one-sentence synopsis: steven grant needs a hug, and, by god, you're going to give it to him.

author's note: i was writing literally two other fics but then i thought. i gotta hug steven. and i got tears in my eyes. and so i wrote this on a burst of impulse after watching the finale. it had to be done

This room you’re in is so comfortable.

It’s good, for him. You like for him to be comfortable. You like when you’re comfortable together, when you just get to— to enjoy each other’s company, for a second, and just be. It’s nice.

This place is nice, too. It’s nothing much, and certainly nothing special, but it’s perfect for your purposes right now. A dark, warm room, the walls thick enough to keep out any sound from the outside, the curtains drawn around the only window. The sweet little space has a couple of armchairs, a sofa, a lovely little fireplace, countless bookshelves, and—

And, well, you. And him.

Steven’s beside the lit fireplace now, on the edge of one of the armchairs, and you can’t help watching him. He leans forward, rubbing his hands together, pushing his palms in close to the flames. He’s not near enough to burn himself, but he still smiles in that snapping firelight, the orange-warm glow flickering on his handsome face.

While you’re looking at him, here, he rubs his hands once up his thighs, in a short glide. When he claps down at the top, he turns to you, catches you already staring at him.

He smiles, automatically. It’s an instinctive thing, spreading across his face the second his eyes connect with yours, the instant he sees you. The expression really changes his whole face, and— You don’t think he could get handsomer, really, or more endearing to you, but when he smiles? That’s— That’s a real game-changer, you think.

“Hey,” he says. Sitting up straighter out of his hunch close to the fire, he asks, “What’re you looking at?”

“You,” you tell him.

“What, just me?” he asks. He pats over his chest, then reaches up to his face, as if he doesn’t believe you.

You cross the small space to him, catching his wrist, tugging his hand from his cheek. He keeps tilting his head until it’s at a sharp angle backwards. He’s unwilling to break your eye contact, smiling right up at you.

Stroking your fingertips up the inside of his wrist, to his palm, you draw his fingers from his face, then thread them through yours, tangling them up together. With your other hand, you reach up, cradling his jaw. Smoothing your thumb along the hard sweep of his cheek, you drag to cup his chin, then pull lightly.

“Yeah,” you tell him. “Just you.” You tug at him again, just a bit. “C’mere.”

“Wh— Yeah, okay,” Steven agrees, and lets you pull him to his feet. It’s obvious he doesn’t know what you’re intending, or understand what you want, but he does it anyway. The realization has you smiling, wanting to reward him for his trust in you.

Once he’s standing before you, smiling still, you release his face, stroking down to his shoulders, instead. The material of his sweater is impossibly soft, worn and warm as you glide down to his chest, stopping over the pound of his heart. You can feel it picking up, just a little, as you linger there. Your eyes flick up from where they’ve been tracking your hands to watch his face again instead, smiling right back up at him, returning what he’s giving you.

“Hi,” you say softly.

“Hi,” he says. “Hello, I— Hi.”

You let your right palm press flat over his heart, just for a moment, to feel that beat, before both hands skim together around his waist. Shifting closer into his space, you move slow, steady, reading him every inch of the way. You’re met with nothing but melting warmth as he sinks right into you, letting your arms push him apart, letting your legs slot in with his.

As soon as you’re close enough, you spread your arms to wrap around him, pulling him close into your embrace. You let one arm tilt down, under his, to twine around to his back; the other, you lift up, over his other arm, so you can thread your fingers into his hair and hold on tight.

You get him into your hold, using this tilted hug to get him in as close as you possibly can. Stroking your fingers through his hair, scratching lightly along his scalp, you relax him bit by bit until he’s completely collapsed into you.

“Hi,” he says again, like it just slips out of him. His voice is impossibly soft; when you tilt closer into him, your cheek meeting his, you can feel the heat of his skin, the strength of his blush. “What’s up? Everything alright?”

You nod, just a short tip into him, twisting closer into him. When you shift, you manage to meet his ear, then tell him, “I just wanted to hug you. Is that okay?”

