I HAVE FRIENDS IN HOLY SPACES

Brendon told Kerrang that this song was “about this old friend that I knew when I was 16. I thought she was cool for, like, a month, and then it turned out she was all about name-dropping. That was my first experience with that type of person.” Pretty sure there were some more recent people in Bden’s life who fit that mold and could’ve influenced the song too haha.

The early name was Famous Friends and that’s what fans were told at the start of January 2008.

Ryan said that Brendon couldn’t concentrate long enough to write a song over a minute & a half.

NORTHERN DOWNPOUR

Spencer told The Toronto Sun that “It’s probably the slowest tempo song that we’ve ever written. To the average person, that would be the most standout song to add strings to, this epic ballad. But that was the thing we tried to stray away from. We never want to take our songs into that cheesy side of things. For that song we tried to keep it as bare as possible. It was about finding a good balance, I think.”

WHEN THE DAY MET THE NIGHT

there were a couple songs about the weather that felt like nursery rhymes and were written in Ryan’s backyard in July 2007... this is one. 

Jon said “We had this idea that the day and the night met each other… it’s basically a fairytale story about two times a day falling in love with each other and the world being day & night at the same time consecutively somehow.”

Ryan said this was like a kid’s story about the sun & moon falling in love and it was the only actual love song on the album (although other songs were about love).

Brendon told Rolling Stone that “We actually had a lot of fun with this record… You’re doing ten, eleven takes, so you’re gonna probably do some different things through that, and ended up having some really cool things happen. The whole outro on ‘When the Day Met the Night’ was written while we were tracking the song. It was just like, bang, this guitar thing and then I was looking at Spencer and I was like, ‘Just go,’ and everybody kept playing.”

This song changed a lot (they cut out the bridge, which was the best part in any song they ever wrote nbd).

fans called this Middle of Summer when we first heard it on August 5, 2007 and that name stuck around until mid-January 2008 (actually, a couple journalists were still calling it that in early spring so whatever). The Kerrang article at the start of 2008 even had Jon saying that the song was tentatively titled “Middle of Summer.” A few journalists called it some different phrases, though, so this song’s name was kind of confusing for like half a year... I still call it “Middle of Summer” sometimes tbh.

PAS DE CHEVAL

This song sounded like a gallop. Pas de cheval is a ballet term that translates to “step of the horse” (and looks like this). Keltie was a dancer, so we figured she probably had something to do with that name.

at one point the working title was “Sing It For Them.”

THE PIANO KNOWS SOMETHING I DON’T KNOW

Spencer did a lot with this song – both in terms of melody & lyrics. 

Ryan told InRock that he & Jon wrote the guitar part and Spencer wrote the melody.

from the band’s Las Vegas Weekly cover article: “Jon Walker had an idea for a vocal he wanted to do on ‘The Piano Knows Something I Don’t Know,’ putting a microphone in a metal trash can and having the vocals coming through this little tiny amp.”

Ryan said this was one of the most creative & interesting songs on the album and one of his favorites.

1. Clean-shaven!!! No stubble, no hair between his boobs, trimmed underarms, and I like a happy trail but I also love just looking at his smooth tummy. Of course he’s beautiful however he looks though.

2. Hmmm, probably Periscope? Just because I feel like there’s more density of actual content in periscopes, if that makes sense? Like, I do love watching his Twitch streams, but you can only hear “*TWITCH USERNAME* THANK YOU FOR THE 50 BITS” so many times while watching a stream. And Fortnite aggravates my sensory issues, so I don’t watch really watch any of his Fortnite streams unless I’m looking for a specific moment or something. But I love how happy and comfortable he was back in the Twitch era, and I love all his stories, and watching him sing, and play video games (besides Fortnite)!!! I also love comparing how he’s changed since 2015 periscope era with what he says on Twitch. Yes, he’s still a 10-year-old boy, but he really has matured and grown up since then, and I think he feels a lot more secure and confident in himself. Still, Periscope is more fun.

3. MeUndies! Every time I wear them, I’m like, there’s a tiny but possible chance that Brendon Urie and I are wearing the same underwear right now.

4. I don’t think I have a favorite merch item, but I do love the Beebo plush. Unfortunately none of my panic! shirts fit at the moment (damn you, covid weight.), but any of t-shirts with his face on them because duh, he’s beautiful. Ooo I also love the rainbow g/g/b tee.

5. Bogart!!! 💕 I love Bogart more than Brendon to be honest.

6. My inner angsty teenaged-girl heart with always have a soft spot for Ryan Ross, but Nicole seems really cool and talented too.

