#there are sea monster Martin AUs
genrebender · 1 year
Text
So I’m part of a ridiculous amount of fandoms and I read a LOT of fan-fiction so I know that every fandom has certain AUs that are popular within them for one reason or another.
So a lot of fandoms have the occasional mermaid au, so mermaid aus are relatively common. While mermaid aus are common selkie aus are usually very rare.
Thing is in the TMA fandom I’ve never seen a mermaid au but there are LOTS of selkie aus.
I’ve just found this really interesting and I’ve been wondering what it says about the fandom and the fans that this overall rare AU is extremely common in that fandom?

Hello Tumblr! I have created a Magnus Archives AU and I'm actually in the process of writing for it! It's in the planning stages but I can tell you it's going to be a fantasy au inspired by the Little Mermaid and also the Netflix movie The Sea Beast, which is a fantastic piece of animation and I recommend you all watch it, such brain worms! Anyway, this AU will contain: Jon as a siren who's the last of his kind, Peter Lukas and his crew of Monster hunters, a Poet Martin and Sea Witch Elias (as well as many character cameos as I can throw in there!) It's going to be rated high for adult content because I am an adult, and you can find it when it goes up on my AO3: InternetCannibal, or here! There's also fanart already! You can thank @dcartcorner for drawing Simon, one of Peter's crew :)
Anyway! I hope people enjoy this AU! I will share more soon, I promise! (I have to be more active on here anyway :)
Update: I'm now tagging this au with the tag: #the storm singer au!

Picking back up an AU that I haven't talked about in FOREVER. It's ocean blue!
Previously, I mentioned how ocean blue Chris has been starting to show signs of not being fully human. He's slowly but noticeably growing fangs, he's having vivid nightmares about being an uncontrollable monster, and he's suddenly craving meat like, all the time.
Martin hasn't said anything about it except that Chris' scent has... changed, somehow. On the bright side, his sea monster half no longer wants to eat his brother. On the downside, he has no idea wtf is happening to his little brother and he's trying to be emotional support but he's not sure if he's helping.
Chris is trying to remain calm. A, to avoid potentially offending Martin by not wanting to be any kind of monster. And B, because he doesn't want anyone on the team to freak out.

📓!
The Magnus Archives canon divergent AU from the season 4 trailer onwards, in which John (somehow) became a sea monster empowered by the Vast. This frees the assistants from the Institute, and Melanie and Basira try their best to move on with their lives. Tries is a key word when Melanie still has the Slaughter bullet, but that's not the point here.
Martin, meanwhile, joins Peter on the Tundra because he doesn't think he has anything else in life. There's something keeping him from fully joining the Lonely, though - strange glimpses of scales under the waters. A haunting voice on the wind.
(Somehow John and Martin get to run away together to a cottage by the sea.)
Put "📓" into my inbox and I'll explain the plot of a fanfiction that I haven't written but daydream about.

any fic recs for tma? i just finished mag 200 (finally) and im.. in mourning
Oh boy do I!
Resigned, Though Not to Fate by inkfingers_mcgee- best tma fic I’ve found, hands down. read this at 3 am and convinced myself it was the canon plot for a good 2 weeks
Tell Your Tears to the Sea (At the Turn of the Tide) by bresby- somewhere else but it’s also a selkie au
vi. the lovers by pyrrhlc- really short but really well written, extremely sad in a bittersweet way
Two Graves by SupposedToBeWriting- changed how I viewed Jon and Martin’s dynamic forever
A Brighter Universe by SupposedToBeWriting- listen I disliked childhood friends trope before this fic but Holy Shit it’s so incredibly in character. Also 2 parts so a nice long bit of content
Just a Million Miles from Home by Simply_Hopeless- “sent back to s1 after s5” trope but by talos this one is good. It’s also got monster Jon and badass Martin
look no further by inkyindigo- collection of times Martin’s picked Jon up. Yeah
Shallows by inkfingers_mcgee- another selkie au
Out There, Somewhere by Artyphex- Jon accidentally creates an ARG and Martin mourns in West Virginia. The description sounds silly but it changed the trajectory of my life
Prenons-nous la main by luftballons99- obligatory safehouse fic

