If her and Gyarados do ever have an egg, Zoro will have a fight to keep Sanji from turning Gyarados into sushi. For now, both are entirely unaware their Pokemon are mated.

Actually imagine one day she finally DOES, Sanji coming across her curled around an egg and losing his ever-loving-shit - immediately calls a crew meeting to find out who DEFLOWERED HIS PRECIOUS BABY GIRL, demanding to see every water type in her egg group (which lbr they wouldn't keep up with that so that would then devolve into a debate over egg grouping and pokemon breeding all while sanji is fuming). of course, except for zoro, everyone else knows who the father but is staying quiet either 1) for the lulz 2) to keep damages down or 3) isnt paying attention (aka luffy). this goes on for a while when suddenly

once things calm down it turns into a debate on who takes ownership of the magikarp, zoro n sanji feuding like bitter exes divorced thrice over determining custody time for lil timmy

(they end up leaving it in Momo's care as symbol of friendship - he takes very good care of them)

Luffy never just catches Pokemon. He's the Ash, his team is entirely composed of Pokemon that are like ‘his vibes are immaculate’ and join him. There are numerous Pokemon he considers ‘his’ or part of his crew strewn out across the seas, but he never caught them and they stayed behind for one reason or another.

For a good portion of his travels, he didn’t even actually catch them with Pokeballs. He only did so after Marineford, because having them in Pokeballs would've made things easier and safer for them. Still doesn't keep them put away often.

Sanji and Nami are scared of Bug Types, which made getting along with Zoro's Scythor and Usopp's Spinarak difficult at first. They got used to Sythor easier thanks to his less buggy nature, but Spinarak took time. This was not helped by Spinarak constantly trying to get chummy with them only to accidentally scare them.

One incident involved him pulling a Charlotte's Web in the gally, writing a compliment to Sanji in his web (Usopp taught him how to read and write because why not - bored island kids do whatever). Unfortunately, Sanji's horrified screams could probably be heard in Skypiea. Usopp spent hours cleaning all the webbing up and Sanji smoked about three packs that day.

They do eat Pokemon but it's less common compared to regular animals. There are debates that Pokemon just tend to not taste very good regardless of cooking skills, which lends itself to the idea that their powers are somehow connected to the ever nasty Devil Fruit.

Y'know that gag from Pokemon where Brock's own Pokemon would knock him around when he goes girl-crazy? Ya, that but Sanji. His team absolutely takes him down a peg when he gets too fuck-boy.

It's usually his Blaziken, who will just straight up knock him out and carry him away if need be

The only one who doesn't is Milotic and that's because Sanji is her baby just as much as she is his and she wuvs him too much. Spoils him, really

Usopp gets Robin one of those baby slings for her Houndour as a joke but they love it (she puts on matching sunglasses too so he can travel in style)

it's to the point that Chopper gets a little jealous so they have to get him one too

Usopp's Octillary is still a lil shit no matter how much he respects Usopp, so it's not uncommon for her to cover whoever happens to be nearby in either ink or water

her favorite victim is Sanji - she never did forgive him calling her scrawny (even tho it meant they wouldn't eat her)

All of Franky's Pokemon have a star painted or carved somewhere on their body. They like posing with him!

Franky does want a Blastoisite but they haven't had much luck finding one

Brook's Chatot picks up many, many phrases…. unfortunately he, much like Brook, favors the one asking to see panties - the only upside is that he asks everyone regardless of gender

Chatot is not allowed to talk to strangers for totally unrelated reasons

I don't care how you guys feel about Charlotte, if there's one thing I'm glad S2 (in it's prime) explored - it was generational merfolk magic.

(Admitting Charlotte truther here) I find it fascinating exploring Mako Island and the generations of mermaids over the years for many reasons. Let's be honest, there's plenty of H2O fanfiction on Fanfiction.Net that tried exploring the H2O gang growing up and having powers to various degrees. Some focus on adulthood and drag it out while others get to the marriage and children phase a bit too quickly, but a few stand out just right (and by right, I mean "I could read this as if I'm watching it on TV"). But what I gather trying to read is Next Generation fics. Some writers opt to say the girls had normal children and don't tell them the Secret - which leads to history repeating and the daughters and/or sons finding their way onto Mako and going through the Metamorphosis. Others say the children are born with their powers, therefore automatically in on the Secret. And I think I recall a fic that ventured into the girls (or maybe just Cleo) becoming grandmothers themselves.

(FYI: It's a lot more telling how long ago a fanfic was written if the mermen in them have orangey-gold tails or any other colors pre-Mako Mermaids.)

Overall, I do appreciate those stories, but that doesn't diminish my preference for the past mermaids or what they could've/would've done if taking the present canon into account. I wanna explore how being mermaids in the 50s had worked out, if Gracie's choice was what split the group up, or if it was the tip of the iceberg. But mostly, I wanna know why Gracie was the only one to have a family and the implications of her ties to Mako after no longer being a mermaid. Did Gracie leave and never look back? Could Annette have been an 80s mermaid if she had returned? And regardless of how she came in, was Charlotte being drawn to Mako and becoming a mermaid really shocking?

Or what about Julia? The only reason we found out she died was because her locket sold at an estate sale and ended up at a jewelry shop. But did that have to necessarily mean she was alone or could it be implied she did have family and they sold her stuff without realizing the significance of the locket? What if someone did try to look for it and couldn't track it down? Maybe, if not directly a grandchild, but a grand-niece or nephew?

So in that hypothesis, out of the 4 known members of the 50s group, Gracie and Julia had more reasons to have had families in their lives while Louise (an elderly widow) and Max (a recluse hermit) didn't.

I understand we got used to the iconic OG girls, but there are too many holes and plots to be left unexplored.

((Before I end on this note, let me send this off that next-generation tropes don't necessarily have to apply to children and grandchildren. I'll fan the flame that Kim Sertori could have received the torch and become a mermaid. Cleo and co. were off the college and with the moon pool supposedly damaged, it wouldn't be like more mermaid hijinx could occur...that they'd be aware of. And what if Taryn Marler (Julia in S2 and Sophie in S3) had been brought on as a twenty-something woman who endured Metamorphosis, unlike the teenagers before her? Her character - Rachel Samuels from Blue Water High S2, free to watch on YouTube - had a much more preferable persona for H2O, so why not combine them into someone fleshed out? Instead of the main characters having children or having them help out the next random group of teenaged Merfolk - why not focus on a narrative of a mermaid's siblings finally stepping into her shoes and a woman entering her adult years as a mermaid?))

