I'd say sometimes it's okay to cry and dwell in the past. As long as one doesn't get lost in it.
Glad Emmet has little Conductor to "conduct" him out of his sadness whenever he gets lost.
You mention how he still lives in their shared apartment... does Emmet still have their full Team? How well did the Pokemon former belonging to Ingo cope? Like I believe it's hard sometimes but I also believe having them at his side as well would also give comfort in a way. They miss their Trainer just as much and a shared burden is a lighter burden.
love this comic, showing old man Emmet a bit more vulnerable is an interesting change since he feels the happiest and most content Emmet out of all your AUs. There is still a big gaping hole in his life and there are still tears in between the smiles. And having moments where this comes up feels natural. He still deserves the zap and a comforting hug. And to eventually be reunited sometime in the future. (ngl Emmet travelling brings up the chance how both have a lot to share with each other once the time comes. I know this au doesn't focus on that at all but the image is still nice...)
apologies for all this nonsense I just love to ramble about things I love!
Wah thank you for such a thoughtful ask! Emmet still has ingo’s pokemon with him yup! Though he lives in an apartment, it’s a pretty spacious one so it’s not that tight of a fit.
After Ingo’s disappearance, his pokemon missed him just as much as Emmet, if not more I think. Many of them grew up with Ingo as their trainer so his absence was devastating to them...
Emmet knows how much they miss his brother, so rather than keep them away in their balls, he regularly let them out and battles with them, both when he was still running the double and single trains and even now as he travels across the regions! They keep each other company and comforts one another when they need it ;w;
But yeah! The old man emmet au was always meant to be a more uplifting au rather than a sad one, dealing with grief and making the most of life even despite hardships. “Moving forward without moving on” is sort of the theme of this au!

So it's been a while since I posted, but I got deep into the Pokemon fandom again and the train twins have now taken over! I just had to design some Pokemon forms for Emmet and Ingo!!
I know some people aren't as into stats and abilities, but I really wanted to sit down and hash out their strategies and movesets. They're subway masters AND ridiculously strong and skilled trainers, so I wanted to make sure that their Pokemon forms also reflected that! So if you're into that (or learning how Hisui changed their partnership) it'll be under the Read More below!
Let me know if y'all want to see more of these guys! I have even written their Pokedex entries and figured out their habits and natures! (Also, just because I thought it was funny, now Ingo is the one who's weak to Earthquake)
Ok, so the first thing I determined were general specialties! Ingo, despite his intimidating appearance and his fighting typing, is actually a better special attacker. I imagine that the twins play up the perception that other people have for them: Ingo is indimidating and Emmet is friendly, so Ingo is actually a sneaky special attacker and Emmet is a surprise physical attacker!
Their base stats reflect this, and I put their total around evolved starter range to make sure they're viable for competitive battling. As for typing, it was mostly based on various Pokemon they have on their teams, but I kinda wanted to make them partially types suited more to their counterpart, so Electric for Ingo and Steel(?) for Emmet? It's not perfect, but I HAD to make sure Ingo shared a typing with Lady Sneasler so they can be friends in Hisui. And Emmet is a Bug type because Emmet.
I agonized over their movesets and abilities for a long time, but I really wanted to show that they are a Duo, Please Do Not Seperate. So their moves and abilities help to cover each other in a double battle! Ingo has the absolute beast of a move Boomburst (both because he's loud and because it's a 140 base special attack with no downsides) so he's got Brick Break to make sure that there's no screens or shields blocking his big finishing move. Workup helps with all of his moves and since it boosts physical and special, it works to hide his little-known special attack specialty until it's too late.
I had fun with Emmet's moveset! Not only does he have Reflect to help cover his beloved brother's weaknesses, but in the case they're fighting a singles battle he's got U-Turn to effortlessly switch into his brother's big finisher move. I waffled between Reflect and another move that would reduce special defence (set up even better for Ingo's finishing move), but ultimately decided I liked Emmet shielding his big brother better.
I also want you to know that for his move Attack Order, Emmet literally commands a small battalion of Joltiks who like to hide in his coat. Verrry cute.
Of course, the codependency doesn't stop at their moves! Ingo's ability literally reduces the damage that Emmet takes when they battle together, and Emmet's Volt Absorb ability means that Ingo can always heal up his little brother if the Joltiks don't heal him first.
And now we get to the sad part. During their separation, both of them change, as now they no longer have each other to rely on in battle. Ingo changes out his Brick Break for an Aura Sphere, as when fighting solo (and sometimes multiple opponents) he doesn't have time for a lot of setup and is best on relying on his special attacking rather than trying to play the long game. His ability also changes to Defiant, to reflect his heightened need for fighting and his determination to find what he knows is missing (YES I know technically abilities can't really change but THEY'RE SPECIAL OK and it was sadder this way).
And oh boy, while Emmet can pretend he's fine as much as he wants, his changes truly show how much Ingo's loss devastated him. There's no-one left to switch with, so he trades his U-Turn for a more aggressive Lunge instead. And even worse, his new ability, Anger Point, will boost his attack once he hits half health. Which means that now he will try to get hurt and stay hurt, since now his brother can no longer heal him :(
Sorry for so much rambling, but I got suuuuper into designing these guys! The actual designs are alright, but I still think they need to be more distinctive somehow. Might go back and tweak it a bit later, but I'm happy with it for now. Why are they weird kangaroo things with hooves? Idk, but they look cool and that's what really matters~

I was thinking about @hoofpeet‘s latest stuff on Emmutt, as I do when my hands are busy and my mind is wandering.  And I just thought like
What would Emmet’s interactions with Emmutt be like once they return?  Would he be blasé like Ingo?  Would he be angry like Zingo and Chandelure?
And I feel he is savvy enough with all sorts of pokemon that once he has the real deal Ingo, he can forgive a lot of the bad behavior.  It tips over into the “here’s my horrible pet isn’t he funny” like Ingo does.
