. After all, you can’t just ask if someone is single without having any romantic ulterior motives can you? Mal is smart, sure, but Evie wasn’t born yesterday. She’s spent enough time with her best friend at this point to surmise at least part of her plotting before she attempts a follow-through.
But Evie’s not sure how she feels about that, since she has really no idea what Mal’s romantic intentions are for Carlos. Does she have a crush on him? Is Mal trying to plan a date for herself with Evie’s older brother?
For some reason, the thought of Mal flirting with Carlos leaves a lump in Evie’s throat and sends her stomach churning. Mal is her friend, and she doesn’t want to lose her time with her in favor of her brother. Or anyone else, actually. She enjoys every moment she spends with the girl with purpley hair, fiery green eyes and a devilish pout. She doesn’t want to give that up to anyone.
But she can’t ever deny Mal anything.
“I’m glad you found out about this screening and invited me, Eves. I’ve been dying to see this movie,” Carlos tells her, smiling brightly ahead as they walk.
“Of course! Thanks for agreeing to be my chaperone so mom would let me go,” she giggles, bumping him playfully in his shoulder. “But I did know that this movie would be right up your alley. A guy travelling across the country to find a girl he met online is just romantic enough to catch your interest,” Evie teased, making Carlos snort at her and shake his head.
“You know me too well, sis. But don’t you start spreading the word that I love rom coms. You might ruin my rep,” Carlos adds with a wink.
Evie can’t hide the chuckle that bursts from her lips. “Sure thing, bro. Gotta protect that rep that I’ve never heard anyone talk about ever.”
Carlos tries to give Evie a knowing glare, but his eyes are alight with laughter, and the pair chuckle quietly to themselves as they finally approach the crowd gathering in front of the factory.
-----
“Why am I here again?” Jay moans, unable to hide his irritation.
Mal rolls her eyes. “Because mom didn’t want me to die going out at night alone? You can’t just be my chaperone for once and NOT bitch about it?”
Jay slouches back on the blanket they laid out with a quiet ‘oomph,’ glaring daggers at his sister but otherwise keeping quiet. Mal huffs, checking her phone for the tenth time, waiting for Evie to respond to her text. She’s not late persay, but Mal is eager to put her plan in motion. She’s fairly sure Jay is completely oblivious, despite her odd request for him to brush out his hair and brush his teeth, griping and asking why Mal suddenty cared about his appearance. Luckily, he had bought her whining that she didn’t want to be embarassed being seen with him and just shrugged it off, while still adding a jab about her being too much of a princess if that’s what she’s worrying about as he went about with his primping.
“What’s this movie about anyway? I swear if this is some lame ass romance I’m leaving you here to fend for yourself,” Jay sneers, grinding his teeth at the thought.
Before Mal can answer, her phone alerts to the text message she’s been waiting for. She smiles disarmingly as she reads, peaking Jay’s curiosity. He tries to lean over to see but she quickly clicks off her screen, standing up and looking out to the back of the parking lot.
“Well I won’t be alone now if you want to leave, but I have a feeling you won’t,” she says, chuckling to herself. Evie comes into view, waving excitedly when she sees Mal, with Carlos in tow just behind her.
A glance over her shoulder is more than rewarding, as Mal is greeted with the reaction she had expected - Jay is frozen, openly staring at the boy with Evie, his mouth agape.
“Keep yourself in check, lover boy,” she mumbles, tipping her shoulder up to tap Jay’s mouth shut. He stands fully upright, shaking himself out of his stupor as he glares at his sister.
“You did NOT tell me Carlos was coming,” he hissed, his hands frantically smoothing his hair and clothing, trying his best to look presentable.
“Would you have come if I did? Or would you have chickened out, like yesterday?”
Mal keeps her eyes trained on Jay as he stares back, stunned. Finally, he lets his shoulders slump in defeat, prompting a tiny snort from Mal as she turns to face him, patting his shoulder reassuringly.
“Forget it. The point is, you have your shot now. DON’T blow it,” she insists, pointing insistently in Jay’s face.
Speechless, Jay merely nods, turning back to face the approaching siblings.
Carlos’ face mirrors Jay’s, surprise in his eyes, mouth open. But Evie shares a knowing look with Mal, and the fact that her best friend has already figured out her idea has Mal absolutely glowing. No one will ever get her like Evie does.
“Hi Mal! Jay!” Evie greets them warmly, grabbing Carlos’ arm to pull him in front of her. “Jay, you remember my brother, Carlos, right?”
Carlos’ lips turn up into a weak, awkward smile as he lifts his gaze to meet Jay’s. Jay smiles back, gulping loudly as he tries to respond.
“Of course. Hi, Carlos. It’s good to see you again,” Jay replies sweetly, tipping his head to the boy.
“Y-you too. Jay.” Carlos voice is barely above a whisper, and for the first time Mal notices that Evie’s brother seems just as flustered around Jay as Jay is around him.
Her plan might go even more smoothly than she thought.
“Alright!” Mal interjects loudly, clapping her hands together for attention. “Now that we’ve had introductions, why don’t you both join us on the blanket we laid out?” She offers, gesturing to the spot they prepared just to the side of them.
As the boys start to sit, Mal walks behind them to quickly grasp at Evie’s hand, holding her back. Evie quirks a brow, eyeing her quizzically.
“Come to think of it, I should probably run to the bathroom before the movie starts. Evie, do you need to go?” Mal’s eyes widen as she stares at her blue-haired friend, giving her a tiny wink when she turns her back to Jay and Carlos.
“Oh...oh! Yes, I do. Thanks for reminding me, Mal.” Evie turns up the wattage on her smile, stretching it so wide it almost looks like her face could break.
The boys pause in their movements, but Mal places firm hands on Jay’s shoulders to push him to the blanket, with Evie nodding to Carlos to join him. Finally seated, they glance at each other only to look away again quickly.
Mal fights back an eye roll as she watches them. These boys are so ridiculous.
“We’ll be back in a minute,” she assures, grabbing Evie by the hand again. Before walking away, she quickly dips her head behind her brother.
“Compliment him.” she whispers in his ear, picking up her pace to walk away as soon as she’s sure Jay hears her. She practically takes off, forced to pull Evie along to keep up.
When she’s sure the boys aren’t watching them, Mal lunges behind a row of garbages cans, yanking Evie down with a tiny yelp beside her.
“Ready to watch some terrible flirting?” Mal jokes. She leans close to the bluenette beauty, until their foreheads are almost touching. The girl grins toothily at her, using her free hand to point to a space between the cans with a perfect view of the blanket.
Mal comes in close, her breath hitching as she presses her cheek against Evie’s to get a better view through the small opening, letting her eyes shut for a second to revel in the touch of her friend’s petal soft skin. They stand perfectly still, breath shallow as they strain to listen.
“You know, you could have told me your plan,” Evie tells her, tone breathy. “It’s not like I wouldn’t have helped if I’d known. You know I hate being left in the dark.”
“Now where’s the fun in that?” Mal giggles, turning a side eye to the girl pressed against her. “Besides, I love how fast you always figure things out, Eves. You’re an evil genius, too, just like me. You know that?”
Mal can feel Evie’s face warming against hers, and Mal feels a warmth of her own blooming in her chest, just from knowing that her words had made the bluenette blush.
She gives Evie’s hand a squeeze, tilting her head through their makeshift peephole. “Shhhh, now. We need to hear this. Knowing my brother, there’s a good chance this could still be a shit show, even after all my help.”
-----
Jay nervously picks at the hem of his jeans, keeping his eyes trained on the patch of blue blanket between his legs. He steals glances of the boy next to him every few seconds, seeing how Carlos focuses on the people setting up the movie screen, and that he’s fisting the blankets in his hands as he pays close attention, almost examining the equipment as if he was trying to figure out how it works.
A few minutes have passed in complete silence, and Jay feels restless with each passing second. The command from his sister repeats in his head, and as much as he tries to push it down, he knows it’s his best shot to get things moving forward with Carlos.
But before he can think of something to say, he startles, turning to face Carlos as hears the boy loudly clear his throat.
“S-so...” Carlos starts, slowly. “Were you, excited to see this movie, too? Is that why you came?”
Jay’s sure Mal didn’t even tell him what they were seeing, but simply nods in agreement, too eager to finally be engaging in conversation with Carlos. He looks up, meeting the boy’s gaze, and he feels his mouth instantly go dry. He’s met with beautiful, deep pools of dark chocolate brown, brows furrowed only slightly as Carlos waits for Jay to talk.
“Uh, yeah man. I can’t wait.” He stares, waiting for Carlos’ reaction.
The boy’s face is blank for a moment, as Jay holds his breath. Finally, his lips curl into a hint of a half smile.
“Really? That’s great. I actually thought I might be the only guy on the isle that geeked out over rom coms.”
Shit.
Jay almost winces, but forces himself to hold his composure. Carlos was smiling, after all. Smiling at him. That was most important.
“Uhhhh. Yeah, man. They’re great. I love them.”
A weird snorting noise in the distance jolts him for a moment. He’d recognize that unpolished outburst anywhere. Mal.
A quick scan around him shows no sign of an irritating little sibling, but the reminder of her presence is enough set him back on task.
He pauses to think, wiping a few beads of sweat off his forehead as he does, and then brushing away a few strands of hair that are sticking to his face.