Finding Love Katakuri x Reader Part 39

It seemed that the sea was getting rough. Dark clouds hovered over their heads and a cold wind blew into their faces, which let them shiver uncomfortable. Only one man was standing against the weather like it was nothing. His serious gaze was directed to the distance and let soldiers around him shiver even more.

It was a marine ship. And it was coming closer by each second. Growling pissed the tall sweet General turned back to get to his wife. Looking down to her stressed form, he knew exactly what was bothering her.

She was scared.

Not for her life. Katakuri knew her well enough that this stubborn little princess was caring less about her well being. She was scared that something would happen to her parents, her home and kingdom, which he had to admit, was quite charming in his own way.

"(Y/N), Katakuri. We hadn't much time to repair the ship. It's working, but still there is lots of damage. Be careful on your way.", her father explained, while hugging his daughter, who was already in tears. Brushing her cheeks he kissed her forehead lovingly. Her mother hugged her dearly and kissed her too. It was a heartbreaking moment. No one knew exactly what was going to happen, sure something troublesome, nevertheless nobody could do anything against it.

"Don't cry. Someday I am sure we could see each other again. Till then make me proud.", she cupped the young girl's cheeks in her hands and gave her beautiful face a saddened look.

"And don't forget (Y/N). Whatever you hear from our kingdom. The news are just lies to protect you. We will pretend that we are enemies of your husband. Pretend that we wanted that execution of Katakuri too. Pretend that we are looking for you to get you back to your senses and back to us. That we are disappointed of your actions. All lies to cover your leaving. ", she spoke calmly and hugged her again.

The last packages of food were placed into the submerge ship. Soldiers were gathering together to push it into the sea, which wasn't an easy task, because of its immense form. A shadow hovered over them and the next moment the ship was pushed easily into water by a strong hand. Looking up they were met with the Charlotte pirate who let them sweat uncontrollably only by his serious expression. (Y/N) took a deep breath and got back to her husband's side. She shivered, but didn't felt cold. Her throat felt dry, but she wasn't thirsty. Her whole body was reacting of the final leaving from her beloved home. (Y/N) thought about her mother's words.

Someday..

It was the first lie of the many which soon would follow. She thought that the lies would stop after getting out of the marineford,but it seemed they would follow her for a lifetime now. In their predictment she was sure that her parents wouldn't be able to leave the island ever again without being watched and for herself it meant the same. (Y/N) felt her heart breaking. But it was for the best. For her and their safety.

Putting on her best smile, she bowed respectfully before everyone and thanked them dearly for everything they did for her and Katakuri. Her gesture alone let a wave of tears and shouts of despair wash over the soldiers and her parents. Her body felt like it was frozen in the spot. Moving her feet she bite her lip bitterly and got inside the submerge ship to start their travel. For Katakuri it was easier to leave, to finally move on and keep her protected, but still he felt bad of seeing his wife's desperate look. He took the lead and started the ship, while (Y/N) sat at the back to watch his quick moves silently. Slowly the vehicle moved under water and deep into the blue ocean to be unnoticed by anyone around. Compared to the former travels, this one was much easier and without any complications.

If they could hide perfectly.

One week and they would reach whole cake chateau. One week and (Y/N) was back at her old life as Katakuri's wife. In a way it felt so unreal after everything had happened.

Could everything be like before?

Would Big mom punish her of her actions?

And what about Katakuri?

He didn't bring a treasure. On top he was arrested by the enemy. So many questions rushed through her mind that she didn't notice the second call of her name. Looking back Katakuri found his wife deep in thought and sighed. Both felt uncomfortable about their situation. On the one hand he was beyond happy to get back to his home with her, to be back in his territory, his comfort zone where he would do anything to keep her safe, but on the other hand it felt that they were driving into the next desaster. Sure it would take a lot of explaining. A lot of work to get things back to their old life. And still it was unclear how his actions and news would be treated at home. His mother would be furious or proud. Pissed of not having a treasure or delighted of hearing what damage they made of the marines image.

"We just have to bare with it…take whatever will come.", he whispered, while guiding the ship through the water.

The world was against them. And all alone they wouldn't be able to make it.

Katakuri endured many things. Hell he faced death with open arms and was more than grateful to get a second chance in life to stay with (Y/N). He was sure, whatever would come, he would fight for her and their future.

On the other side, gladly far far away, were two older men sitting before a den den mushi with an irritated look on their faces. Crossing their arms over their big chests, they weren't sure how to handle the temper of the men on the other line.

"Everyone is on high alert of the latest news of Wano Land. It sure was troublesome what happened, nevertheless we have to focus on the main topic. Can't this wait for awhile Sakazuki?", Garp asked and already knew the answer just by the low growl he got back.

"No it has to be done today. I don't want to waste any time.", Akainu spoke pissed on the other line and had to hold himself back to avoid burning the phone of his anger. Furious was an understatement and that he had to explain his actions, because he needed help to get this task done wasn't helping either. Still on the way to Wano Land he was hanging on the phone for hours to get his orders done properly and mostly quickly.

Giving the semi retired Admiral Sengoku next to him a worried look, Garp was deep in thought about what to say. He knew exactly what the Fleet Admiral had in mind and it sure was very bothersome. That he would go that far was well yeah to be expected, but how they should deal with it was another case. He discussed the situation with Sengoku,who wasn't pleased to hear that a young woman had gone this far and not only was able to get into the marineford that easily, she also was able to break out of this place with her husband. A dangerous wanted pirate. But what bothered him the most, was how Akainu treated this young woman during her stay and still it seemed that he didn't give up.

"It says that betrayal is punished with death so why do you want it that way?", Garp asked seriously. For a moment it was silent and it felt like the fleet Admiral had cut the line, but then his deep voice echoed through the phone.

" I want her alive. I will judge her actions and choose the punishment myself. The bounty stays this way.", Akainu spoke sharply without space for any other opinions.

