Excerpt from Deadmouth Quarry
Chapter 11
Evan was grinning madly, all braces and bright eyes. He even waved. “Hi!”
“Hello.” She glanced at Fred, who nodded encouragingly, and then held out her hand. “I’m Clara. Freddy’s my brother.”
“Evan!” The kid grabbed her hand and shook it way more enthusiastically than Fred had expected. Clara clearly felt the same, shooting him a mildly panicked look. “Do you like cryptid stuff?”
Oh, no, thought Fred.
Clara, on the other hand, lit up like a gas-soaked bonfire. “Yes,” she said breathlessly. “Do you want a Snickers?”
“Sure!”
Well. Great. Fred was standing halfway through the quad with two kids who were bonding over candy and urban legends.
“There was a sighting this weekend,” Evan said around his mouthful of chocolate bar. He’d barely swallowed when he continued, “Someone put a video on TikTok— it’s really dark and hard to see, but if you squint—”
Fred sighed, looking around at the other people milling about. This was certainly better than talking to some random girl whose name he’d never actually gotten, but he wasn’t sure it was worth missing the class he was supposed to be in.
“Freddy, look!”
Clara all but shoved a phone in his face, and— well. Fred had never been very good at denying her much of anything, so he looked— watched. Whatever.
And, yeah, Evan was right. The video was dark, horribly lit by a coppery orange streetlight—
Wait. That was the quad.
The video had been taken not ten feet from where they were standing just now.
Fred took the phone from Clara and squinted at it. The person filming was swearing and muttering, but there was a strange sort of undercurrent to the sound, like a buzzing noise, or— a hum? Maybe? And there, in the tree line… something was…
God, was that tree moving?

Brian The Cryptid Guy
A post about Brian, a character of mine who winds up unwillingly becoming the "babysitter" of a bunch of cryptids.
Brian is, for the most part, a pretty normal, boring, basic white boy. He did wind up on the wrong side of the law for a few years, but he has no intentions of continuing such ways. he currently lives in his rich aunts second/vacation house, as its caretaker. Even though she has professional cleaners, and such come out once a month. Aunt Beth pays for the utilities of the house, but Brian has to get his own food, and manage stuff like, "oh a big branch fell down, gotta call the yard maintenance guy to get that" or handle it himself lol.
As such he does have a job. Brian works
. . . on the topic of not finishing things . . . here's a post I never finished and don't feel like finishing.

Most interdimensional entities that humans consider horrifying demons and eldrich horrors actually consider humans pretty dangerous unless they're actively trained fighters. Your average extraplaner being isn't used to dealing with a species that evolved to hunt in groups, and developed to survive in violent scenarios.
Most final girl situations happen because young entities deeply underestimate that humans have such a strong will to live, and are willing to fight back agasint a stronger foe. Most older entities keep at bay for this very reason, which is why you just see them stranding around being creepy.
That pale long limbed cryptid you spotted in a subway station moved so quickly because it doesn't want to end up near you. That shadow person whose hovering over you in the woods is trying to observe you, but it will teleport away if anyone comes near it for a good reason.
And that doppelganger that's standing by your door at night just wants to observe you too. He was smart to try to copy your roommate's face, but he doesn't realize how good humans are at recognizing eachother's faces, and that his copy will be disturbing to any human who sees it. And he got way to reckless with his movements and bad attempts to imitate human speech. Trying to trick the human who he wants to study into coming to his dimensions is an even bigger mistake, especially since he didn't realize how quickly the human would catch on. He's soon going to learn things he should have read up on before hand: humans will try to attack things they're afraid of if they can't run away, humans can use almost any hard object as a weapon by holding it and swinging, and that those decorations on your wall are called 'swords' and were not originally designed as decorations...

