ej says to val "i'm only doing this right now because you're leaving early" when he calls his dad. he says "i need some moral support."
so you're telling me he had to make the call prematurely because he didn't feel there was a single other person who could morally support him through this? not his cousin who he's had these kind of conversations with before, not his ex girlfriend who was shown to be a source of strength and support for him, not a single one of his friends from school would be willing or able?
he had to squeeze such an important call in before she left because she was the only one really on his side.
tl;dr ej deserves so much better.

the cancellation of 'how i met your father' is actually a much greater loss for television than i'm sure most people are going to give it credit for.
for starters, this show marked a big part of bringing back longer-format sitcoms, where seasons lasted 24 episodes and the idea was to follow the characters through several years of their lives, marking major life milestones, etc. it leaned into the comedy, both physical and witty, and allowed its audience the pleasure of following an assorted group of random but very close friends through shenanigans. it had the simple joy of good old fun.
it also seemed like a great example of very casual but genuine representation & diversity. one thing i loved about the show was how there was poc representation & lgbtq+ representation, but that wasn't the only thing those characters were there for. sid was a south asian man, but it didn't define him - even without that he would've been a fleshed out and interesting character. ellen was an east asian lesbian, and the same applied for her. in fact, her journey of self-love was an important part of her story, and yet it was not at all related to either aspect of her identity. (i know they weren't the only examples, but you get it.)
minorities were allowed to exist as humans, without existing only as minorities, which is a box many shows put their characters in, and it was nice to see it done well for a change. yes, it could have had even more diversity, but the point very much still stands, including in the fact that we never saw sophie's son because he could have been any race (a welcomed progression from the characteristic 00s all-white himym cast).
i know lots of people gave the 1st season a shot and didn't come back for the 2nd, because they found it forced and cringey and various other things.
but in s2 the writing and characters found their feet - the jokes were funnier, the stories were more enjoyable, the characters were more lovable, and it was clear that with time the show had grown into itself.
and it's a shame, for himyf, its fans & the sitcom genre as a whole, that this show will never be allowed any more time, never be afforded the opportunity, to keep growing, and conclude all those stories they set up.

one thing i LOVE about lockwood & co cast interviews is that the three of them seem like totally normal young people, especially in the way they speak.
none of them have been majorly in the spotlight from a very young age so were potentially subjected to slightly less rigorous media training, meaning they say things like "i see the vision" or make pop culture references like "do you wear wigs?" (the iconic elijah wood interview).
it's just extremely refreshing to hear them talk exactly like so many young people do nowadays and it makes them even more relatable and honestly likeable.
(and it helps that the people who edit the videos generally seem to emphasise that aspect, too!)

belly is going to break jeremiah's heart.
despite all her promises, she is going to break jeremiah's heart because she and conrad absolutely 100% have unfinished business. they didn't get the closure they needed, if we're being honest, and there is no way she is just going to leave things with him forever.
she doesn't know how to.

the part in s3 when eddie gets locked in the crypt really highlights how fabian is a sibuna veteran and kt is completely new to this stuff.
every time fabian gets suspicious, kt brushes it off with a comment about how skipping class or breaking rank is just classic eddie stuff - because to her, it is.
but fabian has been involved with (and a victim of) these shenanigans for far too long. he can tell instinctively when something is amiss because it has been too many times, so now it sets his radar blinking. that's why he can't brush off eddie's disappearance like kt can (not to mention, one of his best friends went missing for a full year, only for him to find out she'd literally been kidnapped by a cult operating within the school).
it's not just about him being the most intelligent. it's about him the most being experienced. fabian's spider senses are way too strong to put it down to eddie being eddie (and what do you know - fabian's right).

thinking about how much worse it is for patricia when she finds those messages in season 3 because in season 1 she was completely gaslit by everyone around her. they told her everything was fine, and she felt like she couldn't trust anyone. and then she was proven right.
so in s3, when eddie, a person who has pretty much fully earnt her trust, consistently tells her everything is fine and that he's not cheating on her (because, whaddya know, he isn't), and then she once again believes she's been proven right? that must have absolutely crushed her and taken her right back to two years ago, to being lied to and gaslit. no wonder that was what made her a sinner.

i still don’t think we talk enough about how heartbreaking it would be for ej caswell to be not his best self and lose a girl to ricky bowen, then go on a long hard journey of self-development and self-improvement, learning to be a more outward-looking & genuine person and finally begin to gain confidence in his new, better self and STILL lose a girl to ricky bowen.

i've been back in my gmw/lucaya phase for a little bit (yes, i know, i too am questioning what tf i am doing with my life) and just seeing maya after texas, where she might finally have a chance w lucas and she talks excitedly about what a great guy he is is heartbreaking.
because you know what's coming and you know she's about to shut herself off from that for someone else (because her hand was forced) and she's gonna invest herself in something that is almost definitely going to leave her hurting in the end.
and you watch her practically jumping out of her seat with glee because finally, she just might get to explore things with a guy she's liked for some time, and it breaks your heart because you know it's never going to be able to last.

i love how the whole taylor and travis situation has proven that 'he lets her bejeweled' has just become part of everyday swiftie vernacular. i cannot count the amount of times i've seen that phrase be used about travis in a completely casual and unremarkable way, and i for one absolutely love it

val saying to gina "when the right person comes along, you'll know" was ridiculous.
no way did they spend a whole episode last series on gina saying "the right guy's just gotta show up" and then have ej literally show up moments later, just for them to pull the exact same thing, with this time ej being the wrong guy????
why would you erase a whole season's worth of storytelling? why are you going back on what you said before?? where's the logic???????
