Does 'loyal adaptation' mean 'one-to-one adaptation'? I wasnt sure what you meant with 'loyal adaptation' in a previous ask. I read 'loyal' as being 'one-to-one' but I dont think thats what you meant?
I have only seen that Oda mention that he want to be true to the fans as in he dont want to lie but that he also mentioned the live action was going to be an reimagination of the story.
His demands of opla was apparently only that the core of the strawhats backstory had to stay the same and their goals and then that Oda himself had to be involved in the production.
But everything else would just take inspiration from the manga.
Loyal was definitely not the right word there yeah lmao, because what I meant was they clearly wanted to keep TONS of aspects of the original - to the point they literally replicated things scene for scene sometimes - but then just...went completely off the rails afterwards?
Ie, some scenes were insanely loyal, but the events around it made them stick out like an oddly placed thumb.
Also my god this production seems to be all over the place because it was presented as an adaptation, Oda said just a reimagining, but the producers continuously said they want to put the manga onto the screen. It genuinely seems like they couldn't quite decide on what they really wanted this to be?? Because you can't just put shot for shot scenes from the manga into the live action, and then CHANGE everything around it. It doesn't have the same effect and it personally gave me this sense of whiplash. Such as Luffy literally asking Nojiko what happened to Nami, then afterwards Nami saying to Luffy "you don't know anything" and Luffy saying "Yeah, I don't." Like??? What HJFJGG
Did Oda not get the whole episode script or something for that one?? Cause there's no WAY he wouldn't point that out and say this doesn't make sense HH.
This was definitely much more a reinterpretation than anything, and I really do not think this should've even been called One Piece if they were just going to take bits and pieces and want it to be something else?? But of course, Netflix aren't gonna do that, cause it's more profitable to ride off the coat tails of a popular media lol

[Spoilers for Mob Psycho 100 s3e9]
After last week's disappointment (the aliens), I'm glad to say episode 9 brought me unending pleasure! So, here's a list of things this episode did that brought me joy:
We actually got much more of tsubomi's pov in the anime, than we got in the manga. I understand that Manga Tsubomi is strictly through Shigeo's (and now and then Ritsu's) eyes and that is cool in its own way, but whew, it's really nice to see her being a character instead of just the idea of one. (I'm going to write a full post about her - I'll let you know when that's up!).
Serizawa is pretty much the only person who seems to genuinely see Reigen's true self, but rather than going along with his ruses/lies for the sake of "the flow", he just seems to accept that people don't actually have their shit together - that he didn't waste as much time as he'd thought, and by going to school and working with s&s, he's actually able to live a pretty normal life. He's happy with the way things are, not just complacent like he was with Claw. (I will also make a longer post about this - I'll let ya know when!)
Okay, serious points are said, from here on they're a bit dumb ahaha!
Takenaka revealing Tome isn't a girl 😱😱😱 this is a joke but I like thinking Tome is agender like me, so even though his comment was more along the lines of "ugh as if she knows what girls want, she's a weirdo 🙄" it just gave me fuel for my headcanon, sorry! Agender person who uses she/her because tbh we like these ones well enough, and have much more important things to think about (like the occult) 😩😩
RITSU SITTING SO FORMALLY IN FRONT OF SHIGEO I CRIED oh ritsu if you want to be closer with him,,,, you,, you have to act normal around him,,,, lmao. And oh Shigeo feeling more confident because Ritsu is nervous for his sake (aw I love my favourite brothers ever) and the little 🙏🙏 Ritsu does while Shigeo's on the phone, this guy is so funny for no reason
The... The shot of Shigeo playing football with ease :((( parallel to our first meeting :((( the very first episode :((((( he's all grown up :(((( gorgeous :(((((
Ending at the car-crash: AS IT SHOULD BE!!!!! I thought it might end the episode there for shock value and oh it did NOT disappoint!! The way everything just stayed static there for like.. a full minute with the crosswalk tune playing? Masterpiece! Also RIGHT after he used his powers in FULL public???? Of his own choice??? Shigeo really did grow so much!!! Like I said!! S3 is about his finale of self acceptance and it's coming in like a steamtrain!!!! (And also maybe it's unnecessary to mention and I'm sorry, but him saving the cat vs being unable to save the cat during the Mogami arc is a parallel I'm unable to remove from my mind)
Side note, anime-onlies I'm SO sorry for the whiplash you received/will receive at the end of the episode!! I'm sending you the strength to survive until next Wednesday!! I remember the crash happening in the manga and me going feral about it haha! This arc is So Good.
