while all are welcome at the temple of the god tash, the immediate royal family is expected to pay a bloody homage to the diety as it is his ancestry that gives them the right to rule. a spindle stands in the doorway of each of his places of worship, and those of his blood must return it to him, pricking their finger and letting a drop pool in a golden dish resting below. it’s said that the sacrificial blood left in that font never truly dries, as it is divine. ( skeptics whisper that it’s simply rehydrated with essential oils by tash’s apostates throughout each day. )

I havent talked much about the train in Idola just because it's. worthy of a lot of content warnings. While the entire pantheon does not spend time on it, some of the bigger players of it do. So there's a LOT of influence. If you're not a god, you'd just end up attending to them. People want to get ON the train because they think it's a nice life, and on some level it is better than within the world itself. At least it's something stable, you know you'll have food on the table. But also, any human is kinda at the whim of the gods. It's a suffocating place to be.
I haven't talked a lot about the gods in general, but they're all shapeshifters. Mythology of them is kinda fluid, and changes over time with some nudging from the gods themselves.

saw a post where someone was complaining that after getting back into as0iaf/got, they remembered they didnt miss the 'discourse' about 'if a character is worse than the other or not' and if its 'morally bad to like them' and they said like
w as0iaf specifically, it barely even matters bc almost every single person in the story has done something terrible and im like
maybe. just. MAYBE thats just bc its just written bad and grrm is a fucking weirdo. have u thought of that.

"Yes. The Cocknad." He's well aware of the allusion to genitalia— and that's exactly why the moniker's so loved by many, many Angels back at home.

i have decided that beau & vis are not the same age ! vis is from the very first wave ( the day vahymn made the island & the vyotous ) where as beau was from the second wave ; about 300 years after . so when beau & vis first meet their ages are : vis ( ~450 ) & beau ( 150 ) .
bouns : clara is from the third & final wave that happened only 100 years ago . that they started working for vis at a young age , perhaps 20 ? they were about 50 when beau came into the picture ( also i found clara’s og concept sketches & their pronouns are they / them so imma be fixing the bio to correct that & going forward will be using the correct pronouns )

because of the natural, supernatural allure the nephilims give off, they are essentially (& unintentionally) beacons for other supernatural creatures - including but not limited to vampires, djinn, & demons. like in tvd w/ vamps & doppelgangers iirc, vamps essentially become entirely, unhealthily obsessed with nephilim blood because of the magical properties their blood has (healing, strength, & it Tastes better to vamps, bx of the angelic grace a nephilim has, etc).

because her mother and the tisroc are so often at odds, sahar and her elder brother are often used as pawns by hadi to get back at his elder sister. after rabadash was transformed into an ass, char was given the position of cupbearer, as it was assumed there would be more poisoning attempts against the prince after being made such an embarrassment. sahar, in a similar vein, is often offered the opportunity to be sent to narnia as a handmaiden to spread peace between the nations

If there's another trolls movie and or special, what do you think it or they will be about?
So what I Think a 4th trolls movie would be about and what I Want a 4th trolls movie to be about are two totally separate things so I'll just tell you both lol What I would like: Bring Barb back. please. please pl Bringing back any of the characters from world tour would be rlly cool actually. I'd also love to see more of the Funk Trolls and their future tech environment. imo I think it'd be cool if the next trolls movie leaned a little more sci-fi !! trolls in space would be a cool thing to explore. Maybe have a larger than life foe threatening their world and it could have a message about being seemingly small and insignificant but there being strength in numbers and friendship or whatever lol As for a special though, I'd love a Barb-centric spinoff or adventure with Poppy or Viva or honestly any other troll(s). But I'm biased bc she's my favorite and I think as a character has a lot of potential now that she's one of the "good guys". It would also be neat if they did a Valentines or Halloween special (it doesnt have to be those Exact holidays but something trolls-specific that's similar). What I Think they'll Actually do: An interview Walt Dohrn said that if they do end up making a trolls 4, they already have plans for "new locations and new characters", meaning I Think each trolls movie is just gonna take the main characters (literally just poppy and branch. maybe tiny for comic relief) to another place and the already beyond crowded cast of characters is just going to keep growing. Nevermind expanding on already existing lore or worldbuilding or characters, check out the new guys that we're gonna shove half the cast to the side to make room for !! I'm honestly just being bitter about this approach bc I feel like they have a Lot of stuff to work with already that they're more than likely going to ignore in favor of whatever new stuff they can cram in. I liked Brozone and Viva and Velvet and Veneer, don't get me wrong, but I wasn't a fan of how None of the characters from world tour had a role, and they even cast aside the rest of the snack pack (Smidge wasn't even in tbt and that really surprised me). In a podcast Cooper's voice actor also expressed disappointment that he wasn't going to have a real role in this movie, despite it being entirely about long lost family (something you'd think Cooper, having a long lost sibling of his own, would be a part of), and said that they called him in to do only a few lines, said they'd call him back for more, and never did. So YEAH big tldr is that idk what specifically they're going to do, but it's almost a guarantee that they're gonna clutter the movie with more characters and places instead of building on established material. also there will probably be a broppy wedding bc of course there will be.

