where and in what order do i watch precure?

Hey! Just saw this.

In terms of officially... the very first season (Futari wa Precure) along with 4 recent seasons are on Crunchyroll (Kirakira Precure a la Mode, Healin' Good Precure, Tropical-Rouge Precure, and Delicious Party Precure). ...technically Netflix dubbed 2 seasons under the name Glitter Force, but it was a 4kids style mess, (cut episodes, editing to be more "child friendly", changing all names to Western ones, etc.) so avoid unless showing to a younger relative who can't handle subs

Unofficially, all the seasons have been fansubbed and are available at whatever website you normally use.

Each Precure season is like 48 episodes, and each are totally standalone outside of some little continuity gags, like the same stores existing in multiple seasons. The only exceptions to this are two early seasons that have direct sequels (Futari wa Precure Max Heart and Yes Precure 5 Gogo) and a yearly non-canon crossover movie where all (or at least the 3-4 most recent seasons worth) of the Cures meet up and fight some new enemy (no one ever ages, though).

So, basically, you can start with whatever season you want! I'd recommend looking at the wiki and reading the description of each season to see which one sounds the most interesting. Personally, my favorite is Star Twinkle, and I really like Heartcatch, Smile, and Tropical-Rouge. I've also heard Fresh, Go Princess, and Hugtto are pretty good. Alternatively, if you want to have the maximum interaction with other fans, Hirogaru Sky Precure, the latest season, is about to start airing on February 5th (available on Crunchyroll or less legally).

If you want my opinions specifically:

Futari wa + Max Heart: Yin yang themed; not great pacing because they were still figuring things out plus some CG that aged badly, but people really love the focus on the relationship between the leads

Splash Star: nature themed; seen as a ripoff of the 1st seasons, but some people swear it's actually way better? features the tackiest outfits

Fresh: fruit + clover themed; animation can be rough, but the story is apparently really great, esp. concerning a villain who changes sides

Yes Precure 5 + Gogo: butterfly + then rose themed; animation can really suffer sometimes; some people seem to really like it, but I mostly know it as The One Season with an Explicit Het Romance

Heartcatch: flower + fashion themed; The Edgy Season and the one with the most unique artstyle + strong animation; has really good character arcs and cool concepts (the MC's grandmother was a former Cure!)

Suite: music themed; people used to really hate this one in comparison to Heartcatch, but it's seen more fondly now? apparently has good character work but the animation suffers because the outfits were very detailed. Also, the ending got changed last minute to be lighter and softer because that was when the big typhoon hit japan

Smile: fairytale themed; not very plot heavy but consistently cute and funny; just a silly little show, but a few eps made me cry. Avoid the Netflix dub (Glitter Force)

Dokidoki Precure: playing card themed; had a lot of cool plot things going for it, but fell apart a little; MC gets accused of stealing the show, which is rare for Precure, which tends to be more team-focused than, say, Sailor Moon, where Usagi is the strongest and the main focus

Happiness Charge Precure: fashion/dance themed?; a really really cool concept where there are a whole bunch of Precure all over the world and they're known to the public and covered on the news, but the ending is weaker than the rest of the show; also, the international Cure designs can be a little stereotypical, and even the Egyptian and Indian Cures are very pale...

Go Princess Precure: princess themed; I've heard the plot is really good, but I don't know much about the details? Utena references apparently

Witchy Precure/ Maho Girls Precure: witch themed; one of the Precure is a witch from a magical world and one is a normal girl, and they both spend like half their time at magic school? despite this cool concept, it's apparently very light on plot and I've not seen any huge fans of it

Kirakira Precure a La Mode: animal + sweets themed; another light and fluffy season, but with semi-canon lesbians? very cute designs, and lots of comparisons to Tokyo Mew Mew

Hugtto Precure: future + career themed; heard it's very strong in terms of plot and characters, although some people have quibbles with the ending; started the trend among newer seasons of having a decades later epilogue to show you how the Cures grow up, which is always nice to see; features a boy or nonbinary (depends on your interpretation) Cure near the end of the season

