From a newb fucking up a simple bank robber detainment, to physically disputing a Mechanical god.
The guy's arc is one of the most underrated in MARVEL.
He started off a rookie, became a hero, made sacrifices, fought a war (multiple), lost a lot in those wars.
He packs a punch, a good kid. Good cast of side characters (Ginger must be protected at all costs).
THEN V4 happened.. he commands so much presence as the Apex NOVA. He goes from Planet to Planet just fixing problems. He shows up, kicks ass, and fucking leaves.
And because he's a seasoned NOVA now, he doesn't have that rookie energy.
He's not nervous, or clumsy, he now talks like a guy who's been around the block. And he knows exactly what he can do power level wise.
He's that guy.
It's amazing that this is the same guy/ confused kid in that hospital bed, not knowing what hell was in store for him.
I usually voted for Sentry, but ENDGAME shoulda had this dude instead of Danvers. PERIOD.
Worldmind is an OG, all you gotta do is read V4 #1 and you'll see what I mean.
You thought JARVIS & FRIDAY came in clutch. WORLDMIND is it as far as A.I's go bruv.

Every time I think about Cosmo in the comics and the films and think about his incredible range of psychic prowess, I die a little inside.
Cosmo is so absolutely, wickedly strong. Unquestionably up there with incredibly strong telepaths. His psionic blasts, mental detection radius, sheer strength, like...he's reaching up there toward Xavier levels. He straight up reaches into Cancerverse Hulk's mind while he's on a rampage and just kills him—reaches into his mind, pulls a couple things, and he has a stroke.
This dog is absolutely incredible. Hyper-intelligent and ridiculously strong to boot, loyal and brave to the end.

Thoughts on your tags: Rich IS like an attack dog!! he's fiercely devoted and would bite for anyone at the slightest hint of danger, but no one wants to be the hand that holds the leash. He's always the first to see himself as only a weapon and a guard dog
By the way!!! Black Order (2018) subverts this really well, he gets mindcontrolled and acts as an unwilling antagonist until the end. They call him puppy multiple times lmao

i have been thinking a lot about how rich's self-dehumanization (?)/his "i'm only a weapon" kind of attitude changed post-annihilation*. like. in new warriors 43 (ish) when he intentionally kills himself to revive worldmind there's a page or two where he actually doesn't want to go through with sacrificing himself. like, he argues with adora about it pretty passionately (as per usual), and is only convinced to do what she tells him to when his friends say he has to (which is a very richie thing to do lol)
and it's just very interesting to compare this to his very blatant self-sacrificial attitude post-annihilation.
I definitely think that, even though he's always had self-sacrificing tendencies, the reason it becomes so debilitating as he gets older has got to have something to do with like. a certain lack of control over what happens to his body.
something something the nature of getting zapped with the nova force at 16 will obviously Do that to you but also like. the period during the later half of the new warriors through nova vol. 2 & 3 is a lot of xandar (adora in particular) making decisions over what happens to his body. where he gets to be how much power he's allowed to have what he's allowed to think & what he's allowed to wear. y'know? doesn't stop him from giving them the middle finger most of the time but... all of that happening when you're 19-21 will give you sooo many complexes
anyway yeah. i don't know if this means anything but i'm spinning him around in my brain microwave. i think that post appealed to me bc i think about cosmo telling rich to go for annihilus's throat an Unheathly amount. something something someone telling worldmind to keep a muzzle on their dog
ANYWHOO i think richie being an attack dog is very interesting. imo it's also why starnovamora is so interesting like. gamora doesn't need an attack dog but she thinks having one would be very hot even if she doesn't want to deal with feeding him and stuff. pete would like rich to chill out for even a moment. rich will do neither of things and if you bring any of this up to him he's going to the other side of the galaxy with his tail between his legs

Guardians of the Galaxy by Al Ewing
I wrote this review last month for Pride Month but am reposting it here.
