Note
the trickening is one of my top ten ducktales episodes a) because of how family-focused it was and because of the little crumbs of pre-Scrooge life we got b) everyone in cute new outfits and c) LP reading the candy ingredient information is literally one of the funniest punchlines ducktales ever had. plus it had some genuinely cool horror visuals! I'm lowkey shocked this episode isn't popular, it's truly so good
trickening is GENUINELY peak, it's so good. I LOVE their stupid little outfits, I feel like most of the episode, instead of "Let's put that guy in a situation," it's just, "Look. It's that guy. He's so silly."
Holiday episodes, man.

Nothing will ever be as adorable as Huey dressing up as Gizmoduck for Halloween

I realized that all three seasons of DT17 contain a moment where an adventurer, or a pilot, experiences some kind of struggle with a dragon-like monster. And in most of these cases, the monster is ultimately defeated with a strong blast of power.
Pixiu was accidentally released from imprisonment similarly to how Launchpad believe he had unleased a demon curse on Duckburg
The “demons” were on the hunt for candy in the same way Pixiu was after gold
The defragon that Launchpad rode in “Happy Birthday, Doofus Drake!” was given the same color palette as The Sunchaser; making it feel strangely reminiscent of Scrooge’s battle with Pixiu
While Scrooge wasn’t dressed as a dragon for Halloween, or blasted with some kind of blue-green energy, having him fight a pilot in a skeleton costume seems to draw a strong connect to the ceiling decorations at Hazel House

Okay someone explain to me why Terror of the Terra-firmians is the DuckTales Halloween episode in Disney Plus’s Halloween collection and not THE TRICKENING?!?! Which is literally an episode set on Halloween?
and how are you gonna forget Amphibia’s The Shut-In?!?! uniconic behavior if you ask me.

OK SO I TOTALLY FORGOT HOW AWESOME THIS EPISODE IS
Huey MADE HIS OWN CARDBOARD GIZMODUCK ARMOUR
Dewey is just so chill
Louie is.... LOUIE YOU LITERALLY TRIED HARDER WITH YOUR HUEY COSTUME IN "GLOMTALES" OR "BEAKS IN THE SHELL" COME ON MAN
And Webby is such a nerd I love her so much
But OH
SCROOGE
HE IS EVERYTHING I ONE DAY ASPIRE TO BE
I too want to be that one random old person who still celebrates Halloween like a little kid
I love his enthusiasm, he's actually adorable HELP

Well, me being me, I don’t have the capacity to effectively live blog and watch at the same time, so I’m just gonna do my thing now, since I’m done my rewatch of The Trickening!.
I mean, it’s a holiday episode, so it’s not necessarily supposed to drive the story forward, but it’s got depth to it. Huey trying to keep his siblings on schedule, Louie leading them on a wild goose chase through an abandoned house; it’s the same kind of brotherly conflict that you’d get from a regular episode.
The B-plot was awesome. I loved Launchpad’s dynamic with Della and Donald, and I actually find it interesting that he didn’t realize what exactly Halloween was for the longest time. Him reading candy ingredients as if they were ancient text was hilarious, and he ended up scaring the monsters themselves. The episode was right; for someone who didn’t get the basics of Halloween, Launchpad sure was good at it.
Also, the costumes were brilliant; Huey making his own Gizmoduck costume (I love the idea that he got help on it from Fenton, which I initially read in a story); Dewey being laid-back, Louie being simplistic with his costume, Webby going back to, really, the roots of Halloween with hers, Scrooge being both scary and dapper at the same time, Della and Donald being all Yin and Yang, and Launchpad trying to be intimidating against “The Hungries” with his hockey mask and…well, table saw.
So, yeah, really fun Halloween episode. And really fun event. We should try this again some time.

I like how Louie wants to find a stash of old ass, dusty, probably illness causing candy.

about to hit play on the Trickening, but how FUCKIN cool is it they got to have the whole family together for a halloween episode. What a USELESS episode to the season. Advances NOTHING. Just everyone at their ABSOLUTE stupidest. I'd watch a whole season. God.