the official poster of the Prologue Arc of the ApolloEra, an Unofficial AU Crossover between the SCP Foundation and Godzilla overall, and as a homage to the Heisei Era in some aspects, it will include some elemts of the plot of the ps4 game just like with the zajiaoverse's storyline, but that won't be until series 3. which really takes up the notch of being a true homage to the heisei era, this is more or less an prologue series because i realized that series 1, aka God Of The Monsters, is gonna be more or less an callback to the Showa Era if it was more or less in a heisei era like aspect. this is basically Series 0 of the ApolloEra, titled as Birth Of Godzilla. and yes this was purely inspired by Godzilla Zero/Minus One's trailer to have the prologue series be it's own thing, here is the plot and summary.
Plot: The Foundation in it's early days before containment was fully made, had faced an abundance of strange anomalies and what not that posed an threat to the world, while most have been somewhat secured. it wasn't until a few years after 682's discovery in 1906, that an new type of Anomaly, far more different than the SCPS have appeared, with only one major threat that has proven to be quite the disaster, an ancient sea dragon known only in odo island folklore as an god incarnate called simply... Godzilla.
Summary: The World is given an Grim reminder that man is not so superior to life as all would like to believe, as nuclear tests continue on and on, two groups, the SCP Foundation, and MONARCH, alongside the Global Occult Coalition, discovered an ancient anomalous creature that is feared on an island as a god incarnate based off of an legendary sea dragon called Gojira. where they all see the terror and wrath of what would be known today as, the king of monsters himself... Godzilla.
here is the list of episodes in this order.
1- Gojira Awakens (takes place during 1912)
2- Terror Of Odo Island (takes place during 1918)
3- Ghost Of Slumber Island (Takes Place in 1925)
4- Lucky Dragon (takes place during 1933)
5- The Lonely Behemoth (takes place during 1941)
6- The Broken God (Takes Place During 1943)
7- From Zero To Minus (Takes Place During 1945)
8- Minus One (Takes Place during 1946)
9- Incident Zero (Takes Place During 1947)
10- The Demon Beast (Takes Place During 1950) 11- An Ghostly Whale (Takes Place during 1952)
12- 20,000 Fathoms (Takes Place during 1953)
13- Hellfire Of Tokyo (takes place during 1954)
14- Symbol Of Fear (takes place during Mid 1954)
15- End Of The Terror? (takes place during Late 1954)
Human Characters are of course the Of cast, like Steve Martin, Emiko, Ogata, Serizawa, etc, but also with some returning characters from the Zajiaoverse and maybe the MutantoVerse, and also the Foundation itself, with some original characters both human, kaijus, and anomalies also being present. alongside the GOC, as for kaijus, it is obviously gonna be Godzilla, and if you all can't tell yet, Rhedosaurus. they'll probably be more but eh, gotta make the cast first. because im also lowkey lazy here is the link to the full thing, https://www.deviantart.com/toonartist403/art/ApolloEra-Birth-Of-Godzilla-Poster-970532278 credits of those involved will be in the said link, go check it out, very sorry for how uh. dead this blog has been, we've been more focused on the discord side of things ^^; -Admin Toon

WIP Ask Game
Rules are: post the barebones plot of your wips and let people send you an ask with the title that intrigues them the most, then post a snippet/tell them something about it! Then, tag as many people as you have wips. I was tagged by @phoebenavarro, thank you for the tag!!
So I've only got 1 WIP that I'm actively working on but I have the notes created for a few fics so ill put them all
THE TRUE WIP:
-Lonely!Martin is arranged married to Peter and then meets Jarchivist Sims and oh maybe Martin doesn't want to be lonely anymore (loosely inspired by "Guilty Pleasure" by Mia Dimšić from Eurovision)
PLANNED STORIES
-The final entry of my House in the Cerulean Sea AU
-Vast!Martin fic that talks a lot about stargazing and has 0% actual science to it (I think space is neat! I'm also afraid of space! I will steal the aesthetic for Martin and ignore the science)
-Scottish safe house fic based on the song "Flesh and Bone" by Joe Iconis (the song is about robots *however* one of the lines is VERY Jon in his "I'm a monster" phase <3)
-Clone Jon AU. Its... convoluted to say the least but I can explain!
-And a non-TMA fic! -Jack of All Trades fic talking about how Jose and Ilci got together and also exploring Jack and Jose friendship
I will now tag @magnetarmadda @hihereami @judesstfrancis as people who i know write things and then let anyone else who stumbles across this take part if they please!

ok so like, third tma au idea of the day but: au where everything’s the same except they have animal features. jon’s a cat, tim’s a bird of paradise, but mostly importantly; elias is a crow and sasha is a sheep
however, not!sasha is a wolf, making her quite literally a wolf in sheep’s clothing. and for elias, well, thats just a Murder joke
no idea what martin would be but bugs do not count, only the bad guys can be bugs

