ALWAYS! It might take me a while to get round to them sometimes but I absolutely love replying to comments. I always appreciate that someone has taken the time to leave one and I love giving the same energy back.

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Definitely timeless.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I’m a sucker for a happy ending so this is hard to choose but I think A Sticky Situation or letters we never sent are the most lighthearted.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Fortunately not. Every once in a while I’ll get a passive aggressive comment from someone who doesn’t like the direction a story is going. (Usually when things are more complex than ‘kiss and make up straight away’.) But it doesn’t bother me.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Love to write smut. Smut is one of the best vehicles for character exploration and introspection in my opinion. The thoughts, movements, feelings that a person has in a moment of intimacy are so fascinating to me and are a great way to ‘get to know’ the character, so to speak. Also?? It’s hot???

10. Do you write crossovers?

No, but I’d love to try one day!

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of!

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Not yet!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

spotlights and moonlight (w @seek--rest) is my first ever collab and it’s been very very fun so far. Look forward to doing more co-writing in the future.

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

None! chiaroscuro, glitch, across the hall, and spotlights and moonlight are my only posted WIPs and I have plans to finish all of them!

16. What are your writing strengths?

Two I can think of—one that I believe about myself and another that people tend to tell me. In my opinion, I think I’m good at character building, at doing a deep dive into a character’s psyche and fleshing them out so that they feel like a real person in a real world. Other people often tell me that my writing is immersive and easy to picture/imagine—almost like watching a show or movie.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I can often be a very dense writer—which means word counts can get away from me and things can be overly descriptive which I imagine some readers might find boring.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Never tried it! The only language I would be able to try would be French but don’t have any plans to right now!

19. First fandom you wrote for?

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

This is a horrible question and the answer would change every day but I’ll give one per fandom: timeless (Spider-Man), Bad Days (TFATWS), 106 miles (The Bear).

My #1 post of 2022

Do you ever see a take so bad it makes you viscerally react to it? like imagine watching nwh, hell the whole home trilogy, and your only takeaway is that MJ was a “useless, boring character” or that she did nothing to help Peter?? Sorry you can't understand the fact that people don't need to have powers to help someone?

Because can we talk about this scene? 

Peter is wrought with guilt after everything that’s just happened. MJ holds his face as she tells him “we’re gonna get through this and we’re gonna get through this together.” She holds his hand. She comforts him. She just sits with him. 

It’s not always about being able to fight. It’s about emotional support. It’s about helping your friend/lover stay true to themselves even in moments of wild grief and anger. 

The other two spideys show up at first to SUPPORT PETER. Not to fight.

So many times throughout this movie, Peter’s loved ones (May, Ned, AND MJ) keep him grounded when everything is falling apart. 

if you honestly can’t see how important that is to Peter and you think it’s just about being a good sidekick, then you don’t understand the character.

MJ does this throughout the entire movie, and it’s from the very beginning; right after the identity reveal in the crowd, at Peter's apartment, on video chat, on the roof. And that's just in the first twenty or so minutes. 

She becomes the optimism he needs and makes him hope when he becomes jaded after May’s death. 

there is no Spider-Man without the people he loves and the impact they've had on him. And in the MCU, there is no Spider-Man without MJ, Ned, and May. Even with the ending, Peter carries May's moral compass, kind heart, and sense of responsibility; Ned's loyalty and humor; and Michelle's love and optimism, forward with him. He's able to continue being Spider-Man at the end because of May's words to him and because Ned and MJ are okay.

And I don’t even wanna get into the whole “MJ Watson’s not coming back/oh well she lost her memories!!” thing bc that itself is a post for another time.

where did you learn to write smut? or do you have any fic/book recs bc you are the first author i’ve read who hits all my buttons just right 🙈

Listen I have literally no idea why writing smut feels easier to me than actually writing a plot — I ask myself this every time I write — but it’s probably just from reading a variety of it for a long time!

Also tmi ? (who cares) but having my own sexual experiences also helped a ton! I first wrote nsfw content long before I met my husband, back when I hadn’t experienced much. Since being with him, the ability to try new things & learn about myself with someone I trusted, loved & vice versa has (embarrassingly enough) improved my smut. Writing about things you’re familiar with will usually feel easier than writing about things you’re not!

That being said, y’all, being sexually experienced is NOT some sort of pre-requisite to writing smut. While personal experience is helpful, there are countless ‘resources’ for smut writers. It’s the internet, people! And like I mentioned earlier, reading a lot of it will usually help the process along 😅

In terms of recs, it completely depends on what kind of smut you like! My favourite authors include @machiavelien, @spideysmjs, @i-lovethatforme, @spiderman-homecomeme, @tvfanatic97-2 and @spideyxchelle :)) there are COUNTLESS others though and our petermj hearts are so lucky to be blessed by so many talented writers!!

I like all the complicated relationship Petermj fics that look at Peter and MJ's relationship in a realistic way. I've just started reading until the rainbow burns out in the sky by tvfanatic97 and I'm only 2 chapters is in out of 16 total but they've posted 9 so far and it's really good so far.

Ohh I love until the rainbow burns out in the sky. I actually thought they had abandoned the fic at one point and then they started updating again and it made me so happy when I got the notification.

2. what's a fic that took you to an emotional/dark/hard place?

hmm. well each descending peak is a peter dies fic so that was rough. but honestly i haven't really written a fic that's taken me to a rough place - original stuff, absolutely.

(i'm currently working on a fic that's taken me in some emotional and not always pleasant directions, so, you know. watch this space.)

