Hey! That’s cool! The Haunted Horseman of Hagglethorn Hall had the guest star, Davy Jones (the singer), actually cover one of the songs that was previously featured in the show! Like... I was wondering with the Sonny and Cher episode why they didn’t sing anything. I think that they’ve done other things, but weren’t they mostly known for their music careers? In any case, it is just as I had suspected! The episode is a lot better with the inclusion of the guest star who is a singer actually doing what they’re known for! WHO WOUDDA THUNK! Also the cover was pretty good to boot. I would definitely listen to it again. Especially if I could have it on an album or something.

the new scooby doo movies episodes ranked. this is prob the only other series i’ll do this for besides sdway because there’s a small amount of episodes and theyre all self-contained. most of the other series have self-contained episodes too but i feel less of a compulsion to rank them fsr. anyway
wednesday is missing (the addams family)
a good medium is rare (phyllis diller)
the dynamic scooby doo affair (batman and robin 1)
the haunted showboat (josie and the pussycats) (but points are taken off for tom sawyer’s injun joe being a villain)
the haunted carnival (dick van dyke)
the ghostly creep from the deep (the harlem globetrotters 1)
the secret of shark island (sonny and cher)
guess who’s knott coming to dinner (don knotts 1)

the frickert fracas (jonathan winters)
the mystery of haunted island (harlem globetrotters 3)
the weird winds of winona (speed buggy)
ghastly ghost town (the three stooges 1)
the ghost of bigfoot (laurel and hardy)
the phantom of the country music hall (jerry reed)
the loch ness mess (the harlem globetrotters 2)
the caped crusader caper (batman and robin 2)
the ghost of the red baron (the three stooges 2)
the spirit spooked sports show (tim conway)
the spooky fog of juneberry (don knotts 2)
the haunted candy factory (cass elliot) (woulda been ranked higher if it weren’t for all the fat jokes :/)

Cute things Shaggy did #10
-Poor sneezing boy has a straw allergy.
-Witnesses the haunted horseman behead a scarecrow and catches the head, let’s out a [”Yoinks!”] and faints.
-{”It’s probably and act they put on to give the tourists a good scare.} [”Well I’ve got news for you, it works”]
-Makes a few wild accusations about a man who is currently standing behind him.
-Spends a few happy moments swimming around in the moat, not a care in the world.
-[”Ghost can do anything!”]
-(”Do you realize what this means?”} [”Yeah, somewhere down here there’s a barefoot horse.”]
-Pulled a lovely, grumpy face as the gang teased him about his fear of ghosts.”
All of these came from The New Scooby-Doo Movies: The Haunted Horseman of Hagglethorn Hall

