“So this guy is using birds?” Derek asked in disbelief. You glanced up as Emily and Spencer hurried into the room.

“Sorry, we’re late.” Emily said as she and Spencer took a seat. She glanced at you and smiled. You smiled to yourself and focused on the file. “What’d we miss?”

“The UNSUB is using birds to… remove body parts?” Derek said and winced as if he was grossed out. Emily teased him a little for it before turning her attention to the folder in front of her.

“Any bird facts from the wonder twins?” Emily asked. She looked up at you and you set down the picture you’d been inspecting.

“There are some pigeons that can be trained to differentiate between the paintings of Pablo Picasso and Claude Monet.” You muttered. The room went quiet until Reid hummed as if he understood.

“It could be a similar kind of bird and there are a lot of pigeon fanciers in the area. Could be a good lead.” Reid muttered.

“Pigeon fanciers?” JJ said and Reid went on to explain what they were and what they did while Emily glanced your way and smiled at you. The group finished and you all headed out to the plane where plans were set out.

“Why don’t I go with Reid? We could check out these pigeon fanciers.” She offered. Reid gave her a quizzical look but said nothing when Hotch agreed.

As soon as Emily started the SUV Reid glanced over at her. “You like my sister.”

“Of course I do. I like everyone on the team.” She answered. Reid said nothing but shot her a look and she sighed. Nodding as she opened up.

“Ok fine. I do. So what.” She was quick with her response and Reid could tell that she didn’t want it pressed.

“I knew there was a reason you were spending more time with me than usual. You know the team has been trying to get the two of you to go out for weeks.” He said casually as he looked over the printed-out folder in his hands.

“They have?” She asked in surprise.

“Yes. They think I haven’t noticed but I’m very good at profiling. Especially my sister. She’s who I practised profiling when I was in the academy.” Reid pointed out casually. Emily hummed as if that made a lot of sense and thought about all the times that you and Emily had been pushed together by the team. 

“I can’t believe I missed that.” She muttered and Reid laughed.

“(Y/N) did too. I’ve been waiting to see how long it takes her to notice that you’re only spending time with me because you want to get to know us both better. I’m obviously the better profiler.” Reid grinned at her and she shrugged.

“I don’t know. Love and romance can overwhelm the senses. I don’t think you can use it as a measure of profiling skills.” Emily said and Reid shrugged as if he hadn’t thought of that.

“Are you going to ask (Y/N) out? They like that restaurant. The one on the corner Garcia goes with (Y/N) all the time.” Reid said quickly. He knew you liked her quite a bit and he might as well help things along.

“Sure. yeah. What's the worst that could happen?” Emily said nervously. Reid went quiet and before he could say anything she added. “I don’t need a statistic, Reid.”

1. Who or what got you into F1?

but! i will say! what greg james said about f1 resonated with me because i have never ever really cared about physics or engineering in any deep or substantial way. and now, i am avidly reading people like supermak's incredible posts talking about downforce or apexes or deltas and car configs, looking at the charts and the data, and i just think that is a really fun place to be.

f1blr and f1 fandom so far has been a nice confirmation that multiple things can be true - yes we want to make the vroom vroom boys kiss, but we also care deeply about the ethics of the sport, the growth, about driver + team stories, driver pipelines and equity and race excitement and engineering. i think it's really cool these things can coexist.

the sport never should be one thing to one group of people, you know? (wow that ended up longer than i thought.)

2. Who was the very first F1 driver you supported? Do you support them now? Have your opinions on them differed or stayed the same since then?

charles, and still charles lmao. unfortunately.

i am an oscar piastri enthusiast also. i think there's a bit of recency bias at work here but he's come swimming like a fledgling shark into the shallows with his deadpan personality and i'm just very intrigued by His Whole Thing.

i want good things for yuki! and lewis! my GOAT!! give the man his 8th :( (it probably isn't happening but lets' not manifest that.......)

