On the subject of how often Lestat mentions crying and weeping in The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned, this exchange between Lestat and Louis in Tale of the Body Thief always cracks me up:

Lestat: "I'm going to weep if you don't stop." Louis: "Weep. I'd like to see you weep. I've read a great deal about your weeping in the pages of your books but I've never seen you weep with my own eyes." Lestat: "Ah, that makes you out to be a perfect liar. You described my weeping in your miserable memoir in a scene which we both know did not take place!"

It's a great lampshade on all his weeping, and it's a moment that exists because the books exist in-universe. I will always be absolutely feral for moments in the series that refer to the books.

It is #Molloy Monday and I am here to remind you that Daniel is featured most from 1975-1985 aka the Sluttiest Era of Modern Male Fashion.

Coming in HOT we have the cut off short shorts and cropped t-shirt or mostly unbuttoned button down combo. Daniel visited some warm climates during the chase years so I invite you to picture him in the tiniest ripped jean shorts sweating over whether or not that auburn haired lady down the street is actually Armand!!

Or going into the 80s sometimes the tops were REALLY cropped and exposed midrift and back!! Like just picture Daniel fucking around on Night Island in this, wow wow!!

But even when the pants were long the t-shirts were TIGHT, maximum pec definition through the shirt was a must.

If he didn't wanna show that much skin? That was fine because turtlenecks where IN baby!! These are basically vampire lingerie imo, covering up the most succulent part of the neck but still leaving a hint exposed below the jaw?? Armand had to have been dying of thirst!!!

(Also when it says Armand came to pick Daniel up from jail in a lawyer's tweed suit? He wasn't wearing no modern cut, he'd have been rocking the big lapels because this was the 70s tyvm)

Also important to note was that the 70s were the era of glam rock and androgyny, so picking a silky button down that looks like a women's blouse? Totally okay for men, very in style so long as you leave the top buttons undone to expose maximum chest.

Btw velour? Was IN. This is the 1979 equivalent of a juicy couture tracksuit which Armand could have snuggled right into while they were living in London.

And while the 80s sees the rise of a looser fit, that doesn't mean the crop top died or that people weren't still rocking a more form fitted jean when they were feeling casual.

This photo is from NYC in 1983 and shows that tight t-shirts and short shorts were still very much alive, just styled a bit differently! A tight top and looser straight leg jeans, or short bottom and a flowy open top took the place of all fitted looks.

Or that the mostly unbuttoned button down went away- if anything in the 80s the buttons went even LOWER and more revealing. Paired with a boxy linen suit this is essential 80s Miami aka Night Island looks.

This sweater is loose but it's got the deep V neck and a sheer knit, perfect for the beach!!

And yeah this is Sapder AGAIN but note the half open shirt, leather jacket, and jeans that get tighter near the ankle!! Classic 80s, baggy but still sexy, A+.

I SWEAR this is the last time I'm gonna use and abuse him but peep the muscle tank with the DIY cut edges on the arm holes! V neck! 80s!!!

Basically the takeaway here is that if you're putting them in the 80s and having them rock something baggy and double denim, the look still featured a tight waistline and rolled sleeves or rolled ankles to tighten the jeans. It wasn't just baggy all over!!

I think the first two were Louis/Armand, the third was Armand/Daniel and they were all absolutely beautiful.

Imagine being a housekeeper at Trinity Gate and your horror book club starts reading The Vampire Lestat and you're like oh yeah, that whole publicity stunt with the band in the 80s. And then you get invested and you're reading through the books and you get to The Vampire Armand, and realize the young people who live in this house--when they live there, they travel a lot--seem so much like the ones described on the pages, and how everyone's asleep during the day, and surely that's just a coincidence, New York is full of eccentric rich people with strange habits.

