Dead of Night/Deathdream (1974)
A movie about a soldier who is killed in Vietnam, and then comes back as a vampire... for reasons! From there it's a pretty straightforward "Came back wrong" story that doesn't really have any kind of meaningful lore or story. There is a single line that does come dangerously close to trying to make a point, when the returned soldier says "I died for you Doc. Why shouldn't you return the favor?" but that is literally the only time that the concept is even brought up.

The Chilling (1989)
Zombies at a cryonics facility, which was still a novel concept in the 80s, and overall not a bad place to encounter some zombies. Overall, just stupid fun, provided you're not expecting too much from it. If nothing else, it's another opportunity to enjoy Dan Haggerty in a weird horror movie. There's also a weird little side plot that seems important, but then never actually goes anywhere. Which is a little

Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla (1952)
Overall standard "Characters are in the jungle for some reason and meet a mysterious scientist living in said jungle" movie. They even have a chimp! While there are quite a few "Product of its time" issues, the most off-putting aspect of the film is how it seems to exist primarily to showcase the talents of lead actors. Unfortunately, those talents are being a discount Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. So there are quite a few out-of-place musical and comedy routines awkwardly inserted into the story... Also, it's almost an hour into the movie before a gorilla actually appears.
It's also a movie that makes you feel a little sorry for Bela Lugosi. At this point in his career, he was reduced to taking roles like this, while still having enough drawing power for them to put his actual name in the title of the movie.

Revenge of the Zombies (1943)
A follow-up to 1941's King of the Zombies, and it's pretty much the same movie again, but without any of the charm.

King of the Zombies (1941)
A well-made and fun movie, provided you just accept the more problematic elements as a product of their time. Which, just to be clear, is not something that anyone should be expected or required to do.

The Black Raven (1943)
An average murder mystery. Decently acted, but makes the mistake of only really providing two good suspects and doing everything in its power to convince you that one is innocent, while making the other look as suspicious as possible. So when the "Shocking conclusion" comes it's much more of an "Oh," than it is a "Wow."

The Abomination (1986)
One of those movies that's likely known from a handful of over-the-top effects shots—like the ones I'm showing here—while the movie surrounding them is mediocre at best, clunky and confusing at worst. Worth a watch due to its cult status and some impressive visuals, but the rest of the movie can be a bit of a slog.

1990: The Bronx Warriors (1982)
Essentially what happens when you blend together Escape from New York and The Warriors and sprinkle liberally with Italian herbs and spices. Unfortunately, it does end up borrowing from both films in a way that is promising, but overall unfulfilling. If you go into it expecting a cheap knockoff of those two movies, then it's enjoyable, but if you're expecting anything more, you're likely to be disappointed.

Flesh-Eating Mothers (1988)
A fun wacky concept and a movie that doesn't waste a lot of time getting to it. It does however suffer a bit from a weak plot and being the "horror with the occasional out-of-place gag" type of horror comedy.

Jack-O (1995)
For some reason, in the mid-90s there was something of a trend of R-rated horror movies where the main character is just the most annoying kid you can possibly imagine. Jack-O is one such movie. Overall it's okay, but not remarkable. Ancient curse, bloodlines, vengeance, that kind of thing. Honestly, the most memorable scene may be Linnea Quigley's character being introduced in the shower, just because of how "Linnea Quigley" of a moment it was.

The Ghoul (1933)
Historically important, and overall well-made, but it does feel more like a crime thriller where someone briefly rises from the grave than it does a full-on horror film. Good for its time, but a little slow by modern standards.

Evil Town (1987)
A movie that takes almost an hour to even start trying to get to the point, and by the time finally it does, you've long since lost interest in whatever it was building to.

The Day It Came to Earth (1977)
Zombies generally do not really work as solitary monsters, unless they have some sort of unique abilities or motivations that make them distinctive beyond just "a zombie." This film is no exception.

Bloodstream (1985)
A movie about a deranged filmmaker taking revenge on a sleazy distributor for stealing his film. Which is a fun concept, and one that is executed... in a style that one might reasonably expect from a super-low-budget slasher-type film. My only real complaint is a bit of padding in the form of characters watching movies, which I assume are clips from the director's previous works, which does start to get old after a while, although fortunately it stops shot of trying to drag things out to a full 90 minutes.

So I teased a thing a while back and have been very quiet about it since. So here's an update.
About a month ago I got sick, it wasn't that bad, mainly a runny nose and I couldn't talk. Probelm is, my voice still hasn't fully recovered. I can talk okay now, but the specific vocal range I use for voicing Murderella is just gone.
I'm not going to say that The Video Dungeon won't be hitting a YouTube near you, but it won't be happening until I can fix my voice.

Bloody New Year (1987)
Other than being British, set in an isolated hotel on an island, and having a convoluted sci-fiesque explanation, it's kinda like a more tame version of The Evil Dead.

Black Christmas (2006)
A surprisingly solid remake. It takes the original concept and gives it its own spin. A visually striking presentation, making very good use of the Christmas trappings in the lighting and set dressing.
