for like 3 weeks i was wondering why i was sleeping so much and felt listless. and just now I managed to email 3 people and responded to a month old message in the span of an hour because I got back to TAKING MY FUCKIN MEDS..........

#MOTHER FFFFUCKER #to be fair. my doc said I could stop taking them while im on break since i wouldnt need to be constantly pumped on stimulants #im not sure if it was a side effect but i managed to take like 3 different naps in one day and STILL managed to sleep thru the whole night #at least 2 days into my break. the weird thing is i didnt feel more or less rested afterwards. but mentally i think im in a good place rn #to really put the level of awakeness im at rn i feel weirdly confident i could start one piece. also bc of that sick new opening it BANGS #the song is really good and im in love with the animation style. did some digging and it seems one of the lead animators is masato mori #but i could be wrong. it seems he also did some work on mp100 which could explain a lot lol.. he uses smear frames really well to convey #consistent movement and fluidity!!! someone else might have done color design but it works really really well esp with odas style!! #just love the overall vibe and aesthetic and id really love to study it and incorporate a bit of it into my art.. especially the thick #outlines which i think helps to separate characters and objects on screen. though i have to say the style is definitely more suited to #animation bc of the simpleness and smears. maybe that will help me explore shapes and perspective when i draw... i wanna get better #at drawing poses and angles but i have a hard time wrapping my head around space and using perspective guide lines NGHHHH #i wonder if it has to do with my dogshit ability to judge distance. not depth perception but like. judge how far smth is in metres etc #im also wearing an N95 for the first couple weeks back bc of the wave. absolutely NO BODY is wearing a mask its so fucking over #where im sitting ive heard 5 different people coughing probably not into their elbows!!! and im just. head in my fucking hands #there was a kid sitting a couple seats away in class coughing as he pleases and i wanted to grab him in a chokehold so badly. this was a big big post in my drafts for a while and it mentioned all of my beautiful friends and mutuals, but i got shy and less intoxicated. ill put some of them in tags.

other than obvious monkey see - monkey do, i think the most influential thing was getting the basics of academic art? i won't say i was good at it (i wasn't. though my oil painting was fine, to my knowledge) but it did help me a lot. and believe it or not, getting medicated also changed my process and end result a lot. something in antipsychotics is forcing you to use every texture in the world and abandon line art all together

i have so much work to do for finals season which is frustrating bc on the one hand i'm very glad all my classes have project-based finals where i get to be creative instead of just doing an exam or a paper. however. i have a bad habit with every project-based final ever of accidentally getting an idea that's way too ambitious and creating more work for myself than i need to do

however this semester even tho i fell into that exact same trap my two most elaborate final projects each involve 1. editing a video essay which contains an interview i did with paul bellini and at least 45 seconds of it are bellini talking about why he thinks i have great potential as a comedian, and 2. editing a ten minute reel of the documentary footage i got on tour with scott. which of course involves rewatching various videos of me and scott being extremely chaotic together. so i stay winning ig

#my other finals include ''powerpoint presentation detailing the historical significance of mel brooks the producers'' #and ''live sketch show that i actually don't have a significant role in but that's fine i have a different sketch class next semester'' #(this sketch class was technically ''creating characters and solo performances'' and i really wish i could've done more) #(but also that whole interview-footage-debacle drained so much of my creative energy so sometimes doing the bare minimum is self care) #so i don't have a solo piece in the show. but i do get to say my favorite line in the whole show in a group sketch which is great #and i did sign up to perform an aubrey monologue in a sketch show in a suburb of boston next week #which is gonna be super interesting bc i've been looking to do more performing outside of my college #bc i've found that i don't think college kids are actually my target audience??? or at the very least i want to perform to a wider audience #it's frustrating bc for that show i have to trim the monologue down to 3 minutes but it's the tightest monologue i have and it's 5 minutes #so trimming it down feels like a game of jenga since it's so tight lmao #but honestly even if the performance bombs i'm mostly doing this so i can tell bellini about it lmao #he's so supportive of my comedy and he's been such a great help with my aubrey monologues i feel like this is bellini homework lmao #anyway i probably won't post the video essay publicly bc it's not the style of video essays i want to make #and it's too specific to the class it's for #but if people are interested in watching it i'll send you the vid when it's done #and for the tour video i'll probably post that or at least some version of it #bc that's just gonna be a fun teaser of ''here's the level of behind-the-scenes content you'll be getting from this doc!!'' #and also a fun way to be like. audiences don't know me nearly as well as they know scott #but they will definitely know me by the end of this bc there are so many wild interactions i have on camera of me and scott being chaotic #anyway this post was mostly to organize my thoughts of what i still have to do this week #i am so ready to be done with school lmao i'm gonna be spending a full month in toronto this summer #and it's shaping up to be such an exciting time i can't wait