6. what's the hardest part of the writing process for you?

outlining. it definitely feels like the eating my vegetables/taking my vitamins side of fic writing, because i know it's good for me and it's actually super helpful and keeps me on track, but actually doing it? that's hard. but then the writing part goes smoother.

8. does anyone in your personal life know you write fic? if not, would you tell anyone?

a few people. my husband, though he's never read any of my stuff. but he knows and he's supportive. a few friends from college. basically, there are 4ish people from my personal life who also follow me on here, and they know about the fic. others may know i'm a nerd and involved in fandom, but yeah, mostly it's just mr weezly.

10. how has writing positively impacted your mental health or overall mood?

writing has always been cathartic and also a way for me to escape, and fic has been hugely helpful for my mental health because also, it's brought me into fandom communities? and that's been huge. i love writing and writing fic comes with a built-in audience and engagement in a way that most original writing doesn't. so writing's been great for me, personally.

17. what's the best engagement/interaction/feedback you've received from someone who's read your work?

a lot of really great stuff, but most recently - someone (tvfanatic97) read we could call it even and left a comment on every chapter as they read. like, deeply engaged, analytical comments that just really showed an appreciation for this world that i built, and it was just super gratifying because i do put a lot of thought into my writing, and i do a lot of deep backstory thinking about stuff so when someone picks up on it, and comments that they noticed? sometimes writing fic can feel like shouting into the void. it's worth it for those moments of connection.

20. what's the greatest gift you've gotten from your writing?

this is gonna sound super cheesy but - the friends i've made along the way.

Hi friend, we haven't spoken in a while so hope you're well. I was gonna message you to ask this but figured I should send it as public ask bc I'm sure plenty of your followers would be interested in your answer. Anyway, a lot of your fics are period pieces based on history. What is it about history and specific time periods that draws you to them for your aus? And how do you decide upon which time periods would work well for Peter and MJ?

heeeeeeeeeey friend! I know. I have been so, so unexpectedly busy. and thank you for the really interesting ask.

I have always been a lover of history. while I strongly disagree with so much of the social/political things that happened in history, I think the aesthetic and art can be really, truly beautiful. I mean, I work in classical music, lol. and it is a very direct way to express my love for the aesthetic and art of all of these periods. 

but I also get to give some justice to my characters in these times. (see: reincarnation au). and because, story wise, the stakes are always so incredibly high, I don’t have to invent conflict in historical aus. the conflict is present inherently with the period. and it is not like conflict now for a lot of western culture, where we see bad things happening on the news, but we are mostly sheltered from it. (which is an entirely other issue). in the past, everyone, everywhere, all the time dealt with high stakes conflict. 

the most simple example is modern medicine is a relatively new concept in terms of time. people in the past lived with disease and discomfort on a level that I will personally never understand. 

also, the dumbest but perhaps most honest answer as to why historical/period aus, is the fashion is to die for. I think that the clothes of the past were so, so beautiful. and I like to imagine Peter and MJ in the clothes. it adds a level of elegance to my already beautiful babies.

and finally, on how I choose the periods, I always pick time periods/events where MJ can live in relative peace. not free from conflict. but her race should not be her suffering, ie. slavery. I think that is tasteless and wrong. history has always been shitty to people that are non-white, but you can still tell historical stories with poc without making it all about racism. which is a dumb and ridiculous trend for historical/period aus. and why not make MJ the Queen of England or the Queen of some magical fantasy world with dragons or a badass jazz singer in WW2 or a Cinderella-type or Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love and Beauty or a gunslinger in the wild, wild west? it is what she deserves.

14. a fic you didn’t expect to write

EASILY spilt truth and smudged lies (at least until the inkwell runs dry) - if someone told me I’d end up writing a novel length 85k+ word Spider-Man fic at the start of the year, I’d think they’d been smoking something they shouldn’t have been. I STILL don’t know how I managed to do it, and I don’t think it’s something I’m gonna manage again any time soon.

21. most memorable comment/review

OMG. I don’t know. I’ve been ABSOLUTELY BLESSED by the fandoms I’ve written for this year with some truly wonderful, inspiring comments that have kept me going and going. Some people have left me amazingly long comments going into detail about what they loved, some have done their own little meta of what I’ve written, others just left flaily comments, or single words, and every. single. one. of them made my day. But the best thing, has been when people commenting has led to them coming and saying hi to me on here and we’ve become friends. so shout-out to you guys including: you ! @doofwrites @galaxyspeaking @spiderman-homecomeme @janemichaels @kage-e@zariadriannatomaz @captainriphunter @johnsconstantine @easilydistractedbyfanfic

As MJ stands there watching him expectantly it suddenly hits Peter. That this is it: they did it.

And suddenly he’s so overcome with a barrage of emotions; relief that he’s finally got the evidence that means he’ll be able to clear his name and go home to May finally which exists simultaneously with his lingering anger over the months of his and MJ’s life they’ve lost on the run over a lie, but most importantly, what he feels the most as he stares at the girl in front of him is an immeasurable gratitude for MJ and how she has stuck with him through everything, her loyalty never wavering, an anchor keeping him steady in choppy waters.

It’s all too much, and before he can stop himself Peter finds himself wordlessly jogging the small space across the apartment to the bedroom where he slams the door shut behind him and starts pacing, trying to process everything.

It’s over.

After months of running and hiding, of being constantly on high alert with his paranoia dialling up his enhanced senses to eleven, of having his youth stolen once again…it’s all over.