Also I love the body improvement club so much they're so silly I'm so glad Shigeo knows them and has them in his life 😭

Classic Horror Books #1: The Castle of Otranto
I started off my plunge into Classic Horror with The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole. It is a short story published in 1764, and often regarded as the first “Gothic” novel. I read mine in a collection of gothic stories called A Treasury of Gothic and Supernatural by Avenel Books. And…it kind of gave me whiplash, lmao. I have read entirely contemporary books for the last few years, and even before that I’m not sure when I had read a book this old. To jump into something that is written with near entirely run-on sentences and “thou”, “thy”, “thee” this-and-that, my brain was uhhh chugging to say the least. This is something I suspect will improve as I go through the list, but for right now, it was a bit hard. I had to really concentrate to glean what was going on, and who was speaking.
The gist of this story is that the Prince Manfred of the Castle Otranto has been a bad guy. His father and grandfather before him were bad guys too. And for this, the haunted Castle of Otranto is going to give Prince Manfred his ghostly retribution. Unfortunately, his whole family, the church, and even another castle’s royalty gets caught in the shitstorm as well.
It definitely has the gothic literature vibes down. Dastardly men, spooky castles, damsels in distress, religion, ghosts, romance, and hey, it even has a giant spectral knight! Despite that, I found it a bit dry, although that may just be the writing style of the period. It also suffered from a little weird pacing. Sometimes it seemed like things were going quickly, and then other times it focused too heavily on something that could have been much, much shorter. The dialogue was copious and heavy, very formal, and sometimes I was like, “will you just get to the point!!” But, overall, I did like the story, and it was interesting to read something that is labeled the “first Gothic story”, because Gothic elements just seem so commonplace to me that I didn’t ever think of them originating from something.
One fun tidbit I came across was the mention of “Queer Elements” regarding this story while I was researching. I personally did not notice the queer/homoerotic elements that were pointed out, but because of that, I ended up down a rabbit hole of queer components in Gothic lit. There are several publications that visit this in detail, and I will look into them while I continue my reading list.
Spoilers ahead, in pink!
Manfred was such an asshole, and my biggest disappointment in the story was despite all this shit being his fault (and his father & grandfather’s fault), Isabella, Hippolita, Theodore, and both his children paid the price for his misdeeds. Then he just like…retires to religion afterward, to repent, I guess?? Sure dude, try to marry (and ASSAULT??) a young girl who was engaged to your (now smushed) son, be a total twat to your loving wife, abuse this random kid you suddenly want to place all your blame on (Theodore), and then accidentally MURDER your daughter! I was all invested in this cute “love at first sight” thing that Theodore and Matilda had going on and then, nope. Stabbed.
The whole random giant legs and arms and such showing up and frightening Bianca, Diego, and Jaquez was sort of hilarious though. It’s laughable but I suppose if I walked into a room and an enormous armored hand was just waiting for me, I would be a bit scared too lol
Well! Thank you for joining me on this little jaunt through my first dip into Classic Horror! Up next is The Mysteries of Udolpho by Ann Radcliffe, a gothic horror-romance from 1794. It is also 704 pages long, which means I mayyy supplement it with a few shorter stories/manga so that I don’t get too burnt out reading it.
See you next time!

beastars episode 24 thoughts!
this post got kinda long i have Many Thoughts on this one
Overall I had fun watching this ep but I could really tell it was rushed and there was so much that got cut, which makes me super sad. our fears about the finale having pacing issues due to all the added scenes & rearranging were confirmed & it rly sucks, but i'll elaborate more on that in a bit.
this week's ep covered the end of chapter 92, chapters 93-97, and included small bits of chapters 98 & 99.
so the ep starts with the ED and the latter part of the tunnel scene with ibuki and louis. i liked the visual effect they used to show that they were in the dark. louis' voice acting was also On Point. for the most part i think this scene was done pretty well but I can tell it's being rushed also. I really wish we got more buildup and narration instead of just jumping straight to ibuki telling louis to shoot him. the way it is in the anime feels less impactful imo.
also im sad we didnt get to see this in the anime
Tumblr media
before i move on, i wanna talk a bit about louis and his relationship w/ the shishigumi and ibuki. i feel like in the anime quite a few of the lil moments that really endear you to the shishigumi and also ibuki were either cut or kinda glossed over, which is strange to me considering how much effort and care went into the ED. it's very emotional and good but i feel like maybe anime onlies are missing out only seeing the anime and the MV. but idk.
legosi and riz's fight was quite rushed as well. there's so much narration and dialogue missing from it and that really rubs me the wrong way. It wasn't all bad but compared to the manga I just don't think it's as good. I will say tho that I really liked the sequence w legosi and the moths. I thought it looked really nice and was pretty well done.
also i liked how the backgrounds had some anti-yahya graffiti, its a nice touch imo
Tumblr media
it says "high quality horse meat"
I was happy to see legosi do the "tell me more" pose but I'm honestly disappointed that the anime took out the whole exposition about why legosi did it. like i feel like without that it's just legosi being weird when he has a reason for it!!! This is just one example of the anime taking out crucial narration during the fight.