He nods so quickly in response that you can’t help smiling a little bit. “Oh, yeah,” he tells you, rapid-fire. “More than alright, this is wonderful, it’s— This is perfect, actually. You can hug me whenever you like, as long as you like, just— Consider this your blanket permission, yeah?”

“Blanket permission to act like a blanket?” you ask, and he huffs. “Sorry, should’ve left that joke to you.”

“You’re just so—” He laughs, then tips into you a bit, rocking you just slightly from side to side, shifting your weight with his. “Mm.” His head presses into yours. “Thanks.”

“Don’t thank me,” you say, and tighten your grip.

“Maybe I’d like to,” Steven says. You withdraw, only a bit, so you can look up at him, before you push up to meet the shell of his ear. He shakes minutely beneath you, the tiniest tremor just beneath his skin.

You can’t help tightening your grip on him. Pressing in just that little bit closer, you tell him, “I love you.” All of him, you just— You want all of him to know. “So much. You know that, right?”

He hesitates, this time, before he nods so rapidly you draw him in even closer.

“Because I do,” you promise him. “I love you so much.”

“I know,” he says. His voice almost cracks a bit, in the middle, before he clears it and says again, “I know, no, I— I know.” He tips nearer, presses a kiss to your temple. You smile against his cheek, and feel him smiling, back. “I love you, too.”

“I know,” you echo.

You let your hold in his hair tighten, your other fingers fisting up in his warm sweater, dragging across the broad, strong planes of his back beneath, across the soft give of his flesh. Your own chest catches, for a beat. You just— You’re happy, you think. Content, even. Being here with him, it’s— It’s just so nice.

Nudging his arms slightly, you slant up just slightly to kiss the corner of his smiling mouth. He huffs, a little laugh coming up.

“Hi,” you say again, smiling at him.

“Hi,” he replies, and lifts his own arm to cradle the back of your head, just like you’re doing with his, imitating your hold. The two of you slot together, fitting into each other perfectly. You smile, then kiss him again, nearer to the edge of his jaw, before you drag down into the hug again, pushed into his shoulder. Stroking his hair slowly, rubbing gently over his back, you exhale.

You feel him mimic you again here, echoing your exhale, a deep breath in and out. It relaxes him the rest of the way, all warmth against you, fireplace-warmth and body-warmth and love-warmth.

Smiling, he just falls right into you, and you do the same. The both of you hold each other up, the hug keeping you close until you’re supporting each other, unable to stand without the other, one creature altogether.

A soft little humming sound rumbles up out of Steven’s chest, and you sigh, smiling. You’d tell him again that you love him, a sweet, syrupy, soapy kind of softness that spreads through you at the obvious contentment in him, too. Murmuring to him, you tell him again, “Love you,” and he mumbles it right back, happy to keep the hug, neither of you breaking it, just— enjoying each other, still, really. Just content to enjoy each other.

Every inch of your body has gone completely rigid with tension. You’re not even sure you heard Adrian correctly, for a moment. All of you is coiled up, anticipating what comes next, an unexpected full-body reaction to the absent words that just came out of his mouth.

Immediately, Adrian’s saying, “Fuck, I’m— I’m so sorry, that was too far, I shouldn’t have said that—”

“Stop,” you say, and he stops immediately, backing off of you, shoving away from where he’s pinned you up against the wall to give you more space. You immediately miss his closeness, his warmth, and you prickle all over for— not even a different reason, really. The same reason.

“I am so, so sorry,” Adrian repeats. “I didn’t mean—”

“Say it again,” you request. It’s not an order, and it’s not an instruction; you’re under no illusions that you’re the one in charge here. You’re only asking; if he gives it, he gives it.

Studying you, his panic fading into something more curious, now, Adrian asks, “You— Are you sure?”

You nod in a jerk, and he evaluates you. His nervous eyes have shifted; he’s more predatory, more interested. There’s a blazing heat in him, a splotched-fresh-red to his face, a hectic blotch of color that tells you he’s as shockingly into this as you are.

