Top 10 Francis and Mary moments on Reign:
10. Proposal (S01E08 Fated)
After finally making it official at the end of the last episode, Francis and Mary have a pretty sweet moment in the episode 8 when Francis proposes to Mary and she says yes. She’s full of worry about England, but Francis reassures her they’ll have a lifetime to face things together once they’re married. He vows to pressure her, and listen to her, and argue with her, and love her until the day he dies, practically explaining what marriage is all about. By the end of the scene they’re engaged when he lifts her for a hug and they happily run toward the castle.
9. First kiss (S01E03 Kissed)
Even though Francis was reluctant at first, it took him only 3 episodes to express his adoration for Mary which was executed perfectly at the end of the episode when Francis tells Mary to marry another because he is worried his father won’t make his promise worth and let them marry anytime soon. He knows Mary needs a strong alliance for her country, so he tells her to find it in Portugal with another where it’s for sure it will happen instead of waiting for his father premission, knowing that this could damage his own country. He seals everything with a passionate kiss, and Mary’s surprised face tells it all.
8. Francis and Mary get back together (S02E22 Burn)
After very unlucky season for Francis and Mary, and a very painful season for their fans, they finally reunite in the season finale. After everything that happened and tore them apart, they spent most of the season separated, with Mary even finding comfort in the arms of another man, Francis’ cousin Conde. But, after Conde commits a treason and stages a coup, Mary is forced to chose between the two man she loves and she choses Francis, while taking down Conde. Then she asks him to make a choice with her, a choice to commit their hearts to each others no matter what and Francis responds with a kiss.
7. Mary tells Francis she is pregnant and loses the baby (S02E04 The Lamb and the Slaughter)
Equally happy and devastating episode of season 2 starts with a very happy news: Mary is pregnant and Francis couldn’t be more happy as he lifts her and spins her in the air as a respond to this happy news and says he’s never been as happy in his entire life. But, at the end of the episode Mary has lost the baby and it’s even more devastating to watch her put this horrible news on the side so she could be there for Francis and her friend Lola on their’s son christening. And as that wasn’t sad enough, after Mary tells news to Francis and cries in his arms, he then arranges dozens of lanterns for Mary, saying yet another adorable story from their childhood when they would sneak out and wait for the fireflies that would never come, but for him it was the waiting with her that mattered. As she opens the window and sees all the fireflies he arranged, he tells her she is his light, no matter what. I’m not crying, you’re crying moment, indeed.
6. Francis dies saving Mary (S03E05 In a Clearing)
Probably the most painful thing after seeing Francis die and then come back to life in the episode before is seeing him die once again, but this time forever, just one episode later. After having all the beautiful moments throughout the whole episode, Francis dies saving Mary’s life and they get to say a final goodbye as Mary holds Francis in tears while he tells her how much beauty she’s brought him. The flashbacks of their most important moments together don’t make it any easier to watch either, and by the end of the episode we're all screaming into void with Mary.
5. Stay with me dance (S03E03 Extreme Measures)
This is possibly the greatest musical moment of the show. Francis is dying and getting weaker and weaker by the moment, but he still has to keep appareances so that France wouldn’t look weak too. Mary is with him every step of the way, and when they get into a situation where they are to dance in front of everyone, with Francis’ condition getting worse, Mary takes the lead and they dance beautifully while instrumental version of Sam Smith’s Stay with me plays in the background. Mary saying the words just as the song reaches the Stay with me part to encourage Francis that he can do it just hits straight into the heart.
4. Mary chooses Francis and they marry (S01E13 The Consummation)
After fearing that their marriage could brought Francis’ death, Mary leaves with Bash and a love triangle between two brothers and a queen is born. And, after episodes of Mary being with Bash and falling for him too, she gets the information that she can in fact marry Francis without that being the reason for him dying, and it’s time for her to decide between the two brothers. She runs into Francis’ arms saying it’s always been him, and the result is one whole minute of just pure bliss when Francis and Mary marry and dance together in possibly the most beautiful scene of the show.
3. “Because I love you!” (S01E07 Left Behind)
In one of the strongest Reign episodes, stakes are high as king Henry is out of the country and the castle is overran by a man hungry for revenge. Catherine, Mary and Francis conduct a plan to get everyone out safely, but as plan goes south and Mary, her ladies and Cahtherine end up trapped in the castle with bad men, Francis comes to their rescue just in time. After that, Mary asks him why would he come back for her when it was a clear suicide, and he practially yells “because I love you” to her and makes all of our hearts stop, including Mary’s. After that they finally completely give into their emotions and make love for the first time.
2. Back to you scene (S01E01 Pilot)
Is there any scene on this show more iconic than the Back to you scene in the Pilot? I don’t think so. After Mary arrives at the French court after being away and not seeing Francis for years, the old feelings come rushing back to both Mary and Francis as their eyes lock while Mary is dancing with her ladies to iconic Back to you song by Twin Forks. As their childhood memories are shown as a parallel to leathers falling on them in the present, it is an intense moment as they look at each other with so many emotions.