I also think it's kinda weird how they changed how louis shows up at the fight. im not sure how i feel about riz just charging at him like that, but i liked how legosi kicked him before they ran lol.
i dont have much to say about pina's small scene but I did wanna say that during my first watch thru of the ep i was too distracted trying to read the graffiti behind him that i didn't notice him getting his phone out of the dumpster and calling the cops lmao
Tumblr media
it says "devour yahya"
and now... here we are... the predation scene.
overall i thought it was pretty well done but, like the rest of the ep, i could tell it was also being kinda rushed. some important beats werent given enough time to really sink in, and there's a few bits of narration taken out of this part as well that i find disappointing :^(
Tumblr media
tho i did like how the anime called back to this scene in s1 when legosi mentions utilizing his strength.
Tumblr media
also this part where louis is remembering ibuki had me like😭
I also really liked seeing louis cry. I was crying too sjdflskjdflsjkdf. i thought that scene was really good, its prolly my favorite part of the ep tbh. getting to hear the whole predation scene voiced made me kind of a mess lol. i really liked louis' expressions throughout this whole ep too. studio orange used their whole louis expression budget on these last 2 eps lmao.
seeing legosi instantly get all beefed up was great too. he looked a little ridiculous but i kinda loved it lol. he's so huge and poofy. i love him.
Tumblr media
big pomeranian
anyway, im also sad they took out louis' line about being reduced to a flashback character lol. instead he tells legosi "be a hero" again which... im not sure about that change. i liked the part with riz thinking back about tem tho. tho imo the way riz realizes he's in the wrong feels pretty sudden. again adding to how rushed the whole ep feels.
before i move on again i just wanna say legosi looks so cute. even all puffed up and covered in blood. how does he do that
Tumblr media Tumblr media
baby boy baby. i wanna ruffle his cheek floofs.
i think one of the things im most disappointed about from this whole ep was how the fight got wrapped up. i really like how the cops show up and totally shift the tone in the manga jslkdfjskljdf. im also really sad we didnt get this interaction
Tumblr media
tthe anime really took out most of the sillier moments from the finale, which makes me pretty sad to think about. i know the anime and manga have different tones but pls let the boys be silly sometimes!!
the next part where legosi and louis finally establish their friendship was really cute tho ❤️ even tho it was pretty different i enjoyed it a lot.
Tumblr media
BABIESSSS 🥺😭❤️❤️
the wrap-up for this arc and this episode gave me whiplash sdjlfkjsdf. it literally speedruns thru legosi's predation conviction, being released, louis & haru's graduation, and legosi deciding he's going to drop out of school. that is SO MUCH AT ONCE. also i was holding out hope that legosi would have his new years call with haru after the fight instead but that didnt happen!! so it just got cut!!! kinda mad about that tbh. legosi and haru having a lil scene at the very end made up for it a lil bit but that's still one of haru's few moments in this arc that's just not included.
we didnt even get the part wher legosi learns he can't marry haru bc of his conviction.
ive been really hoping for a season 3 announcement once this season ended. with all the background allusions to yahya, the added plot point of someone stealing elephant tusks, and sebun and melon's lil cameos in this season, it seemed to me that studio orange was kinda teasing a 3rd season. but now, with the dismissive way the anime ended, and paru's note from earlier today, im less sure about the possibility of a 3rd season. i'd still like to see the rest of the series animated, but i guess we'll just have to wait and see if more anime is announced in the future.
if we do get another season in the future i just hope that we swing back around and actually address the things that got completely glossed over in the last couple minutes of this episode instead of charging forward w/o touching them again.
i really think the finale for this arc should've been two episodes at least. not including the tunnel scene. i think then things wouldn't have felt so rushed. people have been saying this season really would have benefitted from at least 1 extra episode and i cant help but agree. some have even suggested a whole 24 episodes just for this arc, but i think that this arc couldve been done properly with 12 or 13 episodes if there was some better prioritizing on what to include and what to cut.
like i dont mind not getting the parts about legosi's family if they can be addressed somehow in a future season (or if theres no more future anime seasons thats a plot thread that doesnt have to be worried about). i could have lived w/o seeing sheila & peach's chapter animated if it meant more time for the focus of this arc. and was the kangaroo red herring really necessary?
adaptation wise, i dont think this season was as good as the first. i still think it did fairly well, but i know that it could have been much better. ive been excited to watch this season with my friends once the dub releases, but now im wondering if i should just tell them to read the manga instead. sighs idk. perhaps it comes thru better as a bingewatch, or perhaps im being a bit too harsh. idk. at some point ill do a rewatch and see how i feel about the season as a whole, but that wont be for a while.
if you've read this far, thanks for reading my ramblings!! it's been fun to make these posts every week and im gonna miss getting new episodes every week.

