Theory: The Golden-Skinned Being would've been named Irnakk had the story gone on.
From a meta perspective, Greg only had a limited number of approved names to pull from, and with Bionicle no longer being funded, I imagine this list wouldn't update itself. I don't blame him for reusing names like Artakha or Tren Krom, which were originally introduced during the Mata Nui saga as the names of locations, before retconning them to also be based on actual characters. Constantly referring to the Golden-Skinned Being as such might've gotten old for Greg, understandably.
Not to mention; Irnakk and the GSB share a lot of similarities? Aside from their golden appearances, they're both fusions of the Piraka, from a set and story perspective; Irnakk is a combiner model, the GSB is made from all six. They both have power over dreams, and are revered by the Skakdi before being made real.
Unsurprisingly, a lot of MoCs use Irnakk's spine piece to create the GSB, and in general it's portrayed with a Skakdi spine; Yes, there are technically other people who went into its creation, but they're no-names who appeared out of nowhere for that scene. People mostly recognize the GSB as the culmination of the Piraka, who themselves encountered a fabrication of the mythical Irnakk on Voya Nui. Given Zaktan's whole encounter with Irnakk, it makes sense he and the rest would bring this legend to life a second time.
Greg already gave us Karzahni, the sapient plant, and then Karzahni, the actual character the plant was named after; So the case of two Irnakks seems reasonable, and one could argue the first Irnakk seen in 2006 was technically an extension of the Piraka themselves, being derived from their fear and imagination. So maybe the real Irnakk was the friends they made along the way... In all seriousness, Irnakk was always just a figment of Skakdi imagination; So the GSB, which brings dreams to life, is itself a dream brought to life. For all we know, Irnakk was originally a prophecy, and now it’s come true.

you know, considering how often lewa got possessed and had to be beaten out of it by onua, I'm surprised that the thing that snapped lewa out of tren krom's possession was artakha and not onua just spontaneously appearing out of nowhere to punch lewa out of it because destiny demands it

For anyone curious to how the writing for my Tommy adopts Trent Dino Thunder AU is going, I have quite a bit plotted out and I’m hoping to sit down and get it written over the summer to post early/late fall this year. Rough outline and half formed plot below, long post warning!!
Plot Outline::
Prequel:
I.) Anton and Tommy have a fight about their experiments after the death of their friend “Smitty”
II.) Anton is working on an experiment when the power goes out at the lab. On a hunch he heads towards the lab containing Tommy’s and his latest experiment.
III.) Trent is chased by Tryannadrones through the compound.
IV.) Anton makes it to Tommy’s lab to see the meteorite he and Tommy had been testing cracked open. Anton checks the meteorite over and hisses when he sees the residue from the dino gems. With a yell he transforms into Mesogog and slams his hand against the meteorite, snatches a black glowing gem, and leaves the lab.
V.) Tommy looks up from where he’s running down a darkened corridor when he hears the angered howl. He curses and rounds a corner only to run into Trent. Trent seems terrified and is telling Tommy about the creature chasing him. Tommy asks what he means but from down the hall Tommy sees the Tyrannodrones. He quickly pulls Trent behind him and slowly holds his hand out, trying to command the Tyrannodrones to stand-down but they attack, forcing Tommy to attack.
VI.) As the last Tyrannodrone falls, Tommy and Trent start down the hall only to stop when Mesogog rounds the corner, a loud explosion sounds off somewhere in the distance that causes the building to shake.
VII.) Tommy and Trent are running through the building dodging tyrannodrones and frightened workers that are rushing to escape the explosions.
VIII.) They make it out of the building, Trent pulls on Tommy’s arm and asks about his dad, telling him that he was in his lab when everything started to get weird. Tommy hesitates and promises once he gets Trent to safety that he’ll go back for Anton. Trent refuses as another explosion booms in the distance and the main portion of the building crumbles. Tommy seems to think it over, weighing his options and Trent whispers terrified he lost his real mom and dad and he can’t lose Anton too. Before Tommy can make a decision the Tyrannodrones and Mesogog appear to surround them. Mesogog demands the gems that Tommy stole from the meteorite.
IX.) Tommy puts his hand in his pocket and grips the gems, he knows what’ll happen if he gives the gems up.
X.) Trent watches as the whole of the building explodes with another boom, the ground shaking forcibly, knocking the group to their knees. He screams terrified, watching what’s left of the building burn as debris rains down on them. Trent screams for his dad and tries to run towards the burning ruins but is stopped by Tommy grabbing his arm. Tommy promises he’ll do everything he can to save Anton to which Mesgog laughs Such pretty words you spout, Ranger. Even when they are nothing more than falsities. Tommy narrows his eyes when Mesgog calls him Ranger.
XI.)  Tommy makes his decision and reaches into his other pocket and grabs a fistfull of coins. He tells Mesogog if he wants them so bad to go fetch. He chucks the coins off to the left before pulling Trent with him and taking off towards the coast. He can hear Mesogog shout for the Tyrannodrones to fetch the coins.
