#see the issue is i feel like that isnt the main problem with kabuto here lmao#I've been gone for so long but ahem. as a kabuto scholar-#i feel like kabuto's main issue is that he was forced into this position by literally every outside force around him#the leaf village tried to kill him. he had no choice but to stay with orochimaru. after orochimaru died he had -nowhere to go-#but at this point in the story kishimoto doesn't want to acknowledge the problems with ninja society that led kabuto here#and that's why this explanation falls so flat to me#the most kabuto gets is itachi saying ''well it wasn't all his fault'' but not elaborating on why#and itachi is the one that is seen as in the right for making the decision to kill his entire clan in the name of upholding the status quo#so kishimoto can't outright blame kabuto's problems on the leaf village. so instead some reasons are thrown out here#that genuinely make no sense to me#and itachi claiming kabuto reminds him of himself also doesn't make much sense to me#because itachi always came across to me as incredibly sure of himself. always knew who he was and what he needed to do#which is... the opposite of kabuto#and itachi's explanation doesn't make it make sense to me.#kabuto had an amazing arc and this little summary from itachi here just ignores all of it to make up something entirely different#just in my own opinion at least.#naruto#kabuto#kabuto yakushi#mangacap#everykabuto#fourth shinobi world war: climax#chapter 587

The Woman on Ice ft. Obito Uchiha
Tumblr media
Obito Uchiha resided in the outskirts of Konoha. For several years, the man chose to keep his presence out of the village he once lived in.
Now, to many of the villagers, this decision was smart and it made everyone comfortable.
Not a single soul inside of the Hidden Leaf could even look Obito in the eyes. Many had hatred and discomfort for the man who caused chaos and destruction to occur over the village. He was also responsible for the deaths of many great shinobi, including the Fourth Hokage.
When the Fourth Great Ninja War ended, there was a lot of distress as to what the village should do with someone like Obito. The people expressed that they weren’t exactly the most comfortable with somebody like him wandering the streets freely. He was a criminal, he could repeat those offenses and possibly cause even more damage than before. The man was considered to be a “threat” to everyone around him, and that he couldn’t be trusted.
Kakashi, being the hokage, decided that he didn’t want his childhood friend to meet his demise. Despite the uproar from the townspeople, he stuck with that decision to have Obito live a quiet life in the forest near the village. Nobody was allowed to be around that area unless authorized by Kakashi himself, and only he knew that location.
Kakashi was well aware that certain shinobi or villagers could hunt down Obito to kill him, so he put in a few precautions. There were several Anbu Black Ops stationed around the forest to prevent anyone from slipping in. It also gave Kakashi eyes on Obito, so, if something suspicious was taking place, he could take care of it.
Obito was extremely relieved when he found out he was going to live, but the idea of being closed off from others made his once warm heart feel cold. The only person he could make contact with was Kakashi, and that was it. It was just him and his isolated cabin in the forest.
At first, adjusting to this new life was hard. Obito had always been a social person. He loved people, and he was an extroverted person prior to all of the events in his life. He knew those days of interaction were now gone, and he was forced to stay locked up inside of a cabin for the rest of his days.
Occasionally, Kakashi would come by to chat with him, but those days were rare. Kakashi was hokage, and he didn’t have all the time in the world to come and talk to his war criminal childhood friend. Obito was lucky that anybody wanted to speak to him.
Being alone for as long as he has, Obito had a lot of time to think about what he’s done. The guilt from his actions constantly plagued him. It kept him awake at night, and he struggled to get a good nights rest. There were days where he questioned why a man like him was left alive. He felt as if he deserved death. He was responsible for many, so why should he get to live?
The thing that haunted him the most was the faces of the villagers who saw him for the first time after the war. The pure disgust and hatred their faces displayed was like a punch in the gut. He could hear the whispers, the mothers hiding their children, he truly felt like a monster.
There was also backlash from the other shinobi living in the village. They practically scolded Kakashi for his decision to keep him alive. Most of them disagreed, and they tried convincing Kakashi to think about the choice a little more thoroughly. In the end, Kakashi dismissed them and said his decision was final.
Obito knew those men were right. How could he keep someone like him alive? He should have died during that war. He didn’t deserve to live a quiet life while there are others suffering from the death of their loved ones; deaths that he caused.
As the months passed, Obito hardly left his cabin unless absolutely necessary. He didn’t like speaking with other people. In fact, he found it difficult to even interact with others. It took so much energy from him, and he pretty much lost any social skills he used to have. The only person he was comfortable speaking with was Kakashi, and that was it.
Sometimes the Anbu could come to speak with him. They usually questioned what he was up to, or if he was in need of anything. Obito hated those conversations, and he often became very grouchy whenever they stayed for too long. All he wanted was to wallow in his guilt, alone.
The days eventually grew shorter. The once long sunny days were now cloudy and cold. The sun hardly coming out, leaving a dreary feeling in the forest. It also opened the doors for sorrowful thoughts. Obito disliked winter, it made him irritable and he could hardly handle his emotions. He felt worse than he already did.
Those winter days felt like they lasted forever, but it was only the beginning.
-
The sun basking through the curtains made Obito look up from the spot he was sitting in. It was the first time he had seen the sun in weeks, and he was a bit surprised. The winter had been cold and long, so seeing the sun felt like a small bit of relief.
He hated how cold his cabin could get sometimes. Though the dark oak wood was thick, the cracks often let the chilly winter breeze slip inside. The only thing that would warm his cabin was the small fire place near the window. It was annoying though, because he had to leave to go and grab firewood.
The other annoying part of that was dealing with the damn Anbu Black Ops. Whenever Obito left his cabin, they’d always trail behind him like he was some kind of jailed inmate. Though, Obito could understand the men and their concerns.
With the sun being out, Obito figured he’d go and take a nice stroll through the forest. Although he hated having to leave the confines of his cabin, he liked being in nature. The calmness of the breeze and the smell of fresh air really put his bad thoughts at ease. He started doing it after he had a really bad episode, and since then it’s really helped him.
Standing up, Obito stretched out his muscles, causing a few of his joints to crack from sitting in his bed for a while. He figured he’d go on a small walk, because he didn’t want to attract attention from the Anbu. Any suspicious activity could cause everything to change for Obito, and he’d rather remain under the radar than in the sights of everyone.
He grabbed his jet-black coat off of the hanger which hung against his wall. The Uchiha crest was stitched into the material. He briefly remembered when Kakashi brought it for him a couple weeks before it got bitter cold outside.
The warmth of the jacket enveloped his body once he zipped it up. Obito turned to head towards his front door. He could feel the cool air from behind it as he placed his hand on the metal door knob. He silently hoped there wasn’t any ice. There was an occasion where he almost slid and he came close to hitting the ground, but he was lucky enough to stop it before he actually did some major damage.
Opening the front door, his eyes squinted from the bright rays of the sun. It was a beautiful day. The bright blue sky was cloudless, and he could hear the sound of birds tweeting in the distance. It had been a while since there was a day this perfect. He thought to himself that he could maybe spend a little longer outside than usual.
He shut the door behind him, stepping onto the dirt path that led into multiple directions. Obito had been in almost every direction possible. He wondered where to go that day.
As he walked down the path, he turned to the right and began to head east. The light breeze caused the cool air to nip at his cheeks and nose. It wasn’t too chilly, but it was enough for him to place his hands into his pockets to prevent them from getting too cold. The sun also helped him in staying warm, considering the black fabric of his jacket absorbed the sunlight.
His walk was quite pleasant. There wasn’t any distracting noise, the weather was nice, it was just Obito and his thoughts. He enjoyed the peace he had sometimes.
Obito stepped down a path that led to a lake that was near his cabin. He often came to it during the summer for a swim, or to watch the calm waters. Believe it or not, but he liked to come there during the night to think about the things going on in his life. He always loved the way the moonlight would sparkle on the water.
He stepped on a few pieces of now broken ice shards that laid on the ground beneath his feet. He knew he was getting close, because there was an increase in the amount of ice on the ground. The air also grew colder and crisp. It was always colder near the lake, and that’s one of the reasons why he liked coming to it during the summer. If it was too hot, then he’d stay by the lake until it cooled down outside.
His ears suddenly perked when he heard a sound coming from the right side. He knew once he turned the corner, the lake would be right there. The sound he heard sounded like scratching. Almost like someone was taking a blade and scratching at the surface of something. He hadn’t heard a sound like that before, and it made him feel defensive. Was somebody following him?
At first, Obito wondered if it was one of the Anbu trailing him. They usually followed him whenever he left the cabin, but he wasn’t sure. Why would someone from the Anbu be making such noises? Obito learned from a young age that the Anbu were skilled ninja that are extremely hard to see with the naked eye. They’re stealthy and sneaky, so why make their position known?
The other thought that crossed his mind was what if somebody had snuck into the forest to find him? Obito knew many people wanted him dead. There were even a few villagers caught one night trying to sneak into his cabin. What if that’s what’s happening?
The sound suddenly stopped for a couple of seconds. Obito furrowed his eyebrows, looking around the area before him to see if someone was hiding in the trees. Instinctively, his sharingan activated, the crimson color taking over his once dark eyeball.
There was definitely a presence nearby, and it was coming directly from the lake.
Obito walked in the direction of the lake. He kept himself hidden just in case the person was trying to get to him. He was skilled, probably more skilled than most shinobi, so he knew what he was doing.
One thing that Obito was always told was to never engage with people who are trying to pursue him. Kakashi warned him of that multiple times, and, for a while, Obito followed suit in that. The Anbu usually took care of any unwanted guests, but Obito was by himself. He didn’t sense any of the Anbu, so he had to take care of this if he had to. He didn’t care about the consequences.
Obito ran behind a tree. It stood directly in front of the now frozen body of water. The sunlight beamed over the ice covered lake, causing it to be brighter than it actually was. It was hard to see, but with his sharingan, Obito could see what was going on.
That same scratching noise started playing again.
Obito knew it was a person. It couldn’t have been an animal making those kinds of noises. He could practically sense the persons movements. He just wasn’t sure on how to approach the situation. Another thing he was wondering was why wasn’t this person detected? The Anbu can sense anybody coming in, so why wasn’t the person taken out yet? Nobody was allowed in or out except Kakashi.
He decided to shift around so he was now crouching behind a shrub. The leaves hid him so he wouldn’t be seen by whoever was out on the lake. Obito knew how to keep himself hidden, so he was prepared to disappear if he had to.
Obito squinted through the openings between the leaves. He could see somebody on the ice. He was right, it was a person, but they were doing something weird on the frozen lake.
The scratching noise he was hearing was from someone gliding against the ice. Obito noticed the person was wearing these odd looking shoes on their feet. They covered the base of their feet, but on the sole there was some kind of sharp object carving against the ice. They also moved incredibly fast, and it was hard for Obito to keep his eyes on them.
Was it some kind of ritual? Were they signaling for someone? He didn’t know what to do.
Obito’s eyes grew slightly wide when he finally saw the persons face. They were clearly a female. They were wearing a tight body suit which was the color of jade. She also wore no bottoms, so her legs were exposed to the outside. Obito wondered how someone like you was not freezing.
He practically jumped when he saw you jump into the air and land perfectly fine on the ice. You were so confident with your movements. He couldn’t detect a single flaw with the way you moved. You were also on ice. Obito could barely keep himself up whenever he used to try and walk on it, but you did it with such ease.
You also didn’t have a chakra signature, which meant you weren’t a shinobi. Obito wondered how the hell you did that without falling.
Meanwhile, you were skating against the ice before you.
You were beyond ecstatic to have been able to find a quiet place to practice your moves. You had spent a long time training yourself to make it to this competition, and you were so excited to finally live it. Living your dreams as a pro figure skater was all you wanted.
So, you decided to practice as much as you could. You snuck away from your teammates and went to find a lake to practice on. You ended up stumbling upon this one after searching for a while. It was perfect, it had the space, the ice was thick enough, and it was a great place for you to focus.
The reason why you were this far from home was because you had a figure skating competition in the Hidden Leaf Village. You had heard many stories about the figure skaters there, and you were ready to show them what you were all about. It also gave you the chance to possibly gain a spot on the team if you tried hard enough, so you wanted to do your absolute best.
Pausing in your movements, you took a second to recover from the huge amount of moving you just did. It was only the middle of the day, so you had to get enough training as possible in before the competition which was in two days.
You took a deep breath before moving your feet against the ice again. This time you wanted to work on your twirls. You did them fairly well, but you figured you’d put in the work for that aspect too. Everything needed to be perfect for the competition.
As you moved, you stuck out your right leg to get yourself ready to spin. The ice covered your blade, and some of it touched your calves. It was cold, but you didn’t care. You had been used to the chilly weather since you were a child.
You were about to get into position to spin, but your movements came to a halt when you heard the sound of a branch snap.
Panicking, you tried to stop your legs, but, unfortunately, you ended up losing your balance and hitting the ice. You also felt the sudden ache of your ankle taking over you, which caused you to hiss in pain. You faced worse injuries, but this really hurt. Your bottom also felt sore from hitting the ice really hard.
You tried to lift yourself, but your ankle was attacked with pain. You couldn’t get yourself up at all, and panic began to set in.
You were out here by yourself, and there probably wasn’t a single person out there for miles.
Behind the bush, Obito had watched you hit the ground. He felt like genuine shit because he was the reason why you fell. He had accidentally moved, and he stepped on a tree branch near his foot. The fall you took looked like it hurt, and you weren’t getting up either. He wasn’t sure what to do.
He could help you, but he wasn’t sure what might happen with the Anbu. He also risked looking like a creep, and he didn’t want to make it seem like he was watching you for some weird perv reasons.
You weren’t exactly his problem. He could easily walk away and leave you there, but something was holding him back from leaving. You were clearly injured, what if someone from the Anbu arrived and thought he hurt you? He already had a bad enough reputation, leaving you there would cause more harm than good. He also would want someone to do the same for him.
Obito let out air through his mouth before standing up, revealing himself. You weren’t that far on the ice. He could easily get to you, and bring you to safety.
You pressed your cold fingertips against your now sore ankle. The muscles were swelling, and you were clearly hurt. This was devastating for you. Your competition was in two days, and being hurt would automatically disqualify you from the show. Fuck, you were so pissed at yourself right now. You shouldn’t have gone out by yourself.
Your head snapped towards the sound of the ice cracking near the edge of the lake. Your eyes landed on someone, more specifically, a man standing before you. He looked like he was approaching you, and he seemed hesitant.
You wondered if he was watching you this entire time. Was he some kind of bandit or something? You didn’t know these woods very well, and you thought it was empty. You were practically helpless sitting there on the ice like that. You also didn’t have much to defend yourself with, unless you beat him to death with your ice skates.
“Who are you? What are you doing here?” you swallowed thickly after you spoke. The man before you paused in his movements once your voice reached his ears. You were really hoping you wouldn’t die today.
Obito wasn’t sure how to make himself not seem like a threat. He didn’t want to hurt you. If anything, he wanted to help you out of this situation.
“I’m not going to hurt you! I promise..” he called back, “I have some medical supplies back in my cabin if you’d like to come with me!”
Your eyes narrowed at him. You didn’t know what to do. For one, he could be a genuine man who wants to help you. Maybe he was concerned and he didn’t want to harm you. You had met a few people like that before, and you often reminded yourself to never think pessimistically about people who are offering to help you.
But, there was the possibility that this man was planning to kill you. You were a woman alone by herself in the forest. It didn’t seem like there was anyone around for miles, so he could easily discard your body and that’d be lights out for you. Either of the choices you had were difficult, and you had to make a decision fast.
You shifted around on the ice, causing you to hiss in pain again. “How do I know you’re not going to kill me?!” you chewed on the inside of your cheek from the anxiety you were having.
Obito couldn’t exactly tell you that he could kill you if he really wanted to. He was extremely skilled as a shinobi. If he really wanted to do something bad, he would have made the ice crack and let you drown or freeze in the chilly water. He didn’t have a bad bone in his body for someone he didn’t know.
He sighed, the breath from his mouth fading into smoke. “You’re a complete stranger, I should be asking you why you’re in the woods that I live in. I could have easily killed you for trespassing, but I didn’t. That’s not the kind of person I am,” he looked at you with sincerity coming from his voice. Deep down, he hoped that you’d believe that. It wasn’t like he had much time, because the Anbu could come looking at any moment.
You started to shiver on the freezing ice. The wind was also starting to pick up, and you knew you couldn’t get out of this situation. You were also shocked to find out that he lived in these woods. They were so secluded and empty. It made you wonder why someone would live so far from civilization.
Feeling as if you had no choice, you turned your body to face him. “Okay! Just.. come! My ankle hurts really bad!” you motioned for him to come closer.
Obito was relieved to hear that you were okay with him helping you, but he was also pretty nervous. He felt as if you were a piece of glass. He had to be careful with you, because breaking you would be really bad. He also forgot how to act whenever women came around, so there was that factor.
He pushed away all of those thoughts, and began to make his way towards you. The ice was kind of slippery. It made him question once again how you were able to glide yourself without an issue.
Luckily for him, he had his chakra to help him maintain balance.
Once in front of you, he reached out for your hand. You seemed slightly hesitant, but you reached for him anyway. The warmth of your hand made Obito’s face turn slightly pink. Despite being out in the cold, you felt like a warm blanket. He found that to be quite fascinating.
“Ouch..” you whimpered as he pulled you to your feet. You hopped on your ankle to avoid feeling any pain. You were really hoping it was just a sprain and not a break.
Obito placed his hand on your waist, holding you up so you didn’t fall. He was surprised at how smooth your body suit was. It hugged your body nicely, and it showed off every single one of your curves. He hadn’t seen anything like it before.
“Let me carry you.. the pain will be worse if you walk,” he said, “May I?”
You looked up at him, nodding your head. “Yes, thank you,” you then averted your eyes down at the ice. You felt really embarrassed if you were being honest. This was the first time in a long time that a man was touching you like he was.
A small yelp erupted from your throat as he lifted you off the ground. He held you bridal style, and began to walk towards the edge of the lake. You were surprised at how strong he was. You didn’t expect it at all, but you weren’t complaining. Some people would have just made you walk.
As he walked off the ice, he started to make his way to this dirt path. You vaguely recalled seeing one of those same paths on your way to the lake. You didn’t know there were that many around this area.
“So, um..” he broke the silence between you both, “What’s your name?”
You shifted around in his arms, looking at the leaves below you. “(Y/N).. what about you?” you looked up for a brief moment, taking in the sight of his features.
“It’s Obito,” he replied, “We’re close to my cabin, so we won’t go very far,”
You nodded your head, choosing to not say anything else. You were honestly feeling really awkward at the moment. Sure, you knew his name, but it wasn’t like you knew anything about him. He was a complete stranger. You knew absolutely nothing about this man.
God, you were really hoping you weren’t going to die when you got to his cabin.
Your eyes went to his face. You didn’t really take in his features at first, but you studied them. He looked a little older than you did. He had these scars that lined the left side of his cheeks, and jet-black spiked hair. He also wore a jacket which had a crest on the front of it. It looked like the Uchiha symbol. You had heard so much about their clan from your parents, and you never thought you’d meet one.
But, why was an Uchiha living out in the woods all on his own? Did he hate his life or something?
You didn’t even notice that the two of you were outside his cabin until you heard the sound of a door opening. Your eyes went to look at the dark wood. It looked a little small, but it was enough for one person. He also kept the place nice and clean.
Goosebumps flared on your skin from the warmth wrapping around your body. You were, in fact, only wearing a bodysuit in the middle of winter.
Obito placed you down softly on the chocolate brown couch near the window. You were relieved once you were finally on your bottom. At least you didn’t have to stand, because your ankle was killing you at this point.
“I’ll go grab some first aid,” he stood up, disappearing down a small corridor.
You took a second to take in your surroundings. Nothing seemed suspicious about the place, and it seemed like it was just him. There was a small table with two chairs near the corner of the room, and beside it was a small kitchen. The only light source was from a few candles which sat on the counters. It was cozy, but it also felt lonely.
Leaning against the armrest of the couch, you looked outside the window. Daylight was slipping from your fingers, and fast. You didn’t know how you’d get back to your teammates. The walk from this place to the hotel was pretty far away, and you couldn’t make that journey on your own.
You tensed when you saw Obito appear in the room again. He held a white box in his hand. It looked like he was in a rush too.
He came beside you, sitting down on the edge of the couch so he could assess your aching ankle.
He cleared his throat, looking over at you. “Do you want to take off your shoes..?” he asked, “I need to make sure your whole foot isn’t messed up,”
You stared at him for a brief couple of seconds before nodding your head. “Yeah! Sure..” you reached downward to untie the laces of your skates. You then pulled them off of your feet, exposing your entire foot to him.
Luckily, it didn’t seem like your feet were bad. The only bad part was that your left ankle was slightly swollen, and there was a purple pattern forming on it. It was bruised, but it didn’t seem like it was broken.
Obito placed his cool fingers against your ankle, which caused you to flinch. He halted in his movements in case you were uncomfortable or in pain.
“S-Sorry.. I was just checking if the bone was broken,” he placed the white box on his lap, opening to find an ice pack as well as some pain medication. Kakashi gave it to him in case he ever needed it.
You smiled softly, “No, it’s okay, I appreciate you helping me,”
He looked up at you as he pulled out the ice pack. “It’s not a problem..” he said, “But I have a question,”
You shifted on the couch to get into a more comfortable position. “Go ahead,” you looked at him with a genuine expression.
Obito was surprised at how pretty you were. Your smile kind of cute, but he couldn’t think of things like that. You were just some random girl who he stumbled upon. You didn’t even know who he was, and he really wasn’t going to get into a “get to know you” chat.
He took out a tan colored wrap from his first aid kit. “What were you doing out on the ice like that? How were you moving on it like that?” he lifted your foot slightly so he could start wrapping the bandage around your aching muscles.
Your head cocked to the side at the question. He didn’t know what figure skating was? You were quite surprised to hear that, but not many people were aware of it. Sometimes you found that there were people out there that had no clue about the sport, so you weren’t that shocked.
“Well, I was actually doing something called figure skating. It’s a sport where people can move on the ice with special shoes,” you explained, “Those shoes I was wearing are called ice skates. It’s how I was able to skate on the ice without slipping,”
Obito looked down at your skates. He finally understood why there was a huge metal blade at the end of it. He thought you were wearing those to walk in snow or something, but he was really wrong about that.
He nodded his head, “That’s cool, I’ve never heard of anyone knowing how to skate on ice before. Do you do this often, or?”
You played with the skin of your nails as he finished wrapping your foot. “Yeah! I actually compete in competitions for medals and stuff like that. I’m here in the Hidden Leaf for one actually,” you said, “I hope to make the team here, because it’s been my dream since I was a child. Though, this injury might stop me,”
Obito slowly understood the concept of what figure skating was. He had never heard of it before. It looked really cool from what he had seen, but he was growing worried. What if you didn’t make it onto the team you wanted? You were injured, and that put things in jeopardy.
