Best Angsty BLs with Family Drama & Bad Home Lives, or Past Trauma
That still end happily. Requested by the incomparable @winterswhumpblr (Warning these all have tiggers in them mostly suicide, rape, and/or child abuse.)
Tumblr media
Until We Meet Again
Thai 2019 YouTube
UWMA is, without question, a work of narrative genius with a powerful and cohesive romantic backbone driven by family drauma and betrayal and stellar performances. It is (to date) the only Thai BL that I’ve rated a 10/10 predominantly on the basis of story structure. That said it is also very well cast (and it’s a BIG cast), with solid production values, and enduring pair branding. Discussion here.
Spin off, Between Us, also satisfies this criteria.
Tumblr media
Blueming
Korea 2022 iQIYI
Hwang Da Seul directing this angsty BL that's a tiny bit dark and a tiny bit bittersweet, almost too honest to a university experience and first love. But if you want your mind ever-so-slightly messed with and your intimacy hellishly sweet, this BL will do it for you in a coldly distant manner, while bitch slapping you with self worth issues. I wasn’t into it at first, but the leads are solid and by ep 5 it got really good, becoming a narrative about self discovery meets understanding and accepting others people’s flaws without hurting them. Ultimately we witnessed two characters maturing because of each other and their mutual affection, without that affection becoming the conflict point. Instead, tension was built around other aspects of identity, popularity, and childhood trauma.
Tumblr media
Tokyo in April is AKA Shigatsu no Tokyo wa
Japan 2023 Viki
Two young men with a shared tragic past reunite and fall in love all over again, but the past will not stop hunting them. Based on a manga, this office set reunion romance is GREAT… damn it. It’s Japan in full on soft focus which means it gets emo, abusive, and chewy. These two characters are giving parts of their souls away in a desperate attempt to shape themselves to the expectations they have of each other.
Tumblr media
The Eighth Sense
Korea 2023 Viki
This feels more atmospheric gay coming of age romance than strictly BL. It’s got a bit of an age gap, country boy/city boy, stellar acting, complex characters, and leads with great chemistry and tension. It’s a bit chewy and sticky and less perfect than most KBLs (do I detect a touch of Taiwan?) This one deployed BL tropes (messy eater, shoulder sleep, protective seme, there’s even some hyung-slinging) but front loaded them with painful backstory and tons angst drives the 2nd half. This isn’t in the KBL bubble, there’s sharp edges and lots of triggers. For a BL the darkness of the content left me feeling unsettled (which is the only reason it didn't get a perfect score) but it does have a glorious ending and that counts for a lot.
Tumblr media
Bad Buddy
Thai 2022 YouTube
This was GMMTV’s flagship BL and it started 2022 on a BANG (okay no actual banging but you know what I mean), starring heavy hitters Ohm & Nanon in a pitch perfect university Romeo & Romeo masterpiece that will give you domesticity meets pain whiplash throughout and jet lag at the end. Some of the friendship and family dynamics are overworked, but it has great production values, killer acting, and some conscious effort to correct for half a decade of Thai BL’s anti-queer mistakes. The whole set up is build on family drama so, yeah.
Tumblr media
Bed Friend
Thai 2023 YouTube
Office frienamies transition a flaming hot one night stand into a f-buddy relationship that is built on a puppy/cat dynamic (and kinks into it at one point). Our puppy is loyal, smitten, and protective with endlessly longing eyes, while our cat is snarky, prickly, and deeply damaged. NetJames give lovely high-heat with excellent chemistry and tuned-in performances of surprising depth, could have been spectacular but was the story is overworked, especially at the end. Still if high heat is your thing, this one will not let you down.
Tumblr media
Lovely Writer
Thai 2021 YouTube
What Lovely Writer does, at heart, is reexamine Thai BL has done to queerness, but in a very gentle way that has more to do with Thai BL growing up than any actual queer authenticity. It’s not parody or pastiche, but it is self reflective and trying to correct for some chronic mistakes. Whether it is ultimately successful in this matter is going to depend on the watcher’s relationship to BL and queer identity. But that’s what makes this show beautiful, interesting, and thought provoking. And I, for one, applaud the effort even if I didn’t personally connect to the characters. There is both family trauma and dram and childhood stuff.
Tumblr media
Happy Merry Ending
Korea 2023 Viki
Stars Lee Dong Won (KNK) as an ex-idol turned wedding singer with an abusive ex and a panic disorder + the sunshine pianist who falls in love with him. Timid tsundere & sweetheart gay is an interesting match. They’re gentle together, almost kindly, and there is a calm ache to their pairing. However, it lost its way as a BL, being more about the main character’s struggle than the romance. It had a strong finish but ultimately the premise & characters meant this was never going to be one of my favorites. But if you like angst, well...
Tumblr media
Given
Japan 2021 grey
Boy joins band, falls in love with other boy. The singing is terrible, fast forward through that but with the possible exception of the hair styles, this BL could have been made in 2015 and no one would be surprised. As such, it wasn’t ground breaking, but it didn’t disappoint either. Very much a tortured past for our singer. (More here.)
Tumblr media
The Eclipse
Thai 2022 YouTube
GMMTV does gay Blacklist with a good boy/bad boy pairing. This is a good show but the cast is excellent and the leads are absolutely flawless, which elevates it beyond just good. We got a nuanced and multifaceted burgeoning relationship: philosophical (and socio-political) conflict contrasted to moments of empathy; flirtation contrasted to moments of genuine affection, plus plenty of angst. This narrative is less about love than it is about courage and tenderness. However, near the end the pacing was off and the plot frustrating. Still, this is an enjoyable watch, with a finale that features verbal consent and a fun blooper reel.
Tumblr media
Love Class 2
Korea 2023 Viki
3 couples form within a semester of university: 1. a hyung romance reunion of exes, one of whom has a dangerous past, 2. a friends to lovers romance, and 3. a one night stand between a mature student and a TA (many aspects of which had me laughing). I enjoyed the characters and dialogue of this show immensely. It was a little bit more breezy and friendly than I was expecting after the first installment, Love Class (to which this bears little resemblance and no connection). I’m not entirely sure Korea can handle multiple couples like this because it definitely felt disjointed, especially with the 3rd more mature couple (also my favorite) who probably should’ve had their own series. But I enjoyed something different from Korea.
Tumblr media
About Youth
Taiwan 2022 Gaga
A truly lovely little coming of age high school BL with a classic YA low drama but high angst and an earnest depth. I didn’t even mind the singing, and that’s saying a lot. A weak seme/uke dynamic but tons of BL tropes (both rare in a high school setting but common for Taiwan) makes this one feel both sweet and colored by an almost real world authenticity and grit. More here.
Tumblr media
Restart After Come Back Home AKA Risutato wa tadaima no ato de
Japan 2020 Gaga?
Atmospheric study in rural Japan meets complex family dynamics built on a romance framework of city boy meets country boy, grumpy/sunshine. It’s beautiful and icy sweet. Slow moving in places but ultimately worth the patience, low heat, low angst, and stunning.
Tumblr media
DNA Says Love You
Taiwan 2022 Gaga
DNA deserves extra marks for an upbeat approach to a queer story arc that other shows have systemically mishandled with sadness (in the guise of realism). There is a twist, which I found predictable, but knowing what would happen didn't spoil this show. The leads are luminous and engaging, and it’s full of queer found family representation and an unexpected amount of domesticity, plus it’s Taiwan, so the kisses are great. The first few eps are rough going but have patiences, it's worth it as the last ones really are special and life/love affirming - and the end is big-grin charming.
Tumblr media
My Tooth Your Love
Taiwan 2023 Viki
Earnest dentist hottie with sad eyes who worries too much is smitten by an adorable sunshine neurotic bar owner with serious anxiety issues. They fall madly in love while courting each other with food, plushies, and naps. Then, shocker, talk about their feelings and try to actually sort out their problems so they can have an adult relationship. Bonus crumbs = 18 year old poor little rich kid in mad crush with a much older man. I really enjoyed this show, it had a unique premise, killer dialogue, there was a solid lead pair with charming chemistry, soft flirtation, delightful smiling kisses, and stinkingly cute domesticity.