“Man, it’s hot,” he comments, glancing at Carlos.
The boys nods, his curls bouncing softly in the movement.
“I wish I had your hair,” Jay says wistfully. He reaches a hand up, slowly, grazing a few ringlets with his fingertips. “You always look good.”
The sudden silence is deafening, and Jay’s hand tenses at the sight of Carlos’ widened eyes and parted lips.
“I mean, your hair! It always looks good. Mine is a sweaty, sticky mess right now, see?” He gestures frantically, pulling his fingers through some sweaty pieces. “Do you, like...curl it? Yourself?”
Carlos tilts his head, looking like a lost puppy. “Um, it just. Curls this way. I don’t do, anything?”
“Right! Of course not,” Jay relents, biting his lip. “Well, it still looks good. It...suits you. Like, really.”
Carlos can’t hide the smile the spreads across his face, brightened with a pink flush that blooms almost immediately. Jay visibly relaxes when he sees that, heaving a sigh of release. His eyes never leave Carlos’ as he returns the smile, his teeth flashing prominently as his grin spreads even wider.
“Thank Evil,” Mal breathes, squeezing Evie’s hand. “That was touch and go for a minute there. Good thing my brother finally got his head out of his ass.”
Evie giggles as she stands, pulling Mal up with her. “Oh stop it. That was cute. Carlos likes him, I can tell. There’s definitely something there.”
“Yeah, I see it,” Mal agrees, swinging Evie’s hand casually as they walk back. “That’s why i had to help that dumbass brother of mine get his shit together. Who knows if he’d ever have made a move without my help.”
“Who knew you were such a good sister?” Evie teases, quirking a smile at her friend.
“Um, I did, of course,” Mal snidely remarks, chuckling at Evie. “Not gonna lie though, I might have my own, personal reasons, too.” She stops a few feet short of the boys, holding Evie back with her.
“And once I can get my lame brother to seal the deal, I just might let you in on them, Eves.”

The vks finally arrived at the closest shore facing the isle, Mal taking a deep breath and lifting her goggles to look at Celia. They didn’t want to draw too much attention to themselves on the isle so they would get off and on with the spell that Mal had used years back. “you remember what I said?” Mal asked Celia, Celia nodded, slightly unsure this would even work but Mal was sure Celia could use magic, and therefore cast the spell.
Celia took a deep breath and face the isle, picturing all five motor-bikes in her head as she spoke the incantation “Noble steeds/proud and fair, you shall take us/anywhere” the bikes all glowed a reddish-purple, matching Celia’s hair, and Mal nodded, knowing the spell had worked.
Mal put her goggles back down and revved the engine of her bike, leading the others onto the ocean. Hadie looked down at the water in awe as the bikes easily rode on the water as if it was solid ground, he whistled then looked back up to see the isle coming closer and closer. Celia laughed, feeling giddy as it sunk in, she used her magic, she had done it! She couldn’t wait to tell her dad!
After a few minutes the bikes passed through the barrier, both Hadie and Celia winced at the feeling of magical being forced back underneath their skin, and soon they rolled onto land, Mal taking a few turns towards Faciliers arcade that rested right next to curl up and dye. They passed through the wharf marketplace and through the alleyway where their old hideout was (which had been emptied and claimed by someone else)
Mal turned one last corner and parked her bike right in front of the place that used to be Hades Greek restaurant (he used to be there a lot, but at one point he stopped coming completely and left it in the hands of his hires and son, who ‘sold’ it and it was turned into a regular shop with furniture and decor)
The others parked next to Mal and turned off their bikes, taking off their helmets and leaving them on the seats as (y/n), Hadie, and Celia continued to carry theirs. Mal brought a lock of her hair in front of her and sighed, nope, still brown. She had a small hope that the barrier would reverse the spell that Audrey had cast but Mal supposed she was out of luck on that one. “Come on” Mal muttered, Celia leading the way to the arcade as the vks and (y/n) followed her to the arcade door.
Celia placed her helmet onto the fortune reading table for safekeeping (I mean, who would dare steal from the daughter of the shadow man?) (y/n) and Hadie doing the same, and walked up to a multicolored door with the words ‘Do Not Disturb’ in French painted on it.
Celia grinned at the vks and turned back to the door, excited to show off the arcade. She made a few quick beats with her fist, dancing as someone knocked back in a different beat. She did it once more and bounced in excitement as the door unlocked and slid open, the bouncer inside stepping aside as Celia gestured for everyone to follow her. (y/n), Mal, and Evie shared a proud grin and followed after her, Carlos and Jay looking around as they hadn’t been to the arcade in years, and the surrounding area had changed since the last time they were there.
Celia rushed through the entrance, gasping in delight as she saw the back of her father's head, she practically jumped down the steps and grinned widely as her father turned and smiled. “Hey!” he turned and threw his cane to one of his workers who caught it and turned back to a card reading table. Facilier turned back to his daughter and held his arms out “there she is!”
“Daddy~!!” Celia squealed as she ran towards him and slammed into his arms, laughing as he lifted her into the air and set her down on his other side. The two engaged in a little dance that had obviously been done time and time again, created years ago and they had decided to keep it up. Mal didn’t stop the smile from blooming on her face, while they were on a time crunch and the worlds impending doom was on its way, it warmed her heart to see good parents on the isle, it was rare to see one of the adults not seer at their kids, it was a wonder to see them be fully affectionate.
Plus Facilier had always been one of those adults the kids went to if they needed help, he was “nice” like that. Facilier tapped his cheek, expecting a kiss from Celia but the girl cheekily tapped his hat instead and started to run, squealing with laughter as he caught her and pulled her into his side. Mal and Evie grinned at each other, their delight at seeing the father-daughter relationship slightly dimmed by their lack of one.
The vks loosely followed the two Facilier’s as (y/n) explored the arcade, whistling a bit as she looked around at the extravagant displays and games surrounding her. She had heard Harry and Gil talk about this place before but she had never had the opportunity to visit it when it was active.
Celia grinned as her dad leaned down next to her ear “so what kinda hustle do you got goin’ on with them, shiny people?” Celia just grinned and pulled a small purple velvet drawstring bag out of her shoulder bag, plopping it in his hand and kipping over to the wall of signs next to her dad’s card reading table and grabbing the skull-shaped key then looping it around her neck.
Her father looked at her with pride as he held the piles of coins in his hands, all from the Auradon people she had read cards for in the last day. “Cher” her dad whispered, pride clear in his voice as he carefully poured the coins back into the pouch and tossed it back to his daughter “look at my little girl go, already conning half of Auradon~” Celia just grinned, perking up as Carlos called everyone over to a static tv that was connected to the Auradon network.
The reporter on screen stood at Auradon prep, next to the statue of Adam, as the camera followed him as he walked “Alerts of a sleeping spell keep coming in as it spreads across Auradon, sources say the daughter of Aurora, Audrey, is responsible for this spell; were trying to discover who is responsible for these vicious lies, and which villain has perpetrated this evil” the man stopped and held his finger up to his earpiece, his face paling in fear “it’s what? it's heading this way, cut it-cut it! we have to run!” the screen cut to static and the vks looked at each other in terror.
“We have to go get the ember” Mal rushed out, Hadie leading the way as you waited for Facilier to release his daughter's shoulder as he stared at the screen in fear for his daughter.
“I’ll protect her,” you said with a smile, holding out your hand to the girl as Facilier nodded and let Celia go.
“You better” he muttered, crossing his arms as you and Celia raced out after the others.
-
“Rookie mistake” Carlos grumbled as he spotted some of Umas crew members on top of their bikes as they rounded the corner of the alleyway. You sighed, looking over Jay’s shoulder to see Jonas on Jay’s bike, grinning wildly.
“Get off my bike!” Jay yelled out, leaping forward in an attempt to grab Jonas’ jacket as the pirate laughed. Jay just missed as Jonas and his four other pirate cohorts all raced off on your bikes, and you could recognize Bonnie on top of yours. “Over the roofs!” Jay yelled out, Evie and Carlos nodding and running off as Jay turned to you “cut them off” you looked back at Mal and nodded, climbing the buildings and running after the sound of the bike engines.
Celia went to follow but Hadie and Mal grabbed her arms, preventing her from joining the case “Hey, hey hey! They got this, we need to get the ember ASAP” Mal stated, nodding as Celia sighed in slight disappointment.
“Good timing too” Hadie muttered, checking his watch “right about his nap time” Mal raised her brow but followed her fellow vks as they quickly walked towards the other end of the isle where the mines were.
‘he takes naps?’ Mal thought, looking behind her and seeing you dropping down into an alleyway a few buildings away. She turned back to Hadie and Celia then quickly caught up to them as they had walked faster than she thought they would.
-
After a few minutes of (almost running) rushed walking, the three vks arrived at the mines, guarded by an intimidating metal gate with Hades symbol, made out of wooden planks and old tires, on the front, with multiple keep out and warning signs plastered around. “Hey” Mal interrupted Celia, who was unlocking the door. Hadie and Celia stopped to look at her confused, Hadie halfway wondering if she was backing out of the plan “how big is that dog?” Mal nodded that sign behind Celia and she turned, Celia sighed and shook her head as Hadie snorted at a joke that wasn’t there.
