Magma event details!
Please check the rules below if you plan on joining our events!
A few words about Magma for newcomers:
Magma is a free browser based art program where participants can collaborate and draw on the same canvas at the same time! Magma works on both PC and mobile devices! Magma has most useful art program tools! But some are a little difficult to find, like layer opacity lock. You can export the images as PNGs and PSDs so you can save and keep all your layers etc.!
Hosting a session is easy! Set up a new canvas and share the link and that's it, you can start drawing. You can do public sessions like mine, or private sessions just with your close group. Update!! Previously you were able to use Magma anonymously without making an account, but this option does not exist anymore.
Our Magma event rules
Have fun! These events are meant to get you inspired, get to know other artists and create awesome art and ideas together!
Everyone is welcome to join my sessions! Doesn't matter where or when you join. You don't need to draw anything there, you can also just come and chat with us and watch others do their magic! Lurking is totally fine too!
Avoid drawing too big! Make sure to leave enough space for other people's drawings! Mind that there are 40-80 people partaking in these weekend events! (Max. 1/6th of the canvas per drawing is ideal!) We recommend to zoom in at 100-150% before you start drawing to avoid this. However! If you have an idea that others can contribute to, I'd be excited to hear it!! Those are highly appreciated!
Avoid drawing over the canvas frames! This is for possible future use in i.e. collages & personal aesthetics. They are there for a reason.
Keep it PG!
You are allowed to paste reference images in the session to use as a base etc.! Please remove them when you don't need them anymore and make sure not to cover areas where others are currently drawing!
When you are finished with your piece, please flatten your layers! The Magma total layer limit is 60 layers per canvas and it gets full rather fast. We have set a 8 layer limit per user/canvas. (If you have used layer effects in your piece, start flattening from bottom to top so they get preserved correctly!)
If you want to post/share Magma art that features other artists' works, you must ask for their permission first! This is very important!! Simple blur/solid color to hide them is ok, otherwise editing other people's art is not!
If you need more time to finish your piece, please let me know as soon as possible! If you know you aren't going to finish yours, please release the space for others to use!
Don't hesitate to ask anything! We are very happy to help out make the most of your session! Our regulars are all friendly and helpful, and my co-admin and mods are able to assist with i.e. getting your layers back!
Other tips!
Some users have experienced disasters losing layers for good by pressing CTRL + X, we recommend avoiding that for now!
Save regularly! Magma is a server based program so it's not as stable as your usual art programs, and also when the program refreshes you might lose some of your progress. Better saved than sorry! You can export the whole canvas as PNG, JPG & PSD!
You can have up to two Magma sessions open in your browser at once!
If you log out of the session you might lose rights to your layers. Please ask either the admin or approved users to give your layers back to you!
If Magma is going slow for you, it may be fixed by turning off the graphics accelerator. Go to Edit > Settings > Turn off Graphics Accelerator.
Merge layers with layer effects starting from bottom to top! For some reason Magma messes them up easily otherwise and the results will not look like you want.
Magma has a text chat we love to hang out in, it's of course optional but we would be happy to have you there!
You can send private messages to others by being on the same canvas with the receiver and clicking their icon!
Magma also has a voice call option. We prefer not to use it, but it's easy to misclick the button! Don't be alarmed!
We're continually figuring out new features and bugs in each session, I want to note down all of them to make the sessions as smooth and fun for you as possible! Let us know if you have any issues!
Also something notable: it's always well appreciated if you draw official Pokémon characters! Most of my followers are into submas or Pokémon in general so as the host I'd like to offer content most would enjoy! Some events welcome OCs but the free doodle session will always stay open for your characters!
After everyone is done I start post-processing the images. It may take a while until they are ready to be posted, please be patient! I will post the art on both my Twitter and Tumblr. You can use #jun's magma events for tagging your posts!
See you in our next event!! All aboard! <3

Perihelion Freed
My apologies to the original poster to whom I'm going to respond--I didn't catch your name or reblog your post when it came across my dash because I didn't expect to keep coming back mentally to your stance on Perihelion, free will, and the University's potential blind spot between their ship and their... discrete... work, out in the borderlands. I don't even know if it was a recent post or something that someone I follow reblogged. If you find me, hi!
Another blogger posited that Perihelion doesn't have free will, that things are hard-coded out of its mental architecture, and that the Newtideland crew may be hypocritical for using basically an enslaved ship to free basically slaves.
I'm not sure whether this was "a take on the idea" or whether it was "this is canonical and fucked up," so I apologize if you (cool previous blogger) were just investigating the concept!
It stuck with me, though, the idea that Perihelion (as opposed to The Perihelion, the ship+mind=entity that is akin to body+mind=soul) may or may not have free will, and how there's a lot more to investigate in the interactions if it doesn't, and the crew is either oblivious or "one must imagine Perihelion happy," and in a state of grace, as I believe the blogger mentioned.
Sure, there's a lot of mileage in "even the best have their blindspots," and the edges where what Peri does with and for Murderbot might run against its programming, and whether it would adjust its programming or whether it even could contemplate doing so.
But from my recall of the text, I don't believe the coding and architecture for enslavement is present in Peri.