in my country i don't think it's a big thing to read mangas or comics. it has like three layers of emotion less than any audiovisual, AND it's not very accessible to anyone, anyways. for example NANA, it's been translated to literally three of the country's languages (which is a big thing) but if you want to buy the manga you either have to live in a big city or do so online. i personally prefer ano hana's manga (as an example), but the music and pacing of the anime is just sooo good. same happens with nana, bc the music (for me) is a huge part of its identity. it shaped me when i was younger, and it literally gave me whiplash and a thousand other emotions now that i'm rewatching haha but idk! i guess it's still badly seen to read manga
Oooh my god I completely forgot that mangas are not like totally normal and everywhere in every country lmao !! okay yeah that explains it now that I think about it, I remember reading that France is the second biggest manga market after Japan so here they're really just part of the basics like they're sold even in isolated supermarkets in the countryside and we have a shitton of choice in big book stores and libraries. They're literally easier to find than Batman or Spider man comics, and generally take as much if not more space in stores than franco-belgium comics themselves. So yeah okay I understand better why people don't just go pick up mangas to read, I guess the majority first discovers animes online

I have three questions that are kinda related to the same topic. 1) What did you make of Killua's reaction to Gon saying "sure I have" about being on dates (like a rock drops on his head or something)? was that supposed to be disappointment? 2) Do you think Gon's "dates" were just him being confused about what a real date was? 3) Killua stalking Gon and Palm read like a romcom moment. Do you think Togashi did that intentionally?
This chapter gave me whiplash, honestly XD.
So if the question is whether Killua is intentionally supposed to be jealous of Gon and Palm’s “date” then the answer is yes, absolutely, this is intentional.  A lot of things happen in a short amount of time in this section of the manga, including the “Gon you are Light” speech which is the moment where for many people, a line is crossed and it becomes harder to see Gon and Killua as just friends without any other subtext going on.
Then if “Gon You are Light” wasn’t enough, a couple volumes later we get in short succession 1) Gon and Killua talking about dates and dating, 2) Gon going on a “date” with Palm, and 3) Killua following along jealously.  And yes, there’s some reason given in canon for why Killua ‘has’ to follow Gon to protect him, but honestly?  I think it’s a bit of a narrative convenience.  Killua can tell himself that he is motivated purely by the desire to protect Gon from the Ants (which is true), and Togashi can tell his editors See, It’s Not Gay, They’re Just Good Friends.
(Or alternately and more probably, the editors can be satisfied knowing that ‘fanservice’ between the main characters is very good for business, but they still have plausible deniability with the straight male segment of their audience.)
Tumblr media
I mean, if you ask me whether something in HxH is intentional, the answer will almost always be yes.  For example, Killua didn’t have to point out to the audience that he looks like a stalker following Gon and Palm… but he did.
Here’s what restekova says about HxH:
you know what i like about hunter x hunter? you wanna know why it’s one of the best shonen manga of any generation? togashi makes choices. okay? he makes choices consciously. when he writes. kurapika’s powers— chains. the symbolism. it means something. the— the manga— encourages you to think, while reading it, on an extremely basic level. it doesn’t assume that your synapses stop firing when you start consuming media. that’s how low the bar is.  fuck. guys, i hang out in independent bookstores sometimes. i’m tired
From here.  I hope I’m not stepping on any toes with this BTW, I just like it.
But saying it’s intentional doesn’t mean we’re not allowed to criticize.  Personally I find a lot of things in this chapter extremely awkward, LMAO.
For example, in the CA arc Killua suddenly has an eight-pack… this is just straight-up fanservice right?
Tumblr media
And beyond that he’s drawn differently from how we was at the start  of the series, his jaw is squarer, and he’s broader…  Personally I think Togashi is trying - again intentionally - to show that since the beginning of the series this character has grown up, not just emotionally, but physically.
So why do I bring this up?   Well personally, I think starting the series with Gon and Killua both 11 was a deliberate choice, so they could be close without really raising questions in people’s minds about whether this was “too close” for two dudes to be, or not.  You have to remember, this is an old series and even today it’s not really OK to have outright gay content in a Weekly Shounen Jump (WSJ) manga.
And I think Togashi actually wanted, when the Chimera Ant arc came around, to show a gradual shift in their dynamic, and to start to bring up this potential issue of romance or at least romantic crushes for both Gon and Killua. It’s not a huge stretch to think this was the intention, BTW, because lots of WSJ manga with teen protags bring up the issue of crushes, and liking other people, usually in that unbearably awkward teen way.