1. Francis and Mary reunite in the afterlife (S04E16 All it Cost Her...)
After breaking our hearts in season 3 by killing off Francis and making us believe that was the end to Francis and Mary’s love story, Reign gave us everything we didn’t even know we needed - Frary reunion in the afterlife. After the hard life Mary has had, she met her end by Elizabeth in the show’s finale, but the last scene wasn’t out heart breaking once again seeing Mary being executed. No, instead Reign healed all of our broken hearts with one last Frary scene. They are once again young and in France, their home. They finally have forever to be happy toghether and can be free as they are no longer rulers with their countries to think of, but simply just a boy and just a girl, as they dreamed to be even back in season 1.
Honorable mentions:
Mary arrives at the French court (S01E01 Pilot)
“But I’d save you” (S01E01 Pilot)
"Just a girl, and just a boy” (S01E05 A Chill in the Air)

Ranking Community Episodes: God Tier
These are my 15 favorite community episodes.
15. Messianic Myths and Ancient Peoples
Maybe this is also a hot take? I feel like I see this one low on a lot of lists. I really like the (super unexplored) dynamic between Abed and Shirley. Also it ends in such a sweet and surprising way.
14. A Fist Full of Paintballs (s02e23) and 13. A Few Paintballs More (s02e24)
I don’t even know what to say about these episodes, they’re just incredibly funny and engaging and great.
12. Mixology Certification (s02e10)
I feel like this episode took a few watches for me to fully appreciate. It’s kinda sad and morbid. But wow I love these characters so much.
11. Geothermal Escapism (s05e05)
The first time I watched Community I stopped before this episode and went back and watched the whole show again up to this episode bc I couldn’t handle it and I knew I was gonna cry. And i did! My major criticism is that it ISNT a troy episode, which is kinda sad, but also it makes SO MUCH sense for Abed and it’s such a beautiful and sad send off to the best character dynamic of the show. I wish they hadn’t cut that extended goodbye sequence.
10. Pillow and Blankets (s03e14)
I watch this episode so often. I love Troy and Abed together sm.
9. Remedial Chaos Theory (s03e04)
It’s real good, y’all. This episode grows on you - i didn’t think it was that special on the first watch but it’s such a masterpiece - every little boring moment near the beginning of the episode pays off as a joke later on and the entire thing feels like a character study of every character. i hate dan harmon but he might just be a genius.
8. Virtual Systems Analysis (s03e16)
Did not understand this at all on the first watch (which, once again, was in the middle of the night while I was working on an Abstract Algebra problem). But I’m a sucker for Abed character analysis episodes. And it’s really really nice to see these characters actually grow.
7. Intermediate Documentary Making (s02e16)
The best documentary episode by a long shot. Super funny and creative and probably the only “evil pierce” episode where i felt like evil pierce WORKED.
6. Cooperative Calligraphy (s02e08)
Also just one of the greatest episodes/character studies, and I ADORE the way they end it. I think the thing that really makes community special is that they aren’t afraid to be unabashedly wholesome. Like at the end of the day the characters love each other and it shows in this episode. also “paranormal activity, only more boring and fancy” bitch no wonder this show got worse after donald glover left.
5. Conspiracy Theories and Interior Design (s02e09)
This may actually be my fave community episode to watch at any given time. It’s the objectively funniest episode imo. Also it reminds me of what is, imo, the greatest episode of television ever made, Pier Pressure (Season 1 Episode 10 of Arrested Development). I just can’t think of anything that could make this episode any better. Like you think it’s done and then it just keeps escalating.
4. Modern Warfare (s01e23)
Fkn classic. This is the moment the show became Community.
3. Contemporary American Poultry (s01e21)
Just such an iconic moment, and again, a great Abed episode. This was the episode I realized I found Abed painfully personally relatable, especially to who I was back in high school (i really really wish i had been into community back then). It’s also really funny!
2. Abed’s Uncontrollable Christmas (s02e11)
I mean..... what is there to say. It’s fkn incredible. Also I love animation of all kinds as a medium.
1. Critical Film Studies (s02e19)
You’ve probably noticed the pattern. Abed character analysis episodes get shot to the top of my radar. This one is just so perfectly done and I love everything about it. I could watch it 2 billion times.

Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis are both streaming, in their entirety, on Amazon (free with Prime)
Stargate is about Earth’s secret program to explore the universe through an ancient alien device. They face off against numerically and technologically superior forces in a quest for freedom and to obtain technology to defend Earth. Teal’c, a Jaffa who once served their enemy, joins them in the hopes of freeing his people.
In light of the series being available, i have made a curated viewing list in case anyone wants to watch the show, but hopes to avoid rougher episodes, particularly those early in the series.