He needed to make sure you felt fine before your competition.
Obito took the small ice pack, placing it above the wrap on your ankle. You shivered from the cold material touching your skin. It did feel a bit soothing if you were being real.
“You should be fine, it seems like it was just a sprain, so I wouldn’t move for the rest of the evening,” he turned around to grab a bottle of pills, “These help a lot with pain.. I used to take them whenever I had really bad headaches,”
You took the pill bottle from his hand. The tablets moved around, clanking against the plastic container. It sounded like there was a decent amount inside of the bottle, so you were glad you had some pain relief.
Looking up at him, you smiled brightly for his actions. “Thank you, but, I have my competition in a couple of days. What if they come looking? Or.. what if I’m not better before the competition?” a worried tone was heavy in your voice. There was so much that could happen, and you didn’t know what might happen.
Obito placed his hand on your shoulder, giving you a reassuring squeeze. “Don’t worry, I think you’ll be okay in time for your competition. Rest as much as possible,” he smiled at you.
His words were enough to calm your nerves. You wondered how someone like him was all ok his own. He seemed like such a kind, genuine soul. How could somebody like him be hidden in these woods all alone? You wished there were more people in this world like him.
You played with the bottle of pills in your hands. “Hey, Obito.. I have a question,” you turned your head to look at him. He seemed to fixing you some tea, because you saw him taking out some tea packets from the cabinet.
He looked back at you for a couple of seconds. “Yeah? What’s up?” he turned to focus his attention back on the tea he was making you.
“Why do you.. live here all on your own?” you raised your eyebrows in curiosity.
You saw the male pause in his movements. He was dead silent now. You could practically hear a pin drop from how quiet it was inside of the cabin. Part of you was slowly regretting asking the question. What if it was too triggering? What if you were intruding on his business? God, curse your stupid brain for being too curious.
Fearing you upset him, you cleared your throat. “I’m sorry.. if that was too much to ask..” you looked down, feeling shameful from his reaction.
“No, don’t worry about it, (Y/N), it’s not too much,” he replied, “I just.. want a quiet life, you know? Away from all of the people, that’s all,”
You nodded your head, choosing to not say anything else. You still felt kind of foolish to ask such a thing, but you were just curious.
Obito then came towards you with a turquoise tea cup in his hand. He held it out for you, which you gladly took. The smell of the tea made your mouth water. It had been a while since you had something to drink. You had been practicing all day, so you didn’t have many opportunities to get a drink.
You sipped the warm tea. It relaxed your tense body, and you started to feel soothed. It was quite a delicious tea too. You’d have to ask Obito about it before you departed.
“Feel free to rest here for tonight. I don’t mind if you stay,” he walked towards the kitchen to grab his own tea cup.
Realistically, you had no choice but to stay there for the rest of the evening. Your ankle was too sore for you to even think about walking on it. Plus, the walk back to your hotel was very long. It wasn’t like this guy was going to escort you back. You could barely get yourself off of the couch without flinching, and there was that chance of you possibly making your ankle worse.
You placed your tea cup on the coffee table beside the couch. You then opened the bottle of pills to take some. You hoped that the pills would make you feel at least somewhat better.
Placing two of the tablets on your tongue, you reached for your tea to swallow the pills. There was a slight bitter taste in your mouth once they went down. They must have started dissolving on your tongue as you swallowed the tea. It was kind of gross.
“I’ll be in my room if you need anything. Just shout, okay?” Obito nodded his head towards the small corridor.
“Wait, before you go..” your voice made him pause in his movements.
Obito nodded his head to the side. “What’s up? Is everything okay?” he furrowed his eyebrows with curiosity on his features.
You looked at him with this sweet expression. It was enough to make Obito feel butterflies in his belly. “Thank you.. for everything, I know you didn’t have to help me, but I appreciate you more than words can describe,” you played with your nails as you spoke, feeling slightly bashful.
Obito’s face turned a light shade of pink from your words. Your voice was smooth like honey, and he thought you were the prettiest person he’s ever seen. You were so pure, he couldn’t believe people like you still existed.
“Of course, you don’t have to thank me,” he replied, “Let me get you a change of clothes before you rest. I wouldn’t want you catching a cold,”
You smiled at the gesture. “Thank you, Obito, really..” you looked down at the floor, then at him.
He disappeared down the hallway again, leaving you by yourself. There was something about Obito that made you feel nervous. He was flattering, and really handsome if you were being honest with yourself. He seemed so selfless, and it was such an admirable trait of his.
You wished you could spend a little longer with him.
-
Your eyes slowly fluttered open as the sound of birds chirping filled your ears. There was also a soft yellow glow that filled the room, which made you stir around in your sleep.
It took you a few moments, but you finally adjusted to the area around you. The room was slightly unfamiliar, but the memories from the previous day began to flood into your brain. You were still staying with Obito, but you weren’t sure what time it was.
Shifting around on the couch, your head turned to look outside the window. It looked like the sun had barely just rose out of the sky. You knew it was probably going to be a really beautiful day, and that excited you. You yearned for those lovely winter mornings where the air was crisp, and the sun was high in the sky.
Turning your ankle, you realized there was little to no pain in your muscles. The pain meds Obito gave you must have really done the trick, which made you even more happier. You were going to be fine for the competition, and your dream of making the Hidden Leaf Figure Skating Team was still alive.
You were also wearing Obito’s clothes. Before you fell asleep, he gave you one of his sweaters and a pair of his shorts. They were kind of big on you, but it felt extremely cozy. You also had a nice thick blanket covering you too, so you slept really nice.
Sitting up, you pulled the blanket off of your body, placing your feet on the cool wooden floor. It was completely still and quiet inside of the cabin. Obito must have been still sleeping, so you figured you wouldn’t wake him up. He deserved the sleep, especially after what he did for you yesterday. You didn’t know what you’d do to thank him, but you really appreciated him.
You lifted yourself off of the couch, and started walking towards the kitchen. This was also a small test to see if you could actually walk on your ankle. It seemed like it was perfectly fine, which was a complete relief.
Your eyes landed on the tea box which sat on the counter. You figured you’d make yourself a cup, as well as Obito.
Meanwhile, Obito was laying in his bed. He had barely just woken up from his slumber. It had to be pretty early in the day, because the sun was still peaking through the curtains; its golden rays basking against the wall. He still felt pretty lazy, but he knew he had to wake up eventually.
He also realized that you were still there. He almost completely forgot that you had spent the night with him, so he figured he’d go and check up on you. Obito was aware that you needed to leave today, so he wanted to get you ready as soon as possible.
He dreaded it, but you had your own life and he had his.
Obito sat up in his bed, stretching out his joints and his muscles. He then placed his feet on the floor, shivering slightly from the cold floor making contact with his warm skin.
Standing up, he headed towards his bedroom door and opened it. The faint aroma of herbal tea filled his nose. He wondered if you were already awake, because he knew he didn’t leave any tea out from the previous night. If you were awake and walking, that must have meant your ankle was fine.
At least he hoped so.
Obito walked through the hallway towards the living room and kitchen. His eyes landed on where you were standing. You seemed to be mixing something in one of his tea cups. Had you gotten up and made some tea for yourself? If that was the case, that was a good sign. You were feeling better, which was all he wanted.
He yawned, which caused you to turn around and face him. “Good morning, Obito!” you smiled brightly at him, “I hope you don’t mind.. but I made you and I some tea.. I was feeling kind of thirsty this morning, and I felt like I wanted to repay you for last night,”
His heart practically leaped out of his chest. You were so kind to him. You didn’t need to do any of that, yet you did. God, Obito thought you were an angel sent from the heaven’s above.
He stepped over so he was now standing right beside you. “Thank you, (Y/N), you’re very sweet. I appreciate the gesture,” his cheeks turned pink as he spoke to you.
Your hand raised to touch his arm. “Of course! You deserve it! I couldn’t leave without thanking you,” you giggled.
Your touch sent tingles along Obito’s skin. It was something he hadn’t felt before. He wasn’t alarmed by it, no, but he was surprised at how good it felt. You were making him feel something for once. He wished more people like you existed around Konoha. Your beauty, your smile, your laugh, it was all perfect to Obito.
He stared at you for a few moments, taking in your features. It pained him knowing that you had to leave him. You probably wouldn’t ever see each other again, and you would continue your lives without remembering this moment.
He dreaded that, but it was a reality he had to face.
Snapping out of his thoughts, he reached over to grab his tea cup. “Speaking of leaving..” he started, “We should get you ready before your teammates get suspicious. You have to practice for that competition,”
You slowly remembered that your competition was tomorrow, and you knew you had to get a ton of practice in. That, and your coach would probably rip you a new one for wandering off without informing him.
“Right! I’ll gather my stuff and I’ll be out of your hair soon,” you walked out of the kitchen towards the couch where your items were. Your suit was folded up, and your skates were right beside the coffee table.
Obito watched you as you gathered all of your things. He couldn’t help but think about how great of a woman you were. You’d make someone really happy someday, and he was very confident about that.
You turned around, looking at him awkwardly. “Um, do you want your clothes back?” you nodded your head to the side.
He almost choked on his tea. He cleared his throat so he wouldn’t. “N-No! Don’t worry about it, I have plenty. It’s also very cold outside, so you need to stay warm,” his tone was reassuring.
You tossed all of your things into the small bag you brought with you. Being honest, you were kind of sad that you had to leave. Obito was a very sweet man, and having to depart from his presence was making you melancholic.
You swung your bag over your shoulders, scanning the room to make sure you didn’t leave anything behind. You also took a second to slip into the walking shoes you brought with you. Your feet were kind of sore, and you didn’t want to trip over yourself with your skates.
“Before you go..” you turned around to see Obito standing behind you. He had a bottle in his hand, which showed the pills he previously gave to you. “Make sure you take some of these with you just in case,”
You took the bottle from him, smiling at the act of kindness. “Thank you, Obito, you’re such a good and amazing person. You deserve the best,” you played with the bottle, causing the pills to shake around against the plastic.
Quietness filled the room, this was the hard part. You both had to leave each other, but neither of you wanted that. You wished you could spend more time with him, but your competition was important. You couldn’t give that up for him. He probably didn’t see you like that anyway.
Obito watched you head towards the door. He could feel the dull ache forming in his chest from the scene unfolding in front of him.
“See you later, Obito,” you turned to wave at him before walking out of his cabin, the door shutting with a click.
His hand drooped to his side as you walked out of his home. You were gone, and that’s the last time he’d ever see you.
Being honest, Obito didn’t know why he was so upset about you leaving him. He barely knew you at all, and the two of you were strangers. All he did was patch up your wounds, so why did he feel sad about you? Deep down, he knew that you probably only saw him as a man who helped you. There was no spark, well, maybe you didn’t feel it as much as he did.
Maybe it was the fact that you actually saw Obito as a person. You didn’t give him those smug looks the people in the Hidden Leaf gave him. You said he was a good person. Nobody had ever said that to him, and it made him feel something for once. He wasn’t a robot anymore. You cracked that hollow shell inside of him, and let light shine through the dark space. He truly felt something being around you.
Sniffing, he turned around to clean up the tea cups. You were gone, and there was nothing he could do about it.
-
It was the official day of your competition, and you were extremely nervous.
The knot in your gut was tight. You knew this was your chance to show the Hidden Leaf judges that you were worth joining their figure skating team. If you messed this up, there was no more opportunities for you to try again. It’s what bothered you the most, but it was also your biggest motivation.
You were currently in the locker room getting ready. There was about ten minutes left before you hit the ice, and you were doing some extra preparations. You made sure your laces were on extra tight, and your outfit was straight and smooth. First impressions were always everything.
“You’re going up soon, (Y/N)! Be ready!” your coach called, leaning over to look at you.
You turned your head to look at him. “Got it!” you called back, standing up to get ready. You could feel your heart leaping inside of your chest. You felt like you were going to throw up if you were being honest.
Your mind started to wander to Obito, again.
For the past couple of hours, your mind couldn’t shake the thoughts about him. Your mind couldn’t erase the memories of the few hours you shared together. It was short, but it meant so much to you and you wanted to relive it all over again. The lecturing from your coach was worth it, because you got to spend your time away with someone you felt comfortable with.
You really missed him, but you didn’t want to say it out loud.
“(Y/N)! Come here!”
The sound of your coach’s voice booming made you jump out of your skin. You wobbled your way to the small room he was standing in. He had a small smile on his features, which made you confused.
“Yes? What’s going on?” you nodded your head to the side with curiosity written all over your features.
He turned around, pointing at the most beautiful bouquet of flowers sitting on the wooden table. “Looks like you have a little fan. These were dropped off for you,” he said.
Your eyes grew wide in shock. Who could have given you such a beautiful gift? The flowers were lovely, the crimson colored roses popped out and they smelled amazing. They looked like they were freshly picked too.
“Wow.. these are amazing,” your fingers brushed against the soft petals, which felt like silk beneath your fingertips.
Your coach pulled a piece of folded paper off of the bouquet. “There’s a small note, you should read it,” he tapped your shoulder before walking out of the room for you to have some privacy.
You picked up the piece of paper, lifting it up to see what was written. Your eyes began to scan over the letters, and you couldn’t help but feel your heart flutter from the sweet words.
(Y/N),
I picked these for you because you remind me of fresh roses. Your beauty is stunning, and you bring in so much love and happiness in every room you enter.
Good luck today, I hope you make it onto the team. You’re talented, so I know you’ll make it.
With love,
Obito.

Can you do itachi with prompt 44?
Interesting prompt to choose for him.
Tw: Yandere themes, unhealthy mindset, unhealthy relationship, kidnapping
Prompt 44: “Escaping is all you think about, isn’t it? Always dreaming about it, always thinking about it?”
Tumblr media
"Escaping is all you think about, isn't it? Always dreaming about it, always thinking about it?" You glanced shortly to the back of your 'room', seeing in the corner of your eyes the raven-haired male. But the eye contact was short lived, you shifting your gaze in the matter of only a few seconds back to the window, staring out of it in the huge forest which layed in front of you. Somewhere out there was your village, your family, your home.
You totally hated it in here, being stuck in this place with him. You had heard from him in some stories before from the famous S-rated criminal from the Leaf Village. Itachi Uchiha, the man who had killed his whole clan. Everyone in the Land of Fire knew from their famous kekkai genkai, the Sharingan. The red eyes which you had seen from close up. And as much as you had feared them and still did, you still couldn't believe what your first thought had been when you had looked in his eyes before you had been trapped in a genjutsu. "Beautiful."
Even without those red eyes he still looked stupidly good. His black hair which was loosely pulled together ina pony tail and his onyx black hair weren't that outstanding, but there was just something about him that gave him this...mysterious and fascinating vibe which made him incredibly interesting for you. He almost gave off the feeling like he was keeping something really important to himself. And he seemed to struggle with it. Whatever it was, it seemed to be a heavy burden he was carrying with him. You could only imagine how hard it must be sometimes for him, to have no one to talk to. A very lonely life indeed. But he had chosen this way. It was only natural that he paid the price for his actions. But sometimes you wondered if he regretted what he had done, slaughtering nearly his whole clan.
"Why wouldn't that be the only thing I'm thinking about? I haven't given up hope yet. Besides, who wouldn't want to flee when finding out that their captor is a high-ranked criminal, wanted from everyone?" Your voice was neither loud nor was it laced with poison. It was just calm and somewhat very icy as well as a bit bitter. Throwing a tantrum wasn't really your style of doing things. You preferred to stay quiet and collect informations by observing. Struggling would only cost you valuable energy which could be used much more effective otherwise.
It was also somewhat a sign of respect for the male. You simply tried to treat him like he did, with respect. This made it annoyingly hard to dislike him as much as you had wanted to dislike him at the beginning. But you had come to terms that you didn't have to despise him. Because Itachi possessed something you hadn't seen on many criminals before. He had his own dignity, he wasn't just someone who killed for fun or for some low reasons you had heard off before. You kind of knew that there was something driving him to do all the horrible things he did. Because elsewise you were sure that he would never do such things. Itachi was honorable and that was why you treated him with a cold politeness.
"And I still have my family, you know? They must be completely devastated by now because I'm still missing. And as long as I keep that in mind, my family and friends who are waiting for me, I will never stop thinking and trying it. I still get why you are doing this though. You were scared that something would happen to me if someone found out that you had your eyes on me. Some people are rather shameless and I'm sure that they would have used me as a bait to get to you. Who knows, if someone finds out that I'm connected to you in a way, they would come for me anyways. It leaves you with no choice, but to keep me with you. I might be even labeled as atraitor and missing-nin myself. My family might turn their backs onto me. I might end up being left alone by everyone. It's a rather selfish thing from you to do. You knew that this might ruin my life. Don't you have any shame and empathy for me?"
You could see from the reflection from the window that he had shifted his look to the floor, staring with an unreadable expression at the wooden ground. "You said yourself that I'm a criminal and that you want to run away from me. If you see me as one of the really bad guys, why even bother to ask?"
It was barely audible, but for a short moment you thought to hear a slightly disappointed tone in his voice. It made you finally turn around to him, staring at the man who stayed at your doorframe. When he noticed you shifting around, he looked up as well, meeting your gaze with his black one. Those weren't the eyes of a cruel and bad man. It was quite the opposite. He looked like he was hiding something that hurt him.
"That's the exact reason why I'm confused. Because I don't think you're like them." His reaction was rather subtle, but you noticed how he seemed to straighten up a bit, seemingly interested in what you meant. "Like them?", he asked. "Like other criminals. I've seen some of them before on missions. And you feel completely different from them. You aren't sinister or have bad intentions. You aren't violent nor do you seem like you enjoy what you're doing. If I'm not misreading it, I would even say you feel remorse sometimes for what you're doing. Furthermore I've never seen someone before who seems to have such a high sense of honor like you have. You don't commit crimes for your own selfish reasons. You do it because you have no choice. That's why I'm wondering why you kidnapped me for your own egoistic reasons when you never seemd to have done it before. I might be of course completely wrong with this, but for me you don't look like a terrible man like everyone used to tell me. You are different."
Itachi looked a bit stunned from what you had just said, eyes slightly widened. "Can I ask you something then?" You debated for a short moment whether to agree to this or not, but decided in the end to hear what he had to say. You gave him a short nod, turning all your attention to him. "What do you see me as then?"
This was definitely something you hadn't expected him to ask and you quirked both of your eyebrows in srprise at this unusual question. It had sounded surprisingly bitter, making your heart squeeze a bit in pity when looking at the man who was giving you a somewhat nervous look.
"You look like you're suffering from your fate. All alone with anyone having abandoned you and treating you as a traitor. I think you didn't choose this, at least not completely willing. It was chosen for you and if there would have been another way, you would have used it. That's in my opinion the thing that makes you feel truely lonely. Knowing something, but having no choice, but to keep quiet about it. It's the knowledge that makes you feel like you're left alone. Because you have no one to share it with. It's a heavy burden to carry all alone. Am I right?"
You guessed you had hit the nail in the right place. It was the first time you saw him having such a readable expression on his face. Itwasn't exaggerated or very strong. But it was the first time you saw the look of pain in his eyes, the clear feeling of heplessness that it made you almost tear up a bit. So you had been right after all.
"I'm grateful that you gave me a honest answer. Thank you." You nearly looked away when you saw him giving you a small smile, obviously still a bit pained from earlier yet you sensed the sincerity in it. You guessed having someone not judging him for what he did and looking closer at it was ararity for him. He was probably used to enduring the hatred of everyone he met. It made you wonder how it would have been, if he wouldn't have done what he had done or at least would have had the chance to explain why he had done it.
"You know, I wish we would have met under different circumstances. If you wouldn't be a criminal and wouldn't have kidnapped you, I think I might have really liked you." You sounded sad when saying this, perhaps because you really meant it. "Yes, this would have been nice. But I did what I did. It's still a pretty wish to have. But I'm afraid, it's a dream which can't be fulfilled." The bitterness in his voice gave it clearly away to you that he must have secretly longed for this too. Life really must have been unfair for him. And maybe this had been why he had decided to take you. Maybe he had just wished for not being all lonely. No one wanted to be. Loneliness was a painful and slowly killing poison.

.
Denial.
.
Life was a series of choices.
For example, Hinata Hyuuga could choose to accept the arranged marriage her father had planned for her, or she could refuse to sign on the dotted line and hold out for love. She chose the latter. She was sure that fourth cousin her father had in mind for her was a nice man, but she wasn’t interested. And after surviving the war and learning to defend herself better emotionally, the last thing she wanted was to regress into the dutiful daughter who never complained. She was finally in control of her own life.
And she was still waiting on Naruto-kun.
Hinata was tired of the sad looks her clansmen would give her when she rebuffed their advances. Centuries of marrying their third or fourth cousins had instilled it too deeply in them that they couldn’t live any other way. Naruto had taught her she could do better, and she was determined to do so.
All of her choices to move forward were the reason Hanabi had been named Clan Heiress. She was already being prepped for it before the war, but their father’s insistence on an arranged marriage was the final straw. Hinata had been officially removed from the running. She would’ve been concerned about being branded with the Branch’s Curse Seal if Naruto hadn’t been so vocal in his disagreement about the practice. The Leaf hero’s words resonated with the village, and Lord Hokage started negotiations to prevent further sealings. Kakashi had also made motions to have those who currently bore the juinjutsu to be released from it. It would take a few more years to fully circumvent it, as the seal hadn’t been designed to be removed, but it was a step forward for the clan. A hope for a better future.
Everything Neji had wanted.
Hinata couldn’t be happier. She only wished to share in that future with Naruto. He was her hero. And the love of her life. She just needed to be more patient with him. But it was frustrating some days. She tried to talk to him and only succeeded when they were alone. Around friends and in crowds, he was so distracted by everyone. One-on-one he became fidgety, but she just chalked that up to him not being very good with girls. He’d stopped asking Sakura out, and the two were nothing more than friends, and he hadn’t asked anyone out. He was just shy.
Hinata already had a plan in place to ask him out herself. She just needed to work up for her own confidence to do so. Someone had to get this relationship going. In the meantime, she daydreamed about how it was going to go. But her days were lonely right now. Waiting. Patiently. And never quite making that important step forward. She had her family and friends and teammates but wanted more.
Her heart could only take so much.
“I just need to be brave.”
Hinata wasn’t brave, emotionally. In dire moments and with important things and people on the line, she knew how to be brave. Adrenaline and determination got her a long way. But in the aftermath, she found herself succumbing to the fear of rejection and crippling shyness.
“Yes, you do.”