XII.) Trent and Tommy dodge more debris from an explosion off to their right and duck under some brush just as a Tyrannodrone pops out in front of them and punches Tommy in the chest. Tommy makes quick work of the Tyrannodrone and forces them to run quicker. Trent is huffing and puffing, trying his best but his legs are getting tired and trips sending him and Tommy to the ground. Tommy carries Trent piggyback and the two continue to the coast.
XIII.) Tommy breaks the tree line and heads towards the cliff just as Mesogog and the Tyrannodrones appear Mesogog tells him that there’s nowhere to go. Tommy asks Trent if he trusts him, Trent hesitates but says yes. Tommy takes a deep breath and a step back like he’s going to jump when the loudest explosion of all detonates behind Mesogo and the Tyrannodrones forcing them forward and Tommy and Trent off the cliff.
XIV.) Tommy hits the water hard and blacks out for just a moment, when he flounders to the surface he sees Trent floating not too far from him he swims over and breathes a sigh of relief when the kid is still alive, just badly bruised. Tommy looks up at the cliff to see smoke rolling in the distance and the lands starting to crumble around him. He pulls Trent close to him and closes his eyes in defeat.
Aftermath::
I.) Trent wakes to see Anton over him, whispering how brave he’d been but that he misses him dearly but he needs to stay with Tommy now, Tommy will protect him from the things he can’t Trent tries to grab onto his dad but pain spikes through his head and he slips back into unconsciousness.
II.) Tommy is with Hailey in the little garden annex at the hospital asking for advice. It’s been two days Trent is still out of it, the island where the lab was is completely gone - vanished and the coast guard can’t find any evidence of the island ever having existed in the first place. Anton is listed as missing and apparently has no next of kin to take care of Trent and then there’s Mesogog. Hailey asks if he thinks Mesogog survived the explosion. Tommy doesn’t think anything could have survived the explosions but knows better than to have such high hopes. Hailey asks what he plans to do and Tommy says he doesn’t know.
III.) Tommy makes his way back towards the hospital when he swears he sees Anton walking towards the lobby. He shouts for Anton and the man looks up for just a second before disappearing out the main doors.
IV.) Tommy gives chase, following what he believes to be Anton but when he rounds the alley across the street from the hospital he’s greeted with three Tyrannodrones. Tommy tries to get the Tyrannodrones once more to stand down but ends up having to defeat them.  He looks around trying to find any sign of Anton or Mesogog but sees nothing.
V.) The next day a social worker is in Trents room talking to Tommy, Apparently with Anton missing and presumed dead, Anton had stated Tommy would be granted custody of Trent in the event of his demise or disappearance. Tommy’s flabbergasted, he asked when this occurred, apparently Anton had made the directive last year after they had discovered the meteorite. The social worker said that if he doesn’t want custody then Trent would be placed into the system.
VI.) Tommy looks at Trent, who peeks up through his bangs hopeful. Tommy doesn’t want that for Trent, the kid has been through enough but with his life Tommy isn’t sure he could provide the stability Trent needs either.
VII.) Tommy and Hailey talk that night about everything. Hailey asks how he’s doing. Tommy isn’t sure, he doesn’t think he’s father material. Hailey disagrees he’s faced down dozens of crazy villains led multiple ranger teams fatherhood is just his next adventure. Besides, didn't he say the Tyrannodrones were camping outside the hospital. Was it possible that they were targeting Trent and if so who better to protect the kid then a ranger? Tommy sighs. He knows he’s going to take Trent in, knew the minute that the social worker said anything, he’s just not sure how this going to go.
VIII.) Trent is released the next day and Tommy brings him to his home. Trent is quiet and withdrawn. Tommy tries to talk to the kid but Trent just hides in the guest room.
IX.) The next day Tommy tries to bring Trent out of his room for breakfast but Trent says he still doesn’t feel good. Tommy just nods and heads back to the kitchen where Hailey is sipping coffee. Hailey says maybe Trent would do with someone who understands his situation. Tommy looks at her, Hailey rolls her eyes and says YOU, you idiot. She says that it might help pull Trent from his grief if he knows he’s not alone. That night Tommy tries to let Trent know that though their circumstances are different Tommy understood and that when he was ready to talk, he’d be there to listen.
X.) Trent waits till Tommy goes to bed that night and sneaks out, he hitchhikes to the beach where Tommy and he were rescued. While on the beach he finds the white dino gem, he picks it up, wide eyed. There’s a sort of static-y feeling that washes over him as he grips the rock tight. A woman’s voice resounds from behind him Trent turns to see a black haired woman wearing dark makeup standing not far from him. She snaps her fingers and Tyrannodrones appear from seemingly nowhere. She tells him to not make things hard and just come with them. Trent turns and runs, tripping and kicking up sand in his haste to get away.
XI.) Tommy wakes in the middle of the night to the phone in his house ringing. He answers it to hear Trent’s scared voice telling him someone is chasing him and he doesn’t know what to do. Tommy tries to get a location out of him but the phone call ends with a woman saying there you are and Trent shouting in pain.
