Damas stared out at the endless horizon. The mid-day sun already creating an evident haze over sandy dunes and rocky plateaus. The desert screamed with the void of an open maw as he felt a weight sink into the pit of his stomach. Thirty hours. That's how long it took. A scant thirty hours to lose everything he had ever known and loved. His brother, his home, his city, his people. He couldn't help playing that fateful moment in his mind. Over and over. What could he have done? What should he have done? Stayed closer to his brother, he always promised to watch his back. Move sooner. Sense that something was wrong.  He should have KNOWN.  Should have done something!  Never should have leant his sword to Praxis. Gun or no gun.  Never should have turned his back on the man.  Because in that moment, Damas' breath quickened, that moment was all that bastard needed to stab his brother clean through.  With his sword.  His Father's sword! He should have beaten Praxis to death where they stood. He never had the chance. And less than an hour ago, he'd been thrown to the wasteland to die a traitor's death by exile. His eyes burned. It wasn’t fair…
