I'm listening back to the Earl Harlan episodes and I forgot just how jarring they are.

Like imagine you were born during the industrial revolution (based on the Steam Locomotive in his baby picture) then turned 19 and stayed that way for years only to suddenly be middle-aged with a wife and kid (who looks like a decomposing version of 8y/o you) and being narrated by the man on the radio who you're pretty sure you had a crush on and graduated high school with and when he invites you into his show you learn he doesn't even know how old he is let alone you

#I'm getting emotional over earl harlan #I'm catching up on good morning night vale and just finished the homecoming episode #so then I listened to all the earl episodes and the thanksgiving one hit me hardest #like that's got to be such a lonely experience #and the man on the radio continues to speak #like they could've been something if he didn't get stuck at 19 #or maybe there's a universe where they did get together #but then again it was the industrial revolution era so it never would've worked #Cecil would age intangibly and Earl would grow old and who knows if it would've worked out #time moves differently in night vale but Cecil moves differently from that #and the miserable life of his son Roger who's lost in time and space #his wife who may or may not know him #it's a terrible existence to not know if you truly exist #so many thoughts about this man and his family #wtnv #earl harlan #wtnv tracking guide
