I always took Kara changing the reason why she lied to Lena from 5x01 to the finale was because she’d lost control of her temper. Like 5x01 was her being brutally honest and emotionally vulnerable, but the S5 finale was her being angry and resentful. Because her guilt and grief (over losing her relationship with Lena) turned into resentment as a better way to process it along with all the other stress she was dealing with at the time. Because you gotta remember she was dealing with a lot right then: she had just lost Jeremiah, Alex had nearly been killed in the VR, she HAD thought Lena set her up & vice versa just hours earlier, she thought Brainy had betrayed the group, the DEO was just destroyed, and Leviathan was trying to kill her and basically end the world with the tech Lex and Lena (unintentionally) helped perfect. Girl was dealing with a lot, especially since all these events happened to her in a matter of days (back to back). And Kara has never handled stress and/or anger well at times like these (S3 was a pretty good example of that). It doesn’t put her in the right whatsoever, but understand it. She said a petty, hypocritical, and mean thing when she was almost at a breaking point. That’s what Kara does at times like that. It’s her go to coping mechanism. Then she gets sent to the Phantom Zone in the very next ep/season. S6 really dropped the ball on handling how traumatic that would’ve been for Kara and Lena, and how this trauma would’ve enhanced her more toxic way of dealing with these types of situations. She totally would’ve isolated herself from her friends and family, trying to get a handle on it but only spiraling instead, with Lena trying to make up (in her eyes) for what she did (in her own negative Luthor-raised/trauma-induced coping mechanism consisting of doing whatever it takes to gain the approval of someone you love). All of that should’ve been explored, though that’s another writing issue entirely.
I guess my resentment stems not from what Kara says, specifically, but the fact that no one corrected her when she defaulted into defensive mode. I mean, I love an angry and hurt Kara. But I know its the WRITERS when Alex does her "always was evil" speech earlier on, and they don't bother to offer a fresh perspective from Nia or Brainy.
And its the writers who piss me off.
Your mentioning of the phantom zone makes me wish that Kara had withdrawn again after coming back, with only Lena being allowed to slowly get closer, and then subsequently bring her back to the rest of their friends. That would have been really nice.

Hey there
Favourite supergirl episodes from any season?
Hey there back to you, I was waiting on this ask in case something happened and made me count the finale in 🤣🤣 I played myself.
1x01 I think it’s a great ep, it really cements kara’s character and her core motivations.
Tumblr media
Black Mercy, Red tornado and when Kara discovers her mom new about krypton’s imminent demise!! AKA when Kara was allowed to show other emotion besides happiness and sadness
Red Kryptonite was also so good although would have loved for Kara and Alex to address more everything that happened there.
Barry/the Flash crossover their dynamic is so fun and pure
overall s1 is probably the best in a sense of plot and coherency.
Alex’s coming out arc (i loved it, not a sanvers fan though)
S3 but specefic parts like Reign/Sam and SC angst (what s5 should have been hello??)
3x02 “Triggers” with Kara going through some of her unresolved trauma and danvers sisters moments
Kara in Argo, loved to see a little bit more of her kryptonian self or what could have been if krypton hadn’t exploded
Red Daughter eps!!! all about it, she deserved better and in my canon she’s alive and well and happy
Tumblr media
4x18 “all about eve” and 4x19 “American Dreamer” was also a really good with all Nia’s speech, sg-kara + lena + alex teaming up, kara’s journalist side on action, and
5x01 i think was good, with kara’s confession, lena’s underlying intentions  (i could have done withouth noncere but oh well), sc scenes obvs, andrea’s and vr lenses introduction, it was very promising... then the rest of the season dropped
5x08 or 5x07, i don’t remember when happens kara’s and lena’s confrontation
Jeremiah’s final death, lena reaching out to kara even though they’re in bad terms, alex’s scene with kara about how jeremiah was not even there for her after kara arrived, kelly supporting her through the whole thing, lex being dramatic with lillian “next thing you know they are playing monopoly”
Finale but like the last 20-25 minutes of it, idk what the rest was about yikes

