The last of the ref sheets currently done, but not the last of the art I currently have done.  Anyway, I loved Exile from ShadowClan, and I loved Volewhisper and getting to see his story and his growth. So I decided to draw him not long after the book came out - it just took me a while to get around to uploading it.

You can find the reverse side of his design here.

For his physical description, Volewhisper is described as having a scarred left hind leg. I based his leg scar (as well as his chest/throat and his shoulder scar on his other side) off of the scars shown in Exile from ShadowClan. I looked at a lot of pictures and videos online of cats with torn ACLs (since Runningnose said something vital in his leg got torn, I decided to use that as my reference), and I saw one cat in particular whose leg was kinda stuck being fully extended, and that seemed to fit with Volewhisper described his leg and hip as being stiff, so I went with that. So Volewhisper can't really bend his leg, he can walk on it but it looks a bit awkward, and he has to sort of keep his back permanently hunched because of the way the leg is positioned when he's standing. I hope I portrayed that well here. Other than that, I made him a pretty sturdy tom with a thick pelt, like he was portrayed in EfS.

For his pattern, Volewhisper is described as a pale brown tom with yellow eyes. I very heavily based his design on his appearance in EfS, though I added another belly fur color to make it look more realistic.

Overally, I'm really happy with how he turned out.

i made full “canon” allegiances for the start of midnight: link to google doc

“canon” is in quotations because a lot of this is guesswork about who logically would be around at that point in time, but aren’t listed in allegiances or mentioned in the book. for example, by crowpaw and owlpaw’s conversation in dawn, it can be inferred that owlpaw was a kit during midnight, but he is not listed in the book’s allegiances.

this is mainly a resource for fanworks.

general stuff that’s all still same as last time:

snowbird - she doesn’t show up until po3, but since ratscar is her brother and their parent(s) aren’t blackstar or russetfur (and very very likely not tallpoppy), she was probably born before all prequel/arc 1 cats died out

tallpoppy is a warrior for now, but will move to the nursery soon

riverclan:

reedkit/reedwhisker - i know that he was technically born in tpb, but in moonrise leafpaw mentions that he is recently apprenticed, so i am going with that age for the sake of the allegiances

icewing - she has kits in dark river. i made her a warrior so that she’s a decent age when she has her kits, since the gap between tnp and po3 isn’t very large

mintfur - he’s the father of icewing’s kits. he also has an apprentice in dark river

Story:

Not all monsters know that they are monsters, or can tell where the line is that even they can never cross, at least not without living in regret and anguish.

That’s why Tanglemouse needed a test.

He wanted to kill his brother’s kits. After all, they were the result of him getting with a she-cat Tanglemouse had been in love with since he laid eyes on her. But could he hurt his own kin? Kill them?

So he picked the other ones first. Darkpeak was still carrying anyway. Littletail was in the nursery with her young kit. And really, it wasn’t like she would miss him forever. She barely knew him--he was only half a moon old. 

Giving birth to him had been a tough ordeal, and he was still rather weak. That’s why she was in such a deep sleep, not noticing when Tanglemouse snuck in and took her kit away. 

He couldn’t just smother the thing. He had a plan. That was why he went through the trouble of taking the tiny Volekit to a Twoleg garden, where he knew dogs would be. He only had to drop this thing on the grass below, and let its wails of confusion and fear lead to it being found.

He had to get to the second part of the plan quickly. He knew that Gorsehail would be at the dirtplace for a long time. He had made sure to add a certain berry or two in his food while he was busy cuddling Tanglemouse’s love. Before that, he had made sure to tell Gorsehail to check out the cute little Volekit in the nusery--ensuring that his scent would be one of the freshest, then disguising his own when it came to the deed.

As Tanglemouse entered, he first made sure to ruffle his fur and flatten his bedding--making it look like he had just woken up. He then woke up Gorsehail’s mate--his future mate--to ask her where his brother was.

It was a simple enough question. But when Volekit’s absence became known, it was clear that someone had to have taken him. They began to blame the other Clans until someone accused Gorsehail, pointing out that he had been missing for most of the night.

The weeping Littletail confirmed that the freshest scent other than hers had been the tom’s. 

It was enough to raise suspicions, but not quite get rid of him. Tanglemouse decided to ‘help his brother clear his name.’ The best way to do that would be to find the kit. They did, or at least chewed bits of him scattered in the Twoleg garden. Tanglemouse told Gorsehail to leave him out of the discovery--after the accusasings cats were throughing at him, he deserved all the praise.