She started, realising she’d said that out loud, in front of her sister. She’d been so lost in her thoughts and forgotten where she was for a moment. Hanabi was sitting across from her, the low serving table between them, ignoring the servants as they poured the tea for her before turning to her older sister. Hinata’s sister was clutching a half-finished kimono to her lap and lazily sewing at the hem of it. For such a skilled fighter, her movements were surprisingly delicate.
This was a weekly thing for them. Every Sunday at lunch, when their father was too busy with clan duties to interrupt or overhear them, they would talk to each other about anything or anyone, and when the Hyuuga servants left, even gossip sometimes. Hanabi had been carrying that kimono around all week, taking her time with building on it. Hinata knew her sister well enough to know it was a project with no defined outcome. She was just adding to it at her own leisure. Who knew what it would look like when she was finally done?
Hinata delicately sipped at her tea as Hanabi continued to ignore her own; her eyes narrowing as she focused intensely on the needle and thread. Her sister had developed a habit of people watching, since the war ended. And her insight was far sharper than anyone that Hinata knew. It made her feel insignificant.
“Spoken to Naruto lately?”
Hinata nodded. It was a silent lie. But she could’ve easily ran into him a few days ago if she wanted to so she didn’t see the point in saying otherwise. He was very busy with missions and handling Sasuke. The Uchiha’s release from jail had come as no surprise, given who was Hokage now. Kakashi had always had unwavering faith that he’d return. Just as Naruto did. Sakura… Hinata had seen her waver. But she was more confident now than ever about their team returning as family. Hinata only hoped that when she started dating Naruto herself, that it didn’t upset their dynamic.
“You’re grieving.”
Hinata raised an eyebrow at that. “What am I grieving?”
Her sister smiled. “Love.”
“I don’t understand.”
“Naruto-kun isn’t the smartest person,” Hanabi said. “And I think you know that.”
“He doesn’t have to be.”
Her sister smiled. Again. A knowing smile that Hinata didn’t appreciate. But she said nothing of it and returned to watching Hanabi’s expert hands as she weaved the thread in and out of the kimono. This was a hobby for the younger sister. They’d both learned how to sew traditional garments as well as fix them, when they were still barely able to fight. It was second nature to them both. But Hanabi found a kind of peace to the process that Hinata never could.
“Father wishes you to marry soon.”
“And you?”
Hanabi shook her head. “A few more years, perhaps. When I’m ready to begin training to take over the clan.”
She was still too young to learn everything. Given that Hiashi was nowhere near retiring, it didn’t serve any purpose to put her through those rigorous trials just yet. But Hinata was surprised their father wasn’t thinking about grandchildren yet. At least not from his heiress.
Hanabi put the kimono down and finally sipped at her tea. “How do you feel about Naruto-kun?”
“I love him?”
It was immediate and instinctive, but it sounded more like a question than a statement. Hanabi didn’t react to the questioning tone of her voice. She just gave her older sister a look that told her she was questioning her for more than just curiosity.
“Are you sure, Oneesan?”
She had convinced herself so thoroughly that it was going to happen. Hinata brushed at the hem of the sleeve of her Yukata. Was she? Did she?
Yes.
She still loved Naruto-kun. Of course, she did. She’d gone through too much to just suddenly stop caring about him. He was in her heart. Just like Neji still was.
Was.
“I asked him out.”
“What did he say?”
“He said ‘let’s go to Ichiraku’.” He also said, “that bum Sasuke can pay for mine this time,” but she didn’t see how that was relevant. It was a date. And only two people could go on a date at the same time.
Right?
“Will the rest of Team Kakashi be there?”
Hinata opened her mouth to answer then shut it, her eye twitching in annoyance. She calmed herself and shook her head. “Of course not.”
She didn’t like the way this conversation was going. Hinata glanced at the clock on the wall. They normally took tea, and then lunch, all awhile talking of friends and goals. It was funny to her that they’d never done this until recently. What exactly was the point before now?
Hanabi placed her tea down, almost finished. “We should have the food brought in, before it gets cold.”
Hinata nodded mechanically and waited for the servants to finish setting the table before disappearing. They could not be overheard in this room by anyone who wasn’t already in it. The jutsu that allowed this privacy had been in place since long before either of them were born.
Hanabi started talking about a jutsu that their father wanted to teach them and Hinata calmly dug into her Udon noodles. Silence eventually fell until they were both done. After the servants retrieved the plates, Hanabi went right back to pressing and hemming the edges of the kimono in her hand.
“Sasuke-kun walked by the compound again this morning.”
“Hm?” Hinata sat up straighter at that.
“He’s been doing that a lot lately,” Hanabi mused. “But not last week when you were staying over Sakura’s.”
For Ino’s surprise party sleepover. Which was Sakura’s idea.
Hinata hadn’t slept in her own bed for two nights. It was a first for her, for a long time.
“Sasuke-kun looks in here too. Like he’s searching for something. It’s a barely noticeable glance, but I’ve been staking out the gates.”
“Do you like him?” Hinata was surprised at her sister as well as the strange clenching of her gut.
Hanabi scoffed. “No. But ever since I first saw him watching you training with your team after he got out of prison, I’ve been noticing he does that with you a lot.”
Hinata scoffed. “Don’t be silly.”
“Yeah, you’re right. He’s probably just plotting to kill you.” Hanabi ignored her sister’s worried expression. “Or wondering why you always look so sad these days.”
“I’m not sad.”
“Yes, you are.”
“I’m not.”
Hanabi set the unfinished kimono down and stared her sister straight in the eyes. “Do you love him?”
“Who?” Hinata hated how her voice rose a few octaves.
“Naruto-kun.”
“Yes,” she said. “I love him.”
She would wait for Naruto. For him to come to terms with what had happened and realise they were meant to be together. Hinata would be the quiet voice he can’t block out because he loves her so much. No matter that he had already had numerous occasions to prove it to her. Even someone as clueless as him couldn’t not know how she felt. She just needed to give him a push in the right direction.
That’s what I have to do.
And she went right on back to pretending she didn’t see the pitying look on her sister’s face.
  .:.
  Anger.
.
The restaurant was noisy by the time Hinata arrived, dressed up and twisting her fingers nervously. She looked up into the colourful lights that decorated the restaurant of choice. Night-time made this place come alive in a way that surprised patrons that saw it for the first time. This was also one of the newer restaurants that opened after the war. So many things had changed, and so fast and it felt like Konoha was quickly becoming a very different village. Kakashi had authorised integral changes and Hinata could see the village one day becoming as large as a city. She was kind of nervous about that. Their population was steadily growing too, even only a year out.
She sighed and stepped forward in the waiting line. Naruto had said he’d come about seven and it was only a few minutes before. Hinata had spent the last hour already dressed for this date. Her stomach had twisted, making her throw up twice, before that. The line moved again, and she found herself at the head of it faster than her nerves could handle.
It’s finally happening.
“May I help you?”
Hinata cleared her throat. “Party for two. Under the name Hinata Hyuuga.”
The server looked through her list and her eyes widened in surprise. “I’m sorry, we were told that was a party of four.”
“A-are you sure?”
The woman turned the clipboard to show her. When Hinata had asked Naruto to make the arrangement, because she’d been called away by her father, she’d assumed he had made it just for the two of them. It was supposed to be a date… right? When the venue was changed from Ichiraku to The Sannin Sushi House she assumed this was finally going to be more intimate.
Hinata swallowed heavily. “I-I, uh. He must’ve made a mistake.”
The server nodded her head in understanding. “Yes, but unfortunately, we can’t change your table. There aren’t any spare ones tonight.”
The sound of the other patrons hit her then, reminding her of how loud and full the restaurant was. She just nodded and Hinata went along with it, hiding her disappointment. They would just have to do with a larger table between them. A voice in the back of her head scoffed at her.
Who else is coming tonight?
Maybe Naruto had misheard her? She didn’t understand how he could have but it had to have been a mistake. She shook her head, chastising herself for worrying over something so trivial. She was stronger than this.
“Thank-you,” she bowed to the server. “Where is the table?”
Hinata followed the woman and settled into the chair that gave her the best view of the restaurant entrance. She was already on edge, with the change in her plans, and worried that something else might sneak up behind her if she wasn’t careful. All the courage she’d learned from Naruto-kun had boiled off and she needed to get a hold of herself.
“Dining alone, again?”
Hinata gave a start at the familiar voice. “Sasuke-kun,” she said softly.
Why is he here?
Did this mean Naruto had invited him too? No, that didn’t make any sense.
The Uchiha slid into the chair across from her. This was one of the non-self-serve restaurants that had popped up in Konoha in the last twelve months and as a result the space between them, under the table, was minimal. His foot accidentally brushed against hers and she started again.
“A-are you here–”
“Hm. Naruto said he’d pay this time if I turned up early.”
They got dinner together a lot, then? Hinata struggled not to lose the soft smile she’d plastered to her face. It was only natural that Naruto would make time for his former teammate who was also his best friend. This didn’t mean he was avoiding her.
Of course not. Why would I even think such a thing?
“W-where is Sakura-san?”
Sasuke picked up the menu in front of him and lazily perused it, not answering her question. He didn’t look over at her when she repeated the question and began tapping the table with the menu absentmindedly. She wondered what was going through his head. After a few minutes, she’d had enough.
“Why are you here?”
Now, he looked up at her. “There are no more free tables.”
Is he making fun of me?
She assumed he was a joking. He had to be. This was supposed to be just her and Naruto. Sasuke was ruining everything. She didn’t want to burst that out at him, but it did really feel like he was getting in the way deliberately. Hanabi’s words to her the other day about Sasuke following her around popped into her head, but that was ridiculous. Everyone knew he was dating Sakura, just like Hinata hoped to begin dating Naruto. Why else would Sakura be so adamant something was going to happen between them?
“He’s just shy, Hinata,” the pinkette had told her yesterday. “And we’re going out tomorrow night anyway.”
Tomorrow night is tonight, she reminded herself. So where is Sakura?
A waitress sidled up to their table, giving Sasuke a once over with her eyes before asking them for their orders.
“Pork Katsu Curry,” Sasuke said. “With a side of Kani Salad and Green Tea.”
“Certainly, handsome.” The waitress turned to Hinata. “And you, sweetie?”
Hinata felt very uncomfortable under the stare they were both giving her. It felt like she was on a date with Sasuke, not Naruto. She didn’t know how to handle this. It felt like the world had just tipped on its axis. When she was this uncomfortable, Hinata usually just caved to whatever was expected of her. But she didn’t want to keep doing that with the important things in her life. However, this was too public and sensitive a venue for her to start putting her foot down without repercussions. Saying anything about her disappointment and desire to get rid of them both would only make her regret it later.
She blinked heavily. Uh, right. They were still looking at her expectantly. Though Sasuke’s eyes were occasionally drifting off to the side like he was embarrassed, but he still looked more bored than anything.
“Miso Soup,” she said finally, going with something she knew well. Hinata wasn’t hungry enough for a side, but she didn’t want them to think she was angry with them. “And M-Moyashi Salad on the side.” She cleared her throat. “And just some water, please.”
The waitress read their orders back to them then winked. “That’ll be ready in a jiffy. You two lovebirds let me know if you need anything else, okay?”
Hinata’s skin flushed crimson and she lowered her gaze to the table, not daring to see Sasuke’s reaction to that.
“How long until Naruto-kun arrives, do you think?”
Sasuke glanced over at her and shrugged, then leaned forward to rest his chin on his hands, now staring at her. It was making her uncomfortable, so she looked back down again. They remained that way, in silence, for a while. Hinata entertained herself by counting the tassels on the edge of the tablecloth. Over and over again.
“You…”
Hinata looked up quickly as Sasuke trailed off, the look on his face suddenly uncertain. Before she could ask him what he was going to say, the waitress returned with their orders. She felt herself turning beet red, realising they’d been sitting like this for at least ten minutes. The waitress was eyeing them curiously, like one would a couple of bugs under a microscope.
“Thank-you,” they both said at the same time.
Hinata sighed deeply as the waitress bowed to them. She was eerily silent this time and moved away quickly.
“I think we unnerve her,” she said softly.
Sasuke glanced at the woman’s retreating back before digging into his food. For him, it was digging in. Hinata had been in many group outings with Team Kakashi since the war ended and Sasuke was allowed free reign of the village. He ate like a nobleman; picky and proper. Not at all like Naruto.
She sighed again and picked up the bowl with her Miso Soup. If he wasn’t going to turn up, she might as well enjoy the night air and good food. They ate in silence and Hinata slowly settled her nerves, finding the quiet between them a comfortable surprise. The loud noises in the restaurant didn’t bother her anymore and she proceeded to escape into her own little world, just thinking about things.
Her father had been asking her about her future lately, instead of telling her what it would entail. She was finally having conversations with him in which taking part meant that she could approach the subject matter honestly. He’d even stopped asking her about her love life. (His attempt at a marriage of convenience notwithstanding.) Hinata put her bowl down and glanced over at Sasuke. It seemed nobody had a handle on their love life lately.
“Are you…” She hesitated when Sasuke put down his spoon and she suddenly had his full attention. “Um. I thought you were coming here with Sakura-san on a date.” He shook his head. “She, uh, said so yesterday.”
Was that a smirk? Whatever it was, it was gone a moment later.
“Sakura…” he cocked his head to the side. “She has different ideas on what an invitation out with friends means.”
Hinata understood what he meant but frowned softly. Everyone knew that Sakura was obsessed with Sasuke and saw any attention from him as evidence of their undying love. A simple invitation with Team Kakashi could set her off on a soliloquy about star-crossed love. But that didn’t explain why she wasn’t here. Her absence made even less sense than Naruto’s.
Sasuke sighed, obviously realising she wanted to know more. He sat back in his chair heavily.
“I… told her we were meeting at Ichiraku’s.”
“You…”
He told Sakura the wrong place on purpose. He had no intention of being honest with her. Was it a trick? Or just him being a douche? Hinata narrowed her eyes at Sasuke. A familiar feeling of annoyance rose up inside her and if she’d been paying attention to why this bothered her so much, she’d have realised Sasuke was giving Sakura the same kind of brush off that Naruto had done to Hinata.
But she couldn’t bring herself to yell at him either. She ground her teeth. “Take it from me, Sasuke-kun, you wouldn’t like someone you care about doing that to you.”
“Don’t call me Sasuke-kun.”
He hated honorifics.
“You have no idea.” He said it like he’d come to some kind of existential realisation.
“About what?”
“You’re quiet and shy and sweet to everyone. Always putting yourself down and picking up everyone else.”
She didn’t know what to say to that. Sasuke continued, now leaning forward and pointing at her like he was her sensei, and she was a naughty genin who refused to listen.
“Despite having such a powerful dojutsu, you don’t even see what’s happening right in front of you. Naruto has obviously left you in the dirt, but you keep holding out hope he’ll come around.” She fidgeted as he continued to reprimand her. “Face it: he lied to you.”
“He was just trying to spare my feelings.” Her voice sounded hollow, even to her.
Sasuke scoffed. “By dragging the decision out.”
“What are you doing to S-Sakura-san?”
“That’s different,” he said, his eyes narrowing. “I’ve told her I’m not interested but she won’t take the hint.”
“Naruto-kun’s–”
“He’s a dobe. And he isn’t going to date you, no matter what you think.”
“How can you call him your friend and speak of him like this? I thought you cared–”
“I never said I cared about him.”
“I suppose you expect me to believe that?”
“I’m not the only one running away from the truth.”
“No, you’re perfect,” she said, spitting out the last word.
He smiled at that. Genuinely. Her frustration seemed to amuse him.
“Why are you saying these things to me?” She asked, clenching her fists and glaring openly at him.
“Because no-one else will,” he said, matter-of-factly. “Least of all the one person who should.”
But why did he have to be so rude about it?
He levelled her with the most intense non-glare stare she’d ever seen from him. “Kindness doesn’t seem to work on you.”
Damn. She’d asked that question out loud. Hinata couldn’t get a handle on the emotions bubbling up inside her. It was too painful. She’s waited for years. Held herself up high and given every inch of herself. But Sasuke knew Naruto better than she did. He said the blond had no intention of doing anything with her. He said that he was just a dobe who wasn’t telling her what she needed to hear. She was so furious now that Hinata couldn’t hear anything other than her own blood rushing in her ears.
How dare he?
“You are a low life.” Hinata could hardly believe the words were out of her mouth as she stood up, her body shaking with anger. Sasuke just stared back at her, not surprised or offended one bit. “Sakura-san could do so much better than you.”
“Tell her that.”
She desperately wanted to throw her untouched water at him. But she reigned in that emotion, not wanting to cause a scene that could get back to her father. She’d already embarrassed herself enough. Instead, Hinata huffed, rifled in her purse and threw down just enough money to only pay for her own food. Naruto had apparently promised to pay for Sasuke, and he wasn’t here to do so. But that didn’t mean that she had to do it in his stead. Feeling quite unlike herself, she scowled at him before storming off.
Hinata didn’t see the genuine curiosity on his face at her actions. The small smile of interest she’d sparked. She could only see red. It would be hours before she could calm down enough to realise, he’d been right.
  .:.
  Bargaining.
.
If only she’d been stronger. And more forceful, like Sakura, then none of this would’ve happened. Her life had spiralled out of control. Before that dinner with Sasuke, Hinata could just go along and pretend that one day Naruto would ask her out for real, or at least take her asking seriously. He wasn’t in a relationship of his own, though – to her chagrin – his fangirls were still as stubborn as ever. And that lack of a relationship had given her hope.
Now she had all kinds of thoughts about what was really going on. And the truth was, that Sasuke was right. Naruto-kun wasn’t interested in her like that. It was still hard to grasp since she’d held onto it for so long and it didn’t feel real. They’d shared a moment during the war, holding hands and promising to be there for each other. She’d taken it as a declaration of love while he’d been talking about friendship. Granted, the kid of friendship you kill and die for, but friendship all the same.
I’m as bad as Sakura.
Or maybe only almost as bad as Sakura, since the pinkette was still talking Sasuke up to everyone. He’d made a scene the day after that dinner date (and she could admit that, although accidental, it had been a date), which should’ve put Sakura in her place. Hinata hadn’t seen either of them since then, so she didn’t know if it worked. But she had bigger fish to fry.
Hinata needed to regain control of this chaos she’d created. Maybe she was still in denial though, and it would explain why she’d deliberately made her way to Ichiraku’s, knowing he’d be there. He always was at lunchtime. Everyone knew that Naruto got up at nine o’clock, had breakfast (sometimes in his apartment and sometimes at Ichiraku’s), headed over to the training grounds where he’d work out (and sometimes spar, if any of his former teammates were available), then practically skip to Ichiraku’s for lunch. He’d spend anywhere from half an hour to an hour there, depending on how hungry he was and how many fangirls slowed him down. Then Naruto would promptly return to the training grounds for a few hours before tracking down his former teammates to see who wasn’t busy and then bug them until they either kicked him out or he got bored. If the sun hadn’t set yet he’d wander through the village, waving at people, being waved at, and stopping to talk to other Konoha Eleven members.
Sometimes he spent the late afternoon with Konohamaru and his friends. Then he’d go back to the training grounds and use the dark to hone his sensory skills. Naruto would go at it until he dropped, then drag his arse back home, eat, bathe, and finally sleep until morning.
His schedule was a little different sometimes, depending on his mood and available friends (Kakashi didn’t send him on many missions because he was too overpowered for most of them) but the lunchtime and when he started night-time training were like clockwork.
When he would find time to do the things he’d always gone on about, she didn’t know. But Hinata knew his current schedule because she was a stalker. It was obvious to her now. Nobody else followed him around like this. She wondered if he’d ever taken the time to notice. She needed to get a hold of this before she wasted her life away.
But Hinata couldn’t stop wondering what could’ve been if she’d approached Naruto right after the war instead of waiting for him to get into a routine of ignoring her. Maybe she’d have shown him just how right they were for each other. And he’d finally listen.
This was why she was walking toward the Ichiraku Ramen stand. It was why she stopped next to a stall of flowers and pretended to be interested in them as she watched the ramen stand in her peripherals. And why she didn’t move away the moment she realised he was on a date. Her stomach clenched, but it was a milder pain than she expected. Even so, it still threatened to bring a fresh bout of tears to her eyes to watch him with this girl.
Naruto was the only member of Team Kakashi at the stall. He stood outside, laughing and joking with someone that Hinata didn’t recognise. The girl was really pretty. With short auburn hair and a petite figure that her clothes highlighted, and her makeup complimented. What made Hinata realise it was a date was not only how the girl was dressed to the nines (Naruto, too, for him anyway), but also how he reciprocated when she ran her hand along his arm. He was blushing and trying to pull of the cool guy act. If this was just another fangirl, he wouldn’t put that much work into it, surely.
They talked and laughed a few minutes more before clasping hands and ducking under the flap to take their respective stools in Ichiraku.
Definitely a date.
Hinata let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding and turned away from the flowers. The stall server was disappointed but quickly turned to another customer.
Story of my life.
A sudden flare of chakra had her spinning around and she found herself suddenly face to face with Sasuke Uchiha. Had he seen her stalking his friend? There was nothing but his usual aloof stare on his face as he silently appraised her. But she knew. He knew. And the shame of it made her body shake with both anger and humiliation. So, she did the only thing her body was willing to do in that moment.
Hinata ran away.
She took to the rooftops and pushed herself to her limit, trying to get away from Naruto. From Sasuke. Her tears dried on her face by the time she found herself at Team Eight’s old training ground. She wiped at them then found her favourite oak tree and sat down. Even under the shade, the sun was warm and comforting on her skin. She basked in it, closing her eyes.
This time, Hinata felt him arrive. But she didn’t feel childish enough to tell him to go away. She opened her bleary eyes and looked up at him, shielding her eyes from the sun. He looked radiant, with the curve of the blinding light almost silhouetting him. Sasuke moved forward to better block the rays and she lowered her arm.
“Why are you h-here?”
He moved out of the way of the sun and Hinata shaded her eyes quickly. Sasuke always did have a thing for being dramatic. She turned to look at him as he sat down on the grass next to her. He didn’t answer at first, staring up into the sun like it didn’t bother him at all. Nothing ever seemed to bother him. Finally, he sighed.
“I told you so.”
The floodgates opened. She broke down. Hinata couldn’t stop it. She pulled her legs up to her chest and hugged herself, her face in her knees as she cried. She wasn’t upset at him. Only herself. Hinata didn’t react when Sasuke shifted his bum to press his side against her and gave her a one-armed hug. Her head lolled to rest on his shoulder as he pulled her closer to himself, but she didn’t relent on the tears. His hand was large and warm against her, making Hinata cry even more.
Eventually, she stopped shaking and sniffled heavily.
