as i'm waiting for my new tablet to arrive i'm reminded why i don't shop online ever and hate paying in advance for something i haven't been able to hold in my hands yet.
Tumblr media
it's starting to seem like it won't arrive before my birthday tomorrow so i am officially livid. i specifically picked a store that wasn't far away and promised delivery on the 28 at the earliest but it looked like they only shipped it on the 28th judging by the status 😒 the one time I order a gadget online instead of going directly to a store and this happens. birthday officially ruined.

Melody’s Movie Reviews #1: Newsies (1992)
Hey guys. Welcome to the very first post of Melody’s Movie Reviews.
Today, I’m going to be reviewing Newsies (1992). Yes, the original movie version with Christian Bale. I watched for the first time at the beginning of the year and I enjoyed it. And then, I watched it again just four months ago
Here were my exact thoughts while watching Newsies (1992):
Hearing Max Casella’s voice at the opening really made me excited.
I felt so bad for all these little boys sleeping on top of the statue without any shoes on their feet.  It was pretty heartbreaking.
Boots is literally me when I don’t want to get up. All the boys are basically a mood for anyone who isn’t a morning person.
Me and my mom were watching this, and she was disgusted at the fact that Snitch had his feet on Itey’s face, and they were both dirty.
Christian Bale is adorable in this scene.
And of course, Snipeshooter takes Racetrack’s cigars for no reason. Ugh! Snipeshooter always gets on my nerves. No wonder he’s my least favorite!
Carrying The Banner starts playing and I’m loving every second of it. The choreography and the chemistry with the boys. It’s so obvious that all the boys vibed together in real life off-set, and that’s one of the thing I love about this movie.
Oh, geez, it’s those Delancey brothers. And they go picking on Snipeshooter for no reason. Snipeshooter isn’t my favorite, but he still doesn’t deserve it.
Racetrack really said “only I'm allowed to pick on Snipeshooter.”
Jack’s play-fight with the Delanceys is very entertaining to see. A
In this scene, we’re introduced to Davey and Les. I can already tell that I’m going to like this.
I love how these boys mock Wiesel by calling him Weasel.I would do the same thing.
Les is sooo cute when he sits next to Jack! And their interactions are really sweet!
I like how David doesn’t want anything to do with Jack at first, but Les instantly connects with him. Also, the part where Jack squishes his face is so cute!
Instantly as the newsies sell their papers, Pulitzer comes on the scene.
Even Seitz has more common sense in his little finger than Pulitzer and his cronies combined.
Oh, No! Here comes big jerk Snyder the Spider. My mom didn’t know why he was chasing Jack, so I had to explain it to her halfway.
Ann-Margaret is amazing as Medda. And I loved her interaction with Les. It’s so adorable!
Here’s where we meet the Jacobs family. I love how everyone takes a liking to Jack. And I especially love how he takes a liking to Sarah from the very beginning. Les singing “Lovey-Dovey Baby” in his sleep is so funny!
This is where Jack and Davey become friends. And this is where Santa Fe starts playing. And let me tell you how excited I was when that song played. 92sies has the best version of Santa Fe. Christian Bale didn’t have to go so hard, but he did!
I will never forgive Kenny Ortega for cutting out the lasso scene, especially since Christian worked so hard on it.
This is where The World Will Know starts playing. It’s a great song, and 92sies’ version is the best one! Everyone did such an amazing job!
This where we meet Bryan Denton, and he has such chemistry with David. Also, David is so adorable in this scene when he’s blushing! I knew that Jack and Les would be kicked out the doors, but Jack is a badass as always in this scene. So is Les!
This is where we meet Spot Conlon for the first time. To be honest, I thought I was going to hate him, but then I instantly started to like him!
Les repeating “real hoity toity” is so freaking adorable. Matter of fact, everything he does in this movie is so adorable!
Seize the Day is just starting and I’m already pumped. David Moscow really went hard for this number! And he didn’t have any dance training at all!
The little newsies during Seize the Day are so cute!  Especially Boots, Les, and Flipper!
Jack making faces at Weasel against the window never fails to make me laugh!
I was literally screaming when Crutchy got taken away to the Refuge.
I’ve only seen Ten-Pin for two seconds and I really don’t like him. The way he insulted ed Crutchy by calling him a g*mp is absolutely disgusting. Movie Jack didn’t take well to that! Musical Jack just called Crutchy a cr*p without any qualms!
Aaaannnnd here’s Big Jerk Snyder!
The boys singing during Seize The Day (Chorale) sound like a choir of angels, and I’m loving it. The choreography is absolutely amazing and it reminds me of Michael Jackson.
It’s so adorable how the little newsies made drums for this number.
Annnd here’s Spot Conlon and Brooklyn! I was clapping when they arrived! I was cheering when they won and Denton took the picture!
This is when King of New York starts playing! The tap dancing is amazing, but I bet the costumers were thinking “Those kids are ruining the tables.”
I always skip this scene of the confrontation between Snyder and Crutchy because I can sence that something even worse is gonna happen.
Sarah and Jack didn’t even have that many scenes together, but they had more chemistry than musical Jack and Katherine did.
I really like Seitz. He knows that what Pulitzer is doing is wrong!
Ooh, the Rally scene (aka, the scene where everything gets real). And I was singing along during High Times, Hard Times. Also, seeing Medda with all the newsies was so entertaining to see! They’re just vibing!
Aaaand here comes Big Jerk Snyder, again. I can tell that things are gonna go wrong, again!
Seeing Racetrack being brutally attack made me so mad that I shouted out “NO! Leave Racetrack alone.” This scene pissed me off the first time I saw it!
Pulitzer and Snyder just piss me off already.
I can tell that Jack has been broken down during the Santa Fe reprise.
The scene where Jack scabs breaks my heart. Everyone is pissed off at Jack and Mush is more sad and heartbroken!
I really hate Weisel!
Jack kicking the Delanceys’ butts for messing with his girlfriend and his best friends made me root for him, even after he scabbed.
This version of Once and For All is a lot better and catchier, especially since there was no unnecessary electric guitar.  The way every working kid in New York came together, whether it be a chimney sweep, or a sweatshop kid, makes me very happy! It shows that child labor hurt everyone, not just the newsies.
That part where Jack nearly leaves for Santa Fe really got me!
And now Jack made Les cry!
Seeing Les cry was really heartbreaking! I would’ve hugged him and cupped his chubby cheeks!
Everyone’s just standing there waiting to get their papers and then suddenly, Jack comes back! And then he makes out with Sarah!
I love how Spot rode back to Brooklyn in a carriage!
Yeah, I love the movie version better than Broadwaysies and Livesies!

Romantic epiphanies are dope
At what point, though, had she decided that it was Jake of all people who would disrupt her calendar so completely, while also fulfilling the dreams she didn’t dare write down on it?
After all, if 11-year-old Amy had been asked to create a binder on her future husband - Jake would have not even been mentioned in the footnotes. If she could’ve wished for a partner back then, she definitely wouldn’t have specified that he had to be dorky and clumsy, constantly making bad jokes, living on a diet that would send any other person to the hospital for malnutrition, obsessed with action movies and cop heroics, spending his free time and money on the most useless things anyone could think of, and pranking and bothering her to his heart’s content.
-*-*-*-
On the evening of their engagement, Amy wonders about her own romantic epiphanies and what made her decide that Jake was the person she was going to spend the rest of her life with.
Read it on AO3
“What about you?”
The scene at Shaw’s bar had settled down a bit after the united ring of the squad had broken down into their own little groups as they always did. Gina was busy admiring Terry’s biceps from a corner booth, phone in hand as always, while he played a game of darts with Jake, who was shooting glances over to Amy every few seconds as if they had been apart for months again instead of just a few minutes. Charles was extolling the virtues of some new restaurant to Captain Holt, who definitely looked like he was preparing to leave ever since he’d stepped foot into the bar. Hitchcock and Scully were… well, somewhere, either asleep or eating, probably.
And Rosa was sliding onto the barstool next to Amy, a cocktail glass - Moscow Mule, her favourite, Amy had learned after literally a year of sleuthing - in her hand and a curious glint in her eye that didn’t quite fit the usually stoic face.
“Hmm~?” Amy gave her a quizzical look - she was not yet anywhere on her scale of drunkenness, still holding the beer she’d used to cheer during today’s round of toasts. She didn’t  want to get drunk tonight - she wanted to remember it all, forever. The little diamonds of her wonderful new ring were shining just perfectly against the dark brown bottle.
“What about you, Santiago. When was your romantic epiphany? Knowing that you’ll say yes if he asks?” Rosa raised an eyebrow and schooled a more appropriate, serious look on her face. “Because let’s be honest, as sweet as Jake is, his’ was pretty lame. You do cross word puzzles like, every night.”
“Oh, I see.” Amy gave the label on her beer a good scratching, peeling off the edges slightly. “I guess-” she started, but nothing else came.
