peter with a reader who always forgets things??!?!
like she forgets where she put her sword and to drink water and he has to constantly chase after her and remind her??
that's so cute
ty babe <3
peter pevensie with a gf who forgets things.

♬ fandom: chronicles of narnia
♯ genre: fluff
♪ mars thoughts: AJAJAJAJJA I LOVE HIM SM <33 this is perfect because he’s the loml and i suck at remembering stuff 😭 also i put it as hcs cause that’s how i first imagined it in my head!! dividers by @/benkeibear
♮nav - masterlist
Tumblr media
hes so <3
like you’re just walking around minding your own business and then you’re like “hey. wait where’s my water???”
and then your pretty bf is beside you holding it like “you forgot it AGAIN”
and then he lovingly makes fun of you for forgetting you put your water bottle in his hands before walking away and not saying anything
other than the fact he’s constantly chasing you to remind you where you put something (and this can be fairly annoying to him) he finds it cute <3
he’d try to find a way to help you remember when you put them but you forgot how to remember it 😭
you tried dw
he also. kinda hoped you didn’t because he liked being the person you came to when you needed help finding stuff
he seems like one of those people who gets rlly happy knowing he helped another person
so it’s like a huge ego/energy boost for him
BUT if he’s leaving for somewhere and won’t be back for awhile he starts writing down where you put things and gives you the paper so you can look and add to it <3
would def say “don’t forget you have the paper” to be a lovingly boyfriend bitch
ALSO ALSO if you forgot your sword it’d be the funniest thing ever to him
cause like you’re this rlly strong and talented and very pretty sword wielding girlboss
and nobody knows that seconds before you wielded the sword you couldn’t even remember where you put it
and if you forget things like drinking water or even eating cause your busy
he’s a little upset cause like. you’ll die?? if you don’t?? but he doesn’t ever like chastise you cause he knows you’re busy
so he just reminds you or brings you water and food and is kinda just like “eat”
also. he didn’t cook that food. man can’t cook for shit
but if you forget it because you’re just forgetful and not busy hed def scold you a little
it’s not that like. effective 😭 cause he’s just standing there like “you can’t not eat y/n!! >:(”
AND if it takes place in the normal world instead of narnia and y’all go to the same school i have some thoughts
you’ll be like sitting in the cafeteria kinda upset cause you forgot your lunch
and he comes up and sits with you and has like a whole extra lunch prepared
hes so <3
and if you forget to do your homework or some shit like that right before the teacher comes to collect it he slides his hw onto your desk and tells you to write your name and gets in trouble for you
and then susan gets mad at him and everytime she knows you have homework she makes you come over and helps you with it <3
and he also helps!! i feel like he’s english/history smart and susan is geography/math smart so they like choose certain subjects to help with
it gets to the point where they have a whole detailed schedule
edmund is horrified with it because it hangs on the wall and is extremely visible
hes known for trying to destroy it with lucy’s help but that’s not important
MOVINGGGGG ONNNNNN
he’s overbearing. and he knows it.
at first he tries to like not immediately think you’re leaving after forgetting something
BUT HE CANT HELP IT
he asks what you forgot and when you run back inside to get it he probably starts laughing
i’ve officially run out of ideas for this <3 but tysm for requesting it
it made my brain itch /pos

“The White Witch is coming. You all must work on your skills.” Aslan told the young Kings and Queens.
“Will you teach us?” Lucy asked walking closer to Aslan as they followed him to their tent.
“We all will young one. I do have someone in mind to teach you all different things.” Aslan answered Lucy with a heart felt chuckle.
“Who?” Susan asked once they stopped walking, wondering who the loin had in mind.
Aslan turned to face the children before answering the older girl. “She is skilled in everything you all will need to know, no matter the situation at hand.”
“A girl?” Edmund asked pulling a face and for that Peter smacked him upside the head.
“We would love to learn from her.” Peter smiled apologetically to Aslan on behalf of his brother.
“Agreed.” Lucy and Susan said at the same time also smiling.
“Yeah, whatever.” Edmund mumbled rubbing the back of his head.
Aslan gave a nod. “Then you’ll all start tomorrow. As for now, get some rest. You’ll all need it.”
^ ^ ^
“I see you all are ready.” Aslan said as he approached the field he had them escorted to.
“We are.” Susan nodded, she was ready to learn.
“Good, Your teacher should be here soon.” Aslan stated before looking around to see her figure coming through the mountains. “An there she is.”
A girl around Peter and Susan’s age came down the hill on a beautiful black stallion. As she got closer her features became more apparent and Peter, well Susan had to nudge him to close his mouth.
“Hey, I hope you all weren’t waiting to long.” Y/n smiled sheepishly as she dismounted her horse.
“Nonsense, Y/n.” Aslan smiled at the young warrior. He had known her, her entire life. Seeing the girl always brought a smile to his face. He knew she was the perfect one for this. “Y/n this is Lucy, Edmund, Susan, and Peter.”
Y/n smiled giving a gentle wave. “Nice to meet you all.”
“Children this is Y/n. She’ll be the one teaching you all.” Aslan explained as he also introduced them.
“Its nice to meet you.” Susan spoke up since Peter couldn’t stop staring. She reached out and the to shake hands.
“Likewise your majesty.” Y/n smiled.
“Please just call us by our names.” Lucy smiled at the older girl, enjoying the energy she let off.
“Yes, please.” Susan nodded in agreement with Lucy’s statement.
“As you wish.” Y/n nodded agreeing to what they had asked. “Shall we get started?”
With that Y/n started showing them different things. Such as knife throwing, basic field first aid, archery, and now sword fighting.
“You should introduce yourself personally.” Susan suggested to Peter as she walked over to stand next to him. The two watched Y/n teach Lucy ways for her to use a sword at her weight and height disadvantage.
“Should I?” Peter genuinely asked.
Susan nodded smiling at him, she had never seen Peter so into a girl before. “You like her. I can tell. Hell, it’s obvious Peter.”
“That obvious?” Peter grimaced smiling shyly.
“Yes. But it seems she is oblivious to it.” Susan nodded towards the Y/h/c-ed girl a few feet in front of them. “Go for it.”
Once the two siblings were done talking they noticed it was Peter’s turn now that Lucy was done. How convenient.
“Hey, Peter right?” Y/n asked smiling up at the blonde as he approached her for his turn.
“Yeah. Y/n right?” Peter smiled nodding at her. He noticed that he had done a lot of smiling around her today.
“Yeah.” Y/n let out a light laugh at the boy's words. How they mimicked her own. Y/n looked up at Peter with a smile. “You ready Peter?”
“Absolutely.” He nodded pulling out his sword.
“They’d be cute together.” Lucy giggled nudging Susan whose face matched Lucy’s.
“They would be.” Susan agreed
Aslan chuckled deeply standing next to the young women.
“What's so funny?” Lucy asked Aslan smiling mischievously at the loin.
Alsan smiled over at the two and they could tell he knew a lot more than he let on. “There are many prophecies for the daughters of Eve and the sons of Adam.”
Susan squinted her eyes before asking. “Are you saying that who we end up with is also prophesized?”
Aslan nodded with a hum. “Part’s of them, yes.”
“So are Y/n and Peter?” Lucy wondered out loud smiling over towards Peter and Y/n’s direction.
“Yes young one, they are. But let’s keep that between us for now.” He gave Lucy and Susan a knowing look. The girls couldn’t help but smile at eachother. They wouldn’t tell their brother but they couldn’t wait to watch their love story play out.

the golden witch | peter pevensie x fem!reader
description: y/n returns to narnia with the pevensies and discovers something powerful about herself.
trigger warnings: mentions of anxiety, mentions of war/violence, mentions of death, etc.
requested by: @oyasumimosura
word count: 3k
The warm air gently grazed across your skin, causing an array of goosebumps to sprout along your arms and legs. Your pupils dilated as you looked up to see the clouds gloomy over Aslan's How. Your lips enclosed together as you sat atop the bricks, overlooking the empty field.
Your eyes flickered golden as you scanned the perimeter, letting the wind softly move through the strands of your hair. Your fingers rested against the stone as your legs dangled over the ledge.
"Is something on your mind, Y/N?" Peter's voice broke you from the comfortable silence that filled the air.
"A lot of things, actually," You replied in a soft whisper as Peter took a seat beside you, his knee gently brushed against your thigh as he situated himself close to you.
Peter's silence was a way for you to know that you could continue and express what was on your mind. It was something that you picked up on from knowing him for so long.
"It's getting easier to control," You looked down at your hands and motioned your fingertips to release a glitter of golden, yellow energy that surrounded your hand. "The longer that I'm here, the stronger I become, Peter," You admitted, looking to him as you found his gaze was already locked with yours.
"What do you mean?" Peter questioned softly.
"Maybe I shouldn't go back," You replied. Peter's lips parted as you continued to speak, "I don't ever have to hide myself, Peter. Back in England, I'm always trying to conceal what I was born with. Here, I don't have to. I can finally own it and do good with it."