“You’ll see” Celia muttered as Hadie snorted again, pulling the gate open and leading the two girls inside. Celia gasped quietly and turned back on Mal, holding her finger up to her lips “Okay, you have to stay quiet it echoes like crazy in here” even as Celia whispered it reverberated against the old rocky walls of the isle mines. Mal nodded and glanced around at the multiple record speakers that hung off the walls, following Celia as Hadie stood by the railway that led towards his father's lair.
Mal jumped at the sudden sound of multiple dogs barking and grabbed onto Hadie, who laughed quietly and pointed at the speakers “not here” Hadie whispered, waving Celia off the bike turned-makeshift minecart hybrid “too loud, if we’re stealing the ember, we need to be quiet as possible, we walk. It’s not too far” Mal nodded and kept her grip on Hadie’s arm, tensing up each time the guardian of the underworld's barks echoed around her. Hadie glanced at her but said nothing, letting her use him as a crutch as the three vks walked down the dark and damp tunnels of the abandoned mineshafts.
Hadie took a few twists and turns, apparently a shortcut to his room (which was also a back way towards Hades main area of his lair), and soon the three stepped out into a pretty large room with a queen-sized bed with a dark grey and blue bedspread. Hadie grabbed a bass from his wall and carried it, nodding out towards the curtain door “an excuse, case he wakes up as we walk out” Hadie whispered, Celia went first as they stepped through the curtain.
Mal stopped as her eyes locked onto the back of the god of the underworld's head, his hair was a dim dark blue, the side effect of his hair unable to light ablaze. Mal sighed in relief as the god snored loudly…very loudly, it reminded Mal of when Ben’s dad had fallen asleep during a late-night hangout back when Mal was still in school at Auradon prep.
As the three crept closer, the sounds of dogs barking started to loop, and Mal looked around confused before Hadie pointed at an old record player, it had hit a scratch on the disc and was now looping on a singular bark. Mal breathed a quiet sigh of relief, that meant no dog to be fed to if Hades caught them.
Mal walked heel to toe as she snuck over to Hades, while Hadie and Celia slowly made their way around the other way. Just as Mal got close, Celia got fed up with the record and lifted the needle, sending a loud screeching noise through the cave. Mal and Hadie glared at Celia, as the rash decision had made Hades wake up. He lifted his head slightly and look directly at his son and Celia “What are you doing here?” he grumbled in a tired tone, yawning a bit as Hadie raised his bass in the air.
“Forgot my bass” Hadie simply said as Celia took out a can of corn and a packaged blue rock candy.
“I noticed, you were out, of canned corn” she tossed the candy and can to the god and he caught them with one hand. Mal by then had lifted the ember out of the dish it was sitting in and was bringing it to her chest, screaming lightly as Hades suddenly grabbed her hand, stopping her from crouching out of sight.
Hades turned to look at her, his yellow eyes were hidden behind a pair of sunglasses. Mal harshly swallowed and released the ember as he took it from her, moving to rest his head on his arm. He and Mal stared at each other for a moment, Hadie and Celia standing awkwardly near the old wooden stairs that lead back up to the tunnels. “um-“ Mal started in a meek voice, watching his eyes as he looked at her newly brown hair and eyes “-can I have that?” her usual confidence was gone, she was powerless and in front of a god who could pick her up with one hand and chuck her across the room even without his powers.
Hades raised his brow and turned his head to look at the ember, which was black as coal, in his hand. Then he looked back at her. “And why should I give it to you?” Hades asked coolly, taking off his glasses and tossing them to the side, leaning back in his minecart turned chair, lofting his boots up next to Mal’s face. “uh-“ Mal clearly hadn't expected him to ask that, she had expected him to get angry and throw her out of his lair. Quick mal, come up with an excuse or something! “I need it?”…nice one Mal, top-notch, he’ll for sure give you the ember now.
Hades rolled his eyes and looked to Hadie, who just shrugged. “Auradon is in danger and we need the ember” Hadie answered dryly, watching Mal carefully as she stepped in front of Hades and held out her hand, his father's yellow eyes staring down at Mal carelessly.
“Please?” Mal asked in a much firmer tone, her eyes looking directly into Hades. Hades huffed and lifted up the ember, waving the black gem around a bit.
“You’re only half Hades, the ember won't do everything for you that it does for me” Mal clicked her jaw and gestured to Hadie, not really paying attention to what Hades had just said.
“Hadie’s gonna be the one to use it anyway, I just wanted-to…” Mal’s brain caught up to the words that had just come out of Hades mouth and she looked back up at him with wide eyes, Celia’s jaw had dropped as she realized what he had meant “IM HALF WHAT?!” now Hades looked confused, looking at Mal as if she was crazy.
“you-you didn’t know?” Hades has lost his confidence, his brow raising in confusion, then he looked to Hadie “she doesn’t know?”
Hadie just pinched his brow and sat down on the wooden steps, ignoring his father and (newly announced) half-sister as the Mal started to squabble about her mother and Hades. “fuckin-what?!” Mal screeched, running her hands through her hair and starting to pace around the lair, Celia looking concerned as Mal tugged at her brown locks “you?! My dad?! That’s-that’s not right?! My mom said he was human, a full-on human!? It can’t be you it-“ Mal started to hyperventilate and Hades took her hands, bringing her closer to him and looking into her eyes. “Kid, calm down, you’re having a panic attack, breathe with me, okay?” Mal knew she had to listen or she would pass out so she followed Hades lead. When she got control of her breath again, she pushed him away, wiping away the tears that had gathered in her eyes “she never told you?”
“I guess fucking not” Mal assumed he meant her mother never telling her about her true father “and-also HOW?!” Hades just gave her a knowing look “NOT LIKE THAT-“ Mal did NOT want to think about her mother and Hades doing the do “-I mean-how did” Mal gestured to herself then Hades “this! Happen?? I thought you were loyal to Persephone!?” “Mom knows about this by the way” Hadie interrupted, motioning between his father and sister “and she’s pissed the fuck off, so whenever you see her again dad, you have millennia of making up to do” Hades winced at the thought of his wife being very mad at him, but it wasn’t unwarranted, but he had another matter to attend to.
Hades sighed and turned back to Mal, rubbing his stubble “I got drunk, very drunk, I don’t remember much but I woke up next to your mother and eleven months later you were dropped off for me to babysit” Mal’s jaw dropped in shock and slight disgust “I didn’t know about you until you were already two months old, and then I took care of you for about three months before your mother took you back, something about an heir of darkness.” Hades waved off the notion of Maleficent abandoning Mal on his doorstep and continued on as Mal gawked at him. “and before you ask-I do know I am really your dad because your hair was blueish-purple when she dropped you off and it was almost completely blue when she took you away, I think your magic reacted to whomever you were around the most-“ Mal shook her head, she didn’t have time for this!
“Okay, whatever, I don’t care. I don’t have time for all this” Mal waved her hands around in frustration(noticeably in the same way Hades did but no one commented on it) and held out her hand again “but! If you wanna make up for being a lousy dad” Hades frowned at that “gimme the ember” he stared down at her for a moment before gently placing the ember into Mal's palm, Mal closing her hand around it and nodding “thank you, it’ll be returned after we save Auradon”
“It won’t work for you completely, you are still only half Hades” Hades warned as Mal pocketed the ember into her thigh bag, raising his brow as she glared up at him. “So what? I’m not the one using it, dad” Mal hissed the last word, as if it was poison in her mouth. She didn’t fully believe him, after all, if her mother had lied to her for years about her father, who's to say he wasn’t lying to her now?
Mal pushed past him and up the steps, Celia quickly following her as Hadie set down his bass and looked back at his dad.
“Did she really never tell her?” Hades asked  quietly, looking up at the stairs after Mal, an upset look on his face. “all this time, almost 19 years of standing by, she didn’t even know?”
Hadie sighed and crossed his arms “You really think Maleficent would have told Mal about her true parentage? If Mal had known you were her dad, she would have never listened to Maleficent, she manipulated Mal…I have to go, kingdom to save n all” Hades nodded, watching his son walk out after his daughter and sighing. So much for respecting Mal’s wishes.
-
Celia looked up at Mal, pressing her lips together as the awkward silence pierced the air. “I guess that’s why he was always asking about you” Celia murmured, stopping in front of the front gate as Mal paused, looking directly at the ground.
Mal then shook her head, lifting it up to stare straight ahead “let's go, we’re wasting time” Mal continued forward towards the main area of the isle again, Hadie and Celia giving each other a look before following after her. Mal was right, there were more important things to get to than her parentage.

Ben was back at his desk, talking on his phone with one of the captains of the royal guard “No. no, I want the royal guard handing out gas masks!” Ben said in a stressed tone, tapping through his tablet as more reports of the sleeping spell came through. Ben growled a bit as the captain on the other side muttered something about the spell “Well not everyone's asleep!” Ben hung up and tossed his phone on his desk, looking up and pointing at the servant standing at his door “Find out if anyone has seen Audrey, and see if she has a list of demands!” the servant nodded and turned out the door.
Ben sighed and unzipped his jacket, flopping back on his chair and running his hand through his hair as he tried to calm down. Why had this happened? What had happened with Audrey that caused Maleficent to possess her?
Mal had texted him earlier that the spell used the victim's emotions against them, so whoever had taken the scepter was feeling very intense emotions, enough for her mother to feed on that. So what had Audrey been feeling when Maleficent took control?
