Some Japanese yōkai coffee labels done for Nishimuki!
This brief was so fun! Kappa are found in rivers and akaname thrive in dirty, cluttered areas of houses licking grime off things. So best to keep our rivers clean and our homes a little less clean to give these beings space to live!
Can confirm the coffee is delicious too <3

Yokai: The Art of Shigeru Mizuki. Published 10/31/2023 by Drawn & Quarterly.
Shigeru Mizuki is no stranger to the supernatural and its portents. Kitaro and Tono Monogatari reimagined the obscure folktales of his youth, bringing them to life with whimsy. Mizuki the cartoonist certainly left an indelible mark on comics as world literature. Mizuki the fine artist, on the other hand, rounds out the full scope of his fascination with the otherworldly and fantastic, bringing these worlds to life in robust color.
Yokai: The Art of Shigeru Mizuki showcases his expertise of not only folklore, but celebrates him as a naturalist. Elements of Mizuki’s lush compositions—flora, fauna, and everything in between—showcase his mastery of form and love for nature. These popular renderings of a disappearing, rural Japan are his contribution to the preservation of a cultural heritage that would have otherwise been forgotten. The grotesque realism central to his body of work is offset by the ingenuity of his fancy for the macabre. Pieces in this deluxe, full-color edition call to mind the playful pop-sensibility of Maurice Sendak informed by the technical prowess of traditionalists like Dürer and Doré. And like any other Mizuki classic, each oeuvre is a unique snapshot of spirit, human or otherwise, in constant transition.
Yokai: The Art of Shigeru Mizuki includes supplementary writing by acclaimed Mizuki scholar and translator Zack Davisson.

(This is a little guy named the Akaname, it’s not dangerous, and all it does is lick the grime and mildew from your bathroom)

So I’ve recently got into Monster Prom/Camp, and so my little gremlin brain had to make some ocs for it! From left to right we have;
-Verne (20???), a young alien shapeshifter who’s UFO crashed into a antique store. Due to this, they have a strong connection to retro items, fashion, and knick knacks.
-László (around 200), the zombie of a soldier during the Seven Years War, who’s now Spooky Acadamy’s resident theatre nerd. (Totally not a Peter Lorre parody.)
-Claude (22), an invisible person who wants to rule the world… through minor inconveniences.
-Yuya (19), an excitable akaname who’s greatest wish in life is to be a janitor.

A creature of filth, born to ingest this filth via its long tongue. The akaname is a signifier of uncleanliness of the washroom. An entity more harmless than not, only representing one's own neglect to keep the bathroom tidy.

My first ask witch!!
Tumblr media
Just got my first witch suggestion, thank you anon!! wherever you may be. Will not as silly as expected, i went with a more unnerving direction basing the witch on Aka Manto, while the familiars are based on Akaname.
Tumblr media
(They currently do not have names, but I'll edit this post once names come to light)
TBA, the toilet paper witch with a choosy nature, this witch acts like a certain urban legend where it offers a choice between two distinct colors, one leads to being cut to bits, and one leads to strangulation. Though unlike the legend, this witch will occasionally swap the outcomes. This witch makes its barrier in bathrooms, dirty, new, it does not matter to the witch. To defeat this witch, you must state after their offer with “I’ll take the paper Kanaho likes”. This will cause the witch into a state of miserable confusion, allowing it to be ripped apart with ease. A multitude of blood red hands ready to rip apart anything hide under TBA’s toilet paper mask.
TBA, the familiar of TBA, their duty is to clean. They lick up the gore left behind by TBA’s killings, it’s a thankless job, but they don’t mind as long as they get their sustenance.