"Still if you think we would attack whole cake Island and get into a fight with Big mom, who is by the way at Wano Land too, I have to disappoint you. Just for one woman we won't make a fuss Admiral. And mostly risk innocent lifes.", Garp hissed back and knew he had hit a nerve. Balling his fist in anger, Akainu knew right away what this old bastard was hinting at. The memories of Ace's execution were still burnt in his mind with hours of complains about his awful actions afterwards. Marine or not. Garp was in his eyes a traitor than a supporter.

"I want it done immediately."

With a loud clash the call ended and the two men gave each other a confused look. Sighing Garp looked over the piece of paper in his hands, which was the cause of their conversation with Akainu and felt pity for this woman. She was a criminal, a wife of a known pirate, nevertheless her look alone showed anything but harm. And now she had the worst nightmare as an enemy.

"She is a beauty. Never would I believe that such a sweet looking girl would be able to do such things..", Sengoku took the picture and had to smile of her happy expression.

"What I heard from the cadets, she was really an angel. She always helped other marines, was polite, kind and even standing up against Sakazuki's anger to protect others. And she always showed interest. If you ask me, she just wanted to safe her husband without any bad intentions against us. And that is quite honorable than awful. Nevertheless she broke the rules and had to face justice…a pirate is a pirate. Beautiful or not. Forced into it or not. Now her title is official.", Garp spoke and got a short nod as agreement.

" Yeah you are right. Unfortunate for me to think that I hope to never see her in real. That she would never get caught, because whatever Akainu plans,it sure is more terrifying than death.", Sengoku spoke and got up to sign the order and get things into actions. It was useless to wait any longer. If Akainu wanted it that way, then it had to be done that way. He was the Fleet Admiral after all.

It didn't take them long to spread the news to all outposts across the sea. With a short alarm sound, slowly the fresh painted wanted poster was presented to the other marines, other officers, other Leutnants, who put the piece of paper on the wanted list. Her face was now known all over the world.

No way to escape anymore. Anywhere.

His fingers glided across her smiling face. Across her beautiful body, dressed in the white marine dress, he adored so much and underlined her curves perfectly. That was they way she should look. How often was he dreaming about touching her soft looking skin. Her flawless body and kissing these beautiful plump lips who growled back at him at the dark cellar on their first day.

There has to be a mistake.

She was taken by force. Taken by cruel dirty hands of a pirate and pushed into a marriage for a political reason. There has to be a reason why she rescued this damn monster. She was too flawless too innocent to understand the world. Brainwashed, scared and confused. She wasn't thinking clear and he would do anything to guide her back to where she belong. And never would he accept the betrayal she did to him. Wasting his generous offer to become something great.

Smirking Akainu puffed his cigar and placed the wanted poster on his table,satisfied with its look and information.

"Go wherever you want. Hide wherever you want. I will get you. You will see….and then my sweet princess you will pay. "

TwiFicmas NYE Edition: Variable Stars

Okay, since I got some very desperate DMs, you all win and we'll celebrate the end of 2023 with Variable Stars, and the beginning of 2024 with STL snippets.

This is a few pieces from Ch 7 of Variable Stars. It's close to done, and the bare bones of Ch 8 has been set up. I look forward to getting back into the swing of VS because friends to lovers is just so damn wholesome.

She’s not sure when everything changed. 

When it stopped being the Cullen home and it stopped being Jasper’s home and it started being hers too. When she started seeing her own face in the photographs on the walls, when the other family members called for her, she wasn’t just an extension of Jasper. 

She knows the house (which step is cracked because one of them stepped down too hard, but there’s been a lot of damage lately, so they’re all gingerly avoiding it in the hopes it can hold out a few weeks so that Esme doesn’t get too mad. Which bathroom never has hot water after midnight. That Carlisle moved all the travel books from the top-most shelves in the library down  to her eye-level so she could take them without lingering. That the spinning chair in the living room is shoved in the corner near the window because it’s her favourite but she won’t sit in it if her back is exposed.)

She knows that Esme is fiercely protective of her garden, that the stepping-stones are there for a reason. There’s a greenhouse that’s about to be built; and that Bella sulks if anyone is in the hammock when she wants to use it. (She also knows that Emmett and Rose are banned from the hammock because of what they did to the last one.)

And the forest. She knows it better than anything. That’s where they hunt, where her and Jasper go running. Where he found her that day, washing off the blood. Where they play-fight and she plays on the ice at the end of winter and it’s all broken up in pieces.

Then there is Jasper. There are a million different ways to explain Jasper and who he is to her, how he soothes all the raw spots and open wounds just by being there. Everything is easier with him, and there's never a day when she doesn't thank whatever higher power exists that they crossed paths.  

(Peace is a funny thing; it feels solid but she’s so intensely aware of how easily it could shatter. Eight vampires in one place is a recipe for disaster; she never forgets that. But for now, she just savours every single moment.)

It’s home. She’s finally home.

Some things are inevitable; Alice knows this well enough. Her death, for instance - setting foot in that hospital when she was a newborn, where the doctor knew who she was… that was a place people went to die, not to heal.

Realising that the only thing her gift would bestow upon her was death, destruction, and the legacy of a monster was another. 

Oh, and Jasper being someone important. There had always been something about him, even when he was a nomadic grump. 

But Alice has accepted that certain things are inevitable and avoiding them, or pretending they aren’t going to happen. The only thing she can really do is accept them, and face them head on, no matter how nervous or uncomfortable she might be. 

That is to say, she’s heard about Peter and Charlotte before; Jasper’s got lots of stories about them and it’s nice to hear to his stories - she’d like to set Maria ablaze for some of the things she did to him, and she’s more than a little bit sorry that she never made it for enough into Mexican to make the woman burn for her sins, but Jasper seems to be mostly at peace with everything that happened to him. 

(He worries more over her stories, which she finds funny. A couple of bites is nothing, and she makes it abundantly clear that she walked away the victor in those battles. When she says that, he always relaxes, like he’s worrying for her in that actual moment even when she’s sitting opposite him playing Go Fish in pom-pom socks.)

Sometimes she wonders what he would say if she told him the real story about how she woke up. About the one named James and the woman with him, about what she did to him, about finding the hospital and going inside and decimating it, killing every single person she found. If he’d be mad at her, or disgusted, or angry for her or what. 