XII.) Tommy is on his cell phone with Hailey, the two of them working to find Trent. Hailey said she’s picking up some weird energy fluctuations down by the beach. Tommy drives as quickly as possible to the beach, mind working overtime on what the heck is going on. He turns onto the boardwalk only to slam into a Tyrannodrone with his car. Tommy hops out looking around to see Trent being held by a woman, he makes a move forward the same time Trent bites the hand of the person holding him and stomps on her foot, forcing her to let him go. Tommy shouts for Trent and the woman turns.
XIII.) Elsa (the woman with Trent) narrows her eyes and snaps her fingers, sending the Tyrannodrones to attack Tommy while she turns back to Trent. Tommy sighs and makes quick work of the lackeys and then heads towards Trent, only to see something white flash between Trent and the unknown woman. He shouts for Trent as the two are blasted apart from each other, Trent hitting the boardwalk railing and Elsa slamming into a booth.
XIV.) Tommy checks on Trent and turns as Elsa gets up fist clenched with a smile on her face. She says while not the turnout she was hoping for still an amazing outcome and then disappears. Tommy turns to check on Trent who is coming around with a groan as the sun starts to peak over the horizon.
XVI.) Later that morning Tommy is at home with Trent talking about everything and Trent asks Tommy if he can learn to fight like him. Tommy is hesitant but says yes, asking why. Trent says the lady that was chasing him said that Mesogog was the reason for his fathers passing. He wants to be ready in case Mesogog or that lady come back. Tommy asks what Elsa even wanted, Trent says she wanted him to go with her but that she was more interested in the white rock he’d found. Tommy blinks and thinks back to the gems he has in his safe down in the basement. He promises Trent he’ll protect him. Trent says he wants to be able to protect himself and those he cares about.
Forever Red::
I.) It’s been two years since the island exploded and Tommy and Trent are on vacation in Angel Grove after Trent begged to hear more about the history of the Power Rangers. Tommy is showing him the old Juice Bar that is now a Coffee Bistro and Internet Cafe owned by Bulk and Skull ( who are currently trying to one up one another with Trent on their Ranger dealings) when something makes a sound from inside his wallet in his pocket. Tommy looks surprised and quickly pulls out what appears to be a small and worn looking watch. Tommy looks around before turning to Bulk and Skull. He tells them to keep an eye on Trent, who groans in annoyance.
II.) Tommy locks the bathroom door to the coffee shop and pulls his communicator out. It’s Andros who sounds perturbed. He tells Tommy they need to meet somewhere safe and quickly. It’s about Serpentera. Tommy runs his hands over his face and sighs. He tells Andros to meet him in Angel Grove at the Sozo Coffee shop. Andros says he’ll be there in 30.
III.) Tommy quickly has Bulk and Skull clear out the coffee shop, closing the store for the rest of the afternoon. Andros arrives with video proof of his concerns. He tells Tommy about how he’d been worried about the fall of the machine empire. He’d been tailing Venjix for quite a few years worried they might be trying to rebuild their empire but he couldn’t get the proof he needed. He tells Tommy Venjix found Serpentera and is working on resurrecting the Zord to what end he can only guess. Tommy asks Andros if he’s told anyone else about this. Andros says he sent a call out to Carter but he hasn’t heard back yet. Tommy says try again and gather everyone else. He has a few calls of his own to make.
IV.) The next day sees Trent with Bulk and Skull sitting at the “kids table” while Tommy is on the phone sounding tense and just this side of aggravated. Trent watches him with a curious gaze before turning back to Bulk and Skull with a questioning look. Bulk explains that Tommy and Jason– the person he’s on the phone with– had a falling out of sorts after their time as rangers. Trent hums and watches as Tommy growls and hangs the phone up, he asks if somethings wrong and Tommy just sighs.
V.) Andros arrives later that day with Leo in tow saying that Carter is heading out to retrieve Cole – the newest red ranger  – and Wes and Eric. T.J is en route and Aurico has yet to return his communication. Tommy says he’s had some trouble on his end but at least NASADA has agreed to loan them the air space they need without any trouble. Andros explains that time is of the essence and that they need a plan because waiting for the defensive is not an option. Tommy agress.
VI.) .....To be added
Shattered Grid Interlude::
I.) Tommy is watching Trent compete in his first Taekwondo tournament in Fresno, he’s giving Trent a pep talk before his fight when a woman across the convention center catches Tommy’s eye. Trent asks if Tommy is okay after turning to look over the center floor but sees nothing. Tommy assures Trent it’s fine and wishes him well when the announcer calls for both fighters to the floor.
II.) Tommy feels weird but cheers Trent on when he feels strange eyes on him again he turns to see the strange woman eyeing him again but ignores it and jumps for joy when Trent wins. Trent (13 years old) runs over and hugs Tommy excitedly boasting about his big win. Tommy looks out to where he feels the strange feeling and sees a flash of pink in the crowd.
III.) Later that night Tommy wakes to the sound of the floor boards creaking. He gets up and sneaks his way through the house to see the shadow of someone walking across the living area to his office. Trent sneaks up behind him and scares Tommy. Tommy tells Trent to go hide in lair but Trent just rolls his eyes and hangs close.