She hated that he could get over their argument so easily and yet she was still plagued with doubts about how she’d acted. How rude he’d been. Hinata gave herself a few silent moments to compose herself before sliding out of his grip and wiping her face. Hinata rose shakily to her feet and gave him a slight bow.
“Thank-you Uchiha-san. I can see myself home now. Good day.”
He watched silently as she walked away solemnly.
  .:.
  Depression.
.
She avoided every member of Team Kakashi for weeks. Hinata couldn’t avoid Kakashi forever however, as the Hokage called her in for a pep talk – his version, rather, which was to ask her if she wanted a mission outside of Konoha. “To get away for a while. You could treat it like a vacation.”
Did everyone know about her problems? Kakashi probably just knew because of the other members of his former team, but it felt like a spotlight was suddenly shining on her and the whole world had gathered to watch her humiliation. She understood his concern. Hinata would think less of him if he hadn’t been. But she couldn’t deal with being this exposed right now.
“No thank-you, Hokage-sama,” she’d said, bowing lower than usual. “I am expected to join father in a mission soon and it would be disrespectful of me to leave Konoha right now.”
He just stared back at her for a moment but eventually nodded his head slowly.
Naruto’s voice interrupted them, suddenly bouncing off the walls as if he was standing right there and making Hinata jumped. But the loud blond was actually just booming down the hall outside.
“Hang on,” Kakashi said, then stood and disappeared out of the room.
Hinata could hear them talking, and Naruto’s whining voice and something about Ichiraku. Naruto yelled out, “woo-hoo!”.
Lord Hokage is trying to get rid of him for me.
But it sounded like he was too excited to get the hint.
Hinata couldn’t stand the pity. The deep, painful feeling that churned in her gut and worked its way up through her body like acid reflux. Hinata stumbled slightly from the physical shock of it. Kakashi meant well and she understood this, but it just made her feel so small.
She couldn’t let people cover for her anymore. Hinata realised that was what people had been doing. Trying to help her by keeping them apart. But all that had done was blind her to the truth. She loved her friends, but this was not the way to moving on. She had to be braver than this. Steeling herself, Hinata pushed her shoulders back and pushed the doors open, leaving the Hokage's office. Kakashi looked surprised to see her come out. His former student went silent upon seeing her, then started fidgeting.
“Hinata…” Naruto trailed off, rubbing the back of his head.
But Hinata ignored him, her chin high and face resolutely forward. She would not give herself the opening to fall back into the comfort of lies. She would not regress. She was stronger than this, damnit! Nobody said anything else as she left the Hokage Tower. When she was out of sight, Hinata finally breathed, shaking her arms to release the tension. Fighting the tears that threatened to spill over.
“I need to go home,” she said to herself, shivering. A storm was on its way, and she didn’t want to walk home soaking wet. She picked up the pace and quickly entered the front gates of the Hyuuga compound. The rain started pelting down the moment they closed behind her, and she sighed deeply. The guards nodded to her, and she smiled at them with all the warmth she could muster.
The grounds of the Hyuuga compound were beautiful no matter what time of year it was. Even in the moist air they came alive. Hinata walked through the covered walkways between the houses, mulling over what she’d just done.
I ignored Naruto-kun.
She’d never done that before. And she had no idea how to deal with it. A part of her wanted to break down again. The other was feeling light as air. Free. Hinata could feel the emotion building up inside her again so hurried into her room and slid the door closed, before anyone could see her. She carefully placed her sandals on the shoe rack and pulled a coat from her wardrobe. The temperature had plummeted, so she sent out her chakra to get the attention of a servant and had them bring her a hot chocolate. Once she found herself alone, she sat on the window seat of her study and stared out through the glass window at the rain below her, hugging the hot chocolate to herself as she took tentative sips.
She was just daydreaming about figures dancing in the rain when she spotted something.
A figure walking in the rain. It was definitely male, his hands in his pockets and exuding chakra from his body to keep the rain at bay. She could sense it faintly, even from this distance. It reminded her of that mission so long ago when she’d been encased in crystal and would’ve died if she hadn’t expelled chakra from her chakra points. It was an easy thing for a Hyuuga to do, but this person wasn’t a Hyuuga.
They paused and looked up toward her. She couldn’t see his face clearly because of how hard the rain was coming down but Hinata was sure now: it was Sasuke. Hanabi was right. She kept watching as he slowly turned away and continued walking. Had he seen her? Did she want him to? Did it even matter?
Yes. Yes. And emphatic yes.
She had no idea why, but yes. Hinata wanted him to care enough to take the long way home that took him past the Hyuuga gates. He was the only one telling her the things she needed to hear. Even Hanabi’s questions weren’t as blunt as they should be. Sasuke was the only one not pitying her. She found she hated pity. She appreciated him so much in that moment. More than she’d appreciated him before.
Hinata swallowed heavily, palming her hand against the glass windowpane as his figure disappeared into the haze of the heavy rain.
“Sasuke.”
  .:.
  Acceptance.
.
All she felt now was exhaustion. She had just run a marathon and dragged herself through most of it, but eventually the energy would return. Her body would recover, and her mind would follow suit. She hoped. She had put so much of her energy into the life she’d imagined with Naruto.
Hinata was surprised she hadn’t snapped much earlier. Looking back, it was obvious this wasn’t going to happen.
He hadn’t left her for someone else. Because they’d never been an item. Her heart still wrenched at the thought of what might’ve been, but she was finally taking those steps to let him go. She had no business shoving him into her heart anyway. Hanabi told her, “You’re finally accepting your grief” when she told her and gave her the warmest hug she’d ever received. It almost made her break down again.
Then Hanabi asked her about Sasuke.
“Sasuke-kun?”
He looked up as she approached, seemingly surprised that she’d sought him out this time. Normally it was him hounding her. No, that wasn’t the right word. He didn’t hound her. He wasn’t some obsessed fanboy. She smiled at that. No, Sasuke was a good friend. She swallowed heavily at the weird sensation that sentence had induce in her gut.
Friend.
The word didn’t sound right either.
So, she’d tracked him down, only to find him in the Uchiha compound graveyard. She almost turned around and left right then, to give him privacy, but figured if he could interrupt her when she was doing something important then she could do the same.
“Hinata?”
He didn’t complain as she knelt next to him and offered a prayer to the headstone he was sitting in front of. It had his parents name on it. She closed her eyes and silently wished them well in the afterlife, then opened her eyes and turned to look at him.
“I was looking for you.”
“Obviously. Why?”
She smiled. “Why not?”
He scoffed, but she didn’t lose her smile. He stared back at her before finally relenting and offering up his own light smile. They both turned back to the headstone and silence reigned for a while. It was comfortable and companionable.
“I’m leaving Konoha.”
She was surprised. “Where will you go?”
“I have a mission.”
Hinata frowned. “Lord Hokage is letting you on missions outside the village?”
He pulled a face and she almost giggled. “Kakashi has little choice.”
This told Hinata that the mission was international. She was suddenly burning with curiosity, but held back because, likely, it was top-secret. And she wasn’t in the know on top-secret missions. The inner circle of the Hokage was always a tight, handful of people and this Hokage was no different. She had no doubt that the rest of his former team knew what he was going to be doing.
“It’s just politics,” he offered, sitting back on his bum now and pulling mindlessly at the grass. “Nobody but I can do it, apparently.”
He didn’t look happy about it. Hinata was quite enjoying his openness right now.
“And it’s for an indefinite amount of time.”
She nodded but he wasn’t paying her any mind. It wasn’t personal so she didn’t take it to heart. She wondered how long he’d be gone. If Hinata was honest with herself, she was going to miss him. Before he got involved with her problems, she wouldn’t have really cared either way. But things were different now. Every day since that evening, she’d seen him in the rain, she’d sat at her window and watched him walk by. Every time he stopped and looked up at her, she swore she could feel his eyes on her. Like he knew she was watching him too.
“What’s the mission?”
Why did I just ask that?
She’d held back because it wasn’t her place. Was she really this desperate to know all about him?
Sasuke stood slowly and stared down at her. “Agree to come with me first.”
“What?” She scrambled to her feet.
“Agree to come with me and I’ll tell you all about it.”
He was serious. She frowned. “But Hokage-sama–”
“Kakashi already offered you an out. He won’t complain about you finally taking it.”
“I’m not approved for the mission.”
“You don’t have to be.” He stepped closer to her, and she felt rooted to the spot. His eyes were intense on hers and in the back of her mind she realised she was seeing a side to Sasuke that few ever did. It was intense. The way he looked at her would haunt her dreams if she said no.
She shivered. If I take too long to answer, will he beg?
His comment had a “they don’t have to know” vibe. Like they were runaways. Star-crossed lovers. She felt herself flush at the thought of that. The idea of going with him sounded exciting if not terrifying. But the idea of staying here, not knowing when she would see him again, was worse.
“You can return to Konoha anytime you want,” he added, stepping impossibly closer. “To whatever life you think you will have back here. Or you can come with me, do some good for the village without having to deal with all the shit you’ve been going through.”
Her eyes widened in surprise. His verbal acknowledgement of her problems seemed so out of character for him. But she was grateful and offered a small smile, which he quickly returned, also to her surprise.
Who is this man standing in front of me, asking me to basically run away with him?
It would be a huge undertaking and she had no idea what she was getting herself into. But suddenly, the rush of the unknown wasn’t so scary to her. It would be an adventure. One with purpose. And perhaps, she could find a little of herself out there. With him.
Hinata widened her smile and nodded. “Okay.”
He was full of surprises, because the next thing she knew, Sasuke’s hands were cupping her face. Her mouth opened slightly in shock, and he licked his lips before slowly moving in toward her. He was giving her time to pull away and change her mind. Hinata didn’t take it, closing her eyes as his mouth gently pressed against hers.
She should’ve seen this coming. This was why Sasuke had even bothered to give her the time of day. This was what all their little moments had been leading up to. This odd feeling of belonging was reciprocated.
I am so blind.
The taste of salt mixed in with the taste of him as she deepened the kiss. But for once, they were happy tears.

You're a chicken. If you fall, you can glide to safety and you run slightly faster than the average human. However, you need to sleep in high places (so your home is a birdhouse) and you are bound to veganism.
Additional Power: Hasn’t discover anything new yet.
Weapon(s) of Choice: He wouldn’t consider his farming tools (axe, hoe, sickle, hammer) as a weapon. As the story progress, he found a bow and started using it, practicing as the archer.
.
.
-Appearance-
Eye Color: Black
Hair Color: Cocoa-red with a bit of dolly-yellow on a few strands.
Hair Length: Pretty long, even the braids still reach just above his hips. He also has an ahoge on top of his head.
Skin Tone: Brown
Height: 157 cm
Weight: 51 kg
Wardrobe: Despite being a farmer, Jonah looks more like a pilot. He wears a white shirt with camouflage long-sleeve underneath a marigold-yellow short-sleeved jacket, along with camouflage pants. Around his neck is a cocoa-red scarf with a single with line and a tan goggles on top of his head.
.
.
-Personality-
Jonah, at his core, is a nice guy, however he has a hard time to showing it after years being told to be careful around humans. He’s hot-headed and would argue even when he doesn’t understand the full detail of the problems. He wouldn’t back down without a fight and would always believe in what he thinks is right, making him a bit stubborn in nature.
Contrast to what people believe, Jonah is a good listener. While he tried his best not to get to close, he’s willing to lend an ear and listen to people woes. Bonds is a very precious and fragile thing for him.  He doesn’t want to be called clingy, but he adores touches. Physical affections like hair ruffle or just a simple pat on the shoulders, he adores them. In exchange, once you’re close enough, he would often cups his hands around someone’s cheeks and gives praise. When he got very attached to someone, he would be the most loyal person you could ever find. When the time comes, he’s willing to fight anyone who dare to bother those who he cares. He isn’t the type to seek revenge, but he won’t forget what they had done.
He also has an insecurities inside him. He’s sometimes see himself as something less, especially being an avian among the others, more powerful hybrids. He might feel useless from the lack of special talent and afraid of being the burden in the gang. He hates it when he can’t do anything during the battle because of his lacking fighting experience. That’s why he tried to get too attached. It would hurt less if one day the gang decides to kick him out.
.
.
-Background-
Jonah is born from the pair Benjamin Argentum (human) and Dinah Goldstein (avian hybrid). Benjamin’s parent weren’t the most accepting with hybrid, so the two young lovers often meet in secret. It was until one day Dinah showed up without her duck wings, claiming that she was willing to give up her duck wings in order to be with Benjamin, Thus they got married and moved away to Leaf Village.
However, it seemed that the pain of the wing cutting resurface, leading Dinah to her death after giving birth to Jonah, who grew feathers on his back. He’s also a hybrid, an avian. Benjamin raised Jonah as a single father, calling him ‘little duckling’. They’re always wary when going to the village despite them being nice. Jonah had been taught to not ever show his wings when he go to the village. Because of his avian trait, which means he can’t eat meat, Jonah was taught how to farm and cook by his father.
However, one day, when his father went out to chop some wood, a storm hit and a tree came crashing down, killing him. Jonah was an orphan. Even when the village (who still doesn’t know about his hybrid blood) offer him a place to stay, he decline, saying that the farm needs someone to take care.
.
.
-Relationship-
Benjamin Argentum
Father and son. Jonah is very close to his father who raised him by himself after his mother died in child birth. His father taught him everything. He was destroyed when his father died, however he quickly pick himself up and take care of the farm, his only inheritance.
The Villagers of Leaf Village
Close acquaintance but Jonah learn not to get too close, afraid that they will find out his wings. One day, he heard some town folks gossiping their disdain to hybrids, which made Jonah wary as he is an avian. He isn’t that close to the kids his age because of that and only come to the village when he need to stock-up or festivals
The Hybrid Kids Gang in General
Partner in travel and his second family. He’s very comfortable with them despite being the only two boys there. Relaxed that he can spread his tiny wings without worrying of getting shun at. Though sometimes, he felt ashamed how the girls can fight better than him. He personally request one of them to teach him in archery, so he ca fight along side them.
.
.
-Like & Dislike-
Like:
Trees
Jonah loves climbing tree despite being a duck. He would often take a nap up in the tree, not really worry about falling down because he can just slow-fall/glide .
No-Mayo Potato Salad
Potato salad is his comfort food and would eat at least once a week every weekend. Because being an avian means he’s a vegetarian, he can’t eat mayonnaise.
Swimming
He’s a duck, being in a pond is a basic need for him. In addition, his wings has the characteristic of duck wings so it can’t get wet.
Dislike:
Being Useless
Jonah would often try to do something. He just can’t stay silent even for a minute. It make him feel useless and a burden.
Meat
Just don’t eat meat in front of him. It’s very disrespectful.
Being called Chicken
And just don’t call him chicken. He’s a duck, dammit!
.
.
-Trivia-
Because his lack of fighting skill, he make it up as the (future) emotional support of the team and travelling-cook.
When he’s angry, his voice become higher and sounds more like Donald Duck.
When he’s going out from his house, he would be wearing a cape to hide his wings.
He found the bow and arrow when the gang were once again chased, deciding to learn how to fight.
In the middle of the story, he cuts his hair, symbolizing his want grow in defending himself, not wanting to be a burden to the team and learning to trust people.
He’s pretty content with his life before the start of his story, however as he travels, learns new things he never thought of before, and bonds with the others, Jonah doesn’t really want to go back to the silent, albeit peaceful, times. He still wants a peaceful farm life, but he wants to share it with his friends. It wasn’t so lonely now. So, he doesn’t mind if they go on another journey as long as they’re together.

Who is Madara Uchiha?
Tumblr media
Madara Uchiha is a fictional antagonist of the anime series and manga Naruto, 📚 he is actually the greatest leader of the Uchiha clan as well as the co-founder of the Hidden Leaf Village, Konoha. After fighting Hashirama for the title of the First Hokage, he is diagnosed dead , but eventually appears later in the series as Tobi. Simply because Obito was posing as Madara uchiwa during the heyday of Akatsuki. ☁️
Madara history
Tumblr media
Madara grew up in constant competition with her younger brother, Izuna Uchiha . Both have been recognized as the most talented members of their clan. Their competition led them to obtain the Mangekyō Sharingan , 👁️ and with it, they were able to take control of the Uchiha clan. Although members of the Uchiha clan possess a powerful chakra, Madara and her brother's chakra were exceptional. 🌊 Under his leadership, the clan was almost indestructible. During a fight against the Senju clan, the Mangekyō Sharingan of Madara uchiha inflicted severe consequences on his body, due to its excessive use. One of them was losing her eyesight, 🦯 Madara kept her Mangekyō Sharingan active throughout the fight  which caused her to lose her eyesight. He therefore transplanted the eyes of his mortally wounded brother, by the brother of Hashirama, in order to thus obtain the eternal Mangekyou Sharingan.
The founding of the hidden village of Konoha
Tumblr media
Years later, the Uchiha clan faced endlessly against the powerful Senju clan. ⚔️ To end the incessant fighting, the leader of the Senju, Hashirama Senju, approached the Uchiha clan with a proposal for a truce . Although Madara did not desire peace with the Senju, her clan members wanted a ceasefire, 🔥 and Madara had no choice but to accept their decision. The Senju and Uchiha, along with all the clans they had conquered, then united to form the Hidden Leaf Village. Against Madara's will, the villagers chose to elect Hashirama as the first Hokage . 👑 While he was a Konoha ninja, Madara went to Iwagakure and addressed a young man named Ōnoki accompanied by the Tsuchikage of the time and his guardian, where they were informed that despite the alliance that 'he had made a deal with the Senju, his people 🚻 would remain subject to the power of the Senju.
Battle against Hashirama
Tumblr media
Madara feared that Hashirama was oppressing the Uchiha people, and tried to rally the Uchiha clan to his cause in an effort to challenge his leadership. However, instead of helping him, the Uchiha turned their backs on him , believing his motives were due only to pride and the desire to gain more power. 💪 Abandoned by his clan, Madara left the village swearing revenge; after returning to challenge Hashirama to battle. They fought in the Valley of the End, and although Madara appealed to Kyubi , 🦊 he was defeated by Hashirama and diagnosed as dead. Despite his defeat in this battle, he managed to survive and obtain some of Hashirama's DNA , 🧬 which he transplanted within his wounds. As he slowly approached a natural death, he suddenly woke up with the Rinnegan. He also acquired the Mokuton and now possessed the DNA of the Uchiha and Senju. By awakening these Dojutsu, he gained the ability to summon the demonic statue from the outer path, which he used as a catalyst to cultivate Hashirama Senju cells. He later transplanted his Rinnegan into a boy named Nagato without his knowing it, and then replaced his left eye with a new Sharingan. 👁️
Madara personality
Tumblr media
When Madara was still a child , he was regarded as kind, somewhat temperamental and competitive . He was a sensitive shinobi who cared both for his family and for others. Madara was very emotional and couldn't stand being laughed at. He also tended to cry when Hashirama teased him, because he was unable to ricochet on the river. 🏞️ The very first time we met Madara Uchiha in the Manga, he was described as a power thirsty person eager for revenge. He did not procrastinate when he had to kill his friends or when he tried to recover the hidden village of Konoha. But according to Madara, his sole purpose was actually to protect members of the Uchiha Clan. Throughout the Naruto saga, several ninjas have described Madara Uchiha's personality. When Itachi told Sasuke about him, he told him that he was a dark Shinobi,  🌑  thirsty for power. According to Kyubi, Madara possessed a much softer chakra than hers. It would appear that Madara represents hatred and the dark side of the Naruto saga.
Madara's appearance
Madara uchiha has a fairly fair complexion as well as black hair with a slightly bluish tint. When he was still a teenager, his hair was shoulder-length and his dress code was that of the Uchiha clan ; 🌔 that is, a fairly large shirt and the badge of his clan worn on his back. He also had bandages on his shins and blue pants. Madara also wore a belt that allowed her to hold onto her bag containing her ninja gear.  As time went on, her dress style changed . As he grew older, he wore a belt over his shoulder which served as receptacles for his many swords. ⚔️  Madara Uchiwa has grown into a fairly tall man with long hair. It was so long that it went to the level of his belt. He also began to wear red samurai armor similar to that of his greatest rival, Hashirama, the Hokage of Konoha. The particularity of this armor is that it protected the various vital points of his body! ❤️ After receiving Hashirama's stem cells, Hashirama Senju's head could be seen on his chest.
Madara equipment
Tumblr media
Madara is often dressed in red armor which is suitable for the battlefield , she looks very sturdy and perfect for taking a hit. He also has a pair of gloves. 🧤 Within Madara's paraphernalia, there are several weapons he is used to using like the Uchiha fan! A flashback 💡 of the anime, allowed us to see in his lair , just before his death, other weapons such as several large Shurikens, but also a saber and chains . His equipment was borrowed by Tobi to ensure his victory against various ninjas.
The meeting between Madara and Obito
Tumblr media
Madara lived for many years until the end of the Third Great Shinobi War . At the end of her life, Madara possessed a very weak body, and her only chance 🍀 to stay alive was to use the Outer Way Demon statue as a survival system. He therefore connected with the tree possessing Hashirama's genes, so that the statue could constantly provide Madara with chakra, in order to keep her alive and prevent her from instantaneous death. During this war, he found the young Obito Uchiha, and began a seemingly long healing process to save his life using Hashirama 's stem cells. Madara then ordered the white Zetsu to keep Obito alive and help him rehabilitate, so that he could be useful to him in his future awakening. After Obito returned to him as he had predicted, he took him into an illusory world and told him about the 6 powers 📜 of the Rinnegan and the Ten-tailed Beast, Jubi as well as his plan, the Eye of to the moon . He then taught him various Kinjutsu Uchiha, those of the Rinnegan and the Inyoton element. Before dying, Madara also created the Black Zetsu by imbuing her willpower into the White Zetsu. Madara then disconnects from the statue and on his last breath and  tells Obito to "befriend Nagato" so that he can be resurrected one day . ⚰️ While Madara had been dead for years, Obito as "Tobi" took possession of Madara's identity and began to perform actions on his behalf.