TL;DR it's been a joy getting to "know" the grid (or at least as much of their public persona will tell us) and getting into the lore. *shaky hands* the LORE!

also nobody asked, but, schumacher was an omnipresent name when i was growing up - which might give away my age - but he always felt like an old school driver. in the sense of his mythos, his mystery, his dominance of the track. that era of f1 is over and the sport only moves on and evolves, but in the same way his presence felt a lot more removed and unrelatable to me, and far away. the speed of technology now and broadcasting and social content makes f1 feel more fun and accessible. it feels a lot nicer to find fandom spaces like f1blr where there are different audiences (female, queer, a variety of ages and backgrounds etc) yelling about the same things.

it's just a different time, not a value judgment. but i am enjoying it.

see above, but i'm 100% here for lestappen having a track battle next year only for oscar to pip them to the podium in one of the races lmao. i think it'd be amazing.

i got my sister into f1 at around the same time but she's not indicated any preference on drivers yet tbh. she's a casual fan. must be nice being normal.

haven't seen enough of them to say, 'cus i only started following like two months ago as the season was winding down. i looooved Vegas '23 though and the legendary charles overtake. he's just so fucking smart and cunning when he's given the conditions and the car to be. watching Abu Dhabi '21 on replay was also a TRIP.

7. Do you have a favourite circuit? Can be from the past or from the current calendar.

i'm still learning them. but i'm mildly curious about the old tracks like nürburgring - it was from a totally different era of the sport and it'd be nice to rebalance the long tracks with the current spectacle of street races even though that doesn't seem to be where the sport's moving towards.

8. Have you ever been to an F1 race in real life? Feel free to tell us your experience going to one if you like.

i actually live in a place with a track... i had a free ticket for general access once many years ago but that was pre-f1 hyperfixation, and at that point i didn't understand the appeal at all. idk.

i feel like f1 is actually a better experience for me to watch on tv as a fan.... probably blasphemy i know.

9. Have you ever met an F1 driver in real life?

no and idk that i would because i've seen celebrities in person in the past and it's usually so quick and transactional because they're surrounded by hordes of handlers and/or they're usually running somewhere even if it's a fan-focused interaction.

THAT SAID! i would love to attend a talk by Lewis or just generally hear what he has to say, because what he's done is so beyond f1 at this point and he always shows up in terms of advocacy and speaking up, in recent years, where it really matters. he's a fascinating figure, sometimes contradictory, sometimes controversial, but i definitely would love to hear what he has to say.

honestly I can boil my two main issues with the car|andoisreal brigade to three points:

misogyny and publicly targeted hate toward their real life girlfriends who they actually do have sex with/have romantic feelings for and who they openly choose to be around at the exclusion of their sports bromance friend

this particular brand of car|ando revolving entirely around Lando being conveniently stripped of a personality apart from giggling so he can be handy insert for women desperate to have Carlos for themselves

bringing 1D shipping into yet another new fandom and basically rinse and repeat with Carlos and Lando's names inserted in the [namexname] box

I know that a lot of us car|ando folks are nothing to do w this garbage and the good thing is that usually these people take themselves out either by pissing off the men involved in the ship or getting bored waiting for their fake ship to "become canon" finding a new rpf ship to latch onto.

oh and I do know that the person who made the office meme about Lando saying the podium thing intended it solely as a joke but it found the Other Side real fast and they genuinely put it in their dossiers of car|ando vs |andoscar. which I don't get for many reasons but also if they think Carlos and Lando are in a secret gay relationship and Lando doesn't even like Oscar then why the need to keep going seeee seeeeee he loves Carlos not Oscarrrrr aslfhsalfhslahf jesus christ why am I even trying to rationalize this

thing is I don't want any more of this on my blog or in our part of fandom so I'm going to limit how much of any asks I'll answer about it. I don't at all mind if people need to vent but jsyk I might not always post it publicly.

I'd recommend blocking and not engaging with it to everyone else too. I might curb how much car|ando is on my blog for a while just because it's so embarrassing to be associated with the grown ass women stalking Rebecca/Carlos content and flooding it with car|ando comments.

thanks, anon. i've been thinking about this incident in the context of the end-of-the-year post i've been writing with some reflection about why hockey prospects have been such a good fandom niche for me, and in order to keep that post positive i'm gonna use this one to reflect a bit about one of the only negative or challenging aspects of focusing on that niche.

my initial reaction to that ask was that the anon was someone who's young and hasn't had an adequate opportunity to pick up on fandom norms, and that they sort of thought it would be funny or cool to share my blog in that way. in hindsight i can see that the wording could also be interpreted as intentionally threatening or malicious, but i think i want to continue to give that person the benefit of the doubt. the reason i want to do that is that so much of prospect fandom is young, and that means that doing rpf in this space means i have to navigate how to share it with people who are fans of these players in very different ways than i am.

in the tags for most of the umich and team usa boys i'm interested in, a lot of material is generated by people who view hockey players as individuals that they want to, or could, have a romantic or sexual relationship with. they're very much fans of the flesh and blood Real People, and i think maybe they don't see a line between their ideas about these people and the individuals themselves, because their ideas are about someone who they could -- if only the right meet-cute happened -- know for real.