While Rosa usually enjoyed drinking in silence far more than anything, right now she was on the level of inebriated where she would actually let loose enough to, ugh,  chat . And she wanted to chat with Amy, of all people. Well, she supposed, maybe that wasn’t quite so strange, considering she was one of her best friends. Actually, her best friend. Girl-wise, next to Jake. It was still a struggle to admit to herself that these two absolute dorks were far more than just co-workers to her, sometimes even more than just simple friends.
But Amy was still silent, staring at her drink as if it held the answer to everything (which it definitely didn’t if it turned her into Spacey Amy on drink 1).
“It’s fine if you don't have one, you know. S’not always like the movies.”
“No no, it’s just- it’s kinda-” The beer’s label was peeling some more, and the bottle was almost empty after another sip.
It was just kinda… the fact that Amy had always been split down two very different sides concerning marriage.
On the one hand, it had never really occurred to her. Her life plan, hanging proudly over her bed while she was living alone, now replaced by a movie poster of Jake’s that was luckily not Die Hard and the plan relegated to her little office corner, made no mention of it. She had plans for her career - many of them - and actually a few goals for her private life as well, to maintain a healthy work-life-balance as one should. But marriage? There had never been a date set on her wall for that. It was too risky, she’d reasoned even as a teen while drawing up her first plan. Unpredictable, since it involved a whole other person, and relationships couldn’t be planned and dated down to the day, which she hated to think about, and she wouldn’t have much time to date anyway if she was gearing up to be the youngest female Captain in NYPD history. And, if she was completely honest, it was sometimes too scary to think about as well - she knew she was a difficult person to be around, in some ways. Definitely difficult to handle as a romantic partner. What if she couldn't find a man willing to put in that work? And then see the dates on her calendar pass by, alone, or crying from heartbreak? No, marriage was not on her life plan at all, she’d decided at the ripe age of eleven in her pink and off-white bedroom while writing down all the big moments of her life to come.
On the other hand, it had always been an obvious yes. Having a husband,  having a family - she could imagine nothing else, growing up with all her siblings, with her parents still being obviously in love with each other after all these years, with her tias and tios and abuelas and abuelos all around her. What would life even be like without that kind of family? Without people over at her place every holiday, without someone trusted by her side tag-teaming all the tasks and duties of everyday life, without that little group of people that she knew would always be there, would always be loving and caring for her the way she loved and cared for them. It was unimaginable. She’d seen the endlessly romantic scenes in films and read about them in her books, and while she was not easily impressed or swayed even as a teenager, she was definitely... expecting some of that in her own life. She wanted the romantic moments, the flashbacks to tell her children and grandchildren about, the beautiful proposal, the perfectly-planned wedding, the photo album of years and years together, of all the milestones a couple could have. Yes, marriage was definitely on her life plan, tucked into the back of her mind and ever present.
Then again, that wasn’t Jake anymore - maybe it had been during their first few years as only co-workers, but he was constantly changing, growing up step by step, maybe a bit later than others, but definitely growing. He was always willing to learn, as much as he’d moan about it all. He was willing to get better, spurned on by competition, maybe, or by the desire to be the best -anything- he could be, not just best detective, but he was willing no matter the reason.
And then again, that wasn’t all that Jake had really been, ever - maybe on the outside, to the unknown onlooker, but not to those who really spent time with him. As careless as he was with his own health, he was always caring for everyone else in his own subtle and not so subtle ways. As ridiculous as his jokes and pranks were, he also knew exactly when they were not appropriate anymore, and he could lend a hand or a sympathetic shoulder just as seriously as he could stand guard for you if you needed a moment alone in the evidence lock-up. As much as he would boast about himself and throw jabs at everyone else, he would also turn into the ultimate hype-man for everyone on the squad at the mere mention of one of them failing or stumbling.
And if Amy had been given the chance to write a wishlist for the man she wanted to spend her life with at any point of her planning - that kindness, compassion and support would’ve definitely been on the top of it.
She realised she still hadn’t answered Rosa. Luckily, Diaz was exactly the kind of person who knew how to hold onto a weighted silence and give her all the time she needed without interrupting her. She simply sipped her heavy-on-the-vodka-please drink and waited.
“I don’t think I-” Amy started up again, realising that her beer bottle was now completely label-less, a small heap of paper on the bar counter next to her. “I don’t think it was one big moment, to be honest. I think it was a lot of little ones.”
“Like what, buying folders together to get his desk straightened out? The moment when he actually used a five-syllable-word right? The day he finally stopped mixing gummy bears with red vines and calling it ‘sugar bolognese’?”
“I know you’re making fun of it, but those were all milestones in their own way, okay?” Amy shot Rosa a little glare, which proved to be extremely ineffective against the other Latina’s taunting grin.
“But they weren’t the moments?” Rosa continued to poke her, turning her voice several octaves higher for the last words. “Where Jake turned into the knight in shining armour baby-Amy definitely used to draw into her diary?”
No, they weren’t. Sure, Amy was proud of Jake for all of them. But they weren’t the moments where she’d realised that this was it, that this person was  her person. That there would never be anyone who loved her the way he did, and that she could never feel for anyone else what she felt for him.
She tried to think of something romantic, something big to throw back into Rosa’s face, make her stop the jokes and understand. Make her see that it wasn’t about the grand gestures or the perfect match that made Jake her one and only, as cheesy as that sounded.
They’d had many big moments, that was for sure.
When he went in front of the whole precinct here at Shaw’s to cryptically talk about how much just six days with her meant to him. When she knocked on his door to say  screw light and breezy and his eyes lit up as if she’d just taken the weight of the world off of his shoulders. When he sat at the back of an ambulance, a bullet wound from her in his leg and the memory of Figgis’ gun still on his temple, and none of that seemed to matter because they were back in sync and he’d get to finally go back home with her. When he forfeited a bet, lost a collar and gave up his entire apartment for her happiness. When she was knee-deep in files at the precinct long after her working hours and her phone rang, an unknown number on the screen, and when she picked it up she heard his voice so far away and metallic and realised that he must’ve broken several rules and put himself into danger just to get a phone into prison to talk to her. When he spun an entire Halloween heist around today to get her to win it, all so he could give her that soft scared smile as she turned and saw him down on one knee.
Rosa knew about all of these. She’d witnessed them, or heard her drunkenly ramble about them during their weekly get-togethers. And they were all big moments, good moments, special moments she would re-tell to everyone who wanted to hear about her and Jake and their story.
But they weren’t all of it. They were the big plot points in their shared book of life, that was for sure. But they weren’t the kind of quotes she’d underline, the ones she’d write little notes into the margins for. The ones that made her love this book more than any other story she’d ever read.
Yet when she thought about those definitely underlined quotes that came up in her mind now, they all seemed so… trivial, compared to what you’d expect about romantic epiphanies.
Like the time she picked him up at the airport coming back from prison, when he leant back in his seat and took a deep, almost inappropriate sniff of her stupid little pinetree air freshener, telling her how unreal it seemed that someone could miss a smell like that, but that he’d longed for it for weeks now. That it wasn’t pinetree to him anymore, it was the comfort of Amy’s car, and their morning drive to the precinct when he was too tired to get into his Mustang, and Amy picking him up after a few hours too long working on a case, all wrapped up in one scent that he never realised he could miss. He was sniffing an air freshener, with his uneven beard scratching all over it, red eyes from an early flight and maybe a few tears they’d shed at the pick up area, and Amy was sure her heart could never ache as much for anyone else as it did for the tired man sitting in her passenger seat.
Or the time she’d come home from work on his first day off after they’d moved in together, expecting to see her prim and proper apartment turned into a slouchfest the way his old place had been. Only to realise that nothing had changed - safe for the take out containers next to the sink, which had enough left in it that they could share it for dinner. Only to realise that he had actually done all of the laundry,  and  folded all her socks and underwear exactly right,  and  even folded the fitted sheets properly,  and put it all into the closet in the system she’d developed but never actually written down, because it came to her like second nature. Only to realise that meant that he’d watched her, every time she’d done it, to learn it all perfectly so he could do it for her. And she looked at him as he jumped up from the couch to heat the take out for her as she changed out of her work clothes, and realised that she never wanted to share her home with anyone else.
Or the time he’d first been invited to the big Santiago summer get together, and she’d stressed over it just as much he did, making information binders on her family and their quirks and their habits and what he could say and what he should absolutely not say. But when the party finally came, and he’d squeezed her hand so nervously stepping into the living room, he managed to remember every single brother’s, sister-in-law’s, niece’s and nephew’s name, made extra time for her abuela Claudia’s stories and waited for her tia Maria to translate everything someone yelled in Spanish for him, sat down at exactly the place on the table that would’ve secretly been reserved for him as a test, and slipped into dinner conversations and children’s games down at the lake as if he’d always been there, always been a part of her family. She watched him running from her nephews’ water guns and secretly rolling his eyes at her while talking to her brother David and offering his arm to her abuela Sofia on a walk the way he would usually offer it to her, and she realised that it fit so well because he should have always been there, that this spot in her family had always waited for him.