Ben had a sinking feeling it had to do with one very bitter grandmother.
“just one~” Ben yelped and stood from his chair as he spun around, eyes widening as he locked into Audrey’s eyes, which were swimming with green. “I demand my life back”
Ben looked behind him at his door, mentally cursing as all his guards had left to go help the people. “I have a proposition for you~” he turned back to Audrey and watched as he pointed behind her towards the rest of the kingdom “I’ll wake everybody up right now, under one, itty bitty condition” she stepped closer to him, her eyes flashing green. “make me queen”
‘queen?’ Ben thought confused, why would Audrey want to be queen? Why would Maleficent want to be queen? Then Ben remembered when he overheard one of Leah’s bullshit rants about Audrey’s right to the crown. Audrey was just doing exactly what her grandmother wanted, just in a twisted way…that’s why Leah had been turned to stone that morning.
And Maleficent was just going along with Audrey’s ‘desires’ so she wouldn’t be detected by the young princess, she was waiting for the opportune moment to take over completely. “Audrey” Ben started softly, taking her hand and bringing it towards him. Audrey looked confused, her eyes flickering with magenta and green. “someone spelled you, you have to let me help you-“Audrey's eyes turned fully green and she ripped away from Ben, and Ben knew Maleficent was in control now.
“Pathetic” Audrey hissed in a cold tone, her face morphing into a sneer as the scepter glowed bright green in her hand “so kind, so trusting, you won't even strike your precious little friend down just when you had the chance” Ben glared at Maleficent, hand drawing behind him to the hidden dagger that (y/n) had stashed a couple of months ago. “just like your mother…” Audrey’s eyes turned bright green and then she grinned cruelly “but so afraid of being like your father~” Ben froze in fear, realizing what she was talking about. No, she wouldn’t “let's see how you like being a beast~” Ben raced forward in an attempt to snatch the scepter from Audrey but he was blown back as it flashed green and his body was overtaken in a green flash.
Ben screamed out in pain, but It only came out as a monstrous roar, his teeth becoming fangs as his nails pushed out and sharpened, fur erupting from his entire body and everything just became so loud.
He let out another painful roar, Audrey cackling in the background as the scepter flashed magenta and Ben swore he heard someone screaming then everything went silent.
Ben blacked out from the pain and when he woke up a few moments later, Audrey was gone, the only thing left was a few wisps of smoke. Ben crawled over to his balcony and looked down, a whimper slipping through his new snout as he saw many of the servants now turned to stone. Ben turned on his heels and ran through the castle, looking for anybody who could help him, his claws ripped and scratched at the walls as he raced through them, he ended up at the hall of armor and ripped open the doors, claws digging into the frame and Ben ended up with a large splinter in his palm.
He roared in pain again and ran out the other side of the hall, crashing through the doors and running into the forest, he couldn’t let anybody see him like this, he had to find a way to turn back into a human before he hurt someone.

Mal, Hadie, and Celia walked back into the arcade, Celia racing towards her dad as Mal walked over to her friends who were playing some odd combo of foosball and pool. “M!” Evie called, relieved her friend was okay as Mal trotted over to her and wrapped her arms around Evie’s arm. Evie grabbed Mal’s shoulder with her free hand and looked at her “do you have it?” Mal nodded and dug into her thigh bag, taking out the black as coal ember. “Good, let's get off this rock”
Mal nodded, turning to jay to ask him where the bikes were but he interrupted her “how’d you get it? I assume he either gave to Hadie or you snatched it?” Mal winced at the reminder of how she had gotten the ember.
Welp, no better time to tell them then now, eh? “uh, yeah about that” Mal muttered, looking down at the ember in her hand “uh, he just-gave it to me?” it sounded more like a question than anything else. Mal was unsure if Hades really was her dad, but she would spill details about the entire thing later, right now the short and sweet answer was best.
“He just” Carlos started, furrowing his brows in confusion and glancing to Hadie “gave it to you? And not Hadie?”
“Yeah well, there's a reason behind it which is-guess whomst the fuckiest my dad is?” Mal laughed, giving her friends a tilted smile as they looked at her strangely, why bring up her dad at a time like this?
“Oh no fucking way” it hit Carlos first, his eyes widening “no fucking way but you said-“ Mal laughed again, sounding strangled.
“I know! I know! I thought so too! But I guess it's just another thing my mother lied to me about” Jay looked a little miffed at not understanding what Carlos and Mal were talking about, Evie looking lost as well “Remember how I said my dad was human? For the last 19 fucking years?” Jay and Evie nodded, (y/n) cleaning up the table behind them before freezing as realization dawned on her.
“Oh, no fucking way” (y/n) groaned, looking to Mal with an exasperated look “your dad is-that means-what the actual fuck” Evie finally had enough and turned to Mal with her brow raised.
“Okay spill before I stab you”
“Apparently, my dad is fucking Hades” Mal hissed quietly, leaning closer to Jay and Evie as their eyes went wide in shock “Yep, my mother lied, again, about my dad. Told me he was human to keep me in check and shit.”
“I-“ Jay stuttered, unable to get anything out as his mouth opened and closed. “are you sure?” At this Mal shook her head, no she wasn’t sure, but this was helping them in their favor, Hades had given Mal the ember willingly under the pretense she was his kid.
“no im not, and I don’t want to know how or why, but we can do all this processing shit later when Auradon or Audrey aren’t in danger, let’s go. You got our bikes back, right?” Mal asked the boys, wincing as (y/n) glared darkly. She would take that as a no then.
“Nope, they got away” Carlos muttered, crossing his arms.
“The only way back to Auradon is the bridge” Mal sighed, smiling as Evie clicked her heels on the dusty arcade floor.
“Glad I wore my comfortable heels then” Jay grabbed Evie's arm before the two could leave.
“Yeah, we need the remote, and I left it at the house” Mal and Evie shared a horrified look, what were they going to do? Auradon was in danger and they were stuck on the isle with no way off.
“I lifted it off of you” the group turned to Celia, who was holding the golden remote to the barrier “I thought it would be useful and it is” Evie smiled, stepping towards Celia and leaning on a support beam.
“Good job” Celia smiled and Jay took the remote, pressing his lips together in an impressed smirk.
“Sweet” Celia turned to hug her father one last time as everyone grabbed their bags and started to make their way out of the arcade, she kissed him on the cheek and ran after (y/n), meeting (y/n)’s stride as she patted Celia’s back.
“Good job kid” Celia beamed again, happy her thieving skills were being appreciated. “also Mal!” Mal turned her head to show she was listening “After this shit is over, we're coming back here and getting those damn bikes back, that thing is too damn expensive to lose to a fucking isle goon” Mal snorted and nodded.
“Noted” honestly Mal wanted her bike back anyway, Carlos had spent several months making and modifying their bikes to fit them perfectly, she wasn’t about to let them be stripped.
-
The group of vks, and one dimension traveling girl, finally arrived at the bridge, Jay taking out the remote and pressing the bottom button opening the barrier. “Come on” Mal mumbled, nodding her head towards the opening. The others followed her lead and stepped over the barrier line.
Just as the ember crossed over the line, it ignited in a strong flash of light and heat, Mal felt fire shoot up her hand holding the ember and cover her entire body. Mal gasped in slight pain as the flash of energy flooded through her and filled her with a brand-new feeling of power and magic she had never felt before.
Mal let out the shuddering breath she had been holding and shook her head, the fire that had been drained by Audrey had been returned at full force…but it felt…different from her normal fire. Mal opened her eyes and looked down at her hands, gasping as she realized her entire outfit had changed. Gone were the purples and greens of her maleficent-themed outfit, replaced by the cool blues and dark greys of Hades, blue flames licking up her jacket-turned-vest and boots.
…guess Hades wasn’t lying then, Mal frowned, looking at herself a bit more as she realized she had transformed into ‘the daughter of Hades’. She had no other explanation for why the ember had done what it did otherwise.
“Holy shit” Carlos muttered, grabbing Mal's arm to stabilize her as she wobbled on her feet slightly “What happened?”
“I don’t know” Mal muttered slightly grumpy as she twisted the ember in her eyes, it had ignited in a strong blue “It might have to do something with the ‘Hades being my dad’ thing? Hadie?” Mal looked to Hadie, frowning as he looked just as confused as she felt. “shit, okay, um-ya know what? We’re gonna ignore this for now and figure out what the fuck happened when all this shit is over with okay? Okay.” Evie picked up a lock of Mal's hair, bringing it in front of Mal's face “Evie-my hairs blue….my hair is fucking blue it was brown two seconds ago and now it's blue”
“To be fair your hair was purple three hours ago, and it's also purple at the top.” Jay supplied, pulling back a bit as Mal whirled around to glare at him. “uh-yellow eyes too” Mal scrunched her nose at Jay and huffed.
“Not helping Jay” Mal hissed, she turned back towards Auradon and closed her eyes “Okay, we-let’s just go, we’re wasting-HEY!” just as Mal was handing the ember to Hadie, Evie lifted her arm to push a lock of hair behind her ear and bumped Mal's hand, sending the ember flying. “no!” Mal screamed in panic, running towards the edge and about to jump for the ember when a very familiar tentacle sprung from the eater and grabbed the ember “wha-“
Uma rose from the water, looking absolutely ethereal in her golden shell crown and teal dress, her turquoise locs pulled back halfway as the rest framed her shoulders. Uma grinned and raised her arms, the tentacle holding the ember following them “drop something~?”