whereas i am a fan not so much of any real human boys, but of a bunch of imaginary things my pals and i have made up using said boys' instagram posts and postgame interviews as a jumping off point. once you leave that jumping off point, none of the shit i make up is connected in any way to Real People. i absolutely do not ever want to encounter a flesh and blood hockey player anywhere other than a rink, and on the rare occasions when that's happened by accident i have tucked my head down and extricated myself from the situation as quickly as possible.

i think maybe for someone who doesn't have their own thoughts about hockey players separated in that way, it's not necessarily intuitive to recognize that there's a difference between their version of fandom and transformative fandom. that means that i get my share of tiresome anons, but it also means that those (presumably young) fans may not have ever been part of a transformative fandom and don't understand that sharing transformative material with the real people it's sourced from is hugely different than sharing other kinds of fan content with them.

i have mostly navigated the prevalence of this other type of fan with kind of a live and let live mentality. they can fan their way, i'll fan mine. i can ignore all the self-insert fic in the tag, and import content into the ecosystem on my own when their thirsty captions are not to my taste. they can ignore all my gay shit and block me if they don't want to see shipping. but this incident has made me wonder if i ought to be more deliberate about explaining and reinforcing the fourth wall. if people don't understand that fandom norm, do i have an obligation to educate? do i need to start putting those disclaimers on fic? ugh, idk.

Nokiami : (spoilers for the game) all the fan stuff ive seen for the game is painfully straight unless its focusing on the two ships where one character is canonically gay n in love with the other (protag of the sequel game with his gay bestie i forgot the name of n yuuko/fei) n ami is usually just drawn on her own BUT theres a lot of canon subtext between nokia n ami mostly as a result of not much actually changing based on if u play as a boy or a girl regardless nokia to some extent likes ami she flirts with her talks about their relationship as if theyre already dating theres a scene that parallels a m/f couple in the game that plays exactly the same between ami n nokia with two other characters saying something along the lines of ah young love during a mandatory side quest ami gets offered an implied sex doll that looks exactly like nokia (weird story there the quest ends with it being heavily implied that the people that take the dolls end up having their organs harvested while their minds are stuck in a digital space called eden unaware that theyre not in the real world) n she has to think about it before declining the offer nokia's character arc is working to become a strong leader n reliable friend cause she wants to stand next to ami instead of relying on her theyre childhood friends but forgot about it ok i need to explain a bit more of the story so like as kids ami n nokia along with three other characters met beta testing for eden n one of them ended up getting eden syndrome to make sure theyre all able to leave safely (theres a thing called eaters that if u get eaten by put u in a coma cause theyre storing the contents of ur brain in them) n a guy who wants to use the eaters to get to the next stage of evolution removes their memories of the incident so years later as teenagers ami nokia n arata (one of the childhood friends important to the story but not to the ship) become friends again n reunite on eden where ami ends up getting eden syndrome but in a funky way cause she was logging out as she got eaten so she has a cyber body that over the course of the game deteriorates n at the end of the game ami basically dies right as everything is being fixed all the victims of eden syndrome are no longer comatose but ami is cause yknow kind of deteriorated too much n it happened right in front of nokia's eyes as she reached out for her hand so they could go home together n nokia cries for the only time in the game cause of that but ive genuinely never seen any fan stuff of them interacting so despite them being teased romantically n built up as being really important to eachother theres nothing not even like nokia with takumi (boy protagonist) im submitting it specifically as nokia/ami just cause i like wlw ships more if u want to do it neutrally protag's surname regardless of gender is aiba sorry if this is incoherent its been like 6 months since ive played the game

my bad. I was trying to reply to you in that post about the BBCDoctor Who twitter channel hiding gay fans' replies to its tweets, in which I tried to distill down a whole LOT of recent discussions into 3-4 lines of reply. The trouble is, I was hitting maximum compression density trying to pack a multifaceted can of worms into a small space, and I didn't *really* want to rehash all of it, nor did I think you wanted said worms. So I deleted my replies and just left someone else to answer your immediate question about what went down with Redacted.

The REALLY brief version of what I was trying to say is that I keep seeing fans celebrating how RTD is going to bring representation to Doctor Who, and we certainly know what RTD is like. But some of us had representation on the show for the last several seasons— not just multiple queer, POC, and/or women main characters for the first time, but stories set outside England and even Europe. We're still missing those characters, so the "RTD will bring representation back to the show!" attitude feels dismissive.