Tumblr media
Where Your Eyes Linger
Korea 2020 Viki
Ostensibly high school set about a poor kid whose been raised in a mafia kid’s family specifically to protect him (whipping boy trope, attack dog variant). Themes of codependency and survival with pretty classic Korean style romance ending.
Tumblr media
TharnType
Thai 2019 Viki
This Thai BL has everything: university setting, great acting and complex characters, interesting friendship groups, enemies to lovers, angsty coming out, high production values, AMAZING chemistry, and multiple BL side couples with all the issues. But when I said everything I meant it because there's also: damaging queer rep, strong seme/uke and husband/wife language, classic tropes and lots of them, child abuse, bullying, mental illness, rough play, dub-con, non-con, and statutory rape (by the seme/gay character).
and its spin off: Don't Say No also qualifies for this post.
In fact most Mame stuff will involved trauma & drama, specifically.
Love By Chance 2
Love in the Air (Part 2)
Wedding Plan
Some others but I'm getting tired:
I Told Sunset About You et al
You Are Mine
Dear Doctor, I'm Coming for Your Soul
Ghost Host Ghost House
But frankly there are a ton more depending on how you look at it. I mean, what about Why R U? FIghter's dad is the issues with him coming out, but it's not really in the plot until late so ?
Lakorn BL drama llama soaps & similar
Moonlight Chicken - review here
Laws of Attraction
To Sir, With Love - review here
Sirs not appearing on this list
Our Dining Table is driven by childhood trauma but not angsty, similar to Oxygen. Not Me is angsty and dramatic and family stuff, but that's not really the driver of the plot. Life Love On the Line is all angst but he brought it on himself.

Can someone please explain to me what "soft feminine power" is? This is not a rhetoric question and I'm not being ironic, I genuinely do not know what that means. In my language we don't have the equivalent of this. There is no feminine or masculine power, there is only power, either you have it or you don't. If you are a woman in a patriarchal society you can gain power up to a certain level by using """""feminine""""" means, but that's not "soft feminine power" that's literally victimized, restrained women trying to survive with the means that they have left. It's not something one should glamorize or wish for. It is just a reality for some women. When Barbara Stanwyck in Baby Face, a woman forced to prostitute herself by her father since she was 14 yo finally gets away from him and starts having sex with men for her own profit and to forward her own interests in order to climb the social hierarchy, that's not "soft feminine power". That is what a woman had to do to survive. She sold her looks and her body and her nice words, she manipulated men and used them in every possible way in order to gain power, and she did. She didn't start a feminist revolution, no, she didn't take a gun. But there is nothing "soft" here, this is the very opposite of soft. This is an extremely determined person who is resilient and hard as a rock and cuts through life like a razor. There is nothing inherently feminine in this either. It's something that women had to do because of patriarchy yes, but it is not a "feminine" trait. What about all these men that sell sex to survive, because they are homeless or underage or immigrants or very weak for whatever reason? If you are at the bottom of the social ladder and don't have any direct power to do absolutely anything to improve your circumstances then you have got to find other indirect ways to do that and you need to use manipulation and exploit yourself and your looks in order to survive. It is a necessity. It is not hashtag soft feminine power. It is not something to wish for especially today in the sense that, oh, actually I don't want to be direct and forward with what I want and what I believe I deserve, I prefer using my "soft feminine power" instead. You don't know what the fuck you are talking about. "A lady's armour is courtesy" is not something that should be even remotely associated with hashtag "soft feminine power". It's just what Sansa has been told from birth and it's the only thing she values about herself or others. Our problem with Sansa isn't that we dislike "soft feminine power" it's that she was a bully and painfully superficial and self-absorbed and reactive and her vices as a character were one of the factors that caused the horrible ending of the first book and nothing about this is even remotely "soft" or "feminine" or "powerful" or even close to getting her any form of actual power. It is literally not about that. I want Sansa to actually grow as a person and her arc is already about that and her journey in KL was very important and kudos for her because she managed to survive but people's dislike on her has nothing to do with the fact that she keeps her "femininity" but for the particularly negative role she played in the narrative of the first book and the fact that apart from surviving, she hasn't offered much thematically or narratively, yet.
My point is, the phrase "soft feminine power" literally has no meaning and is either used to 1) glamorize the struggles of marginalized individuals to survive or 2) conceal actual character flaws like lack of backbone or extreme conformism.

If you have a people that works hard, improvise, finds ways to provide for their family, comes what may, they will become the backbone of our country its inevitable.
In an over bloated socialist country that hates its own values, replaced
by government programs; those having hard work ethic will take the country and threw out the free loading bums once in power.
There is nothing stronger than the family unit who works
together to survive where members works for the love of the family.
Our country is starving for directions lost without values; watch migrant family work, you see what we've gained is a loss!
Matt.25:29 For to everyone who has will be given, and he will have abundance, but from him who doesn't have, even that which he has will be taken away

Villain Comparisons
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A wild pairing (I know) but there is merit to comparing them both.
Hazbin Hotel and Murder Drones spoilers below (two shows I deeply recommend anyone for watching for really different reasons). I'll try to minimise spoilers.
TL;DR and image transcripts at the bottom.
Firstly, introductions.
Sir Pentious is a former human who ended up in hell and now in pursuit of peer acceptance has become easily manipulated and turned to a life of evil; his desires also lead him to become easily manipulated by people like Vox. He takes on the form of a snake, a creature surrounded with assumptions of evil.
Doll Yurikova is Russian robot from a 'race' formerly enslaved by humanity and corporate greed; due to the experiments conducted on her mother Yeva, Doll became cursed—giving her eldritch powers and driving her to insanity. At a young age she was forced to watch both her parents die at the hands of the genocidal Disassembly Drones and now seeks revenge and to learn the truth about her curse, hoping to find a cure.
(no prizes on guessing which show is darker)
The reason I think this comparison is worth making is because they're both redeemable characters and die a sad, tragic death against the main antagonist who they had zero chance at even scratching... but I think Murder Drones pulls it off better.
Firstly, from the pilot and episode 1, Sir Pentious seems evil for the thrill—he enjoys the destruction, turf wars, and rivalries—but once he enters the happy hotel (calling it that to avoid confusion with the title), these traits seem to disappear. His rivalry turns to crushing and motives seem to shift more towards peer acceptance as mentioned above (he is still has a fascination with war machines but to me that never comes across as evil).
Doll, on the other hand, is straight up a psychopath. She kills without remorse or reason, she's a cannibal, and keeps the corpses of her dead parents in her home. Most of this is because of her curse but not entirely—unlike Uzi with the same curse, Doll shows no remorse or regret for her actions.
Secondly, Sir Pentious is weak AF. He loses every fight he is in. This is meant to be used as comedic value and also to show how he doesn't really belong but its so lame how even in the final battle he is worthless.
Doll, on the other hand, is an utter menace. The only reason the main cast one there first fight with her was because Uzi was immune to her magic and got distracted when her mothers bracelet broke. Doll outclasses the main cast making her a real tangible threat.
Thirdly, Sir Pentious main character flaw is that his is too weak against peer pressure and so his arc is to grow a backbone and act as his own person and not care what others think of him which is what the happy hotel is supporting him with. This is not a critique.
Doll's, on the other hand, main weakness is separate to her motives. She is unwilling to work with others, she fights alone and isolates herself from the world. This is in direct contrast with Uzi who is willing to work with others and understand there past mistakes. So for Doll to start her journey of redemption, she has to accept others into her life which I cannot stress enough is always an option for her, Uzi is constantly wanting to cooperate.
Lets begin wrapping this up—with there final scenes.
The battle of Heaven and Hell, Hell is losing. Realising this Sir Pentious decides he needs to lead the charge head on—he kisses his crush and charges forward in his own death machine attacking Adam head on... then his killed immediately before he can fire a single shot.
The most obvious thing is that this death is not narratively satisfying, he could have landed one hit weakening Adam but no Adam was just too strong of a threat that he didn't even need to even bother.
Then, even though he was killed by an angelic weapon (its kinda murky what Adams blast is exactly...), he gets redeemed... I know they can kill off characters, they did it to Dazzle, but I understand that it would be very dark. The problem is that it defeats the concept of 'a selfless act'. doing a selfless act isn't "do something because later you'll be rewarded", it's "do something because its the right thing to do".