However!  I also thought that like, Emmet had a tough time while Ingo was gone.  He struggled a lot, kept going, and got his bro back in the end.  So he’s doing much better now!  Still, that doesn’t mean there aren’t bad days.  Days where the feelings of loss still spring up.
Emmutt has been trying to get back under Emmet’s skin whenever he can, but the brothers are just too alike in how they treat him.  When he notices Emmet looking run-down and sad (and probably sleep deprived, because that’s never good for one’s mental health), he sees an opportunity.  And he digs in deep, almost as bad as that first encounter, hoping to get a good reaction out of Emmet.
(They don’t realize Ingo and Zingo are nearby, the former bristling at the bad behavior, and the latter smug that Emmutt’s about to get a scolding.)
And Emmet just sort of laughs a little, and is like, “You can’t hurt me worse than Zingo did (by accident) when we first met.”  Then he wanders off to find Elesa to sleep on bc that’s what he does to feel better when he’s moody over Ingo’s disappearance.
It’s an instant triple K.O.
Emmutt is insulted to immovability at the implication that Zingo is better at being a hellion than he is.  Zingo is devastated because she didn’t mean to hurt Emmet, she really didn’t!  (He knows this and wouldn’t have said so to her face, at least not anymore.)  And Ingo is shot with the misplaced guilt over his absence hurting Emmet so much.
(Part of this was also because initially Zingo was supposed to torment Emmet, until she turned into the best pupper who tries very hard.  Still, even if it wasn’t intentional, Emmet had so many Issues because of her.)
*hand waves*  Hoofpeet does such angsty things with a touch of humor.  It’s hard to put it in writing, but it’s not meant to be bad, just a miscommunication of errors.

So! Bit of a long one but here we go!!
Emmet enemies to lovers!!
Emmet has a rival that he can’t stand! But as he continues to battle them and thusly spend time with them, feelings blossom and he starts to become friends, and then more with the rival!
However!! Before he can do more than recognize his feelings of love, the reader is eebied to Hisui!! Maybe even right in front of him!!
He’s left devastated! Desperate to see them again, because he loves them!!
And they return! After long, lonely months, they come back and finally Emmet has the chance to tell them his feelings!!
What do you think?
I tried! And I hope this turns out well ^^
Cw : hate is said a lot at the end, just in case.

Emmet always had issues properly expressing his true feelings, or putting them into words, maybe that’s why he didn’t like you.
You were Ingo’s friend and got along perfectly with the older twin. But Emmet didn’t like feeling he was being pushed aside, even if he wasn’t. So, he’d demand battles from you at every turn, you couldn’t take ten steps without the smiling twin stepping in front of you, demanding you battle him.
It was infuriating, you couldn’t visit your friend without his brother being a pain.
Worse yet you two were evenly matched.
One battle you’d win, and he’d be livid and then demand another.
The next he’d win and shove it in your face.
The only reason you didn’t say ‘screw the battle, what are your stats’ is because Ingo begged and pleaded with you, swearing his brother isn’t always like this.
You believed him, you truly did, but thought it wouldn’t be that way between you and Emmet.
Your relationship changed when Ingo got sick, he couldn’t stand without falling over, and his fever made him delirious at times. Elesa was out of the region, and Emmet didn’t have anyone else he could ask for help.
That’s when he called you from Ingo’s phone, after a quick doctor visit of course.
He knew you wouldn’t answer a random number, but he had to speak quickly before you hung up on him. He was surprised to see you already at his and Ingo’s house, arms filled with flu-friendly food and medicine. It allowed him to go to work and keep the subway running, knowing Ingo was in your care.
You’d text him throughout the day, letting him know how Ingo was doing. He’d come home to Ingo either asleep and you on the couch, or you in Ingo’s room feeding him soup. However, it left you and Emmet plenty of alone time.
You’d either make dinner or order takeout and watch tv together, finding out you two had more in common than previously thought. You’d two laugh, and share stories, to a comfortable point you’d ask him how his day at work was.
Your friendship was slow going, but after Ingo got better, he was surprised to see you two not at each other’s throats, but the want for battles never stopped, the only difference was Emmet would get excited and ask instead of demand.
Your rivalry was truly something Emmet adores and wanted more than anything. It was a nice change of pace for you two to be seen alone, laughing and joking around.
His feelings for you came as a shock to himself.
It changed him.
You noticed how he’d flip between how he used to be with you, to how he is now.
It got to the point you messaged him.
‘Hey, I know it’s late, and you just got off work, but can we talk tomorrow? At that café, we both like, preferably.’
His heart sank at that message, but he knew it was only a matter of time.
‘Sure! Time?’
‘Maybe around lunchtime?’
‘That works!’
The next day he went to that cafe like you asked, he got there early just to make sure he could practice what he was going to say.
He waited.
And waited.
And waited.
He checked his phone, noticing you were an hour late without so much as a text.
‘I am Emmet. I'm here.’
‘Are you okay?’
Still nothing, he sat there for hours, waiting for you, constantly looking out the window, hoping he’d see you running up and apologizing for being late.
He’d look up the second the bell chimes, only to be disappointed when it’s not you.
‘Everything okay?’
‘I’m sorry.’
‘Where are you?’
Every message he sent you never saw, but it says it went through. He could feel his anxiety growing worse by the second, so he called you.
It goes right to voicemail.
He can’t stand it anymore.
He stayed there for nearly five hours, and you didn’t show up.
You must hate him.
He went back home, knowing Ingo would already be back from work, but yet… it was quiet.
His life was changed in only a day, as two missing persons reports went out, one for you, and one for Ingo. What Emmet wants to tell changes The longer you’re gone.
Ingo is found many months later in strange clothes, and no memory, but his brother is here and alive. All that’s left is you. Emmet focused on work and helping his brother, being more than happy he finally came home. But the emotional part of him asks, why does Ingo get to have more stories of you, than him?