Or the time she’d started her period while staying over at his place for the first time ever, waking up to stained sheets and cramps and the rushing feeling of pure embarrassment, telling him she was so, so sorry and would buy him new sheets and probably better get home so she could deal with this and not bother him for the rest of the weekend despite the plans they’d made. And he’d simply gotten out of bed, rummaged through a cabinet in his bathroom and returned with painkillers, a hot water bottle, and a box of pads and tampons he’d bought after an awkward day at the academy when Rosa had lectured him about always being prepared for anything his fellow detectives could need. And he’d parked her on the sofa after she’d changed into one of his boxers, and the washing machine was already cleaning the sheets and her underwear, and he said  be right back and returned from the bodega on the corner with ice cream and salt & vinegar chips and her favourite chocolate. And she looked at him as he sat down on the other side of the couch, remote already in hand to see what they could binge-watch this weekend, acting as if nothing was wrong and she hadn’t just completely inconvenienced him and weirded him out with her problems, and she realised that she hadn’t. That they’d been together barely a month and a half, and he was already so comfortable having her around that he was prepared for anything. That she could lay it all on him, without the fear of being embarrassed or rebuked as she had been with any other man in her life before him.
Or the time she cancelled what was meant to be their second date ever (after that awkward, chaotic, yet happy-ending first one) because she’d gotten sick. When he showed up that evening at her door, she’d been worried he hadn’t gotten her text (she was too stuffed up to speak properly on the phone, she’d realised when calling in sick to work). But he was wearing an old t-shirt and sweatpants instead of a date outfit, and carried a grocery store bag and a drug store bag, and then he made her take a bath with one of those cold-remedy bath salt sachets he’d found, and cooked her his mom’s sickly-soup (with store-bought matzoh balls, he had to admit, he never quite got those right), and let her pick any movie she wanted to watch while they ate their soup wrapped up under one blanket so she could steal all of his body heat. He’d been to her place as her boyfriend only twice before, but she realised as she snuggled into his arms under the blanket and blew her nose into one of the extra-soft tissues he’d bought that she’d felt so wrong being sick and alone at her home, that she’d subconsciously hoped he could be there to rub the vapo-rub on her back before she went to sleep that night, and that nothing felt more right than him already whistling in the kitchen when she woke up feeling slightly better the next morning.
They were all these little moments, these facets of life that barely even mattered to outsiders, that happened and re-happened several times a year. But they did matter, and they came into her mind every time her mom warned her on the phone not to be ‘too hasty’, every time her non-work friends asked her if she was really sure she was talking about ‘Peralta, the guy you used to moan about so much’, every time someone made a joke to Jake and her about her being ‘above his pay-grade’ or them being ‘an odd couple if they ever saw one’. It was these little moments that mattered so much more to her than any grand romantic gesture could, and that manifested in her mind that Jake was it, and always had been.
The bottle of beer in her hand was still label-less, but she noticed that it was also empty. She didn’t know when she’d transitioned into Spacey Amy, but looking up at Rosa’s face, seeing Gina next to her who’d apparently walked up at some point, she realised that she’d been talking, not thinking all of this.
“Daaaamn, girl.” Gina replied, but her voice was quiet, not even close to the usual mocking tone she’d take on for Amy. Rosa next to her was silent, blinking hard, and if she didn’t know her any better Amy would’ve almost believed she was fighting back a few tears. Which was ridiculous, because this was Rosa, and she’d only had six drinks, which brought her barely close to the emotional level she needed to even think about crying. Rosa’s drunk-scale started a lot later than Amy’s did.
Amy swept away a little tear from her own cheek while grinning awkwardly down at her bottle.
“Good thing that was one drink Spacey Amy and not two drink Loud Amy, huh?” She tried to joke, but Rosa only shook her head.
“Santiago, shit like that, you should shout from the fucking rooftops. Or at least into your fiancé’s stupid grinning face. Damn, I’m genuinely so happy for you two dorks, you’re so perfect. Don’t ever quote me on that, though.” Rosa had at least reached the swearing stage of drunkenness, the one where she’d wrap genuine emotion in as many rude words as possible to make it seem like she still didn’t care as much as she did.
Amy looked over at Jake and caught him looking away just as quickly. He’d been watching her again. He often did when he thought she wouldn’t notice, she’d realised that early on in their relationship. They’d be watching a movie, or hunched over case files, or simply hanging out at her kitchen counter nibbling on take away leftovers and discussing their day, and she’d look up and notice him almost flinching away. On the rare occasions that she woke up after him - once in a blue moon, when the night had been far longer than she’d planned, like tomorrow, probably - she would roll to the side and meet with his eyes, half-closed and shining and definitely, completely focussed on nothing but her.
It was almost unsettling to be the centre of someone’s attention like that, but in a good way. In a way that made her heart skip a beat, because she’d never expected to be anyone’s point of focus like this, ever.
Maybe, besides all the little moments and epiphanies, that had actually been the point of no return for her, love-wise - when she realised just what she was to Jake. Everything, he’d told her not just once during his more romantic moments, whispering in her ear and pressing a kiss to her temple.  You’re everything to me, Ames, and sometimes I think you’re even a bit more than that.
“Hey.” She heard his voice next to her as he walked up from the long-forgotten dart board, where Gina was quick to jump in and challenge Terry to another round to see him flex his shoulders.
“Hey yourself.” She grinned back, one drink Amy still on the clock.
“Thought I should come over here to tell you something really important.”
“Oh, sure.” The serious tone in his voice made her steel herself almost as a reflex. “What is it?”
“I realised I’m absolutely, crazy in love with you. Is that okay?”
And there was this grin, this stupid wide grin she knew so well, that always looked a bit different when it was directed towards her than anyone else. Amy couldn’t help but laugh as she softly punched his arm.
“Yeah, you know.” She looked at the ring on her finger as she stroked over the space she’d only just hit. “I think that’s pretty okay.”
He leant down for a kiss, and they could both hear a gagging sound from the side.
“Knock it off, Diaz.” Jake shot Rosa a fake-angry look. “You’re not allowed to make fun of us today.”
“Alright, alright. I don’t need to watch it, though.” Rosa stood up from her bar stool, only to punch Jake into the other arm, definitely stronger than Amy just had. He grinned at her nonetheless, knowing full well that was as close and emotional as a tight hug would be from his old friend.
“Better take your fiancée home before she turns into two drink Amy, though. Think you’ve got some stuff to say that shouldn’t be heard from the whole bar.” She grinned again before walking off to beat both Gina and Terry at darts.
Jake followed her with his eyes before smiling back at Amy.
“My fiancée.” He repeated, and she could see how strange the word still felt in his mouth, strange and new and absolutely joyful.
“Your future wife.” She smiled back, and it didn’t sound strange at all. It sounded perfectly right. Because it had always, always been.

Bc It’s such a good post will you answer all the cafe asks?
Yessss totally!
Vanilla Chai Latte : Are you in love?
Yes, wholeheartedly and unapologetically, I am.
My girlfriend and I have only been together for two months, but it’s one of those things where when you know, you know. I’ve been in relationships lasting upwards of a year where I still didn’t know at the end of them whether or not I was in love. Early on in the year, I was actually even having conversations with my mom about how I wasn’t sure I’d ever been in love; I had no concept of what that felt like. I didn’t feel like I was feeling what I was supposed to be in relationships. I wondered if I was aromantic and if I wasn’t meant to experience romantic love.
With her, I’ve realized everything love IS supposed to feel like, and I’ve realized I AM capable of feeling those feelings - I just hadn’t met the right person yet. My heart was waiting for her.
We daydream of the life we intend to build together, and it delights me to be able to wake up every day and choose her, again and again, as we run boldly and breathlessly into the future we now share. We totally u-hauled but we’re both so committed to blooming and becoming together; it’s unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before despite having quite a bit of experience in relationships.
Flat White : Coffee or Tea?
Coffee. It feels more substantial to me with more ways to customize it exactly how you like it. I also just have a lot of really positive memories being in coffee shops! I’m currently obsessing over Starbucks’s seasonal salted caramel mocha.
Cappuccino : What’s your middle name?
Elizabeth! I was named after my mother and grandmother, so it’s the only part of my birth name I kept when I changed my name.
Mocha : Dream Job?
A famous professional organizer on the same level as Marie Kondo and Dorothy Breininger! They’re my inspiration and the reason I went into this kind of work. Also, the executive director of my own LGBT-focused nonprofit (which I have been, and I intend to be again!).
Pumpkin Spice : Dream car?
The super fancy bike I’ll use the day I ride in the AIDS LifeCycle? Haha, I don’t drive and I don’t intend to!
Jasmine Tea : If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Ugh, if I could visit any place in the world right this moment, I’d choose to go back to Toronto in a heartbeat. I went there in 2015 for the Inside Out LGBT Film Festival and I LOVED that city. It was so fun and the people were so welcoming. Other than that? Moscow, because it’s where @googoogojob lives, or New York City, because I just learned Hook & Ladder 8 (the Ghostbusters firehouse) is a real place and I want to see it!