In El Paso, Migrants With Nowhere to Go Strain a Welcoming City (NYT) The city of El Paso, a West Texas way station long accustomed to migrants arriving from Mexico, has begun to buckle under the pressure of thousands upon thousands of people coming over the border, day after day. The usual shelters have been filled. So too have the hundreds of hotel rooms wrangled by the city to house migrants. A new city-run shelter opened over the weekend in a recreational center, and rapidly filled all of its roughly 400 beds. Another shelter is planned in a vacant middle school. Mayor Oscar Leeser said over the weekend that the city had reached a “breaking point” and was no longer able to help all the migrants on its own. He welcomed the buses, chartered by the administration of Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas, that once again began carrying hundreds of migrants out of the city to Denver, Chicago or New York. The mayor said he was seeking millions of dollars in additional aid from the Biden administration. The strain felt in El Paso, a traditionally welcoming border town, reflected a situation that has become increasingly untenable for communities up and down the U.S. border with Mexico. After months of relative calm, a new wave of migrant arrivals, mostly from Venezuela but also from other countries in South America, Africa and elsewhere, is taxing the available services in cities and small towns from Texas to California.
Two days left (NYT) Two basic facts are central to understanding why the federal government may shut down on Sunday morning: First, the House Republican caucus contains about 20 hard-right members who sometimes support radical measures to get what they want. Many of them refused to certify the 2020 presidential election, for example, and now favor impeaching President Biden. They also tend to support deep cuts to federal spending, and they’re willing to shut down the government as a negotiating tactic. “This is a whole new concept of individuals that just want to burn the whole place down,” House Speaker Kevin McCarthy—a fellow Republican—said last week. Second, the Republicans’ House majority is so slim that McCarthy needs the support of most of these roughly 20 members to remain speaker. If he passes a bill to fund the government and keep it open without support from the hard-right faction, it can retaliate by calling for a new vote on his speakership and potentially firing him. Nobody knows who would then become speaker. This combination has created a strange situation in Washington. Most House members—along with President Biden—want to avoid a shutdown. So does the Senate: A bipartisan group agreed this week on a spending bill that would keep the government open through mid-November. A similar bill could probably pass the House by a wide margin if it came to the floor. Yet the small Republican faction has enough sway over McCarthy that he has resisted allowing a vote on such a bill. As a result, much of the federal government may shut down this weekend.
Troops stormed a prison. They found inmates had built a luxury resort. (Washington Post) When 11,000 soldiers and police officers stormed Venezuela’s Tocorón prison this month, they discovered a professional baseball field, swimming pools, children’s play equipment—even a small zoo, with monkeys and flamingos. They also found concrete tunnels in and out, just like in the onetime Mexican prison home of the Sinaloa cartel leader Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. And 200 women and children, living on the grounds. What they didn’t find was Tocorón’s most notorious inmate: Héctor “El Niño” Guerrero. Guerrero, 39, heads Tren de Aragua, a criminal organization spawned in the prison that has spread across Latin America with the Venezuelan diaspora—its principal victims. Now authorities not only in Venezuela, but also Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Chile, are hunting for the fugitive. Interpol has issued a Red Notice seeking his capture. And critics are asking how his gang managed to turn the prison into a luxury resort. Renato Rivera, an analyst in Ecuador who focuses on organized crime, said the search for Guerrero “is revealing just how vulnerable and permeable our countries’ land borders are.”
Rising poverty grips Argentina as runaway inflation takes its toll (AP) With tired faces, residents of a homeless shelter in Argentina’s capital pass through the main entrance and line up to receive a hot drink and a slice of cake for an afternoon snack. Places like the Bepo Ghezzi Social Inclusion Center in the Parque Patricios neighborhood of Buenos Aires have seen demand soar as more people are struggling to make ends meet amid an annual inflation rate above 100%. The portion of Argentines living in poverty reached 40.1% in the first six months of the year, according to figures released Wednesday by the government’s INDEC statistics agency. That is up from 39.2% in the second half of 2022. For much of the 20th century, Argentina showed a social mobility dynamic that gave rise to a large middle class and made the country stand out in the region. But the good times derailed, and poverty has remained firmly above 25% the last two decades as the South American country stays mired in economic malaise. Prices soared 124.4% during the 12-month period through Aug. 31.
Deadly violence in Sweden (AP) Three people were killed overnight in separate incidents in Sweden as deadly violence linked to a feud between criminal gangs escalated. Late Wednesday, an 18-year-old man was shot dead in a Stockholm suburb. Hours later, a man was killed and another was wounded in a shooting in Jordbro, south of the Swedish capital. Early Thursday a woman in her 20s died in an explosion in Uppsala, west of Stockholm. Swedish broadcaster SVT noted that the two fatal shootings brings the death toll from gun violence in September to 11, making it the deadliest month for shootings since police started keeping statistics in 2016. Swedish media said at least two of the three events were somehow connected to a feud between criminal gangs, a growing problem in Sweden with drive-by shootings and bombings. Two gangs—one led by a Swedish-Turkish dual national who lives in Turkey, the other by his former lieutenant—are reportedly fighting over drugs and weapons.