News of your return is the talk of Unova, how you appeared limp on the ground in ancient clothes and scars. He figured you’d be in the hospital for a while, given how the news spoke of your injuries. He’s already waited a year for you, what’s a few more days?
Imagine his shock when he opens the door on his day off, and you’re standing right there, covered in bandages when you should be resting.
But given your history, he isn’t even sure what to do.
“You’re…you’re back.” Despite the lack of emotion in his voice, you can hear the quiver in it.
“Emmet-“
“I waited, you know, I sat there at the café and waited. Where were you?” His vision clouds with tears.
You can’t give him an answer, cause even you don’t know who would believe you.
“I still waited, hoping you’d come back like it’s all a sick joke.”
“Em, can we please go inside? I can explain everything.” You step forward, wiping the tears that fall from his cheeks.
He doesn’t move, only leaning into your touch as he sobs.
“I hate you, I hate you so much! I hate how stubborn you are! Hate how you just think you can come back as if nothing happened! Hate how you made me worry! I hate that I love you, and you left! H-how could you?”
You pull him into a hug, letting the smiling man hold you tightly as he cries into your shoulder. You can’t stop tears of your own from soaking into his shirt, you both sob your hearts out, clinging to each other as if the other would disappear again.
“I don’t hate you…I can’t.”
“I know. I missed you so much, I was so scared.”
You both stayed there for several more minutes until you two had the strength to stand. He pulls you into his home, closing the door behind you.
“Now, let’s hear those stories!”
You chuckle softly, “Oh boy, do I have a lot.”
Despite everything.
You squeeze his hand.
This might be the start of something wonderful.

the “Ingo falls with pokemon, but with a twist” crack au
so you know the whole thing about sailors accidentally introducing a species when traveling (ie rats hide in the food stores, escape, devastate entire ecosystem of whatever unfortunate island the boat landed on)?
Ingo is so used to Emmet's joltik army climbing all over anything and everything that he doesn't even bother trying to remove them from his uniform anymore. which is all fine and dandy, keeps them out of trouble at least.
except then he trips over a brick into a portal one day and whoops!
but remember. these aren't like. normal joltiks. obviously. they're *Emmet's* joltiks. aka all of them are perfect IV hidden ability egg move cross poison spiders ready to throw down at the slightest drop of a hat, able to wrestle wins out of even pokemon considered to be their counters in unova. and suddenly they’re in this new environment that has no idea what they even are, let alone how competitive battling even works.
Hisui never stood a fuckin chance, let's be real.
except meanwhile Ingo is SO used to The Hoarde™ causing chaos that even without his memories his brain doesn't even bother to acknowledge the quickly growing yellow swarm that is steadily and methodically conquering the entirety of Hisui in the background.
the PLA protag meanwhile filling out the dex with like. 600 entries for joltik and also maybe they saw a starly that one time. they dont have to catch a bidoof to get into the survey corps they just gotta remove the bug on cyllene’s desk with a cup. which wasnt even doing anything but no you dont understand. it was sitting there. menacingly.

Caregiver Headcanons:
▫️Emmet & Ingo▪️
Tumblr media
▫️ Emmet:
▫️ Works well with older or more energetic littles. He loves running around with them and playing games (as long as they are safe!)
▫️ He'll still work with younger littles. He adores watching over them and guiding them around work with him
▫️ Kinda strict, but it's so you stay safe! Depite that, he WILL fold for puppy eyes
▫️ Tries to have a schedule set for you depending on how old you feel that day, but it often ends up going off the rails
▫️ LOVES taking you around the subways with him, especially when he's working on the battle subway
▫️ He loves seeing you watching him battle against trainers!! It gives him some extra motivation to win!
▫️ Let's you wear his coat + cap every now and again (and might even commission you a uniform of your own!!)
▫️ Always has snacks and water on hand, just in case you get hungry or thirsty!
▫️ Always leaves at least one of his Pokémon with you at all times, especially when you're feeling really little
▫️ If things are a bit too hectic or crazy in Gear Station, he'll have you stay in his office with some toys, colorbooks, and will have a Depot Agent watch over you until he's done/free
▫️ On his days off, he'll take you around Nimbasa City, taking you to a few shops here and there, and maybe a bakery at the end for a nice treat
▫️ When at home, you better be ready for cuddles! Emmett is a MAJOR cuddle bug (and his Pokémon will join in too!)
▫️ LOVES playing games, no matter the type! Pretend, dress up, hide and seek, puzzles, board games, all of them!!!
▫️ Gives you nicknames based on Pokemon, "little joktik" being among the most common.
▫️ Great at storytelling, especially when it's a nap time or bedtime story!
⚝─────────────────────⚝
▪️ Ingo:
▪️ Works best with younger littles, babies, or littles who don't have a lot of energy (I feel like he'd be a bit more nervous with high-energy littles)
▪️ He'd still work with older or more energetic littles, but he'd be a bit more watchful than he would normally be
▪️ The stricter of the brothers, but will also fold to puppy eyes
▪️ He tries his best to keep a schedule for you, like nap time, snack time, play time (if you're not at Gear Station), etc. And for the most part, he manages to stick with it!
▪️ HE WILL CARRY YOU, YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO ASK. He's more likely to just scoop you up without you having to ask or motion for it
▪️ Will give you a tour of the offices and subway tracks in Gear Station every time
▪️ Will keep you on the sidelines of all his battles, ready with healing items for afterwards! He spends a good amount of time teaching you about pokemon care when you're little
▪️ He will also let you wear his cap and coat. Sometimes you don't even need to ask, he'll just put his cap on your head!
▪️ His pockets are always full of snacks and water
▪️ Don't tell anyone, but he also keeps a little plushie on hand for you, even when big!
▪️ He tends to leave his Crustle or Chandelure with you when he's busy (and his Crustle will let you ride him!)