“It can't get wet!” Mal yelled in a pleading tone, gesturing for Uma to get onto the bridge “give it back before it goes out!” Mal could see the ember sparking and flickering in Uma’s hold. Uma just laughed and her tentacle curled around the ember, sealing it airtight between two suckers. her eyes turned to you, who was grinning down at her from the bridge.
“Uma~!” you yelled in excitement, bouncing on your heels as she gave you a little wave.
“That’s my name~” she purred, giving one last smirk to Mal then she sunk into the water, the ember still tight in her grip.
“Wait!” Mal called desperately, she couldn’t lose the ember, it was their only hope! Mal took a step back in fear as from where Uma had sunk a large tunnel of water began to rise until it burst, soaking everyone but you.
“Ah!” Mal yelled, pausing as she noticed the water starting to evaporate almost immediately, off her body, especially her hair. “I wha-“ nope, nope nope nope, not important right now. She noticed the same was happening to Hadie, and the two were the first dry out of everyone else.
Mal looked back down at the water, searching for Uma “Behind you~” Mal gasped and spun around, seeing Uma in a dark teal button-up, dark blue leather pants, and brown boots, her golden shell necklace sitting proudly on her neck.
Before anyone else could say anything, Mal spoke up, lifting her arms into the air in exasperation “Where the hell have you been?!”
Uma looked genuinely surprised that those were the words that had come out of Mal’s mouth instead of just accusing her of villainy and trying to steal the ember back “We’ve been looking for you for three fucking years!! Do you know how much Harry and Gil bugged Ben and I because you wouldn’t show your damn face?!” Mal screeched, rubbing her face in exhaustion at the reminder of when Harry and Gil had straight up annoyed her and Ben back when the search for Uma was fresh. “Do you even know you were pardoned two years ago? You could've surfaced at any point and you would have been fine!!”
“That’s what I said to-….her” you covered your mouth as Mal slowly turned to look at you with wide eyes, Uma face palming as you winced “uh-“
“…(y/n) did you harbor a criminal?” Mal asked dryly, raising her brow as you shrugged.
“Technically no, I just, brought her food n all that…I honestly have no idea where she stayed, but we had a meeting place?” Mal sighed and shook her head, turning to look back at Uma who stiffened up in a defensive stance. “Also, Ex-criminal” you stated, shrugging as Mal just gave you an exasperated look “jus’ sayin”
“Whatever, Uma, I need that” Mal held her hand out towards Uma, looking at the ember in the sea-witches hand. “to break a spell”
“Cast by maleficent, proxied by Audrey, sleeping beauty’s daughter” Carlos explained, eyes locked onto the ember in Uma’s hand.
“So-the good guys the bad guy-“ Uma furrowed her brows as she tried to figure out how Maleficent cast the spell through Audrey. “well, I might not give it back, see what happens” your smile dropped and you stepped closer to Uma, taking her shoulder.
“Uma no, Harry and Gil are still in Auradon and we need the ember to save them if anything has happened to them, neither of them answered my calls and I don’t want to risk anything” Uma just pursed her lips, looking between you and the pleading Mal, who looked more worried as time went on.
“Guarantee me, that any single villain kid that wants to, can get off the isle” Mal pressed her lips together at Uma’s demand, wanting to agree but the deal she had made with Beast prodded the back of her mind.
“I-I can’t do that” Mal stuttered, clenching her hands by her sides, watching the ember carefully as Uma rolled her eyes and walked to the edge of the bridge. “Can't do that” Uma muttered, turning and holding the ember over the water “Well how bout now?!”
“Deal!” Mal screamed desperately, not bothering to hide the panic on her face as she held her hands out towards Uma “Deal, deal! I promise every kid will come off, but please!...Please.” Uma looked at Mal carefully, looking for any deception before she relented.
“Fine” Uma muttered, sliding the ember into her jacket “but I’m keeping it, because if you think I trust you to save Auradon on your own” she laughed a bit, giving Mal a once over “Think again” Mal closed her eyes and sighed, at least the ember would be on their side.
“Okay fine, this is fine, we need to go now though, Jay!” he nodded and pressed the bridge button, the magic extending from the broken bits they were standing on towards Auradon. “let’s go, we have no time to lose!” Mal jogged forward, Evie, Jay, Carlos, Celia, and Hadie following close behind, leaving you with Uma.
“When we find the boys, I’m blaming the entire ‘hiding you for 3 years and never telling them’ thing on you, since it was your idea and I would like to stay in Harry’s good graces” you joked, booping Uma’s nose and grabbing her hand to drag her along to follow the others down the bridge.
Uma rolled her eyes and hurried her pace, realizing that things were a lot more serious than she had thought, Mal hadn't even tried to start an argument, only focused on saving Auradon.

Pairing: Jay x reader
Synopsis: Jay and (Y/N) have been friends for years. The met back on the Isle, but will their friendship evolve now that they’re in Auradon?
Word count: 2,333
Warnings: Some blood. Kind of OC, the main character has a certain hair color to fit with the story.
Leaving the Isle definitely has some perks, but it also has its negatives. All of my friends are doing things they love: Evie has more material to sew with here, and she’s incredibly smart; Mal can do magic, and it's obvious she’s trying to hide how good and dare I say nice she actually is; Carlos met Dude, and they do everything together; and Jay has Tourney, and girls chasing after him everywhere he goes. Then there’s me, I was never special on the Isle and I’m still not special in Auradon.
My father is a villain, he tried to take over a Kingdom, and technically tried to kill a queen and a princess. However, Hans was never feared by any of the other villains, and by association, neither was I.
“Are you okay (Y/N)?” Carlos asks, petting Dude. I look over to where he’s sitting on his bed and shoot him a smile. “Of course I am, why wouldn’t I be?”
“What’s going on with you and Jay then?” he asks nervously.
“Absolutely nothing,” I laugh, pushing a strand of my platinum blonde hair behind my ear.
“Everyone kind of thought you had a thing when we were on the Isle. But you guys seem like you’re avoiding each other here,” Dude barks as if he agrees with Carlos’s statement.
“We never had a thing, he’s just my best friend. You already know this Carlos,” I squint my eyes at him, before plopping down on the bed. “He saved me more than once when we were kids, and we became friends. I'm indebted to him, I literally owe him my life. We aren’t ignoring each other, he’s just busy and I’m not.”
I’m roaming the isle, my hair up in pigtails. I notice the sun going down and realize that I probably won’t make back before the sun goes down completely, like Hans demanded I do. I take a turn down a back alleyway to get back faster, but I get a weird feeling like I’m being watched.
“Well, well, well, if it isn’t little Miss. Loser,” Shan yu’s son said. He comes out of the shadows, and soon his friends join him, I’m completely surrounded.
“The weak little princess, too afraid to do anything,” one of his friends laughs.
“You don’t fit in on the Isle,” another friend joins in.
They aren’t wrong, I never steal or hurt anyone. I just don’t want to, I’ve never had the urge to. And if that makes me stand out, then so be it. I’m not going to change just so I can fit in. The name princess started a few years back, after I was caught paying for my food and not stealing. Everyone on this island seemed to come to the consensus that I acted as privileged as a princess, which painted a target on my back.
The circle of boys inch closer, cracking their knuckles. Their lips all pull up on one side showing their teeth, all have the menacing look down pact. The one behind me grabs the collar of  my leather jacket and holds me still. Shan Yu’s son readies his fist and lines it up perfectly with my nose. My face scrunches up as I tightly close my eyes and await the pain.
“Get your hands off of her,” a shout comes from the mouth of the alleyway. I open one eye and look to see who it is, Jafar’s son. He walks up to the group and grabs them all by the collars and pushes them into the ground or into a wall. Shan Yu’s son gets up and pulls his arm back, getting ready to punch Jafar’s son in the face. Jafar’s son beats him to it, and punches his jaw, before grabbing my wrist and pulling me out of the alleyway.
“Why did you do that?” I ask when I finally find words.
“A simple thanks would be nice,” he grunts.
“Thank you. But are you crazy? Do you have some kind of death wish?” my eyebrows furrow as I stare into his eyes.
“No, but you do apparently. You were going to let them just hit you,” he glares at me.
“I don’t hurt people,” I glare back.
“But you need to be able to protect yourself here, people aren’t nice here on the Isle.”
“You are,” I squint my eyes at the brown haired boy.
“Or maybe I'm tricking you,” he smirks.
“But you aren’t,” I smile as I stare into his brown eyes. His eyes give away the fact that his actions are genuine. “I’m (Y/N), by the way,” I raise my hand up to shake his like I’ve seen people do in Auradon.
“Jay,” he says as he reluctantly raises his hand to grasp mine. He recoils a little as our palms touch. “Has anyone ever told you that your cold?”
“I’ve gotten told that once or twice,” I giggle a little.
“(Y/N)?” I hear Jay call. It’s been years since the day that we met, I’ve been hanging out with him and his friends, Mal, Evie, and Carlos. Mal was a little scary at first, but the latter two welcomed me warmly. “Princess, this isn’t funny,” he calls. Jay managed to make the name that made me feel weak and like I didn’t belong into a cute nickname that makes me feel confident.
“In here,” I call quietly. I hear his boots crunch on the broken glass the closer he gets to my room.