No one asked for this, but in honor of Pride Month, I would like to review Al Ewing's Guardians of the Galaxy run, because I reread it last night and it is extremely, extremely, extremely gay and I know a lot of people don't read Guardians so you might not know how gay it is. It is very gay. All my faves are gay now.
Plus, it was finally released in one big trade paperback in April, so you can get the whole run in a big book. (Also included is a noir-ish miniseries about Rocket; I didn't read it.) It's eighteen issues plus an annual; it's a pretty fast read.
This is, hands down, my favorite Guardians run. Everything else can move over.
The Guardians of the Galaxy are a team that was thrust into prominence by the MCU, and the subsequent post-MCU runs -- Bendis, Duggan, Cates -- have mostly pulled the team lineup and dynamic into something much closer to the MCU. If you're an Iron Man fan, the run you're probably familiar with is Bendis', which is the one where Tony went to space. I get the impression that Guardians fandom did not like this run much; IIRC, Bendis said he had never read Guardians, and it... kind of showed. It was Not Good.
I understand why Marvel wants to capitalize on the MCU success. I can't claim to have been a longtime Guardians fan before the MCU, but I very quickly became a fan of the 616 team. To prepare to watch the original GotG movie I decided to read all of DNA Cosmic in about two weeks, and I discovered that Phyla-Vell (Quasar, at the time) and Heather Douglas (Moondragon) were my new faves, because what's not to love about space lesbians, one of whom is sometimes a telepathic space dragon. I didn't even know they were a couple until I was halfway through Annihilation Conquest. I observed that they really cared about each other, and then I turned the page and they were kissing. Surprise!
DNA Cosmic also got me shipping Peter Quill and Rich Rider. Rich is one of the few other humans to have a consistent place in Cosmic Marvel; he's a character from the 70s, starting out as a teenager, who was given the status and powers of Nova Prime by the last surviving member of the Nova Corps -- their world, Xandar, is being destroyed -- and then had to defend the galaxy. Eventually Xandar was rebuilt, and Rich went to Earth for a bit and joined the New Warriors. (Civil War happens during the Annihilation event; Rich has some very complicated feelings.) During Annihilation, Xandar is destroyed again, and now Rich has to host the Nova Force and the entire Xandarian Worldmind in his body because he is the last of them. So there's a lot of angst for him. He has a very close friendship with Peter Quill. I dare you to read this run and not ship Peter/Rich. The scene where Peter has to leave Rich in the Cancerverse is extremely angsty. They clearly love each other. They were not, at this time, canonically into each other. But they were obviously BFFs.
So, to summarize, my favorite character elements of it were the relationship between Phyla-Vell and Heather Douglas, who quickly became my favorite Guardians, as well as Rich Rider and his friendship with Peter. Now I was definitely ready for the movie! I think you can see the problem here.
You know what isn't in the MCU? Any of that. Heather, Phyla, and Rich are not in the MCU. So I was disappointed. And then I had to sit through a bunch of Guardians runs where none of these people were main characters anymore because they weren't in the MCU and, thus, everything I loved best about the team wasn't there.
(Also Phyla and Heather have taken turns being dead, and given that they are not big names, they often stay dead for a while; at this point I think Phyla was dead, though she came back before the Cates run, although it was actually her from another universe, and she came with her Moondragon, and 616 Moondragon still existed. This wasn't really explored all that much, until Ewing's run, where the Moondragons merge.)
But then Al Ewing got the book, and he appears to have taken the stance that most of the major characters will be people who have never appeared in the MCU, the character dynamic will be much closer to DNA than the MCU, and, oh yeah, almost all of these people will be queer if they weren't already queer. A bold choice! I'm surprised editorial let him do this. But I am very happy.
Seriously, here are all the characters who are some flavor of queer or in some kind of queer relationship: Peter Quill, Gamora, Rich Rider, Heather Douglas, Phyla-Vell, Noh-Varr, Hercules, Billy Kaplan, Teddy Altman, Avril Kincaid. This is probably the majority of the heroes. You will also note that most of them are not in the MCU.