Star Twinkle Precure: space + imagination themed; kind of an 80s aesthetic visually and with really strong designs, plus a really cool plot and good character development; the one season with a mixed race Cure; episodes split between aliens attacking Earth and the Cures visiting other planets; also, the movie is way better than it has any right to be and makes me cry every time

Healin Good Precure: healing + nature themed; the season that was cut slightly short due to COVID; also the one themed around health care? It was in production pre pandemic, so just weird timing. ...apparently it's kind of mid

Tropical Rouge Precure: mermaid + makeup themed; lots of focus on the main girls forming a club and going around the town doing fun stuff and helping classmates interrupted by going to magical mermaid places and learning some plot related stuff (there's not... NOT plot... actually there's more there than I expected! But it's very slice of life heavy); every character gets their own arc, and all the designs are super nice

Delicious Party Precure: cooking themed; do not watch on an empty stomach; kind of a light and fluffy season; has a cool nonbinary character in a support role, plus a boy who is not technically a Cure, but Cure-adjacent (still transforms, different name); I bounced off it a little, but mostly because I was busy?

Hirogaru Sky: sky + heroism themed; we only have promo stuff, but I'm very hyped

100. Opinion on all the Protagonists!

Protagonists my beloved....

Makoto: He's just your normal, run of the mill guy! I guess I can sorta see why people don't like him bc he's a pretty blank slate, but I think that's part of his charm.

Hajime: I think he's pretty funny. Mostly in the way that he's a little sassy, and that he's pretty relatable to how you might act being thrown into a weird situation with a colorful array of people.

Komaru: OK UH I know nothing about UDG, and don't intend on watching a play through or playing but bc she is Makoto's sister, she gets a gold star in my book.

(But that's) Kaede ('s lie isn't it?): I WISH WE GOT MORE TIME WITH HER.. She's very sweet and it woulda been cool to have a female protag, with Shuichi being the deuteragonist. I love the switch we got, but I think it woulda been cool to at least get a couple more chapters with her.

Shuichi: Don't get me wrong, I love all the protags so very much, but Shuichi has a special place in my heart. I think aside from Kaede, he's got more personality than most of the other protags I think. Unlike DR1 and arguably SDR2 (imo) I don't see myself in the game, but rather see everything from his perspective, which is really interesting. I love his relationship with a lot of the characters (Kokichi and training trio my beloved) and his character development throughout the whole game is so fun to watch. Really I could write circles around this guy about how cool I think he is. Like I said, I love all the protagonists, but Shuichi is just my special little guy.

95: Ultimate OTP - Shuichi/Gonta probably? Also Shuichi/Gonta/Kaito counts as well, so good, so good. (But it's hard because there are just SO MANY GOOD SHIPS, HOW TO PICK?? Here, I shall list some more I like a lot!!

Gundham/Sonia, Hajime/Fuyuhiko, Fuyuhiko/Peko, Mondo/Taka, Himiko/Tenko, Shuichi/Kaito, Shuichi/Keebo, Shuichi/Kaito/Maki, Kirumi/Ryoma, Gonta/Gundham, Aoi/Sakura, my brain is going a little crazy, there are so many good ones out there! like tbh if they're kind to each other, I'm probably cool with it!!!)

96: Ultimate BrOTP - (hey my fav number!) Um!! Again, favorites are not easy for me, so have a list! Shuichi/Kaede, Sonia/Gonta, Hifumi/Angie, Fuyuhiko/Gonta, Sonia/Gundham/Kazuichi (but in a non-annoying way lol), Gonta/Kokichi, Gonta/Sakura, Nekomaru/Sakura/Gonta/Akane, rambling rambling hahaha... Also! Again, if they could be chill with each other, I like to see it! So some ships and friendships could really go either way for me.

100: Ultimate NOTP - The first I think of is an easy one, which is Gonta/Kokichi. I love seeing a healthy friendship with them! I also understand how people could enjoy shipping them romantically. I am not one of them though, there are some things that happened that really just feel unforgivable and while rectifying the past to make a stable friendship is fine, I don't think a healthy romantic relationship could come from it. Also not crazy about Hajime/Nagito, that shit was wildly unhealthy from many angles and until the entire cast of each game gets therapy, that one should be on the backburner for a bit.