“What happened?” he asks worriedly as soon as he sees me curled up into a corner. He drops down to his knees in front of me and grabs my hands.
“Hans,” I whimper. “I dropped his sword as I was putting it back.”
“What did he do?” he asks as he wipes away the blood on my chin that’s spilling from my split lip.
“He threw stuff at me, then he started hitting me,” I whisper.
“Well what do we have here?” Hans voice comes from the doorway, causing a whimper to escape me.
“Don’t you dare come any closer,” Jay spins around and stands before my cowering figure.
“You think you can stop me?” Hans laughs lowly.
“I know I can,” Jay laughs lightly. My eyes widen at his uncharacteristic attitude.
Hans lunges at Jay and I let out a little squeak. Fists are flying so fast that it’s hard to tell who’s winning, if people even win when it comes to this. Jay knocks Hans into a table, causing it to break under the older man's weight, before pulling me up and throwing me over his shoulder.
He runs until we arrive in the alleyway by Mal’s place. He finally sets me down and I can see the bruise forming on his chin, the gash over his eyebrow, and the slight blood leaking from his busted knuckles. I grab his hands and use the bottom of my shirt to clean his knuckles. With his free hand, his fingers ghost over the bruise that I know is forming on my cheekbone.
“He’ll never touch you again,” Jay promises. “I won’t let him.” I bury my face in his leather clad chest, I can’t seem to find the proper words to thank him. Jay shivers lightly as our bare arms brush up against each other. “You’re cold Princess,” he laughs.
“I thought you’d be used to that by now,” I tease him. “Now, lets go get you cleaned up.”
He puts his red beanie on my head as a thank you. I smile lightly as I look up at him, before leading him into Mal’s.
“Carlos, you’ll never guess what this girl tried to do-” Jay stops mid-sentence when he sees me sitting next to Carlos. “Oh (Y/N), what are you doing here?”
“We were just talking about the prince that was hitting on her,” Carlos laughs.
“What?” Jay snaps. “When?”
“It was yesterday when Mal was giving Ben the cookie,” I awkwardly pet Dude’s head.
“Who was it,” his fists clench.
“No one you need to concern yourself with,” I glare at both boys. Grabbing my jacket from the bed I head towards the door, but before I can leave Jay grabs my arm. “Let go of me!” I grab his hand and try to yank it away, but he keeps his hold.
“Princess-” Jay starts, before I cut him off.
“I’m not a little girl who needs saving anymore, Jay! I’m forever grateful for everything you did on the Isle, but I can take care of myself. I can tell a guy when I’m not interested all on my own!”
“What’s going on here?” Evie asks, walking into the boy’s dorm.
“You don’t want to know,” Carlos mumbles.
“Princess, you’re colder than normal. This can’t be healthy,” Jay looks concerned. He tries to pull me closer to him.
“I said let go of me Jay!” I finally rip my arm out of his grasp and head to the dorm I share with Mal and Evie.
Days pass, and now Jay and I are really avoiding each other. We now sit on opposite sides of the classrooms, instead of right next to each other, neither of us even bothering to look in the same direction as the other. This is the biggest fight we’ve ever had, and the longest we’ve gone without talking since we met. Fairy Godmother video calls our parents, but I don’t bother joining the other VK’s. I know Hans won’t be there, we haven’t spoken in over a year. And even before that he never really cared about me.
It’s parents day at Auradon, and Evie forced me into a dress and to go. My hair is down in its natural waves, and in a green dress that goes down to my knees, with a black sash in the middle. Mal is off meeting Ben’s parents, Evie is off doing her own thing, and the boys are eating chocolate.
“Hi,” a redheaded older lady says to me. It’s princess Anna, one of the people Hans tried to kill. Following after her is her husband Kristoff.
“Hi….” I say nervously. Why is she approaching me?
“You’re Hans’s daughter right?” she asks.
“Anna,” Kristoff says sharply.
“I am, and I’m so sorry for everything he did,” I rush out. Backing up I bump into the table the boys were eating from a few moments earlier.
“Have you heard the story of Kristoff and my first daughter?” Anna asks.
“Anna!” Kristoff warns and steps closer to her.
“Uh- yes,” I grip the table cloth behind me. “We learn it on the Isle, someone kidnapped your daughter and you’ve never been able to find her. Again, I’m so sorry,” my voice wavers in fear.
“She’d be about your age, you know,” Anna takes a step closer, analyzing my face. “And Hans is the only one holding a grudge against us.”
“What are you implying?” I shiver as burst of cold hits me.
“Incredible,” Anna murmurs quietly. “She’s like Elsa. Elsa!” she runs off to find her sister, I assume.
“What?” I ask her retreating figure. I look at the ground and see the area around me covered in a thin sheet of ice. “Oh my god.”
“I’m sorry about her,” Kristoff says quietly. “She gets overly excited and carried away.
Before I can respond, Anna comes back pulling a platinum blonde haired woman behind her. That must be Queen Elsa.
“Elsa look!” Anna exclaims, pointing near my feet. “She has the same powers as you!”
“How did you do that?” Elsa asks calmly.
“It’s never happened before,” another burst of cold runs through me, I can feel the ice now covering the table behind me. “I’ve always been colder than everyone, but I’ve never made ice appear.” I can hear the panic in my voice, and the slight rise of it.
“(Y/N), are you okay?” Jay appears at my side. I let out a little sigh of relief and grab onto his arm. “What’s going on here,” he looks to the small group of adults in front of us.
“(Y/N) has powers like Elsa!” Anna says excitedly. Jay looks around for the first time and sees the ice surrounding us. I smile weakly up at him. “She has to be our lost daughter!”
“Princess?” Jay asks me confused.
“I guess that nickname has a double meaning now,” I whisper.
“And it explains why you’re always so cold,” he whispers back.
“Who’s this?” Anna cuts into our conversation.
“Anna!” both Elsa and Kristoff say exasperated.
“Oh, um, this is my best friend Jay,” I force a smile at the adults.
“It’s very nice to meet you,” Anna sticks her hand out to him.
“Uh, yeah you too,” Jay shoots me a look as he shakes her hand. “I see where (Y/N) got the greeting from,” he laughs lightly.
“I think we should leave them alone for a little,” Kristoff smiles at us, there’s a sparkle in his eyes. He grabs Anna by the hand, and pulls her away from us. Elsa follows close behind.
“So can a Princess still hang with a villain kid?” Jay grabs my hand.
“Hmmm, I don’t know. I am a prissy pink princess now, there are rules.” I laugh as he pulls me closer.
“Does the prissy pink princess mind if I kiss her?” he asks, leaning his head down. Instead of responding, I grab him by the lapels and pull him to me. Our lips meet and there’s an instant spark. I melt into his chest as he grips my waist tightly. His warmth mixes with my coolness perfectly, everything about it seems right.
“It’s about time,” Mal, Evie, and Carlos say from behind us. Jay and I break apart, I rest my forehead on his. I giggle a little as he smiles down at me.
“Ben’s parents want to play croquet with us,” Mal cuts in before we can kiss again. “Let’s go.”

Red Roses (A Harry Hook x Reader/OC)
A/N: I am so glad there are people reading and enjoying this! As long as there's someone out there who wants more of this story, I'm here to happily comply. Please let me know if there are any errors and I will fix them. I will try to update as much as possible, phew story writing is hard guys lmao. Thank you all again and I hope you stay for this journey!
Summary: Ruby Hearts, daughter of the infamous Queen of Hearts, was abandoned by her mother when she was young and forced to live with her father, the King of Hearts, in Auradon.  Harry Hook himself may be the only one who finds her madness enchanting. Will Ruby find her self falling for the rugged pirate, or will the roses bleed red?
Prologue / Chapter 1: Down the Rabbit Hole / Chapter 2
Ruby's paintbrush glided over the wallpaper, leaving red strokes in its path. A small music system played softly in the background. Even after already attending Auradon Prep for a year, her room always needed something to hide the pretty-pink-princess-ness of it underneath, and merely changing the horrendously colored bed covers were not enough. She had taken to painting over the single colored wallpaper, her first time being a large pocket-watch with elaborate patterns that no one else ever heard tick-tocking the days away.
Prince Ben himself had given Ruby the paints after having noticed her in Art 101; the mindless mutterings and frantic look in her eyes seemed to fade when a paintbrush was in her hand. She was thankful for him showing up to her dorm room that day, bottles upon bottles of paint in haul, a kind smile on his face.
However, nothing ever fully quenched the illusions she had. Some days the walls were frozen, so close to shattering, others she was drowning in red, red blood. Of course, there were good days as well: being outfitted by Evie, playing catch with Dude and Carlos, watching Mal trip over her own two feet.
The tiny King of Hearts, Ruby's father, had decided to send her to Auradon the same time the VK's arrived. He assumed that the terrible villain kids would mask the aura of 'mad' surrounding his daughter just by being from the Isle themselves. It had worked, for a time. While Jay and Carlos were kind enough to her, Evie took Ruby under her wing, making sure she was always included. Mal was a different story though; Ruby had no idea why, but one of the voices in her head told her that the daughter of Maleficent was the wrong sort for her.
Fitting in became the wrong choice halfway through her first year; no one wanted to share a dorm with the 'crazy girl'. No one dared bother her while she was attending the roses in Auradon Prep's garden in fear of having their heads offed. No one even deemed her worthy of a friend, seeing her crazy ramblings as a sort of disease, even thought most times she was perfectly sane at having conversation.