Trip report from The New Scooby-Doo Movies:
Most of these are bad! Either bad as Scooby-Doo episodes (because they don't feature any real mystery solving or interesting villains), or bad as crossovers (because they don't feature the guest starts actually doing the things they're known for), and usually both!
This series really suffers from a lack of musical chase sequences and elaborate trap setups. It also really loves to have undercover cops who were already investigating the villains. You get a sense that a lot of the time the mystery would have been solved even if Mystery Inc. hadn't shown up, which is... weird.
Here are my personal highlight episodes, in no particular order:
1. The Haunted Horseman of Hagglethorn Hall (with Davy Jones)
The gang goes sightseeing at a castle which happens to be the ancestral home of Davy Jones from The Monkees. But the castle is being haunted not only by a phantom knight on horseback, but a moat monster! This episode rules. Having only a single guest star allows them to spend the majority of the episode actually solving a mystery, which let me say again, involves a ghost knight charging around this castle on a ghost horse. Davy Jones himself is great too - he's introduced attempting to dress up as another knight in order to try and counter-frighten the actual ghost. At one point he tries to sing to calm down the moat monster, leading into this series' only musical chase scene.
2. Guess Who's Knott Coming To Dinner (with Don Knotts)
This episode basically asks 'what if the guest star was the antagonist?' and it's great. When the Scooby gang wanders into the manor of Captain Moody for directions, they find that the Captain is missing and his disappearance is being investigated by detective Homer Pipsqueak (played by Don Knotts), who mistakes Mystery Inc for the culprits. He tries to scare them into confessing by dressing up as the ghost of Captain Moody, and for a solid half of the episode it's just the kids vs. Don Knotts in a battle of wits. It does eventually turn out that there are other ghosts about and they team up to catch them. It also deserves special mention for being the first time they ever do the running back and forth between doors in a hallway scene.
3. The Ghost of Bigfoot (with Laurel and Hardy)
On a ski trip to a lodge in Vermont, the gang run into Laurel and Hardy, who are hoping to pick up work as bellboys. Laurel and Hardy work surprisingly well as guest stars given that the actual duo had been dead for over ten years by this point. Stan and Ollie's particular brand of slapstick comedy mixed with occasional witticisms and snippy remarks feels right at home in Scooby-Doo. The classic "here's another nice mess" exchange is one I could just as easily imagine coming from Shaggy and Scooby. Also, the antagonist is a Bigfoot ghost.
4. The Spirited Spooked Shorts Show (with Tim Conway)
This almost feels like a regular episode of Scooby-Doo that happens to feature comedian Tim Conway. The gang visits Velma's old high school, where they discover that Tim Conway is working as a coach as method acting for an upcoming role. However, all the athletes have fled as the stadium is being haunted by the ghost of a famous athlete, and the school will lose its funding if they're forced to cancel the upcoming sports event! Not only does this episode feature an actual mystery with multiple suspects and clues, but the monster of the week is given a backstory that justifies his abilities - as an athlete, the ghost of Fireball McPhan is both fast and strong. This is also one of the first times we see them play on the idea that Shaggy is a great athlete because of all the running he does when scared.
5. The Haunted Showboat (with Josie and the Pussycats)
Normally, the more guest stars present in an episode, the less I like it, but there's something about Josie and the Pussycats that really works for me here, even over the other Hanna-Barbera crossovers. Maybe I just like the added element of snark that Alexandria provides. Either way, this is another episode that provides an actual mystery with multiple suspects. Alexander has gotten the Pussycats caught up in another of his get-rich-quick schemes, playing a gig on an old rundown showboat that of course turns out to be haunted, when the Scooby gang runs into them by coincidence. Now they've not only got to work together to fix up the boat, but capture the ghosts so that the show can go on! My biggest complaint is that the Pussycats never actually play a song here, despite being, you know, a band.
Some honorable mentions
The Haunted Carnival (with Dick Van Dyke) has some great comedy, probably one of the funniest episodes of this show. Wednesday is Missing is less 'the gang meets the Addams family' and more 'the gang explores the Addams family house', and unsurprisingly the Scooby gang exploring a haunted house makes for a good time. Sandy Duncan's Jekyll and Hyde and The Secret of Shark Island are episodes I wouldn't describe as particularly good or bad, but are probably worth watching as both Sandy Duncan and Cher came back for Guess Who?

For fun, here are some jobs that the Scooby Gang have had over the course of these different serises when they aren’t just snooping around and breaking and entering into wherever they please. This list will be updated as I go through the series. I also am speculating on whether the meddling kids were paid or not for their services because I am honestly very curious how much money these kids have! And I don’t think that they ask for money for solving these mysteries.
Dog walker (Shaggy) - possibly paid (Decoy for a Dognapper)
Background actors - likely unpaid (Never Ape an Ape Man)
Museum volunteers - likely unpaid (Scooby-Doo and a Mummy Too)
Housekeepers - most likely paid (Wednesday Is Missing)
Background actors (again) - possibly paid (Sandy Duncan’s Jekyll and Hyde)
(Dubiously) Air traffic controllers (Fred and Daphne) - unpaid (The Ghost of the Red Baron)
Tourist Trap Employees (at a ‘haunted’ castle, selling tickets and souvenirs, advertising, etc.) - probably paid (The Haunted Horseman of Hagglethorn Hall)
Exterminators - paid (The Exterminator)
Entire movie production staff - hopefully paid (The Exterminator)
Carnival owners and employees - continual pay (The Haunted Carnival)
Construction workers (Shaggy and Fred) - paid (High Rise Hair Raiser)
Honory police dog (Scooby-Doo) - unpaid unless pizza counts as pay (High Rise Hair Raiser)
Bodyguards for a dog actor (all + Scooby-Dum) - possibly paid (The Chiller Diller Movie Thriller)
Lifeguard (summer job), storekeeper’s assistant (part-time), construction laborer (summer job) (Shaggy) - paid (”Help Wanted” Part 1: Resume: A Foot in the Door)
Police dog (Scooby-Doo) - paid ("Help Wanted" Part 2: Interviewing and Applications)