Madara skills
Tumblr media
Madara was one of the most powerful shinobi of his time and arguably one of the strongest ninjas of all time . 💪 Supreme Leader of Clan Uchiha, no ninja in this world can question his power. Although the Uchiha family possessed a certain talent for combat through their hereditary eye, the Sharinga. Madara tended to always push her own limits . He also possessed enormous natural potential and trained tirelessly. His skills of Katon, 🔥 of Taijutsu and his Dojutsu were of a different level compared to those of his own Clan. Additionally, with the mastery of the Eternal Mangenkyo Sharigan , 👁️ he was able to compete with the Senju Clan, but more specifically with their leader, Hashirama Senju, recognized as the strongest shinobi of his time. Madara Uchiwa is a ninja who is feared by all sane people! It has various peculiarities such as being able to feel an individual's chakra from several kilometers away, it has an extraordinary resistance capable of withstanding deadly attacks without flinching, 🛡️ but it is also able to use seals like the seal of the master puppeteer. Ninjutsu de Madara
Tumblr media
Madara Uchiwa has a predisposition for the fire element chakra 🔥 just like the other members of the Uchiha Clan. Thanks to the Rinnegan, he is also able to manipulate the different natures of the chakra. Without forgetting that his Jutsu Katon possesses a devastating power and a great range, if one compares them to the Jutsu of the other geniuses of the Uchiha clan such as Itachi or even Sasuke. This is why it took during the Fourth Great Shinobi War ⚔️ an entire division to be able to counter his Katons with the help of his natural enemy, the Suiton. it gives an idea of the power that Madara is able to develop within the Jutsu of the element of fire. In order to increase his strength, he deliberately implanted himself with stem cells 🧬 of the powerful Hashirama in order to acquire Jutsu: Mokuton. Madara is a genius , we can also see it once again on his use of Mokuton which is incredible! He is able to create large roots of lotus flowers (the scent of which is deadly to breathe) with the "forest of flowering trees" jutsu . 🌳 ( He was able to bend the 5 kage  only with this powerful Jutsu.) Just like Hashirama, he can also create undetectable clones using the Mokuton. He can also for example create up to 25 clones of himself and transform them into a powerful Susano. For reference , a single Susano 👺 clone can face five Kages. Madara is also very good at fighting the Bijû with the help of the Mokuton! For example, it is possible to create, via the Mokuton, a dragon capable of wrapping around the different Bijû and canceling their chakra. 🐉  We can say that his ability to master the Mokuton is similar to that of Hashirama ! After sealing the Divine Tree within her own body, Madara can now manipulate the various Kekkei Genkai like the Ranton, which is a mix between the Suiton and the Raiton. ⚡💦 Taijutsu
Tumblr media
Madara's Taijutsu power combined with her Sharingan is splendid ! We can see this when he destroys several lines of the Shinobi Alliance in close combat. He was able for example, in a fraction of a second, to remove a scroll 📜 from a kunai as well as return it to its user! Although he is very strong in Taijutsu, it seems that this is not his only strength in close combat, he also masters with great agility, the sword and other weapons. We had the opportunity to see his strength with a saber during the Fourth Great Shinobi War against the Number 4 Division. There is no other word than "graceful" to describe his fighting style at the body to body ! 🥊 Of course, all this is made possible thanks to his famous Sharingan, which he allows him to dodge as well as to predict the movements of his opponents and therefore reduce the chance of getting hit! Using her sword, Madara sliced up a dozen Ninjas very easily with her "dance" ability . 🩰 He then finally took his Gunbai back from Obito which he kept safe. In using this same Gunbai, Madara can eg absorb very powerful jutsu and then return them to their users. Overall, Madara Uchiwa is versatile and powerful no matter what weapon he uses! We assume that this ease comes from his long life and therefore from his incredible experience on the battlefield. 👴 It is also assumed that Hashirama's stem cells greatly enhance his Taijutsu abilities! Dojutsu Sharingan is the hereditary dojutsu of Clan Uchiha . Madara handles his sharingan like no Uchiha before him! Madara is also considered the greatest genius of the Uchiwa family. His Sharigan 👁️ awoke the very first time during a fight between the Uchiha clan and the Hashirama Senju Clan . He of course excels in mastering his hereditary Dojutsu, the Sharingan. In  using it, he can use powerful genjutsu surpassing ten times more powerful Genjutsu Itachi Uchiha and his brother, Sasuke Uchiha. It can also instantly stop a shinobi from running and therefore immobilize it. 🔓 Madara is also the only ninja of the Uchiha family to have succeeded in taking control of a Bijû, in this case Kurama with the help of his Sharingan. Mangekyô Sharingan  : Madara has used her Sharingan extremely well from a young age, it is also her handling of the sharingan that has enabled her to rise to the top of the Uchiha Clan , 🥇and thus, manage the clan with her younger brother. When he pushed the evolution of his Dojutsu to the rank of Mangekyô Sharingan, he became able to stand up to the champion of the opposing clan, Hashirama Senju. 🏆 And it is precisely this story that propelled his adventures into future generations. Like the other shinobi using the Mangekô Sharingan, Madara Uchiwa uses Amaretsu, Susano as well as the lunar arcana.   The Susano of Madara
Tumblr media
Madara's Susano is extremely powerful , single-handedly capable of fighting multiple Kage, or even chopping up a mount easily with his sword. In addition, Madara has the eyes of his brother which allowed him to reach the final evolution of the Sharingan, the Eternal Mangekyô Sharingan . 👁️‍🗨️ Thanks to this evolved form, Madara can abuse her power without suffering consequences! So he cannot go blind using techniques like Susano or Amaretsu. The only flaw of his Dojutsu is that he consumes a huge amount of Chakra . But faced with the power that this dojutsu grants to its user, it is a weak compensation! The Susano summoned by his sharingan can also serve in defense, almost indestructible, 💎 he seems to be far superior to Gaara's defense. To give you an order of how strong the defense his susano grants him, know that he resisted a punch from Raikage A. 👊  Susano's defensive capacity depends on the base power of its user . Within the Fourth Great Shinobi War, we will have the opportunity to see the final form of the Susano of Madara Uchiha, who is a humanoid! He's an incredibly tall Susano, he's over a hundred meters tall 😲 and wears armor that looks like a samurai . Its final version has four arms, 2 of which hold katana! With a blow of his katama, he was able to destroy several mountains demonstrating his gigantic strength. This susano can also be combined with Kyubi 🦊 and by combining it with the abilities of the Rinnegan, it becomes a power monster greater than 9 Bijûs! It gives its user a boost of both offensive and defensive power! Rinnegan, the most powerful of the Genkai Kekkei
Tumblr media
Just before dying, Madara Uchiha evolved her Sharingan into its most powerful form, the Rinnegan 🧿 using stem cells from the first Hokage, Hashirama Senju, which  he implanted in his body. Thanks to this power, he can manipulate the 6 powers of Pain, that includes all the techniques, advantages and abilities related to the Rinnegan . And of course, he once again shows that he is able to harness this new power 💣 with disconcerting ease compared to Nagato. During the Fourth Ninja War, he absorbed with disconcerting ease a Rasen Shuriken from Naruto! The Rinnegan coupled with the Edo Tensei
Tumblr media
On the battlefield of war, he will tell Mû that the technique of Edo Tensei, allows him to acquire a source of infinite chakra and to be immortal . 🧛‍♂️ Indeed, even if his body were to be destroyed, he would be able to recompose himself. He was also able to attract meteorites close to earth on the battlefield and successfully kill more than half of the shinobi in Kage Gaara's division. This feat was made possible by the Jutsu Chibaku Tensei or by using a similar variant. The Jutsu Chibaku Tensei makes it possible to create a sphere attracting matter, this Jutsu can therefore potentially attract stars. 🪐 His Eternal Mangekyö Sharingan, coupled with Rinnegan and Edo Tensei make him a legendary ninja comparable to a God 😱 on a battlefield. He therefore represents a very great threat to the Shinobi world! So Great that his presence prompted the Great 5 Kage to cooperate during the Fourth Great Shinobi War. Double Rinnegan
Tumblr media
When Madara recovered his second Rinnegan, he was able to use Rikudo's various abilities again to a level far exceeding our expectations. Like manipulating meteorites near the earth, using the Chibaku Tensei , 🌠 in a fraction of a second. His 2nd Rinnegan also allowed him to design several invisible shadows using the Rinbo - Hengoku. what is it good for?
pt. 1 || pt. 2 || pt. 3 || pt. 4
Every day, more and more bad news poured in.
Mafvin had thought things were turned around when they regained Aelford; the siege was broken, his daughter rescued and returned to him. His son, fighting with the mage corps, was accounted for; he’d razed one of Eola’s key fortresses to the ground.
But then, somehow, things changed.
The Eolans pressed forward. They didn’t need Aelford - Boarcross was theirs, and they poured across it, flowing around Aelford like a stream around a boulder. Allspeak fell, and so did Chaserhorn. They cut off General Liya’s battalion during the winter, trapping them in the Dragonspine, and that very nearly killed off all of them.
Every day, come spring, his councillors came to Mafvin, begging him to put a stop to all of it.
“You have thrice the magic they do, Your Majesty -”
“Your father and grandfather both fought their own wars -”
“And both died in them,” Mafvin snapped back. The advisor, a general herself, scowled at him.
“I know.” He knew. Mafvin was the most powerful mage in existence. He’d built settlements in one day. He’d grown crops for the entire country during a drought. He’d built dams and redirected overflowing rivers to save villages, he’d grown entire forests, he’d summoned lethal storms and shooed them away. He knew that. “I will not use my magic to harm others.”
General Porrin hissed something perilously close to a curse against her king. “Sire, our soldiers are dying by the score. Your son is out there, fighting. Our common folk are being slaughtered -”
“Don’t lie to me,” Mafvin snapped. “The Eolans fight honorably.”
“They were not honorable in Aelford,” Porrin retorted. Mafvin clenched his jaw as the general continued. “You could put a stop to this, Your Majesty. We’re redirecting them. We have a dozen places we can lure them to and stage battle - all we need is you, sire, just you -”
“Get out,” Mafvin said flatly, and turned away.
---
He took refuge in the rear gardens, the ones that had once belonged to his mother. There, the gardeners had long stopped trying to curb the king’s enthusiasm. Instead, they left it to him and never stepped foot inside. A place where he could let his green magic run rampant. Trees grew, bloomed, bore fruit, and withered, all in a single winter’s day; the ground was always covered in clover or flowers or grass or bramble, depending on the king’s mood. Today, everything was overgrown. Thick vines smothered the walls and the trees had grown so large and close together that their thick foliage blocked out much of the light. Ivy and thick moss hung in sheets from their branches.
Dayehmon sighed as he stepped into the garden. The vines curled all over the ground obediently shifted away from his steps, which showed that Mafvin knew he was there, and was being polite, even if he didn’t realize it. “Eos,” Dayehmon said quietly, and the king looked up from where he sat in the dark thicket, his arms wrapped around his knees like a child hiding from his tutors. Dayehmon came to join him, though he remained on his feet, one hand resting comfortably on the pommel of his sword.
Mafvin sighed and flicked a leaf with disgust. “Are you here to tell me to fight, too?” he asked, defeated.
“Gods, all right,” he complained, taking the scone. He slouched back against the tree with a scowl and nibbled at the pastry. “Thank you, mother hen.”
“I’m here because it’s my shift,” Dayehmon said wryly. He leaned against a tree, heedless of the ivy that covered it. One tendril curled over his shoulder, winding down his arm like it was looking for attention. “Have you eaten?”
“I’m not hungry.”
“Have you eaten,” Dayehmon repeated firmly, as if King Eos Mafvin of Cordel were a toddler pouting in a corner, and not the most powerful man alive. Mafvin tipped his head back to glare at Dayehmon, and was greeted with the guard shoving a scone into his face.
“You’re welcome.” Dayehmon crossed his arms over his chest, chewing on a scone of his own. They remained in comfortable silence for some time. Mafvin didn’t get enough of this companionship these days, not since this war began. He was close with much of his royal guard - but so many of them had been tapped to fight the Eolans, and instead Mafvin was brought new ones, young and bright-eyed and in awe of the man they were supposed to be guarding. Mafvin had stopped trying to break them out of their wonder and fear, and now he just sulked and let them watch from a distance. Eventually, they’d figure it out.
They’d realize he was a fool and a child and, if the muttering of his council was to be believed, a coward.
He ate the scone automatically, not tasting the sweetness despite the honey baked into it. Dayehmon had another waiting for him when he finished, and Mafvin sighed, taking it before his guard pinned him down and stuffed it into his mouth.
“Am I a coward, Tibur?” Mafvin asked, after a long moment. Dayehmon paused, looking down at him.
“I don’t think there is an answer to that question that will satisfy you, Eos,” he said finally. Mafvin scoffed.
“You can be honest,” he said, disgusted.
“I am.” Dayehmon straightened up off of the tree, carefully detangling the flowering ivy that still clung to his arm and draping it from the tree. “You’re the only one who knows that answer.”
Mafvin sighed, dropping his head back against the tree trunk. “The council thinks I am.”
“The council,” Dayehmon said flatly, “are sitting flat on their asses while they send the common folk off to war. Only three of them know what fighting’s like.”
“I’m sitting flat on my ass while I send the common folk off to war.”
Dayehmon hummed. “You are.”
Mafvin ran a hand over his face. “So you must think as little of me as you do of them.”
“Well, you’ve never called me a scarred son of a pig, so you’ve got that going for you,” Dayehmon pointed out good-naturedly. “I don’t think that little of you, Eos. Not that it matters. You are my king.”
“A king you have special dispensation to put down like a sick dog if ever you see fit,” Mafvin said dryly. Dayenmon smiled, one side of it pulled crooked by the three scars running down his cheek.
He held out a hand to Mafvin, who pulled himself to his feet with a sigh. “So. Our soldiers are going to war and being killed. That is their choice.”
Dayehmon snorted. “Now I think you’re a fool,” he said sharply. “We conscript our soldiers, Eos, you know that. Not all of them made that choice.”
Mafvin flinched, but Dayehmon was right. Mafvin had tried to overturn the conscription acts again and again, but the council refused to agree. He’d never fought in the army, they had argued. He’d never fought in the nearly constant wars against Eola, or had any idea what running a military was like. He clearly didn’t understand the necessity of conscription. He should stick to overseeing agriculture and logistics, and let his council and generals worry over such matters.
They’d said that for years, and now, they begged him to fight their war for them.
“I could end the fighting,” Mafvin said, looking down at his hands. “That’s what they all tell me. I could end it all. I could march into Eola and take Kydrei whenever I wish.”
“I suppose you could,” Dayehmon agreed. Mafvin continued as if he hadn’t said anything.
“I could kill them all. It would be easy. Eola is pushing because they don’t fear me. They don’t fear me, because I’ve never brought my magic against them.” Mafvin paced, thick, tangled grass and weeds blossoming under each step, only to be trampled again when he turned in his little circle. Dayehmon reached up to pluck an apple off the tree above him, nestled among out-of-season flowers. “They believe my power is diminished if I leave the heart of the country - I suppose the council’s spies managed one good thing over the years,” he added dryly.
“More likely the soldiers believe that, and the generals have some idea of how to deal with you when they get here,” Dayehmon mused.
“I - I don’t want to kill anyone, Tibur.” Mafvin stopped to look at him, despair in his leaf-green eyes. “I’ve hurt enough people already. Vitalia bears the scars of my mistakes, I - I’ve sworn to do everything I can to avoid killing with my magic.”
Dayehmon eyed the apple. “And you’ve tried to end the wars.”
Mafvin gave a sharp laugh. “Not that it’s helped anything,” he said scornfully.
“But you’ve tried,” Dayehmon pressed. He gave a sigh of his own. “I don’t have an answer for you, Eos. They see you as a weapon. As magic incarnate, and nothing else. A means to an end. The same way they see the soldiers.”
Mafvin remained silent, staring into the cluster of trees. They groaned and creaked, though there was no wind to make them shifted so. The ground shuddered under his feet; a breeze picked up, rattling the tree branches and fluttering the moss and ivy.
Dayehmon watched him, and the restlessness of nature around the king; small lights winked on and off among the trees like fireflies in the middle of the day. He was sure Mafvin had no idea.
“I don’t think you’re a coward,” Dayehmon said, at last. “I think you have an impossible choice to make. They see your magic, but that’s all they see. I don’t have magic, just blood. I see what the soldiers would see. Death.”
Mafvin flinched at that, and looked down at his hands. He was rarely still, but he’d stayed in one place long enough that a vine crept up his legs, wrapping around his arm and flowering in his palm. Dayehmon scuffed his feet as he stepped over, placing a hand on Mafvin’s arm.
“There’s going to be death either way,” Dayehmon said quietly. “You have to decide whether the cost of action or inaction is worth the toll yourself.”
He gave Mafvin’s arm a comforting squeeze, then looked up as the gate to the gardens creaked open. A servant cleared her throat, bowed, and said, “Your Majesty, the Queen wishes to invite you for tea.”
---
Mafvin knew what side the queen had taken.
She’d been more involved with the council than ever during the war, speaking with them in meetings Mafvin was carefully not told about. They all feigned innocence when he asked why he wasn’t summoned. “We did, of course,” one councilor would say anxiously. “Perhaps the message was misplaced.”
The queen would widen her blue eyes and suggest, “We had assumed you’d be off on one of your jaunts anyway, my love.”
My love. They had never loved each other, and everyone knew it. Yet she always fell back to her pet names, her condescending terms of endearment. Even the children had long stopped believing there was any affection between them.
Of course, it wasn’t as if the council’s assumptions were unfounded. Mafvin hated council meetings, hated war meetings, hated anything where he had to sit still and focus for longer than ten minutes. He hated being king.
The queen’s gardens were neat and orderly, a sharp contrast to the sprawling mess that Mafvin’s magic shaped without thinking. He stepped out onto a perfectly manicured path of crushed white gravel - crystals, really, ones that he’d summoned from the earth himself to please her, and to burn off his magic one foggy autumn morning. Maybe he didn’t truly love her, but there was no reason not to try to please her.
At least, there used to be no reason.
She sat at a small iron-wrought table, one Mafvin had crafted after spending a month with the iron-smiths in the capital. Tea had been set out, and she looked up from the table with a smile when she heard his footsteps on the path.
“I hear,” she said, her voice as lyrical as a brook, “that my husband has decided to be a coward.”
Mafvin stopped short.
“Is that so,” he answered, his tone flat. The queen smiled at him and gestured to the other chair.
“Would you like to sit, or pace about like an unruly child, as you usually do?” she asked. Mafvin twitched his fingers, and the teapot poured for them both, one teacup floating towards him.
“Why do you want me to fight so badly?” he asked, deciding to just get straight to the point. “Hoping I’ll be killed, so you can take the throne?”
During the more pleasant days of their relationship, it would have been nothing more than a playful jab - she and Mafvin knew why they’d been married to each other. But now, there was a snide, sharp weight to the words. The queen stiffened, tilting her chin. Mafvin watched her as he sipped at his tea, and nearly apologized - but why should he, anyway? They’d never loved each other. It was merely tolerance.
“No,” she said, after too long a silence, her voice curt. “I want to end this war. Which I had thought was your goal, as well. You always say how tired you are of the fighting.”
“I was tired of the fighting long before this conflict ever began,” Mafvin snapped. He let go of the teacup, but it remained in place, with nothing but his magic to support it. “I was tired of the fighting when it was my grandfather who had the throne, and I was just learning what a sword was meant for. But you - all if you, the council, the damned country - you all kept pushing and poking at them, at the border, and now see where we are!”
“Here, with the Eolans knocking on our front door,” she retorted, “and the best man to stop them refusing to care for his people.
Mafvin sucked in an angry breath. The gravel shifted beneath his feet, and the teacup wavered next to him. “Do not,” he seethed, “accuse me of not caring. Everything I have done, I have done for my people.”
“Except keep them safe from those marauders,” the queen snapped back. “You see the news from the front before any of us. You hear what is coming on the winds, what the animals chatter about. You see the blood that soaks the Finns. Don’t pretend you’re keeping them safe with your inaction.”
Mafvin’s jaw clenched, his hands curling into fists. The teacup trembled, and then some invisible force crushed it into perfect dust.
The tea never hit the ground, but instead swirled around, ridding itself of teacup fragments before it streamed through the air and back into the teapot. It was guided not by the king, but by his wife, her fingers directing the liquid back down the spout of the ceramic teapot.
Water. The most powerful water mage in the Eastern Quarter. ‘To nourish the green magic of the king,’ they’d proclaimed at the wedding ceremony, as if the entire court were pretending this was not a marriage to breed even more powerful mages than Mafvin himself.
She was as nourishing as seawater. Mafvin was more likely to drown in one of her storms, than to ever be bolstered.
“Eos,” she said flatly. “The Eolans tortured and killed the governor of Aelford, his family, and the people of his city. When they finally reach Finns, what do you think they will do then?”
She stood, her skirts not quite brushing the ground. “Will you let them march in? Will you raise your magic against them then? I suspect you will not, because of your fear and cowardice. You’ll leave the fighting to us.”
“And yet,” Mafvin returned, his voice sharp, “you are still here, my darling wife. You, who could bring the entire river Finns against them, or choke them with a fog. I don’t see you marching off to the front lines, with the mages you so happily conscripted. Why should I go while you stay behind, and drink your damned tea?”
The teapot rattled, cracks forming in the ceramic; the tea began to leak through in droplets, and then the entire thing exploded - and flash-froze just as quickly, leaving a chunk of iced ceramic and tea in the center of the little table.
The queen pursed her lips. Mafvin tried to feel smug, but he couldn’t quite bring himself to it. Goading her into losing control of her magic used to be a victory, but now he just felt empty and angry. They never loved each other, but at least they used to like each other. What had changed?
“I will do what is necessary,” the queen said, quietly savage. She gathered up her skirts and stalked past Mafvin, disappearing down the winding path back towards the castle.
He didn’t watch her leave, but remained there, staring at the frozen tea and broken ceramic until his vision blurred. He blinked once, twice, then wiped at his eyes.
The frozen liquid softened, swirling upwards and letting the shattered pieces of the teapot lower gently to the table. Mafvin stepped over, picking up the shards with his hands and his magic, trying to piece them back together. His result was a cracked vessel. He wasn’t exactly a potter, just like he wasn’t exactly an ironsmith, or a miner, or a soldier, or a king.
All the magic in the world, and Mafvin couldn’t fix any of this.
His wife’s voice floated back to him through the gardens. She wasn’t talking to him, but her beautiful voice always carried like a stream’s trickling.
“Ah, Vitalia!” The queen sounded bright and cheery as she greeted their eldest daughter. Mafvin barely heard Vitalia’s murmured reply, and the sound of a door opening. “Have you heard? We’re sending you to the Summer Palace, until this whole nasty business with the Eolans is settled.”
The queen’s voice faded as they walked inside. “You’ll be safe there, my dearest.”

Chapter 5 - Proper Apologies
With her eyes half-closed, Kasumi stared at what was above her for a while until she recognized the white painting of the ceiling of her room. She turned on the bed and found out she felt little pain. Her body was heavy, and it was like her legs were going to be took over by cramps if she made the slightest efforts.
She remained in bed, trying to remember what happened the other day. It wasn’t difficult; her body might be tired and maybe it will take time for her to restore her chakra, but her mind was working as fast as her invisible blades.