Old English : You’re stranded on an island, who do you bring with you?
Do I have a limit?? If I have a choice, I’m definitely bringing my mom, brother, maternal grandparents, best friend, best friend’s family, cat, and girlfriend! That’s like the minimum amount of people in my life I couldn’t go without.
Iced Chocolate : Do you have a crush on someone?
My girlfriend, who I continually redevelop a big gay crush on every day! But I feel like that’s not quite the spirit of what this question is asking, so - I also have a big gay crush on Kristen Wiig, which my girlfriend endlessly makes fun of me for! Like, to the point I named my cat Erin Gilbert.
Caramel Frappe : Favorite video game?
It’s a tie between Minecraft and Undertale. I swing wildly between playing Minecraft daily to not playing for months, but it never gets old. The sandbox nature of the game enables infinite creativity, and the low stakes make it both accessible to me (not a gamer) and relaxing. And Undertale with its story and unique mechanics remains to this day the game to inspire the biggest emotional response in me. I’ve thought about having, “Despite everything, it’s still you” tattooed.
Iced Lemon Tea : Favorite song/band?
My favorite songs of all time are “The Greatest” by Sia and “I Know a Place” by MUNA, both of which were written in the aftermath of the Pulse shooting and can be interpreted as the process of rediscovering queer joy at the same time your community is constantly faced with tragedy and pain. They hit hard in a beautiful way as a hate crime survivor.
Iced Cafe Mocha : Favorite thing to do on rainy days?
I like to go out as soon as the storm passes and just walk downtown in the rain. The air always smells and feels so good; it clarifies me and I feel renewed. Walking in the light rain or before / after the storm always feels like breathing, really breathing, for the first time. It reminds me I exist and it reminds me that’s neat.
Hot Chocolate : Are you an affectionate person?
Yessssss oh my god. I live and breathe being affectionate and not even in a strictly romantic sense. I’m naturally an exuberant person and I delight in making people happy. My girlfriend would also say I engage in “cat behavior” with my demands to be held or touching constantly. XD
Caramel Macchiato : You’re travelling the entire world but you can only take one person with you. Who do you take?
My girlfriend @sweetmckinnon. Not only would we have the unprecedented opportunity to be gay in every country and continent, but we’re both writers, and we’d write an excellent book about these adventures!
Green Tea : How tall are you?
5’7.
Early Grey Tea : The inevitable Zombie Apocalypse is upon us! What’s your plan of action?
I’m rounding up everyone I care about and taking us to the nearest commune of marginalized people. We’ll be avoiding those uber-macho survivalist types like the plague, because their arrogance will 100% get everyone killed. At least marginalized communities would be more likely to understand working together and looking out for the community, not just yourself.
Mint Tea : How do you relax?
Indoor cycling is my drug of choice. It’s HARD to be mad or stressed when you’re exerting that intensely. I might also write self-indulgent fanfics or indulge in a little controlled chaos (I’m an acrylic pour and collage artist). And talking to my girlfriend, best friend, or mom always makes me feel better, too.
Vanilla Latte : Board games or drinking games?
I genuinely love board games and wish I had more people to play them with.
Iced Coffee : Do you like reading? If so, what’s your favorite book?
I like reading, but having ADHD has made it extremely hard to read entire books in recent years. My favorite book is probably The Radium Girls by Kate Moore. The author takes what’s already a horrific story and a dark chapter in American history and with her devastating writing style, humanizes each woman involved to the point it makes you ache to read knowing the inevitability of their fate. Anytime anyone asks me for a book recommendation, this is the book I suggest.
Italian Soda : Describe your dream date
My dream date would be after we’ve been together for a while - maybe on a date that’s special to us, like our anniversary, or maybe just on a random night because we feel like it, we have one of those super romantic dates like you see in the movies. We dress up super cute, go out to dinner and come home to a bedroom full of candles and rose petals on the floor, and every moment is spent just enjoying each other and what we have together in every way we can. <3
Sparkling Water : Describe what qualities you look for in a person
Passion - I’m an activist who became the executive director of their own nonprofit at the age of 16. I’m not going to mesh with someone who’s just going through the motions of life without any aspirations.
Flexibility - It’s a turnoff for me when someone is EXTREMELY committed to a very specific view of how their life is going to be. It tells me right away I’m going to have to continually contort myself to fit into their unbending path, because I accept I can’t predict the direction of my life with any degree of precision and I’m not rigid about it as a result.
Creative - I’m currently dating another writer and it’s the most fun I’ve ever had in a relationship. The quickest way to get us to pop off into a spirited debate is to get us started about story structure and characterization. We. Go. OFF. And could go off for days. Our shared creative passion gives us endless ground to connect and bond on.
Those are just a few, but definitely a few important ones for me!
Orange Juice : Have you ever had a valentine?
My first girlfriend, who I dated from 12-17, is the only valentine I’ve ever had. The timing of my relationships as an adult has never worked out for me to be partnered on Valentine’s Day. We weren’t super out about our relationship at the time and didn’t spend Valentine’s Day together, but I still have the love letters she sent me copied into my 7th grade diary, and I still have the antique gold heart necklace with enamel roses she gave me one year, too! Lots of lovely memories from that relationship.
Rose Hip Tea : Describe your first kiss
My first girlfriend and I were 12-13, cutting class in the bathroom because she was often bullied for her sexuality. She was having an especially rough day that day and I knew exactly where to find her. She kissed me out of the blue while I was comforting her and in all of my baby gay naivety, I hadn’t fully realized I was gay or that she liked me that way prior to that. Turns out I was and she did. We dated for five years.
Herbal Tea : You’re at a candle shop, what scented candle do you buy?
Oh, I’m going right to the bakery scent section. I’m not a huge fan of chocolate-scented candles, but vanilla? Christmas cookies? Gingerbread? Sign me the FUCK up.
Sandalwood is also one of my favorite scents, but depending on what it’s blended with, it can be hit or miss for me in candles.

Polyamorous: I know her
Pairing: Steve Rogers x reader x Bucky Barnes/ Stucky x reader
Summary : Bucky remembers everything but her face
warning: Fluff, language
First kiss | First touch | Moving in | The day they left | Found you | The day Stark found out| Big Change | The Train | The Plane | Alone | Unfortunate Sequence of events | I know her
Tumblr media
Steve and Bucky were finally, kind of sort of, together again. After the whole Civil War and accords thing Steve and Tony sat down talked everything over and changed the accords. The team was no back in New York in the Avengers compound and everyone, except Tony, was friendly.
Although Bucky was back and could remember somethings Steve did not rekindle the flame they had before the ice. For two reasons, one Bucky was still recovering memories and didn’t remember a lot or ever spoke of remembering their relationship and Steve didn’t want to force him into something he didn’t like or remember. And Two their love affair Started with three Steve actually felt guilty and uncomfortable to be with Bucky without (y/n) Steve refused to love one without the other. (Actually, Steve felt uncomfortable starting any relationship with anyone and only one person it felt unnatural to him to have only one. Yep this relationship fucked him up)
Unbeknown ounce to Steve, Bucky was well aware of their past relationship the only problem was he could not remember the three party.
He remembered her body, her touch, her voice, her laugh, her smell, her cooking, dancing, her- her everything. Except for her face and name. In his dreams, he actually saw her face but could never remember it when he woke and never heard her name. She was a mystery. Instead of doing the logical thing and talking to Steve Bucky wrote phrase she would say and draw a scene of her from his memory, of course without her face.
That’s what he was doing now. Curled up in the corner or the couch with a notebook in lap and pencil it is quiet. Bucky looked up to see Clint learning over his shoulder he had been there her the past 5 minutes Bucky hoped he’d walk away without a word but unfortunately this was Clint.
“I get the little guy is Steve but who’s the girl”.
Bucky had drawn a memory Tiny Steve was laying on one end of a couch with a book in his lap on the other end was a girl also reading a book with their legs were entangled with each other ... she had no face.
“Don’t know” Bucky mumbled “can’t remember”
“don’t worry You'll remember sooner or later.” Clint reassured him with an awkward pat on the back “By the way we’ve got a meeting Starting ... 5 minutes ago” rolling his eyes Bucky and Clint rushed to the meeting room.
“Glad you two finally decided to join us,” Fury says sarcastically. Clint gives an oops and takes a seat Bucky say nothing. “Alright, this is your target” A photo pops up on the screen it was a woman wearing a bunny mask “she belongs to an extended branch of Hydra. She works with a woman called Katlen Vladimir”
“Mama”
“what?”
“The lower ranks call her Mama ... higher officials ‘ The mother’” Bucky said “she” Bucky points to the screen “ she doesn’t have a name everyone called her ‘It’ or ‘The Girl’. I remember doing a few missions with her but not her face. Last I heard she was still in Moscow with Mama”.
He remembered the last time he saw her. He had killed someone super important and the whole world was losing their shit. He was given the reward of not being nice and a girl, he didn’t touch her from what he could recall she was only 15. It wasn’t given much of an award Mama had given her a new dress which she wore when she was iced. Bucky remembered watching the ice flake over her skin so beautifully and actually crack her mask. He caught a glimpse if her eye that he remembers them being a beautiful shade of (e/c).