It’s purely academic of course; she’s never, ever going to tell him all of that. As much as the past doesn’t bother him, she still remembers how he used to look, how he used to carry himself all those decades ago. She doesn’t want to add more violence, more rage to the burdens he carries. 

(She never wants to become one of his stories, like Maria.)

There’s more and more talk about their next move. That makes Alice nervous, he realizes. For a second, that’s confusing because there’s no way that moving will change anything - it’s still their family, just in a new place (there’s a vigorous debate between Montana, Minnesota, and Maine - he’s hoping for Minnesota because the home there is on a huge parcel of land where they can roam without being disturbed. Maine is the most claustrophobic option, a place where they will be under the most scrutiny, and Alice isn’t ready for that yet.)

But he takes a second and realises, for Alice, this is a huge change. The utter unknown - this house is the only home she’s ever known. She might have heard about high school and college, and posing as human, but she’s never had to play that part. 

(He’s already cornered Carlisle and told him that Alice isn’t going to school yet. Her reading and writing are good, but not enough to deal with a high school class. Not to mention that he got almost a decade before he was forced to play his part in their charade; Alice deserves the same.)

Esme is making adjustments to the house model in the family meeting, her stylus darting over the screen as everyone throws out requirements (or demands) about their new residence - Edward wants a music room, Rosalie wants space for at least twelve cars, Carlisle and Bella had grand plans for the scale and design of the library. 

His requests are the same as always - his study, and a bathroom he doesn’t have to share. Esme is doting and amused as she confirms his space, the exact requirements he gives for every single new house. 

“Alice, what do you need?” she asks, and Alice has been very quiet; Bella and Carlisle are still debating the two-story library of their dreams. 

She looks like a deer in the headlights as Esme looks at her expectantly, and looks at him for help. 

“Another bedroom and ensuite, maybe with an extra-giant closet for all your clothes,” he says teasingly, and Esme is already nodding, already sketching. 

“I don’t have that many.” She’s trying to sound flippant but she’s already looking relieved as Emmett begins negotiating a gaming room of his own. It’s true, she rarely asks Esme for anything more complicated than help navigating the washer and dryer. It’s him that she goes to for money, with questions, everything. And it’s Esme and Carlisle that come to him when they need her to know something, especially if it’s a delicate topic. 

And he likes it that way, likes that he can be useful, be important for a purpose.

The thing that they all like to ignore is that Bella’s change wasn’t without its difficulties. The Volturi had hovered in the peripheral right up until she had reawakened; it was that tangible risk that had allowed them to form a formal, ongoing alliance with the Pack, and allowed Bella to keep Charlie in her life. It was messy and uneasy but Edward was convinced that Aro held no malice for the entire debacle - Bella was changed, her shield gift only interested Aro in how it had manifested when Bella was human, and everyone had parted friends. 

(Well, Caius and Jane were still looking for reasons to destroy the lot of them, but the linchpin in the whole thing was Aro, and he was suitably amused and affectionate towards Carlisle that they were safe.)

Alice had been bewildered and scared when they’d told her the entire story, her unease syrupy as they spoke about Volterra and the agreements, Victoria and James, the Pack. She was slack-jawed when Carlisle explained that he had been close friends with the Volturi for decades before he had his family. 

He has his arm tight around her as the story is told, and quietly reassures her that they have no reason to ever see Aro, the Volturi, or even set foot in Italy. 

“They only punish those that break the laws,” he says and she nods, but the fear is still there.

i'm eating up your hc analyses

speaking of the different charlotte units, i've been wondering if you have any thoughts on v19? she's by far one of the most confusing characters in my eyes. of course, i got that entire monologue about the entertainment industry, but her as a character i never fully understood. i've seen people water her down to just the author "complaining" about/to the audience, but she seems like so much more.

IM SO SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG. but i'm getting to it now... after rewriting a lot of my original thoughts on the matter since im so happy you asked this

tl;dr v19 is a criticism on the entertainment industry/exploitation of angst and trauma, while also serving as a direct foils to charles and scarlett and being the ultimate downfall of both of them. #Girl

DISCLAIMER BEFOREHAND: V19 is absolutely the... hardest to talk about charlotte, for multiple reasons (how she talks with scarlett, the things she does talk about, her past and interactions with the house etc etc) and while a lot of the subject matter in her story is handled crudely, i don't think it is bad or intentionally malicious

i also think she is the charlotte etherane struggled to write the most since she has such a large role in the wider story but thats a whole different topic. she is kind of a mess! (said lovingly)

the rest of this is going underneath a cut. a lot of it is personal interpretation and therefore will not fit with other peoples views on v19/the plot

V19 is likely one of the, if not the, first Charlotte unit. If not the first unit, then the first one to gain consciousness and awareness of living in the "False Realm" and of the true nature of the True Realm. She is also, for sure, the first Charlotte to discover Mother and the only Charlotte who has done permanent damage to The House without direct interference from Charles. Scarlett had to use the powers of The Oracle to help stop her

She can be seen manipulating the House, changing the nature of the False Realm itself, and similar things we only see Charles able to do. While Char-Scar.. uh... destroyed the realm, and Q84 wielded Mother's power, they both suffered drastic consequences for doing so (and, again, only were able to with the interference of Charles) and while V19 wasn't like, having a good time, she also wasn't possessed with the strength of an actual God or actively rotting away and dying

So we have her 1) Knowing the truth about the False Realm and Mother, 2) Able to wield the powers of Mother without dying, and 3) Wrecking so much havoc that The Oracle is willing to step in to help her (...While also gleefully ruining Scarlett's life in the process). Let's talk about how this ties into Charles (and the "True God")

(This is all being very generous, of course. We know that after the Wish is used, the Charlotte's die [as seen with Q84], but since we don't know V19's wish, all we can see is her wreaking havoc on everything and not dying or suffering for it the way everyone else has)

V19 hates Charles. While her speech is a heavy-handed commentary on the entertainment industry as a metaphor, in-universe it directly refers to Charles and how all the Charlotte's directly exist to be abused and harmed as little whump dolls for his own personal venting and vendetta against Scarlett. she is a big, personal "fuck you" to Charles.

....And similarly to the industry she talks about, she becomes him to gain power and escape from her abuse. She takes on the mantle of a "God," literally wears the same outfit as him and Umbrella Man/Father, strikes the same pose as him (the white eyes/smile), and changes and influences the story for her own whims/entertainment

she is a sufferer who perpetuates the same cycle of suffering to teach others a lesson, which is influenced by the incredibly flawed view Charles has on women and abuse, which extends to Scarlett.