But you start to wonder... so maybe in your free time you dig up the tax records and see they're under some corporation you can't possibly hope to trace. And then you read Prince Lestat and remember when the house was clearly full of guests who never appeared while you were working, the kitchen always strangely devoid of food... The pieces click into place. You're not going to say anything, this is a damn good job, and it pays so much better than the housekeeping jobs at neighboring houses. Besides, it's a good gig to rarely see the people you're working for. And anyhow, maybe you're just making up stories.

But when you do see them, you can't help but notice some oddities... the parlor of their skin, the strange way they move or more unsettingly don't move. One night you see one of your bosses in the garden, and can't stop staring at how the moonlight glows against their pale skin...

And then you wake up at home. Your head is fuzzy. You must have gone out last night but you don't remember. You panic you're late for work but suddenly can't remember where you work or when. That's odd. You remember your name, your birthday, what year it is (although you thought it was a week earlier than your phone seems to claim). And your checking account is full. Fuller than you ever remember it being. You frown at your phone. And then your eyes dance over to your bookshelf. You see a stack of vampire books and feel uneasy. You take them to the library and donate them all, wanting them out of your home for reasons you can't explain.

Okay, ever since I got the anon who was unsure what to say in a comment I’ve had the topic on my mind. So here it is, the ultimate guide to How to Comment on a Fic for those who are Shy, New to Fandom, or Simply Cannot Words: featuring examples of types of comments which are awesome and a delight to receive!

“wow, I loved this!! Thank you for sharing!!” <- brevity is the soul of wit and everyone loves a concise comment! Just saying you liked the thing is enough to make any author’s day.

“This is so good, I really loved it when Character X...” <- listen, pulling just one example of a line or an action from a fic that you liked? More than enough to make a writer’s heart jump for joy. We wanna know what resonated with you and just one example is a delicious meal!

“You writing style is so good because you...” <- Do you like the author’s use of descriptions? Dialogue? The unique metaphors they used? Tell them!! We love hearing technical aspects of what the reader enjoys!

“I love how you write Character X, you always...” <- characterization is something we all worry about, so knowing what you like about how we write your blorbo is a special gift!

“ 😩 🥵 ❤️ “ <- sometimes emoji are enough, especially on a smut fic!! We love knowing we melted your brain so good that all you could do was smash the keyboard at us.

The Book Report <- listen, if you’ve got the time and the mental stamina? Everyone enjoys a big meta comment. But it’s not required. Book Reports are like the big fat slice of cake at the end of a meal, a special treat but the one or two sentence comments are filling enough on their own that every author will walk away happy with just those!

So go forth and comment!! Any and every comment is worth giving an author. Short, long, detailed, emoji only- it’s all good. We just want active engagement with our works and comments are our paycheck for writing something new.

loustat fic: i bet on losing dogs, 5583 words, rated explicit.

Summary:

Of car crashes and the inevitability of a reunion that cannot be fought against, no matter what timeline it falls upon. AU of season 1, episode 6. Or, what would happen if Claudia wasn't around to stop Louis from going back to Lestat that one time by the car?

Notes:

This idea came to me last year and although I did not write it at the time, it has stayed with me this entire time. I always intended to write it and this was when it was meant to happen. This is not a piece of fluff. Instead, it is a dark love that cannot be ignored despite all that is wrong and every sign screaming at Louis to run away from the blaring neon red flag that is Lestat. I did allow another author to use my idea at the time (I am always willing to share my ideas!), but now I am reclaiming it as my own. I like what I have created here and am proud to have been able to finish a piece since it has been a while now. I love loustat with all my heart and am so excited to see what season 2 brings to the table. I am so sure I will be in agony and loving every second of it. A new trailer drops tonight! I think I have rambled on long enough? Does anyone actually read these notes? If you are reading this, also note that the title comes from the Mitski song of the same name and you should listen to it if you haven't. I felt the song perfectly encapsulated how Louis feels since although he knows their love is an absolute mess and will never be a dreamy, pure, lovely thing, it's theirs, and no one loves him like Lestat, nor does he love anyone the way he loves Lestat. It's something Louis can't fight against.