Long a city that embraced cars, Paris is seeing bike-lane traffic jams (AP) It’s rush hour on Paris’ Sébastopol Boulevard, and the congestion is severe—not just gas-guzzling, pollution-spewing, horn-honking snarls but also quieter and greener bottlenecks of cyclists jockeying for space. Until four years ago, motorists largely had the Paris thoroughfare to themselves. Now, its bike-lane jams speak to a cycling revolution that is reshaping the capital of France—long a country of car-lovers, home to Renault, Citroen and Peugeot. This revolution, like others, is also proving choppy. A nearly decade-long drive by Socialist Mayor Anne Hidalgo to turn Paris from a city hostile for cyclists into one where they venture more safely and freely has become so transformative that bikes are steadily muscling aside motor vehicles and increasingly getting in each other’s way. Already, on some Paris boulevards, bikes outnumber cars at peak times.
Europeans are the world’s heaviest drinkers—is Gen Z breaking the habit? (Worldcrunch) From Irish whisky to French wine to German beer, Europe has long been known for alcohol consumption. But that may be starting to change, especially among Gen Z Europeans, who are increasingly drinking less or opting out entirely, out of concern for their health or problematic alcohol use. In Germany, which has the world’s seventh-highest consumption of beer per capita, non-alcoholic beer has exploded in popularity among those looking to live a healthier lifestyle. Though the land of Oktoberfest and Biergartens remains one of the highest consumers of alcohol worldwide, Germans’ average consumption of beer has drastically decreased. In 2022, Germans drank an average of 87.2 liters of beer per year, compared to nearly 100 liters 10 years earlier. Brewers have responded to the changing market, and are developing a wider variety of non-alcoholic beverages than ever before. Since 2007, the production of non-alcoholic beers, which can contain at most 0.5% alcohol, has doubled, according to Les Echos. In Germany, the beverages account for 7% of the beer market, and are expected to take off in the years to come.
Armenian exodus continues (Washington Post) The exodus continues. In a matter of days, roughly half of the ethnic Armenian population of the highland enclave Nagorno-Karabakh have now fled their homes to nearby Armenia. They lived for decades in isolation and de facto independence within the territory of Azerbaijan, but a surprise offensive last week by Azerbaijani forces swiftly overwhelmed the mismatched defenders of the unrecognized republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, known to Armenians as Artsakh, and triggered a new wave of displacement in a part of the world that has witnessed generations of ethnic strife and forced population transfers. My colleagues on the ground along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border reported Wednesday that some 47,000 people of Nagorno-Karabakh’s more than 100,000-strong population had already crossed into Armenia. They were crammed into trucks and cars, their possessions piled high. Many more are expected to follow them.
Bengaluru’s growth (Bloomberg) As recently as 30 years ago, Bengaluru was known as a sleepy place where well-heeled Indians chose to retire. Almost 200 lakes were linked by countless canals, low-rise cottages clustered in parklike neighborhoods, and it was easy to bike wherever you needed to go. Now, the heart of India’s tech boom is a metropolis. India’s $194 billion IT services industry has made it the the Silicon Valley of the subcontinent—the population has more than tripled since 1990 to 13 million. In the 1970s, the tree canopy covered about 70% of Bengaluru; today it’s less than 3%. And navigation software developer TomTom last year ranked the city as the most traffic-clogged place in India—and No. 5 worldwide.
Israelis can travel to U.S. without a visa by Nov. 30 (Washington Post) The Biden administration announced Wednesday that it will allow Israeli travelers to come to the United States without a visa, a coveted status that was given in exchange for the Israeli government dropping long-standing travel restrictions on Palestinian Americans and other Americans of Arab and Muslim descent. Israel’s entry into the Visa Waiver Program has been a top priority for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his predecessor, Naftali Bennett. The country had never been granted access because it refused entry to many Palestinian Americans at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport, forcing them to fly to Jordan and then travel overland into the West Bank. In July, Israel agreed to open Ben Gurion Airport to all Americans regardless of their origin in a bid to prove it is committed to its side of the deal. Since then, tens of thousands of Palestinian Americans have flown to Israel successfully, U.S. officials say, been granted visas and access to move around Israeli territory in a way that they haven’t been able to do for decades.
Once Inconceivable, Officials’ Visits Highlight Warming Saudi-Israeli Ties (NYT) Parallel visits this week by an Israeli minister to Saudi Arabia and a Saudi envoy to the Israeli-occupied West Bank have highlighted the fast-warming ties between the Jewish state and the most powerful Arab country. In the first-ever public visit by an Israeli minister to the Arab kingdom, Haim Katz, the Israeli tourism minister, attended a multilateral tourism conference in Riyadh on Tuesday and Wednesday that was organized by the United Nations. Simultaneously, the Saudi ambassador to the Palestinians, Naif al-Sudairi, traveled through an Israeli border checkpoint to visit the West Bank, where he met with the leaders of the Palestinian Authority, the organization that administers just under 40 percent of the Israeli-controlled territory. Experts said the visit by Mr. Sudairi, who is based in neighboring Jordan, was the first known visit by a Saudi official to the region since Israel captured it from Jordan in the 1967 war between Israel and its Arab neighbors. Inconceivable for most of Israel’s history, the two visits symbolized how Israel and Saudi Arabia are gradually setting the stage for the formalization of their relationship, amid escalating efforts by the United States to broker a deal between the two countries.