Lickitung line review
Tumblr media
Lickitung is fairly forgotten about in the grand scheme of things, but I do like it quite a bit. The tongue thing is super in-your-face obvious and is a very unique theme (it also might be vaguely based off of an akaname yokai).
But what makes it work for me isn't just that it's a weird abstract creature with a tongue—it's that it's a very organic, cool-looking creature with a tongue. I love how its very vaguely salamander-esq in the face but is also bipedal, with a huge tail that mimics the tongue. It feels like something that could exist, and I always enjoy those kind of designs.
The stomach markings are also pretty interesting; it's an usual pattern that I don't think any other Pokemon sports, and they add a lot of shape to the body. Color-wise, pink is an obvious choice, and the cream works well to accent it. I do wish the pink was a bit deeper or more saturated as it feels a bit washed-out, but otherwise, this is a solid weird tongue thing.
Tumblr media
Lickitung also had a beta evo design in the Spaceworld Demo. I like the rolled tongue, mustache, and markings... but the way it's some kind of Indian snake charmer(??) feels uncomfortable, and the body shape needed to change more.
Tumblr media
Speaking of evos, Lickilicky is also as a weird tongue thing, but unfortunately it's not particularly well designed. My favorite thing about Lickitung is, as I just said, that it feels like an actual animal—but Lickilicky is anything but. The completely circular body, perfectly straight tongue, and stubby legs make it feel more like a toy.
But my other issue with it is that it doesn't really feel like a progression of Lickitung. Lickitung's thing is, surprise, the tongue, so you'd expect the tongue to be longer or more prominent in the design. Instead, it's shorter. Yes, it can presumably extend to be longer, but why would you de-emphasize the most important part of the design?
Similarly, the markings are reduced down, making them once again feel like a regression instead of a progression. They at least attempted to add something with the markings under the chin being more bib-like, but that's not enough to make the entire design work. Also, the wi-fi markings don't add much at this point and they would've worked at least a bit better in white.
You want to know an easy fix for this problem? Make Lickilicky the pre-evo. It feels weird to imagine Lickitung evolving into Lickilicky, but a Lickitung surrounded by little baby Lickilicky? Adorable! It would also make sense with things like the bib and the little curl of "hair" at the top.
If there's one thing I can give Lickilicky, it's that it at least has better colors than Lickitung. That, and the :P expression is kind of fun. Otherwise, though, I don't think this one works much at all.
(I also have to give a quick shoutout to @inprogresspokemon's Lickitung evo. This, to me, is a much better direction at all—it emphasizes and doubles down on the tongue paralysis thing and it still has a very organic body shape.)
Anyway, overall, Lickitung has a strong theme and a nice abstract design that conveys said theme well, but Lickilicky feels like a step backwards and would've been much better as a pre-evo. Maybe consider putting an everstone on this one.

Pretty obvious, but Noble!Yuu as a Vampire could work. Oh! Gardener!Yuu could be a Dryad, I think it fits them well enough.
Onsen!Yuu could be the yokai called a kejourou (Look them up their pretty interesting) or another one called an Akaname. (These ones are weird looking little things)
This is all I've got for now! I hope this isn't too much.
Monster (Yuu)niverse Headcannons
💎Noble!Yuu - Vampire
Only the fanciest coffin will do.
Not a glittery vampire just pale
Doesn't eat food just likes to look sofistacted when drinking blood from a wine glass.
The vampire rules they operate under states that they can't drink from just anyone. Every vampire has a preference. Usually, it correlates to sins or negative behavior. Greed, envy, selfishness, dishonesty, laziness, stress, anger.
Vampires seek out targets with excessive amounts of their favorite sin and drinks from them. These toxins from the bite cause the trait to be removed temporarily. This doesn't happen if Yuu doesn't bite them directly.
Yuu doesn't drink often but a target can get addicted to the bite depending on what Yuu targets.
Yuu is a bit prissy if the blood isn't strong enough.
"I said I wanted the blood of someone full of envy! What is this?! So she's upset her e is dating someone new. That's just petty. I want the blood of an envious backstabbing bitch! I want a homewreaking life-ruining monster! I going hunting. I'm sure Pomefiore has plenty of green-eyed students."
🌷 Gardener!Yuu - Dryad
Well the hair made of flower pedals and vines was an obvious sign.
Naturally, they are partially restrained by where their glen is. Only partially because Yuu can move what plant they connected to. This causes their appearance to change based on what plant it is. From willows to rose bushes.
Good luck getting past their thorns when they get angry.
They are even more protective of their garden. If the tree that functions as their heats is destroyed they die too.
They smell really nice. Too nice sometimes. Hope you're not allergic to pollen.
They are friends with the bees. Not fan of bears though or termites.
50% chance their apples are poisonous.
♨️ Onsen!Yuu- Kejoro
A beautiful black haired beauty.
Do not call them a Kejoro being called "hairy prostitute" is not a compliment. Matron or Master will do.
Has a habit of collecting suitors while getting customers.
Dreams of owning a large bathhouse and business district straight out of "Spirited Away"
Until then they work hard tending to customers
It's no ones business if they sell their body (they don't)
No one can afford it anyways.
Normal humans don't find them attractive but other monsters are clambering for their attention.
Their hair is so thick it's hard to comb but they try.
They will cut locks of hair and send it to suitors they favor inside a small embroidered scented bag.