"do you know where in Moscow they maybe?" Steve asked,
"there's a place in the underworld called 'The Restaurant' if they aren't there Tokyo also has a Restaurant"
"you've been to this Restaurant thing before?" Natasha asked. She had never heard about and had ties to many Russian organization and was surprised to have never her of this place.
Bucky took a deep breath flipping over the files he began to draw on the back. He spoke as his pen moved "it's kind of like a big part. It's where the rich and sick go to be entertained by live action. Most of everyone ears a mask and use an alias. It starts off as drinks, greetings, and bets. Then the host comes and introduces the pets and their owners-"
"Pet?" Sam questioned. Bucky decided to dumb it down before he completely lost them.
"Okay... um... their kind of like gladiators but someone owns them. They fight to kill but the less mess they make and the longer they keep their opponent alive and suffering the more money the owners get and more entertainment for everyone else. In some cases, they'll sale the loser's body or weapons to the highest bidder"
Bucky finished his drawing and slid it to the middle of the table. It was of the restaurant. In the picture, two people stood facing each other clothes tattered and falling apart with great wounds. Above were three balconies hundreds of masked men and women stood in suits and dresses cheering for watching the fight below.
"Pets are the fighter. They get nothing out of this besides life. A painful and torturous one at that."
"That is sick," Sam said gagging. "Throwing up already? Haven't even told you what the owners do to their pets" Bucky joked darkly no one laughed.
"why are we hearing this now? " Fury asked angrily
" As I said sick AND RICH. Kill the organization if you want but the members are like cockroaches crawling until the end of time" Fury clenches his jaw and slams his fist on the table. He hated being left in the dark he hated being powerless. Rich or poor he'd take it all down.
"how did you get in"
"I know someone from the Tokyo district. He can sneak a few of us in, masked of course."
"can we trust this guy"
"define trust" everyone groaned " he's a good guy. But I don't doubt he'll have his own agenda will have to watch for. He'll help."
After Fury left Bucky sat with the others and gave them the base plan of the building or what he could remember. An underground building very big 6 floors, too many exits to count, lots of people. This was either going to be super hard or super easy.
Bucky laid across his bed Photo of the target in hand. "It's her, isn't it. The girl that we saw in the video trying to stop you from.... it's her isn't it" Tony leaned up against his door frame. He had thought about this woman ever since the day he saw that video he has wondered who she was where she when and why had she tried to save his mother?
"Yes... she heard your mother call your father's name and just froze... she tried to stop me... I didn't.... I'm sorry"
Tony didn't say anything but walked off. He still hadn't forgiven Bucky for what happened to his parents but he had decided to listen and tolerated him understanding that it wasn't entirely his fault. He wasn't forced but didn't know any other choice. He wasn't a victim but he wasn't the killer either. He was ...complicated. One day Tony might forgive him, the day wasn't coming anytime soon, but he'd always remember.
A little after Tony left Steve walked in, Bucky should probably close his door. "Hey, how you feeling pal?" Steve took a seat at the end of his bed.
"I feel like I should put a Keep Out sign on my door" Steve chuckled "I feel like... shit. I know her but I don't know her. I feel like I should know her and I'm guilty because I don't. I can feel name on my tongue but I can't say it. I can see her in my mind but I can't clear it. Steve, I know her"

Tagged by: @dinodina
That’s the first one, I got tagged in this one more time...
Rules: always post the rules. Answer the 11 random questions posted for you. Create new ones and tag 11 people. Let the person who tagged you know that you answered.
1. What do you think is each team Torchwood member’s (Jack, Ianto, Tosh, Owen, Gwen) favourite film?
Well, damn. I don’t really know many films (especially of the TW timeframe). Well, okay, I know a bunch of old Soviet films, but I doubt anyone from the team watched that.
At least we know Ianto’s favourite are James Bond movies. And Star Wars. And Jack probably likes some old ones (and most likely has some memories about the actors!), but I’m afraid I don’t know any old American/British movies... Tosh... something romantic? I mean, her love life was really miserable, it would make sense. Owen... ugh. I think he’s the sort of person who complains about every film he watches, even if he likes it. I bet no one knows his favourite film. Gwen... do you see how much I suck at this? But I’ll go with a musical. Don’t ask which one, I’ve seen none...
2. What do you think each Torchwood member would do on vacation?
Vacation? Torchwood? Well, maybe Gwen. She would go somewhere nice with Rhys, like Paris mentioned in Adam. I really hope that Jack and Ianto would spend it together being disgustingly romantic, cooking together and going to museums where Jack would tell ridiculous stories about various exhibits. Tosh would visit her family in Japan. Owen... ugh, we’ve seen so many variations of him! I think season 1 Owen wouldn’t go further than the closest bar or club. Season 2 Owen might actually go stargazing.
3. Why do you think the Torchwood logos are everywhere? What is your favorite logo?
Okay, don’t hit me, but I didn’t even notice the logo obsession before joining Tumblr... And I can’t think of a reasonable explanation. Then again, we know Torchwood isn’t quite as secret as they pretend to be, so... if something somehow got lost, people would know where to bring it. I mean, there could be alien radiation on those printers. Come on. Also means that team members can’t take this stuff out. And half of their problems are taking home things. Maybe they didn’t have enough labels?
4. If team Torchwood did have the pool tournament Tosh and Owen talked about, who would win?
I know nothing about pool, but Jack would win. Definitely not fairly. He’ll then be disqualified, and there I think Tosh would shine.
5. Which Torchwood member do you think makes the best tea?
I’d say Ianto, but we have contradicting evidence here. To the Last Man implies his tea is at least decent, but the novel Risk Assessment says his tea is awful. Still, I don’t really like that novel, so -- Ianto it is. Sue me. Or maybe Tosh, I think she’s the tea type.
6. What do you think is each Torchwood member’s laptop screensaver?
Jack has a Torchwood logo (what else?!). Gwen a photo of her and Rhys, maybe one from the wedding. Tosh has a calming landscape. She also has an ongoing war with Owen, who puts lewd pictures as screensaver; Tosh changes them to kittens and whales. Ianto keeps the air of mystery by keeping his screensaver black.
7. If you could relocate Torchwood Three to anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Moscow? Please? I know some people who would fit right in...
8. What type of music do you think each Torchwood member listens to?
Right... we know Jack likes Glen Miller and that sort of old music. Ianto listens to some stuff that makes my ears bleed, I’m afraid (Ahab?) and ABBA. Gwen... I’ll try to be consistent and say musicals. Tosh, I think, likes modern instrumental music and modern adaptations of classical pieces. And it was probably @gmariam321 that planted the idea in my head that Owen loves opera.
9. What food do you think each Torchwood member would bring/contribute to a party?
[What do people even do at parties? *cough* Never mind.]
Ianto would find the place and assign what each person should bring/do. Gwen would bring food that Rhys cooked (she provided moral support!). Jack would try to decorate, Ianto wouldn’t let him (can you imagine a party with all-Torchwood decorations? Well, Ianto couldn’t until that one time.) Tosh helps clean up and decorate properly. Owen is nowhere to be found until there’s booze.
10. Describe the Torchwood Christmas party of 2008, with all of the team in attendance.
Hm... Is Owen dead already?..
Lots of mistletoe - courtesy of Jack. Ianto can’t take it all down on his own. Tosh tries to make it all better with tasteful decorations, but it doesn't really help. Gwen convinces everyone to do some stupid Christmas tradition (Christmas movies, secret Santa, ugly sweaters...) and everyone pretends to hate it. It’s also the best Christmas party they’ve had in a long time. Owen tries to be grumpy and unhappy, but Tosh is so sweet and genuinely wants him to have fun, he has to give in.
11. What would you say to convince someone to watch Torchwood?
I tried to make my sister watch Torchwood. I told her it had cannibals, people coming back from the dead, a pet Pteranodon, lots of action and heartbreaking romance. Unfortunately, she’s a physicist as well and much less tolerant of time travel.

February Feats 2020
I write this from underneath two blankets, perched atop three pillows. This is day three of being sick (Nathan just joined me in illness yesterday) and I think I’m getting better but that could just be blind hope. In any case, I still have to tell you what went on last month. Forgive the tone of this post, it might be… affected.
I heard that Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker are going to be in the Paul Simon play Plaza Suite together and so I casually thought “Ooo, might be nice to catch” so I looked it up and tickets START at $700. So I guess fuck me then. I swear to god, this fucking city.
The best cover so far this year:
Tumblr media
Above Photo: Brian Stauffer, The New Yorker
I rewatched a movie I love: The Door In The Floor and it really holds up well. Kim Basinger and Jeff Bridges and both too good at what they do. Love this movie so much.
I rewatched The Evil Dead and look I understand it’s probably a “good horror movie” especially for its time and budget, but I fucking hated it, maybe even more so than the last time that I saw it. Never again. Why do I keep rewatching things that I hate? I don’t have to like everything. I must repeat this to myself daily.