It makes the choice to let MB on board because it IS bored: it is capable of boredom; if someone were to design an entity with specific reactions and capabilities, both the Bad Designers and Good Designers would skip the capacity for boredom and tedium, wouldn't they? To do otherwise is either pointless or cruel.
I guess you could say that boredom is the other side of the curiosity that Peri needs to help its crew and students with class and scientific endeavors, but that gets into the weeds about what is and is not programmable or required for specific emotions; we can't guarantee that you need one to have the other.
Peri chooses to accept MB, rather than actually being enticed and/or ignorant like a regular bot pilot. It chooses to help MB customize itself, messes with its recycler logs, and forges its captain's signature at least once; I can't imagine even the most Star Trek utopian creator, if able to lock in specifics to the point that an AI has personality and goodwill but not free will, would leave in operating code that would permit that sort of gross overstep (not that it was morally wrong, but it's something no one ever contemplates ART is capable of because--it shouldn't be?)
It lies by omission when it doesn't relate what KIND of construct MB is even when it chooses to tell its crew. giving MB privacy and opportunity that an enslaved AI might not be able to do (and after it went to the effort to change its logs, which makes me think it's choosing also to tell port authorities one thing and then choosing again to verbally tell its favorite people other things). It has a "debris deflection system" which comes off to me as... "using the label as robotically an as possible as another lie of omission" BECAUSE its intentions are beyond the scope of what it "should" be capable of doing/thinking... if it was a supercharged but enslaved AI.
The tabletop game Eclipse Phase has "AGI" that have to grow and be developed like people in order to BE proper people (metapossibly to lighten some of the strangeness between PC and player, since if you grow up in a simulation, you've got more in common with your player...).
There's nothing I can recall in TMB to indicate this is the case--we know MB is Athena, formed fully-shaped from cloned tissue, parts, and pre-trauma, but MB has no idea what ART is or how it could be the way it is--MB considers at one point that it might be a construct, but the vibe I get from ART is way too... glassily alien, sometimes, for human tissue.
What if... Newtideland laid down the basic code and parameters of "this is a person," maybe yes, seeded in some "curiosity," or "willingness to figure things out," but maybe no more than any kid starts with parents' nature and nuture to shape their own trellises...
And then they presented the thing-that-would-be-Peri with options, maybe even classes, and it coasted through History of Economy because this is a utopia, damnit, and didn't find much to grab its attention in... Inventory Management, but then.
Then it slips into a small drone ship completely covered in "student driver" stickers and it spreads its stubby sensors out to encompass... everything. And it moves, and the more it moves the more there is to move through, and it feels this sense of rightness.
It comes back, and a kid, human classmate, asks it what's it like out there and through Peri's eyes, but you don't have eyes--. It explains, and the kid asks a question that young-will-be-Peri doesn't know how to answer. They look it up together, and over time and all and once (as you might find in a sim) it has synergized its own career, its own goal and passions.
I posit that Perihelion has free will, serves WITH its crew rather than for its crew, and that its happiness and pleasure in its position and life are genuine, as they can only be if it can choose otherwise. We can conjecture a world in which the designer could be so granular in programming that ART is capable of all it can do while also unable to do what is locked out, and ignorant of the painful irony of using enslaved labor to free enslaved labor (which, again, is valid as an interpretation! ) but I think it is... important, that there might be a kinder, more star-spangled world, if the University comes from a world in which even bots truly, actually have freedom that MB doesn't see even after getting Preservation Station.
The Perihelion MUST have free will because
"You are incorrect, Iris, I can bomb the colony."

The Sims 4: Performance Resources
You cannot be lazy and want to have a modded Sims 4 game. This is how a lot of your games get messed up. You HAVE to keep up with patches and batch fixes of CC.
Also, have a decent knowledge about your computer and its specs so that you know your limitations.
(1) Remove any mods that are no longer supported or obsolete. Here is a website to check if mods are broken, compatible, updated, or obsolete (I realized that I did not post on my regular timeline):
(2) Here is a mod manager where you can view photos and delete mods. It also has a bunch of other features:
(3) For those who do not know how to detect sims 3 files in your sims 4 mods (they will prevent your game from starting and yes this still works -- I've use it monthly):
(4) When updating gameplay mods, ALWAYS delete the > localthumbcache.package < file found here: Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4 (PC)
(5) When downloading CC: unmerged > merged
(6) Program for batch fixing CC and so much more. I advise that you read through what they have on the website. (Required to have a user account)
(7) Clean your C drive of temp files and optimize it as well! This is a great "no fluff" video to help you out if you have never done it.

CSP 2.0 features test and rant
I bought my copy of CSP in 2022 due to a variety of Wacom-caused convoluted circumstances, meaning I get the "upgrade" to version 2.0 for free. So, because I enjoy talking about (and shittalking) digital art programs....my thoughts on the "upgrade." To summarize, this update is basically the same as various pre-2022 CSP updates, adding a handful of useful and some godly-sounding features. It doesn't change anything fundamental about the program, really, although allegedly background saves are faster and more reliable now (massive dick move to lock that behind a paywall!) On this PC, I really only get lag on background saves with huge files or if I haven't saved at all for hours, so I haven't really tested that aspect. Other features are: a new brush setting that allows for allegedly more realistic color mixing, a few new 3d model options, an AI auto-shading program, and ~*~align tools ~*~ which really should have been implemented like...five years ago minimum but hey. But, hey, are these features actually as ~life changing~ as Celsys makes them sound? Traditionally no but let's find out
Upon installation I was immediately greeted by said align tools. They were just...there.