You could see Peter was both worried, but also delighted for you. You felt him inch closer to you as you took the opportunity to wrap your arms around his torso, as his draped around your shoulders.
"You never wanted to go back, did you?" Peter questioned after a few moments of stillness.
"No," You admitted, "This is my home."
You could hear Peter's smile growing as you kept yourself close against him. In the distance of the How, you could see a group of men marching forth and onto the field. Your lips parted slowly as you pulled back from Peter, slowly standing up onto the ledge of stone.
"Peter.." You breathed out softly as the Telmarines emerged from the trees. The High King stood up and examined the troops stood before the How.
.
Releasing a couple nervous breaths, you stood before the table that was in the center of the room, preparing protection sachets for Susan and Lucy. Your fingers grabbed a pinch of ground dill and lavender, placing them into the two cloths. Using your fingertips, you gently motioned them above the ingredients in the cloth and let a glitter of gold fall upon them. Swiftly, you tied the two cloths with a string.
"Cakes and kettledrums! That's your next big plan? Sending a little girl alone into the darkest parts of the forest alone?" Trumpkin stood across the table from you, worried for Lucy.
"It's our only chance," Peter stated.
"And she won't be alone," Susan interjected.
You watched as Trumpkin walked towards Lucy with a saddened expression, "Haven't enough of us died already?"
Trufflehunter spoke up from the corner of the room, "Nikabrik was my friend too, but he lost hope. Queen Lucy hasn't. And neither have I."
You offered a soft grin, remembering Aslan from when you arrived in Narnia for the first time.
"For Aslan," Reepicheep stated.
The Bulgy Bear stood behind Peter, "For Aslan!"
Trumpkin stared at Lucy, "I'm going with you."
"No, we need you here," Lucy replied and rested a hand on his shoulder.
"They'll be safe," You held the sachets in your hands and walked towards Lucy and Susan. "Keep these on you at all times and any danger will stay off your path," You handed one of the sachets to Lucy and the other to Susan.
"Thanks," Susan offered a small grin.
"We have to hold them off until Lucy and Susan get back," Peter suggested.
"If I may.." Caspian started and stepped forward to Peter, "Miraz may be a tyrant and a murderer. But as king, he is subject to the traditions and expectations of his people. There is one in particular that may buy us some time."
.
Walking out of Aslan's How with Peter and Edmund, you could hear the Narnians cheering their kings on with all their might and will. You stood close beside Peter as the three of you stood before the circle of cement in which the single combat would take place.
"Here," You placed a small strengthening sachet into Peter's pocket, in order for him to keep a strong sense of stamina throughout his fight.
"Thank you," Peter offered a small grin. He, then, drew his sword and stepped forward. You remained back with Edmund.
Miraz also stepped forward and the two of them began to circle the cement.
"There is still time to surrender," Miraz stated.
"Well, feel free," Peter replied.
"How many more must die for the throne?" Miraz questioned.
"Just one," Peter pulled down his helmet and jumped at Miraz. The two of them begin fighting, clashing their swords against one another's shields as the armies cheered from behind them.
Peter struck Miraz in the back. Miraz knocked off Peter's helmet, and then his coif. Peter swung low, and sliced at Miraz's leg. Miraz took a strike at Peter causing him to fall over, but quickly turned over. Miraz swung his blade again, but Peter turned over to roll out of the way. With all of his might, Peter continued to dodge the strikes that were hit upon him using his shield. He, then, stopped and Miraz tripped. They both quickly got up, breathing heavily. Peter looked over Miraz's shoulder and saw Caspian and Susan riding up.
You followed Peter's gaze and turned to see Caspian and Susan, but no Lucy. You furrowed your brow and watched as Peter stopped before Miraz.
"Does his highness need a respite?" He spoke angrily.
"Five minutes?" Peter breathed out.
"Three," Miraz spat.
Peter limped back towards you and Edmund, as Caspian and Susan walked forth. You released a soft breath as you noticed Peter was in severe pain, holding his arm as though it was twisted badly.
"Lucy.." Peter breathed out, looking at Susan.
"She got through.. with a little help," Susan motioned to Caspian.
Peter looked at him and offered a soft smile, "Thanks."
"Well, you are busy," Caspian replied.
Peter looked to Susan and then to the How, seeing the archers upon the ledge. "Better get up there, just in case. I don't expect the Telmarines will keep their word," Peter stated, breathing heavily through the pain.
Susan gave a small hug to Peter and he winced softly.
"Sorry," She cringed.
"It's alright," Peter spoke through the pain.
"Be careful," She whispered and parted from her brother.
Edmund looked from the Narnians to Peter, "Keep smiling."
Peter raised his sword and forced a smile to the Narnians, receiving a large cheer from them. You smirked gently and turned to look back at Peter. Peter took a seat and winced as his arm was still bothering him.
"I think it's dislocated," He groaned.
"Allow me," You stepped towards him and gently wrapped your hand around his arm. Your eyes flickered gold as you healed his wound quickly, erasing any amount of pain he once felt there.
"How did you do that?" Peter questioned with wide eyes.
"I told you, my powers get stronger by the day," You offered a soft grin.
Peter forced a small chuckle as he stood up, feeling slightly more energy than before. Edmund offered his helmet to Peter, but he pushed it away. Miraz, also, pushed his helmet aside. They walked out to the cement and return to fighting. Peter attacked quickly, but Miraz parried. The Telmarine started hitting Peter with his shield, causing him to fall backwards. Miraz ran towards him, but Peter blocked him with his shield and tripped him. Peter knocked Miraz's sword out of his hand with every bit of force he had.
Their fight continues as Peter now possessed both his and Miraz's sword, having ripped it from his grasp. Peter failed at an attempt to puncture Miraz with the blade. Miraz knocked Peter's sword out of his hand and tried to slam his shield into Peter, but the High King of Narnia grabbed it swiftly. They twist and pull at the shield for what felt like forever. You watched with worry running through your veins.
Peter pushed himself up and harshly slammed his fist into Miraz's wounded leg, causing the man to groan deeply and fall to the ground. You smirked sadistically, your eyes flickered golden as you did so.
"Respite! Respite!" Miraz begged in a whisper.
"Now's no time for chivalry, Pete!" Edmund cried out from the sidelines, with Caspian beside him. You gently rubbed Ed's shoulder and continued watching.
Peter was hesitant as Miraz held his hands up, preparing to lose the fight. Peter lowered his arm and began to walk away, towards you and the others. After Peter's back was turned, Miraz grabbed his sword and ran towards Peter.
"Peter!" You yelled out, causing him to turn around and dodged the blade in time. Peter grabbed the handle of the sword and twisted it around to push it through Miraz's underarm, along the side of his chest. The Telmarine gasped and fell to his knees. Peter pulled the sword out and held it up, but hesitated again.
"What's the matter, boy? Too cowardly to take a life?" Miraz questioned.
"It's not mine to take," Peter whispered and turned to look at Caspian, holding out the sword to him.
Slowly, Caspian made his way towards Peter and took the sword from him as Peter made his way towards you and Edmund.
"Perhaps I was wrong. It seems you have the makings of a good Telmarine king after all," Miraz whispered and bowed his head, accepting fate. Caspian raised the sword and released an angry screams. As he lowered the sword, he stabbed the ground, letting the blade kiss the small patch of dirt in the cement.
"Not one like you. Keep your life, but I am giving the Narnians back their kingdom," Caspian spoke through his teeth. He walked away and the Narnians cheered with pride and happiness. You offered the prince a soft smile as he came towards you, Edmund and Peter.
Sopespian walked over and helped Miraz up, holding his forearm before draping it around his shoulders to prop him up.
"My king," Sopespian whispered.
"I will deal with you when this is over," Miraz whispered through his teeth.
Behind Miraz's back, Sopespian pulled out Susan's arrow. "It is over," He smiled and punctured the bow into Miraz's backside. He stepped back and watched as Miraz fell to the ground, face first.
You, along with the others, turned to see Miraz on the ground as Sopespian with anger all over his face. Your teeth clenched as the Telmarine pointed to the archers.
"Treachery! They shot him! They murdered our king! To arms!" Sopespian yelled as he ran off to the Telmarine army. You released a soft breath and cracked your knuckles as Peter turned to his army.
"Be ready!" He called out to them.
.
The Telmarines charged forth as you, Peter and Edmund waited at the cement before the How. Your fingers gently motioned to hold a golden glittering energy down at your side as your eyes flickered bright yellow. Caspian rode on horseback into the How where Narnians were waiting for him.
Peter began to slowly count to ten. Your heartbeat slowed as you watched the Telmarines charge towards the How. You noticed their large machinery began to fire stone balls to the tomb.
You released a breath and brought your hands up to hold the stones with a golden energy that wrapped around it. You harshly tossed it back towards the Telmarines, crushing a group of men with it into the ground.
"Keep at it, Y/N," Peter encouraged as you nodded slowly and motioned your hands to freeze another stone in the air before tossing it back at the Telmarines.
