I think the portrayal of Spider-Man 2099 in Across the Spider-Verse is in-character in that aside from like Shattered Dimensions he's always been portrayed as a bit of an asshole who slips into anti-hero territory at times and generally has a "needs of the many over the needs of the few" mindset and given his specific circumstances in the movie it's not unreasonable to think he could take the actions he does. However it does kinda suck that since like 99% of moviegoers had no idea who he was before the movie came out their first impression of him is when he's in an antagonistic role and people think "antagonist" and "villain" are synonyms so now I'm gonna have to listen to people who've never read a comic saying he's a villain or isn't a real Spider-Man for the rest of time or at least until he inevitably changes his mind in the third one.

Oooh!! Enrichment in my enclosure - thank you for asking! Thinking about a total rewrite was a great exercise. Fair disclaimer: I haven’t read the books & their canon-status can’t hurt me. To me, the Dishonored games stand out due to their immsim design philosophy, and thinking about some of the industry reasons for DotO’s departure from that, if I could make a standalone game with ~ten levels I would, but with the same budget I’d also happily make two DLCs made slowly over a longer timeframe with greater attention to detail.

Setting & Characters

Billie: What has Billie been doing since she’s returned to Serkonos? Knowing the Dreadful Wale will sink, she’s sold it for scrap & has set up an agency in Lower Aventa. She’s something of a detective/odd-jobs man (& assassin when it suits her). Business is booming, life is good. I think a long-running implication that she's becoming Daud in some ways would make for an interesting subplot.

Karnaca: a city that unfolds. In the first levels, Billie feels like a forgotten woman, a ghost slipped through the cracks, but as levels progress there are hints & references to how her past actions have affected others & shaped the city

Alignments: Witches, gangs, religion, industry; missions for clients who can’t necessarily pay their way. Missions that allow the player to explore/understand Karnaca in a deeper way.

Daud: Billie is unsure if Daud again will bring her any closure. She’s been thinking of him since her time with Emily, and his name keeps popping up.

Deirdre: the charm is a more functional heart, similar to Jessamine, as well as her own character design. Perhaps she doesn’t see Deirdre until she chooses the powers, or until she’s in the void (see next point)

First arc: Finding Daud // Billie’s past

Powers: the Outsider offers Billie powers even though her life is finally, actually good, so she’s pissed off. A choice - she can take them, or play no powers mode.

Breanna Ashworth is this arc’s villain - she wants Delilah back, and knows that Daud has banished her before, wants to know how he did it. Grief & desperation has changed her, and she no longer has her high society veneer. The remnants of the Karnaca coven, now powerless, have stolen from the Overseers to arm themselves to the teeth, and to neutralise Daud’s powers, in addition to black bonecharms.

Billie’s in a race against time against Breanna to find Daud, but by the last level it becomes clear that Breanna *has* found Daud, and has been torturing him for information about the void. Her dynamic with Billie is complicated by their past.

I think betrayal would be an interesting theme, so maybe one of the levels gives you the option to ally yourself with Breanna under false pretences.

Second arc: choosing the fate of the Outsider // Billie’s future

Delilah is the core villain, but she’s obsessed with killing the Outsider so she can take his place, having been violently ripped from her perfect world in her own painting by Breanna (who meant well), & knowing the Empire doesn’t hold her interest... but a perfectly mouldable void & infinite power does take her fancy.

As remorseful Daud is obsessing about preventing Delilah from taking power, Billie’s doing some detective work and learns more about the Outsider (he’s not showing up and monologuing - she’s finding this out herself. A level idea could be a raid on a ‘haunted’ houses where the void is thin)

Delilah succeeds in taking the Outsider's place, leaving the Outsider dead or mortal depending on if you are able to save him. Delilah has split her soul from herself before and she’s very much clever enough to learn the Outsider’s name to render him mortal.

Daud knows he’s dying, though, and it might be an ultimate sacrifice to save both Billie’s life, and the Outsider’s.

So during the final battle, there’s an option to make Daud the Outsider, because Daud wants Billie and the Outsider to have a shot at a normal life, and his life was forfeit in his own mind…

… or, reluctantly accepting the Outsider’s help, Billie finds a way to cut the void’s access to the world, rendering Delilah an all powerful god over a dead & silent world.

Because of the past/present focus of this you could even have levels set in the past - missions with Billie & Daud. Perhaps Billie as POV character, and Daud dropping by the way that Billie did in Knife of Dunwall. That’d be neat.