But now was the beginning of a new year, things will be different she mused to herself as she dipped her paintbrush back into the blood red paint. She hummed to herself as she did so, completely blissful in the peace of the dorm, trying oh-so hard to not remember the memories that haunted her everyday. To not realize how this red paint almost matched perfectly with the blood that dripped onto a dead lawn all those years ago.
Ruby's focus was dropped by her door suddenly slamming open and she hissed in anger when her paintbrush slipped from its course. Her hand found a pen that was among her art materials around her, and promptly turned and flung it towards the open door. She missed of course, she always does, as could be told from the multiple shallow holes in the wall near her dorm room door.
"Whoa! Calm down there, Red!" Jay exclaimed from her doorway, Carlos was there with him and he seemed unfazed as he pulled the pen out of the wall and tossed it back to Ruby.
She caught it and placed it on the floor before grabbing her small towel to dab off the smear of imperfection before it dried forever on her wall.
"Thank you for ruining my lovely painting. If paintings could cry, this one would be because you nearly destroyed it," she huffed at the boys, who still stood out of breath in her doorway.
"You're supposed to be with us and the Welcome Committee, Ruby. The new VK's are showing up today," Carlos reminded her, matter of factually.
She cursed under her breath. She totally forgot about the new kids arriving today. I wonder, are their heads too big? Or perhaps too small? What a shame if they don't have heads at all. Ruby shook her head, clearing the voices as she stood and brushed off her outfit, a simple thigh-length black dress matched with heart stockings, and stumbled to put on a pair of red heels.
"Right, yes, the new VK's. Welcoming to the committee...erm, I wasn't supposed to do anything, was I?" She asked while trying to make her hair look somewhat decent. Even though it was lovely, the tips of her deep black hair being a rosy red, it was a mess nearly everyday of the week.
"Nope, just show up and smile," Jay quipped at her as she closed the door, viewing the bleeding rose on her wall one last time before hurrying with the two boys outside.
The trio made it too the entrance of the school right as a black limousine pulled up. The boys led Ruby to where Evie was standing before running to find other friends.
"Hey, Ruby," Evie greeted her, ever present smile on her face.
"Hey, Evie," Ruby responded, cautiously looking around to see if her somewhat dunce of a father came to see the new kids.
Evie looked at the girl and gestured to her face. "You've got a bit of paint there," the blue haired girl said, just as the doors to the limo opened.
"Oh, um...thanks," Ruby replied and used the back of her hand to wipe the paint away, only to succeed in smearing it over her cheek.
"Welcome to Auradon!" Fairy Godmother's voice carried over the cheering crowd, effectively ending the fanfare as well. "Allow me to introduce you to King Ben and his girlfriend Mal!"
Ruby glanced and caught sight of said couple, glaring when she noticed Mal looking at her. Too small head. No hat would ever fit her, one of the voices in Ruby's head commented. She shook out her thoughts and gasped in surprise when Evie pulled her forward. She missed nearly the entire conversation that was happening and had zero idea why Evie decided to announce her presence.
"Fairy Godmother," Evie said to the overly cheerful woman, "Even though I would absolutely adore showing our newest guests around, I think it would be an even BETTER idea to let Ruby do it!" She exclaimed, nearly bouncing with happiness at her grand scheme.
"What- no, Evie it's fine I gotta-" Before Ruby could finish her sentence Fairy Godmother cut her off.
"OH what a wonderful idea!! Ruby, these are our new students, Uma, Gil, and Harry! I do hope you all make great friends! Now, if you'll excuse us, class is waiting! The doors of wisdom are never shut!"
And with that Fairy Godmother gestured for everyone back to the school, but of course Audrey would never leave without having a few words first. As the brunette passed by Ruby she sneered "Of course, let the mad girl give the villains a tour, what a perfect match!"
Ruby paid her no mind, instead wondering what it would be like if she offed with her-
Ben gave Ruby a pat on the shoulder, silencing her vicious thoughts and gave her a good luck smile before walking with Mal back into the school. Ruby huffed and prepared herself and turned around to greet her newest friends.
She stared for only a second, muttering under her breath about their seemingly normal sized heads before she gave a smile and spread out her arms.
"Well, welcome to Boradon, where the princes are far from charming and the only color the people know of is 'pretty princess pink.'"
A dark skinned girl with light blue hair snorted at Ruby's introduction, while the boys laughed, giving a nod to the girl. "Amazing, someone who lives here who hates this place as much as we do. I'm Uma, daughter of Ursula," she gave her hand out for a shake (which Ruby accepted) and gestured to the two boys next to her. "This is Gil, and Harry."
Ruby smiled at the two boys, some forlorn memory tugging at the back of her mind, telling her she knew this girl, her thoughts turning at the name 'Harry'.
Harry's eyes raked over her before taking a few steps towards her, "Well well well," he said, his accent pulling memories out from Ruby's head. "It seems ye may have made a bit of a mess, lass," he said, licking his thumb and wiping off the smeared paint from Ruby's cheek. One of her eyebrows raised in question, though she definitely felt the heat rising to her face.
"Um..."
Uma rolled her eyes and gave a smack to the back of Harry's head, earning a shout of protest from the boy. Still, Ruby couldn't help but feel she stared into those same blue eyes before...
"Let's get this tour thing started!" Gil exclaimed, oblivious to the somewhat awkward/intimate moment
"Right, uh, this way," Ruby once again shook away her confusion, ignoring the way the sun reflected off her red heels and making it seem as though they were bleeding. She turned and led them into the school.
"Now, normally I'd have to tell you the history of our esteemed school, but honestly it's just of bunch of nonsense. Some king went 'wow I would be super cool if I made a school for royalty' and so he did a got a commemorative statue because of it." Ruby talked as she led the group into the main foyer.
"Sounds about right," Uma commented, spinning in a slow circle as she took in the school.
"Woah!" Ruby turned and saw Gil gently petting a potted plant, "What is this? It's so green!"
"That's, uh, that's a plant," Ruby answered him, slightly amused by his reaction to said plant. "There's a whole garden out the back way. It's a lot more interesting than showing you the useless classrooms in here."
Uma and Harry didn't get a chance to respond as Gil took off, a smile on his face. Ruby stayed where she was and called out to him, "Wrong way!"
Once outside, Gil ran off into the bushes of flowers, Harry running to catch up to the boy. Uma stayed behind, walking the pathway with Ruby.
"I never got to thank you," the dark-skinned girl spoke.
"Thank...me?" Ruby questioned, before her mind flooded with memories of a small crying girl that she never got to console. "Oh, um."
Uma looked at her, her face sincere, "No really, thank you. No one ever...No one's ever tried to be there for me when I'm not feeling myself. And that day was, uh, particularly bad," she confessed.
"Oh...well, you're welcome. I never...had friends when I was little, and I just wanted to be nice I guess. The flowers never wanted me to have friends, they were not so nice," Ruby told her.
"Right," Uma nodded, slightly confused but thankful nonetheless. "I'm glad to see you out of that hellhole, too. I mean, the Isle was bad but your mother..I can't even imagine."
Ruby let her fingers dance across the daisy's as the two girls walked. She tried to not dwell on memories of the past, of that house, that woman. "Thanks. Things are better here, I guess. The walls may freeze, and the momwraths outgrabe, but if you know where you're going then it doesn't really matter at all."
Uma was spared a response when the two caught up with Harry and Gil, ironically where the rosebushes were. Ruby's body froze when she noticed Harry gripping a rose, almost as if he were about to pluck it off the bush.
"Don't!" She yelled, running and pushing the pirate away from her beloved roses. After checking the rose was okay, she turned to Harry, her finger pointing at him in accusation. "Don't you make the roses angry, you make them angry and broken and then they bicker nonstop and I'm the only one that has to deal with it."
"Whoa there, lass, 's just a wee flower,"Harry's hands went up into the air with a slight smirk on his face, one hand gripping a metal hook. A hook, how had Ruby not noticed it before. Her eyes widened at the glinting metal, the face of a younger boy clouding her mind.
"Just, don't touch my roses," She glared at him once more, Uma giving him an 'I told you so' look, before turning and leading them away from the gardens and to the tourney field.
The team was outside at practice when the small group arrived, and Ruby noticed Jay and Carlos waving to get her attention. The two boys ran to her, smelling like wet dog yet smiling like idiots.
"Hey, Red," They both greeted, out of breath.
Harry behind her scoffed. "This it? Tourney is a wee lad's game, with their little pointy sticks."
"That's because their lads are a bit wee," Ruby responded, smiling at Harry.
A weird look was shared among the others when suddenly Gil freaked out. He bent down as Dude strolled up, patting the dog happily. "What is this!!!!"
Jay and Carlos chuckled. "That's Dude, my dog," Carlos said.
"Wow," Gil said, amazed. "Dogs are cool."
"Wait 'till you see a zoo," Jay told him.
"A zoo?"
"Okay," Uma cut in, "As much as I enjoy..." she gestured to the group, "I think I'd like a bed a hell of a lot more."
"Right, well, we gotta get back to practice," Carlos nodded, running back to the team.
"See ya around," Jay said to Ruby (but mostly to Gil) as he followed suit.