While Char-Scar and Q84, both influenced by Charles, are represented by purity, V19 is the only one who isn't and gets grossly violent at points. She is not "pure," so she cannot be "helped" by Charles or Umbrella Man, or by Seth, and has to forge her own path forward through violence

...Bringing up her outfit again, how she is the only Charlotte who chooses to wear the black Oracle outfit, rather than being forced to wear it like Char-Scar? And how black tends to represent groundedness and reality, compared to white's delusion and purity?

She is not loved by her God, so she decides to take matters into her own hands when confronted

....and forces Scarlett to strangle her to death.

(I'm going to talk about this more in a different post, but V19 makes Scarlett kill her by straddling her and pinning her to the ground... V19 is a victim of rape... Yeah, you can make the connection.)

She is an incredibly nihilistic person, excited to show Scarlett how horrible the world they live in is and break her "illusion" of safety/happiness/peace.

And then, Scarlett decides to become a Charlotte, the a vessel that get exploited and abused by the False Realm and suffers horrifically for it. While she gets much more kinder endings than V19, she is still stuck in the same loop that V19 is.

She is proved wrong, of course, ending up in the same cycle as the rest of the Charlotte's. And when she does "break free," by becoming the Oracle, it is still not of her own will, and she is still lead by the hand by Umbrella Man/Charles... and she does become a murderer, by all technical terms.

She and her trauma and abuse are exploited for "entertainment"... AKA, for Charles, AKA for a game. (AKA how young women especially are used and exploited and just have to "put up with it")

(She and Q84 are very similar, in different directions. Q84 is the "pure little sister/daughter," while V19 is the impure, violent killer. Madonna-whore complex to the MAX! They kill equally, but since Q84 is based around his own views of purity (...and is influenced by Vincent and his personality, someone who he views as practically a God) and V19 is pretty directly influenced by Anri, someone who he struggles to connect and relate to and often villainizes, Q84 can be excused and V19 cannot. They're the Golden Child/Black Sheep. They both hate him.)

(She also shares a lot of similarities with Anri. Her body shape, the way she dresses, her "cruel/dismissive" as interpreted by the Eylers being revealed to either be directly untrue or a red herring, her trauma, the way she is treated by the Eylers, etcetera. She is impure to Charles in the same way that Anri is impure to him)

Scarlett directly mentions how she wonders if V19's wish was for Scarlett to become a Charlotte. If she was doomed to fall down a similar path.

Maybe, or maybe not. V19's existence leads to the fall of the House and of the False Realm. Her forcing Scarlett to "see the truth," leading to Char-Scar, leading to Q84's creation and Charles's suicide.

In the true ending of Childhood's End, Q84 kills Char-Scar, and her and Charles die together as The House and the False Realm self-destructs, and Mother dies.

V19 is the beginning of the end - "The One Who Began It All." Her actions directly lead to the death of The House. Everything you'd want to avoid in a Charlotte - mean, abused, and knowing of the true nature of The House. Under all circumstances, she should just be thrown to the side and left to die. But that's the point - the Charlotte's being abused and used as entertainment and, well, "torture porn" is what leads to the death of the False Realm, or "the industry" because one decides to fight back and take out everyone else with her.

It also shows to the instability of Charles's mind that one act of rebellion can be the catalyst to the death of everything. This is similar to how real-life abuse and exploitation work, with whistleblowers blowing abusive situations wide open. While Charles is not an abuser, he directly represents the cycle of abuse within the False Realm.

The Charlotte's are the "Perfect Girl" to Charles. They have to live up to his standard, or they are gotten rid of. While this is usually portrayed through Mother/Lilith's real-life neglect, Charles also enacts this violence upon the Charlotte's, whether intentionally or not. See how he wanted to hurt Char-Scar but gave it up because of how "good" and "kind" she was.

V19 was not perfect, so she did not get the same kind of treatment. She was allegedly crude, mean, and erratic. She was abused and assaulted by her classmates. She wasn't a sweet, kind, little girl. So, as revenge, she brought the entire House down with her.

She destroyed False Realm. If I had to wager, I would say that was her wish.

Misc. SN character rambling (Gordon Byron)

I very few screenshots for whatever I’m going to ramble about on another character in seekers notes so you’re going to have to take my word for it. This is not an analysis btw i just want to talk about this guy for a bit

There’s this character, Gordon Byron, or Hyperion <- name he picked for himself I will elaborate later.

His family (made up of him, his mother, and his cousin) is a descendant of one of the founders of Darkwood (the city) and though I didn’t read too much into him, I thought his character development was quite interesting

going to be a bit long since i'm running through him as a character, spoilers under the cut

Backstory was that he had run away from home with his beloved that went missing when the curse fell upon the city but returned after realizing that he had responsibilities being the family's heir and such.

He's very quiet as a character, kept to books and nature and is a pretty big romantic but when he came back, and through the story he started getting invested in his family's history, aka. one of the founders named nostromo and his powers etc etc and also taking more initiative to help the city via. paying funds for damages and suggesting new things to keep the townspeople safe

okay to be honest theres some collecting crystal infinity stone level thing going on in the story and there's this section in the plot where gordon and i had to dive underwater to look for a stone tablet depicting one of the missing steps to getting one of the crystals

and some explosion happens and i get shot out of the water, leaving him underwater and the other characters and i are all panicking because the water breathing potion we took had some timing to it and he was about to die or something

but he emerges soon enough, with the gauntlet belonging to the founder equipped in his hand, and you can tell that this power was getting to his head

at this point, i was filling philiah in on the lore and i told her 'i think it would be really profound if he let the power get to him and influence him negatively' and lo and behold.

anyways carrying on, he started really embracing the name hyperion (a pseudonym he made up himself because if i can remember right, all the other founders also had one themselves) and having his own group of specialised guards.

then some attack happened on the city again where ghostly creatures appeared (summoned by the antagonist), and after gordon fought them off, he decided to set a curfew & interrogate all the townspeople because they could be people from a crime organisation (called the shadows) in disguise

cough cough side note, informant was telling me about how his guard kept going trying to capture him and he was frustrated that not only did he have to run from the crime organisation but he also had to run from the guard too lol.