Do you still ship Kara with Lena after 501? I’ve always liked the potential for them, but now idk. I’ve seen many SC fans justify Lena’s actions, but the focus is on Lena’s feelings not Kara’s. I just don’t get how Lena could she’s manipulate Kara the way she will, by pretending to forgive her. I saw SCs use Iris’s POV in 1x21 to justify Lena’s anger, but the comparison is moot imo: Iris was heartbroken, but didn’t hesitate to save Barry’s life at the same time. Lena punched Kara in a VR.
Short answer: YES
Long answer: YES YES YES. 5x01 was a Supercorp masterpiece. If anything, I love Supercorp more than ever. I love this storyline. We have waited so long for Kara to come out to Lena and I think it’s being done really well. While I’ve never been fond of the whole ‘will Lena be evil or won’t she’ thing the writers love to tease, I think this is something very interesting to explore.
Lena has been lied to and manipulated her entire life by her family. So naturally, having Kara, someone she trusted implicitly, the first person who she thought she had a completely honest and genuine relationship with, turn out to be Supergirl is devastating. Like Kara has said herself, she knew that lying to and manipulating Lena by keeping her identity secret was the worst thing she could do to Lena. It’s messed up to do to anyone you care about, but with Lena’s trauma, it stings even worse.
Kara knows what she did was wrong and is genuinly sorry. I don’t think Kara is a bad person and I don’t want Kara to get hurt. But, I totally understand the pain and betrayal Lena is feeling. Coupled with her unhealthy upbringing where lies and revenge were the norm, I’m not surprised Lena initally felt like she had to do something to betray Kara and make Kara feel a similar kind of pain. But, Kara’s confession came at a perfect time. Lena’s emotions during her speech were so real and raw. I believe she meant every word of it. I think Lena really wants to forgive Kara, but after the emotion of the moment wore off and Lena was on her own again that night, thinking it over, the hurt came back. She can’t let go of the pain just yet. I don’t think she wants revenge anymore, but her walls are up and she’s terrified of Kara hurting again so she’s keeping Kara at arms length.
Lena still has good intentions. Even with her half forgiveness of Kara and pretending everything is ok, she is doing it not to hurt Kara, but because she knows she and Kara share the same goal of making the world better. She doesn’t want her and Kara to be enemies.
Healing and forgiveness take time. Kara lied to Lena for years. That level of deception can’t be fixed with one tearful conversation, no matter how badly Kara and Lena may both want it to. But I will always believe in the good in both of them and how they have brought out the best in each other. They will get through this and come out stronger. They will always be best friends. They will always love each other.

Supergirl 5x01 Event Horizon Thoughts
So...
Lena was using VR tech to play out fantasies of murdering Kara.
Lena sold CatCo to someone who she knew would turn it into something antithetical to everything Kara believes in.
Lena signed all the journalists at CatCo to a new three year contract, meaning before selling it, meaning that if Kara, James or Nia (or anyone else) decides to quit, then the non-compete clause effectively ends their career in journalism and makes them unable to support themselves for three years.
Lena then planned to use CatCo as the instrument by which she would out Kara as Supergirl, thereby destroying Kara’s career as a journalist, her ability to have a normal life, and putting everyone Kara loves in immanent danger of being targeted for retaliation against Supergirl, or leverage against her (a la 2x19 type scenerios).
Lena only changed course because Kara told her the truth, which gives her an opportunity to hurt Kara even more deeply than the reveal.
Lena’s reason for being mad at Kara is that Kara didn’t tell her she was Supergirl, but Kara told Lena she was Supergirl, and yet, Lena is still riding the revenge train.
Lena has been lying to Kara about not knowing her identity for over a month, despite ostensibly being mad because Kara is lying to her and sees no hypocrisy in this.
Lena has spent the entire time planning to betray Kara’s trust, even though her anger is over a supposed betrayal of trust sees no hypocrisy in this.
Lena planned on outing Kara at her Pulitzer Awards Ceremony, ruining what was supposed to be an absolutely momentous moment for Kara.
I’m just going to link back to this post, and then ask all of y’all to tell me how wrong I am about Lena again.
Lena’s behavior is not okay, folks.  Seriously, this shit is NOT OKAY.