After a beat of hesitation, Adrian repeats, almost cautiously, “You like that, slut?”

You moan without even meaning to. The sound just— pours right out of your mouth, automatic and instinctive, unable to be kept inside. It’s accompanied by a sharp twist in your gut, an excited pull, and you twitch into him without even meaning to, blood racing through your veins, heart pounding up into the back of your throat.

“Yes,” you tell him, and his hands find your hips.

His grip is harder, near to bruising, and he yanks you in closer. “You like it when I call you a slut?”

“I do,” you tell him, quickly, encouraging. “I like it—”

“I didn’t say you could talk,” Adrian tells you, and you snap your mouth shut, letting him assume control, letting him fall into character. It took him months to get used to this, really, but between the two of you supporting each other, you’ve found a dynamic that you enjoy, and roles that fit, and you love him for it, love sex with him because of it. “If you’re my whore, then you do what I say, right?”

The word whore falling out of his mouth this way has your knees fuzzing out, going completely numb in your legs until it feels like you’re standing on nothing but static.

“I asked you a question,” Adrian says, over the thud of your pulse in your ears.

His confidence has shifted a bit backwards towards hesitation, and you hurry to reassure him that he’s doing well, that he’s doing the right thing, that you like this. “Yes, I do.”

“Good,” Adrian says. He leans in experimentally, letting the hot spread of his breath fan over your ear, spreading like a flush down the column of your throat and further, pooling tight in your belly, between your thighs, at your core. With a probing, trial-and-error kind of voice, he tests, “Slut,” and your hips twitch into his.

You’re embarrassed but you’re not, too turned on to give a shit. You’d probably be mortified if Adrian wasn’t into this, but the insistent press of his cock against your thigh and the grabbing touch of his hands on your hips and the shove of his mouth into yours, a beat later, shows you just how much he’s into this, too.

“Spread your legs for me, whore,” Adrian tells you, and you do. He laughs against your mouth, lifting his eyes upwards to meet yours through the dark sweep of his eyelashes. “This is going to be fun.”

You half-whimper, half-laugh when Adrian dives in again, consuming you.

definitely laur @inklore my bestie!! way back when i first started this blog her and her fics were a big inspiration for getting into writing again, and it was serendipitous that we both got into eddie and wrote for him. rainbow in the dark is just one of my all time faves, such a beautiful fix it fic i wish i could live in it. and the heavy metal love series is just art.

liz @vigilvntes was a big inspo when i started writing adrian, i read her fics obsessively and still they’re among some of my faves. her bruce fics?? unmatched genuinely

also nikki!!! @andillwriteyouatragedy // @honeycombstrawberry i was soo so happy when we became mutuals they are unbelievably talented and can write like a mf. i’m genuinely inspired and envious of their ability to just write and write and get completely carried away with a piece. it’s amazing and they’ve written several of my favorite fics (shout-out gotham’s triptych u are always in my heart)

As someone who has been a wrestling fan for almost 18 years...I am so happy that John Cena has been around as long as I've watched WWE. He was one of the first WWE superstars I was introduced to when I started watching with my now husband and he's been one of the few constants over the years who's career I have paid close attention to. I'm a huge fan of his show Peacemaker as well as many can tell by my likes and posts🤣. It's nice to see him back in the wrestling ring where everything started for him. I wish him a happy 20 year anniversary and also wish him many many more years of success inside and outside the ring. Thank you Mr. Cena for being entertaining inside and outside of the ring and thank you for being such a wonderful person! May you continue to be blessed and happy!

I must say, as big as the Peacemaker fandom is on here, I'm really surprised there aren't more Happy Birthday wishes for John Cena in the Peacemaker tag. Now I know a lot of the fans ( myself included) love all the characters in their own way, but we really need to show Peacemaker himself some love on his birthday. Cuz without his character, we probably wouldn't have this wonderful show full of all the other characters we love. So, I'll start it off: Happy Birthday John Cena/Peacemaker.