AU idea
I love musical movies and adventures and music animatics, so imagine for me if you will-
Wild Kratts universe...with monsters. Forest monsters like Bigfoot, fairies/fae, mothmen, tree spirits, river nymphs, etc live peacefully in forests all over the world. Sea monsters of all varieties lurk the waters. Griffins and hippogriffs roam the wild deserts and skies. And so many more lurk everywhere on earth.
Aviva, Koki, and Jimmy Z are still protagonists, though they are now the primary users of the Creature Power Suits and main protagonists.
Zach, Donita, Gourmand, and Paisley still exist as main/side villains, depending on the scenario. They’re still the nature-hating, creature-capturing dinguses we know and love.
The Kratt brothers, on the other hand... The brothers are our main antagonists in this universe, with a disregard for human and animal life, a new look, and some interesting new powers...! Siren Powers!
Tumblr media
As sirens, they can both use their voices to create illusions, whether seemingly out of light/shadow or a firm image that one can touch with their bare hands, and use their voices to manipulate and control a target if they so desire. Martin is certainly the more manipulative and sleazy of the two using his voice when he absolutely has to, while Chris is very flashy and boisterous, using his power of illusion to put on grand performances. After all, sirens have to make a living.
So, how are they villains in this universe?
Their desire to dominate the earth and bring Sirens to the top of the food chain. Yep, they’ve got a superiority complex and have a bit of a lowkey hatred for humans. Why? I will reveal this later. But for now, I leave you with this concept and I will make more art for it later on.

do you have recs for jon for other entities? like end!jon or spiral!jon?
Hello! Here are a bunch
See the Line where the Sky meets the Sea by The_Floating_World . 59k words. Vast Avatar Jon, minor Jmart and Jon/Oliver.
Summary: When Jon is a child he looks into the infinite abyss of space.  The Vast looks back into him.
In Elegy, Love me by beepun. 20k words. WIP. End Avatar Jon. Jmart. Pushing Daisies AU.
Summary: Someone is dead. That’s old news, as there is always someone dead when the Head Archivist of London’s Magnus Institute is involved.A Pushing Daisies Au
Terror management theory by prismatical. 36k words. End/Eye Avatar Jon. Temporary Character Death. Jmart.
Summary: “It’s a preexisting condition,” Jon explains, sipping more bitter tea.  “I sort of got—hm. You know Spiderman?”
Tim raises an eyebrow.“Heard of him, yeah.”
Jon nods, studying his tea.
“It’s sort of like that,” he says. “A spider killed and ate me when I was a child, and now I can’t stay dead.”
-
Resurrection isn't all it's cracked up to be.
Sucker's Bet by yellow_caballero. 61k words. Web Avatar Jon. Deconstruction of romcoms. Jmart.
Summary: 27M seeking The Perfect Man: must be passionate, rich, attractive, charismatic, honest, and ready to love.
Jonathan Sims, Avatar of the Web, is the perfect man. He likes Martin, and Martin likes him back. He probably doesn't even have egg sacs. What's the problem?
Well, there's Jon's vain and ditzy personality. There's his overprotective family and meddling sister. And there's the small matter of a two way bet between them: that Jon can't make a man into a monster, and that Martin can't make a monster into a man, in ten days.
There's no way this can go wrong. Maybe there's no way this can go right. And if Jonathan Sims knows, why isn't he telling?
How big, how blue (how beautiful) by screechfox. 17k words. Vast Avatar Jon. Mike Crew/Jon
Summary: From the moment Jon and Mike meet as teenagers, they're caught in each other's orbits.
Occupational Hazards by sunflowerprince. 113k words. Hunt Avatar Jon. Jmart, canon divergence, everyone is an avatar of some time
Summary: Welcome to the Magnus Institute, a creature feature where representatives from every Entity collaborate to preserve and investigate artefacts, examine public testimonials, conduct paranormal research, and yes, occasionally exterminate. There are our rapscallions we're fond of, such as that silly Distortion, always getting up to hijinks and light maiming. But then there are our liabilities, such as Nikola Orsinov and Jude Perry, who really could use some premeditated murder, which our team captain Basira Hussain is more than happy to arrange. We also must eliminate any and all manifestations of the Extinction, because we're trying to have a nice time here.
Feat. Head Archivist and Resident Vampire Jonathan Sims and his Archival Staff, Task Force Captain and Resident Phoenix Basira Hussain and her Squad, and Director Elias Bouchard, which we have no idea what the fuck he is but he sure is something. With special appearances from several departments to include Research speared by Peter Lukas, and our pool of consultants, to include our favourite podcaster and avatar of The End, Georgie Barker.
Step right in and mind the bloodshed and cassettes.
Merry-Go-Round by Prim_The_Amazing. 20k words. Stranger Avatar Jon. Pre-canon, angst
Summary: This place is creepy. His immediate instinct is to turn back around and leave.
And go where? Back to his empty flat? To a bar, to drink himself miserably drunk?
Jon heads deeper inside the taxidermy store. He has to walk slowly, carefully, and still almost pulls a fox to the floor when its fangs snag on his shirt. He’s carefully plucking the fabric free from the teeth when a light, airy, feminine voice says, “My, my, what do we have here?”
i said i wanted to worship something series by louscr. 8k words. WIP. Hunt Avatar Jon and Slaughter Avatar Martin. childhood friends, pre-canon
Summary of the first part: Jonathan Sims is not born a snarling, ravenous thing. He is born quietly, grows quietly, and watches in silence as slow years pass him by: as his mother and father are buried, and his grandma tugs him through the aftermath.
 (His eyes are much too wide, much too watchful. His teeth are not yet sharp.)
Dread Child Jon series by Ketakoshka. 55k words. One shots for every entity