Now onto Doll, who's death takes place in three different scenes. The first scene comes in two parts; the first Doll gets the jump on Tessa (who is just a woman with a longsword) and they fight and even with Dolls teleportation and telekinesis, she is unable to land a hit on Tessa. The fight ends with Tessa landing two strikes, one cutting off Dolls eye patch and the other disarming her. This works well to show that Tessa is a real threat while not undermining Dolls skill.
The next half of the scene, leaving Doll alone in the dark, Tessa disappears. An impossible feat in a narrow tunnel. Doll begins to panic and when she finally see's Tessa its too late, she can do nothing and dies. This is so important because it shows just how outmatched; Doll was utterly helpless. This works because of the previous scene which cemented the fact Doll is competent.
So Doll dies without redeeming herself. A real bitter song, she forced herself to live in isolation refusing every chance she was given only to never be given the chance, dying confused and lone just like like how she lived. But her deaths not over.
The second scene shows Doll stumbling out of a hellish pit, her torso ripped apart and entrails pooling out. Her last act before collapsing was leaving the message "дать отпор" (fight back). Her final act was to try and help Uzi, a real glimmer that for her redemption was truly possible but (that she's dead) out of reach.
The final scene is just a simple kick in the teeth, we watch as 'Tessa' devours her entrails, a real mockery... basically Liam Vickers saying "oh she is dead! I cannot stress that fact enough!". Utterly brutal.
Sir Pentious was evil, went searching for redemption, and got everything.
Doll is evil, refused all calls for redemption, and got nothing.
tl;dr
So overall, Murder Drones pulls of tragic character death better because
Doll isn't just a walking punching bag.
It was made explicitly clear that she lost because Tessa was stronger and not because she was weaker.
the show doesn't pull any punches unlike Hazbin hotel which immediately revives Sir Pentious.
Is Sir Pentious a bad character? No, I think he had a mediocre death.
Again, watch both shows. Hazbin Hotel is a great and fun comfort show while Murder Drones is a lot heavier but full of so much small detail it has great rewatchability. Being so different its less about which is better and entirely about which you prefer.

Eat From The Side Of The Road
Welcome to the buzzing world of the locavore movement, where your food choices become a powerful statement about sustainability, community support, and personal health. As locavores, the idea is simple yet profound: prioritize food that’s grown or produced within your local region, ideally through direct relationships with farmers and artisans. This isn’t just about enjoying fresh, flavorful meals—it’s a journey towards a more sustainable and equitable food system.
So, why make the shift towards a hyperlocal diet? It all starts with the intersection of politics and food. Every purchase you make is a vote for the kind of world you want to live in. When you choose locally sourced food, you’re advocating for reduced transportation emissions and less packaging waste. Moreover, you’re making a political statement that you stand for small-scale, sustainable farming practices that often fall by the wayside in industrial agriculture debates. Eating locally isn’t just a culinary preference; it’s a political action that supports the environment and local economies.
Farm-to-table isn’t just a trendy term; it’s one of the backbones of the locavore movement. This concept stretches beyond just buying and eating local—it involves building relationships with the people who grow your food. Imagine biting into a crisp apple picked from an orchard a few miles away or savoring a slice of bread made from wheat grown and milled in your vicinity. This connection deepens one’s appreciation for food and informs more conscious eating practices.
Tumblr media
However, being a locavore also means being adaptive and seasonal in your eating habits. It’s about syncing with nature’s cycles and not the supermarket shelves. Yes, this might mean forgoing strawberries in the winter or waiting patiently for the first tomatoes of summer, but the reward is a reconnection with the natural rhythm of your local ecosystem. Plus, seasonal food is at its peak in both nutrients and flavor—a win-win for your body and your palate.
Let’s not forget the economic impact. When you buy local, your money stays within the community, bolstering the local economy and enabling farmers to keep producing spectacular food. It’s a sustainable model that fosters community resilience, ensuring that local producers can survive and thrive even when global food markets are volatile.
While the benefits of becoming a locavore are plentiful, embracing this lifestyle isn’t without its challenges. One of the primary hurdles is accessibility; depending on where you live, finding a consistent and varied supply of local foods can be difficult, especially in urban areas or regions with limited agricultural production. The cost can also be a barrier for many, as small-scale, sustainable farming practices often result in higher prices compared to mass-produced food due to the more labor-intensive methods used. Additionally, adjusting to a seasonal diet means that the availability of certain favorite foods can be limited during off-seasons, requiring a shift in eating habits and meal planning. Despite these challenges, the effort to overcome them not only supports a sustainable lifestyle but also fosters creativity in the kitchen as you learn to use what is locally available in new and exciting ways.
Tumblr media
If you’re looking to dive deeper into the locavore lifestyle, start with your local farmers’ market or sign up for a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) box. Engage with local food guides and apps that connect you with local eateries and food producers. Remember, becoming a locavore is not about perfection; it’s about making more mindful, informed choices whenever possible. Every small change contributes to a larger shift towards a sustainable future. So, why not let your next meal be a reflection of your values and a step towards a better world? Join the locavore movement and taste the difference—it’s delicious here!

[ matchmaking... ]
@imjustabeanie : [ match report ready ]
Tumblr media
your match is…
✦ Wyll Ravengard
Tumblr media
-> While Wyll vehemently wants to protect the good and the innocent, he has also done things that most would frown upon. Namely, making a literal deal with a devil for power. Granted, one could argue that he was cornered into it… But he firmly states that he has never once regretted it, despite what it all means for him. His partner would need to understand these things about him and not condemn or mock him for what he did - they would need to be someone who understands that morals are important, but not always black-and-white. And really, the thing that’s important to him in a partner is that they won’t harm the innocent, that they’re willing to stand up to injustice if needed. And though you note that morals aren’t your strong suit, you’ve still identified that your intentions are largely good, and that you have the backbone to call people out if need be.
-> He loves exchanging book recommendations with you. Much of his youth was spent studying the blade, but it was still important for him to be well-read on top of that. However, Wyll hasn’t been able to focus too terribly much on reading since his pact with Mizora and getting banished from his home in Baldur’s Gate. Most of his time since then has been spent on protecting the Sword Coast, traveling, and doing Mizora’s bidding. He still likes to read, he just doesn’t get around to doing much, only occasionally picking up a book here and there when he’s staying a few days in a village and able to relax. So when he finds himself in your company and he sees you with a book in your hands quite often, he likes to hear about what you’re reading and if you think it’s any good. In terms of genre, Wyll isn’t picky - so your selections of mystery and horror are well received by him, and he’ll let you know of any books he knows of that might suit your tastes.
-> Generally, Wyll thinks ambition is a good thing, something that gives someone purpose. Of course, there are prime examples just within your little band of traveling companions how too much ambition could lead to significant consequences (namely Gale, potentially Astarion)… But he’d still prefer to be with someone who has some sort of goal in mind, some sort of direction. It’s a clear indication that there’s something that matters to you, that you’re willing to put a plan into action to achieve whatever goal you set for yourself. As long as your ambitions aren’t nefarious or detrimental to yourself and others, he’ll be your biggest supporter. Even if your goals are a little selfish! Once he comes to care about someone, he wants to see them safe and happy and healthy. And when it comes to his partner, he’s very firm on doing things as a team, so you can count on him to have your back.
-> He sometimes winces when your honesty is a little too sharp, too hurtful. True as your words are, they can still cut and inflict pain. And yet, at the same time, he very much prefers you being upfront and honest with people (and him, too, of course!) rather than lying and hiding things. And really, Wyll sometimes phrases things a little too bluntly himself, especially when he isn’t particularly fond of someone (such as Astarion), so he really can’t talk. A little tact could go a long way, sure, and sometimes a little white lie could be seen as justifiable… But ultimately, Wyll values the truth as much as you do, and this will become the core of your bond together. Someone with heavy trust issues such as yourself will need time to build that trust with someone - and Wyll is happy to provide that honest, genuine connection for you.
-> He can be a good balance to the part of you that gets carried away with anger, spite, and revenge. Wyll knows that he can’t ultimately control your behavior or force you to make certain decisions (and he would never want to make decisions for you, he knows it’s not his place), but he hopes he can perhaps dissuade you from actions that might come back and bite you in the ass. The good thing is, a tendency towards anger and spite isn’t a complete deal-breaker for him. Wyll understands the need to lash out when situations or people are frustrating - for him, he gets especially angry towards those who go out of their way to harm others. It’s for a just cause, arguably, but even he can admit that sometimes anger isn’t the most helpful response. But he’s not necessarily one for revenge, and does value “taking the high road” so to say. If your pettiness and desire for revenge often land you in unfavorable situations, he does hope that you can learn to reign this in over time.