When Peter got to ten, the stone pillars underground collapsed and created a small sinkhole in the ground. The Telmarine soldiers fell into it as Caspian and the Narnians came out from underground on the other side, surrounding them. Peter and Edmund charged forth with the rest of the Narnians, fighting against the Telmarines.
You stood back as you used your golden magic to keep the stones from smashing into the How. You tossed several of them back, but they just kept coming one another the other.
An idea came to mind as your eyes glowed yellow. You gently bounced your fists together and spread them apart, creating a large amount of golden energy between your hands. You conjured a large force field that you built up around the How, blocking the stones from entering the tomb.
The stones that crashed into the force field, turned to dust as soon as it came into contact with it. You smirked softly and the field stayed up. You closed your eyes for a moment and opened them, revealing the bright yellow of them.
To one of the Telmarine generals, you found his gaze upon you in the field and smiled devilishly, getting into his head. You could sense his fears and deepest desires.
Run, your voice echoed in his head as he immediately ran off into the opposite direction, leaving without a fight.
.
"We can defeat them in we draw them to the river," One of the soldiers suggested to Sopespian.
"To Beruna!" He called out to his soldiers and watched as they ran towards the forest. You ran after them with Peter, Susan, Edmund and Caspian. While following them, your fingers formed balls of golden energy. You tossed them through the Telmarine soldiers, causing most of them to be knocked down.
Once you made it to the river, everyone stopped as Lucy was on the other side of the bridge. Sopespian brings the army to a halt. She drew her dagger and grinned, holding it down at her side. Aslan joined behind her. Sopespian stared more, looking to and fro, as if trying to figure out what to do in the moment.
"Charge!" Sopespian exclaimed as his army ran across the bridge, but stopped halfway when Aslan released a dangerous roar. The water beneath the bridge began to behave strangely. The water built up to form a god-like creature, pulling the bridge and watching as the soldiers fell off. Sopespian stood alone on his horseback, in the river-god's hand. He swung his sword wildly as the water crashed down onto him.
The water soon came to a gentle calm as the Telmarines funneled out of it, dropping their swords to the Narnians. You grinned as you crossed the water before Aslan with Peter, Susan, Edmund and Caspian. All of you knelt before him.
"Rise, kings and queens of Narnia," Aslan instructed as you, Peter, Susan, and Edmund rose to stand.
"All of you," He stated as Caspian was still knelt down.
"I do not think I am ready," Caspian spoke softly.
"It's for that very reason I know you are," Aslan replied as Caspian slowly rose to his feet.
.
Your lips enclosed together as you were standing upon the Narnian kingdom, looking over the water below. Your eyes were glassy as you leaned over the ledge, resting your arms against it. The wind briskly moved through the strands of your hair as you got lost in the beauty of the horizon.
"You did amazing out there today," Peter's voice caused you to turn your head back to look at him. Your lips curved into a gentle grin as you stood up straight, watching as he walked towards you.
"Thank you," You muttered quietly. "There's something about the magic here that makes it so easy to control," You admitted and lifted your hand, gently releasing a glitter of gold between your fingers. "I can feel it growing stronger, Peter," You lowered your hand, the golden energy faded.
"You wanna stay, don't you?" Peter asked as he lifted his brows gently.
Your lips formed a bigger smile, "I feel safe here, but I don't want my staying back to hinder you from leaving if that's what you want for yourself."
Peter cupped your face with his large hands. Your eyes glistened in the moonlight as he pressed his forehead against yours. The closeness felt natural as Peter lowered his head to press his warm lips against your own. You held your hands against his wrists, molding your lips with his as though they were crafted by the heavens. You could feel Peter's beating heart through his blouse as he slowly dropped his hands down from your face to your torso, sneaking them around to pull you in tighter.
Your hands moved up to his neck, wrapping your arms around his shoulders. You leaned your head back and tasted his warm lips against your own. You felt as peace and safe, more so than you ever did before.
Peter pulled back and smiled softly down at you, gently brushing his nose against yours as his forehead was resting to yours. "I'm not going anywhere without you," His voice was gentle and came out in a whisper.
Your glossy lips curved into a big smile and you wasted no time to wrap your arms around him tighter, sinking into his embrace as he returned the gesture. Your cheek was pressed into his chest as he gently leaned his chin against the top of your head.
"I love you, Peter," You whispered and squeezed yourself against him tighter. Your voice sounded muffled against his the material of his blouse.
You could hear his smile as Peter pressed a kiss to your forehead, "I love you, my beautiful golden witch."
.

sorry i’m having some narnia thoughts idk
because ok. most tepid take of the year: narnia isn’t a “world” in the way that, for example, middle-earth is a world. it’s more like an ad hoc playground with different pieces that keep getting added to it.
and like. the “character journeys,” as we’d call them now, are pretty thin by our current standards? like, the shit that the kids go thru just on-page (not even counting the implied backdrop of WW2 and post WW2 England) is pretty traumatic if u think about it for a second, but it doesn’t seem to have much of an effect on them. like, you as the reader can logically guess that it’s there, but there’s almost nothing in the text that actually demonstrates that emotionally.
and none of this is a dig, btw, but i think jack lewis just wasn’t the kind of author who, like, thought about what he was writing all that much?? which is an energy i respect, honestly, because who would throw bacchus & maenads, santa claus, and werewolves all into the same story if they Thought About It?
anyway all of that is just to say: i don’t wanna invalidate ppl who get emotional catharsis out of Wrestling With The Problem Of Susan, or What It Says About Jack Lewis. i guess i’m just saying that i don’t think he Thought About It when he decided to pull something on her that is objectively Super Fucking Traumatic.
because this is the same world in which a kid can come within an inch of being fucking murdered by a witch and can still sleep at night afterwards. this is a same world where two teenage boys can end up in a life threatening battle with no real preparation and then just kinda shake it off later. this is the same world where two teenage girls can watch a person they know get ritualistically murdered and be completely devastated by it … and then there’s never a peep about nightmares afterward. (i mean for crying out loud, lucy encounters the actual knife that killed aslan and her reaction is basically “oh look, a relic from that thing i was present for!”)
this is a world where a kid can grow up under fairly extreme emotional neglect, not to mention having to run for his life because the people who were supposed to be his guardians intended to kill him, not to mention finding out that those “guardians” are the reason he’s an orphan … and then he just kinda rolls into adulthood like it’s all well n good.
like okay. yeah susan got the worst of it, but it does kinda fit with the way lewis treats these characters generally. like what do you mean these characters would be Super Mega Affected by things that happen to them??

totally biased and unhinged wlw book recomendations list
Happy Pride! I have over 80 books in my “sapphic” goodreads list and these are my personal favs…I don’t have the energy to type actual descriptions but here are the first things that came to my mind with some of them. enjoy. or don’t. to be clear most of these are NOT romances. that’s a different genre and I feel like sometimes ppl get annoyed that the queer sci fi book had more sci fi than romance…but it’s just how it is. ** **
Literature/misc
Stone Butch Blues - Leslie Feinberg
REQUIRED READING FOR ALL
fictionalized history of a working class jewish queer person and their experiences with lesbian bars, transitioning, unions, and more!
extremely heart breaking but I learned a lot of history I didn’t realize I didn’t know* **Last Night at the Telegraph Club-Malinda Lo **
main character is a chinese-american lesbian coming of age in the 1950′s in san francisco
she forms a sort of relationship with a girl in class and they go to a lesbian bar secretly
can’t recommend enough!
Her Body and Other Parties - Carmen Maria Machado
Carmen Maria Machado is the GOAT. Her writing is just incredible and some of these stories are haunting.
single handedly made me like short stories.
both Lucy Dacus and Phoebe Bridgers listed it as one of their favs. I Know the End is based on a story from this book.
contains a Law and Order: SVU fanfic which HAUNTS me*
In The Dream House - Carmen Maria Machado
a genuinely heartbreaking book about abuse in queer relationships
semi autobiographical/looking at histories of abuse
Everyone in this room will someday be dead - Emily Austin
if you struggle with anxiety or/and depression and a fixation on death and/or illness, boy do I have the book for you.
Painfully relatable but also very funny. in a laugh at your own pain kinda way. and the main character is a lesbian in a relationship. I truly love this book and highly recommend.
I had it on my tbr for a year and when I finally started I finished it in one sitting.
No One Belongs Here More Than You - Miranda July
definitely an acquired taste but one of my favorite books of all time.
a bunch of short stories focusing on loneliness
many queer characters in the stories
The First Bad Man - Miranda July
a dowdy, depressed, anxious woman is asked to house her boss’ aggressive, sexual, and comparatively young daughter (20′s)
they start beating each other up
that leads to other activities
I cried so hard reading this book. That might just be a personal thing though.
It is gay and it is amazing but also it broke my heart. It’s also completely unhinged. can’t recommend more.
Disobedience - Naomi Alderman
I did not expect to like this as much as I did. I hated the author’s other book. But I really liked about 90% of Disobedience. Really interesting look at religion and conformity.
