JD is a villain that I could never be.

And ik that’s probably not what you’re asking about, but that’s how I start my deep dives, so bear with me.

He was traumatized, literally watched his mom end her own life and then was forced to pay rent. He’s constantly on the move and has little to no social skills.

I mean my man finds solace in a 7/11 which should tell you how bad his situation is.

JD is just a dynamic character.

I love him (not as a person).

He’s manipulative. And he’s good at it. Homie had Veronica eating out the palm of his hand. He’s the ultimate narcissist. HE TALKED HER INTO STAYING WITH HIM AFTER HE UNALIVED THREE PEOPLE ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

He let his trauma overtake him and drive him to planting bombs at a pep rally.

As someone who listens to Heathers on the reg, it’s quite the accomplishment to form that pit in my stomach every time I hear

LUKE IS A VILLAIN THAT I VERY MUCH COULD HAVE BECOME. LIKELY WOULD HAVE BECOME IN THOSE CIRCUMSTANCES.

I held a lot of bitterness and anger toward my parents for a long time

Luke is one of very few villains that I love a redemption arc for.

Holding a grudge is one thing. Feeling abandoned by his dad and terrified of his mom? Can you see why he may be a little upset?? But using said feelings to endanger all of the people he cares about just for revenge?

And then a deity starts whispering to him about taking revenge and at first he’s like ‘eehhhhhhh…..’ but the temptation is too great and he’s eventually POSSESSED BY SAID DEITY.

But in the end he sacrifices himself?!?! UGH SO GOOD

Like this is a villain that I can follow the train of thought. The tracks are clear. One stop after another. Abandoned, forgotten, LOSING HIS BEST FRIEND SISTER AND THEN BEING TOLD TO POISON WHAT’S LEFT OF HER.

AND HIM BEING TOLD ABOUT ANNABETH DENYING WHAT HE SEES AS THE ONLY THING TO DO AFTER ALL OF THIS.

KRONOS WHISPERING THINGS LIKE: AFTER EVERYTHING THEY WENT THROUGH. AFTER THEY PROMISED TO NEVER ABANDONED EACH OTHER. HOW COULD SHE?!?

AND LUKE BEING CONFUSED AND POSSESSED BY THE SPIRIT OF KRONOS AND JUST HOW COULD SHE?!

THIS BOY IS SEVEN KINDS OF FUCKED UP.

PLEASE GET HIM THERAPY.

gotta get this out of my system but the fact that nolan's instinct whenever he experiences Big Anger is to use his son as a punching bag and that it's actually become A Pattern at this point makes me wanna start clawing at the walls

a family member of mine just got engaged to his partner of the last several years

like sorry but if ur actually seeing an increase in students using chatgpt 2 write essays 4 ur class why is ur first thought "oh they're being lazy" & not "have i structured this class in a way that makes this student feel the need to rely on chatgpt?" especially bc the majority of college students are overwhelmed taking multiple classes working part-time jobs caring for family dealing with health issues etc etc like there are soooo many reasons a student might decide to use chatgpt that are not just "laziness"!! consider:

the student didn't have time to complete the assignment without chatgpt -> have you created an environment where students can ask for extensions without judgment? do you only give out extensions for "emergencies" or "valid reasons" (<- subjective measure)? if so, why? what purpose do these strict deadlines serve? [think about how this overlaps with students who may have "had time" but were overwhelmed for other reasons; what kind of environment have you created for these students, and does it best serve their learning?]

the student didn't feel they had the ability to write an essay of good enough quality to receive a good grade without chatgpt -> how are you grading students' work? what grading scales have you utilized that made this person feel as though they're incapable of succeeding? do those grading scales prevent them from succeeding? if so, why? what educational resources did they or did they not have access to before entering your class? how might that change considerations about how you grade? [think about how this overlaps with students completing coursework that is not in their first language and whether your grading standards are truly equitable for these students]

the student didn't feel that they could understand the material and therefore couldn't complete the assignment -> again, have you created an environment where this student can come to you for help? how are you presenting and explaining material? what opportunities have you provided for students to seek out additional resources and support with understanding? is this assignment and its correlated grading scale designed to accommodate a variety of skill levels, or is it designed with "the best student" in mind?