-> In a similar vein, Wyll handles your moodiness surprisingly well. He tends to have a fairly good handle on his emotions for the most part, not highly volatile or emotionally reactive, so he’s not likely to be put off or lash out at you if you accidentally lash out at him. He does make it a point to try and accept and understand the flaws of those close to him, too, so he tries to give you a bit of grace. When you need time to yourself, just give him a heads up - he definitely understands needing space to process things and not hurt or drag others down with you. He’ll check in on you after a while, though he tries not to be too intrusive. When it comes to your grouchiness and difficulty waking up in the morning, Wyll can’t help but chuckle. He is very gentle when trying to rouse you from your sleep, though, knowing that it’s not exactly fun hitting the road early with a long day of traveling and battles ahead.
-> Wyll definitely gets a bit flustered by your casual, playful flirting. At least… once he actually realizes that you’re flirting with him, that is. At one point he admits to Gale that he wouldn’t know flirting even if someone “whacked him alongside the head with it” so he’s self-aware enough to know that he can be a bit dense when it comes to stuff like that. He really just thinks you’re being friendly for quite a while - which is perhaps a good thing, considering that you don’t often mean for your flirting to be taken romantically. But once he realizes that he has some sort of feelings for you, and once he realizes that your words are flirtatious and not usually the type of banter friends would share… His cheeks feel like they’re burning up, and he’s stammering as he tries to decide how to respond. This does settle a bit once you two are together, though you are still able to fluster him on occasion. He’s more likely to get a cheeky grin, quick to respond back with a flirtation of his own.
-> Wyll has good taste in gifts, and also values quality time with his partner. In other words, he would be quite compatible with you in terms of love languages. When it comes to giving his loved ones gifts, his taste sometimes leans on the expensive side, given the fact that he grew up as the son of a duke. Though not overly materialistic, he does enjoy spoiling his partner with nice things when he’s able. And yet, Wyll is very down-to-earth and quite sentimental, so he places a lot of value on handmade gifts, too. Regardless, he loves the idea of providing for his partner and spoiling them, and he’s happy to receive gifts knowing that you were thinking of him. As for time - time is precious in his eyes. There’s so much going on in the world, so many things one could be doing… So it’s very important for him to be able to dedicate time just for his partner, and vice versa.

Idk, I have other complicated less on-trend feelings about sex/sexual myths/sexuality as cultural scapegoat (multiple concerns: desire for organisation of society; reproduction of society, memetic cultural transmission and literal reproduction; the libidinal organisation of life and libidinal aspirations of life which everything is, seemingly, secretly organised around), and I tend to view patriarchy as an arm of this - not a sin of capitalism, so, some Renaissance invention - and in some ways I think it is actually sort of laughably coincidental, and in others I think that it is also perverse, and requires perversity to maintain - and this is less to do with a feminist background and more to do with an anthropological one. And not one which doesn't want to make value judgements! I make plenty of those.
I think the point I am trying to make - is that ultimately, no matter what mythology surrounds sex, men and women resist patriarchy in small ways. All the time. Women will have enjoyable sex when they are not supposed to. Men will compassionately love women. And when I think about this topic I think of it more as a mythology, and in some ways - the really perverse thing - is that the question I am asking in life, or in storytelling, isn't 'what is necessarily the most feminist option?', which is moot in a story because a story is not a political responsibility, but what is the most humanistic option? And how is it that humans seem to resist inhuman systems? And why is it that inhuman systems endure? It's a real question! I gestured at it once but I do think that, to some capacity, there is an existential/spiritual death which one undergoes in having to uphold it, and yes, I think it is silly to say 'men are hurt by patriarchy' on its own to shut down feminism, seemingly always only to do that - but clearly there is some sickness here for a reason. (Relatedly, I think the real struggle many people working with feminism have to do with identify men's role in patriarchy is basically having no moral philosophy backbone).
It feels silly to say that ultimately patriarchy is one organisation of power. It's a mythology, in part, because not all men have the same access to power, and not all women have the same access to power and no woman or man is the same single person, but it runs against so many human instincts because, in part, so much of human history has wanted to other those instincts. If you don't want to kill then you cannot be a useful soldier and you can't be mobilised by the state. If you don't want to bear children, and exercise autonomy, then you can't reproduce society. If you want to look after the sick then, seemingly, they will waste resources at the expense of other production, for which I, myself, have greedily coveted. And sometimes it gets away from you in the other direction, some people want to kill - some men want to kill and will get away with it - so you want to celebrate that, even in a good, lawful society, and you need some way to organise that, especially when it is useful (and then there's the whole mythology surrounding the serial killer... but the man who blows the whistle on warcrimes committed by troops at war goes to court).
But the point specifically about libidinal organisation is that because sexuality is like... the point of life for most people - and I hear the asexual's cry of objection, but there is a reason asexuality is othered according to the libidinal organisation which predominates society! - it makes the most organic sense to square your society out through that. It's not just a matter of controlling reproduction - controlling reproduction is part of controlling sex, and lots of people want to have sex, past procreation (evopsychs... sigh), because of intimacy, because of pure sexual drive, connection, boredom, whatever.
And it is absolutely crazymaking - here is the point of this entire fucking post - trying to square out your politics through your sexual desire. How can you be a feminist and have good sex? Do you have to have good sex to be a feminist? If you have bad sex, is that anti-feminist? Or - more specific to my blog - is writing erotica irresponsible, or more responsible? And it's true - misogyny is expressed through sex. Men have sex with women they hate and disrespect. And many myths surrounding sex are patriarchal ones. But this is the whole deal with a humanistic experience of sex - because... ultimately... sex should not be an expression of politics, it should be an expression of humanity. And that's how we ended up in knots.

IMAGES: Cope North 24 starts in Guam with impressive Elephant Walk
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 02/07/2024 - 12:16in Military, Military Operations
The U.S. Air Force, Marines and Navy, along with allies of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), Japan's Self-Defense Air Force (JASDF), French Air and Space Force and the Republic of Korea Air Force (RoKAF) participated in an impressive Elephant Walk during the start of the Cope North 2024 exercise on February 5, 2024 at Andersen Air Base in Guam.
This Elephant Walk was composed of 33 aircraft from various nations, operating together to present a united front with the Allies and partners to improve integrated deterrence in the region. The list included 13 U.S. Air Force aircraft, 8 U.S. Marine Corps, 10 JASDF aircraft, 2 French Air and Space Force aircraft, one RAAF and one Korean Air Force, covering fighters, transport planes and command and control aircraft.
Tumblr media
"The United States does not fight alone, nor does it dissuade alone. Relations and increased operational capabilities with the Allies and partners are vital to preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific,” said the statement from the U.S. Pacific Command (PACAF).
“ Being able to drive and supervise this incredible demonstration of interoperability of Andersen Air Base filled me with admiration,” said Robert Rennie, Air Traffic Controller assigned to the 36º Operations Support Squadron. "The huge amount of aircraft and the way our Allies and partners operate with us is inspiring."
Tumblr media
Elephant Walks, or "elephant walk" in Portuguese, date back to World War II, where the aircraft were mounted on a single line. Events like this demonstrate the presence, strength and preparation of the air power that exists throughout the Indo-Pacific region.
"When I see something like an Elephant Walk, I know we are moving in the right direction to ensure deterrence," Rennie said. "This showcase proves to our opponents that we are not afraid to work together and that we are the best at it."
Tumblr media
Given that long-term strategic competition persists and continues to challenge international institutions, it is vital that ties are strengthened with the Allies and partners to sharpen the competitive advantage, ensure common interests and promote shared values.
“On behalf of RAAF, JASDF and the leadership of the USAF exercise, we are excited to kick off Cope North 24 with this successful demonstration of interoperability through the Elephant Walk,” said Lieutenant-colonel David Overstreet, leading planner of Cope North. "Throughout the exercise, we intend to aggressively practice the combat air forces and the dispersion activities of the mobility air forces together with all six participating nations. Our network of alliances and partnerships continues to be the backbone of global security."