7. The “correct answer” is that I don’t prefer either one because they’re both facets of the same man, but I do absolutely love the sexy stage persona.

8. I think Bden is really cute, but because I’m lazy I also love the nickname B.

9. Is it basic if I say THROAM? I don’t normally really like Ryden fics on principle, I think normally they’re kinda fetishize-y, and I don’t necessarily think THROAM is an exception, but it’s so nostalgic for me.

bden being completely unaware of how fucking beautiful he is and like complaining about his butt and thighs and lips, etc to ryan and ryan is like ????? bc he thinks b is beautiful, he k n o w s that b is beautiful and he maybe tells him that or something? idk

At first Ryan is surprised at the amount of insecurity that’s welled up in the tiny form of Brendon. He can’t believe the things Brendon complains about. Too thick? Too big a mouth? What the hell is he even talking about? But then the complaining doesn’t stop, the issues, the list of little things that Brendon swears he can’t stand about himself, that grows longer. And Ryan starts to get pissed. It’s no surprise, if you think about it, that they end up screaming at each other from across the room, Brendon shouting about how Ryan should just be with someone else and Ryan snapping that there is no one else, there will never be anyone else, dammit. Now it’s Brendon’s turn to be surprised because he didn’t expect that, and he certainly didn’t expect Ryan to drag him in and hold him tight and whisper how beautiful he thinks Brendon is, how he loves every single thing Brendon seems to hate about himself and sure people are insecure, Ryan’s insecure about shit too, but you can’t let it eat you up until there’s nothing left. And Brendon agrees, though he is shocked that Ryan would admit there are things about himself that he doesn’t like, and they agree that they’ll work on it together. They’ll love each other and themselves, and be all the better for it.

welcome all! make sure to thank @jen--ne--sais--quoi for the existence of these posts because the poor thing asked to know about ryan and now she probably knows more than she ever wanted to!

here in our final chapter, we shall see what ryan has been up to from where we left off in 2015 to as current as we can be as of today (feb 26, 2017) this is mostly links and pictures because he didn’t actually do a whole lot

alright, early 2015. pretty much all ryan ross does is spend time with friends, mostly dan keyes and ryland blackinton. he goes to coachella and looks lovely in his hawaiian shirt. 

he also posted some teasers about making music on instagram, but we saw no new music. 

the most important thing about 2015 is ryan’s beard. 

look at it. it’s glorious. 

in february/march of 2015 zayn has left one direction (this is a ryan ross post, why is she talking about one direction??? it’s relevant, i promise.) someone thought it would be funny to edit the 1d wikipedia page to day that ryan ross had joined the band. 1d fangirls lost their minds. ryan tweeted “ You guys got it all wrong, the four remaining members of One Direction are joining MY band” 

if you look at his twitter throughout 2015, some of the tweets are vastly different than others. it could’ve been him on drugs, it could’ve been shane morris. personally, i think it was more shane, but the other is a possibility. also in june 2015, he got super fucked up and crashed a PHASES show. there are pictures of it out there, but i don’t think it’s really appropriate to share them. i also vaguely remember someone (z maybe?) asking for them to not be shared because ryan was really embarrassed and upset about it. about the incident he said “Def was having too much fun at the Phases show tonight, I promise I'll never do it again  again” so there’s that.

then in july ryro got a girlfriend! he began dating model helena vestergaard and it seemed really good for him. it was certainly good for all of us fans because he posted so much while they were together. she also posted a lot about him. there were so many ryan pictures. it was glorious. here are some pics

then the next most important thing of 2015 happened.

from then on his instagram is pretty much dottie, but none of us mind because she’s precious. 

we also got this monstrosity

that’s all i’m gonna say about that. more helena and dottie pictures. then we get a picture where ryan tells us he’s taking vocal lessons!! and then he posted a teeny clip of a new song!!! more dottie & helena. a video of him learning to box?

don’t forget that this era of ryan likes hockey and baseball. he watches both and plays hockey too. 

halloween 2015. the fucking party. so. you thought we were done talking about brendon urie. we’re not. by 2015, he and ryan are not talking, at all. brendon usually avoids talking about ryan at all. then adam levine (yes, that one) has a halloween party. ryan’s invited because he’s best friends with mickey madden. he goes as a gremlin. well, a mogwai because he’s fuzzy and not scaly, but yeah. 

brendon, dressed as a skeleton and with sarah, was also there. as far as i’m aware, they basically didn’t even talk. brendon goes on to mention it a million times.

btw, by this point ryan doesn’t use his twitter anymore, it’s all just instagram links. there were some tweets earlier in the year that i’ll be talking about in my shane morris companion piece, but basically, shane likes to troll ryan’s fans by tweeting things or posting things on facebook then quickly deleting them.