the student actually just doesn't care about this class and doesn't want to do the work -> why don't they care about this class? what other classes or work are they prioritizing, and why? to what extent are you willing to accommodate students who simply will never view your class as a priority, but need to complete it to earn a degree--and how is that need tied structurally to a university that serves primarily as a class barrier? what role do you play in that university structure, and is it a role you want to play?

at the end of the day if your goal is 2 prioritize student learning that means being flexible & adapting your grading scales, assignment structures, class policies, etc. to accommodate students at their level of learning for their own purposes. like if the choice is between having a student get a zero on an assignment for "cheating" versus working with that student to create an alternative assignment which they can complete & which engages them with the course material on a level they can manage then to me it seems like a pretty clear choice between "no learning" and "some learning."

#sooooo much hand-wringing in my 'leftist' university dept. rn abt ai & i'm just like um. u guys will never believe what i think abt this lol #unfortunately not in a position where i can actually outright say this 2 the profs bc i need 2 be viewed as 'playing by the rules!'#but like. sorry if i'm ur ta & ur syllabus policies kinda suck then i am going 2 make my own policies under the table....#anyway. it is genuinely so frustrating how students who 'get caught cheating' for 'using ai' are treated as like. these scheming villains #instead of students who need additional support + empathy !!! & like. worst case scenario ok ur student IS an evil schemer sure #well wouldn't u rather have a policy that accidentally gives grace 2 a student who doesn't need it than denies it to a student who does???#ranting and raving #txt

god i wish they hadn't retconned maul's death. i get wanting to explore more of his character because he was, objectively, one of the coolest star wars characters to ever hit the big screen and didn't get much screentime prior to his death, but also his role was fulfilled perfectly within those constraints so i wasn't too upset by it.

but by retconning it and making it so he never died it's like. okay. what now? the whole point (well, to me, ymmv of course) of the theed generator fight was that it was the first ever fight between the jedi and the sith in thousands of years, and that in the end even though the jedi (obi-wan) won the fight, a jedi (qui-gon) and a sith (maul) still died. a master and an apprentice dying together to herald the start of a new age/the return of the sith. perfectly paralleling the way in rotj a master (palps) and an apprentice (anakin/vader) died together to herald the return of the jedi. in both instances, a father figure (qui-gon/vader) dies in the arms of their son (obi-wan/luke) as a sith (palps/maul) is cast down into the abyss to their deaths. (palps being alive in the ST and retconning his death in rotj is also annoying for this reason)

i mean i like maul. don't get me wrong. he's an incredibly compelling character and i enjoy seeing more of him... but there's always the thought hovering in my mind like "he should be dead though. he should 100% be dead. this wouldn't be happening if he was dead, but i honestly would rather it not if it meant that maul was dead."

like the tpm fight just doesn't hit the same knowing that canonically he's just. going to become a robot octopus at some point. (shoutout to palps becoming sith glados in the ST) it cheapens the moment for me. it was supposed to be a moment of triumph marred by the deep and soul-crushing loss of a loved one and it's just... not, anymore. or at least not to the same extent. AUGH i'm just. frustrated. wish star wars as a whole wasn't constantly reframing/retconning what's been established. just puts a bad taste in my mouth.

Head in my hands

At this point when errors, happen I don't even know if it's me or Tumblr's fault anymore, because like– Ok, to give you guys a peek into the clip posting process I've had to do for the past month or so:

I upload a clip, write the transcript, then write the tags.

If the clip is stuck in upload hell for more than 5 minutes, I refresh my drafts page and wait for it to show up in there.

I edit the draft, re-type the transcript that's missing (because the auto-save usually deletes half of it) and re-write the tags that are missing

Sometimes I'm able to copy over the transcript from the "still uploading" post if I don't close the tab, but occasionally, it copies transcripts of previous posts I've created (or parts of them) and I have to triple-check that nothing copied over.

I hit “post” then pray and hope the draft posts instead of getting sent back to upload hell 2.0