Thanks for asking friend!!!! On to thinking about ships that make me happy again... :3

what's something new you noticed on your rewatch of v3?

ah this is an interesting one!!! also a little difficult, since my memories on things like this tend to blend together quite quickly, so i’ve had to think a lot about how to answer (which is why this took so long, along with typing it all up, sorry for that!). i probably don’t have everything, but luckily i did take some screenshots while watching! so there’s some bits i definitely know that i noticed!!!

i was really focused on exactly how kokichi’s character develops because i did Know generally beforehand but i didn’t have a full clear progression in my head—and well it’s kokichi so there’s not really ever gonna be 100% full clear progression for him but i think i see it a lot more now!

like how he’s a lot more open to cooperation in chapter 1—he loudly supported going through the tunnel the first times, and was the one to suggest the daily dining hall meetings!

he’s much more open about his intentions in early chapters (there’ll be more examples of this later, but here’s one for ch1! himiko quickly brushes it off as a lie but it really doesn’t feel like one)

and he’s the one that’s the most insistent on monokuma being dead and the killing game being over. he REALLY doesn’t want anyone to get the idea of starting it up. and then there’s the shock when monokuma does show up (he quickly brushes it off with “at least it’s not boring” but you KNOW he’s screaming on the inside)

actually, i’m just noticing this now, he seems to have a strange amount of optimism towards the idea that everything will just work out in ch1—he doesn’t even investigate because he thinks everything will be completely solved through the pictures, and to do so would be pointless, which he later expresses regret for. it’s overshadowed for most people, i think, because of the tunnel scene and his later behavior, but honestly the fact that he even tried it without skepticism in the first place, along with his insistence about monokuma being dead and thinking that rantaro’s case will solve itself… wow he is showing Quite a bit of belief here without reason! hmmmmmm!!

i’d say he probably compensates for that for investigating even outside of cases in ch2, and being more skeptical of things. when everyone tries to ignore the killing game, kokichi brings it up (he’s tried to ignore it before. it didn’t work). kaede’s death also had him believe that cooperation would be punished—she was the one encouraging it, after all, and look at what happened to her—upping his paranoia, and the fact that he still believed there’s a mastermind didn’t help matters! now he has to be careful not only about working with anyone out of fear he’ll be punished in some way, but also about who he works with, destroying any good chances of working safely with the group as a whole!! yippee!!! that’s probably even more frustrating for him considering his talent is literally being a leader of a group

“Don’t get the wrong idea. I’m not saying we shouldn’t care about killing or dying… But I think it’d be better if we didn’t cooperate with each other… Actually, we *definitely* shouldn’t cooperate with each other!” […] “Think back to all of Monokuma’s actions so far. Whenever we tried to work together, Monokuma would retaliate with a plan to make us suffer. It happened when Kaede wanted us to cooperate, and again with these motive videos, right? Which means, the more we try to cooperate, the more he’ll try to make us suffer. That’s why I had no choice but to screw with you guys. But you ingrates didn’t even notice.”

THIS BIT GETS ME SO MUCH like Honestly he couldn’t be clearer with his intentions here. he denies an assumption he doesn’t care about death; he states his beliefs; he clearly outlines why he believes this with examples; even directly says Yes he screwed with them for a reason they just didn’t notice and tells them Why! (although he still has to insult everyone of course. he’s an ass who thinks he’s better than everyone else [affectionate]) but it goes ignored, and the reasoning is really interesting. shuichi’s thoughts are:

It’s *because* we’re trying to cooperate that Monokuma is making us suffer…? But what about… everything we went through..? What was the point of Kaede sacrificing herself…?

it’s been like 2 months since i was on ch2 so i don’t remember Exactly but i’m pretty sure nobody brings it up after this. it’s so interesting to me, i don’t have the brainpower to put my thoughts together more eloquently but i’m rotating it in my head. (i remember you bringing it up in the tags of the kaede/kokichi parallels post actually!!! mixed in with that bit about kokichi suggesting a family member of rantaro being the mastermind. i misremembered this the exact same way too until i went back to check i could’ve SWORN shuichi brought up the promise to kaede then but he didn’t💔iirc he actually considers the possibility? which was interesting but then it was never brought up again. Anyway back to the post)

rantaro also says something similar to kaede in ch1:

”You have what it takes to win…” ”What…?” “I was just thinking, what you said back there would have pissed off whoever’s running this. They definitely don’t want us holding hands, workin’ together… …They’re going to come for you, Kaede. With everything they’ve got. I’m a little worried about you. You’re just so…straightforward.”

and kaede just goes “geez that guy could stand to be a little less cryptic!” IT’S A REALLY INTERESTING PARALLEL TO ME and the fact that both him and kokichi describe “winning” the game 2nd survivor kokichi real

oh and also something i’ve been thinking about! i think kokichi had the mastermind plan forming in his head relatively early, but he didn’t actually want to do it at all, and didn’t start going “okay, i have to do this now” until about ch4. it’s more of a plan B, “if nothing else works, at least i have this”. but the issue is that in order for that to work, he has to keep it in mind until he knows whether he has to use it or not, which puts another barrier between him and working together with everyone else. even if other plans would be better if he could gain everyone’s trust, he has to keep the option available, so he can only gain people’s trust indirectly. he’s more actively looking for other ways to do this earlier on though, particularly in ch2. he expresses distaste about how people treat him early on (this bit immediately reminded me of the 4th trial where he’s like “bullying? yeah, what about it? that’s what you do in this game, right? you guys blame and gang up on me, but now you pretend to be good people?” and i was like Woa!!! his frustration in that scene does not come out of nowhere!!!)

it’s also the reason he frames the motive video watch party the way he does. if he says outright he’s trying to prevent more murders, and people don’t watch the videos, a later mastermind plan wouldn’t work! BUT, if he can get everyone to watch them, then his motive video plan works and people would know he doesn’t mean harm because they would see his video, better convincing them than he could do so himself! best case scenario there are no murders and people will see he’s being serious when he says he’s trying to help them. of course, watch party ends up not happening in the end, and also he’s lost quite a bit of trust from his closest ally (which could have also been prevented had he not been so paranoid since gonta DID agree to get everyone to watch the motive videos), so he’s getting closer to that mastermind plan.

another thing in ch2 is kokichi losing much influence in the group. this isn’t just because of the insect meet & greet! from the beginning people are wary around him, but he’s actually able to steer conversations in his favor at times, and if you look closely you can see his leader talent popping up. when he speaks up against kaede, the majority agree with him; the majority agree with him when he insists that the killing game is cancelled; again, when new flashback lights are presented, he expresses concern and everyone agrees not to use them. except kaito. and shuichi, i guess, but he doesn’t even get to answer before kaito cuts him off. people question kaito, he gives a speech to convince everyone to try them, and though it doesn’t work on kokichi, it sure works on everyone else!

they’ve clashed before, but now kaito is the one making things sway his way. this happens in the trial, too. kaito says he believes in maki without any reasoning, kokichi calls him an idiot, and everyone starts to agree. but things end up going in kaito’s favor. almost everyone else thinks he’s an idiot, but then tenko and shuichi switch around to his “side” of wanting to believe in maki despite all seemingly logical reasoning. most people still don’t agree with kaito before maki admits to seeing ryoma, but those two do, and kokichi is so baffled by shuichi believing in this (i feel like this could be worded better but i can’t think of anything right now, hopefully you get the idea though!)