I had lunch at Daily Provisions and their lemon cruller was really good and light and the chicken club sandwich was good, too. Always a solid morning/afternoon place.
Favourite tweets of the month.
I tried Trader Joe’s Whole Wheat Couscous and maaaaan, it was so good. So I guess all couscous is good? Gotta get my hands on that pearly couscous. That seems like the money cousocus.
I made this Greek Couscous Salad for lunches for a week and didn’t get sick of it at all, I gotta remember to keep this in the rotation. I also kept the salad and the couscous separate until I wanted to eat, and then I’d join them together.
I can’t believe I hadn’t seen this sketch before (calling someone a “goofy bitch” just about killed me), also ignore how bad an actress Cardi B is.
I finished watching The Good Place and yes it was a good show. I don’t think l liked it as much as pretty much everyone else in my life who loved it, but it was definitely a good show. This scene was the best part of the finale, for sure. That song used in the scene will always elicit tears, I remember falling in love with it when it was used in the movie that everyone hated but me, Swept Away.
Again, I visited Everlane and it still disappoints. Why do I keep thinking it’ll be different each time? What the fuck is wrong with me?
I saw Parasite and it was wonderful and everyone who hasn’t seen it should see it. I haven’t heard from one person who didn’t like it. Universally liked!
I listened to the new Strokes single and hated it, so that’s something. Growth?
I haven’t seen the whole episode yet, but I really liked RuPaul’s SNL monologue.
Why isn’t everyone putting pickles on grilled cheese? Makes no sense. Fucking taste explosion.
I finally tried the (off-menu, must be requested when it’s not brunch) Cacio E Pepe at L’Artusi and holy christ, it might be better than their mushroom ragu. I KNOW. Such wild developments! (They also started serving at lunch, but only lunch delivery, not dine-in. SO this means nothing to me.)
I think I will officially stop buying candles from Bath & Body Works. The ones at Marshalls are cheaper, last longer and the variety of scents is endless. I have a candle from Marshalls right now simply called STORM and it really does kinda smell like stormy weather. Obviously I’m waiting for a thunderstorm to light that mother. I have mental issues?
I watched the newest season of Shrill (no big spoilers ahead) and loved it, obviously. The disappointing-ness of parents is so nicely shown (that moment at the restaurant when she asks her dad what he thinks of her boyfriend and he’s so indifferent, ugh so perfect), I absolutely LOVED the wedding episode (infact all of the episodes following that one are the best ones, I think I just love the episodes not centered about this not-great relationship with her and her boyfriend), the WEHAM episode is perfect (finally someone making fun of makeup for for legs), and I continue to love the character Fran. Really hoping for a third season, especially based on the season finale.
Don’t ask me why, but I watched most of the Police Academy movies and I think the Miami one might be the best one?? I couldn’t make it twenty minutes into the Moscow one, so I feel like you might want to trust me when I say that I know what I’m talking about.
These are my new favourite leggings of all time, they feel like you’re wearing nothing at all.
Cannot get over the beauty of these women and these outfits.

I watched the Michelle Carter documentary and I don’t know how other people feel, but it’s absolutely unreal that she was found guilty. Of course Nathan disagrees.
I ate at Frank for the first time in over a decade with the one and only Irene and it’s still great. Love that they do the opposite of al dente pasta here. Photos below.

I can’t find a link for them online, but I bought some reusable Leak Proof Snack Bags by Kitchen Details at Nordstrom Rack and they’re perfect since we typically use a million of those disposable ones for holding sunflower seeds and almonds
I threw out a lot of clothing/shoes/bags, so I went out and bought some things that I absolutely love. I now have a faux fur, brown evening coat that I’ve long dreamed of owning, a new everyday purse, a vintage, gold, mesh evening purse, new everyday shoes, more sunglasses and some new wedges that may or may not replace the older wedges I’ve had since 2006 (the ones lovingly referred to as my Terminators because of the massive fall that I took in them upon exiting the movie Terminator Salvation). I could show you all of the new pieces, but I’d much rather slide into a room you’re in to show you my new fur coat. However if it annoys you not to see any of these new things that bring my joy, here are two of them.
Tumblr media
Above Photo: Classic Reeboks from DSW

I’ve actually started using tiny drops of facial oil mixed with my nighttime face lotion and even though I’ve only just started to do this, my face is already way less dry when waking up. I don’t know if I can do this in the hotter weather, but for now I’ll keep it up.
I know all of these are old songs, but I recently heard and fell in love with this Taylor Swift song. And this one. And this one. Oh and this one too.
I went to Giorgio’s of Gramercy again (the last time was a few years ago with Nathan) and it’s still great! I haven’t had a steak in awhile, but the one here? Holy hell. Magnificent.
I went to see the new Kubrick 2001 exhibit at the Museum of the Moving Image and it was pretty neat. They have one of his Oscars on display in a case, which was actually really cool to see.
I read and reviewed a biography of Johnny Carson that truly sucked.
So Nathan and I are in the middle of watching McMillion$ and can I just say: boooooooooooooooo. I’ve never seen a “documentary” more over-produced, self-indulgent, superfluous and WILDLY overdone. It’s a bloody six part series that could’ve EASILY been an hour and a half movie. If you ever need proof of a documentary having too much money spend, my god have you found it. Of COURSE Mark Wahlberg has something to do with it, this man needs to fucking STOP. I know they are countless other men attached to the project too, but it’s much easier to shit on just him. God, what a waste of time. The Wikipedia page is more succinct.
I watched To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before 2: P.S. I Still Love You and it was everything I wanted it to be and more. Loved the Adventures in Babysitting reference right off the top (I’ll forever love that movie and it doesn’t get talked about enough), I loved pretty much every musical choice (these are my top three songs from the movie), and I loved the idea of doing another Thanksgiving in March (although I’m pretty sure Chrissy Teigen did this a few years ago and planted that great seed in my head). Definitely the best thing on Netflix at the moment.
Seeing this restored footage of NYC in 1911 is both exciting and eerie as hell, for some reason.
Nathan and I went to the Raptors game that ended their winning streak, sorry about that.
I’ve been consumed with reading so much stuff about what’s going on right now and this was a little helpful: 4 Practical Ways to Prepare Your Home for a Pandemic. Don’t judge me for sharing this link! I’m delirious.
Things that I’m looking forward to this month: visiting Collingwood and going skiing with my family, I might splurge and get that mini birthday cake from Momofuku Milk Bar, and the new season of On My Block comes out on the 11th. I’m pretty into the idea of turning 35, usually I’m more jacked about my birthday month but I think I’m too down to care at the moment. Caring coming soon.
If you’ve got any interest in reading last month’s roundup, you can see what went down in January over here.

sannidhyeah: I definitely agree, I'm totally a fanfic reader and seriously, fusion fanfic has always been my favorite. Its nice to imagine Derek and Stiles to be in a fusion especially if its my favorite movies or something. And I totally thankful to all writers who willingly wrote some of it, like, you guys are the best and for me, for someone who doesn't know how to write a fanfic, I totally enjoy it and this is from reader perspective. whether if its gifsets, fanfic or anything, I love it wholeheartedly. Keep continue what you are doing and thank you for all of your efforts.
yes! fusion fics make me really happy, especially when they’re from iconic chick flicks because those are the types of movies that always make someone laugh and that’s the main goal for me as a gif maker when I do this type of sets. I’m glad to have the support of people like you! fusions are great
homemadesterekpie: people can be so fucking rude wtf. Im so sorry you had to deal with this.
<3 it’s ok, I was just pissed off because of the entitlement and how condescending the person was. I’m not even angry anymore, just baffled lol
youfancymemaddearie: This is horse shit. They can kindly scamper away and make their own shit. I love your gifsets and what the ever living hell is wrong with making a gay version of a hetero thing? Nothing. That's the answer. So they can shove it. *many hugs*
thank you so much, i’m glad you like my edits <3 and yeah! honestly! we can turn het things gay all we want, what kind of bullshit are they playing at...
stileswithderek: People are such assholes. Just block em. The gif sets you create are always awesome.
thank you <3 i usually don’t block people here, but i might do it, i don’t need assholes ruining things that make me happy *sigh*
minus-moscow: I'm so sorry you got this kind of comment. I'm so grateful for all the amazing American Assassin gifsets that have been produced since the trailer releases. Thank you so much for your time and effort and know that most are very grateful and appreciative 💙
our fandom always comes up with AUs when we get new hoechlin/dylan material and it makes me so happy! i’m more pissed off they tried to ruin that for me by being entitled idiots. thank you so much, people like you are the reason i love sharing edits here <3
bibliosexxual: That comment from afanofmanystuffs was so condescending and terrible. Yikes
it really was! the tone is the reason I decided to react to it today. Usually I ignore comments like this, but that was so condescending i couldn’t just move on from it
demonicmusuko: those dumb assholes are not worth getting angry with. they are just as pathetic as trash that can be found in city dumps
they really are! i wouldn’t have wasted time on it on a normal day, but for this particular set I got the same type of comment from 3 people and this one was so annoying i had to say something
gfdisterek: I’ll delete the reblog later if you’d like, since you marked the post as “delete later” but. Holy shit this is so rude? Who cares if it’s based off something you don’t like? I guarantee with the new material coming out we’re going to get lots of assassin au’s - or will if self-centered pricks like you don’t ruin it for the rest of us. @sterek, try not to let the few assholes get you down. I know the majority of us appreciate your work (and I for one am totally here for Mr & Mr Smith)....