"Back inside we go then," Ruby announced and led the trio indoors.
"Funny thing is," she said as they made it to the dorm quarters. "No one tells me a thing, so I have zero idea where your rooms are."
"'S alright," Harry answered, seemingly trying to break into one of the rooms. "We'll just pillage some for our own selves," his eyes glinted mischievously.
"That won't be necessary."
The four turned towards the voice, and Ruby was relieved to see it was only Ben.
"We already have rooms chosen out for you," he said, smiling and giving a quick wink to Ruby. "This way."
The group followed, and Ruby almost missed the way Harry's eyes glared into the back of Ben's head. Ben stopped right in front of Ruby's dorm, and opened a door right across from hers. "This will be for Harry and Gil," he stated, "And Uma, you're the next door down the hall. As much as I'd love to stay and chat, I've got a meeting to attend. It was nice to meet you all."
And with that he turned and marched back down from where they had came, leaving Ruby speechless and dumbfounded.
"Well, see ya, girl. I'm going take a well deserved nap," Uma said, smiling at Ruby before walking to her room.
Ruby opened the door to her room as Harry and Gil turned into their own. She quite literally kicked off her heels and walked to where she painting earlier that day. She let her hands gently glide over the bleeding rose, checking the paints dryness. She missed Harry sneaking in behind her, leaning on the door frame.
"Ye paint," he stated abruptly, making Ruby jump and spin towards the voice, wishing she had a pen to throw.
"Thank you, captain obvious. I do paint, what about it?" she told him, crossing her arms over her chest.
He tutted her, shaking his finger as he stepped closer to her. "Uma's the cap'n, lass. I'm 'er first mate. And, ye paint well."
Ruby became flustered and uncrossed her arms to scratch the back of her head. "Um, thanks." She suddenly pointed to the pocket watch painting, "Do you hear it, too?"
Instead of answering, Harry's hand whipped out and grabbed onto Ruby's wrist, causing her to stumble closer to him. The tip of his hook gently ran over the line of her scar, the one she tried every day to ignore.
"I know ye," he whispered, blue eyes boring into her own.
"I know you too," she whispered back, visions of the unspoken day prodding her brain
Harry opened his mouth to respond, but a knock at Ruby's open door made the two jump away from each other.
"Hey!" It was Evie, eyes sparkling with another scheme. "I'm throwing a dinner party for our newest VK's. Ruby,  you're invited too, of course!" She exclaimed.
Harry and Ruby went into the hallway where Gil and Uma were already waiting. Uma gave a questioning look to the two. Harry's eyes cleared, his regular mischievous demeanor returning.
"Finally, food! I am famished!" he announced.
Gil bounced on his heels. "Is it like a food party? I've never been to a party. And with food! This place is amazing!"
Uma rolled her eyes at the boys and Ruby let out a small giggle.
"This way!" Evie said, guiding the group down the hall. They met up with Mal and Ben, Jay and Carlos, as well as Doug and Jane. Ruby couldn't help but feel that this was going to be a very uncomfortable tea party.

Ghost

Tumblr media
You are Snow White's biological sister, you end up un the isle of the lost because The Evil Queen blackmailed you into doing some of her dirty work.
There were two times when a villain was taken of the isle.First when they had to give birth,it was no surprise that there wasn't really a hospital, much less nurses and doctors, apart from the few that could definetly not be trusted. The second when they died, their body would be taken and cremated in Aurodon.
You sighed, you couldn't take it anymore and your bestfriend didn't help at all. Most days you'd just sit around in his lair,he'd shred on the electric guitar and you'd read whatever book you managed to 'aquire' that day.Hades and you were close, though he'd never admit that,he confided in you and claimed you're the only thing that kept him clinging to his sanity.
You never told him about your plan, because he wouldn't agree. He'd say it was too risky,he'd ask what if.The mix of plants would put you into a sleep like death, but only for 4-5 hours. You let out a heavy sigh, your heart pounding in your ears. You were always a sucker for goodbyes so you decided to write a note. You encrypted it so only Hades could read it,you placed it neatly next to his ember, before leaving.Your heart ached at the thought of having to leave him behind, but you were determined to get the barrier down,no matter what it took.
TIME SKIP TO WHEN THE VK'S HAVE TO GO GET HADES'S EMBER(i'm gonna chage the order a bit Audrey will go to the enchanted lake first and then to Mal's)
Your house may have been isolated, but you made the mistake of setting up near the enchanted lake. You lifted your head up from your book, being a magic user, you could sense certain items. And this one was very, very evil. You got up making your way to the door. You exited and started down the hill.Pink smoke that was new,you focoused your vision seeing the sleeping students.'Ok this is really bad'.You couldn't see the person who might've been responsible for this, but they had no doubt used Maleficent's scepter, which meant either the spell had to be undone by the scepter or...you gulped Hades's ember.
You ran as fast as your legs could carry you,you needed to warn someone and find a way into the Isle. You saw a hunched over figure, that seemed to be trembeling and across from her someone turning away and vanishing you quickly made your way over.
"Yickes, sweet mother of Jesus"you screech jumping as soon as you see the shape Mal is in.Three other vk's come out of the house, and a younger one stands by the door.
"Did you do this?"Evie growls at me.
"I'm quite offended you'd even think that."you retort.
"Then who?"before you could open your mouth to answear Mal manages to mutter a response."It was Audrey."
"And how do we break this curse?"Evie asks, her patience running thin at Mal's tired responses. You but in.
"We're wasting precious time,we need to go to the Isle and get Hades's ember."Mal pointed to me and nodded.
You flipped you hair and then turned away, giving them a glance over your shoulder."C'mon no time to waste."
You stirred the motorcicle through the tight spaces, people screaming at us to get out of the way.You payed them no mind, they were just background noise, and finnaly turned to park.
"You're looking more like yourself."Evie  told Mal,but I cut her off before she could respond.
"Dark magic doesn't work here, believe me I'd know."you smirked at them.
"What do you mean?"confusion crossed their faces.
"I mean I expected this, but really Ev,not recognizing your own step sister, now that is cruel."Evie's face dropped.
"How did you get off the isle?"she was calm, she knew my story and that I never belonged on the isle in the first place, just like them.
"I faked my death, bribed some people, voila."Evie didn't say anything after that just pulled you into a hug."You could have visited you know?"
"Didn't know how you'd react."she let out a fractured laugh and a tear slipped down her cheek.
"I hope those are happy tears."you murmured.
The moment was shattered when you heard engines roaring to life, you turned to see pirates making off with your bikes.
You were prepared to be the leader, but Mal stole the words from your mouth.
"Evie,Carlos and Jay see if you can get our bikes back,me,Celia and.."she paused looking at me "(Y/N)" you said in a low growl "will go get the ember."
You took the lead guiding the girls towards Hades's layer.Mal was having second thoughts when she saw the Cerberus sign, you and Celia shared a look before continouing inside.
You let out a chuckle, when you laid eyes on Hades a leg over the armrest and sunglasses on his eyes. There was something so familiar about coming here you felt nostalgia creep through you.You leaned against one of the wodden pillars at the top of the stairs along with Celia and watched Mal go retrieve the ember.
She had it in her grasp and then she didn't,Hades turned to look at her.
"Hi dad."you watched Celia's face contourt into an excuse me what the fuck expression.
SKIP THE MUSIC NUMBER
Mal turned to leave and Celia followed.
"So how's Aurodon?"Hades asked plopping back down on his chair.Finnaly giving you some attention, apart from the heavy eye contact and winking that went on through the whole song.Especially the tamburine part,it reminded you of how you used to sing duets and have stupid fun.
"I missed you"you say before coming over to hug him.
"Ah,bite me."he hissed and you froze in your tracks.
"Excuse you?I couldn't take this place anymore and I had a way out,I would have told you but you wouldn't have let me leave."
He was silent, watching you with predatory eyes, you felt exposed in this intense stare down. You started bitting your lip nervously. He stood up and made his way over to you, leaving only a tight space between you two,you never broke eye contact, not even now when he was towering above you, trying to make you feel small though you had to admit it was working.
"If you bite your lip one more time,I'm going to do it for you."he growled seductively.
"Wanna bet?"you barely managed to get the words out before he crashed his lips to yours, pushing you against the closest wall. The kiss was rough both of you letting out pent up frustration and aggression towards each other. He broke away and pushed his face against your neck, sucking and biting at your skin. You let out shallow moans of pleasure.
"WHAT THE HELL!"Hades jumped off you and about 2 meteres away. The two of you looked at each other and then turned towards Mal shrugging.
"Unfinished...business?"yep thats what you'd call it,definetly.
"C'mon (y/n) we have to go."Mal said turning on her heels and leaving.
"Before you leave"Hades started"the day you left that note I realized something",he invaded your private space again staring down into your (y/e/c) eyes."I can't live without you, these past 3 months have been hell,I think I..."he flinched looking at the ground.
You took one of his hands in yours and placed your other one on his cheek, turning his gaze back to you"I love you too and I promise you after this Audrey thing is done we will be together,I don't care where as long as I am with you.I was stupid to not realize how much you meant to me."You stood up on your tip toes and placed a tender kiss to his lips before leaving after Mal.Hades lifted his hand slowly touching his lips, trying to comprehend if that just happened or his imagination was playing tricks on him.He smirked as he dropped it,now eagerly waiting for your return.