As far as like… the specific form this content takes in HxH… with Palm being so much older, and the supposed “cougars” on Whale Island (or I think in Japanese they’re called “maniacs”)…. There’s the in-canon explanation for this, and the out of canon explanation for this, or what fans call the “Holmesian” and “Doylist” explanations.
So the in-canon, Holmesian explanation is that Palm is kind of unhinged, so, at the start of this chapter, Killua thinks “forget the enemies - I have to protect Gon from Palm.“ Basically, he already doesn’t like her and thinks she’s dangerous, and his priority is to protect Gon, who is innocent, from her, because she’s an unstable maniac.
But the twist is that Gon is actually pretty good at dealing with Palm, and doesn’t need Killua’s help at all:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I mean, is it really that surprising that Gon doesn’t need Killua’s help? Sure, he doesn’t have nen…but he also didn’t have nen at the start of the series. We already know he has no problem with danger or dangerous people, and he’s also is very open-minded and doesn’t tend to judge people’s actions as right or wrong (as Zepile pointed out).
But just because he’s open minded and trusting, it doesn’t mean he’s vulnerable to being taken advantage of… because the thing about Gon is he judges people based on how they act toward him personally and not on social expectations or social rules. (If he judged people based on social rules, he and Killua would not be friends probably.) Plus, Gon has good instincts about people and high social intelligence, and he knows when to NOT say what he’s thinking, and just keep his opinions to himself.
Killua is impressed with how Gon handles Palm and her nuttiness, and then that sets the stage for the conversation about dates, and dating, which leads to Killua thinking about himself and Gon along the same lines:
Tumblr media
As for the out of canon, Holmesian explanation… as I think other folks have already said, the purpose of Gon and Palm is make the readers start thinking about Gon and Killua.  Palm is just a narrative convenience in this sense, to force this subject to come up, since Togashi wants to bring it up. And really, there’s just no good way to segue into the subject of dates, and dating, at this point in the story, because as Killua says, they spend all their time together, and have since the beginning of the manga.
But let’s be real here, it’s not really an appropriate crush that Palm has on Gon, and it’s just a super awkward way to introduce the subject in general. Wouldn’t it have been better to introduce someone the same age as Gon and Killua? That’s how a normal manga would have done it, right?
Except, obviously, that the readers (and especially the shippers) would have hated that.  Togashi knows shippers, and he knows fanservice. There was fanservice in Yu Yu Hakusho too. Shippers don’t want a real romantic option on the table, because they are invested in the relationship between the main characters.
And why not? Killua and Gon’s relationship is way more developed at this point in the manga than anything that could be suddenly introduced… it’s more developed than almost any other relationship in shounen manga, period.  The entire manga is about Gon and Killua and their relationship (mostly); even when Alluka came in, some people didn’t like it.
So I think Palm is the vessel here, because Gon/Palm is just not going to happen, ever. It’s not a threat to the main pairing (however you want to interpret that), even though it’s awkward and weird.
And perhaps it was always going to be awkward to bring up the subject of Gon/Killua, because teen crushes are awkward, and gay crushes on your best friend are doubly awkward, and TBH most weekly shounen jump preteen romances are awkward. Also the issue of the adult fanbase of Hunter x Hunter that is invested in Killugon (raises hand) is potentially awkward, especially  with a lot of people thinking it’s not appropriate to bring up the issue of gay crushes at all, and seeing all gay relationships as inherently sexualized and inappropriate, in a way that’s just not true for straight relationships.
But yes… because the intention here is to force you to really admit that these two kids might like each other, as more than friends, personally I think the conversation in the gym and the ‘date’ with Palm is there because it’s the only way Togashi could think of to somewhat ‘naturally’ bring up the romance angle, without it really coming totally out of the blue.
(And who knows, maybe it’s a call out to the older fans too.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, let’s be real here… it’s not super appropriate, but it’s kind of funny.  As you said, it’s a romcom… In the middle of this super grim arc about being forced to grow up too fast, and war, and trauma, and all the rest… for Killua to think that Gon is ‘experienced’ (in Japanese I believe the phrasing is ‘he’s an adult!’) while Gon talks about ‘Cougars’ or ‘Maniacs’ with his baby face on FULL BLAST… it is a joke, we’re supposed to laugh.  The rock falling on Killua is a visual gag, it’s a punchline.
But no, I don’t think the dates on Whale Island were real dates.  I don’t think the date with Palm is a real date either.  Killua has all kinds of experiences he shouldn’t have had at his age, but he hasn’t had this particular experience and neither has Gon, at least in my opinion.  Gon isn’t as innocent as he looks, neither is Killua, but at the same time they still are actually innocent in some ways.