Clase 17
“I think it's a great honor to win an Oscar but I think if you aim to be rewarded in your life you'll get nowhere. I think that the biggest reward is the work itself and what you get out of it and the connections you make with other people.”
— Natalie Portman
˚༘ ʚ♡⃛ʚ
Mejor actor: Brendan Fraser (La ballena)
Mejores efectos visuales: Avatar: The way of water
Dentro de esta categoría, es muy evidente que Avatar tiene alta posibilidades de ganar, debido a que es una película que le tomó años al director llevar a cabo, por lo que todas las animaciones son revolucionarias para el cine.

Lewa, stuck on Bota Magna: Oh, this is- this is nice, I, uh- This is the end, okay... Where exactly am I?! Um... Oh, grea- here's the song, oh good. Uhmmm, there's some things that are still unresolved here, guys! How- How do I get home? Ah- what do I eat?? Who was killing all those powerful creatures like Tren Krom or Karzhani? or... hell- was this all in my mind? Did Red Star truly host those who died or were they just living corpses? What- What's a Great Being? Is that- sort of a Freudian... thing, er... um... am I real? Oh, hell- do the Gukko Bird patrols run through here? I mean, I'd like to go home now, but, um... oh, God, where's home? Okay, okay, okay. I mustn't run away, I mustn't... Okay I got that, good, okay. Now, if I were to run away, let's analyze that—where the fuck would I go?! I'm on a big green jungle!! Uhh, is this how you end a series? I mean, is this- where we go from here? Okay, the serials better sure as hell make up for this, I'm telling ya right now, 'cause I'm stuck in nowhere-land... Wait the serials were cancelled and LEGO stopped caring for the series all together. You bastards.

Tumblr media
01 - Entrada by El Pedersen
Olé! A solid little introduction that exudes a lovely 90s aura. Sweet, short and with comprehensive and satisfying secrets, as well as well-established combat with a good difficulty curve. 3/5
Tumblr media
02 - Salas de Debajo by El Pedersen
Rustic and simple, but effective and well designed to offer a classic experience without effective problems. Small map that will make us enjoy well. 3/5
Tumblr media
03 - Las Vias del Tren by South American McGee
A thematic change that reminds me slightly of the old west. This is a small map that expands the complexity a bit more and gives us a quite entertaining layout with a balanced gameplay that grows little by little. 3/5
Tumblr media
04 - El Foco by Sal Verde
A kind of level designed around drains. The Focus is a classic tribute to Doom 2 maps that like to use dirty water. 3/5
Tumblr media
05 - Los Tuneles de Residuos by South American McGee
As a direct continuation of the previous map, but this time it opens up a more expansive design and delivers a little more variety in terms of combat, expanding the average duration by a few minutes. 3/5
Tumblr media
06 - La Trituradora by South American McGee
South American McGee is among my favorite developed Doom, and this map is a good example of it. Fast, intense and in constant movement. The action never ends and the flow is incredible. Totally fun, that added to the fantastic MIDI makes me want to shout olé! 4/5
Tumblr media
07 - Facil de Muertos by El Pedersen
Abstract and with a complex path system but never breaks flow. It is one of those maps that despite having some complexity / depth, follow a route so clear that the combat never stops and the fun is always a great luxury to enjoy. With intense combat based on traps, the gameplay is as dynamic as it is fascinating. Totally fun and admirable. The Pedersen knows! 4/5
Tumblr media
08 - Trucos y Trampas by Sal Verde
Not so many traps and tricks, but a lot of acid and a few surprises here and there. A simple level that can be a bit confusing at times when you get to the last key, but it stays solid and presents a good balance. 3/5
Tumblr media
09 - El Pozo by El Pedersen
Deep and with a few surprises. The well increases the difficulty a bit by giving us some more tactical challenges that will require prior preparation, at least slightly. It is a short map, simple but with an entertaining flow although a bit bland to see. 3/5

End.