Hello ! Maybe I have a suggestion for your "supergirl writers not knowing what they write on their own show". When Lena bought CatCo. You can see that in 3x02 when Lena tells Kara she didn't buy for her friend (video on youtube : Supergirl 3x02 Kara and Lena Scene and Winn/ Alex and Kara), and in 5x01 when she did it for her (SG VR opening scene + Lena finally admitted she bought CatCo for Kara - 5x01) .Maybe she says that to manipulate Kara, but I'm not sure, it's your call ^^.
just posted here! thank you for the request :)

Ok but is anyone going to talk about the verbal SPANKing between Andrea and Lena in the lab where Andrea effectively grounded her from the VR? And Lena just stood there and took it like the bottom she is.
"bottom” you know they took turns bending each other over their respective office desks. they did not put THAT scene in 5x01 for this disrespect

I'm of the opinion that this Lena feels a bit OOC. It's 0 to 100 real quick.
0 to 100 is a great way to put it.
Last week, Lena was working out her hurt and anger that were very specifically about Kara in VR. This week she’s moved onto transforming Eve into Hope, like for real? We went from punching imaginary characters to sticking an AI in a living person’s mind?
I’ve read a couple of explanations about why this is plausibly in character for someone as emotionally unmoored as Lena right now, but I’ll be honest: I am not persuaded that this isn’t a big shift for the character and a line she has never crossed before ... at the very least.
Is she going to spiral even more now that Andrea has cut off her supply to her chosen form of therapy?
I also don’t believe a steep fall and redemption were ever necessary for Lena to grow, or for us as an audience to be invested in her story. If there’s anything the last three years and 5x01 showed us, Lena and Kara and their relationship are more than enough drama to power the season, without adding to it Lena’s soul and deeply questionable human reprogramming experiments.
I do think a reckoning is in the offing, and ‘falling into the light’ is ultimately the outcome we’ll see for Lena. I’m just not happy with the plot points it seems this show is hellbent on taking to get us there. :)

My review for Supergirl 5x01
Last episode was awesome, I really loved it But I think we have to talk about Lena’s history this season.
Clearly all this AI that she’s using and the VR world when she is fighting Supergirl is going to be messy later in the season. We see her in the first minutes of the episode that she was very angry and actually she was planning to expose Kara to the world, then we know that she sold CATCO and if you think about she sold the company to someone who knows, Andrea Rojas who has this specific way to write news, Lena know how painful that would be for Kara too.
Then we saw the reveal...for every escenario in my mind, or fanfiction that I read, I never expected a scene like this, it was just perfect, every reaction, every tear, everything about the scene was amazing. I think Melissa did a great job speaking in that moment, the dialogue was beautiful and very truthful to the character, we love Kara, she’s a very compasionate character and we know that she never had bad intentions to keeping this secret to Lena, but it was time.
About Lena’s reaction to it, Katie Mcgrath did good too, because she shows how surprised was Lena with the reveal, she never expect Kara to actually tell her the truth, she was shock, she didn’t expect that at all, then we saw that she didn’t reveal Kara’s identity, she hesitated, she didn’t do it, because she does love her after all.
To the end of the episode we saw Kara giving her the watch, in case she needs her, and here we thought that Lena actually forgive Kara but no, like she said Kara broke her heart, but this got me a little confused because I don’t know what she’s planning, she said something about how she’s going to used Supergirl’s trust, and did you catch that she never says Kara? She always talking about Supergirl, but at the end, is Kara, like she’s not capable to say her friend name.
I saw a few theories that said that maybe Lena is going to change, because the AI is going to influence her into this new villain form, but seriously I don’t like that theory, my personal theory is that she’s going to keep pretending, and she’s going to find out that this VR world and AI is Leviathan, the big bad of the season, because Lena is not the bad of the season, she’s hurt, it’s very different. Like I said she’s going to keep pretending, and when everything will going to shit, she’s going to have to stop with that and maybe relay on Kara and the superfriends to fight this big evil. and not forget that the crisis crossover is coming, how she’s going to react when she finds out that Lex is alive, that she didn’t kill him, I think eventually she’s gonna need Kara, like she always do, and I truly believe that Supercorp is going to be fine in the end, but it’s gonna be painful to watch this but in way really gratificating because everyone is here to see Melissa and Katie’s chemistry.
Favorites scenes:
- Probably the reveal, it was heartbreaking and devastating but beautiful at the same time.
- How Kara take her glasses off with Lena there! That was a typical Lois and Clark dinamic in every, tv show, movie or comic I mean come on.
- Nia and Brainy, I loved that Brainy was afraid of hurting Nia like the last time, they’re too cute.

my pitch for season 6 of supergirl is that the opening shot is of lena in her 5x01 outfit sitting up with the blue VR lenses, and going “shit that was weird” and then going and talking to Kara and everything that happened in S5 is just never mentioned again because it never happened