All About Graphic Design and Marketing; An Essential Guide
Tumblr media
Graphic Design is the heart of every marketing effort. Without a great graphic design, it is not easy to craft strategies that convert!
This artwork is the best at creating a unique space in competitive marketplaces in a short period of time. It doesn’t matter in which market you’re doing business; every industry is heavily competitive, and only the ones that have good design can win the market.
Therefore, a solid visual design strategy is the only thing that builds an unshakeable brand and influences customers easily. Not many people are aware of the power of graphic design. This is the reason many businesses are not getting the results of giants. With the rise of the e-commerce industry, maintaining an online presence becomes a must, and if you're from this industry, then don't wait to get in touch with the best graphic design services agency to get long-awaited recognition.
Today, graphic design and digital marketing work together, and if you miss any of them, you won't get better results. This is the reason we’re here with this article to let you know how graphic design and marketing can do wonders for your online and offline business.
Reasons Why You Need to Implement Graphic Design in Your Marketing
Learn the best reasons to understand the importance of graphic design for your brand marketing.
Enhances Brand Consistency
When it comes to brand identity, consistency is the key, and graphic design is the face of your brand. It is one of the fundamental ways graphic design can help your business to thrive. With the long-term goals of your brand, graphic designs can work within your company culture and communicate effectively with your targeted audience about the mission and values of your organization. It not just supports your brand but also works quite well for your workforce too.
We’re sure that you heard that positive workplaces greatly impact building a strong brand identity, and in order to do this, all you need is to remain consistent with your brand designs.
It Works from Concept to Execution
Many business owners struggle a lot to deliver good results; maybe their marketing and design teams are not working together.
Today, people value designs and visuals more than any other thing. So, if your marketing team is not marketing products with compelling designs, then you're missing out on a big big big opportunity!
If you want good outcomes, arrange a meeting of both designers and marketers and give them the idea to work with each other in order to craft designs that are meaningful, engaging, readable, and captivate the mind of the targeted audience in an effective manner.
Graphic Designs Can Provide a Quick Turnaround
Over 82% of professional marketers use content marketing strategies as their priority. And you should have someone who can design all those assets. As a creative graphic designer for your marketing team, you can leverage the exact potential of your marketing team. It will become easy for your marketers to grab the attention of the audience with creative flyers, brochures, banners, website designs, logos, business cards, etc.,
Works for A Common Goal
We're sure that your business team is working toward a common goal, right? If not then at least make a plan in which your marketers and graphic designers can work together for a common goal, as they both are the backbone of your business.
Despite taking a linear direction, your members should bounce good ideas off of each other. A good design is one that inspires a brand marketing campaign rather than taking direction from it.
Designs Have No Barriers, So Does Marketing
Remember the last time you visited a foreign country; you didn’t know their language; what helped you there?
Obviously, it is images and illustrations. The internet has brought people from all over the world closer as anyone can land on your website or social media pages, don't matter what their location is.
English is an international language, but if a customer is not well versed in the language, he won’t understand your brand idea. This is where graphic design and visuals come into play. A creative graphic design helps you to communicate essential information and attracts a good audience from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
Conclusion
Graphic designers and the marketing team play a huge role in the success of a business, but the thing is, both these need to work together.
When the marketing and designing team works together, they make untiring efforts to create the visual identity with the help of creative logos, banners, ads, websites, and many other items. Graphic designers and marketers both understand the psychology of their audience, which helps them to come up with creative ideas that attract them.

Until We Meet Again
This is going to be a watch along starting in Oct 2022, right before Between Us (the spin off) airs. But since I have never done a proper analysis or review of UWMA, I'll start with that.
Tumblr media
Until We Meet Again is a 2019 Thai BL from Studio Wabi Sabi directed by New Siwaj.
It is an adaptation of the y-novel The Red Thread by LazySheep. I watched shortly after it aired in late 2019. You can currently (still) watch it on YouTube. Trigger warning.
Tumblr media
Quick Pitch
UWMA is, without question, a work of narrative genius with a powerful and cohesive romantic backbone and stellar performances. It is (to date) the only Thai BL (of c.170 watched) that I’ve rated a 10/10 predominantly on the basis of story structure. That said, it is also very well cast (and it’s a BIG cast), with solid production values, and enduring pair branding as well as being the best Thai BL from a storytelling perspective. It is one of my favorite BLs of all time and I have probably rewatched at least some parts of it over 20x.
Tumblr media
Narrative Frameworks
UWMA is long for a Thai BL at 17 ep of c.45 min of fresh content which means it comes in at around 13 hours total. It’s tropes include fated mates (or soulmates), past love/tragedy, sins of the fathers, and family drama. It has a strong seme/uke structure and multiple couples (both hallmarks of Thai BL). Leads are grumpy/sunshine pairings, with a side dish of sunshine/tsundere. It’s medium heat but still rather sweet, because while all couples are followed into the bedroom, there’s a very strong emotional chemistry component that renders the physical chemistry somewhat background to the pure love connection driving the relationships. As a series, it is paced well, but is perhaps not the best one to binge watch. To me it feels like a show that needs room to breathe.
Tumblr media
The production values are high but workmanlike. There are some flaws in sound, wardrobe, makeup, and repeated establishing shots. But the crew and cast were clearly bigger and better funded than any Thai BL production since. I would hazard a guess that this was one of Thailands most expensive BLs (with the possible exception of KinnPorsche).
Thai Language Corner
From a Thai linguistics perspective it’s pretty standard for a college set BL. I do use both DeamPharm and WinTeam as examples when talking about basic and more complicated linguistic couple dynamics (more here). OhmFluke, however, are a bit more interesting IRL.
New uses staggered couple framing, central aperture faming, peekaboo framing, and lighting to contrast the secretive and doomed nature of the past relationship against the attempted recovery and reformation of the modern day. He paid very little attention to manga style or BL’s yaoi roots, possibly because his style as a director is evidently not at all influenced by it.
Tumblr media
This show stars Fluke Natouch as Pharm [reincarnated In] and Ohm Thitiwat as Dean [reincarnated Korn] AKA OhmFluke. They are a branded pair who since UWMA have done Close Friend 1 & 2, and Oh My Sunshine Night and have more BLs scheduled for 2023.
Tumblr media
It also stars Earth Katsamonnat (AKA Smol Earth or CooHeart) as Intouch or In [Pharm’s past self] and Kao Noppakao as Korn [Dean's past self]. Earth has gone on to co-brand as SantaEarth starring in 7 Project and My Only 12%. He had acted in several BL shows prior to UWMA, although Fluke would have been the most experienced lead actor on that set. Kao would go on to star in Lovely Writer. Both Fluke and Earth are openly gay and were out at time of filming and promotion.
Tumblr media
The support couple (or side dish) featured Prem Warut as Team [Pharm's best friend] and Boun Noppanut as Win [Dean's best friend]. BounPrem are strongly cobranded and have since co-lead 7 Project, Even Sun, Long Kong, and guest-coupled in Cutie Pie and You Never Eat Alone. They will anchor Between Us the spin off of UWMA (an adaptation of Hemp Rope) reprising their roles of Win and Team. In UWMA their couple has relatively little screen time but they absolutely stole fan attention and adoration.
Tumblr media
UWMA also featured Samantha Coates (AKA Sammy) as Manow [Pharm's best friend] and Pineare Pannin as Del [Dean's sister]. Sammy is a staple of many BLs, being an active member of Wabi Sabi’s stable. Del is best known for playing Yuri in 2014′s Love Sick, Thailand’s first big hit BL. These two starred together in Wabi Sabi’s only GL (part of 7 Project.) (Don’t bother, it’s still all about the boy.)
Tumblr media
I am telling you all this up front because I will make mistakes and refer to everyone by their character or actor name all the time. Sorry. Also I want you to know how biased I am.
I LOVE this show.
And now....
the watch along.
Tumblr media
Episode 1 - Oh, I Forgot...
It has probably been about a year since I did a rewatch of UWMA. And I think I’ve only ever watched the first installment of the first episode one time through. I didn’t forget how dark it was, but I am reminded why I always say ‘original trigger warning” on UWMA.