Separately, there's been a string of incidents connected with the Doctor Who franchise which seem to be at odds with RTD's own track record, from the mostly-women and/or gay characters Doctor Who Redacted being taken away from its trans woman creator and put under the direction of James Goss, to the problem singled out in that post, the Doctor Who Twitter channel actively hiding gay fans' tweets so they don't appear when viewing its tweets they're replying to. The latter was being called homophobic, not RTD! But all of this started with the changeover from Chibnall's team to RTD's. So we're not sure what to make of it, but it's making us wary.

i posted her recently in the context of her being an au of lawrie where she was made for a friends roleplay campaign and world (westal bay), so shes tweaked from the lawrie formula just slightly but keeps the core concepts- shes a robot, but unlike lawrie who was commissioned to be a son, she was created by a lonely little freak who wanted a robot girlfriend (unfortunately for him, she is male. she/her mlm winning 24/7. so now hes gay.), however the technology to make a sapient person from scrap metal got the attention of the jeff bezos of westal bay and sweetheart was taken from him and instead placed in the hands of a couple of terrible lawyers with her memory wiped. shes told now that shes human and their son despite her rampant memory loss, and even with all the holes in her brain all she can remember is vague impressions of nathan her creator- of course not knowing shes a robot, she assumes these are not memories but premonitions and that hes her soulmate and she goes A Little bit crazy as her parents neglect her and she is allowed to sink fully into delusions and fantasies about her beloved boyfriend

art by apotheoseity, dm of westal bay and writer of nathan. so swart (i call her swart mostly sorry) starts off the campaign as goofy, ditzy, real stupid. shes rich, she knows capitalism is a scam but cant do much to change it though she wants to, shes overly kind and naive and just helpless, she desperately desperately DESPERATELY wishes to assist people because she is so delusional she believes shes some sort of divine beast sent upon the earth to save everyone, because she does not identify with humans. she along w the other player characters are hired to investigate various strange and upsetting happenings around their city (westal bay) WHERE she nearly immediately gets dragged into a cult. because of course shes prone to religions indoctrination, shes very very lonely and she thinks everything in her brain is so much realer than the depressing and cruel reality around her and they tell her SHE!! can be their savior. she is manipulated into drinking the blood of a desecrated and juiced god, which is a procedure that SHOULD kill her horribly, overabundance of magic tends to do that. but. because shes a robot, she can handle it well and gains magic powers :) this further influences her terrible delusions and everything quickly goes downhill- the rest of the team are disgusted by the cult and swarts support of it, swart doesnt have it in her to refuse the cult now because shes already drank the koolaid as it were, she NEEDS to help people as they learn that the city is so much more corrupt than they thought- major labs working with the cults and experiments to try and create new gods are abundant. DURING one of these excursions into a lab shes told straight up that she is a robot, not a person, and in fact just a prototype as the jeff bezos is forcing (unknown to her) her boyfriend to make more of her as companions like theyre fucking furbies, so she just goes full fucking tilt. sooo much anguish around her and everything she tries to investigate or helps with just gets worse, her teammates dont really like her, at most they feel bad for her, and eventually their investigation leads her back to nathan finally where thats like. thats where its cemented that she is Fully fucked up bc she and nathan will do aaaanything for each other, they love each other desperately. even kill :) final conflict of the campaign as all the terrors have been uncovered is that nathan steps up to the plate on fixing it, AT SWARTS SUGGESTIONS, by killing everyone in their way so that he can uplift swart as god and remake society !! makes a big murder robot, murders mr jeff bezos, tries to murder the prime minister but the team finally bands together to stop him as his robot begins malfunctioning and trying to suck his soul up- everyone has to drag swart around and make emotional calls to her to stop trying to help nathan as he fully fucks people up it was so. so good.

im really really obsessed with her, i could go on and on and on about her characterization and every little interaction she was in but ofc theres little context bc, private rp haha. but god... she asked nathan once why he made her and he just said, i dont know, i wanted to see if i could. imagine that! her lifes so much of being dragged around, set up on a pedestal and ascribed traits- this is a cool robot i could make! this is a cool boyfriend who has to love me because im all he knows! this is my son who will look and act exactly like us! this is our new savior! this is the prototype for our new project! shes subject to so much scrutiny and she cant even do anything, its everyone around her deciding what she should be and what she should do, she'll listen to any suggestion because she feels so hopeless- its why she keeps doing evil shit, she literally just wants to help people and being told maiming others does so shes like yeah that might be true, i cant do literally anything else! shes so peppy and sweet and optimistic, she knows everyone deserves better but by the end shes so tired and broken up she just wants to kill people so that the obstacles in the road from her big happy ending get out of the way- she thinks life is like a fairy tale and there ought to be one big bad guy to be killed in a glorious just manner. in the end though, everythings ok. nathan gets therapy or something and her parents are arrested so she owns their big stupid mansion, and she invites all of her new friends to live with her, so shes probably learning how to act like a human right about now XD. heres some more of my favorite art of her!