The Rehearsal - Eleanor Catton
another unhinged classic. A lot of my literary recs are a bit unhinged.
def not a romance.
A book about the weird relationship teachers have with their students, specifically in music and theatre. Touches on themes of consent and abuse, as well as sexuality and power dynamics.
My Education - Susan Choi
Book about a woman who falls in love with her professor’s wife but the woman won’t commit to her. that’s kinda the whole story.
9/10 would recommend but that’s just me
end made me angry ngl
The Miseducation of Cameron Post - emily m. danforth
from the movie trailers I thought this book was about cameron at a conversion camp, but it’s about way more than that. and only maybe 1/5 of the book takes place at the camp.
Liked it way more than I thought I would!
My Brilliant Friend - Elena Ferrante
sooooo this book isn’t explicitly queer but ok actually it is and I will fight anyone on this. my favorite book series ever so it must be on the list.
this book has everything: explorations of class dynamics, italian language discourse, academic rivalry, shoe drama, explorations of gender dynamics, dolls, kinda mean main character, obsession, very internal main characters
The Lying Life of Adults - Elena Ferrante
this book IS explicitly queer and literally when the fuck is the sequel coming out?
has many of the same themes as MBF. I am a whore for Elena Ferrante so had to put it on the list but I wouldn’t say either of the books are like SCREAMING explicitly wlw content. but it does inform many of the actions of the characters*
Thriller/Horror/dark
They Never Learn - Layne Fargo
when I say this book changed my life
sometimes a hot bi lit professor ruthlessly murdering rapists on campus is the catharsis one needs
the inverse of bury your gays
this book made me so happy
Plain Bad Heroines - emily m. danforth
polyamory, horror, so many footnotes, every character in this book is gay and there are so many characters
the moral of the story is polyamory? I think
The Luminous Dead - Caitlin Starling
this is a really claustrophobia-inducing book about a woman who goes into a cave lead only by this asshole woman who really doesn’t care for her well being…they sort of trauma bond? I loved it.
you will NOT catch me cave diving
Women in Gray - K.D. Rye
very dark book about a woman who’s girlfriend is an evil scientist who has created a technology that can control her and how she escapes
Sci-Fi:
One Last Stop - Casey Mcquiston
look this book isn’t for everyone and theres a lot of discourse but here’s why I loved it: time travel, public transportation, wlw, Lost references
A Memory Called Empire - Arkady Martine
an incredible book about assimilation in an empire
very funny and great worldbuilding/culture building
has really interesting themes and the sequel is even better imo
the main relationship is between two women and it is very connected to the themes of assimilation and personhood but also a cute relationship
The Space Between Worlds - Micaiah Johnson
what if the multiverse was discovered but to travel to a parallel universe you can only do it if you’re dead in that universe. otherwise you will instantly die
so who do they chose to do multiversal travel? the disenfranchised because they are more likely to be dead in other universes
book very much delves into themes of class and race.
I’m obsessed with the budding relationship between the mc and her “handler”.
misunderstanding taken to a whole new level
Gideon The Ninth - Tamsyn Muir
what if necromancers were in space and they were all kinda catholic but also queer
don’t make the mistake I did and not read it because it has a man’s name as the title. Gideon is a lesbian
Fantasy:
When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain - Nghi Vo
what if there was a sexy tiger lady
lots of important themes
The Witches Heart - Genevieve Gornichec
like Circe or the Penelopiad but for Norse Myths and the mc has a girlfriend
Black Sun - Rebecca Roanhorse
great fantasy book that is based not on eurocentric standards
lots of different queer characters
I kinda forgot the plot but I remember there was a bi mermaid and some priests and i liked it a lot
The Broken Earth Trilogy - NK Jemisin
not actually sapphic (except a very side character) but it is very queer and also one of the best fantasy books EVER so it goes on the list
what if the oppressed really were dangerous? would it be ethical to oppress them? (the answer is no)
the oppressed in this case are earth benders
very dark when you connect the story to real world atrocities
The Traitor Baru Cormorant - Seth Dickinson
the first in a so-far-great series about the horrors of colionalism/imperialism and one very fucked up girl’s journey to avenge/save her island
one of my favs and very gay but also will make you cry
the series as a whole has a LOT of great queer women in it
will make u so depressed about historical and current atrocities
She Who Became the Sun - Shelley Parker Chan
china in 1300s and a girl takes the place of her brother and claims his destiny
mc is actually more of nonbinary
great writing. highly reccomend
The Unbroken-C.L. Clark
another book about colonialism
mc is a soldier who ends up working for the ruler’s niece who is trying to stop a rebellion
lots of ethical questions about loyalty and such. lots of drama. don’t get me wrong it has a lot of queer stuff too
The Jasmine Throne - Tasha Suri
the world is based on histories of India
a magical woman and an ambitious princess form a shaky alliance

pevensies and coffee, let's go!
peter : only drinks coffee in the morning. because he is a literal freaky morning person, he has a lot of free time in the mornings until his work/school starts so he sits in a silent room with his coffee and book, likes the peaceful feeling of it. once he spilled his coffee on his book and he screamed so hard that he woke everyone up at 5 a.m, they thought he had been shot.
prefers black coffee, does not like anything else in it. i know you are shocked.
susan : only drinks coffee in necessary situations. sometimes she studies so hard that she needs energy that's when she drinks coffee, especially when she has exams and needs to stay awake the whole night. otherwise coffee only distracts her so she does not like it, there should not be anything around her when she is studying.
also prefers black coffee but sometimes she adds a little bit milk in it.
edmund : is a literal coffee addicted. can't even think without it and often pretends like his life depends on it. has a hundred type of mugs because he is too lazy to wash them. always checks if there is coffee left at home and if not, he screams dramatically and threatens to kill peter if he drinks his coffee again. his score is two hours without coffee and he's proud of his success.
can drink any type of coffee but his favourite is mix of black coffee, milk and milk foam.
lucy : does and will not understand the idea of drinking black coffee, she hates it. she does not go any near peter or susan when they drink black coffee because all she can smell is caffeine, not coffee. edmund often makes different coffees for her and she loves to try them but never finishes. because she gets easily bored, she does not have a favourite.
will definitely add anything that would make her coffee sweeter but then it gives her nausea and she hates it and starts to complain, but she is cute while doing it so it's okay.

chapter twelve — like susan and lucy
➝ with the pregnancy progressing healthily, cassie decides it's time to tell one of her most trusted people about the baby. unfortunately, she wasn't alone.
➝ word count: 4,8k
➝ warnings: none
10 WEEKS
Your womb is now about the size of an orange. You may find your clothes are tighter and your stomach may be sticking out, but this can be due to changes in your bowel activity rather than your pregnancy.
It was the perfect early summer day as Cassie drove down the M40 from Oxford to London. It seemed like there wasn’t a single cloud in the sky, which felt like a rare treat for the UK.
She’d felt a bit hesitant to go to London on one of the few weekends when Toto wouldn’t be at a race until the summer shutdown, but she felt like it was important to maintain her own schedule while she still could, before the latter stages of the pregnancy when she likely wouldn’t want to go anywhere, and before all of her time and energy would be devoted to caring for her child. The child she was having with Toto.
“I don’t want to smother him”, Cassie thought to herself, shaking her head, like the physical action of doing so would reorder her scattered thoughts. “We’re not together, not really. But, it’s like all I want to do is spend time with him”.
In an effort to distract herself from the urge to drive over to Bedwells Heath and spend the weekend with Toto, probably talking about the things they needed to buy for the baby, she’d called her sister, Helena, to see if she could pay her a visit.
Plus, she hadn’t told Helena about the baby yet, and desperately wanted to tell someone, and Helena was all too happy to have her over.
— Jack is going to be gone all weekend, he’s going to Zurich on business. It’ll just be me and Tommy, and we definitely need to catch up.
Tommy was Cassie’s four-year old nephew, Icarus, but his parents addressed him by his middle name, Thomas, and usually called him Tommy. Helena had chosen his name in line with the family’s tradition of using names from classical literature, but after the boy was born, she and Jack had a long discussion about his nickname possibly being “Icky”, which might make the poor boy’s life difficult in school.
“I’m not sure why they didn’t think of that beforehand”, Cassie remembered thinking, shortly after they’d decided on his name.
As she drove past a field full of grazing sheep, her mind drifted back to two days ago, when she and Toto met for their regular chat over coffee at the factory. In Cassie’s case, she’d begrudgingly made the switch to non-caffeinated herbal tea.
It had been almost a month since Cassie found out that she was expecting, and she and Toto were the only people that knew — aside from Cassie’s doctor and the Mercedes board chairman Ola Källenius, who Toto couldn’t resist telling during one of Ola’s visits to Brackley because Toto was too excited to contain himself.
She was fit to burst with excitement and wanted to tell everyone she saw, but she felt like she needed to wait a bit longer because she was nervous about telling anyone. She knew it was normal to wait until the end of the first trimester for most women to disclose the news, but it was all Cassie wanted to talk about and it was taking a great deal of restraint to not say anything yet.