Just as planned, Gorsehail knowing where to find Volekit only added to the suspicion. All Tanglemouse had to do nothing but deny his involvement. What could Gorsehail prove? 

Then, the sorrowful mate and brother bonded over their shared shock. Tanglemouse promised Darkpeak that he would be the best father to her kits that he could. He delivered. He visited them, played with them, taught them the basics of Clan life. 

At night, he snuck them out for a fun adventure--something their mother and Clan wouldn’t allow, which was why they had to be quiet. By the time they would be screeching in agony as the dogs tore them apart, they would be too far for their Clanmates to hear.

The general belief was that Gorsehail had come back to enact revenge, and patrols were sent to find and punish him, finding nothing. 

Darkpeak stated that she couldn’t stand not hearing little mewls of laughter or the pitter-patter of tiny paws, which was why she was quick to want more kits. This time, they would be Tanglemouse’s.

The novelty fell away quickly. His kits were no longer miracles, but burdens. Burdens he knew how to rid himself of. But a tail-length from the fence, he was jumped.

Turned out that a patrol had found Gorsehail, and that he was able to convince them enough of his story to watch Tanglemouse carefully. They could bring him back to the camp, they admitted. Have him punished, or chase him off like they did his innocent brother.

But he fed kits to dogs.

They twisted his back leg. Not enough to break it, but enough to prevent him from leaping to freedom. Then, they carried him atop the fence and through him over it, his yowl of pain at the landing on his limb attracting the dogs.

Meet SpellClan!

Opalstar had been walking with her Clan for days, just trying to seek out a safe home. Their old Clan had succumbed to the corruption, and she barely managed to escape with as many as she could. Hazelfeather - the most experienced of them all - quickly took charge as her right hand cat. Rainblossom had been the daughter of a medicine cat (though not many had known that) and took her place as the medicine cat. Pineflare barely managed to grab her apprentice, Graypaw, before as many kits as possible; Butterflykit, Rainkit, Heatherkit, Volekit, and Foggykit were the only ones to make it through.

The grass soon turned into harsh rocks, cutting into already sore paws. Opalstar felt her tail twitch as she spied a cave, sighing and turning to Hazelfeather, "We need to rest for the night."

Hazelfeather hummed, "You're right." It was all that was said, and they pushed forward. Volekit and Foggykit, the youngest of the kits, whined and had to be carried for the rest of the way. The darkness of the cave gave way to a dull glow and Opalstar called the cats to a halt. She motioned Hazelfeather and Pineflare to follow her, flanking both sides. Deeper into the cave, their eyes widened and lit up with the faint glow of blue crystals.

"This is..." Pineflare muttered, only able to look around.

"This is where StarClan was leading us," Hazelfeather determined. Opalstar's tail twitched. Magic pulsated in the air, hair standing up as if before a thunderstorm.

"Regardless, this will be our new home," Opalstar decreed.

Opalstar (she/her), the leader of the newly established SpellClan. She is a dark brown and white she-cat with heather blue eyes. She has geokinesis, the ability to manipulate the earth around her. She a charismatic smooth-talker who can silver tongue her way out of any situation, but also bolster her fellow cats. She is a great fighter from her time in her old Clan... though she doesn't like to think or talk about it like the others do.

Hazelfeather (she/her), the deputy of the newly established SpellClan. She is a dark gray tabby and white she-cat with bronze eyes. She uses the power of illusions, able to make you see what she wants you to see. She is sneaky, able to creep around without being seen or heard; though her illusions help as well. She has a strong connection to StarClan that aids her leader and Clan.

Rainblossom (she/they), the medicine cat of the newly established SpellClan. They are a pale gray smoke and white transfemme cat with emerald eyes. She has telekinesis, able to move objects with her mind. They are slightly childish, more likely to be seen playing with the apprentices and kits than gathering herbs but they still do their job regardless. She is an excellent fighter, taught by her mother... she was taught medicine by her father, her old Clan's medicine cat, though nobody knew he was her father.

Pineflare (she/her), a warrior of the newly established SpellClan. She is a long-furred light brown tabby and white she-cat with emerald eyes. She has pyrokinesis. Her apprentice is Graypaw, of which he was before their old Clan became corrupted. She tends to get lost in her own thoughts, exploring rabbitholes or philosophical conundrums rather than focusing on the present. She is particularly skilled at hunting, though she must be careful not to let her fire get out of control when she uses it.