it’s ok! you don’t have to delete it! and yeah, i will totally keep making edits and I might even go back to the assassin/spy AUs I was planning on, I’m just annoyed right now, you know? thank you for the support tho!
alexanderhale: People are so rude and entitled these days. Honestly, I hope you don't take anything they say to heart and keep up the amazing work that you do!
tbh now I’m not really hurt by it or anything, I was just super annoyed when I woke up after a horrible night to find that comment. I will keep making edits tho! thank you <3
restlesscreature: What an ass. The gif set is awesome. I'll never understand the motivation people have to share negative, unwarranted opinions when coming across fandom works that don't fit their particular preference. Want to see/read/watch something different?  Make it yourself. You created something as an expression of your fandom experience and shared it freely. Thank you!
thank you <3 and yeah I just wish people would get that! there are SO MANY works on tumblr alone, it’s the easiest to scroll past something you don’t like! I don’t need everyone to love what I make, it’s not realistic, people are gonna dislike it or even hate it. But all I make is free, they didn’t pay for it, therefore they have no right to be entitled bastards
greyswarens: As someone who loves rom coms and sterek i'm so happy whenever i see them together? thank you for putting all the work and time into your work! the haters can go fuck themselves your edits are amazing and truly a gift to this fandom!!
rom coms are silly af but they are fun! queer people deserve rom coms too! and since hollywood won’t give us any we have the right to do something for ourselves without getting condescending comments about how it’s not for us. ugh. thank you tho <3 all you guys are the gift to this fandom to be honest, you’re the reason i enjoy being here so much despite the bullshit. <3

otayuri as... batcat....
Fam, I am so sorry. I wrote 2k of Otayuri dramatic superhero AU before realizing you requested Batman/Catwoman dynamics. If it helps, picture the Hero of Kazakhstan having no idea how to handle Yuri dressed like Chat Noir from Miraculous Ladybug. Maybe I should write that next?
Superhero AU
In which there is very little skating but the universal constants in Yuri Plisetsky’s life are Victor ruining everything and Otabek Altin’s distracting jaw line.
Before Yuuri Katsuki, Yuri Plistsky is happy.
All he has ever wanted is to be a superhero, and his dream is real after years of injuries, training, and trauma.
They have a good thing going, a well-oiled machine of badassery and rage. Yakov has been training superheroes for decades, since the 1970s when having a secret identity was still outlawed in Russia. He and Lilia even lead the revolution and protests for heroes to retain separate personas.
(And like everything Lilia involves herself in, she wins.)
Lilia’s elastic bones enabled a terrifyingly electric career as a ballerina.
Yakov’s power of flight and telekinesis made him a masterful hero and a terrible task master of Russia’s secret hero development program and leader of St. Petersburg’s heroes.
Civilians know him as a businessman. A few assume mob connections but Yuri’s hung out in enough malls, alleyways, and schools to know people pretend ignorance of Yakov’s identity. Because it means something to him. Jesus.
Under Yakov and Lilia, Yuri P (20, abnormal flexibility, spite, and ability to communicate with animals) thrives, protecting St. Petersburg with:
Mila (23, controls fire, and makes jokes about having no chill that Yuri would rather kill himself than hear again).
Georgi: (27, an actual fucking witch who can’t keep his shit together depending on his heartbreak or the lunar cycle)
The lunar cycle thing is bullshit, just an excuse for his really emotional days.
And…the ice-man cometh himself.
Victor (28) is a dick. Victor is a dick, thinking with his dick. Only that asshole would go to charity dinner celebrating the Sochi Grand Prix and fall in love with a fucking ice skater named Yuuri Katsuki (24) INSTEAD OF GUARDING THE PLACE.
The dude was drunk and likely doesn’t remember who Victor is, but did that stop him from rushing home to Yakov’s training space, squeeing about soulmates? No.
Victor trashes the place in his haste to pack, leaving destruction and a garish, proud note, “Retiring to Japan for love!” in his wake.
Years prior, when Victor was 14 and successfully adopted by Yakov, he asked if Victor would like to continue skating or go into ‘the family business’ of protecting St. Petersburg
The dick just had to become the best superhero Russia ever had. Fuck people with ice powers in Russia. They have to do nothing and get all the credit. Fuck Victor.
Naturally, they can’t let Victor go without a fight, but, plot twist, THE ONLY ONE TO REMAIN IN RUSSIA IS YURI P.
Yakov follows his dipshit son out of foolish, displaced loyalty (everyone knows he wants to meet his prospective new in-law)
Lilia looks on with disgust. Yuri inherited this look from her.
In hysterics, Mila and Georgi are not missing out on this. Besides, Mila knows about the hot springs. She’d literally light anyone on fire who tried to stop her. Georgi lives to see Victor get yelled at. Yuri can relate.
“We deserve this Yuri. We’ve dealt with him longer.”
“Assholes, you didn’t live with him and Yakov for the past decade!”
So Yuri P stays home with Lilia because someone needs to actually do their damn job around here.
“Are you sure you’re not jealous that Katsuki threw himself at Victor and not you?”
“Shut up hag!” There are not posters of Yuuri Katsuki’s skating in his bedroom, despite what she insinuates.
There are. Many.
More importantly, Katsuki’s a fucking civilian. Dating those is a death sentence. Look at half the superhero community for proof.
Yakov isn’t irresponsible. Just his children are. So he contacts a few old friends to see who wouldn’t mind covering for his missing team while they’re out of the country.
Yuri isn’t good at interacting with the teen girls who mob crime scenes during danger.
Yuri thinks if they’re stupid enough to stay when someone is shooting thunderbolts from the sky, he doesn’t need to save them. This is natural selection trying to work things out.
Honestly, part of the reason they want Victor to come home is because he’s the only one who handles the public well.
When Yuri was 17, he was nearly strangled by a supervillain because Mila and Victor were busy entertaining the crowd by melting ice to water and then freezing it into ice sculptures.
Yuri should have stayed in Moscow
(Tragic backstory of civilians-heroes dating in his family and always dying)
“Fuckers, I can protect the city on my own. I basically do already!”
“Language!”
“Lilia, it’s true! Last month Georgi was too busy crying and almost let a bank robber escape.”
Despite his compelling arguments and temper tantrums, no one listens to Yuri. The story of his life.
On a bleak January morning, two foreign gifts arrive for Yuri:
A postcard from Mila describing how amazing Yuuri Katsuki and his town are. Using a lighter, he watches it burn with deep satisfaction.
A man from Kazakhstan, flanked by a duo of pale losers, marches into Yakov’s training center, unarguably the prime superhero compound in the country.
(”In Europe,” Victor has been known to drunkenly proclaim until reminded it’s a secret, asshole)
The two men are dressed in nondescript suits, clean-cut but scuffed shoes. Bureaucrats from Russia to help the paperwork and assistant coaches.
Ugh.
The other man? He’s broad shouldered, compact but graceful as he navigates the wild superpowers and children training under Yuri’s less than watchful eye. He’s at least three centimeters shorter than Yuri yet intimidating and imposing, standing in front of a window as the gray skies outside outline his body.
Yuri is disgusted to note the man is wearing sunglasses indoors, and uses that fact to justify ignoring that his jaw is better cut than any diamond or how large his biceps appear under his leather jacket. This man stares at Yuri, like an old friend rediscovered. Yuri growls.
“Who the hell are you?” Yuri asks, hackles raised while the bureaucrats realize they’re in over their heads in assuming Lilia hasn’t been running things with brutal effectiveness since Yakov left.
It does not matter that people have been collapsing in exhaustion or crying during training. Fucking Yakov has clearly been coddling people if three weeks with Lilia has broken their spirit.
Yuri despairs of what will happen once he retires.
This city is going to wither and die.
“Otabek Altin,” the stranger replies, taking off his glasses and tucking them into a pocket. At least he didn’t put them on his head. Hesitating for a short moment, he reaches a hand out to Yuri, who decides to grasp it as firmly as possible.
Altin doesn’t even wince, handshake powerful and strong. Impressed, Yuri smirks and thinks Altin won’t be so bad.
Naturally, Yuri is right. Otabek, Beka, proves himself an indispensable revelation, a gift from Kazakhstan requested by Yakov to help out in training.
His scowl terrifies their cockier recruits but calms the students skittish when people without powers train them. Unlike countless others before him, no one questions if Otabek should be present, despite his lack of laser beams or telepathy.