▪️ Even if things in the Gear Station get really bad, he'll want to keep you close. He would be devastated if you managed to get lost or separated from him in a bad time
▪️ Days off with him are normally spent at home, just relaxing
▪️ He LOVES baking with littles. He will drop everything to bake with you (even if it's pretend)
▪️ Is great at playing physical games with littles, like hide and seek, drawing games, guessing games, etc
▪️ Somehow, he's a bigger cuddle bug than Emmett! He will wrap himself around you completely somehow, and his Pokémon will be laying around you
▪️ Isn't too big on nicknames, but will call you things like "baby," "little one," "tiny," or anything you ask him to call you!
▪️ Great at reading books, especially when it comes to voices!

Ingo and Emmet have a fight.
Just because they’re close, it doesn’t mean they never fight. It’s normal. This is a big one, but it’s still normal. They leave Gear Station angry at each other and go their separate ways for the night, but the Depot Agents who witnessed the blow-up expect they’ll apologize to each other tomorrow morning, like they always do.
Instead when Ingo comes in the next morning, he’s out of uniform. That’s strange. He enters the office he shares with Emmet, and a few minutes later, he leaves again- leaving the station entirely. After a few minutes, someone thinks to check in with Boss Emmet... only to find him nearly despondent.
Ingo quit. Ingo is leaving.
No one can quite understand what happened. But one thing becomes increasingly clear over the next few days- Ingo is gone. Someone saw him at the Nimbasa City Airport, booking a ticket to Sinnoh. He doesn’t respond to calls or texts.
Emmet is understandably devastated. He knew they’d fought, but he thought they’d make up like usual... but this was apparently the final straw for Ingo. It was as if he’d had all of his anxieties thrown in his face- that he was too clingy, that he was holding Ingo back. That maybe their closeness was one-sided.
But the thing that devastates the most, even more than the awful things Ingo said to him, is when he checks their shared PC box weeks later, and realizes Ingo’s Pokemon are there, save for Chandelure. He didn’t even bring them with him, he just shoved them in the battle box. They’d been in there for weeks, and he’d never even noticed.
But life moves on. It has to. Emmet is the only Subway Boss now. There’s no more multi-line, but he keeps up both the Doubles and the Singles line. He gets back to a new normal. He learns to deal with the empty place by his side.
He never expects to see Ingo again.
He never expects to learn that the person who left that day wasn’t even Ingo.

How will the reunion between Akari and Juliana go? Or Carmine?
So this is like, two years post Indigo Disk at this point. Carmine is about 19 here, and Juliana/Florian as being 17 and Kieran as 16 here.
Carmine travels for her job, she works with researchers as a sort if body guard against wild pokemon in dangerous areas they're studying. Pretty much what she did with Briar as a student. So she is out of the region when Akari gets reverse eebied back. They're staying with Drayden in Opelucid City, since Ingo is staying there too (and Emmet he's not going anywhere). After Carmine finally finds out what's up from Drayton she demands to facetime immediately to see Kieran.
Akari vaguely remembers her, their memories are sort of coming back. They just feel kind of seperared from them. Staring at the face of god kind of scrambles your brain.
So they initially reunite over facetime but it's not exactly a coherant conversation on Carmine's end. She's too busy bawling so Drayton winds up having to have a private conversation with her about the situation. After that she drops everything calls her grandparents to tell them whats up and then THAT'S it's own situation becauase poor grandma thought she was having a stroke when they heard the news.
When she gets back to Unova and finally sees Kieran in person she's bawling again and appologizing to them like Drayton did so Akari is finally like why does everyone keep apologizing to me? I dont get it. So then she's even more upset lol. But Akari really matured in Hisui and does kind of remember a big sister so there super happy someone they're related to actually wants them. (Akari went through a phase where their memories of indigo disk era had them thinking they were a terrible person and everyone back home was better off without them)
She also has a few of Kieran's pokemon on her like Furret and Hydrapple and they are very emotional seeing Kieran again. It takes her a few days because she's so overwhelmed but she eventually reaches out to Briar and the Protagonist to let them know Kieran's alive.
Im just gonna use Juliana in this to make it easier, but Juliana is shook. Like she's moved on with her life, mourned Kieran, still has nightmares about the incident. Kieran is the ghost that haunts her. So she's beside herself too and Carmine gives her time. She tells her friends who like, all vaguely know Kieran through osmosis since the whole thing kind of broke her, and they help her work through what she's feeling. Same with her mom, her mom keeps a picture of Kieran in their house even though she never knew them. But like the fact that this kid died and her own kid almost did too is pretty devastating to think about.
So Juliana facetimes Carmine and Carmine shows her Kieran (they don't talk yet, the whole situation is a lot for these two) and she starts crying too lol. She's like "do you think he'd want to talk to me?" And carmine is like "well, they've changed a lot but its more like. Theyre back to their old self just, more sure seeming? Also i honestly dont know if they remember you"
So its a whole shitshow essentially. Just a bunch of people navigating a difficult situation. Akari is kind of facinated by Juliana like "wowzers i was friends with someone so cool? I cant believe i was so mean to her i should appologize" and theyre like kieran i think sort of dying kind of negates that you're fine.
Then comes the big bomb that Akari has a SMART PHONE. That is the biggest change of all. Cannot believe you went to the past and came back with knowledge of memes.
Eventually the two talk and they're like pen pals for a while (through texting) while Kieran is healing and doing rehab for some injuries in Opelucid. Carmine is staying in an air bnb there to help out. Eventually Juliana gets the courage to come visit and when they meet she's half crying in joy half having a bi panic because Akari is very pretty.
The end

Jealousy
a holiday gift for @wardenswateringhole !! thank you for playing minecraft with me that one time
🔥
Emmet was not a jealous person. Nope. He was proud of who he was! He was a Subway Boss, twin of Ingo, his fellow Subway Boss, son of Arthur, who worked at the Gear Station before he was even born! He was close to his family, loved by his family, and he cherished his family right back.
So why was the fact that one of his depot agents was getting close to his family bothering him so much?