The red strings of fate (Can go fuck themselves) Jonelias, eugenics au) Jon is someone who never ever wanted to have a partner, but the system matches him to some bastard name Elias Bouchard. Jon's only way out of having children (legally) is to be a holy terror of a wife. Shenanigans ensue. Smutty, fluffy, light hearted i guess. Elias is not evil and Jon is ace spec WIP)

Meanwhile, in The Chris Crisis au....
~~~~~~~~~~
Martin, talking to the camera: Ok, so recently we got a new Chris, and I named him Jet. Do you wanna know why?
Martin picked a treat bag up off the counter, and shook it.
Almost immediately, a light blue blur came barreling towards him faster than all the other chrises.
It slid to a stop at Martin's feet and began to climb him, squawking hungrily. Martin stared down at the sky blue Chris and laughed.
Martin, tossing the chris a treat: There he is! My speedy blue boy! The one and only Jet!
Jet grabbed the treat right out of the air and happily scarfed it down.
But while Martin wasn't paying attention, the other Chrises that had been summoned by the treat bag, also began to climb and crowd Martin.
Martin, losing his balance due to the sheer amount of chrises: Woah! Woah, calm down everyone!
Martin and the treat bag were both pulled down into the sea of chrises, and the bag was immediately ripped to shreds by the hoard of hungry little monsters.
Martin, rescuing the camera from the ravenous hoard: Ugh, maybe shaking the bag wasn't the best idea.
jmart first kiss? mayhapse in an au?
another merperson au, only this time Martin gets to be the monster!
______________
Jon was frankly shocked with how quickly Martin had taken to him. He knew he was hardly the most appealing of people, and wasn't sure what a human would see in him, let alone a merperson. But when he'd chanced upon Martin, sunning himself on the rocks by the beach where Jon often took his morning walks, it didn't take them long to strike up a sort of . . . rapport. Jon had been more than a little starstruck, distracted by the light reflecting off Martin's lovely blue scales, but he must have managed to say something right, because Martin had asked if he might find him on that beach again, sometime soon.
So, two days later, Jon was keeping his promise, heading back towards the beach from town where he'd picked up some breakfast for them both. He wasn't sure what Martin would like, or even really what he ate, so he'd brought some of everything: fruit, meat, fish, bread and cheese, and some pastries for good measure. He was a little nervous, which was silly, because this was only their second meeting, and it was hardly a date. Still, the thought of seeing Martin's dark, pretty eyes again made Jon wish he'd worn a slightly nicer outfit.
When Jon arrived at the rocky outcropping, Martin was already there, lounging on his side and letting the waves crash over his tail as he stared out at the sea before him, much the same as he'd found him two days ago. He really was stunning, Jon thought; his dark skin, dotted with freckles, shone in the pink morning light, his cloud of hair all but dried in the sea breeze, his magnificently long, broad tail almost glowing in the sun. He looked like a king surveying his kingdom.
And then, as Jon began to climb the rocks to join him, Martin looked down at him and a smile broke across his face, bright as the light coming off his scales. Jon could see that his mouth was filled with razor-sharp teeth. "Jon!" he called, and Jon, panting a bit, waved back as he crested the rockface. "You came. I didn't think . . ."
"Of course I came," Jon said, a tad breathlessly, depositing his bag of food and sitting down next to Martin. The seaspray up here was welcome but constant, and he set about untying his boots to let his feet get wet. "I'm sorry it took me so long."
"You didn't have to," Martin said. "Most people don't. It's not exactly convenient." He gestured at the secluded area around them.
"It was no trouble. I live close by this beach and it's very beautiful, here." Jon glanced over at Martin, trying not to appear too smitten. "And I really enjoyed our talk. After I left the other day, I kept thinking about you. I couldn't wait to see you again." Jon forced himself to stop talking; he had a sinking suspicion he'd said too much already.