and holy shit theres this section that especially got me where he was asking me for an update on the crystals and i told him it was going alright, letting on a little more detail than i liked and he then asks me to find more of this truth potion for him and then he says this

he slipped a truth potion !!! !! !! !!!! unknowingly!!!!!! to me!! HOLAY MOLAY!!!. and when i went to talk to charlotte, she tells me about how some of the people who took the potion were down with pretty bad illnesses and fevers. THAT IS SO WILD.

he had to be suspended of his role and his guard operations after he nearly endangered the lives of the members of the crime organisation

THERES A LOT OF STUFF THAT HAPPENS INBETWEEN BUT ITS PRETTY BIZZARE BECAUSE HIS ANGER GETS THE BETTER OF HIM (and they really did show that he gets angry easily)

Chapter 1063: Ambush

When I read the spoilers this week and saw Law’s name, I actually gasped. I had just resigned myself to not seeing him for at least a year, if not longer--depending on how long this current arc lasted. But we must truly be in the endgame if we’re seeing flashes to the outside world in the middle of an arc rather than between arcs.

And then I saw what was happening with Law and basically had this reaction:

Me: I miss Law already. I hope we see him sooner rather than later. Oda: Law vs. Blackbeard Me: NO NOT LIKE THAT

But I’ll come back to this. First, the cover story:

So, it looks like Kuzan kidnapped Pudding, which would give Blackbeard the ability to read the Poneglyphs. For all the twisted nature of the Charlotte family, you can tell they really care about one another. 

Of course, Zoro’s request from last chapter was left on a cliffhanger. Still, we have some good moments with divorced dad Jinbei and his Devil Fruit-eating children.

And thus, the Glutton Trio was born XD

And Atlas throwing some shade at Jinbei, but Jinbei just goes with it.

I love him. So much.

And just when I don’t think I can love him any more, he becomes even more the divorced dad with his Hawaiian shirt.

Okay, anyway. To the completely unexpected part of the chapter: TRAFALGAR D. WATER LAW IS BACK.

The Blackbeard Pirates have ambushed the Hearts, and the Tang has taken too much damage to stay submerged.

And suddenly...

The fandom explodes. Oda’s been finding ways to bring a number of his SBS sketches into canon, from the young Warlords (Seraphim) to female Law. This is so random and more evidence someone needs to bonk Oda and send him to horny jail.

(She is really cute, though.)

I can’t stop laughing at female Bepo in the background though.

Shachi and Penguin are such dorks, and Law has no patience for it. I love their friendship.

For all the people (looking at you, Reddit) who think Law has weak Haki, well...

He’s able to overcome the effects of Doc Q’s powers with his Haki.

Look, Doc Q’s powers are the ability to spread disease, so I find the idea that being a woman is a “disease” pretty gross. I’d like to know if Ikkaku turned into a man during this; if the “disease” is just changing genders, then my annoyance drops significantly.

Still, the translation of “Ma-lady” was clever. I’ll be interested to see the official translation of this line.

(Update: The official called it the “Feminizaton Disease.” Gross.)

We see the various Devil Fruits members of the Blackbeard Pirates have gotten, including the Warp-Warp Fruit and the Buff-Buff Fruit.

I was thinking about this, but @chromatic-lamina​ has a nice breakdown here of how these powers are essentially all things Law’s own fruit can do. He seems like the best person to counter these various powers.

And then the big man himself arrives -- hilariously, on the back of Doc Q.

I love this panel with Law popping out of the panels as he faces Blackbeard. (Also, he’s still in his tank top. Now I may need to be bonked, oops.)

What’s really interesting to me here, though, is the familiarity with which Blackbeard is speaking. It shows they clearly interacted at Rocky Port. And, lest we forget, Blackbeard is holding Coby -- the so-called hero of Rocky Port -- captive. This is where we learn what happened during that incident, isn’t it? *vibrates in excitement*

Am I worried about Law here? Yes. Law has a damaged ship and Blackbeard plus three of his lieutenants. Is Law going to hold his own in this fight? Absolutely. I mean, look at this face.

He doesn’t look afraid. However, Blackbeard and his people fight dirty.

There is zero narrative purpose to killing Law here. For one thing, if Oda planned to kill Law as soon as Wano ended, there was no need to give him the new motivation to learn about the Will of D. Yes, Robin is also interested, but Law is the only D. we’ve seen who wants to know about his name. For another, Luffy doesn’t need more motivation to want to fight Blackbeard; his role in Ace’s death is plenty. 

But Blackbeard also is going to get some kind of win here, I think.

That said, I could easily see Law being taken captive and, held alongside Coby, we learn about the Rocky Port incident. I could also see an interruption to the fight a la Rayleigh coming to Amazon Lily. 

I hope it’s not off-screened, but then again, the last time we saw Sabo, he was on an island that got nuked and we haven’t heard anything since.

(Are we going to see what Kid is up to in a future chapter as well? I’m still so surprised to see Law so soon after the end of Wano.)

Random Boxtrolls Headcanons/Speculations

(Whilst I write elsewhere) -Boxtrolls hate rain, and try to avoid water/damp areas in general as moisture can damage cardboard and cause it to mold. -They also have specialized molars in their mouth that they use for chewing holes in cardboard. This was especially useful in their escape from the box crusher. -Before the scene where Oil Can was caught, Eggs had attempted to theorize "Hey, maybe if we help the people of Cheesebridge instead of scouring their streets for parts, maybe we won't be captured!" Evidently this did not work out. -Winnifred loves Madame Frou Frou and the performance for Trubshaw Baby Remembrance Day. She's been pert of the performance for a few years now, and she looks up to Madame Frou Frou as kind of a dancing/acting coach. The performance and the holiday in general are partly to blame for her morbid fascinations. -And despite all this, Snatcher cannot get her good side when he's out of costume. (So that begs the question why he was trying to influence her, perhaps as another way to influence her father into the same false beliefs he's laying on the entire town, so he can get closer to the White Hat.) -Snatcher is allergic to exotic bacteria within the cheese and not the dairy itself -Mr. Trout wishes he could tap dance. But he's really bad at it. He also runs a book club. And he made the paper hats. -And the red hats don't actually live in their factory (unlike what Winnie thought) Snatcher has a house and the others probably stay some cramped space nearby, idk I'll think about it. -Cheshire (The Butler we see at the beginning of the film) got fired. This one isn't even a headcanon. He never shows up again after he lets the giant cheese roll out the door. He even has a speaking line. -I like to think Egg's mom was named Charlotte. I don't know why.