the mastermind plan grows ever closer with ch3 and more being added to the courtyard message. it’s still not something he’d like to do. i’m unsure of the exact timeline, but i believe ch3 is around the time he asks miu for the inventions (possibly even earlier for the bugvac)? he wouldn’t be able to do it with her around, and he wouldn’t want to kill her just to keep to the plan. he’s probably trying to find the best moment to present the stuff to everyone so they can fight monokuma, and waiting for miu to make enough of them so that they can, considering there’s only enough electrohammers for the remaining people by ch5. but the guy’s in a tough situation, because on one hand he wants people to trust him so they can work together but on the other he needs them to distrust him in case plan B becomes necessary. he needs to be careful so that monokuma doesn’t notice him cooperating, because he also wants to keep being his favorite (i love it when he goes “riiiiiiight, monokuma? aren’t i so evil and twisted haha don’t you love me i am so entertaining if i died it would make the viewers mad haha right” he’s trying so hard). he doesn’t know who the actual mastermind is. people are already rightfully distrustful of him. but he still wants them to know his actual intentions, if they’re willing to. it doesn’t seem like it’s too late yet. (he is so wonderfully contradictory and human, i love him. paranoid asshole who wants to be Known but the idea is also terrifying and dangerous and he ends up sabotaging any opportunity for that to happen) so, he presents a piece of information he hopes will make people trust him: maki’s talent.

ok, well, that sounds like a lot of guessing stuff that’s not really in the game. i suppose. but i do have a reason!!! these lines stood out to me as i was watching:

he doesn’t even follow up with “that might be a lie” or anything. he really does want to work together with everyone, it’s just that finding a good opportunity to show it safely is Difficult and people don’t believe him. and he is really set on the idea that trusting people too much is a bad thing. there’s a few reasons why he only chose to reveal her talent now instead of before, when apparently “given his position” he’s known since the beginning: kaito’s blind faith in maki prompting him to show that actually, she Isn’t trustworthy! the believing thing is stupid and false, see? hopefully getting more people on kokichi’s side rather than kaito’s side. he tries again later to get people on his side, accusing kaito of trying to turn everyone against each other by defending maki and dragging her places

everyone mostly ignores him though and moves onto the flashback lights. as this and the next chapter go on he continuously tries to provoke maki, probably to get her to snap and show people she really Is just a killer or something, although she doesn’t budge until later. this was probably me reading too much into it but all of that did really stand out to me

well all the Good Plans fall apart with ch4. they could’ve all worked together using miu’s inventions but then The Case happened kokichi has a chapter-long mental breakdown ough it makes me so sad to think about. i mean after all that there wasn’t much coming back from it, the mastermind plan was likely the best thing he had. the “everyone hates me so the role of villain is perfect for me” always made me sad but especially This time after looking for everything else. dude…negative character development…..so good but also making me cry! me when i have good intentions but my own distrust and paranoia becomes my downfall as i start to have no one to turn to. me when the same person’s death that led the main character to become more open and outgoing towards others led me to become closed off and solitary despite both our earlier attitudes!!

he also succeeds in provoking maki in the end. i don’t have any particular comment for this i just took the screenshot i can’t remember what my thoughts were on it

i don’t have any other screenshots to do with this so that’ll be the end of that i guess!!! not super eloquently worded i’m just kinda throwing ideas out there, i can elaborate on any points that might not have been super well-explained if you want !

oh and for more silly stuff:

i like this maki line, it’s after shuichi says “about the size of a girl”. there’s one later (in ch4, i think) where i don’t remember what the first part was but she says “not to sound like tenko, but you men can really be like that”. these are 2 very throwaway lines but they almost make me think she was supposed to be the new feminist after tenko’s death (just without the weird stereotyping and much less extreme). she should’ve been. especially given kaito’s casual misogyny at times this would’ve been cool! unfortunately we didn’t get that :(

oh and

shuichi is a yo-kai watch fan, kokichi is a pokémon fan. this is a source of conflict between them and it is unknown if they can overcome this

A girl wearing a white dress with pink flowers was performing on the stage. Her brown boots stomped the ground in rhythm with her song that she was strumming on her guitar. The crowd was clapping along and swing dancing with their fellow strangers. The music united the people of The Hob. The performer smiled in the sweet moment.

The performer was none other than Y/n Vespertine. She was one of the common folk of District 12, her dad was a coal miner. Y/n found comfort in the music she sang, especially since adorning kids would come up to her and tell her that she looked like a princess. Everyone knew who she was. Whether it be from her dad or her singing, people knew her. They knew the crowd she hung with. She was a quiet girl, but her soul was grand and sweet. Sweeter than the honey that District 11 exported.