How’s synth doing in the tdau? I love the guy and all we got was he does charity streams and was in a lesbian relationship with branch.
Give the little fish guy more love or drama, he’s pretty unproblematic though, unless you’ve been planning, then I’m scared, but honestly I’m always scared when I see you’ve posted
synth was NOT in a lesbian relationship with branch. synth is a gay man. it was referencing this legendary tweet
Tumblr media
what happened was synth very briefly had feelings for branch bc he thought branch was a guy, and branch thought synth was cute bc he thought synth was a lesbian (this was before branch and poppy made their relationship official at the end of tbt)
but yeah, hes very sweet and really does mean the best. he IS our unproblematic king. we currently dont have anything planned for synth, but we have... lets say........ worldbuilding. that puts a different light on why he doesnt live in techno reef anymore

Contains Spoilers
Well. Where to start with these two, hmm?
Tumblr media
James was such a divisive character when I first started getting reader feedback. Admittedly, the original version of him was a lot less likeable and a lot more whiny, but once he got fleshed out I actually started to like him. I mean, at this point in time we’ve all experienced some level of lockdown, and it’s done things to us — imagine how weird you’d be if you spent half your life shut in a room with only your mother and some scary armed guards for company! Can you blame him for latching onto Cat as quickly as he does?
Evidently, Fox can, yes. Writing that jealousy was so satisfying, after so much time spent writing Fox refusing to admit any kind of care for Cat, picking fights with her at every opportunity. His flirting vibe is a strong ‘any attention is good attention’, which I would not recommend outside of YA novels. But there’s nothing that gets a romance subplot moving quite like throwing in a challenger. I’ll have more to say about James, especially towards the end of the book, but needless to say I don’t blame you if you hated him immediately.
Tumblr media
The whole thing with James and Mary does also lull everyone into a bit of a false sense of security, which then gets ripped away with the discovery at the end of chapter sixteen.
I know. It’s grim.
That was the part that made every single early reader exclaim in horror in their feedback notes. It also made my mum quite worried for the internal workings of my brain for a while, which, fair.
It was also a lot more graphic in its original incarnation. I maybe went a little overboard on the body-horror descriptions, and — rightfully so — was told that I had to reel it in a little or we’d never be allowed to market the book to children.
Tumblr media
But I’ve never had a complaint from an actual child reader about it. Kids love the gore and the horror and the creep-factor. That’s clear in all kinds of media created for children — and in the number of kids who read Stephen King novels at a way too young age and are forever changed by that.
Whenever I’ve been asked by an adult if my books are suitable for their kid to read, I have always replied ‘it doesn’t have anything worse than the Hunger Games, so if you let them read that, they’ll be fine’. And I stand by that. There is some seriously messed up shit in the Hunger Games trilogy, which is way darker than anything I’ve written. But there’s always that small part of me guiltily wondering if this person’s child is going to get to the part with all the dismembered children and be utterly traumatised and the person will remember my recommendation and curse my name forevermore.
Ah, well.
It’s weird how vividly I can remember writing parts of this book; specifically, the parts that I had no idea were going to happen until I was about to start writing them. I wish I could properly explain the amount of chaotic galaxy-brain moments that existed in the process of writing this — I literally spent weeks beforehand writing endless notes on the worldbuilding, but had a vague idea of the plot and threw myself into it with no clue how it was going to go. James and Mary didn’t exist until I wrote Cat and Fox at the top of the spiral staircase. The room full of failed experiments didn’t exist until the scene right before they find the locked door. At that point, all I was after was things to break up the relative monotony of writing two people sneaking around a building and having to hide and eavesdrop on people. A simple thought of ‘how do I make this more interesting’ ended up filling in half of the plot going forward.
I’m not that chaotic with my writing anymore. Mostly. I still leave a lot of holes for the potential ideas that might crop up during the writing process, and I categorically never plan an ending in detail because by the time I get there I can guarantee I’ll have gone wildly off-script, but I don’t leave as much in the middle up to fate as I did while writing TBtS.
Sometimes I marvel that this book actually made sense when it was finished. God bless editing.
See you tomorrow for more chaos, friends.