I think there's also the possibility of invisible injuries for the trio. Ben and Riley could have ear damage from being inside The Charlotte when it exploded, though we don't see it.

I agree, there’s definitely the possibility of invisible injuries, and I didn’t start my running tally until after they return to D.C., which left out some good possibilities.

I love the idea of ear damage from the Charlotte explosion. I mean I don’t love it, but I love the idea of subjecting the characters to it and watching the fallout. You know what I mean.

Ears

I like the idea that Ben especially is so fixated on the treasure that he doesn’t notice until after it’s found. For the week-ish between finding the Charlotte and finding the treasure he’s in his own little world where everything other than the hunt is just noise.

Another favorite of mine, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, used this device really well. Throughout season 2 we’re shown occasional moments from main character Gil Grissom’s perspective where the audio is muted/“underwater”/out of focus. It’s left for the viewer to decide if this represents Grissom being lost in his thoughts or something more, until the end of the season when we learn he’s facing hereditary hearing loss. I imagine a similar reveal with Ben.

Maybe he keeps asking Riley to turn the volume on his earpiece up, but chocks it up to the adrenaline and the fact that he can hear his heartbeat in his teeth during the heist.

Maybe he’s losing what Abigail says whenever she turns away during the car ride to Philadelphia, but he figures she’s trying not to wake Riley.

Maybe with every part of his body and mind buzzing with the possibility of finding the treasure, he doesn’t even notice that his ears are ringing.

Concussions, emotional trauma, and more below!

It’s only after the high of finding the treasure finally subsides that Ben realizes the ringing hasn’t gone away. Once he’s back in his usual environment he’d have a better metric for whether the TV or stereo is set to a louder volume, or that the doorbell and phone seem farther away.

Riley might have a similar experience, though I get the impression that Riley might be a bit less in tune with his senses to begin with. Whereas Ben has always noticed the faint crinkle of old paper or the drip of water in an old stone basement, most of Riley’s sensory input is digital anyway.

So they both need to have their hearing checked out, but Riley might feel less of an effect on his daily routine.

I also want to raise the possibility that Riley had a heavy metal phase? So maybe his hearing was shot already.

Respiratory

The boys could also be at risk for airway or lung damage due to the smoke from the explosion. Who knows what tar, pitch, lead, or other chemicals the ship contained, not to mention several tons of c. 1700s gunpowder.

Luckily they weren’t exposed for very long so hopefully the risk is minimal. Though if, say, Riley had asthma as a child, the exposure could trigger a reappearance of symptoms.

Infection

If Riley's splinter really has been "festering for three months" then he almost certainly has some kind of infection and needs antibiotics. It might even be an antibiotic resistant variety if it's lasting that long. Who knows what was growing on that wood.

Musculoskeletal

I’m becoming more invested in the idea that Abigail suffered a more significant shoulder injury that a simple bruise or strain. In fact, I think she’s a candidate for a torn rotator cuff.

This common shoulder injury can happen in two ways. It is most often caused by repetitive stress, such as typing, manual labor, etc. However, it can also happen suddenly as the result of an injury.

Acute causes include “falling on an outstretched arm or lifting something heavy.”

Check, check, and check.

If this were the case, Abigail might experience pain when lying down, lifting her arm up, or reaching behind her back, as well as weakness in her arm or a popping or clicking sound when trying to move it.

Based on our findings from the injuries article I think this would line up with what we see in the film, since we don’t see her attempting most of these movements after the stairs sequence. All she does is hold a torch, and both times she has it in her left hand, she quickly moves it to her right.

In the short term she’d need rest, ice, and pain relievers. Later she might need physical therapy.

She might even be a candidate for surgery. A tear resulting from a recent in jury is one of the few scenarios were surgery might be necessary. (The others being if the tear is particularly large or symptoms last for 6 to 12 months.)

This is less than stellar news for Abigail, but great news for us! These all seem like excellent ingredients for a Maximum Angst Scenario™, at least as far as fallout from the treasure hunt would go. Ben would never forgive himself for dragging her into something that got her that significantly injured, and he’d had plenty of unavoidable reminders as Abigail went through the process of recovery.

We know from the film that they’re dating and Abigail’s arm is fine three months after the hunt, but my personal headcanon is that it was not a straight line to get there.

Head

A concussion can result from “a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or body.” While we don’t see any of Team Treasure get hit directly in the head (such as being thrown against a wall, etc) it’d be hard to argue that all of them don’t qualify for a bump or jolt to the head or body.

That’s something I imagine the paramedics who examine them after the hunt are checking for. If any of the gang did suffer a concussion, paramedics (or FBI agents accompanying them) might notice that they appear dazed or stunned, forget instructions, or are slow to answer questions. The treasure hunter in question might also report a headache, nausea or vomiting, balance problems, dizziness, blurred vision, feeling sluggish, groggy, or confused, being bothered by light or noise, or just “not feeling right.”

These symptoms may also not appear until hours or days after the concussion. In any case, they’d be looking at several weeks of recovery mostly consisting of rest and limiting physical and mental activity. Again, fruitful space to play.

✨Trauma✨

Lastly, if we’re talking about invisible injuries, I think it’s fair to ask if Team Treasure racked up any emotional trauma in the course of the quest.

According to the Jed Foundation, trauma is “end result of events or experiences that leave us feeling deeply unsafe and often helpless. It can result from a single event or be part of an ongoing experience.”

It is perfectly believable to argue that everybody involved had a fun, exciting treasure hunt and—other than a few scrapes and bruises—came away with only fulfillment of life missions, renewed family bonds, new significant others, and validation in the eyes of the historical community. (Oh, and 100 million dollars.)

But. If you did want to take things in a darker direction, could you? Of course! The gang’s collectively

been kidnapped

hung from a speeding vehicle

almost been run over

been arrested

jumped off an aircraft carrier

nearly fallen into and endless pit

been left for dead five stories underground

I think anyone so inclined could easily make the argument that any or all of them experience lasting psychological effects. I’m no psychologist, so have some lists!