“But if I say anything and something happens”, she thought. She felt like she would jinx it if she told someone too early.
— Are you okay? — Toto asked her, causing Cassie to snap out of her thoughts. He had been talking about his upcoming trip to Baku for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, and Cassie must have let her mind wander again. It seemed to be happening quite a bit, but her doctor told her to expect some brain fog in the first trimester.
— Hm? Oh, yes, just thinking.
— What were you thinking about? — Toto asked.
— Just about how I haven’t told anyone about, uh, the news yet. It’s almost all I can think about, but you’re the only one I can talk to about it.
— Ah, I feel the same way. It was hell at the race in Montreal last week, all of the reporters asking questions about Lewis beating Ayrton’s number of poles, but all I wanted to talk about was — he dropped his voice and leaned in a bit — The fact that I will be a father soon.
— I mean, at least you got to tell someone — Cassie teased. She’d been a little miffed when she found out that Toto had told the man who was, more or less, his boss, but she couldn’t be too upset about the gifts Ola had sent them — Who am I even going to tell? Victoria?
— No, but you could tell… Er, what about your aunt? What was her name — Toto combed his fingers nervously through his hair as he tried to remember — Uh, don’t tell me… Not Sylvia, right?
— Sybil? — Cassie said, incredulous. She laughed a little, and shook her head in disbelief — God, no. I love the woman dearly, she’s been more of a mother to me than my own mother, but the problem is that she’s an incorrigible gossip, and if she finds out, everyone in West Sussex will know, including my actual mother. But, I could tell my sister, I suppose. We’ve always been close, which I consider to be nothing short of a miracle. We were like Susan and Lucy growing up… You know, from the Chronicles of Narnia?
She noticed the way Toto’s facial expression turned confused.
— I… Actually haven’t read that book, I don’t think. I will take your word for it. You have a sister and a brother, right? — Toto asked, taking the last drink of his coffee.
— Yes, that’s right. My brother is named Jason. We are… Not close, not really. He’s had… Um, the same mindset as my father, about, well, everything. The problem is that Jason’s wife is a lovely woman, and she likes me, and his three daughters, my nieces, adore me, which I think annoys him a bit, like he’s afraid I’ll corrupt them, or something — Cassie giggled.
— Family is certainly complicated — Toto said, nodding sagely. He glanced at his watch, and then said — I have to get back to my office, I have a meeting with… Someone, but I can’t remember who. I guess I’ll find out when I get upstairs.
He shrugged, and smiled as he stood up from his chair, offering Cassie his hand to help her stand up, despite her having no difficulty doing so on her own.
— But remind me to tell you about my mother and her sister, my aunt, sometime, you will probably relate — he added, before saying goodbye and going back to his office.
Cassie watched carefully for the exit for Great West Road she needed to take, as she always seemed to miss it because of traffic around Heathrow. Sometimes she didn’t notice she’d missed her exit until she crossed the Thames, meaning she’d gone too far south.
She made it to Pimlico without incident, and admired the seemingly endless rows of grand white townhouses that lined the streets. It was a gorgeous day. The sky was bright blue, and the smogs of summer hadn’t started yet. Cassie took her time walking to her sister’s building, taking it all in. It was a charming neighborhood, and she could see why her sister and her husband decided to settle here, but at the same time, she was happy that she and Toto didn’t live in London instead. Oxford was a large enough city for her tastes, and she liked being somewhere that wasn’t constantly congested with people.
She rang her sister’s doorbell when she arrived at the correct building, and a few moments later, the smiling face of a four year old boy appeared in the glass.
— Auntie! — the boy squealed, as he pulled the wooden door open.
— Tommy! — Cassie said, kneeling down to give the boy a hug and a kiss — You’re getting so big!
A moment later, her sister appeared in the doorway.
— Cassie! — she said, pulling Cassie into a hug and giving Cassie a customary, but still fond, kiss on the cheek in greeting — So good of you to come. Come in, come in, I’ve made tea already.
Cassie took a moment to take her shoes off in the doorway, as listening as Tommy chattered away about how he had watched Lewis’ last race and how he told one of his friends at preschool about how his auntie worked with Lewis Hamilton. Cassie didn’t have the heart to tell him that she only worked with the drivers on rare occasions, as she didn’t travel to the races, but Lewis was kind enough and invested enough attention in the staff at both Brackley and Brixworth that didn’t travel to races that he’d given Cassie a few items he’d signed, specifically to give to her nephew, like a cap and a miniature replica helmet.
Cassie followed her sister into the townhouse’s drawing room, where afternoon tea was set out. Cassie was relieved to see that her sister didn’t go to the trouble of using her nice china just for her. She was using a modest, everyday set, that was a shade of gray that matched perfectly with the townhome’s modern, monochrome decor. Her sister had set out some biscuits and the standard cucumber tea sandwiches. Cassie smiled as she sat down and watched her sister pour her son some milk with a small splash of tea, and offered her some. — Milk and two sugars, still?
— Ah… Yes — Cassie said, accepting the proffered cup. She didn’t start drinking it right away, opting to take a biscuit first. As she took a bit of it, Cassie took a moment to look at her sister and her nephew, wondering what sort of features her baby would get.
Would she inherit the narrow, pointed nose that Cassie, her sister, and her nephew had gotten from Andromeda, or would she get Toto’s wider nose that crinkled when he smiled? Would she get the narrow jaw and almost pointed chin she got from her father, or Toto’s square, strong jawline? Cassie’s nephew got his father’s pale eyes, but Cassie and Toto both had dark eyes. But, Cassie thought, would they be shaped like his intense, hooded stare, or her eyes that were turned slightly upward at their corners? Would their baby inherit the warmth of his skin tone that tanned readily during the warmer months, or would she be pale and prone to freckles and sunburn like Cassie was? Would she get Cassie’s red hair? It was unlikely, Cassie had decided, since she’s not even sure what side of the family she inherited it from. Jason and Helena both had light blonde hair as children that grew out to a medium blonde, like Albert had before his hair went completely white at a relatively early age.
— So — Helena said, settling down in her chair and spreading her napkin out on her lap — What’s new with you? It’s been a while since we last talked. You must be busy with race season fully underway, but I’m sure you don’t want to talk about work on your day off. Any promising prospects lately, in the romance department? The last I heard about was the French restaurant man, what was his name again?
Cassie took a moment to think, remembering the disastrous date that started her on this odyssey to childbirth. So much had changed since then, but how could she explain it all to Helena?
— Um… I actually don’t even remember the guy’s name — Cassie said, with a small giggle — That was the last date I went on, but he was a real treat. Did I tell you that he told me he expected me to quit my job? On the first date! I do confess to making a bit of a scene in the restaurant when I left, but I don’t regret it.
Helena laughed.
— I’m sorry, Cass. I’m sure there’s someone good out there waiting for you.
— Well, it’s funny that you should mention that, because…
Cassie was interrupted by the sound of the townhouse’s doorbell ringing through to the sitting room they were in.
Helena’s brow wrinkled in confusion, as she looked at Cassie.
— Mum, who’s that? — Tommy asked, looking up at his mother.
— I don’t know, Tommy. I wasn’t expecting anyone else today. Excuse me while I go check. Tommy, stay here and tell your auntie all about your riding lesson yesterday.
While Cassie never was swept up in the family’s passion for equestrian sports, Helena took to it immediately. She developed a passion for riding Dressage, and spent most of her time and energy on it growing up. Cassie knew enough about the sport to know that Helena had a passion and a natural gift for the sport that she herself was lacking. Helena cleaned up in competitions in her youth and continued competing into her teenage years and early adulthood. She competed at events all over the world and also competed on the first team — the most prestigious one — during all three of her years at Cambridge, telling Cassie that it was nice to have some “more relaxed events to do”. Just after graduating from college, Helena was named as a reserve rider for the Great Britain dressage squad for the London Olympics.
Cassie didn’t think she’d ever seen either of her parents so proud and happy, certainly not at anything Cassie had done. Helena intended to have another go at making the Olympic team properly for the 2016 games, but she’d gotten married and had a baby two years before then, and “temporarily retired” from competition. Now, she taught high-level riding lessons at an elite stable in Wimbledon, and made frequent trips down to West Sussex to help out at their father’s barn.
Cassie only half-listened as Tommy talked about the pony he got to ride at his most recent lesson, a Palomino named Jammie Dodger, which was his favorite one of the barn’s lesson ponies, because Jammie Dodgers were his favorite biscuit. She was distracted, wondering what was taking her sister so long to return. She was growing a bit concerned.
— Stay here for a moment, Tom Tom. I’m going to see what’s keeping your mum — Cassie said as she took the napkin off of her lap and stood up. She heard snatches of hushed conversation between Helena and another woman coming from Helena’s foyer as she practically tiptoed down the hall.