Wayne doll house: demon children.
Idea: each of the batkids is theorised to have a different origin.
Thing is, there's so many of them. The oldest is actually the youngest in body. It seems to be able to share memories with those who follow. It changes design right before a new bat appears.
The hero in the town over is definitely one of them, but what's it doing over there?? Asking just gets non-answers.
What happened to the ones that the Joker tried to destroy? One - the oldest and smallest - came back, but different, whereas the other - the purple and orange one - came back for a while and then vanished again for good.
None of them seem to age??
The first, smallest, oldest, it seemed to be some sort of circus performer? It gave its acrobatics to the blue one when it arrived, grew clever and defensive. It gave that to the skull headed red one, focused on technology and detective work after the Incident. Then again, and again, and one time even the bat changed along with it, but though the bat returned to normal the little Robin didn't, and now it's just as stabby and creative as it is small and creepy.
It's a good sort of creepy now, after over a decade of beating up bad guys and comforting victims, Gotham has gotten used to it, but outsiders don't much like it.
The justice league have a different opinion.
They know, or at least can observe, that the... Souls? Brains? Programs? Switch around, that it's not memories but persons that bring the new bats to life.
They just don't know where batman gets them. The new one, especially, is very circumspect.
For all this talk of the blood son, all the bats calling it demon child with varying levels of fondness, the way batman doesn't deny the claims...
Thing is the bat doesn't have blood. Everyone's well aware of this by now. Whatever sulpheric black tar he and the bats leak probably-certainly isn't blood, or at least... Not anything with dna.
So... What blood?? If not the bat's, why does it tie the newest mind of Robin to him?
Captain marvel is the first to think of an idea.
A blood child of a demon for a blood ritual for a demon.
Constantine and Zatanna second the notion - it's perfectly possible. Reasonable, even. The bat admitted himself he had no way to procreate the way humans did, nor any interest in doing so. Wanting a legacy was perfectly normal.
Except he already had, what, seven, eight, nine kids? He loved all of them, it was clear, and he'd always seemed happy with them. He'd even sighed over how many he had, had rebuffed the teasing about getting more. The new Robin mind had been a surprise to everyone, and the old one in a new body had been a little salty about it.
So the new theory was that batman hadn't decided to get a new Robin. Maybe the old mind had been ejected unwillingly! It had happened at roughly the same time batman had gotten a new personality - maybe the incidents were related?
But if batman hadn't done the ritual... Who had?
Who would do something like that???
Cultists. Cultists would do something like that. But giving the bat a son unwillingly seemed... A very odd goal, even for that type.
So... Had they messed up? Had they tried to summon the bat with a blood sacrifice ritual, and summoned a demon instead? Had it partially worked? Was the bat susceptible to demon summonings?? Did the summoning damage his own mind/consciousness/soul in some way, and that led to the creation of the new demon child while the bat changed until he'd healed????
How kind of batman to take it in!
Tldr; the league thinks Robin V is a demon born/created through a failed summoning ritual involving blood sacrifice that made batman like puns until he healed. The truth is the canon events of Damian arriving at the manor only for b to get tossed into the time stream, becoming the Robin to nightwing-batman while Tim, who is much less annoyed about it than canon, focuses on getting him back. Lmao.

👻 IT'S HERE! PRESENTING CARO GREENE'S MIL-LIMINAL-THE PODCAST! 👻
Consider this a soft launch cuz i know it's not live on ALL services yet, but you can now listen to the introduction episode of Caro's podcast, Mil-Liminal on Youtube, Podcast Addict, Podbean, and Spotify, and probably more cuz idk how distribution works.
There will be a full length episode soon, but for now, take a listen to the intro, and if you like it, share it to your friends to help people find it! Its written in a way anyone can jump in, even if they aren't familiar with the comics or characters. Thank you SO MUCH for all the support getting here, I'm so happy to finally be able to do this!
Mil-Liminal is a cozy horror podcast featuring the charming and slightly unhinged Caro Greene, an employee working the counter during the night shift at a tiny gas station in the middle of the woods. Join their journey of witnessing the unexplainable! Liminal spaces, ghosts and ghouls galore, there won't be any jump-scares or hopelessness, just unsettling vibes with moments of comedy to lighten the mood. The podcast is in canonical order, meaning the first episode is Caro's first 'episode' as well, learning as they go to create their podcast.

There’s so much potential in tf2 content if yall let go of the “parental role” dynamic and let the mercs be a weird friend group spanning at least three different generations. Scout saying he doesn’t wanna turn 30 (bc erm OLD??? /j /j thats a joke) and Medic throttles him
Pyro mentioning how they never filed taxes for the business they owned (in the comics) and Soldier explodes them with a rocket. Spy always talking about how the war “devastated her” while Sniper takes the fattest rip of his bong on the other end of the couch. Idk man there’s so much yall are missing out on its crazy

Would anyone be interested in a pokemon cryptid batfam Au?
Like, Pokemon just being a Gotham thing thanks to all the magic curses, the many, many, chemicals everywhere, the canonical reality warping and all of that. Like the local plants and fauna just started mutating and evolving like that.
And Batman was originally seen as some sort of cryptid or living shadow sort of creature. So with the rapidly changing flora and fauna going around in Gotham, someone is eventually going to put forth the idea of some sort of mutated person or creature.
And I am just saying, Bruce has a weird sense of humor. He would probably find such rumors hilarious. He might even say, lean into them. He might say, commit to the bit.
And then forget to mention it to anyone else once the League is formed. It might completely slip his mind that they're not in the know like the batfamily members