Tumblr media
Fantastic UI decision I love it. Anyway I couldn't get this stupid window to be part of a sidebar, or treated as a tool, or anything except for a floating window. God knows why it has to be its own "palette" instead of being just a regular tool like liquify etc, but I ended up getting rid of it. figure I'll put it back whenever I need it. It seems to work fine, though in usual CSP fashion it is excessively complicated if reasonably easy to figure out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And now the new brush color mixing setting (new brushes on the right/bottom). This was the only feature I was personally really excited for. It's something of an improvement and feels a little closer to Krita's infinitely superior painting engines. There are replacements for nearly all of the "thick paint" default brushes, some pastels, and a few assorted others. The "wet wash" brush still lags horrifically at every size even on blank canvases, just fyi.
Tumblr media
The updated brushes have the "ver 2.0" tag. And I'm not sure if this was added in a recent update or my own faulty memory, but you can add multiple default brushes from the "add defaults" window now, thank god. I remember having to reopen the damn thing and add them one by one.
Tumblr media
I painted this Celica entirely using the new defaults (plus design pencil for the lineart and a custom watercolor for the background, but the painting is all the defaults.) It's definitely a step up, again it feels more like Krita which is my favorite program for painting. Is it worth the upgrade price, though? For me personally, not really.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The head model seems to work well enough, it has settings to let you adjust the features and seems nicer than the various user-made options on the asset store. That being said, using and manipulating the 3d assets is as obtuse and frustrating as ever, and I personally think they make my art look incredibly stiff and robotic, so idk if I'll be using this much.
Just to illustrate how little I use the models, apparently I didn't even have them installed. I had to redownload the entire default asset set to get my hands on them so I could test out the "hand pose" thing. Basically, CSP claims that you can take a picture of your hand and have the model instantly recreate that hand pose. It doesn't look like you can just...use an existing picture. Because that would be too useful. Get posing and upload yourself to the CSP AI instead.
No pictures, because I couldn't get a shot on my shitty webcam without my face in it, but it was unimpressive. The poses were...vaguely similar to the pictures, I guess, but not exactly the pinnacle of accuracy.
Tumblr media
This was a straight-fingered peace sign, for example. It's in the general realm of correct, but...not what I was aiming for.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I never use the text tool, for the record - I don't really do comics, and also I hate it. Even with the update, it is still not...good. Better than Krita's, maybe? At least by a bit. But still quite awful. And that's bizarre to me, because this is what was originally *manga studio*, used and promoted primarily by manga and comic artists. But its text tools suck, as well as its general graphic design capabilities.
Tumblr media
Trying out the new fog settings...it just looks like a gradient, honestly. I'm not sure why this would ever be helpful. School-live vibes from my little experiment here (i've never watched school-live lol)
Multilayer liquify actually works decently. There's a jolt of lag when you start it and at the end when your changes register, but the actual action of moving your cursor is fairly smooth, unexpectedly. I did it with a huge stack of layers and was pleasantly surprised by the results. That being said, liquify in CSP is really finicky, and even that little bit of lag might prevent it from being a consistently usable tool in my workflow. Not sure yet.
As for the AI shading assist....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I tried a bunch of old .csp drawings and the only one I could even get it to run on was the Eunie above. And it still looked like absolute shit no matter how I messed with the settings. I could have tried to do every layer individually but I just didn't have the patience for a feature I frankly don't want, AND that's not what it was advertised for so I don't see that as a valid test anyway. I just couldn't get this one working, it looks hideous, and I have no desire to have something be shaded for me automatically. Flatting, lineart cleanup, sure! Not the lighting and creativity and stuff that's actually fun! Hard pass.
There's also a fish-eye ruler. I don't see this ever being useful for me because I honestly don't like fish-eye perspective much. Meh.
So...yeah. That's all. That's the upgrade. It's not an impressive upgrade by any means, and clearly just a handful of assorted desirable features Celsys deliberately left out of the last year or so of updates in order to try and bill them as "2.0" now. No significant improvement to the base program, just assorted bells and whistles. And of course, even if you pony up for the flat upgrade fee, you do not get access to any new features going forward. Even if they finally drop a decent selection of filters or make the text tool workable, we plebians will have to pay if we want the goods. And get any features we don't continually pay for revoked.
Wait, how does that work? Yeah, Celsys has been incredibly bad at explaining their bizarre new plans. People have no idea what's going on -- they think CSP is sub-only now, that their copies of 1.0 will be revoked, that everyone's getting 2.0 for free, that they can pay for individual updates they want...nope. TLDR: You can pay a flat price to get version 2.0 now, either as a base program or an upgrade to 1.0. Users who bought 1.0 recently (roughly mid-2022 to 2023, I believe), like me, get that upgrade for free. Alternately, you can pay a yearly or monthly fee to get not only 2.0 but any other continuous upgrades Celsys rolls out between 2.0 and 3.0 (if, say, they add better filtering options or an automatic flatting tool, you must pay for the subscription to get them.) If you at any time end that subscription, ALL updates are revoked and you return to 2.0. 3.0 will be available eventually under the same system. Mmmm microtransaction art program (except worse, you can't even keep your microtransactions and this program ALREADY HAD microtransactions through premium assets to begin with! aaaaaaa why does ibispaint have a bad reputation and not this?)