I would love to hear your LCA headcanons!

Hi! I wasn't ignoring this ask I'm so sorry I 10000 percent just plain forgot it was in here (I think I opened it first on my phone while out and about and said "Oh fun!! I will answer this at home!" And that was when I forgot.)

I had a couple posts but I can't find them because I don't know what tagging is. Here are some things I do remember. Under a readmore because I wrote too much, spaced them all out with bullet marks:

-Freya is a lesbian, but not currently seeing anyone. She works A LOT. And spends a lot more time at the Station than she really needs to (though she's not Duke levels of bad). She's very dedicated to and loves her job, but it's a very stressful position. It's tiring a lot but she wouldn't give it up for the world.

-Clemmons is bi and lives with his partner. Like most everyone at the station, he works a 24 on, 48* off shift. He spends a lot of time exploring the city on off time. He's great with directions, and people person who usually remembers little details about friends and family they may have mentioned once in passing. This (coupled with his tendency to excel when given a task he's good at) made him the perfect candidate to tackle Freya's unique form of firefighting (it’s part of the reason she chose him for her team, and why she started sending him to get her wild list of firefighting supplies). While sort of bad at managing his own anxiety, he's really good at helping others manage theirs. He likes video games a lot too!

-Bob is questioning his gender and sexuality. He didn't know there were so many labels and now he's very confused. He doesn't have to figure it out right away. While he works the 24/48 schedule as well, he's most likely to give extra hours where necessary. Spends a chunk of his off days at the gym. Loves dogs and would like a dog of his own but with that schedule he knows it wouldn't be fare to the dog even with a sitter.

-Carol is a single mom. Her ex doesn't stay in touch and it's just fine for them really. As of last Christmas their family has grown by 2 (Guinea Pigs). Both Carol and Maddie really consider Mayor Fleck like family to them. Fleck isn't good with words on that sort of thing but he is very fond of them, yes. Fleck is a practical man, and this extends to gifts. The Christmas following the events of 'Small Carol' he gave Maddie her own 'special mayor pen' with her name on it. She loves it and keeps it safe in the box it came in when she's not using it.

-Frankie had a gallery show for his art once! He invited Duke, mostly so he could see his first collaboration piece, a self portrait with tire tracks across it. (Frankie Lupelli and Duke DeTain, Self Portrait with Tire Tracks, Mixed Media Acrylics on Canvas with LEGO Brand Tire)

-Big Betty is very close with her family. She has two young nieces (9 and 6) who she often babysits. Sometimes Hank will come hang out with her and her nieces too. They let the girls paint their nails and do their makeup and hair. The pair also actually go get their nails done together sometimes. Frankie has joined them on occasion. Vinnie came once but he complained.

-Hacksaw is gender-neutral and has no preference of pronouns.

-Wheelie is a gay trans man (and would really like to be called Wheelie like for the love of god why aren't we using this man's name, that's not a headcanon I'm just annoyed).

-Billy's cat (from Billy the Bug, we never see this cat again but Anne says he can keep it I have to assume this thing is still in the house) LOVES Mark. Mark has yet to fully come around but he has been caught once or twice patting the cat's head (like one small, barely even making contact) when it jumps onto the arm rest of his chair. Sanitizer used immediately after, but hey, baby steps.

I haven't researched what it's like elsewhere but here in America a lot of stations do a 24 on- 48 off schedule. Where teams work a full 24 hour day, then have two days off. I've made this the case for LCA as well?

The Curious Minds by AllTheGoodUserNamesAreTaken The story is amazing and I’m pretty much obsessed with it. It’s a BL (Link / OC), slow burn. It’s still in progress but Holly (all hail Holly!) updates it pretty regularly.

Another BL (this one is finished) and also Link/OC is Something Greater by busket. It has quite a bit of humor and is much more lighthearted than The Curious Minds. The OC is also pretty interesting.

If you are a Link/Mipha fan then there is A Fish out of Water by JamesYorke. It’s an old story, still unfinished but it’s very good.

