the mercyverse fancast → robbie kay as BRAN CORNICK
A sandy-haired young man with a nondescript face held a plastic tray loaded with two plastic-wrapped sub sandwiches, a pair of styrofoam cups of hot chocolate, and a dark blue winter jacket. Maybe it was the food, but it occurred to me that if Bran looked that much like the cliché of a delivery boy, it was probably on purpose. He liked to be unobtrusive Bran is scary. He's a little psychic—at least that's what he says if you ask. What that means is that he can talk to any werewolf he knows, mind to mind. That's why Charles was able to be his spokesperson out in the woods. Bran uses that ability, among others, to control the North American packs. He claims it is all one way, that he can make people hear him but not the other way around.

I was mulling over everyone’s least favourite Mercyverse villain (Christy, who makes no fucking sense on any level) trying to figure out how to redeem that plot line and it occurred to me that what we really need here is a story from the perspective of Kyle, divorce lawyer at large, observing a character who is clearly meant to be a weapons-grade NPD type.
(Actually, come to think of it, I’d read whole books of Kyle, actually functional adult gay dude who has Done The Work of addressing his family trauma, observing werewolf marriages with a bucket of popcorn. He could do a podcast with guest speakers. Peggy or Honey could co-host.)

So this bit of Wild Sign has been bothering me for a while:
[“I knew it then, and I know it now. I am not proud of what I did. I bound her wolf to mine by force. She was dying. She was dying and taking Sherwood with her.” He met Charles’s eyes. “I could not bear it, not after Blue Jay Woman. My wolf spirit was looking for surcease, and Leah’s was trying to survive.” He paused, then said, “I do not regret taking Leah as my mate, only that I did it without giving her an alternative.”
Charles gave him a formal nod, though both of them could hear the lie in Bran’s voice.]
Because what was the lie? Charles, I'm pretty sure, thinks the lie was taking Leah as his mate because he compares her to his mother right after. (Or maybe he compares her to his mother because he doesn't think Leah would choose Bran as she did? Its kinda a confusing tangent Charles goes on) But that doesn't /really/ make sense to me because we know that mating Leah saved his life and enabled him to become the Marrok and basically save werewolves as a species. And that he considers himself to be lucky to have found her.
But it just occured to me: the lie is obviously that he regrets not giving her a choice. Bran, the bastard, feels guilty about it but ultimately regrets nothing and would do it all over again. This, I think, is extremely fitting with Brans character as a pragmatic and ruthless dominant wolf.

Anna and Mercy's doormat tendencies.
I dislike how Anna and Mercy are nearly always soooo understanding and forgiving when their husbands treat them like shit. There's that strain of martyrdom/doormatness that i just find pathetic.
How many times has Charles brought Anna around his exes without telling her? Maggie actually meant something to Charles. He loved her once upon a time and Anna is such a martyr of course she never lashes out, gets angry or jealous. She acted more possessive when that schoolteacher flirted with Charles than she did Maggie. How lame.
And let's not forget Mercy, acting like a doormat in Night Broken. Adam would do all these small stupid shitty things, and she never lashes out at him. No its all Martyr Mercy. These days all she does is pacify Adam with sex, sex, sex.
Tumblr media
This is why Leah is my girl. Idc if she causes problems between Bran and his sons. I love that when Bran hurts her, she lashes back, hurting him by causing strife between him and his sons. Or not attending the funeral.

Re-reading Soul Taken and you know what's always the creepiest part about Mercy Thompson novels? When she's mind controlled by magic (again). Because she doesn't know she's mind controlled and it's all from her POV and it's so creepy because we the readers realise she's mind controlled but she doesn't. Creepy as hell.

the mercyverse fancast → vanessa kirby as HONEY JORGENSON
Honey had lost weight since her husband’s death, and she hadn’t been fat to begin with. She’d cut her honey-colored hair into a severe style that framed her face with its newly hollowed cheekbones. With that and her body reduced to muscle and bone, she should have looked hard, but instead she looked fragile.

The dynamics of the Mercyverse make so much more sense if you assume vampires are poly by default, I’m just saying.
The issue is not that Stefan’s in love with Mercy, that’s obvious (He’s also in love with Marsilia, Wulfe, and every single one of his fledgling vampires). The problem is that Mercy’s very strictly monogamous and, also, married elsewhere.
TL;DR Mercyverse vampires are the archetypal Portlander.

Ever think about how Leah was probably closer mentally to ~15 than 20 when she was turned due to having her memory erased and her life as a werewolf was molded by Bran and what Bran thinks a werewolf should be. She is cold, completely in control, and cares only for werewolves and pack and has no use for anyone else. Bran thinks those he loves are his greatest weakness, and Leah rarely loves, and is able to kill those she loves without endangering her control at all.
Idk I'm just saying that if their roles were reversed and Leah thought she needed to kill Bran for the good of the pack and werewolf kind... I 100% believe she could. And she wouldn't go insane either.