Overall:
» Welcome, to an imaginary world where Doom is not a release made by a bunch of American nerds, but was actually released by a bunch of Spanish programmers! Delivering us one of the best cult games in history, highly inspired by the geography of Spain and carrying with it a cultural value as epic as it is magnificent. Not really. But it was made by Juan Romero, so that's epic.Doom 2 in Spain Only is, in one way or another, a mesmerizing megawad released entirely for Spain (and the world) and created by a group of Spanish guys. Supposedly. It certainly has a pretty funny, unexpected and mysterious context. This megawad came out of nowhere and took the world by storm with a classic megawad that re-imagines the classic Doom 2 maps in a new, more Hispanic context. Most of the maps, for example, bring direct or ''bad'' translations of their original names, and of course, we can see how the names of the original authors have been modified in order to bring the blood of Spanish speakers inside. Juan Romero? Somebody give him a Cacoward for the best name. So, what was once Sandy Petersen is now the Pedersen, or what was once the Icon of Sin, is now the Evil Logo. If you know Spanish, reading these names becomes part of the experience and I'm sure it will give you more than a few laughs as it did me. The sheer charisma of the idea makes this a great touch of unexpected comedy that deserves applause for the simple idea of establishing a new yet old trend, encapsulating the best of two worlds: Spanish and ''Re-imagine Doom for the nine hundredth time''. A simple concept but one that works very well under the right circumstances. From the cool titlepic to the end of the megawad when we get the ridiculously weird surprise. Spoiler: It involves mariachis. Spoiler: Those are from Mexico. As we can expect from a megawad that seeks to re-imagine the classic Doom, what we have here is a vanilla-compatible project that follows a similar scheme to the original, but changing the theme to deliver a direct translation of the names of each map to the design. So the resupply base will finally be a resupply base, and the Icon of Sin is, well, a real sin logo. It's little touches like these that deliver a solid experience, that coupled with a good vanilla map design that gets its priorities straight. The first maps follow a classic formula but deliver a slightly more urban feel, while the final ones evolve into a hellish nightmare that also contains a bit of architectural realism. The style of each map tries to evoke a bit the idea of Spanish architecture, but in a simple and modest way, of course. Part of the story takes place in Madrid so we can expect a few vague influences here and there, such as a bull rising in the skybox. A nice surprise, comical and interesting at the same time. Not bad at all! Of course, each map will follow this kind of structure so at times you may feel like you're walking through the same map over and over again. At times the design can feel a bit bland on some maps, and at times a bit lost, but there is no map that is truly bad. A select few will stand out for their unique style and introduction of interesting concepts, as well as well-balanced combat with a vanilla factor that tastes great. If you like olé, you'll probably like this, and if you like Doom 2, you'll probably like this too, and of course, if you like vanilla, then you'll love this. A classic example of a megawad that reimagines Doom 2 under a crazy but solid concept, giving us an interesting, funny and full of funny little references that fill the spirit with laughter. While the map design itself is serious, the charisma it brings lightens the concept and makes us enjoy it in a pleasant way. Olé!

Reading Through the First Half of 2018
The reading of books (beyond news and long-form journalism), has become a critical part of my adult life and is integral to the way I order my mind. Reading helps me formulate my opinions, create a sense of solitude, learn specific technical knowledge, and entertain myself. I enjoyed reading as a child and spent more than my fair share of time ripping through Hardy Boys mysteries, getting creeped out by the slimy details of the latest Goosebumps novel, reading YA biographies of so many great Black soldiers, engineers, and thinkers, and soaking in every detail of any book on soccer or drawing I could get my hands on. But my appreciation for reading as a dedicated and intentional practice grew significantly after I graduated from college. I learned that it’s actually not something many adults spend a great deal of time on (Pew Research), and is something that can serve to significantly distinguish and shape an individual. Reading books gives one a chance to form their own mind by directing their thinking, rather than having their brain completely subject to the whims of the loudest noises of the outside world.
In 2014 I worked on the first Congressional campaign for Don Beyer, who is now my representative in the US House (VA-08). In the general election campaign I ended up in the position of Deputy Finance Director, and found myself shut in a room with the candidate for several hours a day making phone calls to ask people for money. I learned many things from this experience, perhaps chief among them was the fact that Don was an incredible reader. He seemed to know at least something about everything, and had read an incredible number of books over the years. He could easily isolate the most important ideas from each book and use them effectively in conversation, while accurately citing the references. And in addition to this great historic recall, he was always reading something new, just about a book a week, and this was while he was running for congress (which, if you didn’t know, is an extraordinarily time-consuming pursuit). This showed me just how much importance he placed on the practice of reading and on the pursuit of new information.
For the last few years I’ve set reading goals for myself at the start of the year, and have recorded my progress on Goodreads with their annual “Reading Challenge” feature. I highly recommend using Goodreads if you enjoy books! For 2018 I set a goal of completing a total of 40 books (35 last year, 25 the year before that, 52 next year!). I’ve kept good pace and have reached the halfway point just before the middle of the year. I wrote a post about my 2017 reading at the end of last year, and was considering doing the same for 2018, but breaking it in half seemed like a much more manageable task. There are many books that I start but never finish, and some really big books that I may break into two or three spurts throughout the year - but here are the 20 books I’ve completed so far in 2018:
Meditations, by Marcus Aurelius - A Christmas gift from my girlfriend, I sought this book out because of the amazing amount of recommendations I’d seen, particularly from people in the technology and finance worlds. An emperor of Rome, Aurelius was an extremely powerful and thoughtful person. This book is essentially a compilation of his journals as emperor and includes his thoughts as a Stoic philosopher, as a leader, and as a man. Highly recommend to anyone looking for some words of wisdom or who has found herself in the midst of a seemingly uncontrollable situation.