making a webcomic with my friend and its like a low fantasy world n the main characters r just a bunch of friends in a band. and it's accidental hero trope bc really they're just trying to achieve fame and success with their band but all these bad guys keep trying getting in the way so they really have no choice but to beat them up. like when they're still a pretty small band, they turn up to some dingy little bar for a gig and there's like some dodgy shitty criminal shit going on like the bar owners being controlled and threatened for money or smthg and theyre like, well we can't fuckin play here when this shits going on, guess we gotta deal with these dicks first. it's awesome I love it so so much already.

but also its hilarious because like. every character we've made is partly just me projecting my favourite one piece characters in to our world💀there's a himbo drummer guy who, for an unexplained reason, doesnt have any sort of fantasy powers or anything, just got a mean right hook, who reminds me STRONGLY of a mix of luffy and zoro, there's a violinist I came up with who is 100 percent nico robin, portgas d. ace except he's a vampire and the lead vocalist, a super nerdy geeky girl but she plays bass and is actually cool as fuck and a cyborg and the mom friend totally a mix of franky and maybe nami. and of course the honorary gay depressed emo one (lead guitarist) who is just an alt universe version of law.

God this is going to be so much fun

#i reckon basing characters off characters you know really well and really like is actually GREAT and really helpful #obivously not stealing a whole character but like. combining them or taking aspects of their personality #reallys helps with characterisation #our character making process is nuts and so so fun #we just sit around for ages talking about awesome/funny character tropes and ideas and dynamics and things we want to include #usually inspired by our favourite media #and then just see which ideas kinda go together n lump em all in a character shaped box and BOOM. new character. #one piece #atlas talks #webcomic

I havent been here for the quilting saga, very cool that you're done your squares, what were you going for with this quilt? Like what were ur quilt goals, why did u choose those fabrics? Is it meaningful or all just stuff you like?

This latest quilt is my scrap quilt, which means it's entirely made of fabric scraps from previous quilts I've made. Well, mostly from quilts I've made, plus one bag's worth of scrap fabric from a local quilt shop, plus a few scraps from various peoples' destashes I've been given over the years? So there wasn't really an overarching goal, per se, except to use up fabric scraps because I couldn't bring myself to throw them away but didn't have enough of any one color palette to make a cohesive quilt top. I put zero thought or effort into color distribution except to try to keep different pieces of the same fabric from touching each other, and I had a few very dark fabrics that stand out against my usual "everything is as bright as possible" color choices so I made sure those were distributed evenly across the quilt. As for the quilt pattern itself, it's made of two kinds of 12" blocks. Block A is made of six rows of 2.5" strips. I made them by sewing my 2.5" strips into a very long single piece of fabric and then cutting that into 12.5" by 2.5" rectangles, then sewing those together Block B is basically a 4 patch block, but the upper right and lower left squares are made of smaller 4 patch blocks. So it's two 6.5" squares and eight 3.5" squares per Block B. I chose those sizes because they were small enough to be easy to cut even out of small scraps and scaled well with each other to make a pattern I would not get bored sewing. Every few weeks I'd collect my fabric scraps, iron them, cut them down to those sizes and put them in the scrap quilt drawer until I had enough to make the quilt top I'm working on now

#ask away! #scrap management #I mean that said I did make some of my 6.5 and 3.5 inch blocks with crumb sewing #which means that instead of being a single piece of fabric it's a whole bunch of tiny irregularly shaped pieces sewn together #I also made a bunch of the 3.5 inch squares with half square triangles and quarter square triangles #because I got a tool thing that makes them super easy to cut #and had a lot of fun with that #most of the fabrics are kind of meaningful in that I can look at them and remember the quilts I made with those fabrics #some of them the memory is just 'I cannot resist a bin of scrap fabric at the local quilt shop' #but it's still a lot of memories! #and I'm really proud of myself for sticking to it for this long #I'm usually not the best with long-term crafting projects because I lose interest #but I worked on this a little bit at a time over the years #and now it's almost done! #I should look back and see when I made my earliest scrap management post so I can see when I started it