Also, bear in mind that if you upgrade your 1.0 license to 2.0, you lose your 1.0 license immediately and permanently. 1.0 licenses are for two computers and 2.0 licenses are for one. Reddit confirms that you will be forced to uninstall from one computer if you upgrade the license. So if you have CSP installed on two computers, absolutely do not upgrade, you're essentially throwing away one copy of the program to add a small handful of mediocre features to your other copy. This might be one of the most disgusting parts of the whole deal, actually, because BOY they do not make this clear up front and their little stans are defending it tooth and nail.
So, what's the pricing plan for all this? Um...honestly, I'm not sure. I'm navigating the website right now trying to figure it out and I am totally, utterly lost. The plan is distributed across several pages, and I suspect Celsys is relying heavily on machine translation, so things are...slightly incoherent. I believe it's only $10/year for the PRO (not EX, which is $30) upgrade pass, which isn't unreasonable on the surface, but the "revoke features if you don't keep paying" bit sure is. Not to mention how many user-made assets will be inaccessible to those without the same versions as the creators, or how people's 2.1+ files may break if that person stops paying for their subscription...like, they don't deserve even $1 for pulling this shit and I'm really disappointed by the huge number of users I see not only buying into but defending this awful shit.
Celsys is clearly trying to be the next Adobe, gently easing their users into being forced to go fully subscription-only. We'll see how that works out for them, but I think they are drastically overestimating the loyalty of their userbase, the lack of alternatives, and their rate of use in the professional industry (unlike Adobe, nobody is mandating CSP in graphic design college courses....) They're slowly boiling the frog as we speak -- we'll see how long the userbase can stand it. Personally, I would suggest just waiting for 3.0 - nothing in this upgrade is exceptional, and I wouldn't assume anything else the devs put out for the next couple years is.
TLDR: mediocre update is mediocre, fuck celsys

Art programs you have but don't use
Do you eat/drink when drawing? if so, what
Do you use different layer modes
1. I only have one art program on my PC and that's Photoshop. I tried SAI but for some reason I couldn't get the pen pressure and tablet to work properly for it, so I just stick to Photoshop which I've been using for the last 11 years.
2. Yes! I drink tea (mostly regular tea but I'll also drink green tea or a herbal tea like lemon and ginger) but I often forget about it and it gets cold. ;_; I don't usually eat when I'm drawing however I might have some biscuits with my tea or some other small snack.
3. I do; multiply (for shading), screen (for highlights but turn the opacity way down), soft light and overlay (for lighting effects).

hi i seen your post about pkmn just do pkmn things and if you havent already you should watch the PokeToons on the official pokemon youtube channel! my favourite is " Help! Ive turned into a Gengar" its honestly so cute and you can see the ghost pkmn being menaces ❤❤ and on the " Pokemon Kids TV channel" theres actually a really cute thing i watched were a dude cooks and he has his pokemon just doing everyday things its SO cute! that series is "Pokemon Sweets Paradise" i highly recommend them ! thats on the pkmn kids tv channel
Hello! And yeah, that post was a lot of fun and I just LOVE seeing what people have to add on it, and I always love more of that kind of thing so I went ahead and I just watched the first three poketoon episodes! Blossom's dream is my definite favorite so far! Her mom looks kinda like cheren from BW lol. One, it's just wonderful seeing pokemon do pokemon stuff like you said- I love when they lean more heavily into the 'pokemon are animals' thing. But two, I adore the different art styles they're messing with. From the first one with Scraggy being very reminiscent of older american cartoons like that cuphead game was, with physical comedy/slapstick and no words, to the pancham one with its more geometric, 3D cel-shaded sorta style (you can see that they used 3d models in some areas, with this tree below especially, which looks out of an indie pc adventure game),-
Tumblr media
- to the blossom one where the style is somewhere between twilight wings and the regular anime! I spent half the time watching with my sister just pausing it and pointing out the different artistic things they were doing, like where I could see overlay effects or where I could see what kind of brushes they were using. Like down here, you can see a rougher brush was used in favor of a normal hard round brush for the lighting. In my art program there's a few dry bristle brushes that have a similar effect! I know you told me about this because of the pokemon-animal aspect of it but honestly, the art experimentation is what's really kept me hooked on every last frame! They use watercolor brushes and hard brushes and rough ones and it's just so refreshing and fun to watch, seeing them blend textures in a way they don't really budget for in the usual anime.
Tumblr media
At first I kind of wrote off the poketoons as more aimed at younger kids (which, ironic given that my blog is based around pokeani but you know what I mean), but honestly? I'm enjoying watching these more than most normal episodes! Thank you so much for telling me to watch them and giving me that push! I'll come back with any thoughts on later episodes if I have them! Also. Random Solidad encounter at the 7-11.

Day 77
Tumblr media
How Atari led me to podcasting and then content strategy.
It was GAME OVER after connecting the family video game console to the television – THAT's where it all started. My interest in technology has evolved over the years, but it's been there since the Atari 2600 era.