I’ve had a ridiculous workload for the past few weeks, but that hasn’t stopped me from reading chapter 16!!
@naffeclipse I want you to know how much I was wailing at this one. Just how quickly the hunter went from referring to them as their “dear friend” to “the demonic cryptid.” And the little moments when they finally began to realize that cryptid isn’t entirely dissimilar from the person they’ve gotten so close with… absolutely phenomenal!!
I’d say I’m at the edge of my seat after this, but I fell off that seat way back in episode four. Regardless, I cant fully articulate just how excited I am to see how things play out!!!

a photographer with a fear of water and a retired sea captain who’s mad at his ginger son give monster hunting a shot. Part one is here
no one asked for this but I had this sequence in my sketchbook for some time and really enjoyed it, so I decided to clean it up and colour it even though it’s nine pages long!

Cute date idea: hand to hand combat while its raining in a field, afterward I lay a wilting flower on your bloodied body while you reach for my hand; this will be the first and only encounter of me before you head onto a quest years later only to hunt me at request of the king but instead we slowly fall in love together, disappear off the grid and then revolt against the royal family ♡
and then we have tea ofc

Imagine an eldrich horror taking on human form. Like, you just meet a human on the side of the road and they're not exactly sure why they're here. They tell you that they used to be something else, but now that they're human they can barely comprehend what they once were, only a vague feeling of something.
You take them in. They know human language, basic adult skills, and that's about it. They're in an adult human body, around twenty, probably a bit underweight, they didn't bother giving themself biological sex but other then that they seem like a normal human adult. They can't tell you their name, they say they feel it should be something specific but it doesn't fit with how they comprehend language now. They say it should be something like Fraeoyw, but also that's nothing like how it was.
You decide to take Fraeoyw in, you're apartment has been lonely since your roomate moved out. They're freindly, seem curious about humanity, mabye that's why they made themself human in the first place. You have to teach them that they need food, sleep, and to clean themself. It's not like teaching a child, they understand what they need to do and why, they just haven't learned to do it before. They also learn to that human touch feels good, they want to compare it to something else but they don't fully understand what it reminds them of.
They try to explain things from their old life, but they can't even explain them to themself. Is this really what they wanted? They explain them in myths and fables because that's all they can grasp at them with. You start reading to them, first folktales and mythology, then just things you think they might like. They understand the concept of fiction, and they enjoy stories. Eventually you take them out through the city, and to meet freinds. They tell you they enjoy being a human, that if it was a choice it was a good one.
Occasionally they'll become afraid of things. Things they can't describe. Or things that seem harmless to you. They don't go to the bridge, even just the rivers that separate your city from the rest of the country scare them. You'll never know why.
One day they come into your room, they remembered something scary, they can't describe it, it's something from their old self perhaps, or something they once knew. They ask if they can just cuddle with you a bit, realizing how innocent they are you concent, but you make them promise not to touch certain parts of your body. They ask if they're the only one who gets scared this way, of things they can't understand. You tell them that everybody does.

WELL this started out as a casual little magma scribble (good lord the shenanigans that led up to this, I have no idea how the leaps and bounds went from drunken newyears shitposting to oop I have effort now??? BUT... I ALSO finally caught up on @naffeclipse Cryptid Sightings... Yesssterday??? Day before? Time is an illusion. And MOTHER OF GOD I love them. I love Sun, I love Moon, and I love THEM as their TRUE SELF and all the beautiful design work that every other artist that's depicted them has put into little details and every time we get another little sprinkle of description of them in the actual text and the mental image of them keeps shifting and changing and just hhhh. I love our Little Hunter as well, so caring and worried about their little animatronic friend and all his woes and fears and the very definitely horrible traumatic past he doesn't wish to speak of and not the fact that he doesn't HAVE the past they think they do definitely not that. But also... *DEEP BREATH* HOW MUCH THEIR CARE AND CONCERN leaves them dumb as a rock sometimes. I love this. I FEEL this. I have BEEN THIS IDIOT so many times where the care and the worry completely overrides the GLARINGLY OBVIOUS SIGNS that your LITTLE BUDDY is not what he seems. Sometime I just wanna *STRANGLE* with love, of course. HHH The vampire hunt almost broke me, and I'm SCARED to dig into the Crypted YN side story, but *Shakes Fist* Gonna be strong. Gonna read it. Where no one can see me sobbing ; w ; SKetch under the cut~