Tumblr media
I can see why I like to the show from the start, because it does open on a crying kiss. I am an absolute sucker for a crying kiss. This time around, I noticed the intrusiveness of the music a lot more, especially in KornIn’s stuff.
Earth turns in a killer opening performance (in the great cry off between him and Fluke that is this show). In that moment before he picks up the gun, Earth almost does look like Fluke will later on. It’s a really interesting bit of facial performance and acting.
I got to say, barring some of the darker Japanese BL, this is probably the most powerful opening sequence we’ve gotten in the genre. Honestly, if this show we’re being released right now I don’t think it would’ve had this opening. They would’ve kept the trigger, but it would’ve appeared more chronologically towards the end.
Is this a pleasant way to start a BL? No.
Is it powerful? Yep.
Tumblr media
Manaow and Del are still 2 of my favorites. We were robbed with their GL.
Oh my God Prem looks like such a baby.
I like that there are these extra bits with extra characters in UWMA, like in the cooking club. We don’t get a vast ensemble casts like this anymore. Not even from Thailand, not with this attention to detail. I kind of miss it. The little extra bits set in different parts of the university, they remind me a bit of origin yaoi.
Tumblr media
Honestly Fluke is one of the best blushing maidens to ever blush. It’s still not my favorite archetype but he does do it beautifully. The part where Team jokingly says he’ll protect his two friends, is pretty telling actually. Since he’s going to have to step up to the plate later and try against and older boy. I do adore this friendship group. In the end, perhaps Pete & Kao’s friends (Kiss series) beat them out slightly. But not by very much.
And the set up for the whole show:
Tumblr media
I will keep searching until I find you.
30 years later...
(You know, when I was first watching this show I always called it Until You Again, in my head.)
I wonder how hard it was for Fluke to cry on command like that, all the time. Here watch this AMAZING FMV of Fluke and Gun (Theory of Love) having a cry off.
WinTeam and the towel in the locker room is still one of the best early couple moments ever.
The end of the first episode and we haven’t even had a proper meet cute. And yet the pacing feels. I think because the show opens so top-heavy with the deadly drama at the beginning of the episode.
Honestly, I forgot how sort elegant and well executed to show was. I’ve grown to no longer expect that from New. It just goes to show that he’s one of those directors that really excels and thrives when he has a very strong script.
Episode 2 - The High Beans!
I love this meet cute. LOVE IT. Can’t wait to watch it again. But first the library (not quite) assignation.
Tumblr media
One of the best prevailing themes of UWMA is this idea that making food, and specifically Thai desserts, is meditative and important for the cook. But also that preparing food is about the love and affection that you sprinkle feelings into the dish like seasoning, so that people can taste it when they eat.
Note the only other guy in the cooking club? That’s Best Vittawin from Check Out and a bunch of other higher heat BL. Also some of you who are paying attention to the language might notice that Luk Choup is mentioned quite a bit. Yes that is the same name as the character in La Cuisine. It’s also the desert that In makes with his Maa, and that Pharm makes into special star shapes for Dean in Ep 3.
Tumblr media
Honestly KaoEarth never much resonated with me, but on this rewatch I am liking them so much better than I ever have before. It that @heretherebedork ‘ss influence? Possibly. I think it’s also because of both My Only 12% (which is making me like Earth more as an actor) and Lovely Writer (which made me like Kao more).
One of my favorite character development threads in the show is Dean’s relationship with his siblings. I love how austere and cold he is at the beginning of the show. But how, after being with Parm for a while, he mellows around Don & Del. It is Pharm who brings a family to Dean in the end.
The note passing in the secret smiles and the spitting of the orange juice remains very cute.
Tumblr media
I am quietly obsessed, well not quietly (because I’ve never quiet), about Dean with his hand in his pocket.
Honestly, the only time Dean takes his hand out of his pocket is to touch Pharm.
And there it is, FINALLY, the mung bean meat cute!
Best ever.
Tumblr media
This is such a GREAT romance.
Pharm starts to cry and Dean immediately touches his face. There is a reason I call Dean the most handsy seme in BL. He is pretty much never not touching Pharm from this moment on. It’s glorious (and very unlike KBL and JBL).
And you can see him look at his own hand and surprise, because he is clearly not a touchy-feely person. But being then he just accepts this about himself and will do everything he can to be close to Pharm from here on out.
Tumblr media
I love how New does this dirty screen peekaboo shot on DeanPharm right before he cuts back and forth to KornIn, it’s like framing foreshadow since normally this style of short is used with KornIn so highlight the secrecy of their relationship.
Episode 3 - Wabi Sabi Shows Off The Stable
Tumblr media
I just realized one of In’s friends (played by Title Tanatorn) is also in Remember Me and My Only 12% airing right now. Boy needs a series. He v cute. Also “HI DR SING!” (Sorry, due to Triage, Tonnam will always be Dr Sing. Although he is also a side character in LITA right now. Honestly my brain is becoming an MDL for Thai actors in BLs. Of course, Perth is great in this role, a foreshadow for all the crying he’ll do in LBC2. I am sorry we never got to meet his character older. It would’ve been nice for him to have gotten closure with the Pharm as reincarnated In. I wonder if his character got to meat Pharm did in the book?
Tumblr media
And Win’s Patented move the casual arm throw. Honestly, Win gets all of the best lines in this show. No wonder we all like him so much. I hope he stays a witty and snarky in Between Us.
Tumblr media
I have to say, Dean’s soft voice is one of the best in the biz, thank you Ohm. Almost as good as Solo’s (Oxygen).
Tumblr media
And so Dean learns about Pharm’s panic attacks and the after effects that his past self’s actions have wrought on the person he loved the most. And he reacts in the most seme way possible. Honestly he is such a poster child seme in this series.
Also he flirts.
In a VERY Dean fashion.
Dean: I’m still single.
Tumblr media
Pharm: I am single too.
Dean: Not for long.
This is the show where I first learned that in Thailand do you say “bur” when you want someone’s digits. This makes me unreasonably happy.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile back in the past selves, In is so brave. The worst consequence of the tragedy that lead to their reincarnation is that his future self is so timid and afraid because of what was done to In in the past. It’s really the only reason I forgive Pharm’s blushing maiden actions. I think of that fact of his personality as somewhat dictated by the past, much like his panic attacks.
The bit where Pharm is serving Dean breakfast in his condo for the first time and he puts out a carafe of water and there are little flowers floating in it? What are those flowers?
Meanwhile, he way Dean fixes Pharm’s hair and tie and then Phram misspeaks “gin” gets me every time. Although I gotta say if a boy cried like that every time he met me, I’d probably have backed off my now.
Episode 4 - Bisexual Rep & Stereotyping. Are we happy or sad?
Tumblr media
Does one get pleased to see bisexual rep or annoyed by the stereotyping? At the time, because it was so rare in BL (still is, actually), I was pleased. But now with Mame busting in on the bi/pan=predatory slut trope regularly I’m just annoyed.
P’Alex (Mean in his best role, fight me Tin stans) as a sleazy bi actor won over by food. Honestly? Been there done that, been that done there, and fucked that. Oo, I’m three for three!
OK so in LITA when Payu says/implies that he wants Rain to talk like a good boy, really he wants him to talk the way Pharm does to Dean (all the time). Pharm is so bloody polite.
Tumblr media
So cute that Dean won’t allow Pharm to be jealous for one second. Dean has no interest in playing any of the normal BL games. These two are fated, gay, and into each other and he has no interest in pretending otherwise. Oh he will tease his uke like a proper seme, but only because Pharm lacks faith in Dean’s constancy.
The scene with Pharm and the girls carving the dumplings is one of my favorites. It’s so cute the way Manaow teases Pharm with Del’s sibling connection. Also it’s really sweet the way that Pharm instantly understands the complexities of Dean’s familial relationships, and immediately sets out to heal them.
Win and Dean racing.
Tumblr media
Look, competition is how 2 semes show their love for each other.
And then the most famous scene in a BL that’s full of famous scenes.
Tumblr media
Does anyone one in BL execute the feeding trope better? I think not. And if you can name one, leave a comment and make a case for it.
In addition to having one of the best soft commanding voices in Thai BL, Ohm has got to have one of the best side eyes as well.
Tumblr media
I love that Del is already protective of her brother’s boyfriend.
