Highlight of the sydney eps they did when they first visited in 2019 was easily them all getting recognized so much more than they had clearly ever anticipated, people were just walking up like OH MY GOD!! AU where Teddy moves away, goes to therapy, and realizes his mother wasn’t just clingy, she’s abusive. Sabotaging someone to keep them isnt love. You can be hurting and still held accountable for your actions. Their reactions to your boundaries are not your responsibility.

Teddy gets a job as a police sketch artist.

He comes back to the island to visit and starts getting Very Alarmed about Dean. He replays their childhood in his head with a new, adult perspective and sees it all click into place.

He talks to his therapist and his law enforcement contacts and realizes he can’t have actually have Dean arrested and that Emily might be too groomed to see what’s going on. After all it took him years himself and he’s removed from the situation and isn’t the target.

He talks to Aunt Elizabeth and Ilse and Perry and they make a plan. (Idk what specifically tbh)

Ultimately it will be up to Emily to leave but they’re gonna do what they can to give her the space and safety to start thinking more clearly about it.

Teddy carefully starts telling Emily what he learned about abuse and boundaries and keeps it all about him and his mother but hopes she’ll think about Dean.

He carefully asks questions and listens without giving her any specific advice unless she asks.

“Why do you feel you owe him? Do you feel that way about other people in your life?”

“It sounds like you feel responsible for his disappointment?”

I keep trying to find a way Teddy (or better yet - Emily) can have Dean arrested but I can’t come up with it.

Man Teddy could have been such a good character and he was just fully wasted. Emileddy even has interesting opposite-but-similar trauma in so many ways.

Re: teddy's mom, I think that's something we see appear more than once in LM Montgomery's work--someone who is emotionally abusive or worse but legitimized through being presented as a tragic figure. Unfortunately no examples come to mind, but iirc her short stories can have that theme. An extreme example is the short story of the man who falls in love with a woman, she chooses to marry someone else and has a daughter, he helps raise the daughter, and then MARRIES THE DAUGHTER IN WHAT'S PRESENTED AS A FIX IT SCENARIO.

With Teddy, I honestly think the problem is that he doesn't balance out Emily well. Other LMM pairings go very well together in a satisfying contrast--Teddy doesn't. I still (yes, still) need to embark on my reread of the trilogy (Emily of New Moon is sitting on my dresser as I type), but although my memory could be deeply flawed and downright horrifically wrong (yes i'm still scarred about dean priest), I remember him being too similar to Emily, and more than that--being dull as dishwasher compared to all the other male characters, especially Perry!

Your ideas are very appealing because they make him protective of Emily haha, he needed something...more to his character. If I were writing Emily, although I do not pretend to have anywhere close to LMM's talent, I would probably just give her a love interest with an entirely different personality. What would that look like? I don't know! I do think that Teddy Kent was not a good foil to Emily Byrd Starr, and the book suffered for it (at least for me!)

#the best choice probably would have been to have Emily end up alone but I understand why LMM didn't do it #I for one would have been upset as a child haha #when I think of emily I think of someone who is sensitive and proud #perry was a good foil to her even tho I think they'd be a boring pairing because ilse exists #teddy was not

Alh*itham & K*veh relationship analysis (spoilers below)

I said before that Alh*itham holds a level of "resentment" for K*veh, but what I really meant was "contempt." It's the contempt you feel when you're pushed past the point of sympathy and pity. You see someone you care about that's in a bad state, but the thing is that they're ALWAYS in a bad state due to nobody's fault but their own. They go from pitying to pathetic and pitiful.

This line isn't because Alh*itham literally refuses to do good deeds. It's because giving into K*veh's nagging would only serve to enable his guilty conscience. K*veh's guilt is what pushes him to clean and do things. One would think that helping K*veh would help ease his guilt and ease his stress, but all that does is put a bandaid on a gaping wound. What K*veh needs to learn is simply to stop. Learn he doesn't need to clean. He doesn't need to do the errands. He doesn't need to be "good." He doesn't need to give. He doesn't need to DO. He can just BE and that's okay.

But K*veh doesn't learn. He doesn't catch the hint. He doesn't change. Then the thought comes, "Why should I care about someone that doesn't want to get better?" And the next thought, "But unfortunately I DO care, so this whole situation irritates me even more." Alh*itham can ignore K*veh for the most part, but the times he gets too much, Alh*itham's irritation and contempt begins to seep in and he gets more biting.

It confuses me why people pair these two together because they are not what the other person needs. K*veh needs care. He needs love. He needs reassurance. Alh*itham needs independence. He needs low maintenance. He needs stability. As of right now, they only make the other worse.

TIL that my right eye had gone haywire and shit

#story time! because im annoying #so today is my first day of clinical posting this semester and im posted to eye clinic #so we did our assessment (which the marks not as high as i expected) which are performing visual acuity test and instil eye drops #and when my friend did the visual acuity test on me my right eye vision is shit even when im wearing my glasses #it was 6/18 (which in the snellen chart i only managed to read until the 3rd row) #my left eye is okay and i thought i was tripping tbh #my ci thought my glasses' power increases as hell so she sent me to the low vision specialist part of the clinic #the ophthalmologist mention a medical condition idk the name and did the test like you would when you want to buy prescription glasses #the one where you wear a weird glasses and they keep on changing the lenses and ask you if its clearer or what #ANYWAY #turns out that when i was younger apparently the shop i made my glasses did the wrong prescription glasses #like my left eye was right but my right eye was wrong and it made my right eye turn to shit #so my power for my left eye is 300 while my right eye is 600+ #but they cant give me the 600 on my right eye because then it will autocorrect #like if i occlude my left eye i can see the it clearer but as a pair of glasses it will be hard to read as the words will merge and all #so what the glasses shop i got my latest glasses did is they balanced the power on each side so that i can see better #thats why when i did the visual acuity test my right eye is shit because my glasses is made that way to balance it #its a really good news though because i thought that i need to buy new glasses #he did mention that my 'silau' increases tho but that's fine #the more you know 👀 #personal.txt