First, he was coming back home with her colleagues and killed a snake hidden among the foliage; the memory of that animal sent chills down her body. After that, despite the growing cold of the night, she went to visit her mother’s tomb. Genma showed up right a moment later. They talked… about what? The nightmares, of course. For some reason, the restraint seal applied on her mind by the Hokage was broken, and she didn’t have more complications because her friend forced her to seek for the old shinobi that night. The Hokage reprehended her for her imprudence and then created a new seal for Kasumi. With this seal, her thoughts were purified and her mind was functioning without obstructions. But she couldn’t remember the whole process. Maybe she fell asleep before it was completed. Judging by her state right now, that was the most likely to have occurred.
And finally, she was at home. How? Genma might had brought her.
With big efforts, she sat on the bed and looked around. Silence. The room was empty except for her, but the window was left open. He might left through it.
Kasumi stared at the window. But the direction of the light coming in, it must be past noon. Of course, the sealing was tiring even when one was in their regular physical conditions and with a decent amount of chakra available; but, in her circumstances, she shouldn’t expect less than several hours of unconsciousness
She bent her knees and surrounded them with her arms, leaning her chin on them. She was thinking about the conversation she had with Genma at the cemetery, and the uneasiness she felt there was the same that sat in her heart now.
Kasumi has been reckless lately, which might had weakened the seal, but she didn’t think it was enough to break it; anyway, everything would be under control if she worked for it, and there would be nothing to worry about. She was sure of this; it was all she was trying to say yesterday. Convincing Genma, however, was another story.
Somehow, he always knew when she was doing less for herself than she should, but he never tried to induce her with words; instead, he took his time to motivate her to act. He always has been like this; the philosophy that moved him was that if someone has a problem and knows what it has to be done, there was no choice but to do it. Of course this had already been a reason for disagreement between them: when they were younger, his little inclination to long conversations used to annoy her; he seemed to not understand that the reason for his efforts not always succeed was that, to her, there is too much that one has to do before taking any actions.
But now that Kasumi counted on experience and comprehension, she felt grateful.
It was possible that Genma didn’t know, but he had already done more for her that can be calculated, even when he didn’t perfectly understand her. He might act as if it wasn’t that important because of their friendship, but she had a different opinion. And maybe it was the time for her to understand what he has been trying to tell her all this time: she should not lean on excuses and self-pity when she has a choice. If she didn’t want to feel that guilt anymore, a bit of action was a proper beginning.
When she felt capable, Kasumi left her bed and walked on the room to reach the window. The sunlight disturbed her eyes a little, and she protected them with her hand. The village was peaceful as far as she could see. That eased part of her fears.
She was about to leave the room when she stopped beside the bed table. She spotted some objects that weren’t there yesterday. The first two were identical: two small bottles with labels that identified them as medicines; under one of them was a piece of paper with instructions. But they weren’t the only ones.
The girl bit her lip when she recognized the last one: a senbon. If Genma had left it there, it was because he meant to come that day.
And she had to prepare herself.
***
That bath brought more benefits than Kasumi thought a bath was capable of bringing. Compared to the tiredness she felt every step she took since she left the bed, the freshness she felt now made her think she could float around the house; her muscles were restored and the pain was gone after a while.
She reached the kitchen feeling her stomach squirm inside her; her last meal was in the woods the last day. The clock on the wall marked 15:30. it was later than she thought when she looked at the room’s window. Was it possible that Genma already came and, seeing everything closed except for that window, he saw she was sleeping and left? She could never know. But, well, she sensed that he still didn’t come. And even if that was the case, soon or later he would come to get his senbon.
Kasumi got back to her room to take it and then put it on the table. She opened the kitchen’s window and left the afternoon sun enter. Then she started to separate ingredients and bowls, for she already decided what she was going to make.
***
She was concentrated on the task before her, immersed in the smell of the spices that she just mixed to what was already on the pan, but she knew the precise moment when he arrived.
- Is this really what I think it is?
Genma’s voice was so cheerful that Kasumi had to stop her work and turn to him, who was sitting at the window, his left foot on its stop, his right one dangling on the inner side. There were only a few things that lightened his mood as seeing someone making pumpkin broth.
She laughed.
- It seems that summoning you is not as difficult as you want people to think, right?
He left the window and passed around the table. Seeing his senbon, he took it back and put in on his mouth. He approach to see the pan’s content, but Kasumi pushed him, still laughing.
- Hey! – he complained, but with a smile – I want to make sure everything is okay!
- Take a sit on the table and wait to see!
He grumbled and picked a chair for himself. No one talked for a long time.
The table was ready, the plates and cutlery in their right places. Genma kept passing the senbon from one side to another on his mouth, then said suddenly:
- You’ve been on your feet for a while.
That was true, judging by the work Kasumi was already doing before his arrival: the organization of the table and the preparation of the recipe didn’t take little time, but the girl didn’t think this detail should be brought up like this. Anyway, she understood what was implied.
- I wasn’t feeling well when I woke up, but I’m better now – she replied without taking her eyes off the pan – I’m feeling strong enough to cook my own meals. But I know I’ll have to stay at home for some days.
- The Hokage knows that. And that’s exactly why he left those instructions. Well, actually he didn’t have the time to write them down, so I did it once I got the chance.
- I see – and, after a while – You know, I’m still tired, and I’d rather make something simpler. But I had to do this. I want it to work as a proper apology, so it has to be done.
Noticing that Genma didn’t reply, Kasumi looked over her shoulder and smiled.
- I’m talking about the soup, of course.
- Yes, I got it – he replied – But I can’t help thinking that you apologize too often.
The answer didn’t come immediately. She turned and approached the table. Then, taking the plate before him, she filed it with the broth and brought it back. She was no longer smiling.
- Yes, I think I do. But I can’t help it, since you always say it is not necessary – Kasumi walked around the table and took her own plate – Genma. I’d like you to understand that, to me, it is necessary. So, please, accept my apologies. At least this time.
He wasn’t smiling too. He left his senbon beside the plate.
- Very well. I accept them.

Give Him A Chance To Mend 5
Time for another chapter, people 😁

Chapter 5: Here In This Hell It's Sinking In
Varian didn't fight back, as the guards locked his arms in shackles and pushed him inside the prison cart. There was no point. His automatons were destroyed, he had no alchemy… and the Princess' hair didn't free his father, as he hoped they would.
Ruddiger, ever faithful, scrambled after his and climbed the alchemist's frame, curling protectively around his neck. The guards either didn't notice or didn't care. They locked the door and the cart started the slow journey back to the capital.
Varian doesn't remember the trip. There is a blank spot in his memory, starting from the moment the barred door locked and ending when they opened back at the castle square. He was flanked by two guards and escorted down to the dungeons, his apron, goggles and gloves taken away. He fought them when they were taking his goggles.
"They were my mother's!" He cried. "Please, it's the only thing I have left of her."
But they were deaf to his cries. They tried to take Ruddiger too, but the raccon growled and swiped it's paws whenever any of the guards got too close, sitting stubbornly on Varian's shoulders. They let it go after one of them got scratched and the other bitten. There was no way of capturing the raccoon. It was staying.
He was led down, down, down the stairs, passing corridor after corridor of cells. The prisoners looked his way in surprise, whispers trailed his path.
"Is this a child?"
"What is he doing here?"
"Did the King lose his mind even more?"
Varian clenched his teeth and kept on going, the familiar weight on his shoulders reassuring him of his animal friend's presence.
Finally, the guards stopped in front of the small cell. There was a tiny bed by the wall, and that's it. One of the men unlocked the door and the other pushed the alchemist inside. The metal door slammed shut behind him, the key turning in the lock.
"You will stay here until the King decides your fate." One of the guards said. Then, they walked away.
It was a moment later Varian finally let his facade drop. The tough villain act fell and what was left was a terrified boy, shaking like a leaf. He slid down to the floor, the severity of his actions finally getting to him.
Treason. He commited treason. He kidnapped the Queen, endangered the life of the Princess and attempted murder on both the Queen and Princess' Lady-in-waiting and the Captain of the Guards' daughter. He can be executed. He should be executed. That's what the citizens will demand, he was sure of it.
He didn't notice he was hyperventilating until his vision started to fog. Ruddiger chittered anxiously, pawing at his face to snap him out. He reached his hand, his ungloved hand, and buried his fingers in the raccoon's fur.
He didn't want to die. His dad was still trapped in that amber. He was the only one who could get him out. He has to save his dad.
The alchemist's whole frame shook, breathing becoming faster and shallower by the second. Suddenly, a piercing pain shot from his ear. He cried out and reached for it, his fingers touching something liquid and sticky. Drastic measure, but Ruddiger managed to forcefully stop the neverending spiral Varian got himself into. The teen took several more shaky breaths, no more being stuck in a terrified state.
He was still scared, yes. But he no longer hyperventilated, so that was an improvement. Ruddiger climbed down from his shoulders and made himself comfortable on Varian's laps instead. The alchemist hugged his furry friend close, awaiting his fate.
~~~~~
He didn't know how much time he spent in that small cell. Guards came and went, checking up on him, bringing water and plates of some grey goo for him to eat, and glaring at him from behind the bars. Varian, for the most time, didn't pay attention to it, curled up in the corner, Ruddiger in his arms.
A sound of the lock opening took him by surprise. The guards didn't open the door when they brought food. Did that mean he was finally getting the trial?
Two guards were standing outside of his cell, the third one walking inside, a pair of shackles in his hand.
"Stand up, hands where I can see them." He barked. Varian obliged, seeing as his chances of escape were close to none.
The shackles locked around his wrists with a metallic click that sent shivers up the teen's spine. The guard eyed him warningly and motioned for him to start walking. As soon as he left the cell, the other two guards flanked him, each putting a hand on one of his shoulders, while the third led the way. To Varian's surprise, they didn't go up, but down again, descending to the lower level of the dungeons.
"Where are we going?" He asked. Wasn't he supposed to get a trial? Isn't that how juridical system worked?
"Your cell has been decided." The guard at the front replied, not sparing a glance at the teen.
"The cell- what about a trial? Don't I get one?" He questioned, confused about the situation.
"Shut up, alchemist." The guard barked back, anger seeping through his teeth. "Be grateful the King didn't order execution. Not for now, anyway."
"Not for now? I don't-" Varian was getting more and more confused by the second.
Before he could say anything more, the guard stopped in front of one of the cells.
"Back up and face the wall." He said. Varian was just about to oblige, when another voice sounded from behind the bars.
"Alright, alright. What's the rush?"
"You're getting a cellmate." The guard simply said and unlocked the door. He turned to Varian, unlocked his shackles and pushed the teen inside, before slamming the door shut again.
"Wait! What's going on?" The alchemist ran to the bars and gripped them, shouting after the leaving guards.
"Get used to the cell, boy." The guard called back, a smirk on his face. "Because it will be your home for the next four years."
The sadistic smile he got in response made the teen freeze in terror. The implication was obvious. In four years, he will be eighteen. A legal adult. And once that happens… there will be nothing holding the King back from ordering his execution.
"Is that a joke?" A male voice sounded from behind and Varian whirled around to face his cellmate. "Is Corona throwing kids into prison now?"
The man was in his early twenties, dark hair tied in a high bun, green eyes and wearing a fur overcoat. He stared at the alchemist with a mixture of bewilderment and annoyance.
"I'm not a kid!" Varian bit back defensively.
"Sure you aren't." The man chuckled and sat at one of the beds. "What did you do, anyway? Stole a candy or something?"
"I stole the Sundrop Flower from the Royal Vault." The teen replied angrily. "Amongst other things…" He added more quietly.
"You stole the-" The criminal stared at him dumbfounded. "Woah, I guess good old Freddy didn't take it kindly."
"Actually I'm here because I also drugged held of the castle with truth serum, kidnapped the Queen, forced the Princess into using her hair in a drill of my design, and almost killed the Queen and Princess' Lady-in-waiting." Varian blurted out, since he might as well share the full scale of his abilities to his cellmate.
"Oh, so you're this Alchemist everyone has been going on about recently." The man exclaimed and looked him over, shrugging. "I thought you would be taller."
"I'm just a proof Corona's security is so bad even a child can get through." Varian mentally slapped his face for referring to himself as a child, but it served its purpose.
The man grinned at the choice of words and laughed.
"Good one. You definitely did that." He nodded and reached out a hand towards the alchemist. "I'm Andrew."
"Varian." The teen replied but didn't shook the man's hand. Ruddiger growled at him from his place on Varian's shoulders and the teenager patted him comfortingly.
"Well, Varian." Andrew's grin never left his face. "I have a feeling we're going to get along just fine, buddy."
"We'll see about that." The younger mumbled in response and made his way towards the other bed, siting on it, Ruddiger jumping down to claim his laps instead.
They sat in silence, thoughts of imminent death by execution returning. He tried to shake them off, but how can you ignore a threat like that. So he opted for a distraction instead.
"So what are you in for?" He asked, looking at the man on the other side of the cell.
"Tried to steal a journal. Got caught." Andrew replied mysteriously. Varian wrecked his brain, trying to remember something about stealing journals. It took a few seconds to click.
"Oh, you're that Saporian guy who tried to woo Cass...andra and steal Herz Der Sonne journal, but for your butt kicked instead." He said and watched the man's face morph into an emotion he couldn't quite place.
"They got lucky. And I was alone." Andrew tried to argue. "If my team was here-"
"I got half of the Corona wetting their pants in fear and the other half scrambling to fight my automatons." Varian countered. "You got caught because you didn't plan for other possibilities than the one you hoped for."
"Should I remind you were caught too?" The Saporian tried to argue.
"The only reason I lost is because the Princess touched those stupid rocks and somehow now decided to control them, and not months ago when they were destroying my village!" The alchemist yelled, acid seeping from his voice. "And now she is on her merry way to sun-knows-where, happily oblivious to everyone she hurt just because she didn't want to be the one hurting."
"Seems to me like you got a bone to pick with Her Royal Hairness." Andrew smirked.
"She broke her promise, ignored me for months and only started to pay attention to me when I threatened everything she loved, because she was oh, so happy, she couldn't see all the bodies she left behind her." Varian's anger was growing and he clenched his fists in frustration. "She's all about friends and promises, but in truth she's just a liar, like all of those upper-class jerks. She only indulges herself into things that benefit her and don't force her to leave her little bubble of happiness."
Andrew listened to the younger's ranting, nodding once in a while. The alchemist once in a while thought he saw his cellmate grin or smirk, but it was gone as soon as he blinked, so maybe he was imagining things.
"Woah, they really did a number on you, buddy." The man said finally, after Varian finished his monologue. "But that's royalty to you. They don't care about anyone but themselves and their happiness. So what people are getting hurt in the process."
"I know, right!" Varian exclaimed in agreement. Ruddiger chittered on his lap and the teen took to petting the raccoon again, the action comforting to him. "The moment you try and get actual help, you're treated like a villain and hunted like a wild animal." He huffed angrily. "I want them to pay for what they did."
"Maybe one day, buddy." Andrew said mysteriously, to which Varian rolled his eyes.
"Yeah, right." He buried his face into Ruddiger's fur and didn't say anything else. He missed the smirk that appeared on Andrew's face, as he observed his new cellmate.
Note
heya, I was wondering what you think the reason is for kabuto to keep saying with orochimaru in part one? in shippuden we get some more context for this, but none of that is mentioned in part one and he just seems to regret his partnership to orochimaru without ever following up on that. especially in chapter 88, it really makes me wish kishimoto pushed that plot point a little more
I've been thinking about this too, and a post going out tomorrow is actually going to have some thoughts on this in the tags! You'll see this then, but during this arc, he actually thinks back to what happened in chapter 88. Basically, my thoughts on why Kishimoto would put that in are that, while Kabuto was leaning towards betraying Orochimaru then, this moment represents him giving up on that hope, and choosing his own safety instead.
Putting the rest under a cut because I ended up writing a lot...
The thing is... I don't think Kabuto ever really had a choice. From the moment Orochimaru cornered him when he was a kid, he was already being hunted down by the leaf. Where else could he have gone? Another village? Who would take him in? He was both a member of the foundation and being hunted by the foundation. If he was going to have to be a missing-nin either way, might as well stick with someone who could protect him.
His options were to join Orochimaru or die. Die then, or, if he was lucky, maybe he'd be able to run for a few months before being found and killed.
And then, during the chunin exams, when he considers betraying Orochimaru... that's him considering throwing everything away. What would have happened if he left the sound? He'd been a spy in the leaf village for years. Even more now than before, he'd have nowhere to go.
I don't know what ideas Kishimoto had for the consequences of Kabuto disobeying Orochimaru, if he even thought that far. But from what we're shown in Shippuden, there was nothing for him outside of the sound village, even if he managed to escape with his life.
If Orochimaru lost, if they died, Kabuto would also have lost everything. But he still considered betraying them, he even tried. At that point, he was terrified of Orochimaru. Working for them meant constant threat on his life. He had no life away from Orochimaru, but he had no life with them either. He knew where he stood. He knew how precarious his position was.
But then, Orochimaru suddenly needed him. Actually *needed* him to survive. Suddenly staying with the sound village was no longer an uncertain future, one with the possibility of being killed at any moment. He had power, he had safety. Orochimaru trusted him.
Around this time, you can also see Kabuto start to speak less formally to Orochimaru. At the start of Search for Tsunade, Orochimaru threatens his life, and Kabuto is still clearly a bit nervous around them. But by the end of the arc, Kabuto is saying "I told you so" and sassing them. He's clearly becoming more confident in his new role.
There's actually a really interesting line from the third databook... "When he decided to follow Orochimaru of his own accord, something changed within Kabuto." I think that the moment he decided to follow Orochimaru... is actually right where we are now, when he jumps in to save Orochimaru from Tsunade. Before this moment, Kabuto was only following Orochimaru because he had to. His thoughts of betraying them were all but wishful thinking... but he still thought about it.
When he thinks about betraying Orochimaru one last time, it would have been so easy to go through with it. All Kabuto had to do was sit there and do nothing while Tsunade attacked them. But that would have left Kabuto with nothing, and nowhere to go. So he makes the final decision to choose his safety and a clear future over his morals, and to follow Orochimaru's path wherever it leads.
(Later in the arc, Kabuto berates Naruto for clinging to his dreams at all costs, even at the cost of his life. Maybe because he just chose to give up any dreams of a life outside of the sound village...?)
(Once I read farther into the sasuke recovery arc I think there will be a lot to say about Kabuto's choices following this decision. I'm not far enough to have any concrete thoughts on this yet though, just speculation based on what I remember from this part of the anime, so I'll save that for later.)
But yeah, this is all just me speculating after spending way too much time thinking about Kabuto. I really wish this was explored more in-canon so we didn't have to dig for explanations like this. I would have loved to see more exploration of his thoughts on everything! He clearly has so much going on that we're never allowed to actually see...
more scattered naruto thoughts now that we’ve finished season 8 -
[spoiler policy disclaimer first, as always: I am watching naruto for the first time and have only gotten up to the end of season 8 (after pain destroys the hidden leaf village).  i am trying to avoid spoilers, so please don’t interact with this (tags included, because the notifications now show them to me automatically) with any spoilery commentary, including even general things like “oh i love this show but it gets less good after X point” or “X season is better than Y season” or any general assessments of quality/likability/etc re: future seasons.  Thank you! <3 ]
- i like the way S8 ended.  i know that in real life maybe it wouldn’t be so feasible to just talk your enemy back to the light, but honestly, i don’t care.  i love that shit.  i love stories when people refuse to hurt the people who hurt them first, and then their seemingly inconceivable choice to refrain from striking back creates a connection (it’s the ‘return of the jedi’ effect, folks).  i understand that it doesn’t work like that in real life most of the time, and i don’t recommend it for real life people trying to defend themselves, but i do love it in fiction.  i LOVED how naruto went in pursuit of nagato to talk to him, not fight him.  even though naruto says straight-up “i can’t forgive you” / “I want to kill you so badly i can’t stop shaking” - he still recognizes that his enemy is someone who’s been victimized, and he has enough compassion to feel pain on their behalf even when he himself is reeling from having his entire home destroyed and both of his teachers murdered by the person he’s confronting.  his choice to control his (valid) rage and extend a hand in compassion is ultimately what changes the outcome and saves everyone who would have died, reversing the damage that was done, and i love that shit.
- absolutely adore yamato abandoning his own mission and taking off at a run to try and help naruto when he senses that naruto is losing control over the nine-tails.  this man thought he was just a substitute teacher for a while there, but he’s become part of the family while he wasn’t looking.
- HINATA.  oh my god i couldn’t even enjoy this incredible moment because i was so stressed out (and angry, at the time, because i really thought they were going to kill her, and that would’ve crossed my line).  i want to watch this again knowing that she’s fine, because my anxiety over ‘fuck fuck fuck they’re actually going to kill one of the kids’ precluded me from even appreciating it appropriately.
- there’s been a lot of talk on this show about how sakura doesn’t have as much chakra as naruto or sasuke, but she heals people non-stop the entire time Pain is attacking and doesn’t show any signs of running dry.  SHOW HER SOME RESPECT.
- CHOOOOOOOOJIIIIIIII!  omg.  i was so afraid that his father was actually dead, and SO RELIEVED that he was okay.  you can’t do that to choji!!!
- also relatedly, how much do i adore choji for caring so much about kakashi?  <333 i mean this kid is there sobbing over his dead body, and then he bursts out crying when kakashi comes back to life - i really appreciate these little ties between characters who aren’t always in close quarters but who do have a relationship.  kakashi has been a teacher to ALL of the kids, and team 10 especially feels indebted to him - the respect and affection they all feel for him is very real.
- first time i actually thought ‘ok he’s cool’ with regard to minato was when he talked to the nine-tails so unfazed like “he’s a loudmouth.  let’s go somewhere more quiet.’  i’ve been kind of so-so on his character so far, but i liked this.
- also later in that scene - the (rare) scenes we’ve seen where naruto totally breaks down absolutely kill me.  it happened once when gaara was dead, and then there’s another moment in this episode when he’s talking to minato - whoever voices him does just incredible work in those moments, and it is SO PAINFUL to me because naruto is always such a happy kid the rest of the time and eternally optimistic and positive and excited and popping back up every time he falls down, and so when he cracks it is just devastating to see.  i hate seeing him cry like that.
- similarly - that shot of sasuke at the end of the itachi arc wrecked me.  naruto’s breakdowns are upsetting, but at least he allows himself to have them - when he gets pushed past a breaking point, he explodes.  he cries and yells and spills every single thought in his head in front of everybody who’s around him, and after it’s done, things get better.  he’s with people who care about him.  he’s venting and making himself understood, and he always finds his equilibrium again.
sasuke, though, has been completely locked down ever since we saw him sneak out of the hospital to wander around the scene of his community’s mass murder, and he’s still locked down now, even crying all alone at the edge of the ocean.  this moment isn’t cathartic.  it isn’t a release.  this is barely even a sliver of what this kid has going on inside him, and it looks like it’s agonizing for him to even let that much out.