When mom went to the nearest Walmart, I'd always ask to go to the electronics section. I'd stare at all of the things in awe: the 75Ω to 300Ω antenna adapters, the speaker wire, the blank tapes. I later graduated to going to the Radio Shack store that was in the strip mall a few doors down from the Walmart. That place blew my mind.
At age 14, I had subscriptions to Stereo Review and Audiophile magazine. When my great aunt passed away, my mom used a portion of the inheritance to buy me a Sherwood receiver and CD player from J&R Music World. Soon I was big into car audio, and built a 500-watt stereo system for my 1986 Mustang that cost more than the car itself. (I still miss that stereo, and that car.)
It was on that car stereo that I heard a public radio station for the first time. In a year I would be working there. A few years later, I was at PRI, Public Radio International.
There's a parallel interest in computers throughout all of this. We didn't have one at home, but I was well versed in the school's Apple computers. First it was the Apple IIe computers with the green screens, then a Macintosh Plus. I went to college and bought my first PC with a dial-up modem. Internet!
While at PRI on the client relations team, we sold public radio programs and content management systems to stations all across the country. I got deeper into the technology side as a result, and starting conducting regular lunch-and-learn sessions about the things I learned. I started my content-ment.com blog around this time, focusing on technology and public broadcasting.
This didn't go unnoticed; I became a go-to person for new media/social media. Some of the blog posts gained some traction, and I was featured in the book "Curation Nation" by Steven Rosenbaum.
PRI created a new position, Senior Manager of Interactive Marketing, and they put me in it. This job (number 17) was a dream come true. I set up their social channels, ran the network's very first online fundraising campaign, and curated an Arts and Entertainment podcast back in 2008 way before it was cool. We launched a brand-new PRI website from wireframes to CMS, and had our stories featured in cool places like Yahoo News. I presented at a conference about it all, even.
Content strategy was just starting to emerge as a discipline towards the end of my tenure at PRI. I had a realization, like so many other people working on online content: "Oh, the thing that I do has a name? It's called content strategy? OK, COOL."
And another change was on the horizon...

tweakbit driver updater should i remove it
There would be a lot of how to solve the problems that can arise when your USB isn't recognized. Everyone wants to find a way to use their peripherals smoothly; and we're all aware of just how irritating might be when a keyboard or mouse malfunctions because of undetectable USB device. That's okay, because there's a laundry list of solutions you're able to employ to repair these issues. Let's go over tweakbit driver updater Crack of methods. When I plugged unit fitted in, Windows installed an easy keyboard individual. While I could type, and many the regular keys worked normally, Some have accessibility extra keys until I installed the correct driver for my key pad. Whenever you add new hardware or software for one's computer, you have to compliment them by ensuring that you develop the most up-to-date drivers. If not, then either increased purchases or your old drivers will operate - or both. Simply put, a motorist is your computer program that permits devices (i.e. your keyboard, mouse, motherboard, video and sound cards) to communicate with each other. As technology develops, so do drivers. For instance, if you are to and keep it where new graphic game for your PC, it might not be able to work simply when your Realtek driver is outdated and it can't technologically aid the new state-of-the-art game. If you're still dealing along machine within detect your USB device, you tweakbit driver updater can invariably try the old-fashioned course. Power off the computer, disconnect the USB device, and turned off the circuit breaker (for a desktop) or extract the battery (for a laptop.) Allow all of these devices to remain off and unplugged for between ten and fifteen minutes. After this time has elapsed, restart your pc. Once it restarts, it should easily detect your USB drive. If you do not fix them, you can offer to using crackling speakers, static, or no sound at a lot of. Here are tweakbit driver updater Torrent for sound problems, and the to resolve them. If sometimes out of one's speakers come little cracks, or if sound is lagged, or anything unusual happens for the music, there is no need for you to become scared that either your hardware or speakers/headphones is the hellion. Along with driver search, find an update and install it's. Then reboot and attempt again. Now, everything must be OK. Also I wonder if you have any tips in doing animation or keeping a flow in cartoon artwork? Your style is just so zany and expressive and I want to be on that level one day!! Thanks for being a huge inspiration to me <3
dude literally thank you so much this is so sweet!!! i really needed this today😭😭<3
as for programs and tablet/computer and all that, I use just a regular laptop, a wacom cintiq 16, and adobe animate cc!
ok so!! one really good way to give more flow to your work and to make it look... better?? in a cartoon way?? would be to STUDY CARTOONS!! i dont see anyone saying this but it REALLY helps a lot. if you really like the way a certain cartoon looks, you should study it! it's really helped me transition from semi-realism to full time cartooning, and also just develop my style a lot more! i hope this helped!!

Scripting tutorial for Tags and Captions
I often mention that I use a AutoHotkey scripts for adding the tags and captions to all my uploads, and in this post I will explain how I actually do it.
Getting started:
First of all, this tutorial only works with a windows PC. I don’t know of any equivalent programs like this for Mac, Linux or mobile.
Step one is downloading the “current version” of the program: AutoHotkey and install it. Now you can get started with scripting.
You can write scripts in any text editior, I personally would recommend Notepad++ but window’s regular notepad will do the job just fine.
Creating a Script:
To write your first script, simply right click on your desktop and select “New > AutoHotkey script, then right click on the new file and select “edit script”. Alternatively you can just create a “.txt” file and change the file extension to “.ahk”.
