Spyker C8 Aileron

The Spyker C8 Aileron is an attention-getting device of pretty intense wattage. It even draws stares from the pilots of Ferraris, Lambos, and other exotics. We know this from an early-morning blast down California’s spectacular Highway 1, south of Carmel, where the Spyker loped confidently at naughty speeds in straight places, and Lamberrari drivers, engaged in the same kind of dawn frolic, acknowledged the C8 with headlight flashes and the occasional wave.

This is a good omen for Spyker because its buyers generally own a Lambo or a Ferrari already, plus three or four other cars.

But wherefore art thou Aileron? Spyker literature uses numerous aeronautical allusions, including a propeller logo, citing an aviation heritage. This seems to be a reach. It’s true that the original Dutch company was involved in aeronautical endeavors as well as automobile production, but Spyker Automobielfabriek shut down in 1925. The current company was established in 2000.

Dodge D-150 Shelby

The full-size Ram D150 pickup prototype was a Dodge Design Center one-of-a-kind. The exterior featured the Shelby Charger color scheme of Santa Fe Blue and Radiant Silver finished off with the standard Shelby striping. Along with that it received a custom fiberglass tonneau cover, roll bar with a row of off-road lights, side skirts, and front spoiler. The custom-made chrome crosshatch grille featured a large Chrysler Pentastar finished off with a massive chrome front bumper with brush guard. The interior’s stock bench seat was placed by special Konig bucket seats upholstered in blue cloth with a Shelby monogram. A Direct Connection steering wheel, CB radio and custom switches for the off-road lights were also added.

The suspension was modified in order to lower the center of gravity for better handling.

The stock wheels were replaced with Chrysler alloy wheels shod with Goodyear Eagle STs.

Under the hood, the stock 318-cubic-inch engine was replaced with a 360-cid V-8 short block containing 10:1 pistons and a mild Purple Shaft camshaft. The top end consisted of W2 cylinder heads with 2.02 intake valves, Holley Street Dominator intake manifold and Holley 600 CFM carburetor. Air Cleaner was a chrome Direct Connection unit based on the 1968-1969 high performance unsilenced air cleaner. Ignition was a Direct Connection Gold Box. Exhaust was handled by Hooker headers. Transmission was a 727 Torqueflite with shift kit.

The modified engine delivered over 300 brake horsepower making this 3500 lb pickup

The Mondeo ST200 has a 2.5 litre V6 producing a modest 202bhp. But its party trick is that it also chucks out a respectable 173 lb-ft of torque, which when putting your foot down for the very first time, catches you off guard massively. It has a top speed of 141 mph and can get to 60mph in about 7 and a half seconds. It also got outsold by a retarded Toyota picnic.

TVR 3000S

The vast majority of TVRs pre 1978 were fast backs but the 3000S was the first real production TVR convertible. Being developed from the successful M series, 258 3000S models were constructed between 1978 and 1979, of which 13 were fitted with the turbo charged version of the Ford Essex 3-litre V6 engine. Working in conjunction with Broadspeed, the performance of the Ford Essex V6 was developed to achieve 230 bhp and 273 lbs/ft, leading to a top speed of 140 mph and a 0-60 mph time of 5.8 seconds.