Literally everyone on the starting team (Peter, Gamora, Rich, Heather, Phyla, Noh-Varr, Rocket, Groot) ends up in a queer relationship except Rocket and Groot and who even knows what counts as queer for those two.
I originally started reading this run because I was happy that Phyla and Heather were both alive again (after the events of Infinity Watch and Infinity Wars) and that they were both Guardians again and also a a couple again; IIRC they were also both in Cates' run but it wasn't really about them. They are major characters here. They go through, uh... let's just call it a rough patch... but they're together again by the end and the universe thing is resolved. And if this were all the run had done, it would have been enough, actually. More than enough. But then the rest of the run also happened.
By the end of this run, Peter Quill, Gamora, and Rich Rider are all in a romantic relationship together. I definitely did not see that coming.
Near the beginning of the run Peter dies. Both Rich and Gamora blame Rich for Peter's death.
There's an entire issue of Rich going to therapy to attempt to deal with his grief.
In the course of this, we find out that Rich talked with Gamora, that Gamora used to be in love with Rich (they did date at one point, so this wasn't entirely out of left field), and also we find out that Rich was definitely in love with Peter. "I loved him too. You know that, right?" Rich asks her.
Gamora's response is "Yes, I know. That makes it worse." So, yeah. That's a thing now.
This is easily my favorite issue of the run. As far as I'm concerned, more heroes should go to therapy. I would absolutely read a comic book about a superhero therapist. A good one. Not, like, Faustus.
If you have ever read a comic book, you will know that Peter is not really dead. He is in another dimension where years pass, having a bisexual polyamorous relationship with a couple people in that dimension. (I wasn't kidding about how gay this was.)
And then eventually he comes back to life, joyously reunites with Rich first (priorities!)...
...and finds out Gamora is now mad at him.
So he has to rejoin the Guardians, defeat the main villain, and navigate his very complicated relationship with Gamora and Rich, who also have to work out their relationship with each other.
But all of them work out their issues, and just as they prepare to take down the villain, Peter tells Gamora, "I love him too. You know that, right?"
And this time Gamora says that makes it better, actually. Character growth! Rich then tells both of them he loves them. It's very sweet.
Anyway, the whole run ends with the team partying victoriously in a bar (Billy/Teddy and Phyla/Heather are both making out in the background, and no, I really wasn't kidding about how gay it all was).
And it's not really as clearly stated as I would have liked, but it is heavily, heavily implied that the three of them, who have their arms around each other, will be spending their vacation together. I'll take it. It's canon now.
If this run has a flaw, it's that the actual main plot keeps getting derailed by tie-ins. I know this is not entirely Ewing's fault, but a good part of this is King In Black and Empyre tie-ins. I didn't read King In Black, but I did fine anyway. Empyre -- which, yes, Ewing also co-wrote -- is probably the more important one to know, otherwise it might be a little confusing why Billy and Teddy are there for half the book. And then Peter and Rich go to the Hellfire Gala (where Rich picks a fight with Magneto), which is of course a crossover with Ewing's SWORD run at the time. It gets to be a bit much.
When it's staying on track, the main plot is serviceable enough. Ewing often has a tendency to make his cosmic work really big-picture and trippy (no, I didn't like his Ultimates run) but he refrains from that here, which I appreciate. The main villain ends up being Dormammu and it's easy to follow. Also watching them put Doctor Doom on the team was pretty great.
I have no idea how well it will read if you only know the MCU -- I'm guessing probably not well -- but if you'd like to see all your 616 faves be gay now, this is the book for you. It's the only Guardians run I've actually bothered buying in paper and not just reading on Unlimited. As far as I am concerned, this book was written for an audience of me and I am 100% fine with this. But if this sounds like your thing, please read it. It is delightful.