Plus, I think we currently bring all kinds of baggage to these chapters that just didn’t exist in their original context.  Folks in English-speaking fandom online are way more sensitive to the issue of potentially inappropriate relationships, than the readers in Japan would have been in 2007.  Overall I’d say this chapter is, besides being in character for both of them, really just supposed to be a bit of a breather from the heavier stuff… It’s supposed to be a joke and it’s fanservice.  I know many people won’t laugh (which is valid), but that’s honestly the intention I think.

Also I know shiji and Mari are supposed to mirror anno and moyocco but like. That was so cringe. SO cringe. Seeing shinji FLIRTING WITH A WOMAN gave me whiplash lmao why would Mari be interested in shinji. It was better in the manga where she was in love with his mother

Anime fans are…notorious for being lazy and equating anything remotely Asian with Japan, yeah. Back when manhwa first started coming out in the West, it was literally marketed via the company UDON as “Korean manhwa” but a good number of fanworks for those products still used Japanese terms and culture instead. Gave me such bad whiplash the first time lol
I had no idea what manhwa was, I thought it was some kind of spelling of manga and I thought, “Have I been pronouncing it wrong all this time???” LMAO
I didn’t realize Korea had comics too. I wonder why this is the first I’ve heard of them... But man that’s annoying that it’s Korean yet fans decide to Japan-ficate it.

I’ve been waiting to make this post since yesterday night the second I walked out the theater
Spoilers for the new My Hero Academia Movie (all the spoilers)
“He passed out before the transfer finished.”
???? Wow ok.
“He woke up and didn’t remember anything.”
WOW OK
I just. The absolutely TEXTBOOK definition of trying to have your cake and eat it too. Wow.
To have that incredibly good and powerful moment where Deku gives Bakugou One for All. It was great. The theater absolutely fucking LOST IT. Myself included!! It was so good. As they built up to it I literally whispered “shut up” out loud because I thought there was no way it was going to go there. And of course Deku was going to get it back, but the act alone was momentous. The fallout would be something powerful to deal with.
Only then the movie just. DIDN’T. The most pathetic of handwaves IMAGINABLE. I am literally wondering if something maybe got lost in translation (I watched dubbed) or I missed something with regard to the previous users having an impact on the situation because I was still too busy freaking out about the transfer and the fight itself. Because otherwise the status quo reset was so painful and obvious it gave me whiplash.
I remember reading that for this movie Horikoshi recycled some ideas that he was originally going to use for the ending of the entire manga. Not only was that obvious in the form of the villain before even watching the movie, but now I can’t help but think that Bakugou getting One for All for a hot minute was originally an idea to be a capping moment for his character arc. Could you imagine Bakugou gets One for All and but then giving back to Deku, acknowledging that Deku has made it his own and that Bakugou doesn’t want it; that Bakugou wants to become number one without it? I can, very easily. Only it right now it would fuck with the manga status quo, so they just had it stay with Deku for no tangible reason and had Bakugou forget the fight for no tangible reason. And that hurts the growing bkdk part of my heart.
I hope Horikoshi scrapped this character cap for the apology scene that he says Bakugou needs to give instead otherwise I’m about to riot.
The movie was a bakudeku feast in despite all this though. The nighttime patrol scene (with Bakugou’s costumed head sticking out, really funny) and the scene with Bakugou eavesdropping on Deku talking about his hero convictions (the popsicle, really funny). Good food.  Also both them having their arms broken from One for All and Bakugou going “what the hell ouch” and Deku giving him a kind of look and line that clearly conveyed “Come on dude I break my arms like three times a week this is nothing to freak out about lets GO we got shit to DO”. (Also really funny.)
Others comments on movie:
My third eye was opened with regards to Tokoyami/Mina. It’d be a good ship. I think any het with Tokoyami would be good tbh. I’m sold on it.
Somewhat related to that it was funny how Tokoyami had Mina getting hurt and Deku had Uraraka getting knocked out as time to get serious moments (Tokoyami’s highkey Deku’s lowkey) and Bakugou had... Sero lol. On one hand: I can’t lie I’m a little biased and kind of wish it had been Kirishima, but on the other hand: Bakusquad real.
Todoroki seemed a tiny bit off in this movie... as my one of my favorite characters I kinda wish him and my other favorite (Kirishima) had a little more to do. :(
The end shot though when Endeavor was hugging Todoroki lmfao that was great. (May have said “fuck endeavor” out loud again...)
Of all the side characters who had their little side character moments you know who stood out out to me in this movie out of all of them believe it or not? Aoyoma. Good for him tbh.
Iida and Momo also looking real cute as class president squad leading the group :)
What the FUCK was beast guy’s quirk supposed to be. He’s a beast and has a wolf head, sure, and has hawk feet and wings, alright, and also can block fire and breathe lasers. Sorry what?