also in 2015, ryan posts a picture of what seem to be song titles along with promises for making new music (the “shut the fuck up” was in response to someone telling him to go to bed btw) 

we’re now at the end of 2015. it seems like this is when ryan finally disconnects his twitter from his instagram because (except for one) his tweets stop and his instagram continues. he has also dropped shane morris as his manager (thank god)

near the beginning of 2016, ryan tells us that he has written a song for a band called agelast (sadly, that is pronounced ah-gel-ist, not age-last) he posted on both twitter and facebook about this. i’m inclined to believe both posts were actually him, not shane, but who knows. there was this comment on the facebook page that would be nice if it was from him. 

then, also early 2016, he and helena broke up. he was all set to fly to visit her in australia on a long term modeling job, and maybe he did, but that was that on helena vestergaard. she deleted all traces of him from her social media. he continued to play hockey and post pictures of dottie. 

he also bought 5 pounds of sour patch kids, causing all of us to fear for his health. then he starts to become a bit of a recluse. he posts a lot less frequently and it’s usually dottie pictures. 

then he goes to a renaissance fair and saves lives with his look 

easily the most important part of 2016 was when ryan did a surprise performance with dan keyes’ band cologne at emo nite la. it’s everything. EVERYTHING. watch it now. it felt like a nice comeback and he looked GOOD

we also got another tiny song clip. more pictures and videos of dottie. he also modeled some new PHASES merch with Z and Langley 

he went to the beach and we were blessed with this glorious image 

then he turned 30! and jeremy burke & alison harvard threw him a mini party at midnight with pizza! 

also sometime in august, his demo ep was deleted from soundcloud (his whole soundcloud was deleted) along with his site going down and his facebook page being deleted. the only thing we know is actually ryan is his instagram. 

then came halloween. with costumes in the past like et, a sloth, and a gremlin, we knew he would not disappoint. he was link from legend of zelda and he spent a good amount of the party (adam levine’s again, bden was not there) with victoria asher and gabe saporta from cobra starship. have some pics.

then he “drank some blood” in this adorable video with his vocal coach

throughout 2016, a director named dan adams (glitterworldinc on insta) had been tagging ryan in a lot of pictures. i’m going to make a companion piece for him as well, but i’ll mention him here. he posts pictures of ryan, sometimes with strange captions, sometimes with rude captions. many pictures didn’t have ryan in them, but he was tagged. some pictures were of ryan’s house or around echo park. see more about that in the companion piece. lots of speculation went on about what he was doing with ryan. we’ll get to that in a minute. something more exciting now. the longest clip of new music that makes me cry every single time i listen to it, that callback line. (fun fact, z commented on it and called him space boi which is where i get one of my tags for him)

we found out this year that all the things glitterworldinc had been posting are because ryan’s going to be in his new movie!! he’s playing a character named Dewey Parsons in daniel adams’ new movie starmaker

i usually write/imagine b 2-4 inches taller than the reader or other character when i think of height, and the latest had the reader only be 5 feet, but b next to taylor and betty make me crave reading n writing taller!reader n lil b. either she’s 5′10 or taller, or he’s wee, or both, making him at least 2 inches shorter than his sexcapades partner. but i’m thinking 4-5 inch difference. like 5′10 taylor and 5′5 b? or 6 foot amazon n her boy? i feel like i know enough about taylor to write her decently, but i’d have to watch/read/listen to betty to. also, her being curvy n heavy is most likely.

Let’s make Ryan a fairy too because that would be so cute. He’s not very much like the other fairies who are bright and happy and social. He likes keeping to himself and reading, resting under the shade of leaves, and talking to the small animals who know that fairies are kind and safe for them. Brendon knows all about Ryan and has a tiny crush on him (tiny because he also is tiny, but large for someone of his stature) that only seems to grow with each passing day. He wants to show Ryan all of the things he finds each day when he goes out exploring, wants to make him smile bright, wants to hear him laugh. One day, he swears to himself, he really will. That is honestly so sweet though like what if Brendon was Ryan’s guardian angel? He ended up falling in love with Ryan but it’s not like he’s in trouble for it or anything, he just can’t tell Ryan that he’s an angel. He spends a lot of his time with Ryan, and loves doing tiny things to make Ryan’s life easier like making his coffee never go cold (Ryan never does notice, the beautiful, distracted fool) or knowing when to leave so they won’t be late and telling Ryan he’d like to leave by ___o’clock (Ryan’s always fine to leave whenever, and he finds they never do hit traffic when they leave when Brendon wants to) or mending any holes in Ryan’s clothes before he notices