Rewatched 5x01 tonight to unwind and I have decided that Hope should have been the first big bad of the season. The season could have only been made better if they'd eschewed "technology/escapism is bad, hurr durr" for something more like "giving an AI too much nuance and agency could have unforeseen consequences."
Like, I'm already rife with cool ideas. Maybe Lena falls asleep in her VR lenses, which gives Hope an opportunity to alter Lena's personality/memories so that she doesn't have that "scorpion" credo going on.
Maybe Hope assimilates with Eve of her own volition in an attempt to be something Lena can be more personable with, or to punish Eve for harming Lena, thereby proving she too has a scorpion complex.
Maybe Hope threatens to release the Supergirl file to Andrea in order to keep Lena away from Kara when it seems as though Lena might forgive her friend after all.
Like, I dunno. The hot take that "vr is turning everyone into apathetic zombies" falls a little flat when you consider all the protests going on right now.

Was Lena beating up Supergirl the whole time in VR?
We got one VR scene in 5x01 that showed Lena taking her aggression out on Supergirl. Then at the end of the episode we got another implied scene that she was going to do the same thing.
In 5x02 Andrea mentioned how precious the VR contacts were to Lena and she knew that she spent a lot of time in them.
However, do you think that Lena really spent the whole time beating up Supergirl or do you think that she spent some time in other scenarios?
Such as:
Replaying the good moments between her and Kara before she knew the truth
Starting their relationship from scratch where Kara tells Lena she’s Supergirl earlier on
Good moments that play out differently because Lena knows Kara is Supergirl
Scenarios of where Kara and Lena would be at now if Kara had told her the truth from the start
Creating scenarios where Kara wasn’t Supergirl at all and Supergirl was a separate person
I know she was angry and wanted to take her aggression out, but I have a hard time believing she spent her whole time doing that. Part of her must have wanted to recreate new/different scenarios that were good between her and Kara.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Why is the theater empty in the 5x01 promo pictures? VR?
Ooh, good question. My guess is it was where the Pulitzer was taking place but for some reason they had to evacuate, possibly a DEO threat, and that's why everyone is looking towards something. Also I think it might be Lena, and that's why she isn't in the promo pics but she is such an integral part of season 5

Supergirl 5x01 Semi-liveblogging
I’m not sure if I like this show tbh, so fair warning of that, content below the cut for spoilers
[[MORE]]
Sorry, not sorry for absolutely howling when Lena decks Kara and she just blows up???
Imagine taking contacts out that easily?
Hope is a bloopy dna blob, and scarier than Alexa... maybe
Hmmm, how will she make her hurt but not be a villain about it?
Imagine playing Pokemon GO with these
Alex that was just corny not cute, but I’m trying to give you all a shot
Yeah Kara, the contacts are making politics ignorable
How hard is it to get a Pulitzer?
Oh Kara........
I don’t blame her though, I’m Miss Avoidant
I’m still not over hee having new bangs and Supergirl presumably having new bangs/fringe
Haha, oh I love Brainy and Nia
Girlfriends don’t always have to be right, but yay, they cute
That handshake thing, I throat laughed
Did she just like sell the company? Petty petty
That’s why they are mentioning villains...
Kate Mucci, she’s such a babysitter and teacher vibe.
Okay little alien girl
Yeah right Lena, you loaded
She’s a good actress though
Lena... diabolical, guilt trips
Was that not just on speaker? She’s just so obviously Supergirl
I wish this dino had feathers
Wtf, looked like that dino turned into the pod
But i guess it cut away, so it stole the pod. Imagination making things turn to life?
Wouldn’t it have just been a model or ... replica
I mean they mentioned it probably, but if it was real there should have been security, oh well
VR / AR wing next to the medical one? I get it, you just need to be in one space for the show
“CatCo isn’t the end all of what we can off each other” 👀👀👀
Lena / Katie is literally shippable with any woman
A portal just like that huh?
Everything is about clicks
Catco clickbait reboot
How are they all on a new three year contract?
I just keep hearing “we found Superman’s pie”
Who’s midnight? Seems hot, lol
“It’s great fun to watch you do that”
Hmmm, Kara standing up for her writing, I wonder how it’s gonna go tho
U can’t do it because you love her, in whatever way that is
Her glasses are gonna get knocked off or something...
Baby, did it
I’m glad they didn’t drag it out
She gonna ruin her makeup
That was genuinely good. The care the kids and specifically the women have each other is usually on point
Ambiguous.... i don’t think she would. Drop something else at 9pm, because it was very much her like admitting love for you for majority of it???!
Huh........ anyone in the audience would be like wtf
Uuuuuh J’onn
That didn’t make sense but alright, just laser eyes it?
James is free but what will he do
I don’t know who Hans Gruber is
Consent talk? Nice
Aw. Love already huh
Nerd
No that wasn’t you Brainy
They gonna kiss
Good
How would fighting prove it?
J’onn keeps not being the last martian
Supergirl signal
Gaaaaaaay
I don’t know what they’re doing, slowburn I guess
Not a villain in the sense of being decietful to save the world...
Mmmmm fine ep I guess