“Men seek retreats for themselves, houses in the country, sea-shores, and mountains; and thou too art wont to desire such things very much. But this is altogether a mark of the most common sort of men, for it is in thy power whenever thou shalt choose to retire into thyself. For nowhere either with more quiet or more freedom from trouble does a man retire than into his own soul, particularly when he has within him such thoughts that by looking into them he is immediately in perfect tranquility; and I affirm that tranquility is nothing else than the good ordering of the mind.”
Hedge Funds: An Analytic Perspective, by Andrew Lo
The Underwriting, by Michelle Miller - Not my normal reading fare, but one of my most memorable selections of the year. A totally trashy, salacious novel about the IPO process of a fictional Silicon Valley dating app unicorn written by a Wall Street and Bay area veteran. If you don’t want to take the time to pick up the book then you should check out her infamous blog Why San Francisco Really Is That Bad, which caused a huge stir when she released in anonymously in 2012.
Getting to YES: Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In, by Roger Fisher & William Ury
Steve Jobs, by Walter Isaacson - A reread. I first read this book when the paperback edition was initially published in 2013.
Principles: Life and Work, by Ray Dalio
Tribe of Mentors, by Tim Ferriss
Charlie Munger: The Complete Investor, by Tren Griffin - Charlie Munger is an irreverent and original thinker, a brilliant investor and businessman, and a voracious reader. While little knows beyond the world of of finance, he is a giant within it. He’s the Vice-Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway. This book distills his investing ethos and describes his famous “mental models” mainly through Mungers own quotations, which are well worth the price of admission.
“You've got to have models in your head. And you've got to array your experience—both vicarious and direct—on this latticework of models. You may have noticed students who just try to remember and pound back what is remembered. Well, they fail in school and in life. You've got to hang experience on a latticework of models in your head.”
The Hard Thing About Hard Things, by Ben Horowitz
Becoming Steve Jobs: The Evolution of a Reckless Upstart into a Visionary Leader, by Brent Schlender and Rick Tetzeli - After I reread the Isaacson, book I was hungry for a bit more information on Jobs, particularly his time in the wilderness with NEXT. I sent a Tweet out communicating as much and immediately received a response from my Jobs crazy colleague who recommended this book and other, and subsequently brought the book into the office for me to borrow. This did not disappoint. It may eclipse, but definitely rivals the Isaacson book as the definitive Jobs biography in my opinion.
Surely You’re Joking Mister Feynman!: Adventures of a Curious Character, by Richard Feynman - A pretty amusing book by and about the life of an extremely interesting character. Ranges from his experience designing the bomb at Los Alamos to his experience as an amateur bongo player. Highly recommended by a lot of smart people.
Flow, by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
eBoys: The First Inside Account of Venture Capitalists at Work, by Randall E. Stross - Not the biggest crowd pleaser on the list, but if you are particularly interested in venture capital, this is a must read. A 2000 business biography of the founding and early days of Benchmark, this book goes in depth on the personalities around the table, the details around their decisions, and even their responses to investments gone bad. An absolute must for any VC junkie.
aol.com, by Kara Swisher - Love Swisher, so when I came across this at a used bookstore, I snapped it up.
Measure What Matters, by John Doerr
Hackers & Painters: Big Ideas From the Computer Age, by Paul Graham - Paul Graham’s essays, more than the work of any other individual, are responsible for my love of startup culture and tech investing.
Inside Steve’s Brain, by Leander Kahney
American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History, by Chris Kyle - If you’ve seen the Clint Eastwood movie then you should maybe take the time to read the book. It’s relatively short, simply and clearly written, and has next to nothing to do with story of the movie. A lot of really interesting technical information about military practices and weaponry.
Bobby Kennedy: A Raging Spirit, by Chris Matthews - Bobby Kennedy is a personal hero of mine, and I also loved Matthews’ book Hardball, which I was assigned to read in high school, so I knew I had to read this when it was published late last year. An excellent option if you have never read a book on RFK and want to try and get a good overall picture of the man. 50 years on from his death, I imagine there are many people for whom this new book was perfect. I’ve read a number of books on RFK and the Kennedy family and didn’t get much new information from this, but I did still enjoy reading the more personal perspectives and reflections offered by Matthews.
A Sense of Where You Are: Bill Bradley at Princeton, by John McPhee - I listened to an episode of the great podcast The Axe Files that featured Senator Bill Bradley. In the discussion they mention this book. It profiles Bradley when he was still just a college student and basketball player. I knew a little bit about Bradley as he has been a great mentor to my boss, and I was extremely intrigued by the idea of a book written about someone so early in his life. The book is all about basketball and through the sport gives a good bit of insight into the standout student athlete and who he would come to be.
“He went on to say that it is a much simpler shot than it appears to be, and, to illustrate, he tossed a ball over his shoulder and into the basket while he was talking and looking me in the eye. I retrieved the ball and handed it back to him. ‘When you have played basketball for a while, you don’t need to look at the basket when you are in close like this,’ he said, throwing it over his shoulder again and right through the hoop. ‘You develop a sense of where you are.’”