**********SPOILERS BELOW**********
Toxic Co-Dependent Relationships… Somehow the jaded being that I’ve become thinks that’s how all relationships end up one way or another, in some form or another. I feel like that’s terrible for me to say, but my faith in the human race isn’t strong, hell its barely existent. Somehow we need each other, we truly do… But in that same breath we also need to be far, far away from each other so that we can grow in our own personal directions. I’ve personally been with the same person for 11+ years, and though I have to admit that we grow in certain areas in our lives, in our own unique ways, on our own particular time… At the same time, we also have kind of grown into one entity… And as much as we like to tell people that one is one person and one is the other, we are still very much a resemblance of one.
Love is a fascinating subject, one that Netflix has really nailed in its aptly (and ironically) titled Netflix Original Series ‘Love’. I just finished S2 of 'Love’ and if you follow my reviews I’ve written episodically throughout the season, you’ll see that I become increasingly frustrated that people can’t help but to take sides… Mickey is right. Gus is right… Or one of them is wrong and vice versa. This is because people love to point fingers, it’s like it’s encoded into their DNA… And more often than not, they’ve grown up on Disney fairytales, the old school kind (not the polarizing, existential ones we are starting to see today like the absolutely groundbreaking 'Inside Out’ - maybe our kids today will have a better chance than the generations that came before them… Because they are getting a rare chance to choose their own perspective, not like how we were spoon fed this idea of 'happily ever after’). You don’t just deserve love, and it’s certainly not handed to you. Love is cruel, love is hard, and love is incredibly messy. All those things people vehemently say 'they won’t put up with’ in a relationship, at one point or another they’ll have to find a way to get past them, because we don’t make up words for human behaviors that don’t happen. Human error is way more common than the world wants to admit… Even the ones we want to view as the worst of the worst.
The episode ends on the very note that Nora (Carrie Coon) says will be her and Kevin’s (Justin Theroux) cover story as they take off on the plane to Melbourne in the beginning… A hypothetical conversation they may need to have in telling this group that Mark Linn-Baker has spotlighted for Nora, who claims they can reunite her with her departed that if they have a problem with Kevin accompanying her to Australia. They will say they are in a toxic, co-dependent relationship and he came to see her off. She got the toxic part right. I love the scene at the airport where she decides to enter through a different terminal and leave Kevin behind, mainly because she has $20,000 strapped to her and she’s only legally allowed to travel with $10k. After the deed is done, Kevin immediately her why she didn’t just let him carry the other part. It’s moments like these that are the most telling… The writing was on the wall as soon as the beginning credits first rolled.
Nora & Kevin are not on the same page and never really have been. Has there ever been a point in one of your relationships where you felt or feel like your falling in love, but you question whether or not that it’s true love or you are both simply acting out of loneliness. I get the vibe that’s always been the case with these two. You can care about someone and never truly love them, but it’s never our place to decide what it is that two people really share… Because at the end of the day, whether it’s real life or on a screen, if it’s not your relationship then you are not wearing their shoes… And we simply can never know what kind of electricity is conducted between two souls.
Kevin and Nora were both separated in Melbourne that day as they were inside of the airport, both with equally dejecting experiences. Nora turned down by the group that led her there with the promise to reunite her with her family only to pack up and dash out, leaving Nora to chase them down and beg them to stay. Kevin is led to a Live Melbourne Morning show after he sees Evie in Muslim garb holding a sign that says 'Surah 81’, a passage in the Quran referring to judgement day, the lines translated are ripe with references throughout the series as a whole… And there’s even a line that loosely translates to 'And your companion is not at all mad’… It wouldn’t matter because that woman holding the sign wasn’t Evie at all. And so Kevin was beat up, told that he was having a psychotic break over the phone by Laurie, forced to look at the picture he had snapped of 'Evie’, which he now sees was not Evie at all. Now I’m left questioning everything we see through his eyes. But if Kevin isn’t mad, then he is fulfilling a purpose, a prophecy.
So where does all of that leave Nora? The two exchange harsh words, neither one being completely honest with the other. Kevin is having trouble distinguishing realities and Nora is ready to obliterate herself into what is perceived to be another world or another plane of existence. Instead of saying what needs to be said, Kevin packs up and leaves Nora behind. Nora is frozen, quite the juxtaposition we saw earlier when she made off like an Olympian chasing down the car of the doctors and scientists that brought her there just to reject her. Throughout the episode we getting different versions of A-Ha’s 'Take On Me’, but now we are actually getting the real version in all its perky hopefulness… As the fire we saw burning in Nora’s empowered soul earlier is now literally burning around her in the form of pages of Matt’s 'Bible’, setting off the fire alarm as Kevin nonchalantly exits the hotel room. Sprinklers go off, extinguishing that very fire…. The one that is no longer inside of Nora. We are left with an iconic image of Nora sitting at the end of her hotel bed, with water just dripping off her face in the darkness, illuminated by the fire and smoke filling the room. The image is nothing short of haunting… And as Nora continues to be trapped by her fear and indecision, Kevin leaves the hotel, running into Kevin Sr and his new homicidal cohort. Let’s go finish that book, eh?