What was there to be jealous of, even? Sure, Arson was around his dad a lot. The two were dating, for Arceus’ sake! So it was normal for them to be spending a lot of time together. But during the weekend he and Ingo were meant to visit Arthur?? How could his dad want to split his time with his own kids with Arson?? Horrible!
Not that Emmet said anything. He could see how happy the two were together, even if their affections were sickeningly cute. Emmet wanted to gag at them sometimes, but Ingo kicked  him if he so much as wrinkled his nose around them.
And speaking of Ingo! His own brother was betraying him! He went and befriended the invader of the family!
Emmet nearly screeched when he discovered the pair having lunch together in the twins’ private office. Arson merely waved, friendly enough, while Ingo beckoned him over, something about Arson having a hilarious tale about Whimsy, his Whimsicott, getting into mischief once again.
Emmet, sat stiff as a board, listened, and made sure to one-up the tale with some hilarious tales of his own Pokémon.
He needed to make a plan. He would not be outshone in his own family! Arson was funny, sure, and not a bad person to hang out with (not that Emmet would ever admit he didn’t mind the times the two had rode in the empty train cars together, mindless chatter exchanged between them), but he was overstepping! He was making everyone like him more than Emmet!!
And that would not stand!
So Emmet hatched his ingenious plan. If Arson wanted to be friends with Ingo, Emmet would show him how much better he was as a friend. Emmet would show Arson he was the best person to be friends with! And then he would get most all of Ingo’s attention back! Arthur’s too! It was perfect!
So Emmet made frighteningly intense efforts to befriend Arson further. He practically followed the agent around the Gear Station, chatting with him about everything his mind could think of. He even endured the heavy stench of coconut that playing with Whimsy would induce. He had lunch with Arson, rode the trains with him, demanded battles every day!
And none of it worked.
To Emmet’s devastation, he found that he only liked Arson more after all his efforts. Emmet found himself genuinely wanting to spend time with the man, and it was too much to bear.
“Hey.” A heavy hand rested on Emmet’s shoulders. He didn’t have to look up from his hands to know it was Arson standing over him. The smell of coconut gave it away almost immediately.  “You okay?”
Emmet just grumbled into his palms.
A hum followed, then a gentle thump to the bench space next to him.
“You know, Ingo told me a funny thing earlier.” Arson paused, then nudged Emmet with his shoulder. “He said you were jealous of me.”
Emmet’s head snapped up so fast he felt something pop. “He said what?”
Arson just laughed, shaking his head. “You’re a funny guy, Em. But kinda dumb too.” Before Emmet could breathe fire at him, Arson continued, glancing off at where a small crowd of people were gathering to board the upcoming train. “Ingo likes me, and your dad does too-”
“Too much.” Emmet huffed, not that Arson paid him any mind.
“-but that doesn’t mean I’m replacing you.” Arson nudged their shoulders again, an easy smile on his face. “Come on, as if I could do that. You’re too memorable to be replaced.”
Emmet could only shift in his seat. His lips pressed into a thin line, hardly a smile. He toed the floor, hands flexing, then huffed again. Arson wasn’t the bad guy here, and Emmet probably offended him for thinking poorly of him. So he swallowed his pride and apologized.
“I am sorry.”
“No worries.” Arson said, patting his back. “It’s nice of ya to want to be friends too, despite your raging jealousy.”
“Raging!?” Emmet sputtered. Arson laughed again, taking the halfhearted punches Emmet slammed into his arm. The feel of muscles beneath his knuckles only exasperated his anger and jealousy both. “I will destroy you. I am going to throw you off the Gear Station roof.”
He wouldn’t. As much as he wanted to, he knew he would miss Arson too much. But that didn’t mean he couldn’t get his punches in, even if it meant getting a lecture from Ingo later.
Bastard deserved it.

Ingo gets home and it's great but something seems to be bothering him until someone asks and he blurts out "WAS I HOMOPHOBIC??" And they have to sit him down and tell him he's Bi. When asked where he got the idea from he quotes the homophobic dog meme.
IMAGINE . Ingo going thru his old text exchanges of he and Elesa are teasing Emmet about very obviously having a dumb gay crush on Piers or smthn where they're jokingly pretending to be homophobic . And Ingo [having no memory of the concept of homophobia as an ironic meme]'s actually fucking DEVASTATED. Stumbles into Emmet's room crying to apologize to him for being homophobic and Emmet laughs so hard he passes out

Okay so you guys seemed to enjoy my post about my Yamask!Ingo AU, so I wanted to expand upon and explain this AU in a bit more detail, so here we go. Also this is gonna be VERY long so be prepared.
Essentially this takes place sometime after Akari’s battle against Volo and Giratina, Hisui is saved and while the space-time rifts are still occurring, they’ve been getting less and less frequent. Since stakes have greatly lowered, Akari decides to use her spare time to help Ingo get his memories back. This goes on for a few months, and by that point Ingo has regained several of his key memories, such as being from future Unova, his job as the Subway Boss, and most recently: Emmet. Obviously as Ingo regains more and more of his memories, the more he begins to feel out-of-place here in Hisui, and how much he wants to return home. Akari knows this and starts trying everything in her power to send him to his original time period.
One day, as Ingo, Akari, and Lady Sneasler are investigating one of the rifts on a mountain to find out how to send him home, the distortion from the rift triggers an avalanche. Lady Sneasler manages to save Akari from the oncoming snow, but Ingo gets caught in the crossfire, and ends up being killed as a result of his injuries. Akari is devastated as a result, not just from the loss of her friend, but knowing he would die never having gotten home. This leads her to Spear Pillar, where she makes a prayer to Arceus that there must be SOME way for him to go home. Thankfully, as Arceus’s champion, they listened, and tells Akari that they can send him home alive, just not in a human form. Arceus then turns Ingo’s dormant soul into a yamask, and sends him back to present-day Unova.