5x7, the first Thanksgiving ep. I missed J in this ep. His absence made sense for this ep. I love that I&N were bonding. I talk about how B is constantly risking his life & how it keeps her up at night, it was g8 to hear her talk about the impact B heroism has on her although she will always be supportive of him. N telling B the impact his disappearance has had on her growing up. B grappling with how his heroism neg affects his family in the future. B&I thinking N was upset with I about 1/2
he dec that led to B almost dying. Seeing the emotions on I face when he had flatlined for a min, she was overcome with emotions, she couldn’t function in that moment. The CR/CS/S had some funny parts to it. I wasn’t a fan of the villain. I VR scene was cute tho. The dinner scene at the loft was cute, B&I giving each other heart eyes or anticipation for later eyes. B spitting out the toast 😂. B with the look at the end when I was talking about them supposedly 😴. Sure I 😏. B you sly dog 2/2
I forgot to mention we got to see C origin story w/G. Which was decent. Seeing how O & G ‘s ship developed over time was nice. Also I again getting emo over something happening to B was sad because you know she goes thru that constantly when he’s out in the field. B speech to N was so sweet abt him being the Flash for his family, for her & I & the rest of his family & friends but especially for N & I. We all know B would do anything for & to protect I & their child would be included in that 3/3
Yes, I missed Joe too! It didn’t really feel as much of a family-centric episode without Joe (and even Cecile), but it was nice to see more of the loft, because usually holiday events happen at the West house. I do think it was a bit ridiculous that Sherloque was invited to Thanksgiving, when the team just about tolerated him at that point. Also, does Caitlin even check with Joe, Barry, and Iris about all these men she keeps inviting first to the West House and then to Barry and Iris’s loft? Jay, Julian, Dominic, and now Sherloque (although I suppose, to be fair, Cisco extended the invitation to Sherloque as well). She’ll probably invite Ramsay Russo to some event at the West house this season.
I loved the scene of Iris and Nora bonding; it was probably my favorite scene in the episode, because it was really sincere, and it allowed Iris to voice her fears. It was adorable that Iris and Nora got mani-pedis, although I would have liked to see it. Having said that, the scene they shared at the loft was really endearing, because Nora really was so grateful to have gotten the chance to get to know who her mom is and discover how awesome she is. And I completely agree; I think it’s always important when we get POV on how deeply Iris is fearful of losing Barry, because while she’s always supportive of him and his heroism, she also has to contend with losing him over and over again.
And I also really loved how we get to see how Barry is deeply affected by his own heroism. In 5x01, he was so distraught that he wasn’t even there to raise Nora, and in 5x07, he really does consider retiring, because he saves so many families, but at the risk of his family losing him. Nora dealing with her negative emotions and anger over her father’s disappearance was also a strong thread-line, especially because it was triggered again by him almost dying in her arms earlier on in the episode. I also think it’s important that she comes around and realizes how important it is that he is a hero.
I agree that Cicada I’s origin story was decent, and I liked how we see how his and Grace’s relationship develops. This is the first time that we see why Cicada I became a meta-human serial killer, and I think it was a relatively decent villain origin story. I agree that Joss was a lackluster villain, although I think that the XSWitch ship had potential.
I agree! I loved Barry’s speech to Nora, where he says that whatever he does, it is to protect Iris and Nora. It was such a sweet moment.
That scene where Barry “dies” early on in the episode was so intense, mainly because of Candice and Jessica’s acting. Nora is panicking and weeping as she tries to revive him, and Iris is silently breaking down in the cortex as she realizes what’s happening. The disbelieving panic and fear on Iris’s face and that tear that rolls down her cheek.
Lmfao @ Barry’s look when Iris said that their after-Thanksgiving tradition is sleeping. He really called her out with that look, like, “Sleeping... is that what we’re calling our mind-blowing sex now???”