Bakugou going with part of Bakusquad (Him, Kirishima and Denki) to fight mummy guy? Good. Him calling out Mineta, Invisible Girl, and Aoyoma as been useless for not being able to hold their own against one villain? marge simpson hes right but he shouldnt say it dot jpeg
I mentioned this before but the teachers’ idiot idea to sent the students to an island alone... I know its a movie and it needed the plot contrivance but GUYS. Come on.
All Might parachuting ahead to the island (lmao) just to have a moment with Deku and Bakugou where he holds their hands and cries... Dad Might real.
It was a fun watch and I’m REALLY glad I managed to convince my friend to go see with me in theaters. The group reaction to the One For All handoff ALONE was worth the price of admission.
P.S. Patron saints of bkdk with the AUs where Bakugou remembers and/or has to give the quirk back himself WHEN.

EXO 101: A Crash Course
Park Chanyeol
Tumblr media
Soft baby by day, sexy mofo by night. Can do everything?? Sing, rap, dance, cook, act, write and produce music, play the guitar (classical, spanish, lead, and rhythm omg) and the piano and the drums, has the body of an elf king. He’s also AMAZING with children as shown [here - skip to 12:17 and WATCH you won’t regret it] and dogs too! All animals really. He’s Korean Snow White. With abs. And if Snow White was extra.
Also the kindest soul ever. He’s always smiling, even when he’s down. He literally said, and I quote; “No matter how difficult something is, I will always be positive and smile like an idiot.” His then-girlfriend nicknamed him “Happy Virus.” Constantly buys his members gifts, is very tall (well over six feet), and he’s the most extroverted and sociable person - actually friends with everyone. 10/10 amazing human.
Byun Baekhyun
Tumblr media
Don’t let him fool you!!! He looks soft but he will fuck you up with his cheeky lil smile and pelvic sorcery and unearthly vocals and uGH. His wit is unparalleled like omg, so sassy and hilarious and sharp. Also a huge nerd when it comes to anime, manga, and video games. Once gave a picture of himself to another member as a gift, the lil shit.
He’s incredibly passionate about his career and his members, and I think it was Kyungsoo who said that it’s Baek who keeps them all together at times. In summary: Byun Baekhyun is what happens when a demon and an angel do the do.
D.O./Do Kyungsoo:
Tumblr media
Do Kyungsoo? More like Do Me, Kyungsoo. I’m sorry I’m so thirsty Ksoo...I don’t even know where to begin with this one. First of all, he single-handedly saved the human race from extinction with his voice. He’s savage af, so much so that he’s affectionately nicknamed “Satansoo” and he will smack a bitch. He’s also so soft and squishy at the same time, you’ll get whiplash. And his acTING. Lord in heaven. And I believe he didn’t even have acting lessons?? The nerve of him. He, too, is sex on legs, and he might be quieter than the others, but y’all best listen when he talks cause boy bout to spill the tea.
He’s also very paternal in that he takes care of the other members a lot, like when Kai, his roommate, isn’t feeling well, he’ll care for him or go out to get food for him. And he can cook really well. I’m gonna stop now before I end up writing an entire dissertation ;’)
Lay/Zhang Yixing
Tumblr media
ALSO NOT PURE ABORT ABORT THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
Oh my god. Anyway. Zhang Yixing is the perfect contradiction. On the one hand, he’s an actual baby lamb - laugh and all. On the other hand, he’s the human embodiment of the NC-17 rating. Like, hide yo kids. Yixing is also one of the Chinese members of EXO, so he often leaves to promote his solo music which is in Chinese, and he works so incredibly hard and deserves all the success. He also writes the lyrics, and composes and arranges the music!
And...his dancing. Proof that god exists. There is literally no part of his body that Yixing does not have absolute command over - and you can see it because he is so precise, confident, and sexy. :’)
Suho/Kim Junmyeon
Tumblr media
I actually had to cover his face while writing this because holy--
Yup. Moving on.
Actually, back to his face (and the rest of him): Remember when Da Vinci was conceptualizing the Vitruvian Man (lol only 90′s kids will remember...1490′s kids, that is). You know that picture of the guy with another pair of arms and legs superimposed on him, inside a circle? The drawing theorizing the ideal proportions of the human body? Yup, true story: Junmyeon was Da Vinci’s muse. Suho’s face is so symmetrical, it inspired mathematicians to write the golden ratio. He is a genetic miracle, a statistical outlier, a national treasure--
Anyway *sweats*. ALSO. Let’s talk about his personality. Myeon is the mom of EXO, the leader, so he’s naturally very parental. He actually chose the stage name “Suho” because it means guardian. He always does his best to keep his kids the members together and doing what they need to be doing. Always pays for things ($Junmoney$), and is the person a lot of them confide in and go to for comfort or advice, especially Sehun.
