Let me briefly explain the diagram.

Initially, when civilization in the sea was just being infected, the sea serpentine tribes and the Nyad's tribe lived at the bottom of the ocean in more northern and colder waters. Naturally, there were many sea Serpentine clans, so there was enmity. It was at this time that the tribes united under the leadership of the ancestors of Trimaar and the Shark dynasty. Then the events with Vojira. As a result, in the final unification, the second dynasty of Sharks was overthrown and expelled from the settlement. However, it was there that the Nyad's tribe lived, naturally after her death. (I haven't come up with a name yet, so I'll call it that for now.) As a result of which, over the generations, there was a mixture of blood and genes, so, in fact, the purebred Nyad species no longer exists.

But there is Bentomaar and my shark!OC. They have different ancestral traits. Also, the Bento family lived in warm waters closer to Merlotopia, so the appearance is more different.

And a couple of notes:

The canon doesn't seem to say what race the Bentomaar belongs to.

However, it was more human genetics that turned out to be the descendants (masters of water) to be people. And yes, then I left the fact that Nyad is Nya's ancestor, and not as the writers came up with.

+We don't see anything completely like her race. But her skin/scale patterns are similar to Bento's patterns that the others don't have. So the proximity of species is possible.

I wonder if Trimaar just found Bentho they day he was born, or at least not long after, I was reading up on sharks, and the moms don't take care of their young, so Bentho could've just had terrible luck, that is if his species works like sharks and just ditch their young/where never there for them.

aaaaaaaaaa finally came up w a name for this AU!! i love benthomaar so much and i absolutely feel like he should've played a bigger part following the aftermath of nya's sacrifice . so he is staying with the ninja for now

After witnessing the deaths of both his father and brother, and subsequently the sacrifice of his closest friend, he felt the need to stick around with his new family, feeling that his poor state of mind would only hurt him and his subjects if he were to return to Merlopia as king.

Benthomaar holds a lot of guilt inside himself for the deaths of not just Trimaar and Kalmaar, but Nya too. After failing to dissuade her from merging with the sea as her namesake, Nyad, once did, he was left feeling like the circumstances of her sacrifice could have been easily avoidable had he chosen to just stay quiet. Despite the instances of the past few weeks leaving Bentho imbued with remorse, he still does his best to provide support and motivation for the ninja while they mourn the loss of their teammate, trying his best to act as the "glue" that holds the team together as Nya once did.

Benthomaar stays a close friend of Jay's after Nya's passing, and they manage to bond over their similar upbringings and shared admiration for Nya's selflessness. While Jay's depressive state only continues to worsen, having a friend in Bentho provides him with some semblance of comfort in the face of uncertainty, and Benthomaar, along with Cole, is often there to de-escalate otherwise unpredictable altercations between Jay and the other ninja when things get heated.

Returning to Merlopia still proves to be a great fear for Bentho. With his brother's figurative blood on his hands, he feels as though he has disgraced himself and is still reluctant to assume the role of king, despite the inhabitants of his kingdom now being aware of the circumstances of the late Trimaar's death.