Headcanon: Ylissean Cavalry
Disclaimer: While I am fine with this post being reblogged by any who may be interested, this post is based around the author’s assumptions/interpretations/headcanons regarding the genealogy (pun intended) of the Exalt line; specifically, that Chrom, Lucina and the other members of the Ylissean royal family are in some way descendants of the Chalphys, the main protagonists of Fire Emblem 4. As such, some parts of this headcanon may alienate with those who do not share this belief, so please keep that in mind if you consider reblogging this post.
Spoilers are unmarked but confined under the cut:
As a nation that seemingly presents itself as a successor state to the ancient Kingdom of Altea and the Holy Kingdom/Empire of Archanea - and by extension, the United Kingdom of Archanea-, Ylisse would naturally seek to follow the example of these ancient kingdoms; much of the ancient culture of Archanea seems to remain intact- Marth is still revered as the legendary Hero-King, for starters, and Falchion and the Fire Emblem, the national treasures of the old Holy Kingdom, are still treated as such by the time of Awakening 2,000 years after the War of Heroes. Marth, however, is not the only legend that is still passed down; Stahl and Sully’s Support chain outright discusses Cain and Abel, using both their names and nicknames of ‘the Bull’ and ‘the Panther’ respectively.
However, such stories are used not only as motivators for knights or entertainment for children, but have also been incorporated into the training methods of Ylissean knight orders. Traditionally, knights are trained in pairs- larger units have been trained in the past if there is a shortage of instructors or mentors, but none larger than 5 or 6 per unit: apsiring knights are assigned a set of armour of a specific colour, a role or title based upon their capabilities- typically the ‘Bull’ or ‘Panther’ of their unit- and a matching partner of the opposite role, with whom recruits will train and serve with as their primary partner up to and after their knighthood- alongside a senior officer or more experienced knight as a mentor, following the ideal set by Sir Jagen. Furthermore, any knight that wishes to rise in the ranks of the military faster may do so by proving their dedication through training new cadets of their own, inspired by Sir Cain’s instructorship of the 7th Platoon of Altean Knights prior to the War of Heroes. These methods and stories exist to build camaraderie between partners and their mentors and superiors, while others, such as the heroic sacrifice and survival of Sir Frey during the War of Shadows, serve to encourage knights to give their lives for the halidom if need be, and to not be afraid while doing so- but also, to encourage knights to fight to the bitter end.
In addition to old Altean and Archanean practices, Ylisse seems to have inherited some of its military practices from Jugdral, likely as a result of the Exalt lines’ descent from Emperor Seliph of the ancient Grannvale Empire of Jugdral; both Chrom and Lucina are capable of reclassing into the Cavalier line, as demonstrated by Knight Exalt Chrom in Heroes, but the Halidom has also adopted the use of Jugdrali Troubadours, with Lady Ethlyn having taken on near mythical status as the ‘patron saint’ of Ylissean Troubadour orders. However, while the art of swordplay on horseback is still taught to Troubadours, it has all but fallen out of use in practical terms.
The practice of mounted archery among Ylisse’s military, however, is not clear, as only one character is capable of promoting to Bow Knight as part of their standard class progression who is guaranteed to be at least part-Ylissean: Severa. While historical precedent would technically allow for this from a cultural standpoint, with a certain huntsman from the legendary Queen Caeda’s home of Talys providing precedent, no allied Bow Knights are present in Awakening outside of one in a Paralogue in Valm that is likely to turn into an enemy.

World Stuff
When talking in the context of the muses involved in Cerberus, the population is separated into vampires, and then the non-vampires are separated in the context of dogs and blood banks.
Dogs are generally taken at childhood and are trained in sign language because they have their vocal cords cut. Dogs typically become assassins and hired protection for the clients of Cerberus as well as their owners .They're allowed some freedom in the sense that they can be sent out due to the nature of their work. They can also make money to buy their freedom, though this is fairly difficult as their owners add more to their debt.
Blood banks are also taken at childhood, but they don't have their vocal cords cut and can talk just fine. They're more used for servitude and entertainment so to speak. They don't get as much freedom from their masters because not only are they servants, but also a source of nourishment for the vampires.  Typically they're also rented out to clients like dogs, but this is either for servitude purposes or in some cases, sexual favors.
Dogs and blood banks typically don't get along because the dogs envy the blood banks because they have more freedom and can at least talk without pain. Blood banks envy the dogs because they can make money to eventually buy their freedom, whereas they have no option to
Both have iron collars around their necks, that can either be tightened or in worst cases, have an explosive charge that can be detonated. They also have their owner's first initial branded into the flesh around their shoulder.