He’s such a dad too - like his dad joke ratings are off the charts. 10/10 would build you a tree house and tuck you in at night.
Oh Sehun
Tumblr media
Maknae. Icon. Legend. Used to have a lisp.
People sometimes think he’s cold or reserved because of his face, but as you can see in the gif, he’s literal sunshine. He once cried on stage because he was knocked on the head by a camera - but he wasn’t crying because the injury hurt, he was crying because he wasn’t allowed to perform because of it, and he felt like he was disappointing his fans. He also cried during a radio show when asked about his other members - he said every night before he falls asleep, he prays for them and he prays that they all stay together and are successful and happy. And now I’m crying.
Everyone is in love with him.
His dancing resurrected me from the dead, put my children through college, and ended world hunger because damn we are fed when that boy moves.
Sehun was once invited to Paris for a Louis Vuitton fashion show and became king of France. I’m not kidding. All he did was show up, and there was a huge crowd already there to greet him as if he were royalty, and he was voted best dressed at the show by Vogue. He went to the Louvre, and people were studying and appreciating him, the actual art.
Chen/Kim Jongdae
Tumblr media
Ah, little dino bby. He’s iconic for many reasons:
1) His smile. It curls up at the corners like this :}
2) When he laughs, he literally goes HAHAHAHAHA like wow, amazing, I want this as my ringtone
3) He screams a lot. Nickelodeon once made a show about him called Jongdae: The Last Pterodactyl.
4) HIS VOCALS. Un-freaking-believable. He’s the male version of Mariah Carey.
5) Speaks really good Chinese! (He’s Korean)
6) An amazing human?? He donates to charity so often and he doesn’t do it for publicity either. He takes good care of the other members too.
Jongdae, let me put a ring on it.
Xiumin/Kim Minseok
Tumblr media
HERE WE GO. My precious boy :’)
Minseok. The eldest. Also known as the best person to ever exist. Like Kyungsoo, he doesn’t talk much because he’s a shy lil bean, but once he warms up to you, the things that come out of his mouth are so deep and cute and funny and wowow I want ten of him
Is the least likely to cry
Was chubby (and so adorable!!) as a little kid, and now he has a six pack. Because of his weight as a kid though, he has spoken many times about the issue of body shaming and how people’s perceptions of a person shift based on how they look. He once said these words that made my cold, dead heart beat again: “I don’t have an ideal type. If our hearts match well, then she will look pretty to me.”
Has the strongest arms in EXO. They all arm wrestled and he won and it was the funniest thing ever.
Is not only an idol, he’s also getting his Ph.D. Dr. Kim. I can’t believe....
Wants to open his own coffee shop, and I don’t drink coffee, but I would chug any dish-water-coffee-grinds-filth that he would serve me because damn I love him.
Kai/Kim Jongin
Tumblr media
R00D MOTHERF*CKER.
The Bias Wrecker. Or just your bias, plain and simple
Kim Jongin is one of nature’s greatest accomplishments. His gams are the eighth wonder of the world - and he puts them to use when he dances, like please kick me in the face with those omfg
His laugh. Astounding. Also don’t stand too close when he laughs because he will hit you. It’s just what he does lmao
He’s basically a hip young old man - so hot but so sleepy. He’ll sleep at any given opportunity.
Very fond of fried chicken. And dogs. But not in terms of eating, for the latter
Learned ballet for ten years and it shows, and I just wANT TO SEE HIM IN A LEOTARD DAMMIT
He has darker skin than the other members which people used to make fun of him for and still do comment on, but he says he loves it and he is proud of his body :’) we are too bby!!
Other random facts:
-  EXO originally had 12 members but 3 left and we’re not going to talk about it okay? okay
- Chen and Xiumin are married best friends. Xiumin actually said in an interview that Chen is “like my wife”
- Sehun is now officially Lord Oh Sehun of Glencoe, Scotland because his fans are the most Extra and purchased the estate for his birthday :’)
- Chanyeol once folded one hundred paper cranes for his girlfriend as a gift, but in the middle of doing this, she called him and broke up with him
- Baekhyun can’t cook for shit but at least he’s pretty
- Kai dated F(X)’s Krystal
- Kyungsoo once said to the camera that he is “not pure”
- Yixing starred in a gay sci-fi movie where he and this other dude have a baby
- Suho is a health nut. Just like how girls always have pads and tampons on them, Suho has multivitamins
For @the-porcelain-doll-xo because I’m the friend that wants to drag you into hell with me, and I can’t wait for you to get into EXO ahhhhh ily <33