Martin was staring at him with those pretty eyes of his, his expression soft and intrigued. "I had a really nice time too, Jon."
"I, ah--I brought breakfast," Jon burst out, and pulled his bag over to show Martin what was inside. "I wasn't sure what you liked, so . . . I got a bit of everything. Take whatever you like, please."
Martin eagerly examined the goods, eventually choosing a trout, which he ate whole and raw, and several oranges, which he used his sharp claws to peel in record time. Jon tucked into the bread and cheese and a few of the pastries. He and Martin shared the oranges, passing slices back and forth, as they continued their conversation from before almost seamlessly.
It was remarkably easy, talking to Martin, and fascinating as well; Jon had never properly met a merperson before and Martin had so many stories to tell. He was eager, too, to hear about Jon's life as a human, but Jon suspected that was merely polite interest.
Before Jon knew it, they'd nearly emptied the bag of food and the morning had all but passed. Jon had errands to run and work to do, but he didn't want to leave Martin's side. Up here, on the soaked rocks with the sea stretched out before him, with such lovely company, Jon couldn't recall feeling so at home before.
"I should go," Jon said at last, trying not to sound as morose as he felt.
"Oh," said Martin, shoulders drooping in disappointment. He peered closely at Jon's face. "You have to," he said, a statement, not a question.
"Yes. Unfortunately." Jon slung his bag over his shoulder, and reached for his boots. "But listen, this was--this was very nice, and we should do it again soon."
"Tomorrow?" said Martin, perking up a bit.
It was so soon, but Jon's stomach fluttered in excited anticipation. "Ah--y-yes. Tomorrow is good. If that's alright with you?"
Martin grinned wide, and there was another flash of two rows of sharp, white teeth. "Tomorrow, then." And, before Jon could finish lacing his first boot, Martin leaned in close and kissed him, careful but insistent, on the cheek. He kept his mouth closed, mindful of his teeth, but Jon nearly jumped out of his skin in surprise anyway, and Martin pulled away almost at once.
"Oh, Jon, I'm sorry--I-I thought--" Martin looked horribly embarrassed, biting his lip nervously with one of his fangs.
Jon's face, he imagined, was probably about the same color the sunrise had been, but he shook his head repeatedly. "No, no, Martin, it's alright--" He leaned back towards Martin and took his clawed hands, wanting to reassure. "You--you caught me by surprise, is all. I--that was--" Jon made a little noise of frustration--words!--and instead leaned forward and pressed his lips to Martin's.
He felt Martin go still against him, but after a second or two he relaxed, leaning into the kiss and wrapping his arms around Jon's waist. Jon felt something damp and scaly against his legs, and when he opened an eye, he saw Martin's tail winding around them, the bright blue standing out beautifully against Jon's dark skin.
Though Jon had initiated the kiss, Martin quickly took charge, pressing himself insistently close and putting his teeth to good use by nipping at Jon's lip in a way that made his legs go weak. Jon couldn't recall ever being kissed so thoroughly before, and for a few minutes he happily lost himself in it, basking in Martin's careful attention, until they both had to come up for air. Or, at least, Jon did; he wondered, in the back of his mind, whether Martin needed to breathe, or if his gills took care of it for him.
Martin pressed one last closed-mouth kiss to Jon's lips, and began untangling himself. "You should get going," he said, sweetly and perhaps a bit self-assuredly.
"Right," said Jon, looking down at his one unlaced boot, dangling precariously from his foot. He tied it carefully, and then moved on to the other one, as Martin looked on curiously.
"That must get so annoying," said Martin.
"It rather does," Jon said, and, feeling bold, pressed another kiss to Martin's cheek. "I'll see you tomorrow, then?"
Sharp fangs made their appearance again, standing out against an adoring expression. "See you tomorrow, Jon."