- the scene where naruto is about to give up and give in to the nine-tails’s power...that exchange!!!!!!!
i don’t know.  it hurts.  i hate this.  i don’t know.  what should i do.  i don’t know anything anymore.  someone...please help me.  give me...an answer.
destroy everything.  erase anything that causes you pain.  give me your soul, your spirit, your vital essence.  give it to me, and in exchange, i will rescue you from your pain.
this whole exchange is amazing.  the way naruto says ‘it hurts’...this is one of those scenes that expands to cover so much more ground than just what’s onscreen at that moment.  what naruto overcomes here is precisely the trap that sasuke has not been able to escape.  sasuke has never had any framework for dealing with pain that isn’t about pursuing vengeance.  it’s the only way he thinks he can free himself from his pain - by putting all of his energy into destroying the people who hurt him.
but it becomes an endless cycle, because he never succeeds.  itachi dies and sasuke feels worse than ever, so he turns his attention to the hidden leaf in an attempt to finally kill what’s hurting him.  but even if sasuke were to raze the entire village to the ground, his pain would still be with him, and he’d then have to turn his attention to yet another target, because the alternative would be to recognize that he can’t escape his pain by destroying the things that hurt him, and that’s not something he’s able to accept right now.  he’s spent half his life fixated on the idea that revenge can rescue him from how terrible he feels, and abandoning that idea now would mean that nothing can save him.  it would mean that he’s going to hurt like this no matter what he does.
kakashi tried to warn him about this.  he tried to tell sasuke that even after getting his revenge, sasuke wouldn’t feel better, that he’d only tear himself apart trying to achieve something that would leave him feeling empty - but sasuke was too entrenched in his own warped thinking to believe it.  and ever since then, sasuke has been in the company of people who are happy to let him dig himself deeper and deeper into a self-destructive hole as long as it benefits their agenda.  they don’t care if he’s hurting himself.  they’re happy to see him suffering.  his pain is a tool they can use.
- a note re: kakashi, when it comes to this topic -
i think it’s relevant to remember that kakashi never tells sasuke not to pursue revenge because it’s “wrong” or ethically questionable.  he never delivers any moralizing speeches in the vein of “if you kill someone who victimized you, you’re just as bad as they are.”  kakashi doesn’t think it’s wrong if itachi dies, and if sasuke were in a better state of mind, he probably wouldn’t even mind if sasuke were the one to kill him.  that’s why kakashi is comfortable helping team 10 pursue asuma’s killers, after all - because they’re not unbalanced by rage or making self-destructive decisions; they’re acting with clear heads and pursuing a course of action that needs to be taken anyway (asuma’s murderers are on their way to the leaf to capture naruto - they need to be dealt with regardless).  team 10′s kids can handle that mission - they’re thinking straight.  they’re comfortable accepting adult guidance.  they’re grieving, but they’re okay.
sasuke is not.  sasuke has been deeply traumatized since he was a very young child, and encouraging his quest for vengeance is equivalent to validating all of the fucked-up thought patterns that are hurting him so badly - that it was his responsibility (as a seven year-old child) to protect his clan, that he was weak and cowardly for running away, that he needs to take itachi down as penance for failing to save his family, that killing itachi is the only way for him to justify his childhood survival, that killing itachi will free him from his pain.  for kakashi to encourage any of these false convictions would be irresponsible and, ultimately, harmful to the child he’s supposed to be looking after.  if sasuke gets his revenge on itachi, he’s just going to be left with the horrifying realization that his pain hasn’t lessened even the slightest bit, except that now he also has to deal with the additional trauma of killing someone he used to love.
kakashi doesn’t discourage sasuke from revenge because Revenge Is Morally Bad and You Are Morally Bad For Pursuing It; he discourages sasuke from revenge because in this particular case, sasuke’s fixation on revenge is hurting him.  it’s unhealthy for him, and it will cause him worse pain in the future if he allows it to continue driving his life.  sasuke is never going to feel better if he doesn’t stop distracting himself from his pain by focusing solely on vengeance.  if he’s ever going to actually be rescued from his pain, he needs to face (and FEEL!!!) his grief, which is precisely what staying fixated on revenge allows him to avoid.
- relatedly: i just.  am SO sick.  of all these horrible people.  getting their hands on sasuke.  and using him for their own ends.  when he has already been manipulated and victimized all his life.  it makes me wanna SCREAM!!!!  and i know that’s the point; we are supposed to be frustrated by this - but - hrnghghgnh
and like - it’s not like sasuke doesn’t know it’s happening!  he’s not stupid!  he knows the people around him are using him, and he just tries to use them back and play them before they play him, and he accepts that this is what his life is going to look like, and because he survives, he thinks he’s in control, but he has NO IDEA how far over his head he’s in now.  and besides, he never stops to think that maybe his life shouldn’t look like this.  he has no conception of ‘someone should be taking care of me.’  he’s never seen himself as a child who needs protection - he’s never seen himself as a child, period.  it’s why he’s such a brat to the other kids, and it’s why he never calls kakashi ‘sensei.’  he thinks of himself as an adult.  he has adult problems.  he can’t connect to children his own age because he can’t connect to the idea of childhood - his childhood was stolen from him, and with it went any conception of refuge or safety or the fact that relentless self-sufficiency and a constant cycle of using/being used by other people isn’t in fact what his life is supposed to look like.
i am continually infuriated by all of these people who have abdicated their responsibility as adults and chosen to exploit an already exploited kid, one who is too messed up to save himself or let anybody else help him.  none of these people care about him.  they all want to use him for something.  they’re happy he’s in pain, because his pain is what enables them to manipulate him.
the people who DO truly want to help him are the same people he’s desperately trying to avoid.  the only adult sasuke ever had a meaningful and non-manipulative relationship with is the same adult he keeps running away from.  and the only two people his own age who ever actually knew anything about him or cared if he was okay are the two people he keeps pushing away.
there is, perhaps, a lot to be said about how sasuke continually runs away from the people who actually care about him and instead affiliates himself with people he’ll never have to worry about forming a connection with.  “having too many ties in this world just holds you back” - sure, and having no ties protects you, too.  nobody to love you, nobody to know you, nobody you can ever lose.
Unposted Fanfiction Masterlist
This is the Masterlist of my fanfic that is not posted, but I intend to write and post them all. I hope you enjoy what I have for fic ideas. I write many pairings, and am not afraid of rarepairs. I hope to inspire others to write for all the different eras of time that could be written for, as the well, jewel, and god tree can all be used to move Kagome or others into other worlds, at different eras of those worlds. I will update this list with any new ideas.
Feel free to ask about anything that might catch your eye, or make you a bit curious as to what exactly I’m thinking of with each fic, I’ll be happy to talk about it!
A Twisted Feudal Fairytale - Neji/Kagome
Eventual smut, Rated Explicit
When Naraku tries to send Kagome to another world, he never expected to get caught using the spell in their camp by a bunch of shinobi ready to pummel him into next week to defend her. Who knew that having time and space warped around you would allow you to world hop alongside time hopping?
Accidental Transportation - Kagome/?
Eventual smut, Rated Explicit
The second Hokage had made preparations for the event of the Uchiha’s rebellion after his brother had passed on. The walls he’d had built around the Uchiha compound contained a special seal that had been discovered to be efficient at transportation. All he did was set it to another world, one he’d visited accidentally with his brother when experimenting with a new jutsu. He’d set it to have two triggers. Poor Kagome is one of them.
Akatsuki: Blast To Another World’s Past - Akatsuki/Kagome Harem
Eventual mass amounts of smut. Rated Explicit
Apparently mixing two space-time jutsu had a very high chance of being tossed into another world. But he did not expect the link of the rings all the members wore to transport them with him. He’d seen that the pain and suffering of this world had turned to tranquility and peace. The question was, was it worth staying?
Aspect Of Four Souls: Sakimitama - Itachi/Kagome/Kisame
Eventual Smut. Rated Explicit
Midoriko knew Kagome would need a balance for her large soul, or she’d never be able to destroy the abomination she’d made. So she summons two people that would balance her more than the one the Kami had tried to match her to. He was insufficient, and uninterested in her. These two, they would be best for her. They would make sure her Sakimitama was present and in place so she could destroy the Jewel, just as she would heal them as well.
Changing History - Young!Jiraiya/Kagome
The well reopens as Kagome knew it would. But when she materializes in the bottom and climbs out, she finds herself not even in her own world anymore. She finds the well sitting in the middle of a road, and a man with white har, red streaks falling from his eyes that towers over her. When she looks back at the well behind her, she finds nothing. It vanished into thin air. The man is eyeing her suspiciously.  Where is she, and what's going on now?!
Connected Reflections - Kagome/?
Eventual smut. Rated Explicit
Naraku has gone completely silent. No one has seen hide nor hair of him for months. Then the barrier hiding his layer falls. Inside they find a huge bronze mirror. It’s big enough to walk through. Kagome accidentally activates it.
Dreams Of A New Reality - Itachi/Kagome Shisui/Sasuke
Eventual loads of smut Definitely Rated Explicit
The Shikon’s efforts to torture and break Kagome fail. She pulled two men out of the dreams she was having. Now she’s pulled a third. They speak at length on this issue, and easily decide to help her with her task in exchange for finding a way back. In the end, the Jewel tries to force them back, but the bond the well created around them is too strong. Many things have changed in their world with the addition of Kagome, and she didn;t know how many cans of worms she was opening by trying to save them. Including the population of Uchiha that would be living in Konoha. It seems as though a solution has been found for that though.
Dreamwalkers - Itachi/Kagome/Shisui
Eventual Smut. Rated Explicit
With dreams of three boys and the fate of the clan they come from clear to her eye at night, Kagome is given a choice. Forsake her world, and save them, or live in a world where she doesn’t really belong anymore
Fugaku had been having dreams of a girl for the past three years. His position weighs heavily on him. He wishes that girl was real, and here to help him resolve the issues between the village and his clan. He didn’t want to stage a coup. But his clan has demanded such of him. He would give that girl anything to stop the extermination of his clan that he sees on the horizon.
Existing Within Each Other - Kakashi/Kagome
Eventual smut. Rated Explicit
Travelling can be a very dull thing to do, especially by foot. Kagome came back one day, reading a series called Naruto. It wasn’t long before she not only had all the books in the series, but all her friends reading it too.
Kakashi had been enthralled by this book that was rated for teenagers. His students started it. He’d even seen Jiraiya reading it! But his curiosity was piqued. This series ‘Inu Yasha’ was good. Only when he finished it, the main heroine, Kagome, materialized on his bed. What fresh Jutsu was this?!
Fighting Hatred - Obito/Kagome
Emotional Angst. Rated Mature
“It’s okay if you like someone else, Obito! I’m used to being left behind!” The painful, watery smile she gave him tore his heart out. Before he could respond, she looked at the ground as the tears streamed down her face. A sob escaped her. He blinked and the stool beside him was empty. The ends of black hair turning the corner like a cat was all he could see of her before she was gone. His chest ached, and suddenly, all he could think of was her. How had he been so blind?
From The Garden Of The Gods: Founders Of The Leaf - Kagome/?
*Please note that I have asked for permission from the original author of ‘From The Garden Of The Gods’ on ff.net, She has abandoned the Suna fic she was writing, and it was plainly stated in her fics as well.
Eventual Smut. Rated Explicit.
Kagome has been dropped into a world she doesn’t recognize, and it’s not long before she realizes that no one understands her. Coming across a village being built, and made of many different shinobi clans, Kagome doesn’t think she could make it on her own in the village.
 Instead she tries to not bring attention to herself, well aware that they would most likely try to kill her or use her horribly. She decides to stay close to the village, but not become a part of it. Her anonymity is scattered to the wind when enemy shinobi attack her small home, hoping to weaken the in-progress village. She’s cornered by three very powerful shinobi, and only her barrier separates her from them.
My Daughter From Beyond The Well - Shisui/Kagome
Rating Unknown. Depends on it I decide for it to be fluffy or not
Marriage within the Uchiha clan meant loyalty to your partner, and while he was never disloyal, it did not mean that he did not have a lover before his marriage was arranged. His wife did as well. What made his so different was the well he had to use to get there. Now, nine years after he was forced to leave her, a small girl arrives in the well. She looks like a carbon copy of him, except for her hair and eyes. They are her mothers. His ex-lover. In her hands, a letter covered with tears, and the strong scent of medicine. Itachi is curious, as he should be. She was another sibling for him to care for. But Shisui, he was enthralled. He had no idea what she was scared of, but he desperately wanted to eliminate it for her. Sasuke wonders why she’s so sad all the time.
Growing Intertwined - Yamato/Kagome
Eventual Smut. Rated Explicit.
The Final Battle did not go as planned. No one expected the Jewel to throw Kagome into another world. Scared and surrounded by people holding weapons in her direction, Kagome throws a barrier up unconsciously. It’s not long before someone realizes that she’s not going to hurt them, but she was too busy crying, calling for Inu Yasha. The gentle, careful knock on her barrier has her looking up into calm, gentle black almond-shaped eyes. He was crouched in front of her, a sign that he didn’t want to hurt her.
“Nice barrier you got there.”
Hatake’s Saving Grace - Kakashi/Kagome
Rating undetermined. Not sure if just fluff is going into this fic.
Sakumo couldn’t thank her enough. Not when she’d saved his life, and given him grandchildren. Beautiful, blue-eyed grandchildren. And her food saved so many lives.
Hokage In The Well - Kagome/?
Rating Undecided. Not sure if this one will have a pairing. BroTP yes, but as far as shipping goes… no idea who to pair her with for this one.
Kagome had no idea what to think when five men appeared in the well, three of which were arguing with each other. The other two watched from the sidelines. She had no clue what a Hokage was, nor why one of them was not one while all the others were. What fresh hell is this?
Kagome Saves Tobirama - Tobirama/Kagome
Eventual Smut. Rated Explicit.
Falling asleep in your dorm room with all the nekomata napping in your sweater resulted in waking up in a different world surrounded by shinobi who were being hunted by other shinobi, and you were the only chance at escape. Who knew?
Last Ditch Effort - Hashirama/Kagome
Eventual Smut. Rated Explicit.
While rooting out and eliminating traitors who wanted the war to continue raging, Hashirama feels a pull. Following it, he finds a girl in the bottom of a well in an abandoned village. She was fighting for her life, and losing. The stinger in her leg would make sure of it. He didn’t know how much the village he’d dreamed of building needed her until he decided to save her.
Like Her Namesake - Neji/Kagome
Eventual Smut. Rated Explicit.
Irony could describe how he’d found her, and how her name had been marked on the underside of his upper arm forever, just as the bird chained to his can seal had been marked on hers.
“Kagome, Kagome.
The Bird in the cage.
When will you come out?
In the light of the dawn?
The crane and the turtle slipped.
Who will betray you now?”
Little Kagome - Obito/Kagome
Rating Undecided.
After being found abandoned as a baby, Kagome clings to Obito, and he brings her home when the orphanage turns her away. When Fugaku gives them permission to keep her, especially seeing the bond she has with Obito, he feels his priorities shifting to her. Luckily, she is a full trained priestess with lots of experience protecting herself.
Loving the Hate Away - Minato/Kagome
Eventual Smut. Rated Explicit.
When offers of training from each member of the Inu Taichi are rescinded shortly after being made, Kagome wonders if there is something wrong with her. But the really kind man from her dreams gives her a small pointer that uncovers the truth about the person she thought she loved, trusted with her life. When she sees the man in her dreams for the last time, she gives him the ability to summon her as thanks.
Making My Way To You - Kakashi/Kagome
Eventual Smut. Rated Explicit.
Soulmate’s AU inspired by Kakshisninken’s Scribbles series, written with permission to borrow some themes.
Kagome never expected to have a Soulmate, much less one in a different world that paired everyone off automatically. And what’s Chakra?
Marriage Of Protection - Kakashi/Kagome
Smut. Rated Explicit
An illegal, unsanctioned summoning has the Hokage in deep water. He is finally forced to go after Danzo, the problems he’s caused greatly outweigh the benefits to him being the Shadow Kage. The girl he’s summoned now remains a giant target for the rest of the world, and that’s not fair to her. Thus he needs to marry her to someone strong enough to protect her from Danzo and the rest of the world. He cannot select anyone who would be forced to concede to clan politics, which made his selection pool very small. Luckily there is one man, last of his clan. He will do nicely.
Match Made In Hokage - Kakashi/Kagome
Eventual Smut. Rated Explicit.
When Tsunade informs Kakashi that he is to become the next Hokage until Naruto can take over, Kakashi is stunned. However neither Kagome or Kakashi knew why they or the council had to be present for such a decision.
“However, there is a weakness that must be eradicated. Hatake is both the last of his clan, and not married. This could be taken advantage of. We have selected the best candidate to fill this position. We require Hatake and Higurashi to wed, increasing political ties, and to produce heirs to continue the Hatake line. They will be wed before the mantle of Hokage will be passed. The Higurashi Matron has been contacted and has given both permission and support to this motion. Higurashi has expressed a lack of interest in any partner in the time she has been part of Konoha, and Hatake has expressed interest in her. Thus the motion will carry.”
Kagome stood frozen in both shock and anger at the council and Tsunade’s audacity. Kakashi was in deep shit.
Midoriko’s Gift - Shisui/Kagome
Eventual Smut. Rated Explicit.
Shisui wasn’t given the chance to use the erasing jutsu. No, he was taken just after he fell. Waking up in a cave with a pretty girl asking if he was okay wasn’t a bad thing either. But how would he know? Both his eyes were pulled out, and he was blind.
Mission Unexpected - Kagome/?
Rated teen. No smut in this fic, no one to pair her with that isn’t Inu Yasha.
 Minato had gone after his students after they’d been forced into and cornered in an abandoned well. He’d tried to get them out quickly, but hadn’t noticed the activated scroll tossed in on top of them until the ground fell out beneath them, and everything became a large, starry void. Surly this was a genjutsu. Why couldn’t they break it then? Amd who is this girl who jumped in on top of them and disappeared?
No Where To Go - Itachi/Kagome
Eventual Smut/ Rated Explicit.
Naraku tried to escape the Final Battle. He had defeated the Slayer and Monk, targeting them specifically. The jewel had told him they were her ancestors. Yet, he had still been forced to run. She had followed of course, nothing but death awaited her in that world anyways. She didn’t expect to out a corrupt politician when she’d only tried to protect him from Naraku, nor did she expect how high up he was. She also healed a boy accidentally, and found herself the focus of an entire village of Shinobi. The political position she found herself in for completing her task made her wish she had faded from existence in her world. But there is no way back now.
Perfect - Yamato/Kagome
Eventual Smut. Rated Explicit
Inu Yasha’s uncharacteristic behavior has Kagome worried. But he makes her take a vacation. He didn’t know the well had made a second direction, a world slip. After explaining everything to the ‘Hokage’ Kagome makes a deal with him. He sends two ANBU members to assist her in her task, hoping she’ll fall for one of them, and they for her. It would give her reason to stay in Konoha, and the village would be that much more powerful. Yamato and Kakashi never expected the roller coaster that all of them would be forced to ride.
Pop-Up Prophecy - Itachi/Kagome
Eventual Smut. Rated Explicit.
Kagome is dropped right behind two people. An old man with spiky white hair in a low ponytail, who dwarfed the smaller black-haired smooth  ponytail wearer.
“Ah there she is. Take care of her, Itachi. She is the key of salvation for your clan.”
“Of course Jiraiya-sama.”
Preventing Chaos - Izuna/Kagome
Eventual Smut. Rated Explicit.
Izuna is stolen from Madara right before he was supposed to die. He woke up to a girl healin him in a place where he recognized nothing. There was a box talking to him, and are those dog-ears on that boy’s head?
Putting On A Show- Uchiha Style - Itachi/Kagome
Smut very early on, Arranged Marriage. Rated Explicit.
The whole Uchiha clan was moved after the ninetails attack not because they were not trusted, but because of a prophecy a man bearing blue eyes and other-worldly knowledge had given them after proving his abilities, and passing on. Of course any soothsayer would know when their progeny would follow them. The only difference is that now Fugaku had been notified of her arrival, and the Uchiha’s involvement in it. The Hokage asked them for a show, and now that Fugaku understood, he would get the show of his life in the only way his clan knew how to give one. Uchiha-style.
Recall: Shikon’s Return - Akatsuki/Kagome Harem
Smut from the very beginning. Rated Explicit.
She’d finally destroyed the jewel. She was spat into a world not her own. When she is come across by Tobi and Zetsu, they note her precarious position in this world and take advantage of it. She’s to become the Akatsuki’s healer for the main groups of shinobi partners, with benefits. (Nod to AwolAngel’s ‘Maid with Benefits’) Inadvertently, they all end up smitten or very fond of her, and she of them. So it’s a no-brainer when Kagome feels yoki coming from the well she’d arrived in, that they’d all follow her to help her destroy it. But the results of this are mind-blowing when they step into a clearing only Kagome recognizes after all of them are pulled through the well.
“You all know there’s supposed to be a large scar on my side, right?”
The unblemished skin on her side could only mean one thing.
Roof Of The Pillars - Hashirama/Tobirama/Kagome/Madara/Izuna
Eventual Smut. Rated Explicit.
The adorable little girl in the bunny clothes had no idea that she would be the end of the feudal wars in another world, and the glue of an alliance through marriage to two sets of brothers from opposing clans.
But those big blue eyes held peace for all of them.
Saigo No Akuma - Minato/Kagome
Eventual Smut, Rated Explicit.
Kagome’s lost everything to the jewel. After being trained and then transported to another world, she finds herself protecting the village during the Nine-tails attack, which not only ends up saving the Uchiha, but also Minato and Kushina’s only son. Kushina’s last wish was that Kagome help Minato raise Naruto, since he was the Hokage, and that Minato take care of Kagome.
Shattered Again - The Jewel’s Existence - Madara/Kagome
Eventual Smut. Rated Explicit.
The jewel tried to bring another ally to Naraku, but the Goshinboku interferes and changes which point of Madara’s life he is taken from. The Jewel shatters itself again to keep from being destroyed. This ends up saving both him, and the group he has inadvertently become a part of. With Madara’s addition to the group, Inu Yasha notices how he only has eyes for Kagome. This is a good thing. She’ll be in good hands. He leaves her, and frees her from her promises. Madara is there to pick up the pieces, of both her heart and the jewel.
Shisui’s Resolve: Kagome’s Happiness - Shisui/Kagome
Eventual Smut. Rated Explicit.
After being betrayed and abandoned, Kagome is dropped into a different world, right in front of Shisui. When brought before the Hokage, Shisui makes an offer that will both save his clan, free them of the curse, and bring them into the village as they had originally been promised all those years ago at its founding, so long as she is willing to do so.