Meanwhile, Emmet has been barely holding on in his brother’s absence. The rifts that connect Hisui and the present era are parallel, so as Ingo has spent a year-and-a-half in Hisui, the same amount of time has passed in Unova. Emmet had become incredibly depressed during this period, although things have improved a bit, he’s still struggling to accept his dear brother may be gone forever. One day, he has a strange dream that night, where he’s following Ingo down a dark tunnel, and when Ingo turns to face him, he’s wearing a silver mask of his face, and Emmet wakes up (Emmet doesn’t realise that this is a message from Arceus about Ingo’s whereabouts and condition).
The next day Emmet heads out to work and operate the Battle Subway for the day (The subway system runs 24/7, but the Battle Subway specifically is only open during the day). Everything goes normal for the day until right before he decides to head home, he gets in a report from the Gear Station workers about a wild Pokémon in the underground tunnels, so Emmet goes to deal with the issue. After some exploration he finds what the worker had reported about: A harmless yamask, nothing too hard or serious, right? Well what Emmet has not realised yet is that yamask is, in fact, Ingo, who has spent the last 24 hours wandering the tunnels while also trying to process realising-your-own-death-and-becoming-a-Pokémon-as-well.
So obviously in that moment Ingo realises he’s literally now facing his long-lost brother, who has not realised who the latter is quite yet, and goes NUTS. So Emmet is now confused as this yamask starts frantically pointing at its mask and at him, and he doesn’t realise what’s happening until he takes a closer look at the mask and realises what’s exactly is going on: This yamask is actually his missing brother. Emmet and Ingo start breaking down into happy tears as the two are FINALLY reunited once more, Emmet then scoops up Ingo into his arms and runs home to process everything that’s happening.
After a bit the realisation kicks into Emmet that…well…Ingo is a GHOST NOW. Que Emmet bombarding Ingo with questions about what the fuck happened to him, while Ingo can only reply by writing everything out because he can’t talk now. While Emmet isn’t quite sure of what he was expecting, he probably wasn’t ready to see Ingo explain this entire freaking SAGA involving time-travel, amnesia, isekai, actual GODS and more.
Yeah thats gonna be really fun to tell their therapist. Their conversations from then on were basically like:
Ingo, writing down on a notepad: So then as we threw the Origin Ball at them, there was this giant explosion on light…aaannnddd then Spear Pillar was destroyed, trust me, it was INSANE. It worked though and we were mostly unharmed.
Emmet: What?! You saw the destruction of Spear Pillar, this just keeps getting even crazier, go on!
Elesa, who has been here for the last 20 minutes after getting a call from a Gear Station worker asking to check in on Emmet listening to all of this shit:
Tumblr media
That’s it for now, I’ll continue this in another post, but this is mostly the initial setup for what’s happening.

Finished watching trigun anime today, they killed off my favorite character in the last 5 episodes so now I'm sad
May I have a quick summary of your gunsmoke au so far
sure! i was devastated first time i watched the show and that happened. and it hurts every time i rewatch it as well.
fortunately i will not be killing off any characters <3
this is the second and shortened time i wrote this and it's STILL Quite A Bit Long. anyway here's a read more
emmet and ingo are a pair of twins that survived the SEEDS ships crash after an unexpected and massive solar flare basically messes with all of the navigation systems (and like. everything else.)
emmet is a bit disillusioned with humanity but he's not like. evil and murdery like knives. but he still doesn't like being around humans that much. ingo is Not like that.
eventually ingo disappears, emmet is distraught.
a strange man wakes up in the distant settlement of Pearl, and is given the name Nobori.
after a while nobori ends up wandering the planet for. decades. emmet starts hearing rumors about nobori and has a very tiny hope. but it's enough to get him to actually try searching for ingo again. since he's actually out and doing stuff he somehow (and unwillingly--) picks up a small group of stragglers that follow him around for some reason. he's not particularly a fan of this but they're helpful so he deals.
it all culminates to nobori and emmet meeting each other in the city of July. all nobori can remember of July is flashes of confusion and panic and fear and a horrible horrible light.
and emmet is. he's. confused and upset. his brother blasted his legs off-- did he really hate emmet That Much? so as much as emmet wants to find him and reunite. that ended real bad last time. so he hides himself away again and intentionally does Not try to seek out Ing-Nobori.
nobori wakes up confused once again, this time sans an arm. also a bounty on his head for destroying one of the biggest cities on the planet. wonder what that's all about ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
eventually through events emmet's weird little gang ends up taking care of this little girl-- dawn. they're not the best parents and she grows up to be self reliant far earlier than she should have.
Emmet still doesn't want anything to do with his brother (LIE) but once Dawn is old enough he sends her off to find Nobori and keep tabs on him. but like. don't tell emmet about anything unless it is significantly life threatening.
meanwhile two insurance girls, Elesa and Skyla, have been ordered to stick around the walking calamity, Nobori the Eclipse, to try and mitigate any damages that may occur because of him. shenanigans and fun times.
(-- at some point, not sure where exactly to first bring her in, but the gang ends up crossing paths with Zisu. ex-sheriff turned bounty hunter/hired gun, after a series of moral disagreements with the mayor of her old town led to her being kicked out. zisu isn't dumb enough to go seek out the bounty for nobori but she's also not dumb enough to take the opportunity that's presented to her hhdkshdjdjhf. but through a series of events she and nobori are forced to work Together and afterwards she decides. nah i actually like this guy he's neat :> and kinda sticks around, not necessarily always traveling with the squad but they do cross paths a lot)
and so as nobori and elesa and skyla are in a bus crossing the desert, they find some kid passed out in the middle of nowhere. dawn ends up sticking around full-time. you know for no reason in particular or anything. (and nobori cannot help but adore this weird little girl. feels oddly protective over her. this will not develop into parental feelings at all (lie))
and thus, the gang has grown and so has the propensity to chaos and shenanigans.
the "current" day story, what u see in the anime and manga, is a lot more vague than the rest of the backstory, but there's a lot of nobori running from his decades-due existential crisis, weird stuff starts happening, friend and family bonding. even More weird stuff. nobori starts getting the barest flashes of memory-- both of July and also Before. and eventually eventually eventually, emmet and nobori finally reunite and no one gets their legs blasted off.