Emotional/behavioral responses include:

Shock, denial, or disbelief

Confusion, difficulty concentrating

Anger, irritability, mood swings

Anxiety and fear

Guilt, shame, self-blame

Withdrawing from others

Feeling sad or hopeless

Feeling disconnected or numb

Physical symptoms include:

Insomnia or nightmares

Fatigue

Being startled easily

Difficulty concentrating

Racing heartbeat

Edginess and agitation

Aches and pains

Muscle tension

According to helpguide.org, “Trauma symptoms typically last from a few days to a few months, gradually fading as you process the unsettling event.”

So.

Maybe Abigail’s coworkers notice that she’s jumpy and easily startled in the weeks after the hunt. She can’t concentrate. Ben worries that she’s ignoring him, but she’s actually been pulling away from everyone in her life.

Maybe Riley can’t sleep, and when he does it’s all endless pits and falling rock and enemies blending into a crowd. When he’s awake his heart races and he’s flooded with anxiety about where the floor will fall out from under his life next.

Maybe Ben feels angry and empty and he doesn’t know why. He did it—he found the Templar treasure; he fulfilled all those years of hopes and promises. He should be happy. He should be ecstatic. But he isn't. He’s afraid to tell anyone that all he feels is numb.

Conclusion

Okay, I have made myself sad! Thought experiment: successful.

This topic pushed me to think more about the aftermath, and about what effects would linger with them long after the treasure hunt and the film was over. I love these angles that invite me to see the humanity behind the story.

“Drive faster you fucking idiot, they are trying to kill us!” 

   Why did I get in the driver's side? I have never driven before and I don't think the panic I'm feeling is helping. Leon is right though, somehow they are gaining on us on foot. 

“Instead of stating the obvious, why don't you guide me?” I am having trouble focusing on the road with all of this adrenaline and my dog barking in the bed of the truck. 

    As I drive I can see familiar parts of the town, toppled and burning. Under other circumstances I'd be saddened by this but my mind can't even begin to process what has happened here. I can only wonder if anyone I know survived this massacre.

    “Turn left up ahead,” Leon yells “I think we can make it to Abner's with enough distance to get to safety.” 

    That sounds like a great plan right now. Abner was a doomsday prepper, that loon definitely has a bunker, he might even have guns we can take, not that they would be much help.

   “Char, when we pull up to his place it's up to you to grab the dog. I will have to run in and find the door for us. Do you understand?” 

   “Yes, I got it. How is your arm?”

   “Don't worry about my arm, just focus on getting there.”

    Leon is always like this. When Dad died, he wouldn't be honest with me on how he felt. They spent twenty years together but I didn't see him shed a single tear. He isn't emotionless, I've seen him cry during mildly sad parts of kids movies. I just don't know how you could love someone like that and not be visibly upset for even a moment after their passing. 

   “Pull in to the right, get ready to jump out.”

    Blaze has stopped barking now, that must mean those things are far enough away.

  “Blaze, let's go boy. Up up.”

   Leon has already busted through the door, it looks like he kicked it. 

   “Found it! Back here Charlotte, in the living room, through the bookcase!”

   Running through this place, it doesn't look like it's been targeted. Everything in here is intact. The walls look scratched up, but no structural damage or signs that it caught fire. 

   “C’mon Blaze, go get Leon.”

   The bookcase looks like Abner never once read a book. It definitely was only put in to hide something. This place smells like ocean water.

   Passing the bookshelf I see Leon standing by an open hatch, like that of an old submarine, coming out of the wall. The wheel is rusted all over but the rest of the door looks brand new. The walls of this tiny hall leading to the hatch look like this house was built around a massive boulder and this hatch leads into it. Who the hell would build around a fucking rock? Abner was pretty crazy so I guess it's not worth it to question. 

   Blaze jumps through the hatch into darkness as Leon is waving at me to run in. There aren't any steps up to the door and it's at shoulder height. I can hear things outside getting close. I better jump in quickly. I sprint as fast as possible and dive through the opening and I hear the door shut behind me and hear the wheel turning. 

“LEON!!!!!! NO, LEON!!!!!!!” 

  I hear muffled screaming and then silence. They got him. They fucking got him. Why didn't he jump in? Why did he leave me? I can't do this. I panic when my shoe gets untied. WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY? WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED HERE.

  I seem to have passed out at some point while hyperventilating. I can't see anything at all down here, but I can hear Blaze panting in front of me as he slowly walks forward. The hatch has no way to open from the inside that I can find. 

   “Blaze, get back here” I whisper. He isn't listening though. Typical stubborn mastiff.

I don't have any options though. I will follow him. Even if there were lights down here I don't think I would be able to see. It feels like my eyes are swollen shut from my tears. 

 After what seems like hours, Blaze has led me to what I think is a door with a window just above my eye line. There isn't enough light coming through for me to see where I currently am. Blaze is quietly whining and pawing at the base of the door. Now on my tiptoes looking through the small window. “What the fuck?” It's the basement from the house we were attacked at. “H-h-how could…. This doesn't make…..”

   I hear someone

“Charlotte, get Blaze and get down here quick.” Is that Leon? How? “Here are the keys, you are driving”  

   Hold on, this already happened. What is going on?

  “But I've never driven before. What are you doing? "

"I can't drive with these injuries, I'll tell you how to do everything. We have to go now though, through the bulkhead door.” 

   The door isn't opening. I'm pulling the handle and it won't budge.

   “LEON! LEON WAIT! THEY ARE GOING TO GET YOU! LEON!” I scream and scream but they don't seem to hear me “PLEASE, LEON! YOU NEED TO LIVE!” 

   Leon and me? They both leave, exactly how we did earlier. A head is peeking out from the inside door. A pale white face with an unnatural smile of black teeth starts scanning the area. Are those what we're chasing us? It starts to move into the basement but I can see its body. It's neck is, how is it that long? It is extending its neck all the way down the stairs and is looking around. I start to duck down so it doesn't see. Wait, it sees the open bulkhead door. Its neck is retracting back up the stairs fast. Three of them sprint down the stairs like gorillas and charge out of the basement. 

“Ahh” I tumble forward as the door now flies open.

What the fuck is going on?