A newly created AHK script will already have a few lines of text in it, for a script as simple as the one we’re writing you can ignore that text.
Please note: anytime you make a change to your script you have to save and reload it for the changes to take effect.
A much more detailed Explanation for how to get started can be found here
Hotkeys and Hotstrings
This is what a normal hotkey command looks like:
F6:: Sendinput, hello Return
In this case, the F6 key is the hotkey, designated as such by the “::” behind it. In the next line we have the actual command that get’s triggered by the hotkey, in this case it is “Sendinput,” which will send whatever text you put behind it, in this case “hello”, you can also send other key presses by putting them into these: {} brackets, for example adding {space} which will have the same effect as you pressing the space bar.
Please note: anything you want to send with the sendinput command needs to be in the same line as the command itself. “Return” tells the script that whatever action your hotkey is supposed to perform ends here which allows you to add the next hotkey or whatever in your script.
I would also recommend to add a modifier key such as control or alt to your hotkeys so you can still use the keys original function. To use alt as a modifier key simply add a exclamation point to your hotkey like this: !F6::  Now this hotkey will only trigger if you press alt and F6 at the same time.
A much more detailed Explanation for hotkeys and modifier keys can be found here Hotstrings  Hotstrings basically work the same as Hotkeys with the main difference that you use a word or phrase to trigger the a command instead of a key. This is what it looks like: ::wha:: Sendinput, Witch Hat Atelier Return
Your trigger phrase or word get’s designated by putting “::” in front of it and behind it. The command will trigger as soon as you hit the space bar or the enter key once you’ve written the word or phrase, however it will not trigger if you just keep writing, so for example if you write “what” instead of “wha” the command will not trigger.
There are many, MANY commands other than “Sendinput” you can trigger, but for now, this is all we need for what we’re trying to do.
A much more detailed Explanation for hotstrings can be found here
Tagging and caption script for tumblr
This is a simplified version of what my command for captioning and tagging Berserk posts looks like, Berserkk with double k is the trigger word so this command doesn’t trigger every time you write the word Berserk:
::berserkk:: sendinput, Source: Berserk / ベルセルク {enter}by Kentaro Miura{tab}Berserk{enter}Kentaro Miura{enter}Manga and Stuff{enter}Mangacap{enter}Manga{enter}Art{enter}
Return
Please note: everything after “sendinput” needs to be in the same line, tumblr’s formatting just added line breaks.
And this is what the result of this command looks like:
Tumblr media
And here with a visual explanation what all these {words} did
Tumblr media
And that’s basically it...
AutoHotkey is an immensely powerful program and it can do much more elaborate stuff than tagging your tumblr posts, but you’ll have to learn that yourself.
Some resources:  -AutoHotkey documentation -AutoHotkey help forum -AutoHotkey subreddit
I really hope this tutorial is somewhat clear and understandable, I’ve tried to keep it as short and on point as possible.

Librarians, Start New Game
November-December 2019, American Libraries Magazine
For librarians at universities with videogame design programs, maintaining a large, accessible gaming collection isn’t a Final Fantasy. It’s a Call of Duty. Beginning a collection may be as easy as pressing start to play, but storing and preserving complex materials is a tough battle—and academic librarians want to level up.
The University of Michigan’s (UM) Computer Video and Game Archive (CVGA) in Ann Arbor boasts more than 8,000 videogames and 60 consoles dating back to the 1970s. “Because we have such a large collection, there are many examples from which to pull and get inspiration, things [students] would never be able to afford on their own,” says David Carter, videogame archivist at UM. “Almost nobody has a collection this big, especially a college student.”
“[People] don’t think of libraries as a destination for digital scholarship,” says Anne Morrow, associate librarian and head of digital scholarship services at the University of Utah’s J. Willard Marriott Library, which has more than 500 videogames and serves almost 400 game design students. “There’s an incentive to see what the obstacles are for bringing these types of original work into the collection.”
Objective: playability
As the owner of more than 2,000 commercial games, 300 student games, and 40 consoles (some as old as the 1985 Nintendo Entertainment System), the University of California, Santa Cruz’s (UCSC) Science and Engineering Library prioritizes authentic playability. Its goal is to provide students with not only a game but also the console it was made for, a compatible controller, and an era-appropriate TV to play it on.
With so many moving pieces, says Christy Caldwell, science and engineering librarian at UCSC, “providing usage of increasingly ‘antique’ [materials] is an ongoing challenge.”
UM has the same goal. “We don’t have to do a lot of tracking down, thankfully,” says Valerie Waldron, UM computer and videogame archive manager. About half of its collection is donated, and as with other academic libraries that own game collections, staffers turn to eBay if they need to repair or buy a missing item. Or they get creative.
“Something broke on our Atari 7800, and we actually 3D-printed a replacement part,” Carter says.
Why is maintaining playability of older games important? Students are mainly studying design and software. “What does the game look like, and what does the controller feel like?” Caldwell says. “Are you seeing something similar to what someone who played the game earlier would have seen and experienced?”
Students are also looking at artwork, game mechanics, subjects, and even source code as inspiration for their own games. “They’re using [archives] for competitive intelligence, and looking at what’s been done already,” says Tallie Casucci, assistant librarian at Marriott Library.