The things I do for you Jack Zimmermann, Camilla thinks when the wind kicks up while she waits outside the players’ exit.

She has gifts to finish wrapping, a guest room to get ready, last minute groceries to buy – but instead she is shivering despite her layers and the late afternoon sun.

Camilla had been planning on seeing one of Jack’s games, actually. Sometime in March, when she knew she had a week off. When it was a bit warmer. Her girlfriend had been baffled by Camilla going to hang out with an ex-boyfriend, but she and Jack had always been friends first – even after they started sleeping together. Once Jack decided he was friends with someone, he put 110% of himself into maintaining that friendship. They’d actually developed a fairly regular text thread, which – based on the everything she knew about Jack – was more surprising than him going into the NHL.

He’d used an emoji a few weeks ago and she almost fell off her chair.

Jack had actually called her to invite her to this game specifically – I know it’s right before Christmas and you’re probably busy but I’ve got a ticket, two if you want them – and there was something in his voice that piqued her interest. A hesitant sort of glee, like happiness was trying to burst out of him but he was reining it in for propriety’s sake.

So Camilla went to the game. It was a fun one, the Falconers beating Chicago by three points; Jack with a goal that even Camilla could tell was absolutely beautiful.

Jess: i’ve got dinner in the crockpot when you get back ❤️

“Camilla?”

She looks up from her phone to see Jack, game day suit on and a Falcs beanie – it’s a toque, Cam – covering his shower-wet hair.

“Hey, Jack! Great game,” she says, moving in for a hug. Despite the bulking up he’s done since the season started, Jack still hugs the same.

“Thanks,” he says, “The boys worked really hard, really dug in there, managed to get the pucks in deep, and Chicago was just—”

“Jack.”

“Right, sorry, habit now,” he says sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. “How have you been?”

“You know how I’ve been. What did you want to tell me in person?”

“I—”

“Because I gotta say Jack, I’ve never seen you look so settled.”

“Oh,” he says, looking pleased.

And he does look settled. There’s actual calm behind his eyes, settled in his frame; it’s like contentment has been knit into his bones. She’s never seen him this relaxed, even after winning games at Samwell – it looks great on him.

A gust of wind comes up again, and Camilla shivers again.

“Shit, you should come inside, we can talk in the player’s lounge for a minute, plus there'll be a snack and at least coffee to drink if you want to warm up a bit before heading out.”

“Jack, of course I’ll come in for a minute, but you’re babbling.”

“Right. Um.” He takes a deep, steadying breath, before meeting her eyes squarely. “Come meet my boyfriend?”

She can’t help the smile that bursts out. “Even if I wasn’t freezing right now, you have to know the answer’s yes.”

He motions her inside ahead of him. She revels in the warmth as the chat about small things through the hallways. Camilla notes with interest as Jack nods and waves at various staff that pass them by. It’s a marked difference from even two years ago. 

It suits him.

They pass into the player’s lounge and Camilla gets her first glimpse of a short young man with blonde hair who’s facing away from the entrance. Is that—? She manages to keep her excited cheer behind her lips when the man turns at the sound of their footsteps.

"And then I was gonna end with 'Boys like me belonged to the rain.'" Nursey finished. "What do you think?"

And Dex - well Dex had to think about that for a while. Because he knew how big a deal it was that Nursey was showing him his poetry at all. Knew first hand how hard they had both fought to get to this friendship. Been through argument after argument; careless comments and intentional hurts.

But they had gotten here. To a place where Nursey had shyly asked Dex's opinion - I trust you bro - and Dex, powerless to refuse, had agreed to hear it. He treasured that trust, held it close.

But he was fucked. Because Dex didn't have the words for this. Not the tactful, delicate words he knew Nursey needed to hear. His life was built around tools and numbers, not prose and poetry.

And Dex hated the poem.

Well -

It was written well, so well that even someone like Dex could follow the metaphors; Dex could be let in on Nursey's thoughts, just enough for a glimpse. But the glimpse was dark and twisted and Dex was furious.

"Dex?"

There was no way he could say that. He opened and closed his mouth a couple of times, trying to come up with something, anything to compliment. And, as usual, words deserted him.

"You gonna say anything, man, you're looking sort of - tense?" asked Nursey. It breaks Dex out of his reverie and loosens his jaw but without his brain's permission.

"It's really awful, Nurse."

You could hear a pin drop. The silence feels like an actual weight on his chest and Dex knows, okay? He knows how badly he fucked up. Knows he won't ever get a chance like this again.