Laceys Games and Valle Verde are so criminally underrated it's a real shame. I consume a lot of digital horror/arg content but truthfully those two are the best I've seen besides classic Petscop. The way they weave their narratives and their aesthetics are truly phenomenal. One of the reasons Petscop got so big when it did is because there was nothing really like it. I think the same can be said for both Lacey and Valle Verde, I wish there were more people who appreciated just how insanely good they both are. But, I suppose, it is always fun to be "niche"

Okay, so being at home (and ill!) has given me some time to organize my thoughts ahead of time for 2024, because I want to clean house a little bit across the board. Consider this a little informative post that'll simultaneously function as my to-do list to complete by the end of the year. Kafka is near and dear to me, but Genshin as a whole is more my home than Star Rail. Bear with me, I have every intention of running her alongside Yelan). Me at self: Old theme/resources blog (x) needs urgent work.

And then, I have the secondary game-plan:

— Guizhong: She'll return, but I'm, very sadly, in a little bit of a mental lock here. Stay tuned! — Zhongli: This is the big surprise, I suppose. I'm finally giving in. He may not come very soon as my current focus very much lies with Yelan in specific, but especially when Lantern Rite 2024 inevitably hits, I know the tears will fall, my heart will warm and I will be a mess. i teach this kid usually twice a week and he's a bit of an asshole sometimes, but we're slowly building up a relationship and his writing is really improving and it's genuinely such a joy to see. i told him yesterday that i was really enjoying reading his writing as it became more detailed and he asked if that was a good or a bad thing so i told him that it was a really good thing, i liked what he was writing and that he was becoming much more clear in it and it was cool to be able to see his writing form. and this kid, this fucking kid trying not to look pleased because that's uncool i guess, but the excitement and pride and happiness that crept into his voice after that, it's one of the most beautiful things about teaching

I've been to a number of sites but all of the english 'translations' are nonsensical and make no sense. I honestly think they just feed the text into google translate instead of hiring people who actually know english. But I still really want to read them.

So you have two choices.

The first is that you pay for licensed BL and Manhwa on sites like Tappytoons, Lezhin and similar for professionally done English translations. There's a metric fuckton of them. It can get expensive fast, but there's usually hacks to increase the amount of coins you can spend for free, though you will still have to generally pay to keep up with more than one at a time.

The second is that you use illegal sites. I am not - for what should be really obvious reasons - going to tell you where / what they are. What I will say is that English translations on illegal sites are often fan-made and so are very hit and miss. For example, organisations like Zinfandel are famously terrible (and do plug into translators), and then you have other translators who are extremely professional and in some cases better than the official translations. In that, it's hit/miss, you get what you don't pay for, basically, and you have to be willing to sort through what you're looking at.

Obviously I'm not going to tell you where to find options in the second category - if you want legitimate translation, you have to pay for it, either through purchasing hard-copy BL manga (i.e. paperbacks), or purchasing coins and episodes through official websites. Alternatively, you can request published English BLs like Doukyuusei by Asumiko Nakamura through your library.

If you want legitimate translations, you go to legitimate places, it's really that simple.

oh my god time management holy shit i just spent literally 2 weeks with poor sleep and doing my homework at dumb hours and last minute and it was the worst, i woke up today at 8:30am after spending all night working on homework for a class at 10:30am today. i went to bed at 7am. i regret it. but also i don't because i got my work done and now i probably will pass that class. i never want to do that again. all of my homework is drawing. at least my drawings are sexy as fuck but holy shit at what cost, i need to have better time manageme--

anyways that's not what the question is asking. there's two things!!! im trying to improve on my speed at which i draw, and like. getting things on the page instead of just like. thinking about about it Really HardTM. i've been getting much much better at Just Drawing lately and im super proud of myself!!!

in terms of actual drawing type things, im trying to get better at comic paneling and flow!! like. how to make a comic/illustration be readable and still interesting to look at!!! or even WONDERFUL to look at!!! im doing pretty decent at making a piece be readable, and preventing the viewer from looking at the wrong panel at the wrong time, but im still working out how to direct the eye around the page and make it fun while doing so. i think it's just a matter of using the negative and positive spaces constructively to make something that looks REALLY really cool, but i haven't super been able to put it into practice effectively yet. im working on it!!!!