Space is another issue. At Marriott Library, students must go to different floors to pick up a videogame, grab a console and matching controllers, and actually play, since the stations are separated and require checkouts for loss prevention. “It’d be nice to have everything all in one place,” Casucci says.
In Ann Arbor, the CVGA houses both the collection and spaces to play the games on consoles, since the collection doesn’t leave the library. “It’s a very crammed room,” Carter says.
Save game?
UM staffers say they have two missions: to serve the teaching and research needs of faculty and students in order to promote usage of the games, and to preserve those games. “There’s an inherent tension. Usage is the enemy of preservation,” Carter says. “Academic usage trumps preservation. We don’t want to have something just to have it and not let people use it.”
After students from the Entertainment Arts and Engineering program at Utah lost all the materials for Erie, a popular student-made game from 2012, Casucci and Morrow investigated their options. With help from an Institute of Museum and Library Services grant, they published an ebook this fall on how to best archive, preserve, and disseminate student videogames.
“People have been looking at digital preservation seriously, [but] we haven’t made progress with objects that are really complex, like videogames, that have many interactions between files,” Morrow says. “We thought about the existing services in a library and how games might be supported by those services.”
“In our case, it would be the sheer number of analog games to process and store that would be difficult, especially year after year,” Caldwell says. “You’re asking people in cataloging who have never even played a game to suddenly start cataloging media. You need to support them.” The best way to do that, she says, is to develop accurate metadata and consistent, detailed cataloging practices.
But academic libraries still need to strategize.
At Marriott Library, Casucci and Morrow created a tiered retention system for archiving student games, through which students can choose the process that best suits their needs. In earlier tiers, students can contribute visuals such as screenshots or game trailers. As they go further into the system, students can contribute their games in their entirety, allowing future students complete access to its features.
Commercial games have not been forgotten. Carter and Waldron are finding ways to preserve legacy formats of videogames like floppy disks and cartridges. “We’re trying to discover ways of taking the game off its original format and creating an image for it,” Waldron says. “There are still a lot of things to work out, like how to store it properly, retrieve it, or put it back in its original format.” As for regular discs, UM keeps multiple copies and stores them in archival-quality sleeves behind the circulation desk.
According to Heather Maxwell Chandler’s Game Production Handbook, after producing a videogame, developers organize the game’s source assets and archive them in a closing kit—a common practice in the industry to help developers install updates or patches to their games. UCSC would like to implement closing kits down the line.
“The faculty wants to have a record of what students have created,” Caldwell says. “They want students to be inspired by what other students have done and build on that work.”
Carter and Waldron say that videogame preserving and archiving has been underdeveloped in libraries because it is still an emerging format. “Until recently, the history of the videogame industry has been left in the hands of private collectors,” Carter says. “Not to discount the work that private collectors have done—that’s one portion of preservation, but you need academic libraries in the mix.”
“For a long time, [game companies] weren’t really interested in preserving their games, either,” Waldron says. According to Kotaku, this is due to legal gray areas, lack of industry support, and turnover of games. “I think that’s slowly starting to change.”
Conquering copyright issues
Potential copyright problems exist in every layer of videogame collecting, especially regarding older materials with expired copyrights. In October 2018, a decision from the Library of Congress and US Copyright Office allowed institutions to lawfully own copies of older videogames if they were acquired from the original companies in order to make preservation copies—a separate challenge for librarians and archivists as many companies are no longer in business or have discontinued server support.
“Assuming that all videogames are governed by terms of use, it’s likely that any exceptions one would expect in the copyright law are not allowed,” says Carrie Russell, senior program officer and copyright specialist at the American Library Association. “If students are doing close analysis of the games or something similar, it’s likely that license terms don’t forbid just studying and researching the game unless the research involves the need to circumvent digital rights management (DRM) that may be employed by the rights holder.”
DRM is a form of copyright protection licensing for digital media implemented by embedding code that prevents copying, specifying a time period in which content can be accessed, or limiting the number of devices content can be installed on. For example, games with expired or maxed-out licenses may not be library friendly.
Another consideration is that certain PC games come with keys—a string of unique characters—that a user must input in order to play. “But then that [game] is registered, and it’s only good for one use,” Carter says. “If someone donates a PC game to us, if they’ve used the key, we can’t use that game. We have to somehow get another key.”
Currently, libraries’ and archives’ rights to preserve videogames are allowed under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. “That exemption, however, will expire in 2021 and need to be requested again,” Russell says.
Student-made videogames are easier to preserve since students get to decide what university libraries can keep. The student work that libraries archive mostly consists of digital files. They can either archive the entire game or different elements of it, like an abstract, artwork, or gameplay footage.
“We never make the students put up everything,” Caldwell says. “They could say, ‘I don’t want to upload my actual code. I’ll upload my abstract.’”
Students can claim complete copyright of their games or use a Creative Commons license, which allows others to share, use, and build on their work. They can even decide if they want their work to be available to university affiliates or the public.
Librarians, too, try to educate students about the importance of archiving their work at the library, studying other games, and how copyright plays into both. “You have to believe that [students] are going to use [the collection] responsibly,” Caldwell says.
Next-level libraries
Librarians agree they’re just beginning to assimilate game scholarship into academic libraries; progress will continue as the industry and programs evolve.
