Misaki catches Saruhiko trying on a lingerie. (Yata can't pronounce that name, can he?)

Yata being like ‘why are you trying on lin—linga—line—bras and stuff?’ (Except he probably couldn’t say the word ‘bra’ either.) Imagine this as like similar to that one ask about Fushimi casually wearing lingerie, maybe he just likes wearing fancy things under his uniform because he finds it more comfortable than normal underwear. Nobody actually knows that he’s into this since he has his own room but it’s not like he’s hiding it either, Fushimi doesn’t actually care what anyone thinks about his sexy underthings. When he and Yata start dating Fushimi doesn’t think about it either, if anything he probably thinks Misaki should be happy that Fushimi is at least wearing underwear.

One day Fushimi stays over at Yata’s place, he’s started moving some of his clothes over to Yata’s apartment too since they spend so much time together. Yata expects Fushimi will sleep late since he has the day off and so Yata gets up early to make breakfast. He decides to go wake Fushimi and tell him it’s ready, and that’s how Yata walks in on Fushimi trying to decide what lingerie to wear for the day, standing around in lacy underwear, garters and a corset. Yata almost faints at the sight of it, Fushimi just looks over at him like ‘oh, Misaki.’ Yata’s barely coherent all what the fuck Saruhiko why are you wearing linge…that stuff. 

Fushimi sees how red-faced Yata is and of course he just gets the biggest grin as he’s like what’s wrong Misaki, can’t you say ‘lingerie’? Yata’s like who cares if I can say it, why are you wearing it. Fushimi moves all close, clearly seeing the way Yata’s just looking up and down his body while also very obviously trying not to look. Fushimi’s all but you can’t say it, right, and Yata stutters out that isn’t the point. Fushimi wonders if Yata wants to help him pick something out and Yata’s mouth is dry as he’s like do you always wear this stuff. Fushimi wonders if Yata likes it and Yata’s like no way why would he it’s not manly but it’s very clear that even he doesn’t believe that, still just staring at Fushimi with a bright red face. Fushimi leans in to give Yata a kiss as he’s like ‘why don’t you help me take it off then’ and Yata can only nod, brain entirely fried.

Because I watched Asteroid City last night and I cannot stop thinking about this fucking movie and tumblr is the place to be unhinged about media --

From what I've seen online, one way Asteroid City is frequently negatively misinterpreted is as a story about how there is no meaning (in life or in the film itself) but you have to keep going anyway bla bla bla. A lot of that is just people who didn't fully grasp the various layers of the film and how everything was pretty well thematically connected and relevant and not just like "ah Wes put in some random BS so that he could be like what does it mean??? It means nothing!!!"

But the other part of it, imo, is that this movie also fundamentally does not believe that there is no meaning in life. What it believes is that meaning is something you MAKE. It's something you DO. And that one of the ways we make meaning is by loving people and another way we make meaning is by telling stories.

There is no God; there is no authoritative answer-- the author is dead and, anyway, he didn't even know for sure what it was about while he was writing it-- but that doesn't mean there isn't any meaning at all. In fact it means there's an overabundance of meaning. A hundred different ways to see the same thing refracted through our own experiences.

The point of the artifice-- the impossible colours and the precise framing and the actors we recognize is to say: a story does not have to be "Realistic" to be good. A story can only ever meet you halfway. If you can allow yourself to follow it there-- to accept the artifice, to suspend your disbelief-- you can find within it depths of meaning that are only accessible through make-believe. Sometimes you need a fantastical, fictionalized story to allow you see your own life more clearly. You can't wake up if you don't fall asleep.

The characters in this movie don't have muted emotions because they're ironic and pretentious. They have muted emotions because of that old saying about how it's always sadder to see an actor trying not to cry than it is to see an actor crying. The important part isn't the emotion being shown onscreen. The important part is the emotion happening inside of YOU.

“Dude, she did that again” Lucas sighed, not stopping their game. Dustin knew him long enough to know that once Lucas starts playing, he plays to win. But he could share his attention, not like Henderson.

“What.” Dustin, like always while playing, was too absorbed in the game to have a proper conversation with anyone. What Lucas even wanted from him at that moment? One more turn and he will win this.

“Your cap. El stole it again” Lucas stated in a monotone voice, like it was nothing new. Because it wasn’t. Lately, it has been happening so often that if he wanted to count it, he would lose it. “You even stopped noticing it.”

“Yeah, yeah, don’t care. El can have it.” And Dustin, too, was used to it at this point. At the beginning it was a little weird, and he honestly didn’t get it, but now, he just thinks it’s cute. And he’s pretty sure that El didn’t realize it, but she always has that pretty, mischievous small smile on her face whenever she steals his cap. She also always stares at his face, probably waiting for his reaction.

And if it was sometimes making his blush, nobody needed to know that.

“I WON!” Lucas’ yell woke up Dustin from his thoughts. 

No way, he thought bitterly, watching red letters on the screen saying ‘you lost!’. Lately, he was thinking way too much about that girl, and this time it also made him lose a game? Shitty.

“You son of a bitch!-” Dustin groaned out loud, falling back on his bed. What a bullshit.

“Good game, Lucas” From his place on a bed, he heard El congratulating his friend.

He kept looking at the ceiling.

“Hell yeah, it was!” Lucas beamed, Dustin was sure he did, because he was always doing that after winning something, and then there was a loud clap sound meaning they did a high five.

And then El giggled.

Dustin turned around on his bed, now facing his window and pretending that his heart didn’t just skip a beat hearing El’s giggle.

He was so not ready to face these feelings. Not again.

He groaned yet again hearing Lucas’ teasing behind his back and with a conceal, don’t feel, thoughts, he stood up teasing Lucas right back.
