I wasn’t gaming in the 1980′s- I was though in the 1990′s. It was difficult to be accepted then, hell I got asked in gaming stores if I was lost or waiting for my boyfriend more than once when looking for dice. Telling them no was always fun and then having other players of mine going “hell she is out GM for Shadowrun,” was always a hoot.  But I still believe we in our Geek Culture should take in everyone. I was the weird one when I started being the token “girl,” for far too long. Welcome everyone to all the voices in Geek Culture. I think it should be for everyone. This Twitter thread makes me happy that we should always welcome everyone and remember that originally D&D player were ostracized too. Hell, when I started playing any RPG’s I too was ostracized. (It has been awhile since that was a problem, but I remember it and it sucked. My parents were not accepting, and I had to go to other places to game. Especially since it was NOT something girls did. That didn’t stop me and I still run my games to this day... My parents finally accepted it after awhile.)

Just saw a TikTok complaining about ‘kitten’ as a pet name in fanfiction and while I do agree with/understand their discomfort on that one the comments were FULL of people mentioning all the other common pet names ?? Like honey babe baby sweetheart etc ?? Is your partner just supposed to call you by your name the whole time ????????