365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
December 13th - Nova / Sam Alexander
Sam is the son of Jesse and Eva Alexander. Eva was born in Mexico and immigrated to the United Sates, relocating to a town outside of El Paso where she met and fell in love with Jesse Alexander. Jesse had previously been a member of the Nova Corps. The two married and had a son who they named Samuel. Jesse disappeared some time after the birth of their second child, a daughter they named Kaelynn.
Sam grew up unaware of his father’s having been a Nova. Instead he came to believe his dad was little more than a drunk who made up stories about space adventures; who abandoned him and his mother after his sister was born.
One day Sam happened upon a strange black helmet stashed away in his father’s old work shed. This proved to be a SuperNova Generator, an extremely rare and powerful weapon devised by the Xandarian Worldmind. The helmet had been paired with Sam’s dad and, with their similar genetic signatures, it became bonded with Sam as well.
The helmet connected young Sam with the Nova Force and bestowed him a host of incredible powers. These powers include interstellar flight, energy blasts, super strength, force fields and other abilities. It additionally could translate alien language, navigate the stars and provide tactical information when needed.
Not long after discovering the helmet, Sam was sought out by Gamora and Rocket of the Guardians of The Galaxy. They told the youngster the origins of the Nova Corps and his father’s heroic deeds as a member of the corps. In that the SuperNova helmet was bonded with Sam, the two Guardians concluded they would have to make do with him as the new Nova. As such the pair trained Sam in how to use his various new abilities.
As the new Nova, Sam would have to test the skills he had learned early on. He came across Uatu The Watcher on the moon who informed him of an oncoming invasion of earth by a Chitauri armada. Utilizing the weapon known as the ultimate Nullifier, Sam was eventually able to repel this invasion.
Nova would go on to join a new iteration of The New Warriors. He later was recruited into The Avengers where he served alongside fellow younger heroes, Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan) and Spider-Man (Miles Morales). He acted as a member of the Avengers for a time before he, Ms. Marvel and Spider-Man found themselves disillusioned by the actions of the older heroes during the second Superhero Civil War. The trio decided to leave The Avengers and formed their own group of young heroes, The Champions.
During his time as a member of The Champions, Sam met Richard Rider, the previous Nova of Earth. Rider was presumed killed in action, but returned following harrowing adventures in the so-called CancerVerse. Sam and Richard decided to share the mantle of Nova and the pair have had numerous cosmic adventures together.
Nova/Sam Alexander first appeared in the pages of Point One #1 (2011).

ㅤthe leader should've known better to sneak up on rich like that, especially after a rather tense meeting with worldmind. peter tried his best to not make noise while he checked up on the other. boots carefully treading across the human rocket's temporary quarters on the milano. a spare room right next to groot's. fauna grew out of the vents in the corners of the room, the rest of the area was one of the cleanest places on the ship. before he could even process what was happening, a cold steel knife is placed against his throat. his large hands shot up in surrender, this wasn't the first time he had a knife pressed where he didn't want it.
ㅤThe knife is in his hand before @humanr0cket opens his eyes or realizes he's awake. He'd sense the intruder and acted on instinct. With rest so hard to come by he was always on edge, always sleeping with an eye open. When Nova Prime finally blinks himself awake, knife pressed to a soft throat, Rich realizes it's Peter.
"Fuck," he mutters, rolling off the other. His chest bare glistens with sweat as he drops the knife and lays on his back. "Is something wrong?"
ㅤ"i was just checking up on you, buddy." peter replied, nerves calm despite the threat of a blade being sliced against his jugular. luckily, the other came to his senses and dropped the knife onto the floor. peter bent down to pick it up for him and placed it on a near by countertop along with his other weapons of choice. "just wanted to come around while the others were asleep."
ㅤhe invited himself to sit on the foot of nova prime's bed, blue eyes trying to remain on his eyes rather than his exposed chest. in pure peter quill fashion he managed to sneak a peak while the other rubbed his sleep crusted eyes. "you didn't even look at any of us when you came back."