Hi, you can call me Storm! I'm 30 and the mom of a loud and demanding cat ❤️
I’m a multiple paragraphs/novella style writer. I love to write detailed descriptions and delve into a character’s head/emotions as well as surroundings. I compare it to writing a novel together. Not every reply has to be novella length, however. If there are action or dialogue heavy scenes, I tend to do a shorter back and forth to keep the momentum going.
I only do MxF (with me writing the female role). I don’t double, but I’m more than happy to write side characters of either gender to help move the story along. I only want female authors writing male characters as I’ve had bad experiences with cis male authors. (Trans men and nonbinary pals are exceptions).
I'm really hoping to find a friendship, someone who can add to our story, and most importantly, someone who wants a long-term connection. It's difficult for me to write with someone if I don't feel that genuine bond. It's also important to me to have a high level of activity, with at least one reply a day.
If you suddenly stop replying ic and ooc, I'll drop the story after 2 attempts of gauging interest spaced a week apart. But feel free to message me if you want to pick the story back up again, even months later.
Searching For:
20+ partners only
An excellent grasp of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and capitalization. (Literate to advanced writers only, please. I'm not looking for newbies)
Plot before smut. While mature themes will be in my writing, there needs to be chemistry between our characters. I normally do a 60/40 plot to smut ratio and my characters tend to be subs/switches depending on the circumstances
An older male character (early forties to mid-late fifties). I love the gruff and tough men with dark pasts who secretly have a soft heart. I also love grumpy, hypermasculine men being intimidated by sweet but fiery women. My characters are mid-late twenties to early-mid thirties so the age gap is legal.
Enthusiasm to chat about our character and ship, how to crush them and then gushing over fluffy moments. I love crying over characters and what the heck they’re doing. I want my heart ripped from my chest from angst, then feeling like it’s going to burst from overwhelming cuteness. I want us to love these characters and the world we create. I want to make pinterest boards, spotify playlists, graphics, and toss headcanons back and forth until late at night.
Have an idea for a scene? Found a picture that inspired you? Send it to me! Be invested when it comes to plotting/worldbuilding. There’s nothing worse than receiving one sentence in reply to two paragraphs of ideas, or having a doormat partner who says “sure” to whatever I ask. Building ideas one on top of the other, watching them snowball into amazing plot threads brings me joy. But having to pull plot ideas like I’m pulling teeth makes me think you’re not interested, and I will lose interest in return.
Interests:
Modern fantasy, monsters, sci-fi, omegaverse, southern gothic/midwest gothic (i’m a sucker for that southern/texas drawl), horror, height/size difference, cheating/affair, enemies to lovers, slow burn romance, spooky small towns, post apocalyptic/dystopia, crime/mysteries, emotionally charged/dark and gritty, bodyguard x assignment, forced proximity, opposites attract, fated mates, anti heroes/morally gray characters, traumatic pasts, grumpy x sunshine, one bed, men who simp over their women, touch her / him and die, and more.
I have lots of original plot ideas in mind as well!
Fandoms (OCs ONLY)
Star Wars, Stranger Things, Mercy Thompson Series, True Blood, The Last of Us, Hunger Games, Fallout (TV Show)
I write only on discord using servers with organized channels. Like this post or add me on discord (magicofrain) if you’re interested. The most effective way to grab my genuine interest is by messaging me as if we've been friends for years. Please let me know which interests you liked from my ad.

I love that Leah is full of anger and spite and offends the readers expectations because lets be honest alot of the readers self insert themselves onto the heroines Anna and Mercy. Leah is the anti-heroine. She's the anti Anna/Mercy. The anti special snowflake. She's a good person at her core but sometimes acts out on her darker/negative feelings which gives her personality more depth, grit and realism unlike Anna or Mercy in my opinion.
The suffering and hardships that she has endured with the Singer and with Bran. The world has fucked her over and she's not what society expects of a victim to be and to act like. She's spiteful, hard, cold and mean and i love that.
That's the kind of character that keeps me interested and invested in a long standing series. Too bad that she's a minor background character. She would make an interesting protagonist unlike the cookie cutter and predictable protags that Anna and Mercy are.
I hope that Patricia Briggs does her and Bran's characters justice in the future.

I'm way behind in reading my kickass-female-protagonist-fantasy-novels so no one else will probably have this experience, but I'm reading Soul Taken 2 weeks after I read Magic Triumphs and it's completely hilarious that Kate was like, "Our opponent this time is a literal dragon, with magic so powerful he cannot exist in our dimension, and he wants to make me his queen. I might not survive this, but I will do everything in my power to ensure that my husband and son are okay." And then Mercy's initial response to the arrival of the plot is more like, "So I just found out that my frenemy who I find legitimately frightening, the one who is actively stalking me right now and probably wants to kill me? Yeah, he used be called the Dragon back in the day. I'm done. I have had it up to here with the dragons. We've had zombie dragons, smoke dragons, let me tell you I did not sign up for this shit."