Her delicate hands strummed the guitar, not even taking a break from the end of one song before she started another. Y/n’s hands began strumming to a faster melody, which made the people dance and clap faster. The Hob was in unison because of her music. After the intro, she began her singing:

“𝘓𝘦𝘵 𝘮𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘦, 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘮𝘦 𝘥𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘯, 𝘭𝘢𝘺 𝘮𝘺 𝘣𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥

𝘋𝘰 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘱, 𝘥𝘰 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘭, 𝘐 𝘢𝘮 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶…”

Although the lyrics were rather macabre, they resonated with the crowd. They shouted along with the music even though they didn’t know the lyrics. But y/n’s performance came to an end after hours of singing, much to everyone’s dismay.

Y/n stepped off the stage and walked to the room where all the performing equipment was laid out. She saw two familiar faces that she didn’t expect to see– Leif Huxley and Savani Yearwood. They were her best friends ever since they survived The Rebellion together; the three hid out in a shed near the lake to avoid being seen by any peacekeepers that may have wanted to kill them. Unfortunately, Leif’s parents died, leaving him in his older sister’s care. Savani’s mom escaped, but she hasn’t been found. Y/n’s mom perished that day, too. Needless to say, the three had a tight bond no one could break.

Savani’s dad, Tripp, ended up becoming the Mayor of District 12. Leif and his sister opened up a flower shop down by the lake. They didn’t let their new wealth get to their head, though. They treated y/n the exact same and even provided extra food for her & her dad.

“There’s our performer!” Savani embraced y/n with her open arms. She managed to sneak out of her dad’s office to see y/n perform.

Leif wrapped his arm around y/n’s shoulders and gave her a kiss on her cheek. The two fell in love a few weeks prior and had Savani’s full support– life was good… maybe not perfect, but they made the most of the unfortunate events that led District 12 to poverty.

“You blew the crowd away, my darling.” Leif squeezed y/n harder. He was grinning ear to ear.

“I got you a surprise.” Savani boasted. She turned around to take the cloth off of a box. The box was rather big…

Y/n opened it and nearly jumped to the sky out of excitement. Savani had gotten her a custom-made guitar.

“Daddy got the wood from District 7. It’s pink ivory. Real expensive. But nothing’s too good for my dearest friend!” The girl said, hugging y/n from the side Leif wasn’t standing. The trio ended up in a group hug without pulling away. It was as if they were competing to see who could stay in the hug the longest. Leif was the first to pull away.

“Y’all wanna head down to the lake?” He asked. That was their hangout spot, no matter the season. The two girls nodded. Y/n left the guitar in the room backstage since she didn’t want to break it. The three of them snuck out of The Hob to walk about half a mile through the meadows until they got to their destination, where they then stood on the dock that went to about the middle of the lake. Leif ended up pushing y/n in. She gasped then laughed once she came back up. Him and Savani ended up jumping in after her. They couldn’t care less that they all had their clothes on, or that the sun was setting; it was a beautiful moment that they all relished in.

They ended up floating on their backs, just staring at the sky. Leif reached down to y/n’s hand, intertwining their fingers together. Savani was daydreaming in her own world… she was free in that calming moment… she didn’t have to worry about the stresses of being her dad’s secretary. She was just… a teenager in that moment. It was what she so desperately craved. The other two looked at her. They knew what was on her mind.

“Are you okay, ‘Vani?” Y/n asked. Concern laced her voice.

“It’s weird… one minute we were kids that were running in the meadow near y/n’s house… it felt like yesterday. And now… now we’re here. We’re almost adults… what's next for us?”

“Whatever it is, all of us will stick together! We’re THE trio of District 12!” Leif reassured Savani… her solemn smile shifted from being sad to being one of genuine happiness and serenity.

“When I follow in Daddy’s footsteps, I’m appointing y’all to my cabinet. I can’t live without my friends’ advice.” The brunette bragged. She knew the stars were within her grasp. Nothing was out of reach for her, but the same couldn’t be said for y/n.

Y/n only had a coal mining legacy ahead of her. It wasn’t the worst possible job, but it’s not the one she wanted either. She tried to hide her disappointment… but she couldn’t. So y/n got out of the water and dried herself off.