— Um, I’m sorry, it’s just not a good time. I just wish you’d called first, I have…
— Well, I thought I’d surprise you. I had to be in London today for…
— I know, but…
— I just wanted to stop by and see…
She knew that other voice. She knew who had come by to visit, apparently unexpectedly, who Helena was talking to. Her blood ran cold in her stomach, making her feel nauseous. She was prone to nausea these days, but this kind of sick feeling had nothing to do with her pregnancy or the part of a tea biscuit she’d eaten, but everything to do with who was at the door. She wasn’t sure what to do. She could slink her way back into the sitting room and wait for her sister to see the uninvited guest away, stay in the hallway and continue trying to eavesdrop, or she could confront the visitor head-on, and let things happen as they may.
The choice was made for her, though, by an energetic four-year-old tearing down the hallway in a loud, thumping sprint.
— Gran! — he yelled, catching sight of the woman in the foyer.
— Tommy! — Andromeda squealed, kneeling down to give the boy a big hug. Cassie was relieved that Andromeda hadn’t seemed to notice her yet, but Tommy blew her cover — How is my little man?
— I’m good, gran! Auntie Cassie is here too! — the boy said, cheerfully.
— Oh, is she? — Andromeda said, trying to sound pleasant, despite a distinct squeak in her voice.
Cassie silently cursed the boy, but her frustration was fleeting — he wasn’t aware of the fact that Cassie and the members of her family that weren’t her sister had such a volatile relationship, especially because the last big fallout Cassie and her parents had took place long before Tommy was even born.
Cassie took a moment to steel herself before rounding the corner into the foyer, trying to make sure the expression on her face looked as neutral-to-pleasant as possible.
— Hello, mother — she said, quietly.
Andromeda stood back up straight, and Cassie tried not to stare as she looked her mother up and down. It had been years since they’d been in the same room together, but she mostly looked the same as she remembered. Her dark, wavy hair was cut into an elegant bob and swept away from her face, exactly like she’d styled it for the entirety of Cassie’s life. Her jaw was set, and her thin, carefully-plucked eyebrows were raised. There were streaks of gray emerging at her temples that made her look even more imperious than she usually did. She was wearing a pressed navy blue cotton shift dress and a light gray blazer, with a pair of slingback kitten heels to match.
She was wearing her wedding ring, and a matched set of simple platinum jewelry — a ring, necklace, and bracelet, all from Cartier, if Cassie had to guess, as that had long been Andromeda’s “everyday wear” jewelry of choice. On her thin, elegant wrist, Andromeda wore a vintage Cartier Tank watch that had belonged to Cassie’s grandmother that Andromeda had worn daily since she’d inherited it.
Her nails were manicured to perfection and painted the same shade they’d always been — Essie’s “Ballet Slipper”, which she started wearing years ago because it was an apparent favorite of Queen Elizabeth’s. Cassie balled her hands into fists in a subconscious effort to hide her fingernails, which were currently unpolished and chewed on, as she hadn’t gotten them done in a while. She’d been a nail-biter since childhood, and it was a terrible habit she’d never been able to break.
— Cassandra — Andromeda said, her voice terse — It’s… Ah, good to see you. I hope you’re doing well, with… Whatever it is you’re doing.
— Helena didn’t tell me you were coming today — Cassie said, wondering if she sounded as nervous as she felt. She shot her sister a pleading glance that she hoped Andromeda wouldn’t pick up on.
— I didn’t — Helena started, but Andromeda cut her off.
— Well, it was an unplanned visit. I had to come do some errands on Oxford Street, and I had to pick up something for your father on Savile Row, so, I thought I’d stop by on my way back to see my daughter and grandson. I didn’t realize it would be a… Problem. Speaking of Oxford, is that where you are, still? — she said, leveling her icy gaze at Cassie.
— Yes. Still in Oxford, still working for Mercedes in Northants.
— And still single, I presume? — Andromeda asked, narrowing her eyes. Cassie felt a wave of annoyance ripple across the back of her scalp in pinpricks, but now it was her turn to be cut off as she opened her mouth to respond.
— This is a lovely catch-up — Helena said, abruptly — But I’d prefer we do this somewhere other than my foyer. Cassie and I were just sitting down to tea. Care to join us in the sitting room, mum?”
Andromeda seemed a bit disarmed by the offer, but acquiesced.
— Right this way, then — Helena said, grasping her son’s hand and leading the two other women down the hallway in somewhat of an awkward procession.
Cassie sat back down in her chair and watched as her sister hurriedly set out another place setting for their mother. Helena, then, poured her mother’s tea, making it just the way Andromeda had always preferred it — no sugar, no milk.
— Thank you, my sunshine — Andromeda said to Helena — Now, I believe Cassandra was about to answer my question before we came and sat down.
— We don't have to talk about that — Helena said. Cassandra knew exactly what her younger sister was doing, because she had been doing it since they were teenagers. She was trying to be some sort of referee, a moderator, a buffer between Cassie and their mother. Cassie felt terrible about Helena likely feeling like she had to play this role, but she loved her sister for it.
— No, it’s okay, Helena. You asked as well, before mum arrived. And you’ll be pleased to know that there is someone.
— Really? — Andromeda said, raising her eyebrows — You found someone that can tolerate all of your little… Quirks? At your age, I’m surprised you hadn’t given up trying, I was expecting you to say you’d decided to follow in Sybil’s footsteps and dedicate your life to spinsterhood.
For a moment, it felt like all of the air had left the room. It would have been deadly quiet if not for Tommy noisily scraping his fork against his sandwich plate, trying to spear a piece of cucumber sandwich that Helena had cut up for him.
Cassie could feel white-hot anger rising in her chest. She intentionally clenched her teeth together in a herculean effort to keep her mouth shut and not say the things she desperately wished to say.
— Mother — Helena said, sternly.
— What? She’s in her mid-thirties, it’s not like she’ll be able to have children or anything by now, even if she does find someone who can put up with her.
Without knowing it, Andromeda had tripped the detonator on what was left of Cassie’s restraint. She felt just like she did in that French restaurant with… What was his name? Paul? Peter? There was no reason to maintain any sort of politeness, not if her mother was going to speak to her that way.
— Actually, mum, I was about to tell Helena the good news before you arrived, uninvited — she watched as Andromeda scowled — So, since you’re here, I suppose I’ll share with both of you at the same time. I am seeing someone, in fact, and just over a month ago, we found out that I’m pregnant.
The room filled with noise in an instant, as Cassie could hear the clatter of Andromeda’s teacup falling out of her hands and onto the tabletop in surprise, sending tea sloshing out of the cup and down the front of Andromeda’s dress.
Helena gasped and shrieked with joy as she bolted out of her chair to embrace her sister. Even as she hugged Helena back, she didn’t take her eyes off of Andromeda, who looked crestfallen as she tried to blot the tea off of the front of her dress with her napkin.
— I’m so happy for you — Helena said, pressing a kiss to her sister’s cheek.
— There’s a baby in your tummy? — her nephew asked — Is it a girl or a boy? I hope it’s a boy so I have someone else to play with other than Phoebe, Thalia, and Ariadne.
Cassie laughed at her nephew.
— No promises, Tom Tom, we don’t know yet.
Her sister released Cassie from her clumsy embrace and sat back down in her chair.
— I had no idea, I didn’t even know you had a boyfriend. Tell me everything, what’s his name? What does he do?
Cassie tried to think of how to explain it all. She was aware that “the CEO of my company and I have become close friends over the past few years, and entered into a co-parenting agreement with him being the sperm donor for an IVF conception that failed, so we conceived naturally after I had an emotional breakdown, and now I’m in love with him, but my feelings are not reciprocal, so I will spend the rest of my life breaking my own heart to be close to him and make him happy”, was a bit of a mouthful, as well as being difficult to explain.
— His name is To… um, Christian. He’s in finance, and we’ve known each other for a few years — Cassie said, trying to be as simple and vague as possible, while still answering at least one of her sister’s questions. She certainly wasn’t lying, until she said — He loves me, and I love him very much.
Andromeda appeared to be frozen in her seat, slack-jawed in horror as she watched Cassie stand up and pick her purse up from where it was hanging on the back of her chair.
— Now, I’m going to head back home before it gets too late. Thank you for the invitation and the tea, it was so good to see you again. Come to Oxford soon, we’ll get together.
She hugged her sister goodbye, and gave Tommy an affectionate pinch to the cheek.
— And you too, Tom Tom. Next time, I’ll bring you some of the new driver cards we have for this season.
— I’ll walk you out — Helena said.
When they got to the door, Cassie turned to her sister.
— I’m sorry about throwing that grenade and leaving, and thank you for trying to moderate today. I had a lovely time, aside from the obvious. I’ll call you later and tell you everything — she promised, giving her sister a polite kiss on the cheek.
— It’s nothing. I know how things can be with you and mum. Drive safe, and congratulations, once more. Keep me up to date on your progress, and don’t hesitate to let me know if you need anything.
When Cassie got back to her car and sat down in the drivers’ seat, she sighed deeply before turning the ignition over, the afternoon playing back in her head. She had intended to tell her sister, but certainly not like she had. She let her mind go blank as she navigated back to the M40, concentrating on trying not to miss her exits. Once she was back on the familiar highway, she felt herself starting to cry a little.