"I mean--"

"Wow, Poindexter, harsh," Nursey says, the light in his eyes snuffed out. "If you didn't want to listen, you shouldn't have said yes."

"Wait, Nursey, I meant --"

"Save it, Dex, we're chill," Nursey bites out, already shoving his things back into his bag.

"No it was written really well I just--"

"Save it for someone who cares," Nursey says, striding across the room, hand already on the doorknob before Dex finds his voice again.

"It's awful because at one point you felt like that Nursey."

Nursey pauses, not looking at Dex, hand still on the doorknob.

"What?"

"Or that you still feel like that I don't know, but. But - Nursey. Derek. The sun is meant for everyone. And the fact that you felt the opposite strongly enough to write a whole poem about it infuriates me."

Derek has turned back now, just staring at Dex, wearing an expression that Dex has never seen.

"Because you deserve all the good things this world can possibly muster. You're kind, and smart, and strong, funny and surprising, and you just - you care so much about the world and the people in it. There's no way that the world could ever be so cruel as to just restrict you to belonging to the rain. You belong to the summer sun just as much, if not more."

Dex can feel his heart beating wildly in his chest. He has no idea where the words came from, but they seem to have dried up for now. He takes a deep breath and looks up at Derek and Derek is -

Dropping his backpack and striding toward Dex with such purpose that his breath catches in this throat. He still can't parse the expression on his face. No idea what Derek is going to do or say when suddenly he's there and reaching out and -

Lips. Full, slightly chapped, lips on his. Moving against his. Moving with his as he gathers enough brain cells to kiss Derek back. To throw his arms around Derek's waist. To sigh into his mouth, letting his tongue flick out and move against Derek's. Minutes, hours, or perhaps several sunlit days pass before they break apart, needing air.

Derek rests his forehead against Dex's, unwilling to separate further than a breath.

"Shit, Will. Warn a guy next time."

“Is there anything you want for your birthday? I’m obviously making you whatever you want for team dinner, but, I, uh, want you to be able to unwrap something too, ya know?”

Dex is bright red, determinedly not meeting his eyes on the first weekend back from winter break. Nursey bites down on the urge to just blurt out I could unwrap you and makes himself actually think about it.

“Huh. I don’t know, I hadn’t really thought about it this year. My birthday always kind of sneaks up on me and this year with having to figure out what post graduation looks like?” Nursey shakes his head ruefully, “It just hasn’t been on my radar.”

“Nursey, I-there’s gotta be something you want.”

Well. Obviously. But he’s been getting along so well with Dex this year, the last thing either of them needs is Nursey’s awkward confession of feelings to throw their dynamic off again. Sure, there’s been moments that Nursey’s thought maybe just maybe but--

“Have you considered...a book?” he asks weakly.

“Wow, what a novel idea. I’ll bet no one has ever thought to give you a book before,” Dex deadpans.

“Ugh, Dex, a novel idea? Novel? How dare you my good sir,” says Nursey.

“Would you believe it was unintentional?”

“...I’ll allow it. That’s your freebie for today, though.”

“Noted.”

like what if he only knows how to fix one specific problem at the haus like he tightens a cabinet handle or something but then bitty sees him and decides that means dex is Handy(TM) and tells the rest of smh

and now dex is being asked if he knows how to fix everything around the haus and like his only skill is that he knows which end of the screwdriver to hold - he doesn't know how to hang a door or re-support the porch - and he tries to correct bitty but then nursey is like 'what you don't want to help the team poindexter?' and so then dex Doubles Down

tons of research, videos, how to guides, he actually gets a part time job at a hardware store "for the money" but in actuality so he can learn from the owner

what is your absolute all-time favorite idea you’ve ever had?

oh god there are so many.

fic wise... one that i've posted it's probably my 187 fic intoxicated in which a drunk and high timmy can only speak german lmao. it was just a lot of fun to write.

but one that i haven't posted that i am loving is my married in vegas 972 (josh/chabby) fic!

original story wise i am absolutely loving writing my current romance novel. it's a gay hockey story (yes bc i have loved writing fics so much djkfndkjndd) BUT i've created a team and made up the logo and everything and it's been so fucking fun. i also have like. 4 more gay sports romance novels planned

what is your favorite part of being a writer? which parts could you take or leave?

oh my god everything????? being able to escape into the world i'm creating and letting myself just submerge into a world where i have complete control.

being able to just create something out of nothing; forming these characters, worlds, relationships, plots, everything. it's just so fucking fun. i feel god-like lmao. kind of, no but really the act of creating something is just... i don't really know how to describe it. it's so fulfilling and rewarding mentally.