New Scooby Movies 13-14
Episode 13: The Haunted Horseman of Hagglethorn Hall
Guest Star(s): Davy Jones
Monster: Haunted Horseman
Interests: Okay, first off, love the episode name. Secondly, Davy Jones got around. Like I remember him guest staring in The Brady Bunch, Sabrina the an Witch, even Hey Arnold!. Thirdly, I never knew he was a member of the Monkees. Gang is off to visit a Sottish castle that was brought over brick by brick (Similar to the episode A Gaggle of Galloping Ghosts (also a great title) were a castle was moved brick by brick from Transylvania) . Scooby eat a whole chicken, much to the group’s dismay as it was all of their lunch. Shaggy sneeze at straw, he might be allergic according to what he says, though this wasn’t an issue before. A giant frog scares Scooby, and the gang doesn’t belive there was a giant frog. Fred makes a sexist remark when Velma and Daphne dare show compassion for someone who feel down some stairs while in armor. Velma recognizes Davy Jones. Davy Jones made a set of armor out of tin cans to try to scare away the horseman. Fred has a three year old nephew at the time of this episode, so that means he has at least one sibling. Davy Jones says Scooby is a very unusual looking animal, the closest anyone has come to questioning Scooby. Fred says Scooby is part terrier and part terrified, Scooby takes offense to this. Question is, is Scooby part terrier or was it simply brought up for the word play? Jones is here because his uncle was the one to bring the castle over. Davy Jones kidnaps Scooby and Shaggy. Velma suggests they split up to look for clues, and Fred assigns himself with Scooby and Shaggy. I think this is the first time he hasn’t gone with Daphne in this situation? Scooby eats like 15 fish. There is a cave under the castle; Davy Jones remarks, “Under the castle all this time,” even though the castle was torn down and moved within his uncle’s life. Also like.. there is  stairway down to it. Is that stone staircase part of the original castle, or did whoever rebuilt it was like, “Yeah this will be cool”? Daphne remembers what stalagmites are. Velma calls bats icky creatures :( Velma tells Davy Jones to sing to the giant frog. ... he is singing one of the chase songs from Scooby-Doo Where Are You season 2. ... and I actually don’t hate it here because it makes sense. Like it still doesn’t fit anything, but why would it? It is just some guy singing a song. A trap might have been set up? It is very unclear if it was or if the villain was just really clumsy for no reason. So the villains were trying to scary tourists away from the castle, but since they can’t turn the villains over to the police because of family honor or some nonsense, they force them to continue haunting the castle to attract tourists?
Episode 14: The Phantom of the County Music Hall
Guest Star(s): Jerry Reed
Monster: The Phantom (In name only as we only ever see a living statue of a viking and Davy Crockett)
Interests: No clue who Jerry Reed is, but after looking at wikipedia I think I have heard a couple of his songs. Jerry Reed invites the gang to see his show. This episode is taking place on May 2nd... with a country music singer... Neo, if you are reading this, hi. Shaggy has a double hero sandwich, which he shares with Scooby, but before Shaggy can eat they are dive bombed by an owl and scared away. Jerry Reed sings what I think is a chase song from Where Are You to, I guess, try to get the kids to find him. Nearly ten minutes in and still haven’t seen Jerry Reed in the episode, as he has been kidnapped; longest it has taken for a guest star to show up, I think. Fred and Daphne share a pepperoni pizza. Shaggy and Scooby get a sausage, anchovies, pepperoni, with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream pizza. Velma either doesn’t get pizza or she is also sharing the normal pizza. A bank is robbed of two million dollars and Shaggy questions Scooby if he knows how many pizzas that could buy. Velma is seen eating the normal pepperoni pizza. Shaggy then asks Velma how many that would be, at a $1.50 each. For a second Fred and Daphne look disgusted that Velma was able to do basic math, but they are disgusted with Shaggy for thinking about food while Reed is in trouble.. despite themselves sitting around eating a pizza too?  Reed sings the same song again for the same reason.. very nice of the bad guys not to gag him after the first time (which they did hear). About twenty minutes in, we finally see Jerry Reed. Shaggy once took xylophone lessons, Scooby gives a meme worthy look of doubt. Fred knows mores code. Velma comes up with a trap. Velma asks for a volunteer for bait, but when Fred and Reed volunteer she says they are needed for the trap to work and that just leaves Shaggy and Scooby. Shaggy points out Daphne hasn’t volunteer, Velma sexistly replies “A girl can’t do it” Trap works.