Stuck In His World - Kakashi/Kagome
Eventual Smut. Rated Explicit.
After keeping Kagome and her remaining family from returning to her world through a portal, Kakashi brings them to the Hokage. Normally his paranoia pays off. Rarely does it end up getting him into trouble. This is one of those times.
Uchiha’s Heart Of Konoha - Madara/Kagome/Izuna
Eventual Smut. Rated Explicit.
The well prevents disaster in the shinobi world. It takes Izuna from Madara right in front of him, and delivers him to Kagome to save him. When she goes to his world to tell his older brother, she figured she’d only gain some new friends, possibly help for the task in her world’s past. Not two very powerful, handsome, kind, doting men intent on wooing her, and making her happy in return for preventing their grief.
Uncorrupted - Obito/Kagome
Undecided Rating.
Black Zetsu knew there was a chance that Obito could be sucked into another world while practicing his kamui. Whether the real Obito disappeared or not, the Eye Of The Moon Plan would come to fruition.
Wishing For Backup - Kagome/?
Eventual Smut. Rated Explicit.
Waking up to a kunai held at your throat with a demand for answers by a voice you only recognize from an anime is more than a little jarring, especially when the person really is from that person really is from that anime. Kagome wants to strangle the Jewel now.
Wooing A Higurashi - Madara/Kagome
Envental Smut. Rated Explicit.
How dare she? She stole his Gunbai, yelled at him, and forced him into immobilization for an extended period of time! How dare she flash her teeth at him?!
I will update this list as more ideas are added, or if I post a fic. If I write one-shots, then those will simply be posted to the finished fic list. Of course not all the details are in these summaries. Feel free to ask if you have questions or concerns regarding my fics. I’ll try my best to clear up anything, or just gush. Please enjoy!
Catch of the Day-HB Fanfic
A request from one of my new favorite anons. I love all of them, but this request was so crazy I had to do it as soon as possible.
Warning: Angst and bad comedy. Also bad comedic angst. Character death
Additional warning: I can’t take things seriously and I haven’t written in awhile so it may be a bit rusty.
Word count: 1,647
Summary: The boys are chased by a harpooner who does not want to be caught.
Note to the anon: I don’t know what happened in the specific harpooning scene you referred to for inspiration. I didn’t want to spoil myself cause I hadn’t gotten around to playing it yet so, I worked with what I could.
Enjoy or don’t it’s kinda sad!
THWACK!
Frank’s breath hitched as a harpoon burst through the wall of the wooden shed. He looked to his brother next to him over the glistening metal that narrowly missed his head. Joe wore a waning smile. Frank knew what was coming.
“We knew something fishy was going down, I just didn’t think it’d be us.” He laughed weakly. He pealed himself off the wall and shuffled to the other side. Missing the annoyed look that the older Hardy shot at him.
The two brothers had arrived at the tiny fishing village earlier that week after a string of thefts had caught their attention. They discovered it was Gary Keates, an old sailor who currently was attempting to add a murder charge to burglary.
“Why do they always have to try to kill us?” Frank asked brother. He shrugged, then tested the back window. It opened, but neither of them would fit through it.
Keates yelled in the distance, Frank couldn’t understand what he said. It didn’t matter. They either had to break the window or try to duck out the harpooned door. His glance shifted from the window to the door, then from the door to window. He patted Joe’s shoulder, who took it as a sign to step back. Frank took up a rotted piece of floor and swung at the window.
The shattering glass was loud and obvious. Frank was going for quick, he didn’t care about the noise. He ushered his brother out the window and then followed. Joe lead the way in a stealthy, but speedy crouch back towards the main road. The police were to meet them there, along with their father. The village was so far out in the middle of nowhere. They promised to meet the boys in about an hour. Based on a radio message they received an hour and a half ago. With any luck, rescue would find the boys before Keates did.
Joe looked over his shoulder. Beyond his brother, he could still see Keates circling the shack. His harpoon gun bouncing off his leg. He had ammunition ready on his back. “I know the old dude is out of his shell, but I can’t believe he’s treating his harpoon gun like a bow and arrow.” Joe whispered.
“And I can’t believe you’re still making fish puns while were being hunted like animals.” Frank hissed back.
“You mean like whales? Or seals?”
Frank pointed ahead, silently commanding his brother to keep marching on. Also probably to shut up. They had a little way to go before they would reach the main road, and Keates was going to find them soon. Even with all the trees, the older Hardy boy felt too exposed. His only solace was that Joe remained in front of in and Gary Keates was behind him.
“You went to the woods, didn’t ya?” The Hardy Boys heard Gary rationalize as he left the area surrounding the rotten shack. A splintering CRACK rung out through the forest. At first the Hardy Boys feared they stepped on a twig, but it was their hunter retrieving his old harpoon. “I’ll find ya.”
They concealed themselves in some bushes, but they could still feel Keates’ searching gaze as he roved the forest. He was still far behind them. The hairs standing up on the back of Frank’s neck made it seem like he was right behind them.
He ushered Joe back in front of him again and motioned that they should go forward. He saw the worried look in his brother’s eyes, there was nothing he could do to comfort him besides giving him the same look. The situation already seemed bleak, but as long as he could keep Joe safe. Frank’s own safety didn’t matter.
Keep moving forward
Keep staying silent
Keep protecting your brother
In this moment, both brothers were repeating this in their minds. The slow pace was agonizing, and Gary’s shouting did not put them at ease. Slow and steady keeps you alive, right? That’s what their father taught them. In a way. He also taught them to not accuse someone who might kill them when they are alone in a small village where no one would find them. A very specific lesson, but one that would have been useful to remember about an hour ago.
They kept going on, keeping their breath as silent as possible. Trying to avoid every stick and crunchy leaf on the ground. It was Fall, which only made this more difficult. The two were making good progress until,
CRACK!
Frank stepped on a twig. It was a small twig, but the sound of it snapping traveled for miles. The brothers froze. This is not good.
“There ya are!”
This really is not good. Keates was already running in their direction. They didn’t have much time. “You keep going that way. “Frank pointed towards the main road. “I’ll split off and keep his focus on me.”
“But Frank?”
“I’ll meet you there. Now go!” He shoved Joe away from him, and the younger Hardy boy had no choice but to take off. He shot one last look to his brother. Frank didn’t look back. He faced the direction in which the harpooner was coming from. His whole body was trembling, he couldn’t disguise his fear with the brave face he put on.
When Keates came close enough, he slowed down. For the first time, he wasn’t yelling. He readied a shot. Unfortunately, too slow to take it. Frank spun around and sprinted off. His path was wild. He made it up as he went. He heard Keates running behind him.
“If I keep him distracted long enough,” Frank thought as he made a jagged turn, “Hopefully, Joe will send the police in time.” He tried to push morbidity out of his mind, it was hard. He’s completely lost in this dark forest. He couldn’t tell the difference between the sound of his own feet and Keates’s.
Frank had to take a chance to find out. He dove into a bush. It was quiet. Had he lost him? He waited for a few seconds and he could only hear his breathing. He waited before standing up. Looking around his surroundings, he realized he wasn’t too far from the main road. He continued on. There was an outpost nearby that would protect them better than some decaying shack ever would.
“Joe’s probably already there. The police better be there to kelp.” He whispered to himself. “Help. He’s not even here. How did he make me do that?” He laughed for his younger brother, who would’ve appreciated his pun. Frank slowed his pace down to a walk. Safety was in sight.
He caught sight of the shack, but that wasn’t the only thing he saw. Keates had beaten him there. Joe was backing away from him with his hands raised. Frank heard him plead, “No no no no please-AHCK!”
The first harpoon dug into his shoulder and pinned him to the wall.
Frank ran, but he was too slow and too far to stop Keates from loading another.
The second sliced through Joe’s leg. He cried out again.
Frank tripped over a root.
The third struck his hand. Joe didn’t make a sound at this point.
Frank jumped back to his feet and made another desperate attempt to stop the assault.
A fourth buried deep into his side.
Finally, Frank tackled Keates. He tried to pin him down, but the old man fought back viciously. So did Frank. They were rolling in the dirt, no matter how much Frank kicked and punched the old man was still fighting back. He couldn’t believe the energy his assailant possessed. Especially since he was running out of his own. Adrenaline surged through him, but it wasn’t enough. Keates stretched out to grab a harpoon.
The older Hardy took a risk. He shot up. As quick as he could he stepped on the harpooner’s hand, causing him to recoil. He then picked up a rock and bashed his opponent’s head without a second thought. He was out.
Joe’s head slumped, the rest of his body remained pinned to the outpost wall. His vision blurred, his breathing heavy, he was trying to fight it. He was trying to stay alive. He heard the sirens. The police wouldn’t make it. Their dad wasn’t there to save him. He was always supposed to keep them safe in this job. He failed. Joe knew he had to fight for himself now, but it was getting so hard.
Frank’s voice sounded miles away, even though he was inches from his face. Frank always had a solution. He could see the panic in his brother’s face. He was trying to find one. “You can’t fix it for me this time.” Joe mused. He tried to make light of this dark situation he got caught in. There was too much blood, too much pain, it was too hard to stay awake.
“Shut up.” Frank choked out. He couldn’t take out the harpoons, that would only make the bleeding worse. He couldn’t treat his wounds. He couldn’t leave him to get help. He couldn’t help him. He couldn’t protect his brother. “Stop talking.”
Joe weakly lifted his head and looked in his brother’s eyes. He hoped the look he was giving him was enough to tell him everything he needed to. This was the end. Joe wished he could tell his brother how much he loved him and how this wasn’t his fault. He wished he could ask him to say the same to their parents. He was out of time to say all those serious things now. Joe did the only thing he could, “Guess I’m the catch of the day… Sea you on the other side, Frank.”
“Those better not be your last words.” Frank scolded as tears fell.
But they were.
You could write about a Sakumo lives AU with Sakumo and Taunade being best buddies and teaming up against Asshole Danzou 😁
“He did what!?” Sakumo slammed his hands down Tsunade’s desk, ignoring the falling piles of paperwork falling off to the sides as he stared at his friend “i’m going to kill him. I’m going to stab him in that one stupid visible eye and carve out his heart.”
Tsunade leveled him with an unimpressed look.
“For the Great White Fang of Konoha, that sounds pretty unimaginative,” He was certain she wasn’t supposed to be egging him on. That as the Hokage, she was supposed to try to get him to calm down and think about the situation more ‘logically’. Of course, Tsunade had never been all that great at calming people down, given her own temper. “Why not something more fun? Like boiling him alive?”
Ok, clearly she was as angry as him about the situation, she was just handling it a bit better. Which was fair. It wasn’t her son laying in the hospital after being attacked by so called ‘Leaf Shinobi’ after all.
“He even took the cowards attack,” he growled under his breath “Not only did he not do it himself, he sent his ass hole operatives after Kakashi after a hard mission when he was already exhausted. That’s such...why did Hiruzen have a scum bag like him in power at all?”
“I never said Sensei was a smart man,” actually, Tsunade had said quiet the opposite on many occasions. She had more than a few problems with her old Sensei and she had never been afraid to let him know about them. It was part of why she preferred to travel rather than staying in Konoha before she took the position of Hokage. “But i have no proof that this was done on Danzo’s orders.”
“Cut the crap,” Sakumo snapped “we both know it was. He has hated me since the day i told him off in front of Hiruzen for making a plan of attack that was a basic suicide run that was going to get our shinobi killed so that he could hopefully get some information.”
Danzo hadn’t just hated Sakumo since that day, he had done everything in his power to get rid of Sakumo. He had even tried turning the whole village against him when he choice to save his teammates from certain death instead of completing his mission, and Sakumo had almost allowed him to win.
He had been holding his Tanto to his stomach when Kakashi got home, and his son had wasted no time in running towards him and smacking the Tanto away. A feat only achieved because Sakumo was too afraid of hurting the 5 year old if he tried to keep hold of his Tanto.
He had wanted to die, but nothing could ever make him hurt Kakashi.
“His hatred of you doesn’t give us solid proof that he ordered a hit on Kakashi,” He knew she was right. If Tsunade had the proof they needed, Sakumo wouldn’t be here. She would have grabbed him and dragged him to wherever Danzo was hiding away so they could deal with him together. “I have a protection detail on Kakashi. Only people i trust to keep him safe, of course.”
Genma and Tenzo. Those were the names she refused to speak. The Anbu operatives that she trusted to keep Kakashi safe while he was healing.
“So what do we do?” He asked, the anger still boiling deep down inside of him as he looked at his friend “We can’t just leave him to keep doing this shit. At some point...”
He didn’t dare speak the words. Kakashi was talented. the Best of his generation of Shinobi, but he wasn’t invincible. One bad mission, one miss step, and that would be the end. His son wouldn’t be coming home and it would be all because of Danzo.
“We get proof,” She smiled up at him. A smile that he knew covered her own anger and the plans already going through her mind. “And once we have proof, we destroy the old man.”
The smile faded. In its place a dark angry look took over Tsunade’s eyes. She was out for blood, the same blood that Sakumo wanted, and he couldn’t wait to see her rip Danzo to shreds.
Hi! I send the ask about the Yandere sasuke and Madara. I really just want to be surprised lol. Maybe Madara is trying to convince his wife to leave the village with him. Maybe Sasuke’s love interest is in the same search team as Naruto and is looking for him (shuppiden era ofc). Anything works really. I just want to be surprised lol 😂. But female lead pls? THANK YOU AGAIN ❤️
I used your prompts as a loose guideline :) hope you like this! Thank you for requesting! We all know how much we need yandere! Uchiha fanfictions to spice up our lives 🤧
Warning: As this is yandere fiction, this deals with unethical behaviours  that can be uncomfortable and triggering to read. Read at your own risk. This work is purely fictional, I do not condone this behaviour irl.
Yandere! Madara leaving the village with his wife
Your mission to seduce Madara had gone a bit too well.
See, you had been assigned a secret assignment that that was known only by you and Tobirama – him being the one who had given you this mission.
You were from a small clan that was somewhat strong, but nowhere the skill level that was possessed by the Uchiha and the Senju; your clan was on the brink of war with another that was much more powerful, and surely, would leave your family extinct. In the last hopes to save your family, you had ended up reaching out to the Senju, more specifically, Tobirama. In exchange for protecting your clan, not only did your clan have to submit themselves under the Senju’s rule for the rest of the living days, but Tobirama had assigned a very special task to you.
“At the expense of your own life to protect your clan, risk yourself. Become close to Madara Uchiha, and report back all of his suspicious activities and the Uchiha’s plans to me,” Tobirama had ordered simply.
To this day, you still wondered how you managed to coax Madara, but the reality was that you did; and you did not realise the weight of your own actions until it was too late.
Undoubtedly, the situation of your assignment had escalated to the point of no return. You knew how vengeful Madara was against those who wronged him. That fear of what would happen if you ever refused him, or what he would do to your clan if he found out the truth of why you were actually with him, kept you rooted to obey whatever he desired from you. Whatever he wanted, you gave it to him, until this very moment.
The cold touch of his warm hand burnt as the awful reminder of your reality, and kept you spiraling down into madness. There was regret for all of your choices: accepting Tobirama’s condition, choosing to sacrifice yourself for your clan’s safety when they did nothing but dishonour you for siding with the traitor, not knowing that you were doing it to protect them, and  letting your fear of what Madara was capable of control and weaken you. These regrets made your stomach churn and you felt the sensation of nausea in your mouth.
Madara’s breath fanned your face, and he tenderly cupped your cheek with his hands. In the darkness of the night, his usual onyx eyes blazed a crimson red; it was a warning of the depths he was willing to reach if you dare to defy him now, of all the times.
“We’re leaving the village,” Madara announced as a firm statement, leaving no room for argument.
Despite your crippling fear, you opened your mouth to speak. Despite all the odds, you hoped to stand up for yourself for once.
However, the moment the sharp corner of a kunai pricked the delicate flesh of your neck, and drew blood that matched the colour of Madara’s eyes as a warning, your hope vanquished the moment it was there.
“You have no choice. I know all about your little mission that Tobirama assigned you,” Madara whispered with a voice as smooth as honey. He tucked a lock of your hair behind your ear, and due to his spoken words, your eyes were widened.
“You should be grateful that someone like me actually even bothers with someone of a low ranking as you, and that I’ve decided to take pity on you. No one else cares about you, no one else will. You’re shunned by your own clan. Me, I’m the only one who has ever given a damn about you. So show me some appreciation by being a good girl alright?” He muttered, and then captured your lips with his in a deep kiss.
And like the conformist you were, you returned it. Tears welled up in the corner of your eyes, but there was nothing else to do. There was nothing else left for you except for the life Madara had in store for you. So, you reached out your hands, and tangled your fingers in the raven hair of the devil that was your sole salvation, and sealed your fate with him with this kiss for all eternity.
Sasuke is under the cut!
Yandere! Sasuke’s love interest in the search team
For as far as your memory served, all the way to your childhood when your journey as a ninja was merely beginning at the Konohagakure ninja academy, something about Sasuke had always put you off. Unlike many of the others, who were drawn to him for many reasons – his looks, his talents, his intelligence, and the fact that he was an Uchiha, you always kept your distance. Behind his ingenious and aloof energy that pulled others in, was a feeling of eeriness – a particular discomfort that prompted you to stay away from him as far as possible. During your student days, it was not too difficult for you to avoid him. However, once your were put on Team Seven with Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke himself, it was almost impossible to ever get away from him.
And everything worsened because someone as talented as Sasuke, knew how to keep himself  from being suspected. He never revealed his true colours enough in front of everyone for them to put all the clues together. Sure, granted it was sort of evident that Sasuke had a soft spot for you, and showed you an ounce of kindness in the way he did not with others. However, it was when the two of you were alone that his true intentions were revealed.
Inappropriate touches, whispers of petrifying promises, and his cunning threats – you hated all of it. Especially after he was given the curse mark by Orochimaru, and the inevitable darkness that haunted the Uchiha began to plague him, that’s when it was the worst.
After his fight with Naruto on the hospital’s roof, where Sakura would have been severely hurt had it not been for Kakashi’s interference, Sasuke had dragged you away with him. You had become his punching bag he took his frustration out on to make himself feel powerful, to make him feel something.
Using sparring to train as an excuse, you had ended up beneath him. He held a kunai to your throat which was a typical way to announce one’s victory over their opponents. However, with the way he was pushing his entire weight on you and stradling you, and the intense glare of his ruby red Sharingan, made you believe that he was really going to kill you.
You felt the familiarity of his cold and venomous touch caressing the side of your body, and his lips were stretched into a cold wide grin.
“You’d be perfect for the revival of my clan, after I kill Itachi…. Say, [Name], you’ll wait for me, won’t you? You’ll save yourself for our first time and not be with anyone else until I return won’t you?” Sasuke demanded rather than asking, and with each word he had spoken, the animosity in his voice had increased, until he was roughly gripping your face.
Tears were brimming at the corner of your eyes, and you trembled. In that moment, having no means of escape, and defiance being the last thing on your mind, you had nodded and said the words you needed to get him off of you. They saved you in that moment, but promised your demise for the future.
Afterwards, subsequently to Sasuke’s betrayal and departure from the Hidden Leaf, you felt out-casted. While your fellow comrades mourned over his treacherous actions, you were glad. You were happy that Sasuke had left because you were finally given your very much needed peace of mind.
The two and a half years spent without Sasuke, had been some of your best. So, you could only refrain yourself from becoming overwhelmingly consumed by your own anxiety when you were forced to go on his rescue mission.
You tried getting out of it, you really did. But going against someone as stubborn as Naruto or Sakura – and worse, both of them combined, was a battle of the will you were not capable of winning.
For you, anything was better than seeing Sasuke again to the point where you had wished that one of the Akatsuki members had really killed you during Gaara’s rescue expedition.
The moment those beautiful, but incredibly vicious dark eyes had become fixated on you, you knew in the pit of your stomach that this was going to be the beginning of the end for you.
Team Kakashi returned to the village without Sasuke, and without you as well.
Sasuke, with the help of Orochimaru and Kabuto, had managed to grab you, and disappear from the rest of your team with you.
Of course, Sasuke had being away from you for such a long time. As a result, he was so desperate to be with you, that Orochimaru or Kabuto were not even given a second to demean you in anyway for your affiliation to the Leaf. Sasuke had taken you to his room immediately, and despite putting up a fight against him, you were no match for his power.
Easily, Sasuke had tossed you on his bed, and the amount of emotions from seeing you was so intense that his Sharingan had activated subconsciously.
“I hope you’ve kept your promise,” he started, and crawled on top of you. “Because I can’t. I know I said I’ll do this after I kill Itachi, but you’re simply too irresistible.”
After his grand fight with Asuma which had ended in devastation for the Leaf Village, Hidan had come to be on a high. He felt closer to his God, Lord Jashin than ever before. The Jashinist felt as if he could take on any enemy and was starting to take risks that were crazy even for him. At first Kakuzu had tried to correct this in his usual way. He warned Hidan over and over of the dangers of being arrogant. When this failed he had even tried beating some sense into the man.
Of course, Kakuzu realized almost immediately this was a huge mistake as Hidan claimed to enjoy this and just tried to annoyed the other man into doing it more. This left Kakuzu was only one choice, to let Hidan do whatever it was he would do and deal with the clean up later. Luckily for Kakuzu, Hidan seemed content to leave him out of the trouble he was causing.
After each mission was completed Hidan would sneak off on his own something he had been warned to stop doing, but just wouldn’t listen to. Why should he listen? It wasn’t like he had even wanted to be part of Akatsuki in the first place. This was a forced arrangement with a leader he despised. The way Hidan saw it was that it shouldn’t matter what he did in his free time so long as he got his missions done though others tried pointing out that isn’t how team work goes.
Today, Kakuzu had managed to keep Hidan on a fairly tight leash. From sunrise to almost sunset he had kept the Jashinist busy and Hidan loathed the man for it. However, just as the sun set Hidan slipped away. Well, rather Kakuzu finally gave up on controlling the man and allowed him to “slip away”.
Naturally, once Hidan was away from Kakuzu he headed in the direction of the one place he had been warned over and over to stay away from. The Hidden Leaf Village. In his mind he still had unfinished business there. He wanted to see the whole village slaughtered and burned to the ground though Kakuzu and even Pein had warned him to let the situation go. Hidan simply couldn’t do this. Why should he?
He was almost to the outskirts of the village when he saw the outline of a woman. A wicked smile came to the Jashinist’s face. Maybe he could kill this woman in honor his God, Lord Jashin before he went into the village and finished them off. He quickly approached the woman filled with a dangerous amount of confidence.
“Hey! Hey! Lady! I gotta ask ya something!”
Hidan called out in his usual loud fashion trying to get the woman’s attention.