She regretted that her relationship with her mother was such that she announced her pregnancy only to shock her, as a form of petty revenge for Andromeda’s snide comments about her age and relationship status. It was not the kind of relationship a mother and daughter should have — Andromeda should have been overjoyed to hear about the fact that another grandchild was on the way, but it was nothing Cassie wasn’t used to by now.
“At least I know my child will never have a conversation like that with me”, Cassie thought. She was sure of that. She was sure of the fact that she would love her child unconditionally, no matter what her interests were or what kind of life she chose to live when she was older.
She was sad, too, about the fact that she lied about Toto to Andromeda and Helena. She loved him, there was no doubt about that, but she knew that Toto didn’t love her back.
Growing up, her parents — her father, mostly — told her that she was difficult, that she was frustrating, that it was hard to love her. “Nobody likes a know-it-all”, was one of her father’s pet phrases with her. Maybe, without realizing it, she’d internalized that, and after her disastrous relationship with Callum, when he started telling her she was too outspoken or hard-headed, and that she was “too much”, she saw it as confirmation, and didn’t try to find anyone again for a long time after that ended. As she thought about it, she realized that, maybe if Toto didn’t love her back, he’d never see the parts of her that made her too difficult to love for anyone that had tried to before.
As her thoughts turned to Toto, she stopped crying. She called him, having her car’s stereo system dial his number without a second thought, almost as if it was a reflex. She thought about hanging up as she listened to the outgoing call ringing to his number, but he picked up before she could manage.
— Hi — he said. His voice sounded warm and fond — Are you still in London?
— No, just on my way back — Cassie said, trying to not smile so much that Toto could hear it in her voice — Just on the M40 now, about forty minutes out.
— How was it? Did you tell your sister the news?
— Well, my mother showed up…
— Oh no. So, you…
— So, yes, I told her the news. Both of them, at the same time.
Toto chuckled, which made Cassie smile. He had such a nice laugh.
— I’m sure that went well.
Cassie laughed.
— It went about as well as you'd expect.
— Well, I’m just making myself some dinner, if you haven’t eaten yet, I’d be happy to make some for you, if you want to come over and tell me all about it?
A warmth spread through Cassie’s chest, pushing out all of the tightness and sadness she was feeling just moments ago. She may have a lifetime ahead of breaking her own heart to make Toto happy, but these moments — where she could feel happy, too — were well worth the pain.
— I’d love to. I’ll be there soon.

See, I don't think that the Pevensie kids were uncanny and dangerous upon returning to England so much as just like. Cool weirdos.
Lucy talks to animals sometimes. She doesn't expect responses or anything; it has the same energy as a person talking to their dog, except it's the squirrel she spotted on the quad or the racoon in the garbage. But she's super friendly in general so after the initial "what the heck" everyone shrugs it off because like, yeah, of course she does. She also went with me to a scary doctor's appointment having known me for like five minutes and gave me an incredible pep talk. She's cool like that.
Peter joins the fencing club and day one it's like he's never held a foil in his life and day two he loses to a kid half his size but then after like a month he just absolutely annihilates the instructor. But he's super humble about it and afterwards he helps everyone else out without being condescending at all. And while it's a little weird that he's just Suddenly an expert, people are like, "he's a fast learner, that's cool." He's really industrious in class too, just Peter being Peter. He probably practiced a whole bunch after hours.
Edmund gets extremely weird food cravings sometimes, like "wow, I could really go for chicken liver with raisins right about now" or "you guys know what's great? Gooseberry trifles." And his friends say, "I've never heard of that before but it sounds weird." So Edmund learns to cook and starts making all these vaguely antiquated fancy dishes with weird berries and organ meats and things and shares them around during study breaks and everyone's like "Yo! Pevensie brought food. Cool, thanks Pevensie." And he shares it with everyone, even the kids nobody likes, and it kinda brings people together.
Susan, who was always the Mom Friend, seems to have gotten a power-up because now she Everyone's mom and weirdly people actually listen to her? But she only uses those powers for good. Girl in her dorm not eating enough? Susan's here with snacks and look at that now she's eating. Those guys arguing look like they're about to throw down? Susan says "knock it off" and glares and they do. And her friends are like, "how do you do it???" and she says "You just have to act like you expect to be obeyed." It's very cool, though it can be a bit Much sometimes.
And they're all into mythology now? Like ancient Rome and King Arthur and stuff? That's kinda weird, but not off-putting; lots of kids have mythology phases. And Peter named the tree outside his dorm, but everyone kinda laughs and says "yeah okay." Edmund is adamantly anti-bullying now, it's nice. Susan and Lucy wear a lot of lion-themed jewelry and people definitely Notice, but that just means that they start getting more of it for Christmas/birthdays.
And of course whenever two or more of them are together it's like they've got a conspiracy going on. They're always fervently whispering back and forth, giggling an the million inside jokes they've got, giving each other Looks. And onlookers are mostly just like, "Man, it's cool that those Pevensie kids are all so tight; I wish I was that close with my siblings."

Whumpuary Day 1: captivity | snow | secret revealed
@whumpuary
Fandom: Narnia
CW: Hypothermia, blood
"Peter..." Susan murmured, her steady movements with her pencil ceasing. "Edmund said he was going for a quick walk - he said he'd be back well before lunch."
Peter looked up from the document he was reading. "We've had lunch. Since we started ruling here at Cair Paravel, I've never known him to miss a deadline... Especially not by this much," he mused.
Susan snapped her sketchbook closed and rose from her seat at the window. "Well, that does it. I'm going to look for him. It's freezing out there; who knows what might have happened?"
She made a beeline for the door, dumping her book and pencils on the table. "Wait, Su. I'll come as well. Lucy can stay here, and that document was getting on my nerves for about the last time I could bear it," Peter said, standing up from his chair and joining Susan to go and get their weapons and cloaks.
------
How long had he been laying there?
The cold attacked his soaked skin like an army of needles, penetrating into his inner body and draining hope from his spirit.
Immobile, on his back, Edmund felt once again the sharp bite of the wound in his side. The snow on the ground had given way to ice at just the right moment for him to lose his footing, and through the shock he had not missed the sudden stab of a stray tree root in the side of his torso.
Luckily, he did not reckon it to be a deep wound, and there were high chances of survival - provided he got help. And soon.
Feeling the sting once again, Edmund touched his hand to the injury, sending a bolt of pain rippling through his body. When he took his hand away, it was drenched in blood - yet he had only held it there for a couple of seconds, if that.
Heart beginning to race, he realised he was losing blood fast - far faster than he had expected. Chances of getting out of this were decreasing rapidly. But he had to stay calm. If his heart pumped more blood than it was already round his body, he might bleed out before half an hour had passed.
Oh, please, Aslan. Help me... Send Lucy. Please.
"Peter... Lion's mane! PETER!!!"
No... That couldn't be...
Someone fell to their knees beside him, cradling his head in her arms.
"Susan...?" Edmund choked out.
"Ed! Aslan's mane, you had us worried!" A second voice, male, joined their sister.
Edmund closed his eyes, too exhausted to make speaking worth the energy.
"Susan his lips are blue. We have to get him back to Lucy before he freezes out here," Peter said, his voice shaky with urgency.
"Can we even move him, though? Have you seen his side?"
"We have to try."
Susan gave in, hugging her arms further around Edmund and lifting him gently to a sitting position. He cringed in pain at the movement, eventually needing to be laid down again.
"Peter we can't. He can't be moved. One of us will have to go back for Lucy," Susan pleaded.
Peter's gaze darkened with anxiety as he looked at his wounded brother.
"If it's of any help to your gracious majesties, I would be honoured to be of service," a shrill voice peeped from the branches overhead.
Susan smiled in relief at the bird. "Yes, please. Send Lucy to us with her cordial, quickly. Thank you so much."
-----
It wasn't long before the fourth sibling could be heard crashing through the trees in her haste to get to her brother. One, two drops of her special ointment were poured into Edmund's lips, and then they waited.
"Susan... The blood's stopped!" Peter remarked joyfully.
Edmund sat up, of his own accord, and Lucy couldn't help but notice his lips had gone from blue to a healthy red in no time at all. She embraced her brother gleefully, soon getting crushed as the two older siblings joined in.
"Thank you, Aslan," Edmund whispered, inaudibly to those around him. But deep down in his heart, he knew the great Lion had heard his prayers.

Taskmaster series 16
Honestly, I really enjoyed this series. I feel like it was back to the normality of the show I loved after not overly enjoying S15.
I'm so glad that they managed to get Julian and Sue on this show, they were such a delight to watch, I love both of their energys so much. Julian was such a vibe, he cared so little about the whole thing and always going for Alex. I did always think that Lucy put on a bit of a 'ditzy' act, but nope, she is actually like that, and it made her such a joyous contestant. Sam and Susan were completely new to me, and they were such a nice surprised. They were both chaos for different reasons. I think if they were all spread out over different series, they would all be the stand out fan favourites. And can we appreciate Sam wearing grey all series, then dressing like that in the final!
