getting this shadow right was ridiculous! Perspective, blurring and lowering saturation at the highest points, the glow inside of it, etc. This was a lot of work and a lot of feedback. Seriously, I'm so proud of the shadow!

"Stray Cat Jam"

Man: Quiet out there!" Top Cat crooned and caterwauled through the microphone as he dodge the on coming volley of alarm clocks and trash from open windows. His band mates played on behind him, one of them, Tom, was a last minute replacement as their bassist. The small quartet of tabby cats ignored the cries of the agitated apartment squatters as they jammed  out to the sounds of rockabilly all through the night. And as they did, the glorious racket grew as more cats came to show their appreciation. Well, this is the first fully digital piece I have done in a while. Last time I did this was last year when I did the Marco Bucci inspired "Seventies Night Club" This one took a longer time to do since I used a different approach compared to how I normally do finished pieces with backgrounds and multiple characters. I  started off blocking in the composition using shades of gray before overlaying the main colors. Afterwards I sketched out everything and started fine tuning with extra highlights and shadows. While I normally like to go for a more soft blended look, this go around I kept a rough painterly look I had throughout the process of this piece. This is probably the first time I've done a finished piece in this order, usually the sketch is the first thing I'll do. And something like this would be done traditionally any other day. Also this is the first time I've made a piece that crosses over into at least 4 different fandoms; Top Cat and his gang from Hanna Barbara, Tom and Butch from Tom and Jerry, O'Malley and Duchess from Aristocats, and Sylvester from Looney Tunes. This is an idea Ive had floating around for years but never got around to doing it until now. While its not entirely perfect, I love how well this turned out. It looks so much better than it did when I first started out. For extra inspiration; I've been listening to a lot of rockabilly lately, more specifically that of the band Stray Cats. These guys were know for their big hits in the early 80's "Rock This Town" and "Stray Cat Strut".
