things people do after having a nightmare that isn’t crying

struggle to catch their breath

grab onto whatever’s close enough to ground themselves in reality

become nauseous / vomit

shake uncontrollably

sweat buckets

get a headache

things people do to combat having nightmares if they occur commonly

sleep near other people so they can hear the idle sounds of them completing tasks

move to a different sleeping spot than where they had the nightmare

leave tvs / radios / phones on with noise

just not sleep (if you want to go the insomnia route)

sleep during the day in bright rooms

things people with insomnia do

first, obviously, their ability to remember things and their coordination will go out the window

its likely they’ll become irritable or overly emotional

their body will start to ache, shake, and weaken

hallucinate if it’s been long enough

it becomes incredibly easy for them to get sick (and they probably will)

Literally Outlast: a horror game containing extremely heavy and mature themes in which a guy can't mind his own business and finds himself imprisoned in a mental hospital full of patients disfigured due to cruel experiments carried out by a multinational company for pure profit. Subsequently he finds himself losing two fingers, being chased by the aforementioned crazy patients, running away from naked people, pressing buttons, pulling levers, chasing a priest, probably contracting 29492 infections because NO ONE HEALED THE WOUNDS ON HIS HANDS and progressively losing his sanity because a nano-ghost needs a host to exist. IN ALL THIS we follow the story of the snitch who informed him of all this and who almost gets castrated by a giant with mommy and daddy issues

It's complete! It's finally complete! After more than 5 years, my Outlast fanfic "Purgatorium" is done!

Suffice to say, here is the last chapter and epilogue. Open ending is open, but this almost feels like a staple of the horror genre X) However, even though Purgatorium has been planned as part of a duology from the very beginning, I will not be making any promises regarding a potential sequel since I have only very rough ideas for it as of now...

Anyway, I want to thank everyone who read, kudo-ed, and commented on this fic. Your feedback really motivated me to keep going ^^

(Of course, I will always be happy about new readers and feedback, no matter how old this fanfic gets ;) )

Drum rolls, please!

"Purgatorium" has not been abandoned, as I promised! I have finally finished the 11th chapter! Now only an epilogue is left and I can call this story complete.

Honestly, I found it somewhat difficult to write down what are basically the events in Outlast. But forcing myself to sit down one weekend to continue the chapter kinda helped...

Anyway, Miles finally makes an appearance and things do not go according to Rick's plans in this chapter.
