the absolutely enormous expanse of loneliness aziraphale and crowley go through during the early years on earth. they don't see one another at all from 3004 to 2500 bc. 500 years. and very possibly the whole thousand years before that.

aziraphale is still trying to fit in with heaven, even knowing, as he must already, that he doesn't quite belong. crowley has long since given up on associating in any meaningful way with other demons.

(there are humans, of course, and the fascination of their creativity and changes, but humans live for such short periods of time. always they die, and aziraphale and crowley continue on.)

this is 1500 years since they started their tenure on earth. 1500 years of wandering around (with not even that many humans to distract them) with aziraphale desperately trying to be what he's supposed to be, despite any inclinations to the contrary. meanwhile crowley is fully aware that he's alone, isolated from all others by curiosity and principles he refuses to compromise on, no matter that things could be easier if he did.

and how lonely must 1500 years be, with no friends or true peers, with no one who understands you at even the most superficial level. how lonely to try and try to squeeze into a box that was never designed to fit. just year after year after year, a millennia of no one who can be trusted, no one to talk to freely, no one they can relax with.

and then, finally, after so very many years alone, they find their way to each other.

sonic vs rouge: the parallels. immaculate. I’ve talked about it before but they are literally the same character, except for their selfishness/selflessness.

sonic vs big: you would think they’re very opposite characters but they’re honestly not. deep respect for nature and friends. endless loyalty. just looking for a good time. kind of a loner but still a devoted friend. sometimes enjoys taking things slow.

sonic vs vector: similar characters. underestimated frequently in terms of intelligence. work in unconventional ways. stubborn. willing to take charge when needed but overall pretty laid back. has a bit of a tempter.

knuckles vs omega: the contrast between accepting one’s duty and forging their own mission. developing bonds with people who were once enemies. intrigued by more violent methods of problem solving but are underestimated in terms of intelligence. sometimes quite literal

knuckles vs amy: intensely passionate, short tempered, and very willing to solve problems with fists. another example of duty-bound knuckles vs another free spirit.

knuckles vs espio: both bound by duty and have a deep respect for those who become friends. immensely loyal. often under appreciated. a bit of impulsivity vs a calm disposition.

tails vs shadow: essentially the same character. if tails lost his older blue sibling he wouldn’t have been much different from shadow. bad pasts they want to put behind them. willing to explore a new identity.

tails vs cream/charmy: children who got to have a relatively normal childhood vs someone who had to grow up too fast. often heavily underestimated but have more power/smarts than you thought.

the thing is that leo’s honestly not that great of a ninja (he’s TRYING) but he’s a damn good leader whereas mikey is an insanely talented ninja but a really bad leader. leo understands how to optimize other peoples strengths in combat and how to think steps ahead whereas mikey only understands his own strengths and works more on instinct. mikey can take care of himself in a fight he just can’t lead one. leo doesn’t have a great track record in fights but he could secure the win.