“I’m gonna head home. Daddy’s prolly worried ‘bout me.” Y/n announced. The other two said their goodbyes and wished her a safe return.

Y/n made it home where her dad, Ridge, was waiting for her. He was dirty from mining all day, but he was cooking dinner. It wasn’t much– just pea soup.

Y/n kissed Ridge on the cheek and went to her room. There were paintings of her, Leif, and Savani all together on her deteriorating dresser and dirty mirror. There were also luxurious gifts that Savani had given her over the years. The one that y/n loved the most was a beautiful gemstone necklace. It was made out of real silver and [insert y/n’s birthstone here].

Ridge called her for dinner. The two sat in the small kitchen and talked about their days.

“Vani gave me a guitar today.”

“Did she? Awfully nice of her. Did y’all hang at The Hob?”

“Sure did. Went to the lake after, too.”

“Y’all always loved that lake. Prolly’ the only kids here to hang out there.”

“Mhm… I think it’ll be our spot for a while. So many memories there.”

“Memories’re good to make. Not many good things to enjoy when you get older.”

Those words really sunk in. As much as it hurt, Ridge was right. After The Reaping this year, the three had to decide what they would do for the rest of their lives. Y/n expected Leif to propose soon due to how old they were getting. The thought of marrying him made her blush, and Ridge could definitely tell it.

“I always liked that Leif boy. His parents were real kind folk. His sister a kind young lady too. She gives us some flowers sometimes, she prolly think it might cheer us up.”

Y/n nodded at her dad’s approval. She finished up her soup then kissed Ridge goodnight.

May 31st.

There was a celebration for Tripp Yearwood’s birthday at The Hob where y/n was asked to perform. She woke up early and put on her nicest dress.

Ridge was still asleep, so y/n kissed his forehead and walked to The Hob.

Savani and Leif were already decorating for Yearwood’s birthday party. Of course, Savani was taking charge and bossing Leif around. It was the usual for those two, but y/n still found it humorous.

“Hey, y’all!” Y/n greeted them. The two stopped their bickering and waved to y/n.

“Y/n!” Savani was ecstatic to see her there. “Your guitar is still in the backroom. Daddy was real excited for me to give it to you. You oughta play it today.”

Y/n went to the room to get it as per Savani’s suggestion. She put the guitar on and went back to the main room for a mic check. People started arriving for Tripp’s birthday. They took their seats at the beautifully decorated tables. Leif was holding hands with y/n as they walked around to talk to the crowd. Savani was being her typical hostess self and entertaining the crowd until the food got there… she was one of the very select few people in District 12 that could afford bread– more or less an entire catered banquet. Because of that, people were starting to stuff their faces with food after it arrived; they were like piranhas.

Tripp Yearwood finally arrived. He gave y/n and Leif a warm hug as a thanks for helping his daughter with the party. Y/n thought of him as a second dad, so she was more than happy to help Savani make his birthday special.

Y/n’s actual dad was there too. He requested to get off work early to see his darling daughter perform– he arrived a bit later than most people, but he was there.

Savani introduced y/n to the crowd, then the music started. Her typical tavern-style music was the entertainment of the evening. The well-fed crowd clapped along to her singing, a few of them were even dancing. Parents had their kids on their feet, dancing with them since they were so little. Y/n was the star of the show, even though it was literally the mayor’s birthday. But where were Savani and Leif?

Y/n took a small break to find the two. They weren’t exactly the type to disappear in the middle of her performance, so she was unbelievably worried. What if peacekeepers had gotten to them?!

The girl walked into the room backstage and her heart stopped. Her world stopped.

Leif and Savani had their lips pressed together. They were full on making out. In the middle of Mayor Yearwood’s birthday celebration. Y/n let out a loud wail, which alerted the two of them along with several people from the crowd. None of the bystanders said anything. Not Ridge. Not Mayor Tripp. Not even Leif’s sister. The world was frozen and people stood there as y/n felt like her heart was ripped from her body.

Y/n slammed down the guitar and ran away. Only Ridge ran after her…