Top 3 tasks
Do the most surprising family friendly thing with this donut
Lucy dicustingly chomping on the donut with just har mouth, and regurgitating it and feeding it to Alex was pretty grim. It's probably not the grossest thing he's eaten either. Sue's pathetic attempts at firing the donut at Alex from the 'donut of doom' bin gave me flashbacks to Nish and him trying to kick a ball into a hoop. But she was so happy when it finally hit him. Susan putting all of that in her mouth was so gross. How she managed to do it, I have no idea, but at least she made it out of the room before (probably) expelling it all out and more. It was so in character of Julian to spit it in Alexs face. "good luck to you and your family"
Make the most cool and scary gang with the googly eyes
How Lucky though that a gang ment one person with a skatwboard and a saxophone, I have no idea, but it was one hell of a surprise. Julian was mildly adorable, in a half-hearted attempt of a way, with his 'tea-pot ladz'. Sam's was a fine piece of film, how he comes up with his ideas I have no idea. I always love it when Alex has to act in some form during the tasks, it's so awkward. And let's not forget Satan the gnome, Allison the mop, Helmet, one-eyed Tim, and Ian the leafblower. Susan showing again how weird and creative her mind is
Do whatever you like with these switches for five minutes. You will then do a task in the lab for five minutes.
I thought this task was the right amount of evil that caused the contestants to overthink things. It would psych anyone out, sat in front of buttons/switches with no idea what they do and how they'll affect you. And it also gave us a brilliant quote from Lucy - "I don't like uv light. My mum thinks it's because I was in an incubator". And the revelation that she doesn't like leaves, hotdogs, or folk music. I'm in agreement with Sue, I would also get really freaked out if a creepy voice repeated my name (with less farting though). Of course Sam was the one who gave himself time to muck about, it was so in character. Julian campness really came out (even more) with his "oh I say" when he started vibrating.
Contestants
Julian
Lucy
Sue
Susan
Sam
(This series was so hard to rank, other than 1st and 5th)

tcon kids and instruments: what i think they would play / which instrument represents their personality!
a note: i've had 10+ years of classical music training for piano and 6+ years of performing in several ensembles. most of the descriptions given are based off my experiences with hearing these instruments in performance settings and interacting with the people who play them.
peter pevensie
Tumblr media
snare drum. this instrument is the backbone of pretty much any orchestral/marching band ensemble; it sets the rhythm and pacing for all pieces. ask any player how they keep track of their part and they'll tell you they pay attention to the snare drum. in that way, the snare drum is a leader. but! never forget that the conductor is the one who calls the shots. you'll find that if the snare drum player decides to not listen to the conductor, they can pretty much alter the course of the song, and often for worse. in summary: peter is the snare drummer who takes charge, and aslan is his conductor.
susan pevensie
Tumblr media
harp or lyre. i can imagine that in cair paravel, the soft, yet calculated plucking of strings would reverberate through the halls. it should be noted that susan isn't much of a performer like edmund or jill; rather, she considers this activity of hers as a pastime she dabbles in once in a while. it's peaceful and grounding to her. she does, however, have a piece ready in the event she is asked to present something, such as during a ball. that's when everyone sees how she lives up to her title, gently playing her instrument and filling the air with graceful and serene tones.
edmund pevensie
Tumblr media
guitar or lute. edmund is a passionate performer, whether it's devising an act in the courtroom to turn the tides in his favor or plucking out a folk tune in the streets. narnians claim there's magic channeling through his fingertips as he performs, and the grave, quiet man they thought him to be, disappears into the shadows of the forest. the creatures dance, the trees hum, and the colors turn a little more vivid as he twists his tuning pegs. when he picks up the instrument on earth, his parents are convinced he must have been a guitarist in his past life. in a way, it's true.
lucy pevensie
Tumblr media
flute. a flute's timbre is airy, light and likely to sport many playful tunes. this instrument is often at the forefront when it comes to melodies played in an ensemble, like a guiding beacon for the rest of the players to follow. in other words, i find it best representative of lucy and her character. not to mention, i can definitely picture mr. tumnus teaching her how to play a version of the flute, like his own which resembles a combination of the aulos/duduk. she carries it with her to the battlefield, lifting up the spirits of her people, and renewing them with energy that is rumored to be enchanted.
eustace scrubb
Tumblr media
oboe. this instrument can stick out like a sore thumb in an arrangement. at times it will sound shrill, nasally, and there are many times where the conductor will ask you to back down with the dynamics. it's no wonder why it reminds me of a certain, snarky boy. however, after practicing and polishing, an oboe and its solo can be the defining aspect of a musical piece. eustace never cared for the instrument, only picking it up because there was nothing else left, and it showed. however, after a change of heart, the ensemble takes a turn for the better and he throws on the performance of a lifetime.
jill pole
Tumblr media
trumpet. many trumpet players i know possess strong and vibrant personalities. they tend to have a mind of their own, which sometimes clash with the conductor's feedback. what jill finds enticing about the trumpet is that the instrument itself is quite tough to control sound wise. she likes a good challenge. i can imagine her being a prominent jazz player, always confident under the spotlight and improvising for her solos. to the assuming eye, she looks like a woodwind player, mellow and sweet. but come to her performances and she will knock your socks off with clear and striking brass tones.
caspian
Tumblr media
piano. piano players are versatile in that they can take command, move people with their pieces, and have competitors at the edge of their seats or remain in the background of an ensemble, always there, but never overpowering. additionally, many ensemble pieces start off with a piano solo before having other instruments join in. these two facts mirrors caspian's lonely venture into the forest before running into the narnians and the uncertainty of his authority around peter. however, he gains confidence with time, just like a pianist who finally gets used to the weight of the keys in a new piano.

The Night Witch Chapter 33 || FFN  • AO3
"The Calormens, the Archenlanders, the Telmarines…they all have reasons for not wanting us to have come back," Lucy said. She walked over to the patch of grass next to the fence Reepicheep stood upon, smiled when she heard the sounds of the horses in the nearby stable neighing. "The Calormens have always done whatever they wanted…have always been a ruthless sort and have been difficult to take down." Her eyebrows rose in memories of her older life where she and Susan had done a lot of negotiating to keep the Calormens from invading. "Those decisions were made from all of us. But there are supposed to be decisions made from me."
Lucy lowered her head, closed her eyes. Tried her best to feel the magic that was in Narnia, the magic that surrounded her. Not the same kind of magic that Jadis worked with, but similar to Aslan. Where he was able to allow the Water God to regain their lifeforce, the trees to awaken and attack Miraz's group. There was a reason she was able to see and speak to Aslan while the others couldn't. Something she worked hard on as the days went by.
She never told her siblings, but when back in England, she worked hard to see if she could contact Aslan. Did everything she could to try and find Aslan in their world. She spent many times by herself, eyes closed, working to connect in with the energies and feelings of the creatures and people around her. And she became good at it.
There were days where she had seen animals that would run by her and sit and stare at her, where she would smile and it was like they smiled back before running away. Times where she would send a short prayer, a short message out to the universe to help her with something, and she'd get a sign in response. Unlike speaking about Narnia, the first time, Lucy knew not to bring it up with her siblings. It was sacred, special for her. Special to her.
Had her siblings noticed she had become quieter, more drawn to herself, they didn't bring much notice to it. They had their own things they were dealing with that they needed to handle on their own. They started to give up on seeing Narnia again, Lucy hadn't. Because Narnia—Aslan—had been in contact with her in England.
She could feel the magic that swept through Narnia course through her veins. The tingling that started from the top of her head down to her feet. It warmed her, made her feel even more connected to the world than ever before.
She sucked in a sharp breath when the feeling was suddenly gone. As if it hit
"Something's coming," She said.
"My Dear Friend, I'm trying not to speak out of turn when I say…something is always coming in Narnia," Trumpkin grumbled.
"No." Lucy shook her head. "I felt some magic. Some other magic. The kind of magic that the White Witch had." Her eyes narrowed. "Something evil is nearby."

family dinners
the pevensies as monarchs have family dinners
edmund catches himself looking forward to them more often that he would admit it. talks the least.
lucy talks non-stop and tells everyone every single detail of her day. that singing bird on her balcony, the beautiful flowers she found... also is the one to keep the conversation from dying and makes the others take turns so they all have to say something
susan tries to stop any argument (but sometimes also is the one provoking them). she and edmund would talk about books they liked or things they learned about narnia through history or biology books. she brings up the topic of suitors only to tell the rest how she out-smarted them at something or how incompetent/boring/annoying they were
peter is the one organizing them (along with Lucy), but has skipped it a few times because of work (not without lucy's reprimand the next day). sometimes he's not home because he's out at war. enjoys hearing his siblings. doesn't talk too much -- he's busy eating as much as he can because he missed home or just spent so much energy in training and working