Proudly, Yuri calls Mila and tells her to keep enjoying Japan, for Beka is doing a better job than any of them ever had in training and supporting him.
“How rude Yura!”
In the background of one such call, Victor is building an impromptu ice rink for Yuuri on a beach while Yakov and his beloved scream about his usage of powers.
“Do they know who Victor is?” Yuri already knows the answer to this question.
“Well. They love him regardless, and that’s all that matters to Yakov,” Mila offers brightly.
But back to Beka, wonderful, thoughtful Beka who understands what Yuri wants before he asks, patiently listens as he whines about the villains he has faced and his annoying colleagues.
Beka hums encouragingly every time he collapses against his warm shoulder during practice, allows him to nestle his chin against his collarbone.
Lilia doesn’t hate him. Clearly Beka isn’t a regular civilian but powered by miracles and effort.
Occasionally, when he stops raving about Beka to Lilia during dinner, he delicately broaches the topic of keeping him once those losers come home from vacation.
“He’s good for you,” Lilia states. He takes it as tacit approval to amp up his efforts to show off St. Petersburg.
Yakov will be overjoyed he’s found someone so capable to make up for the defects he calls teammates, Yuri decides.
It is a shame he cannot keep the Hero as well.
Nearly a month after Victor fled, Yuri breaks up a museum heist. Most of the criminals are normal, powerless, but the leader shoots plasma from a gauntlet on his hand.
Ice Tiger has successfully knocked out all but the jackass leaking liquid from his wrist, and cautiously moves around the columns at the front of the museum when jackass gets a lucky shot, and sends the columns Ice Tiger rests between into a crumbling mess.
Before Yuri can start swearing, and dodge, a man clad in all black, save for a dark blue belt, steps next to him and presses a palm against each column, steadying them. His mask spans the bridge of his nose, circling around to the back of his neck.
Yuri scampers away with, not stupid enough to hesitate or question during battle, and sends plasma jackass flying with a well placed kick to his upper chest.
He might have given him a collapsed lung, but Yuri cares more for the man standing behind him, nonplussed as he holds up tons of weight.
Once the police arrive and danger settled, Yuri impatiently drags the stranger up to the rooftop.
“Who the hell are you?”
The man blinks, but his dark costume and the pale snippets of moonlight make it impossible to determine the color of his eyes. Alarmingly, he pauses to consider his answer and Yuri wonders if debris concussed him. “Hero.” He finally settles on.
“Hero. Hero of what?” Yuri rolls his eyes in frustration.
“Hero of a far off land, where I use my strength to protect my people.”
“Why. are. you. here.” Yuri grits out between clenched teeth, frustrated he’s been saved, by the slowness of his conversation, and over the powerful upper body of this super-strength junkie. He’s shit at upperbody power, known for his lithe form and kicks. Mila regularly outlifts him.
“Yakov requested-”
“Motherfucker,” he yowls. Alley cats in the street below make noise in unison.
“Sorry for rescuing you,” Hero replies placidly.
“I had it under control!”
“Of course you did. You’re an excellent hero, but I thought it best to avoid more damage to the museum.” Yuri’s shoulders relax slightly at the sincere, admiring tone of Hero.
“Whatever. If Yakov sent you, I might as well make sure you don’t accidentally destroy my city.” For some reason, Yuri doesn’t loathe this guy, despite his nondescript costume or the assumption Yuri can’t protect the city alone.
“Thank you for your confidence,” he replies, tumbleweed dry, and Yuri muffles a laugh, oddly charmed and at ease.
“Do you normally dress like that?” Yuri can’t help but ask as he paces across the roof, preparing to jump down to a fire escape.
“No, I reserve my real costume for home.”
“Oh. Alright.” Better than nothing.
Cue a night of Hero being impeccable and charming and the best partner Yuri ever asked for
In the morning, Yuri will call Yakov and tell him how slowly the Hero aid he requested arrived but he doesn’t disapprove.
When Yakov hangs up the phone, he’ll turn to Mila and wonder if he imagined Yuri’s praise of Otabek Altin for the past week.
Mila laughs uncontrollably, once she pieces it together.
Victor is impossible to drag away, but Yakov refuses to give up, and Mila and Georgi refuse to abandon the show. Georgi might be trying to fall in love with a local girl. Yuri doesn’t want to know.
It means perfect weeks with Otabek in the day, sharing brunch. Beka takes on some of Yuri’s instructor duties (something he’s shit at anyway) so he can train with the upper level students.
Whenever possible Yuri tugs him out of the training center early, desperate to show off his city and give Beka a reason to stay.
Among the many perfect things about Otabek is his understanding of time. He never calls Yuri until the afternoon on weekends, because his week is busy with training in the day, fighting for half the evening.
He even orders “more sleep” when Yuri awakens before 1 PM on a Sunday and calls him. Beka is so thoughtful.
It means perfect weeks with Hero in the night, silent communication and a fearlessness Yuri’s never understood before. The crime rate keeps low so they explore St. Petersburg in the dark or sometimes they play, chasing each other across the rooftops or seeing how many cats Hero can carry, along with Yuri perched on his back.
Hero shares secrets more freely than Beka, the only complaint he has.
He’s waiting for someone to remember him.
His laugh is ugly when Yuri tells him no one is worth his time if they can’t remember Hero.
Yuri falls in love in the mornings, falls in love during the night.
Yuri doesn’t realize the trouble he’s in until early April, when Mila disrupts an early dinner with Beka to announce their return.
“A man held a gun to Yakov’s head and Yuuri punched him! Oh Yuri, you should have seen it. Victor’s still crying over his fiancee throwing himself into such peril for the family.”
“Did Yakov already disarm the gun with his powers?”
“Well yes, but Yuuri didn’t know that! Yakov’s charmed and helped Victor shop for a ring.”
“Wait, what?”
“Vakov approves! We’re coming home.”
A dial tone interrupts Mila’s explanation of their flight details.
Yuri has this huge night long panic as he figures out he’s in love with two people, doesn’t know what to do.
Falling in love with civilians is a death sentence. Just look at his family.
He loves Otabek far too much to put him at risk. So he lets him go.
Ultimately, he cares about Hero because he’s powerful and shares everything with Yuri. Yuri feels safer than he ever did with Mila or Victor or even Lilia who treats him like her own.
Someone needs to tell Yuri the only reason he feels this way is because part of him must realize its Otabek and only trusts him because its Otabek but god help him, he is slow and still doesn’t connect the two after over a month.
But then Yuri remembers Hero belongs to his own country, to another person. So he lets him go as well.
If a gun was put to his head, he’d pick Otabek anyway
The following few nights are awkward, as both understand there’s a countdown for Hero to leave.
On the final night, it is silent. Neither speaks as they guard the town. There is no goodbye, and Yuri feels like a failure.
The days are worse, as Yuri has the option to ask Otabek to stay because he doesn’t belong to Kazakstan the way Hero does to his country. Yuri nearly bites his own tongue off twenty times as he swallows down how badly he wants to beg Otabek not to leave.
He remembers every hero who loved and lost a civilian and refuses, even as he drives Otabek to the airport.
Otabek keeps staring at him, waiting for something he can never offer.
He departs, taking parts of Yuri with him.
Uh this is getting long and we’re at risk at me deleting this in favor of a 10k actual fic version of this so let me wrap up
Yuri sulks for weeks, is a beast to everyone
Beka returns after a month, as does Hero
(the person I’m waiting for is still here. Yuri is still clueless)
Beka’s life is at risk somehow as a civilian but separate from Yuri
Yuri realizes that danger can come regardless and commits to dating Otabek
Yuri tries to confess to Beka, but fucks up horribly, accidentally makes it seem like he’s settling for Beka because he can’t have Hero.
A lot of fucking drama, so much crying
Georgi screaming in the background about how he just left Japan, why is he dealing with this again
Eventually Yuri proves he’s wanted Beka the entire time, long drawn out love confession where he offers to leave Russia and being a superhero (what he loves most) behind if Otabek will have him
Beka is weak, so weak by love
Reveals he’s the Hero, specifically the Hero of Kazakhstan (super famous, super skilled, kick ass costume inspired by his skating uniform) and has known Yuri since they trained together as kids
Traumatic backstory where people always loved Hero, not Otabek
Yuri’s like “I love you for you, you could retire tomorrow, I still want to be here…WAIT NO YOU GOT TO RETIRE RIGHT NOW I DON’T WANT TO SEE YOU HURT OH MY GOD RETIRE”
Beka eventually calms him down and they live happily ever after. They spend vacations in Kazakhstan
“Beka, do they even have villains here?”
“Beka, do they even have a training program for heroes here?”
And a lot of time in Russia, where Otabek takes on Yuri’s training duties of baby superheroes/kids with powers while Yuri scouts and fights
Victor is offended no one thanks him at their wedding for setting this entire thing in motion.
I frantically typed this out so sorry for the bad spelling and sorry again for not following the prompt. Should I make this an actual fic?
Update 1/16: Here, it’s becoming a fic.