Happy clap hands we get the first date and the penguin walk next!
Episode 5 - The Ping-guine Walk!
I would like to stress from this moment on that we, the collective BLers, do not talk about Dean’s driving in this show. Or we did at the time, but that time has passed. Just ignore, okay? Cause it cray cray.
Tumblr media
Del cooking for her brothers is so cute. Also the way she gently teases Dean about Pharm. Love her!
And now the first date.
The bus trip so Make it Right. Just FYI Thailand and Korea LOVE a bus trip in romance (BL or otherwise). They tend to do it the most. Japan has done it a few times too. But the others not so much.
Also sharing earbuds = MIR again.
Tumblr media
I do love P’Sorn.
Yes, that’s Na from Kinnporseche but we knew him when (also forthcoming Wish Me Luck).
Tumblr media
I love the aquarium visit.
Pharm doing the penguin walk.
Dean’s expression when Pharm does a penguin walk.
Tumblr media
Dean secretly taking photographs of his cutie. It’s just wonderful. Pharm is so bouncy and cute and Dean is so soft and indulgent. And it’s one of the few times where we get to see Pharm be a little bit more like In. Dean spends the whole time looking at Pharm rather than the fish. He’s so doting.
It’s so good.
The story about the sea ogress and what to do with a traitorous lover. Pharm’s response is actually typical uke, as possessive as seme are, it is usually the uke in yaoi & BL who ends up being the most fierce about ownership in a relationship. Because the uke has, in many ways, sacrificed part of their identity to the seme (in In’s case, all of it), their’s is the more powerful claim by right of sacrifice. It’s very old gods, ancient instincts.
Meanwhile there’s Dean always making his intentions crystal clear.
Tumblr media
That hand hold.
But also...
No Dean, he doesn’t trust you, and for a very good reason.
And finally we have everybody’s least favorite character in UWMA: Ja’s wig.
There’s a wild speculation around this wig.
Perhaps he had just finished Ror Dor and had no hair? Or had just come back from serving in the military? No matter wha,t it’s totally unacceptable.
Thailand is never allowed to use wigs. It’s one of the sacred rules of BL. It’s a bummer because Sorn & Sin are fab minor characters. (They will rep for the “elder gay advice giver” archetype. One of my favorites.)
Episode 6 - The Read Thread Kiss
This rewatch I really feel a lot more for Korn than I ever did before. He really did try to warn In that it wasn’t a good idea for them to date, like he knew he wasn’t gonna be brave enough, even for love. But In is so relentless and so cute, who could resist?
Tumblr media
Everyone eating lunch together and teasing each other and Del finally relaxing around Dean is one of my favorite little vignettes. Also, everybody laughing at Dean rgr “forgetting to swallow.” And my boys holding hands under the table. It’s glorious.
I also like how we get to see Dean reacting to the past negatively too, finally. And his siblings are so worried about him. This crack in his stoic armor.
I do love Pharm standing up to Alex before the play. And the fact that Del records it and sends it to Dean is just so good. Especially knowing what happens next.
Tumblr media
The fated mates of the red thread.
Dean’s faculty cohorts are all such frat boy type dicks. I kinda love their sleazy mame-ish little ways.
Tumblr media
Honestly there’s nothing carnal when these two kiss but it’s so beautifully romantic and soft.
I love love love the way Dean checks in on Pharm and tidies him up, afterwards. It’s so sweetly caring and careful.
And then the big realization about reincarnation over shabu shabu.
Tumblr media
I gotta say, as a chronic rewatcher, this show stands up to a rewatch better than pretty much any other Thai BL I could name. Probably because it has so many character vignettes, and little moments of side affection between friends as well as lovers. There’s a lot of meat and sweetness to revisit.
Episode 7 - Possibly my Favorite Episode
The tiny snippet where Dean sees Pharm as In is actually one of the saddest bits of this whole show. It’s rough watching DeanPram figure everything out.
Tumblr media
I do love the scene where Pharm meets Dean’s younger brother. Don tricks Dean into coming over, and everybody teases them.
I feel like every episode I say “this is one of my favorite scenes.” Which just goes to show why this is my favorite Thai BL ever.
Meanwhile, sitting on the couch crying, DeanPharm finally figure out that they promised to find each other and that they are both experiencing the same feelings of reincarnation. This particular exchange of gifts is so significant actually talk about it as an example in my blog post on the trope. Gift exchange is not a trope I love but it has a lot of meaning in this particular instance.
Tumblr media
Public claiming of a relationship is one of my more favorite tropes on the other hand, which means the next scene where Dean has to run Alex off is just too good. When I talk about Thailand in the context of age dynamics as part of culture, I use the example of how hard it is for Team to protect Pharm under these circumstances - where he is fighting against Alex who is not only older but from a different department. It’s such an important insight into Team’s character, that he’s willing to stand against Alex even though the whole social structure is against him. Dean sweeping in and running Alex off is just so powerful as a result. Also I really love the way Dean is always touching Pharm and tidying/playing with his hair and clothes - it’s so proprietary and boyfriend. It also shows that Dean is never not thinking about him, his eyes are always on Pharm whenever they are together.
Tumblr media
And this ep ends with WinTeam and the forehead kiss in the convenience store. Finally there’s some movement on their romance. This really is one of my favorite episodes.

What is Stochastic Gradient Descent
Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD) is a popular optimization technique in machine learning. It helps models learn by updating their parameters. This method is simple, efficient, and works well with large datasets.
Understanding Gradient Descent
Gradient Descent is a way to minimize the error in a machine learning model. Think of it like finding the lowest point in a valley. The model tries to find the best parameters to make the predictions as accurate as possible.
How Gradient Descent Works
Initialize Parameters: Start with random values.
Compute Gradient: Calculate the slope of the error function.
Update Parameters: Adjust the parameters in the opposite direction of the slope.
Repeat: Continue until the error is minimized.
What Makes SGD Different?
SGD differs from standard Gradient Descent in one key way. Instead of using the whole dataset to compute the gradient, it uses only one data point at a time. This makes it faster and more efficient, especially for large datasets.
Benefits of SGD
Speed: Since it uses one data point at a time, it can update the parameters quickly.
Efficiency: It works well with large datasets and complex models.
Simplicity: Easy to understand and implement.
Drawbacks of SGD
Noisy Updates: Using one data point at a time can lead to noisy updates.
Slow Convergence: It might take longer to find the minimum error.
Practical Use of SGD
SGD is widely used in various machine learning algorithms, such as linear regression, logistic regression, and neural networks. It’s a backbone technique for training models in these fields.
Implementing SGD
To implement SGD, follow these steps:
Initialize parameters randomly.
For each data point:
Compute the gradient of the error function.
Update the parameters.
Repeat for several iterations until the error is minimized.
Conclusion
Stochastic Gradient Descent is a powerful tool in machine learning. Its simplicity and efficiency make it a go-to method for optimizing large models. Understanding how it works can help you build better and faster machine learning models.

Water and Electricity Harvesting in Agriculture
Tumblr media
Written By: Jagriti Shahi
Agriculture is the backbone of civilization, but it faces a growing challenge: resource scarcity. Water tables are dropping, and traditional electricity sources can be expensive and environmentally unfriendly. However, innovative solutions are emerging that combine water and electricity harvesting to create a more sustainable future for farming. In an era where sustainable practices are no longer optional but essential, the integration of water and electricity harvesting into agriculture represents a transformative approach. This innovation not only addresses the critical issues of resource scarcity and environmental degradation but also enhances the efficiency and productivity of modern farming. By combining water management and renewable energy generation, farmers can create a more resilient and self-sufficient agricultural system.
Water: The Lifeblood of Agriculture
Water is essential for plant growth, and traditional irrigation methods can be highly water-intensive. Here's where water harvesting comes in. By collecting rainwater and runoff through techniques like ponds, swales, and cisterns, farmers can create a reliable source of irrigation without relying on depleting groundwater reserves. Additionally, drip irrigation systems deliver water directly to the plant roots, minimizing evaporation and waste.
Harnessing the Power of the Sun
Electricity is crucial for powering pumps, lights for greenhouses, and other essential farm equipment. Solar panels offer a clean and sustainable solution. By installing solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, farms can generate their own electricity, reducing dependence on the grid and lowering energy costs.