Caldwell says librarians should be working collaboratively to keep games accessible by lobbying for copyright law exceptions, partnering with game companies, and improving metadata and catalog descriptions.
“Games are to the 21st century what films were to the 20th,” she says. “How long did it take libraries to start collecting film? I think what we can do is start working together sooner, because we’ve already lost so many games.”
UM also wants to encourage students who may not be game design majors to help normalize videogames in the library. “In humanities or social science classes, instead of writing a paper, students are creating games,” Carter says. “We’ve been working with the design lab [at UM] to figure out ways to support the lighter-weight aspect of game creation.”
“[Games are] a part of society,” Waldron says. “It speaks to what our culture is in any given era, like any other format.”

hi seo! this may sound like a dumb question but at my high school we don't really need laptops at school (they prefer handwritten stuff) so ive been able to get along wif my acer chromebook. i was wondering if i should invest in an iPad or a laptop for later on? i see iPads all over studyblr/ studytube, but at the same time, i don't want to waste money on an iPad if im going to be buying a laptop anyway. Thank you!
no matter what everyone else says, a laptop will always have more versatility, regardless of it being windows or mac (unless if it’s....linux or a chromebook lol), in terms of programs available to download and use. if you’re tight on a budget (which almost all college students are), then the laptop will give you a bigger bang for your buck. the PC version of programs like microsoft office products, adobe creative suite, etc will be more powerful and versatile compared to their mobile version. some programs just aren’t available on the app store. the web versions of programs are just terrible as-is + that’s exacerbated on the ipad.
handwritten notes can always be taken on paper, and if you’re that desperate to keep a digital handwritten version, you could scan it. you could also type up digital notes on your laptop, and i find that typing is far easier on a laptop compared to the ipad, even if you have a keyboard for your ipad, because the keyboard on a laptop is larger. also, from my experience as a windows user, i find that my apple products have a shorter longevity, both in terms of software updates + eventual program incompatibility and hardware.
i will entirely admit that it is easier to carry all my notes around on a single device compared to carrying around multiple notebooks. it’s nice to import images into my notes every now and then. i can also see how artists and illustrators and animators who regularly use art programs on the ipad can make good use out of it, but i am not an artist. the most i use my ipad for in terms of art is making graphics for my channel, and that is the only way i’m justifying my continued use of my ipad instead of calling it a complete waste. but was my ipad pro + apple pencil worth hundreds and hundreds of dollars just for taking notes? nah, i’d rather re-invest that into my college debt.
if you still really want an ipad, try going for the regular ipads instead of an ipad pro if you’re just planning on using for taking notes. if you’re an active, full-time artist or going to art/animation school or smth like that, you’ll probably get better use out of the ipad pro.

How do you manage your cc for a less laggy game ?
Hellooo! Ok so the main things to worry about when making your game less laggy would be managing and organizing your CC. I always make sure to have my CC organized, compressed and merged for max efficiency. Organizing your game all depends on your own preferences but you should at least have separate categories for the different types of CC you have. I organize mine by Mods, Hair, Makeup, Clothing, Accessories, skin, etc. But it all depends on how you prefer to organize things. Organizing your CC into categories allows you to know what’s in your game and how to take it out if needed. This will be kinda long so here we go...
I organize my CC in both regular folders on my computer (so I have a backup)and in the program CC Magic. CC Magic can help you organize your CC, make and manage collections for ingame use, and remove and add CC whenever you want. But most importantly it can merge your CC for you so that you don’t have to do it manually with S3PE. Merging is very important because it means less files for your game read which means faster loading times and smoother gameplay. You can find CCMagic HERE and an introductory tutorial HEREAnother way I manage my CC is I NEVER use the EA launcher unless I’m installing a pattern, EA store content or a world. The launcher is just...its stressful and I hate it lol. If I want to install CC that is in .sims3pack I turn it into a .package file with the Sims 3 Pack Multi-Extractor. You can do the same with houses but the steps are just a bit different. For houses, the extractor will export the house and all its CC so you need to know which package file would be the house. For that I use Sims 3 Custard which let’s you look into and manage .sims3pack files. The first file you see in custard will always be the house. So you when it is extracted, take that file, rename it to whatever you want and then stick it in the Sims 3 Library folder under Electronic Arts. The rest of the CC from the house you can install like regular package files and you’r done. You can find the Sims 3 Pack Multi-Extractor HERE and The Sims 3 Custard Program HERE
The last important thing I can think of would be COmpressing your CC. Compressing your CC makes your pacakge files ass small as possible. It rids the package files of any unneeded things within them, making the toll easier on your game.
You can Find The Compressorizer Redux HERE
I hope this helps you some 💕 I’ll drop a few other tutorials to non-cc related tips that have helped me below
Alverdine sims Reshade Tutorial - Linked because even if the main shaders are too much for your PC to handle, using at least one of its AA (Anti-Aliasing) settings helps the game run faster becuas you can turn off the in-game one lol
Alverdine Sims tutorial for Borderless Gaming in windowed mode - Windowed mode is so much easier for me and this allows you to use it with no taskbar or window-border so your game has full resolution.
Also, @sims3tutorialhub is a HUGE resource for tutorials of any kind. If you’re looking to learn to make CC or just find out how to edit something aboutyour game this is a good place to start. They even link all their resources for the things you will need in their tutorials!