(emmet learning that his brother has amnesia like. oh. oh . i could have avoided so much stuff if i thought of that)
OKAY. PHEW. GOT THAT ALL OUT.
basically albeit Quite Vaguely;
Nobori/Ingo takes vash's role
Emmet takes knives's role
Elesa and Skyla take Meryl and Milly's roles, respectively
Dawn and Zisu both take/share wolfwood's role, in different aspects of said role
- various other npcs such as irida and kamado and the wardens show up as assorted side characters throughout the entire thing. for example, irida is one of the kids that nobori knew way WAY back when. kamado is the mayor of the town zisu came from. rei is actually the one that made nobori's prosthetic arm, from technology he'd scavenged from a seeds ship. (it's not too advanced and doesn't have a gun in it like vash's, though). akari is rei's sibling and Dawn's grandma. drayden is also mayor of a town (specific idea there that we don't have time to get into fhdkbdjsd). volo is Some Guy who tries to sell them stuff that shows up occasionally but doesn't have plot relevance. etc etc etc
- the gung ho guns obviously,, aren't really a thing. the characters certainly exist SOMEWHERE but they're Different. and not the gung ho guns.
- bringing in backstory and minor plot aspects of the manga, but the plot is something more similar to the anime. out of 100 percent personal preference, i just liked the anime's plot better.
- yes this means tessla did exist. that was such an integral part to their backstory I'm sad it didn't get included in the anime. for people who don't know the manga. well. i do plan on making something about that eventually, so. >:)

Between Them, There Are Doors
Another incomplete one, this time because I convinced myself midway through that I wasn’t doing it justice and that the only way to write it properly was to go far more in-depth than what I was doing. It’s a bit of a pity, because I really like the idea of ‘Gear Station as a liminal space’, but who knows, maybe I’ll come back around to it.
---
Without a trace of doubt, the first of the wormholes had been the most devastating-- even without accounting for what it had cost Emmet, personally.
An attack on Gear Station would be [devastating] regardless of the source, and they had done their utmost to ensure safety within. When Team Plasma had reared their heads, of course they’d tried for a [???] opening move, and it was only due to the dutiful staff and aid of the trainers in attendance-- whether they be subway trainers or challengers-- that this initial, overwhelming attack had been repelled.
Fighting back a tear in time and space was something all together more impossible.
Ingo had bought them time, though, doing his best to ward bystanders away from the active hazard, instructing each of his team members near simultaneously to keep everyone safe in such a massive thoroughfare. Emmet, meanwhile, had been busy with the evacuation efforts-- coordinating the crowds in orderly fashion whilst also juggling the timetables. Inbound lines couldn’t be allowed to let their passengers disembark into [danger], and the order in which to contact them and reroute was key.
Emmet hadn’t actually been present when this hitherto-unknown threat flared to life and stole his brother away. It wouldn’t have changed anything if he had, but he’d never quite been able to get past that fact.
That wasn’t to say he hadn’t seen it happen, though. He’d watched the footage back so many times that he sometimes saw it in his sleep; not even front and center, but in the otherwise foggy details of dreams-- on a passenger’s Xtransceiver or playing out in the reflection of a window.
As terrible as the [footage] was, it was also something of a saving grace.
There was no keeping such a [massive] supernatural disaster quiet, and neither had Emmet particularly wanted to do that. He wanted to understand, both for all that it might help his own agenda and in keeping the public safe, should the worst happen and such a phenomena reoccur. While he hadn’t known who to contact, it hadn’t mattered; Interpol had found him.
The agent he’d spoken with had been relatively certain that the Ultra Wormholes themselves were… if not harmless, not a deadly threat. Even then, with his attention being pulled in a dozen different directions, Emmet had realized that he wasn’t being given the whole story-- but it had been enough to know that, wherever or whenever he was, Ingo was still alive, could still be reached. He’d been more than happy to comply with the investigation, completely willing to allow whatever readings and offer a copy of that day’s security feed. He hadn’t realized the in he’d given himself at the time, favoring, instead, the fact that Interpol would assist him in turn.
If the fallout hadn’t been overwhelming enough, there was also abrupt beginning and end to the missing persons case. Part of Interpol’s [support] had been the fact that they were an international organization; under normal circumstances, even a large-scale search might never [broach?] the borders of its region. Maybe, in high profile cases, news could make its way to the neighboring provinces, or if the [missing] individual had ties to another region there might be a token attempt abroad, but both exceptions were rare.
Those lost to time and space-- fallers, they were called-- could appear anywhere in the world, even years out. Unless one was incredibly lucky, a localized effort would do very little, meaning Interpol’s involvement was the best chance of actually finding Ingo.
And… to their credit, it had seen success.
That said, nobody had expected the overwhelming response of ‘you mean that weird Warden we have to learn about in trainers’ school?’ from across Sinnoh.
It was baffling, even to the individuals Emmet had been working with. There were cases of people being thrown across the world or hurtled forward in time, but never backwards. The revelation came as something of a mixed blessing; it was a definite arrival point, albeit one far from their [reach], all but eliminating the element of mystery. They knew the when and where, but as things currently stood, could do nothing to access it.
There were exactly two factors that kept Emmet from taking matters into his own hands, from storming the very region that had [solved the mystery] and taking on Dialga itself.
The first was that there was surviving record of the Warden Ingo. While aspiring trainers learned the name in regards to the gym challenge they [aspired] to undertake, he was less known for the [mystery] surrounding his tenure: he’d arrived in Hisui under impossible circumstances, and years later had vanished just as abruptly. The former was undoubtedly caused by the Ultra Wormhole, so was it so far fetched to think the latter might be, as well?