Agrivoltaics in India
Tumblr media
Figure: Certain crops can tolerate moderate shading. - Source: Image: Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE
India is also exploring the concept of agrivoltaics, where solar panels are installed above crop fields. This approach not only generates electricity but also provides partial shade for crops, reducing water evaporation and enhancing crop yields. Projects in states like Gujarat have demonstrated the viability and benefits of this dual-use land approach.
The Synergy of Water and Electricity Harvesting
The beauty lies in the synergy between these technologies. The electricity generated by solar panels can power pumps that utilize harvested rainwater for irrigation. This creates a closed-loop system, minimizing reliance on external resources and promoting environmental sustainability.
Agriculture is heavily dependent on water and energy. Traditionally, these resources have been sourced independently, often leading to inefficiencies and unsustainable practices. However, by harvesting water and electricity in tandem, farmers can optimize their resource use and reduce their environmental footprint.
Water Harvesting Techniques

Language and the Law as Evidence - Essay I
Anya Altieri
Communities of Practice and the Internet
Eight people dead in a mall near Dallas, the shooter wearing a patch with the phrase “RWDS” - right wing death squad. Three people gunned-down in a Florida convenience store, swastikas adorning the shooter’s rifle. What do these acts of violence have in common? They were both carried-out by Neo-Nazis. Though many would describe these attackers as “lone wolves,” according to Michael Fürstenberg, these people are often embedded in digital “wolf packs,” otherwise known as communities of practice. Understanding and identifying communities of practice who threaten other communities through analysis of internet language is essential to law   enforcement agencies seeking to protect marginalized communities and the public at large. Defining what constitutes a community of practice is essential to understanding this dynamic.
Stanford University defines a community of practice as, “An aggregate of people who come together around mutual engagement in some common endeavor. Ways of doing things, ways of talking, beliefs, values, power relations - in short, practices - emerge in the course of their joint activity around that endeavor.” Some examples given by Eckert and McConnell-Ginet include; “people working in a factory, a neighborhood play-group, a family,” (Eckert, McConnell-Ginet, 8) or essentially any group that shares an interest or common goal and learn how to better pursue said interest or goal as they interact with each other regularly. Communities of practice differ from other theoretical groupings such as sex, socioeconomic status, and ethnicity by virtue of them sharing a common goal. Neo-nazi groups can also be considered a community of practice because they share common goals such as elevating the white race. They attack varying marginalized groups due to race, ethnicity, religion, and sexual orientation. For example, the Aryan Brotherhood or groups found on websites like 8chan communicate use specific language to perpetuate their cause.
Communities of practice are the backbone of the internet. Online communities of practice, or virtual communities of practice are defined as groups “where members mainly use information and communication technologies (ICT) to share stories, knowledge, and communications” (Hanisch, 2). Examples of virtual communities of practice include contributors to a website like KiwiFarms, a site dedicated to the stalking, harassment, and publishing of personal information - also known as doxxing, or a section of a website dedicated to a certain topic like /pol/ on 4chan which is a subset of 4chan dedicated to spreading right-wing extremist talking points. Viewers of YouTube channels such as Sargon of Akkad, or groups of YouTube channels like the “anti-SJW” side of YouTube - a collection of channels also dedicated to spreading alt-right talking points - can also be considered online communities of practice. Familiarity with these communities is essential for law enforcement to track and therefore prevent acts of violence like those mentioned earlier.
Stochastic terrorism has become a prominent talking point in recent years following the presidency of Donald Trump. The term “stochastic” is used to describe the random probabilistic nature of its effect; whether or not an attack actually takes place. The stochastic terrorist in this context does not direct the actions of any individual or group, but rather gives voice to a specific ideology via mass media with the aim of optimizing its dissemination. Essentially, the stochastic terrorist randomly incites individuals predisposed to acts of violence; and since law enforcement usually labels these acts of violence “lone wolf” attacks, the inciter goes without facing any scrutiny. Stochastic terrorism can be observed in many places, but is especially prominent on the internet, any bigot with an internet connection can rise to a position of authority in a surrounding community of practice. The obvious example would be former president Donald Trump and his incitement of the January 6 insurrection. His use of mass media agitated a group of already unstable individuals to the point where they stormed the Capitol in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. A less obvious example would be the likes of Tim Pool - a political commentator on YouTube - and Steven Crowder - host of the “Louder with Crowder” show also found on YouTube. These two individuals are some of the most popular right-wing commentators with over 7.14 million (Socialblade.com) followers combined. They are also considered “entry points” to the alt-right pipeline, a radicalizing network of content creators meant to pull people towards alt-right ideologies. Tim Pool in particular has been documented as a frequent watch of Mauricio Garcia, the man who would don his RWDS patch and ultimately take the lives of eight people in a mall near Dallas, TX on May 6, 2023. This “lone wolf” had a “wolf pack,” a few, actually, and many of the members flaunt their membership all across the internet. One simply must know what to look for, that’s where understanding dog whistles is critical.
According to Merriam-Webster, a dog whistle is defined as “a coded message communicated through words or phrases commonly understood by a particular group of people but not others.” Historically, the purpose of dog whistles is “(1) to signal hate for outgroups without employing visibly incendiary language, and (2) as identity markers, signaling belonging to the white supremacist community” (Bhat, Klein, 9). Some commonly used dog whistles include; “state’s rights,” - a way of arguing for segregation as employed by the Defenders of State Sovereignty and Individual Liberties in 1955 - “banks,” - a way of referring to Jewish people, as it’s a common belief amongst anti-Semites that Jewish people are in control of the world’s banks - and “13%,” or “13/50”- a way of referring to Black Americans  as it’s often falsely stated by racist individualsthat Black Americans make up 13% of the population and commit 50% of the crime. This language can be used in stochastic terrorism to signal hatred towards or paint a target on other communities, making them vulnerable to acts of violence. Dog whistles can also signal membership of a certain group or community of practice. It is imperative that law enforcement understand how to recognize these membership signals so as to better identify potential perpetrators, and take steps to monitor them.
To conclude, communities of practice- groups of people that share an interest or common goal- learn how to better pursue said interest or goal when they interact with each other regularly. The internet supplies the means of communication and supports stochastic terrorism among potential attackers. The sites  range from viewers of a YouTube channel like Sargon of Akkad, to subsets of various websites like /pol/ on 4chan, to general users of a website as seen with kiwifarms. These communities, no matter the size, often employ the use of highly-specific language known as dog whistles to not only signal membership, but to paint a target on other groups, potentially marking them for acts of violence. It is critical that law enforcement knows what makes a community of practice, what makes one dangerous, and how they employ language to perpetuate their causes.

Jay Conner supports this with a personal anecdote where he bought a house ‘subject to’ the existing note, showcasing how stacking strategies can lead to success without traditional bank loans.
The Ethical Edge in Business
An important theme of the discussion is conducting business ethically. Derek stresses the significance of living a visionary life that you love, rather than just striving for financial gains. The conversation criticizes the often misleading advice floating around in real estate circles, advocating for a more grounded and honest approach to education in this sector. Ethical practices not only foster long-term success but also contribute to a healthier, more sustainable market environment.
Private Money: Raising and Managing Investments
Jay Conner, as host of “Raising Private Money,” and Derek, with his impressive accomplishment of raising upwards of $20 million, discuss the intricacies of managing private funds. Derek recalls overcoming the market downturn in 2007 by pivoting towards raising private money, illustrating resilience and adaptability as key traits of a successful real estate entrepreneur. The strategy of storytelling to attract investments, without a direct request for funds, emerges as a nuanced skill that can deepen potential investor relationships.
Relationship Building with Investors
The podcast highlights the crucial aspect of not prejudging potential private money investors. Building trust and establishing robust relationships, particularly with self-directed IRA companies, forms the backbone of successful fundraising. Both Derek and Jay emphasize the human element in financial dealings, underscoring the impact investors can have on transforming retirement years through strategic real estate investments.
Aligning Business with Lifestyle and Vision
Perhaps the most refreshing take from this episode is Derek’s emphasis on aligning business endeavors with personal lifestyles and dreams. He shares his transformative experience of taking a 5-week RV trip, demonstrating the feasibility of integrating significant personal rewards with professional rigors. This section serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of designing a business that supports personal growth and family life, rather than constraining it.