having people tell me that my writing helped them or made them happy or made them laugh or whatever just gives me such a joy. it's nice knowing that my creations affect people in positive ways!

and when people are inspired by my work??????? or are inspired to write their own stories???????????? oh my god there's no better feeling. truly.

one thing i do not like is the burnout and writer's block lmao. and the imposter syndrome i feel with my original stories. but the act of writing itself? perfection.

what is your greatest motivation to write/create?

to get my brain to shut up. no, lmao (i mean kind of). but to just... idk, create. to bring life to the characters in my brain. to write these stories and share experiences with others. to affect others positively. and selfishly, to make myself feel good. writing just feels good for me.

what is your favorite story you’ve written to completion? link it if you’d like and can!

i cannot choose just one. fic wise, probably my 972 fic je t'aime where josh drags thomas to a double date with brady and timmy thinking it's just for show but it's actually a real date. and my 718 fic don't break the dam or you might drown in the current where the weight of the world just crashes onto brady's shoulders. it's more so like, brady angst with timmy and other sens sprinkled in.

original story wise, i have a fantasy novel written (it's technically complete but i'm still working out a few details). it's called keeper of the wild and it's kind of a lot to explain but it's new adult fantasy with magic-like powers, royalty, a dangerous threat, romance, and other fun things lol.

which of your characters would you say has the most controversial mindset? why do you say so and how do you personally feel about their ideals?

oh god. well, technically i was like 6 when i first started writing stories. but i didn't write seriously until i was 14. 6 year old me would probably be just amazed at how many stories i've made up lol. 14 year old me would be confused as to why on earth i'm writing romance novels (and gay ones at that, only bc i hated romance novels and if my stories had romance they were straight bc i was straight). but i think 14 year old me would also be pretty amazed at how much i've written and so happy that i've continued writing and am working towards actually being an author!

So honored my opinions are even readable given how much I write literal droning nonsense like a self absorbed social sciences prof. Anyway I'm sorry if these warrant unfollowing:

1. The character everyone gets wrong

I wrote like two paragraphs on Daniel, and then I deleted them bc these are actually nicher complaints; I think most people aren't that guilty of them!

I personally feel that people are often kind of off with how they write Max wrt his childhood (kind of irked by the A+ Parenting Tag as a concept, like imagine tagging someone's specific real life abuse sitch with a Witty Phrase), and I think there's a poor sense in general of the impact Jos had on him. He's not particularly prickly about his father, but has a stilted relationship. They call each other constantly. Max had a long term infatuation with him, IMO (I say infatuation bc crush has a different connotation that I'm not even going to unpack). That actually started declining around 2018-2019 which I have wild speculative opinions on. Now he's like... kind of just in an obligatory state. He wants to have a racing team with him! But I think that's because he has nothing else in common with him anymore. Blood and gasoline.

2. A compelling argument for why your fave would never top or bottom

I don't think Max couldn't top but I don't really write him doing that. There isn't really a rationality bc I dont think necessarily your irl behavior correlates at all with your behavior in the bedroom unless you actually are trying to project that kind of thing (which some people kind of do outside of sexual situations) but it's not a personality trait.

Also I write a lot about trauma and violation and shame and having him prefer that while it's coincidence or not similar to his trauma just works narratively idk. What he actually likes IDRC.

8. Common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

When one of them is gay and one of them is bisexual, and one of them is sexually confident and one is sexually insecure, everyone makes Daniel the confident bisexual and Max as the homophobic homosexual. This is one of those things that regardless of the actual reality, the evidence doesn't support, idk. Daniel no-homos with the best of them from the 2000s and Max will easily admit to being on gay hookup apps and liking both men and women. If you have narrative reasons that's all well and good but don't act like that's how they are irl!

18. It's absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on...

Dead dove fic in general, I think there's honestly less than in fandoms I've written for in the past. More specifically:

Jos and Max to SOME degree. Freak take I know but I see more Leclerc brother/leclerc brother fic than that. Which doesn't even like, work thematically that well to me, at least the way they do it. Idk. I don't really write porn in general, more about like, family horror a la the gothic tradition, but anyone who's been there long enough knows the pervasive incestuous themes in those. Anyway. The codependency and room sharing and Max being his mother's personality double and whatever. In Supernatural fandom they'd eat this shit up... and yet we are writing a/b/o concubine fic as our dead-dovish media of choice. Obviously it's easy to understand why people don't, I just think for locked-fic ao3 world it's an untapped market.