Second was the fact that, while Interpol lacked the resources to [intervene] yet, this entire disaster had the distinction of throwing a great deal of information directly into their laps. Technology was incredible, always advancing, finding new, previously unthought ways to connect people. Perhaps waiting and assisting wasn’t so dramatic as forcing the [hand] of the Temporal Pokemon itself, but it was… kinder. Safer for everyone involved, regardless of where in time they fell.
It was just as well that Emmet had stayed his hand. Before even a month had passed, another Ultra Wormhole formed in the station.
While still difficult to weather, there had been a precedent this time. They hadn’t been dealing with a complete unknown, and the best ways to keep the public safe had been fresh in mind; the efforts were enough to avoid any undue tragedy, even when the small-scale disaster veered harshly off the projected track.
Nobody had been lost, but… something had been found, to put it loosely.
A Pokemon they’d thought, in the moment, and they hadn’t been entirely wrong. It attacked like a Pokemon and took a blow like a Pokemon-- its delicate antennae suggested it was bug-adjacent, and it had responded to Archeops’s [rock type attack] like any other Pokemon weathering a super effective hit-- but any attempt at containing it failed.
As it turned out, one couldn’t fight a tear in time and space, but they could certainly fight something into one.
[interpol divulges Ultra Beast info]
The wormholes didn’t stop after that. It was hardly constant, but there was nothing that could keep them from forming. There was a suggestion, at one point, that Gear Station be sidelined, that there should be an effort to convert one of the non-central stations into the main hub-- and while it stung, Emmet couldn’t say he was wholly against the idea. Ultimately, it came to nothing. None of the other subway stations were equipped to handle the traffic the [central] one did, and once protocols were put into place to deal with the Ultra Wormholes, it… somehow became another factor of public transportation. Through the turnstiles, [instruction], avoid the tear in the fabric of reality, and your platform will be on the left.
In time, Emmet decided he was best suited to remaining at the ground zero that Gear Station had become, where he could assist directly whenever such a problem arose. The process of selecting and then hiring the trainers who would succeed the first Subway Bosses was a bittersweet one, but infinitely easier than the specter of [hiring] a single replacement that he would then be expected to work with.
It also gave him the time he needed to deal with Interpol.
Now that Gear Station was a hotbed of interdimensional activity, it was infinitely more valuable to researchers than it had been in the first place. Emmet himself refused to become part of the agency, preferring the freedom to ensure [safety] in his [station],
[...]
The sensor on platform 6 went off. While Emmet didn’t need to afford the monitor even a glance to know it would be all but abandoned at this hour, he still checked, just to be thorough.  As expected, it was completely deserted; the last train to Anville had departed hours prior and any stragglers had long since seen themselves out.
If there was no one to keep back, it would be a one man job. At best, it was a hazard to watch over for a few minutes before it dissipated-- at worst, a sorely needed battle to cap off the day. Either one was better than sitting idle in the office, and he shrugged on his coat before departing for the soon-to-be-affected platform.
The predicted wormhole sparked to life a mere thirty seconds after he arrived on the scene, and as it established itself, he decided this was a fortunate circumstance. All of its predecessors had manifested vertically at floor level, and this one was angled down, roughly eight feet in the air. He didn’t know what it meant, if anything, but it was a plus that he would be able to observe without concern for any civilians.
For several minutes, it hung in the air, inert. Emmet was just beginning to wonder if it would remain in that state until it disappeared when it finally did light up, section by section. In rapid succession-- if not simultaneously-- the interdimensional countdown hit zero, the mouth of the [wormhole?] crackled with electricity, there was a heavy thud, and the tear immediately resealed itself.
Blinking the spots from his eyes, Emmet’s attention strayed from the [?] to the site of impact.
Only then did he draw nearer, kneeling next to the dark shape that the wormhole had spat out. One hand idled just shy of making contact.
Beneath it, there was a heavy exhalation. Irritated? Frustrated?
...scared?
Not hurt-- not right this moment, anyway. That was good. That was-- fantastic.
He laid his hand down on what he was reasonably sure was a shoulder-- on what was a shoulder on him, at least-- and was rewarded with a startled look upward. Without quite meaning to, he felt his smile shift; not his widest or most dramatic, but something small and genuine.
Ingo didn’t fight it as Emmet helped him up, too busy watching with wide, searching eyes. For all that Emmet knew the effects Ultra Wormholes wreaked, he would be hard pressed to call that expression uncomprehending; confused, yes-- maybe even disbelieving-- but there was a measure of [comprehension] mixed in that he never could have anticipated.
In so many other ways, Ingo had already proven to be the outlier among fallers. So then maybe…?
Slowly, he raised a hand up. Settled it along the edge of Emmet’s jaw. Whether by accident or design, a thumb brushed the corner of his mouth. When Emmet mirrored the gesture, Ingo’s expression flickered, lips somehow [flickering] up into the very same smile.
It was a very, very long time before either of them moved from that spot.

{Halloween is in two weeks and E-So has set some candy bowls out for the customers, Emmet takes some then a little girl comes after him; she is taking her time selecting when this woman and her snotty brat see what’s up and make a Combee line for the candy bowls, E-S/o is keeping an eye on them when The middle-aged woman proceeds to grab the fuller of the two bowls dump it into her purse and gives the shocked little girl a smug grin.]
Woman: Oh, free candy? My children will love these.
E-S/o: Ma’am. You can’t grab the whole bowl; put those back right now, please.
Woman: Why should I? My children are much more deserving of treats then the little fatty over there.
[The little girl looks devastated at the empty bowl, the girl’s parents begin arguing with the woman, E-S/o tries to mediate the situation, while this is happening Emmet comes back and gives the little girl his candy and says loud enough for the woman to hear.]
Emmet: Here you go. Ignore what that lady said, okay? The witch just forgot she’s not supposed to come out until Halloween.
[The little girl laughed and went to rejoin her parents, while the woman angrily glared at Emmet and stomped out of the coffee-shop, Later Emmet told E-S/o that the witch tried to complain to Ingo about him. He promptly told her to get the h*** out of his train station.]