Graypaw (he/him), an apprentice of the newly established SpellClan. He is a pale gray tabby and white point tom with green-yellow eyes. He has cryokinesis. His mentor is Pineflare, of which she was before their old Clan became corrupted. The destruction of his old Clan, his family, made his heart turn as cold as his powers, simply wanting vengeance for his old Clan.

Butterflykit (they/them), a kit of the newly established SpellClan. They are a gray and white intersex cat with silver eyes. They are very quiet, and are now nearly mute after the destruction of their Clan.

Rainkit (she/her), a kit of the newly established SpellClan. She is an unusually dappled brown she-cat with grey eyes. She's quite the nervous little thing, and can almost always be seen shivering.

Heatherkit (she/her), a kit of the newly established SpellClan. She is a cream ticked and white she-cat with grey eyes. Her head is in the clouds, often daydreaming.

Volekit (he/him), a kit of the newly established SpellClan. He is a brown tabby tom with amber eyes. He is always hounding the older cats for answers to endless questions.

Foggykit (he/him), a kit of the newly established SpellClan. He is a white and balck tabby tom with copper eyes. He always has a smile or flick of the tail that makes anyone gush over him.

So, each cat has a special kinetic power. They don't learn what their power is until they are apprenticed. I'll be posting the first couple moons soon!

Reborn warrior ep 6 (ignore the 7 on picture)

Volestar was skyclan leader before losing his final live

Backstory:he was born as volekit to whistlefang and copperpath of Thunderclan

along with his sister's,leafkit and darkkit

As a kit,he loves playing with his sisters and listening to stories

he also love chasing butterflies

at 6 moons old,he become a appreciate and is renamed volepaw

his mentor is whistlefang ex-mate wolfrush(she-cat)

Wolfrush was strict and harsh but volepaw always pulled through

at 10 moons,leafpaw passed away from greencough

volepaw mourn the death of his sister and was sad for almost a week

At 12 moons,volepaw earned the warrior name:volewind

After warrior ceremony,Darkeye came out as trans and started to use he/him pronouns

Of course he supports Darkeye since one of their parents is Genderfliud

at 24 moons,he started to have a crush on a trans she-cat named owlsky

Owlsky is brown tabby cat with green eyes

2 moons later, he confessed his love to owlsky

She accepted the confession and become mates with him

Around the same time,Darkeye announce that he's expecting kits

But it's uknown who's other parent of kits are

Volewind is quite exitced to be a uncle

A moon later,darkeye give birth to two kits(one is intersex cat named moonkit and other is she-kit named blackkit)

Volewind was happy for darkeye having family of his own

2 moons later,he get to mentor a tom named snakepaw

Snakepaw was kinda rebellious and want to do whatever he wants

Luckily volewind stop him from doing crazy things

A moon later,the deputy retire and the leader have to choose a new Deputy

To volewind surprise,the leader choose him as deputy

Volewind accepted the role of deputy

Two moons later,his niece and nebling become appreciates

He was very proud of them

Also he become best friends with shadowclan deputy weedclaw(greenish brown cat(it/claw) with blue eyes and heavily scarred body)

3 moons later,his appreciate become a warrior named snakedrop

Unfortunately around the same time,blackpaw accidentally ate poisoned prey and dies

Everyone mourned the death of blackpaw

Even volewind comfort his brother at mourning vigil

2 moons later,the leader lost their final live

Volewind was renamed volestar and earned his nine lives

He chose a warrior named stripedwillow as his deputy

A moon later,moonpaw become a warrior named moonwind

Volestar is so proud of his nebling

However the happyiness doesn't last long

2 moons later, owlsky was killed by weedclaw(now weedstar)

He was sad for death of his death and also anger for weedstar betraying him and killing his mate

So he started a war with shadowclan

2 moons later,snakedrop came back from a daily walk with a kit

He confessed that kit is named bugkit and he is father of the kit

when someone asked about the mother,he answered that bugkit mother is a kittypet

Volestar was disappointed but not angry

volestar let bugkit stay in clan and be nursed by one of queens

A moon later,darkeye died of greencough

volestar is saddened by his brother death but he try his best to move on

But by the next moon,his final live is taken by weedstar in battle

the clan mourned but their leader will come back but as the enemy clan cat
